/qst/ - Quests

Welcome to Animal Tribes Evo! As the name implies, you will play one of three animal tribes, guiding along the way as they become civilizations with rich cultures, technologies and advantages.

RULES
>Each turn is a new week (time dilated as appropriate).
>Each tribe has ONE turn per turn, so the players on the tribe must agree on their actions.
>Each turn will consist of TWO ACTIONS and ONE DEVELOPMENT.
>ACTIONS items are things like building, scouting, hunting and crafting.
>DEVELOPMENT items are things like technology, culture, religion and science.
>Plotting on Discord is encouraged.
>Please check the provided materials to ensure the item you're suggesting has not already been done, or whether your tribe has the necessary resources to accomplish the task.

All actions must be justified by IC knowledge - any meta turns will result in potential consequences for the tribe that attempts them.

There will be no secret turns until WAR is declared in PVP conflict. Declaring war requires an action as part of a turn. There will be no faction splintering or civil war. If you are having OOC issues, work them out OOC.

From time to time I (the OP) will prompt tribes for a BONUS ACTION. This BONUS ACTION will vary depending on circumstances, will apply to ALL tribes, and will not count against their regular 2 actions that turn. Bonus actions MUST be answered that turn or they are lost.

TURN 32 RESULTS
SHEEP!
With big plans for bears, the Sheep begin studying them to further propagate their knowledge and increase their stock of the beasts. The bears gain a steady pop growth rate, and in a few turns they will possess enough bears that I will no longer keep track of their exact number (>10 bears - 3 turns). Sheep travel south with the knowledge of the escaped captive, seeking the Lizard tribe. They find it difficult to locate them, both since the captive was blindfolded going to and from the camp from the shore, and since the tribe has moved on. Very little trace can be found of the Lizards at all, aside from a few broken pieces of terracotta and wooden pegs left behind that have been driven deep into the earth. Other Sheep scout westward, finding a lush forest interwoven with rivers and streams. Pressing into the verdant scenery, they find an outpost of furred creatures playing in the water living in mud huts. Sheep have discovered the Otters! Perhaps they know more about that shrine, but neither can understand the other yet. The Otters flee on sight of the Sheep, not wanting a repeat of the LAST tribe to make their acquaintance, rushing westward and leaving everything else where it sits. A pair of guards with fishing spears and hooks emerge on the other side of the riverbank, posturing at the Sheep to ensure they don't come any closer.

RATS!
A wise Rat determines that certain traits can be passed on via breeding, and develops an experiment to test the result with deer. Over a few generations, the deer begin to get bigger as those traits are favored, while smaller deer are harvested for meat and leather. Rats will now be able to develop riding skills as deer are large enough to ride. To the west, Prince Ichi brings a force of Rat warriors to build a settlement, training with the Penguins. They learn that the birds are very focused on discipline, and their drills are very strict. They only accept absolute success, but the Penguins never break under the pressure of failure. They begin to learn that Penguin formations are based on the forms of the most sacred things to the birds: ice and pearls. Every Penguin wears a leather thong around their neck laced with one or more pearls - the size, color and number of which denote their rank and profession. The new Rats all obtain one (1) pearl to wear in Penguin society, but as outsiders are not held to the same level of strict order that the Penguins are. When Rats obtain 4 pearls, they will be eligible to learn to ride bears into battle. (Prince Ichi is given 5 lustrous pearls as a token of respect due to his Owl and status as a foreign dignitary). Prince San scouts along the edge of the mountains seeking exposed ore to develop, and finds a vein of raw iron past the lake where their pears were found. They find no Raccoon settlements nearby...

DOGS!
Cracking down on the Otter problem, Dogs decide to take away their semblance of freedom or even personhood, cramming them into tiny cells cut off from their society. They enforce learning Dog among their slaves, but though the slaves understand it, they will rarely speak it themselves unless directed to. There seems to be a flame of resistence among the Otters, though none of the Dog guards can single it out. This week, Dogs find an Otter singing in Otter after curfew, and take him to be tortured and executed on the altar. The next night, they find another. The next night, another - 3 in total this week. Otters may be down, but it seems they are far from broken, and a Dog catches one of the captive-born Otter children speaking Otter in the rations line. No Otter has yet to in another, regardless of the rewards. Dogs understand the basic tenets of surgery, taking their anatomical knowledge to a new level. It isn't perfect, but it helps ensure that more Dogs than ever can survive injury or battle - or even childbirth! Dogs gain a +1 pop growth rate.

Dogs are awoken in the middle of the night by a hail of flaming projectiles flung over the wall, along with rotten fish. The stench of the rotten seafood overpowers Dogs' noses, causing many to retch as they are awoken, trying to put out the fires that spread through the wooden parts of their fortress. Thankfully it's mostly stone, but the smoke that billows throughout the camp makes it very difficult to see. When the Dogs make it to the gates, they find that a force of Otters has fought their way into the slave encampment! 6 Dog guards lie dead. The fate of the slaves is in the air!

>Dogs may roll 1d100 to resolve this conflict and share the tactics they use to quell this usurpation. I will accept the highest roll and the most accepted approach of tactics, and respond with the Otter roll (best of 3).

This can happen independently of turn 33 actions from other tribes.

THE BATTLE OF THE RANCID HILLS
Jumping into action, Dogs in the fortress work to quell the fires started by the Otters. Finding the projectiles, they notice that the slingstones have been coated with a foul smelling substance - some sort of fish oil. The scent of the rotten fish and the snuffed fish oil wells inside the fortress, causing Dogs to retch as they assemble inside the main gates. No, don't eat that - too late. Dog archers man the walls, notching arrows to their bows to provide cover fire as they assess the situation.

Otters have poured in through the walls of the slave encampment, gathering as many captive Otters as they can find. 57 rescuers manage to find all 43 slaves, passing extra fishing hooks and spears to them. Some Otters have cloth over their nose, carrying pots of rotten fish paste and fish oil - and a few slingers loose volleys that clatter harmlessly against the stone of the fortress as they rally the captives.

In the fortress, a Dog with a sense of irony starts drumming - a low, booming, methodical clamor that rains over the battlefield between the two sets of walls. The Otters have all amassed at the gates of the slave camp, when the first arrow is loosed. It arcs across the distance, impaling an Otter in front where they stand, folding like a puppet with the strings cut as its slinky body collapses into the dry grass. A bright cry rises up among the Otters - and is answered by the Dogs' howling as the gates of the fortress open and moose-mounted warriors ride out onto the hillside, followed by Dogs in shield formation.

Swinging slingstones at the charging Dogs and catching arrows from those on moose-back, 14 Otters fall, and 9 Dogs in the initial salvo. The stench of fish is everywhere, making it impossible for the Dogs to aim with any consistency. The Otters decide to break for it, splitting into two formations with the young and elderly in the center, while brave fighting Otters eat arrows for dinner around the edges. The Dogs holding the shield wall make progress, but no Otters are coming for them - they are running away! 15 more Otters fall until they are out of range of the fort walls, while the Dogs close in on them. (70 Otters remain, and 91 Dogs).

>>2199322
THE BATTLE OF THE RANCID HILLS pt II
The Dogs make it into the slave camp as a lone Otter drops a burning torch onto the ground that has been soaked in fish oil. Smoke begins billowing from the empty slave camp, rapidly spreading across the structures also tagged with oil, and the creak of collapsing buildings inside the walls is heard throughout the fortress as the flames rage. The shield-Dogs decide to push back, and have no choice but to split up as well to pursue the Otters, who cannot move as quickly due to their numbers. 4 are killed by collapsing buildings and flame, as well as the single Otter. (69 Otters, 87 Dogs).

The wind blows north, giving cover to the nothern group of escapees. Those on the south side are rounded up by the moose riders, and 9 Otter rescuers fall, bringing down 11 Dogs with them. On the north side, the Dogs are forced to keep their distance on moose-back, coughing amid the acrid stench. Some moose riders get ahead of the smoke, cutting off the Otters' avenue of escape - but some manage to slip away into the brush, scattering and making it hard to ride them down. (60 Otters, 76 Dogs).

Dogs manage to recapture 27 Otters from the southern splinter, while they only manage to retake 12 of those from the north splinter, killing another 10. Ambushes from Otters protecting those who are fleeing manage to kill another 15 Dogs.

Final count of survivors
>61 Dogs (out of an initial 100)
>39 Otters (out of an initial 100).

Estimates put 28 Otters escaping, and Dogs find that among the 39 they now possess are a blend of previously owned slaves and new captures.

SHEEP!
Now that they have found themselves able to train their bears, the Sheep decide it might be a brilliant idea to RIDE the bears! It works out nicely, and they craft some woolen harnesses to perch atop their mighty mounts. Bear mounts allow the Sheep to scout further, and potentially have uses in battle with more training. But since Sheep have never fought anything bigger than a locust, that would require another development and some context to learn about. Using their bear cavalry, the Sheep pick up the trail of the Lizard tribe! It seems that they moved south-east through the desert, very cleverly disguising their tracks. The reptilian folk are at home in the desert, and seem to be very good at not being found if they don't want to be. The Sheep spot a camp in the distance, and lay low to scope it out. It looks like the Lizards have set up their settlement here, amid gently rolling scrub hills. Late summer flowers still hang on the cactus, and at night, rains wash across the cracked earth, sheeting and flooding areas around the Lizards. It will be impossible to approach unseen - what will Sheep do? Meanwhile, 4 Sheep who 'joined' the Lizard tribe approach those still held captive, exposing their double agent status and trying to gain ideas on how to escape!

When Sheep approach the Otter settlement again with an offering, the guards remain vigilant, although they begrudgingly move to meet the Sheep, slipping through the water as easily as Sheep walk across the plains. The Otters accept the gift and seem to consider their options, before one of the guards barks something across the water. An Otter brings a small clay container across before swimming to safety, and the guard hands this to the Sheep. Inside is a cooked confection - a crabcake! Sheep decline the offering as they don't eat meat, but this is lost in translation and the Otters seem slightly offended until Sheep manage to communicate the concept. Otters offer a sample of sugarcane instead, which delights the Sheep, but they probably won't do anything with it so I won't bother adding it to their sheet. Otters and the Sheep tribe have now established peaceful relations! Learning a language from another tribe requires a development, not an action.

RATS!
Rats spend a lot of this turn working on infrastructure, but instead of just saying "work on infrastructure" they provide detailed examples of what it is they do and what they hope to achieve from doing it! AMAZING. The roads they build between their settlements increases the number of traders and travellers who can meander along. Because of Rats, Penguins and Raccoons are introduced to one another, and begin peacefully interacting via trade! This nets Rats a neat ACHIEVEMENT for being DIPLOMANCERS, gaining +4 pop growth. It also resets the cooldown on their morale dropping from joyous back to happy, as the Rat tribe expands their reach across the island. To get to other ends of the island faster, Rats invent carts, pulled by their now large deer. They can 'cart' goods like wood, stone, ore and food farther and faster than has ever been possible before! Their trade booms with the Penguins and the Raccoons - and on the side, they build their own iron mine. For now, it remains undiscovered, and no Raccoons have questioned it. Rats now have a steady stream of iron to develop that is all their own, expanding their horizons! Frigid rain and sleet begins drenching the northern part of the island, with dark clouds signalling more bad weather to come.

DOGS!
Managing to pull out a slim victory, if that's what you want to call it, Dogs suffer a slight morale drop. They lost many good warriors on the field of battle, and they have finally started to take the Otter forces somewhat seriously. It takes days to pry all of the rotten fish and fish oil from their fort, returning to some semblance of life. The slaves and prisoners have been brought inside the walls, but there is open hostility against the Otters now as many Dogs lost friends and relatives in the assault to recapture what slaves they could. The festival of mourning helps some move on, but with all of the upset and changes, Dogs suffer a -3 pop growth from the fatigue of loss. Finally, Dogs want to learn Otter. They approach the slaves who speak Dog and express their interest, and after some persuasion the Otters relent. A few Dogs speak Otter, increasing each turn until the entire tribe is fluent or conversational after 2 more turns. Dogs notice that in the mornings, thick mist and fog fills the valleys between the hills, and the nights grow colder and colder with the wind.

Development: Baking! Sheeps discover that by grinding wheat, they can create flour. With flour and a few other ingredients, they can create bread! From there, a world of new culinary delights are revealed! Noodles, pastries, breads, cakes and other things are all added to the ever expanding Sheep palette!

Action 1: A massive baking competition is held, hosted by the renowned Chef Gordon Ramsy. The winner of this is declared the first Master-Baker in all of Sheepmanity! In addition, they will bake the refreshments for the continuing Otter-Sheep diplomatic talks. Sheeps hope the Otters will enjoy these confections.

Action 2: A Watch is formed out of willing Sheep. The Watch is armed with the finest available equipment, including bronze Pickaxes, Crossbows, and armor, as well as Bear Coursers, bred for endurance. Their duties include protecting the settlements from attack and infiltration, patrolling the area around said settlements, and exploring new areas and scouting new lands for the glory of all Sheep-kind! Their first task is the location and liberation of the captive Sheep, who even now suffer under the oppressively isolationist Lizards! Under Watch-Commander Otto von Baasmarck, the heroic Watch ride for their missing brethren!

(Watch is under orders, locate and liberate captives, minimal casualties on Lizards if possible. Scout before engaging.)

Watch Strategy-

Approach at the brink of night, light enough to see, dark enough that people are going to sleep. Sunset, etc. Move in at a brisk pace, but ensure that it is slow enough not to draw up a dust-trail.

When in proper range of the encampment, separate and secure the captives with a section of Ramstruppen. Another Ramstruppen section will ensure that the Lizards do not interfere. They have permission to use lethal force, but are told to use only as a last resort. Prisoners will be evacuated aboard the emptied out supply carts from the Baargonaut. Barreiters will act as a rearguard as they fallback.
From there, all Watch combat elements will evacuate. The evacuees will be returned to the coastal settlement aboard the Baargonaut, and the Watch will remain on land, and return to the nearest friendly settlement after ensuring the safe departure of the Baargonaut.

A 'section' is 8-12 Sheep. Understrength sections will be merged with other understrength sections.

>Ramstruppen-- Early mobile-infantry. Ride into combat in specialized carts built for combat. Equipped with Heavy Crossbows, Pickaxes, and Armor. 2 Sections.

>Barreiter-- Bear-mounted cavalry used for skirmishing. Carry Light Crossbows and a small bronze dagger. 1 Section.

>Barkavalier-- Bear-mounted cavalry used for shock tactics. None present.

SHEEP!
One bright Sheep mashes up some wheat, resulting in flour! Studying the properties of this new substance (via the scientific method, of course) they realize that combining it in a solution with binding agents and liquids then exposing it to heat produces BREAD! Sheep learn how to make noodles and flatbread, but do not have any yeast agents to make it rise as yet. Sheep gain +3 pop growth for this discovery! They also form a sort of domestic patrol, although it's difficult for them to share their nine bears to roam across the entirety of their land, tunnels, and also down south where they have a few searching for Lizards. These patrols will give Sheep an edge in defending their land! And they set out for their first mission to recover the lost members of the Herd in the south. More on that below.

RATS!
Inventing a new way to store and cure things, Rats craft barrels! This enables them to produce more alcohol at a time, store more food at a time, and store food more securely than ever before. Rats gain a +1 pop boost for the tech, and are sure to have enough food for the coming winter. It also makes trade easier as they can transport and carry more things than ever before on their deer carts! They also use their steady supply of wood to create a fleet of ships that can sail at sea, starting to fish regularly. This grants another +1 pop boost, giving Rats a variety of food income to see them through from the harvest to the new planting season. They assign new fisher-rats accordingly, redistributing some former farmers while leaving others to maintain their livestock and breeding programs. Other Rats train with the Penguins again, but they don't seem to learn anything new - perhaps they are too distracted watching the way that Penguins and Raccoons interact. They're curious people, seemingly at odds with one another, but the Raccoons are in awe of the lonely mountain and are eager to trade with Penguins for its riches. The Trade Lord from the town closest to the Rats is sure to gain much standing if there's iron inside of it, while the Penguins are curious about these fat furry things. Shit gets real however when some of the Penguins' pearls go missing, as Raccoons don't understand the personal nature of the tokens and show up wearing them to negotiations. Penguins are livid, and demand that Rats explain this impropriety at once - meanwhile, Raccoons suggest that Rats broker a nice peaceful meeting where they can all enjoy some tea to sort this out. Perhaps one of your Princes can handle it?

>>2201716
DOGS!
Stunned by the brilliance displayed by the Otters in using putrid fish for an edge in battle, Dogs begin to study the basics of biological welfare. They can't turn their noses off, but they do find that rubbing a certain bright-scented herb around their nose numbs it, making offensive smells less penalizing in a fight. It's a start! Meanwhile, they appoint guards to enforce law on the homefront, keeping things running smoothly and formalizing their methodology. Dogs have come a long way! They feel like they can sleep safely at night.

Finally, Dogs sit down with their Otter slaves, who they captured forcibly, thwarted the escape of, and then violently recaptured along with some of their friends while also killing other of their friends. Dogs ask if they can't all just get along? Dogs give Otters The Puppydog Eyes and wag their tails. Otters are nonplussed. Even though they now share two languages with Dogs, they are beyond words. The representatives of the reclaimed slave Otters and the captured Otters sit in silence for a long moment after the Dogs' charade about creating peace between Otters, who were minding their own business, and Dogs, who raided their camps and slaughtered and stole their people to work in horrific conditions as slaves. Oh, and sacrificed them in excruciatingly painful ways for their own gain, let's not forget that.

Well then.

The silence is broken when all of the Otters in the room surge at once, besting the surprised Dog guards and wresting their weapons away from them. Dr. Lightfur and Chief Barkly are killed, along with the other Dogs in the room, before anyone can react. The Otters shout a rallying cry that almost sounds more like a song, and remaining Otters revolt from within the fortress. Seizing what weapons they can grab or improvise, and some that had been hidden, they fight their way to the main gate, where an Otter on mooseback charges and busts them open from within! Dog guards scramble to their posts, notching arrows to their bows, but they only manage to down 9 of the fleeing Otters.

All Otter captives and slaves have escaped, and when the Dogs rush to their stables to follow on mooseback, they find the door barred from the inside!

All told, 6 Dogs and 9 Otters perish. Dogs supply of ore is interrupted, and they lose 7 pop growth due to the loss of the bonuses from their slaves. The good news is, they're so used to losing now that they don't face any morale penalty!

THE BATTLE OF RUNNING BEAR
Sailing south, the Sheep Watch organize themselves into 3 sections of 12 Sheep, 36 total, planning out an elaborate strike team style rescue. They make their way to where they had found the Lizard tribe, not needing to worry about dust because it's been raining recently! They move to infiltrate the camp as the sun goes down, but the Lizards are wide awake, and they rapidly respond to the invaders! It seems Lizards don't let their guard down easily, especially when they are most active. 40 Lizards respond to the warning cry, ululating in a high pitched sound that carries through the setting night. The Sheep are met by the Lizards wearing bone masks and bone armor. Using crossbows to target the weak spots in their armor, several Sheep manage to take down Lizards, while Lizards wielding shiny black daggers rush forward, slipping their blades between the chinks in the bronze armor of the wooly assailants. When all is said and done, 16 Sheep perish and 7 Lizards die, before the Sheep begin to retreat. (20 Sheep, 33 Lizards)

The rear guard rides in to cover their retreat, but the Lizards pursue the Sheep! The Barreiter have a hard time being of much use, because they only have 4 bears present in the battle, the Sheep tribe only have 9 total! And you wanted at LEAST 8 of them present, you fools! The lackluster rear guard experiences 3 casualties, including the bears, while taking down 4 more Lizards. They chase the remaining Sheep across the scrub filled desert, managing to herd them away from the shoreline. Damn, the Lizards are fast. (17 Sheep, 29 Lizards)

The Sheep can't stop, or the Lizards will get them! They run and run, until they are hopelessly lost in the scrubland. With the shore nowhere in sight, the Lizards begin to fade away, and the Sheep are pretty sure they have stopped pursuing them. They figure they have enough supplies to last for one turn until they need to find food and water to survive. Still, they can't shake the feeling that they are being watched...

Sheep lose 3 bears, setting them back in their progress toward a sustainable bear population.
19 Sheep die, while another 17 are lost with a fourth bear.
None of the hostages are recovered.

Develop: Sheep guilli suits. Sheep already paint themselves and are pretty fluffy. Sheep disguise themselves and bushes and shrubs and vegetation for stealth.

Action 1: At midday, 6 gilli sheep with knives and crossbows will sneak into the lizard town to liberate the sheep captives and hopefully capture a lizard using rope to bind and gag them. They will use the knowledge of the town layout from the failed attack to help them sneak undetected. This is a covert mission and stealth is of utmost importance. If caught they need to explain that sheep don't want to be hostile since clearly that isn't lizard intention, they want the captives back and to diplo.

-Development: The Judicial System. With the coming problems of running a road network at hand, The Rat Clan will need to adapt their law system for handling disputes not only between their own citizens, but between other groups that travel upon our roads. The Rat Clan builds a courthouse in Nezugawa to act as the center of this legal system.

-Action 1: Call The Penguins and The Raccoons to send their representative that has the authority to sign contracts. For a time we’ve allowed relatively free access to our roads, however in light of the recent problems from last turn we shall now require those who wish to travel upon Rat Roads to sign a contract agreeing to our terms, as listed in the pdf attached to this post.

-Action 2: Build The Lonely Mountain Mine. As all the legal comotion is going on, The Rat Clan still has not bothered to cash in on the mining deal with the penguins, and decide that now is a good time to construct that mine at The Military Outpost before legal clout gets involved.

With our birth rate dropping faster than an otter can run. Dogs are desperate for any way they can prevent there own extinction. While Dr woofy's office is being cleaned out by his assistant Lotte Clawpaw she comes across notes on something animal husbandry. The ideas are incomplete but it seems to Clawpaw that Woofy was on to something. She feels compelled to complete the work he started.

Action
The new chief of the guard Tedric Greyfur after being installed by emergency election. He suggests that we do something about our empty mines and unmanaged farms. Submitting that a restructuring of the profession is needed. This is exactly what happens. no longer will all dogs be hunters. 50% will be hunters, 20% will be miners, 20% will be working in agriculture, 5% will be craftsmen and finally, 5% will be scientists.

Action
After the deaths of our leaders and the escape of the otters. It has grown painfully clear that we are not safe in our own lands. to fix this it is decided that a series of military outposts must be built across our lands to protect from any incursions. These outposts will be connected with roads and have signal fires ready to light at the first sign of trouble so that our forces will be ready to meet them with a proper dog welcome. The outpost will also have moose riders stationed in them that patrol across our lands so that our enemies can never again freely walk into dog lands again. the building effort is being overseen by our newly appointed chief craftsmen Mari Whitetail who manages all construction projects.

RATS!
Building that mine they talked about with the Penguins, Rats gain access to a steady stream of their own gold, lead, and gems. Rats are curious about why the birds would allow them to just ...have whatever they mine, and Penguins explain that gold and lead are both pretty on their own, but they don't value them very highly until they have been alloyed together and blessed to become icestone, which is better than either alone. Meanwhile, Rats codify their system of law, and build a courthouse to oversee the judicial system that has been created to enforce it. In accordance with their new system of laws, the Rats decide that adjudicating the dispute between the Racoons and Penguins is the best way to remain impartial, since their roads are what have been abused to allow such affronts. Both Penguins and Raccoons agree to hear the Rats out. The contract and according hearings spin the Penguins' and Raccoons' heads around, and both sign with a mild air of confusion. Raccoons have no reason to object to respecting other people's property according to laws, and Penguins have no reason to object to allowing others to trade with them so long as no laws are violated. Whether or not Raccoons can behave will be another matter entirely, but with all parties agreed, the dispute between the two tribes seems to simmer down. Penguins formally request that their pearls be returned forthwith, and Raccoons say "Pearls? What pearls?" and offer to trade some nice pickled robin eggs instead.

DOGS!
Going through the notes of the brilliant Dr. Whatever's office, a Dog finds a thin copper tablet engraved with ideas for spreading water through their crops from their wells. 'Irrigation' as it is dubbed helps improve the output of the Dog crops, though the harvest season is nearly over. They find that the access to water and food attracts more small prey animals like chipmunks and skunks that they in turn capture and eat. This grants a +1 pop boost! Meanwhile, they restructure their social roles, restoring access to their metals and also improving the focus and understanding on other matters. The shift from pure hunters to a combination of hunters and agriculture and animal farming gives a morale boost as the Dogs feel more secure in having food on the table, granting another +1 pop boost. Finally, outposts are created along the borders of Dog territory, with signal fires and watchmen to ensure that no Penguin or Otter can again slip into the heart of their territory undetected. The watchtowers toward the east spy Otter sailboats slipping across the bay from time to time, small fishing vessels that don't get any closer. No sign is seen of Penguins, though their tower pushes right up against the edge of where their patrols once ran.

SHEEP!
Inspired by ways in which they already dress up their wool, some Sheep have an idea to become masters of stealth! They create the ghillie suit by sticking dried branches, leaves and fibers into their wool, making them look to a casual observer like part of the scenery. Or a strangely trimmed shrubbery, depending. Donning these new suits, Sheep wait until the height of the day and sneak into the Lizard settlement. They make it almost all the way to the makeshift pen that holds the captives before they run into a Sheep who has joined the Lizard clan, accompanied by two Lizards. Both sides stare at the other, before a Lizard grabs a ghillie Sheep, and a ghillie Sheep grabs a Lizard, both holding them hostage, but neither killing outright. Looks like we have a Mexican standoff, folks, and an opening of communications. The Sheep explain to the Lizards (and Lizard-Sheep) that they don't want to harm anyone, they apologize for the previous mistake of sneaking in to Lizard territory, they just want their people back. Lizards explain that the Sheep are literally sneaking in to their territory right now, and that many of the Sheep have joined their clan and have been doing very well, thank you.

The Lizards explain that they must remain on the move to avoid being caught by surprise. They are impressed that the Sheep managed to find them again however, and as a show of good faith they release the ghillie Sheep they have as leverage. Sheep release their captive Lizard, and the mood lightens somewhat, while the Lizard-Sheep bleats a query if he can return to his own people now. Sheep explain that they would like to open diplomatic talks based at the coastal tower so that their Sheep can be returned to the Herd. Lizards explain that this sounds amenable and they will send their leadership there to meet the Sheep, but they request that the scrublands and desert remain Sheep-free as they don't want to attract any undue attention. Sheep ask what they mean by this, and Lizards answer that their leaders can tell you more. They also tell Sheep where to find their lost brethren, restoring them to the Herd. It looks like things are looking up for the Sheep! The Lizards return the hostage Sheep as they have been found anyway, but they give the Lizard-joined Sheep the option of remaining or returning to the Herd. 4 Sheep opt to remain with the Lizards, leaving the Sheep tribe permanently, while the rest return. Sheep morale rises, gaining a +1 pop boost!

SHEEP! (II)
Elsewhere, Sheep speak with Otters, with many questions for the furry creatures. Now that they have established peaceful relations, Otters let their guard down, ferrying some Sheep into the small settlement they found. They explain that they have been under constant attack from another tribe to the west, fearsome howling creatures. Otters tell Sheep that they had always lived peaceful lives until they had to defend themselves, developing a very protective culture where once they had been carefree and fun. They tell Sheep that the River likes their fun and games, and they once strove to create beautiful things to offer up to it: woven tapestries, melodic songs, marimba solos. But since their people were being hunted and enslaved, they had to set aside such innocent endeavors. They show Sheep some of their books of artwork, bright colors crafted from the shells of shellfish painting impressionistic visages of their capital city and the bountiful rivers they call home. Sheep tell Otters that they too have been the victims of violence, but that they seek to explore and learn all they can about the land. Otters offer a new instrument to the Sheep, the marimba, a faceted drum formed out of seashells, as a sign of goodwill.

For trade, Otters have:
Paper, papermaking tech, cotton, cotton-working tech, sugarcane, shellfish varieties, sailboat tech, kidney beans, stringbeans, livestock chickens, art, dyes, acorns, maps, and what they call 'Wavesinging', though Sheep have a hard time understanding exactly what that is. It appears to be a form of magic that helps navigate and pilot watercraft that Otters are able to do. Wavesingers would gladly accompany Sheep on naval voyages for a suitable offering/fee.

Develop: Paper Chinese lanterns.

Action 1: Meet the lizards at twilight. Give the customary offering of a lizard stone sculpture & some food. Ask about all things lizard (history, culture, things for trade etc). & most importantly, why so scared?

Action 2: Trade with otters. Swap carrots, tomatoes, okra, pigs, wheat & breadmaking for Kidney beans, string beans, sugarcane, Cotton, paper & paper making. Also offer to swap military tools ( quicklime grenades to sling) for wave singers to help otters vs the howling creatures, and to help sheep explore the world.
Swap a horn in exchange for the Marimba. Maybe sheep and otters could have a music and arts get together when otters have sorted out their terrible war?

Fashion: Males decorate and sharpen their horns.

-Development: Trade Guilds. Now that The Rat Clan’s businesses are starting to expand into a real merchant economy, various guilds shall need to be established for the goods and services that come out of The Downlands. We shall found guilds for checking the quality of goods, training apprentices, and regulating production.

-Action 1: Fix The Stealing Issue. Talk to The Trade Lord and tell them that holding those pearls is against the terms of the contract, and if they don’t help us find who stole them and return them to their rightful owners then we’ll need to be issuing a 60% tariff to Raccoon goods and trade. They will have not be put under penalty status if they can manage to get the pearls back.

-Action 2: San shall be taking a few boats and setting on an expedition following South along the coast from Shikaminato. This scouting mission is made for the express purpose of studying various sea life and new coastal habitats.

-Bonus Development: Wooden Sandals. As travel in Rat Clan becomes more common, The Clan will be relying on its feet more often than ever, and making those walks as comforting as possible by making sure people aren't walking around on bare feet.

RATS!
Deciding to streamline their society in the same way that the judicial clarity afforded them, Rats come up with the idea of guilds, almost like the Raccoon trade lords, led by Rats who are experts in their craft to teach their apprentices how to best go about their trade. This increases production and quality across all facets of Rat life, gaining an increase in income from Raccoons and Penguins as well as ensuring the peaceful tribe remains happy. No one can argue that Rat craftsmen are the best around at what they do, from brewing to shipcraft to cuisine! Prince San decides to set out on a voyage along the shore, but before he can get to the boats a harsh storm peppers the coast, making it impossible (or highly inadvisable) to set out at all. By the time the storm passes, there is a thick layer of ice frozen atop the sea, and their boats are unable to depart. No fishing this turn! While they're all hiding indoors from the storm, a Rat craftsman creates wooden sandals, starting a revolution. This is the perfect way to keep their strange hand-feet from getting chilly while they walk across the frigid earth!

Rats approach the nearby Trade Lord, explaining that they need to return the stolen items or face a heavy trade and travel tariff. The Trade Lord balks at this, explaining that he is not responsible for the actions of a lesser Raccoon, but if it puts the Rats and Penguins at ease, he will look into it. He never gets back to the Rats, but the Penguins find their pearls laying by the side of the road just outside their settlement, so ...that's something. The Trade Lord is offended by the accusations and once word gets out that the pearls were returned, questions that a Raccoon was even involved to begin with, accusing the Rats of trying to create problems. The Trade Lord reminisces about the time that Rats poisoned Raccoons and reminds the Rats that they suffered no consequence for such an egregious abuse of trust, implying that relations between the two have chilled significantly. However, the Trade Lord informs the Rats that the woolen people to the east have offended them by flying some manner of thing over their mountain, and they inquire about Rats interest in helping destroy such affronts to their sovreignty.

The mountains begin to snow steadily, intermingled with bouts of chilling rain that creates patches of ice. The downlands are flooded with thick fog from sundown to mid-morning every day.

DOGS!
Having made it nearly to the iron age, Dogs decide that it's about time that they develop a written language. A series of indentations and dashes are pecked into thin sheets of hammered copper, allowing them to communicate in a more reliable manner across distances and time. They also invent skinwraps out of the hides of their prey - more comfortable and flexible than their armor. Dogs craft a great granary just beside the fortress, storing their crops inside to preserve them for the winter, and acting as an expansion of their store room. Many cured meats begin to accumulate inside, and just in time, as snow begins to fall on the hills of the Dogs territory. It melts come morning, but it is the first indication that the season is truly on its way to change. Dogs manage to capture antelope, quail, turkey and boars for domestication, meaning they should have a steady supply of fresh meat through the winter with any luck. The boars are combative and the antelope seem stressed, but the turkey and quail just kinda chill and lay their eggs. They gain a +4 pop boost for increasing their supply of food.

SHEEP!
Studying the properties of various things, Sheep in the academy have a breakthrough that heat rises. Why exactly they don't quite understand yet, but reliably, again and again, heated air rises over cooled air. Combined with their understanding of steam and pressure, this sparks a brilliant idea involving their newly acquired paper. A Sheep scientist works all day and night perfecting a prototype, inadvertantly creating paper lanterns! They work! Which only fuels the ambitions of the Sheep to take to the skies, and they begin working on a larger prototype. The paper is an unreliable and unstable canopy for larger balloons though, and Sheep decide to use their new papermaking method with wool fibers pressed amid the plant fiber material to actually become airborne. It works! The reinforced paper is more flexible but also stronger, and the first Sheep takes to the sky in a woven wooden basket. They gain a basic understanding of aeronautics, and run more tests on the prototypes they have to work out how best to proceed with future full size models! Their air balloons are currently very slow and difficult to navigate with any accuracy. And god help them if they get wet...

The first balloon rises above the mountain, exposing some nearby Raccoon settlements. This is sure to go over well with the Raccoons.

SHEEP (II)
Meanwhile, Sheep meet the Otters and trade lots of vegetables for more vegetables and the secret of papermaking and cotton. The new foods grant +4 pop growth! They also swap for a marimba, which pleases the Otters quite a bit, as music is very important to them! Because Sheep were interested in the Otter's music, they agree to accept the help of the quicklime mines, and take note of the warning to keep them far away from water. That will be hard for Otters to do! But they will manage. Otters agree to send 2 Wavesingers to accompany Sheep voyages, offering a +12 to naval rolls including navigation and combat. This stacks with the Baargonaut's bonus! They explain that they would love to send more Otters on adventures with you, but they have felt something change in the sea and they worry about stretching themselves too thin. Not all Otters have been blessed by their shrine, they explain, so the Wavesingers are in high demand. But thanks for the quicklime!

Male Sheep begin to decorate and sharpen their horns, forming different patterns to go with their hairstylings. This new height of fashion spreads across the Herd in record time, with all of the female Sheep seeking males with fancier and better horn decorations. The sharpness doesn't ...do much, but they do it anyway.

Finally, the Lizards. The fat Lizard leader approaches the tower, apparently not accompanied by only one other Lizard, though Sheep on the tower see hints of movement. They are being watched. The chieftain also has a camel with bags loaded full of goods. The Lizard chieftain explains that Lizards have long been a nomadic people, as their earliest days were plagued by constant attacks from beyond the island. Craft would float off shore, and hideous, shiny creatures would raid their earliest villages, carrying away Lizards never to be seen again. They tried to parlay with the creatures at first, but they would not respond, leading the tribe to become nomadic for their own defense. Since then, they have only seen the creatures a handful of times, but not recently. That was how they found their oasis, they explain - a hidden paradise deep in the desert that now acts as the Lizards main camp. They decline to inform Sheep where to find it, but imply that it is lush and full of life, and they seem assured that it is safe, especially to the creatures. When Sheep inquire about trade, the Lizards offer silk, coffee, obsidian, camel milk and cheese, and diamonds. They say that life has been hard in the desert and they do not have much to offer, but they make do with what they've been able to scavenge. They seem interested in the jewels that Sheep have, and the stories they have heard from their Sheep of fertilizer, quicklime, glass and crossbows. They have been heavily streamlined for their nomadic life, but the idea of being able to fight against the creatures who once stole them away excites the Lizards, who say they "cannot wait to tell her" of their new friends.

Development: Finally putting all their new iron to use, the Rats have iron armor forged for their warriors.

Action 1: In order to keep the peace and hopefully dissuade future crimes like theft, some warriors are stationed in towns and along roads as a police force.

Action 2: Since the sea is not cooperating, San gets another idea. He pulls out the mysterious artifact and takes note of the needles. From his current position in Shikaminato, he should be far enough away from the shrine to see if there are any differences in its behavior. He and his animal companion will explore in whatever new direction the artifact points them to, or if there is no new direction, they will explore East while watching the artifact closely.

Free: The Rats offer further trade support if the Raccoons seek it, though they make it known that no Rats will be sent to fight across the mountains. But short of that, the Rats are willing to hear what kind of goods the Raccoons seek from them, or are willing to give in exchange.

Develop: highly addictive drug from our plants , street name "fleece"

Action 1: trade coffee plant for teaching agriculture ( if they allow us) and diamonds for quicklime. Also tell lizards we have a fantastic new invention thatll let us explore lands from high up like a bird. We can scout for their attackers for them and a lizard could join is if they'd like. In return sheep would like lizards to teach our scouts survival and stealth methods to help us with our quest to explore the world. We'd prefer to avoid being kidnapped again, especially by the malicious sources lizards gave warned us exist. Sheep will have a presence at the coastal port/tower if lizards need to be in touch in future

Action: Get in touch with a guard racoon. Tell him sheep have alot of new and amazing stuff we'd be willing to trade for metals, but after the previous incident sheep are uncertain about approaching trade lords. As evidence give him the super fun luxury drug to sample and sell/give out to his friends and at trade Lord's parties. This will make everything 100% more fun and is something racoons with their hedonistic ways will love. The guard could even sell himself for a pretty penny.
Tell him to pass out the drug and to pass on the message that sheep want to trade. Give him a diamond as payment for now since sheep don't have money. If he needs more "fleece" then sheep will gladly sell him some, this first sample is free. Sorry for being shady, sheep don't want to cause any distrust amongst the trade lords and feel they'll be more willing to trade if they experience out goods first. Make sure all elite who can afford sheep merchandise sample this. If things go.smoothly , he'll be a very wealthy racoon.
If he refuses, offer to another guard until 1 accepts the offer of putting sheep.and racoons on good terms while becoming rich in the process.

SHEEP!
Trading for coffee and diamonds, Sheep have plenty of materials that can help them craft an addictive product. The caffiene from coffee, the sweetness of sugarcane, a few flowers that were usually reserved for medicinal purposes and BAM! They create Fleece, which is a stimulant with mildly hallucinogenic properties. Sheep actually try it themselves, and dance the night away in mountainside raves while their single marimba is flanked by guitars. Sheep now have an addiction problem amongst the Herd. They then decide to trade this to Raccoons, who love ANY new cultural thing, and the guard they passed a supply to wastes no time before sharing it with his friends. Raccoons now have an addiction problem! Unfortunately it hasn't quite made it to the Trade Lords yet, but in a few turns it's sure to happen. The Raccoon guard will come back for more next week. Meanwhile, dealing with Lizards, Sheep trade agricultural knowledge and and quicklime for diamonds and coffee. Solid trade, Sheep. However, the Lizards are adamant that they don't need any help, that they have their own things sorted out. Lizards thank Sheep for their trade and disappear into the desert once again. Should Sheep need to find them, they can wait at the tower and supposedly Lizards will come to meet them in a matter of days.

DOGS!
Thinking about the various troubles that the Dogs have faced, finding things was rarely one of them. But Lotte Clawpaw considers that by looking at the stars, Dogs can compare where things are in the world to better navigate! Finally, Dogs begin constructing fireplaces in their houses, gaining a morale boost from the utter comfiness of their abodes. With winter right around the corner, they'll be toastier than ever while they lick their own buttholes in privacy! The morale boost brings a +1 pop boost.

RATS!
With a greater supply of iron at their disposal, Rats decide it's time to upgrade the armor of their main fighting forces. Tempering the iron, they craft heavier defensive plates and rings that make their front line infantry less mobile, but more likely to survive. They also station a police force along their owned roads, both maintaining the peace and keeping an eye out for trouble. Penguins offer to supply a small force of their own patrols along the trade road, since that is what they do best! The Raccoons decline the Rats' offer of trade, saying that they are more concerned with defense than their store rooms, but thanks. Finally, Prince San and his black doe set out east to study the reactions of the artifact. The needles seem to recalibrate several times, but eventually the main one seems to pick a direction to the south east. San and his familiar travel there, but the needle leads him to the edge of a cliff overlooking the sea, and he pauses, stumped. There's nothing there...

But his familiar nudges his leg, then walks over the edge! A carefully hidden and very carefully constructed path is carved into the face of the cliff itself, somewhat treacherous and steep. Following his familiar, the Prince finds a tremendous starburst carved into the face of it, while a small pile of old ropes and lengths of metal links are strewn through a small alcove at the base of it. The needles go wild. Approaching with reverence, he attempts to speak to this new shrine, and receives no answer at first. He runs a finger along the edge of the alcove, and is overwhelmed by the aura of power he feels from the spirit within.

Only when he dismisses his familiar - sets her free - does something seem to shift, and a soft sound whispers from the shrine. "You carry the mark of my sister," it says, so faint that against the wind off the sea and the waves down below, San must strain to hear her, "Who are you, and what brought you to me? You are no child of chains or tyranny. What do you seek?"

>Rats have found the CLIFF SHRINE, the shrine of FREEDOM and STRENGTH. It champions BALANCE.

-Development: Standard Measurements. We shall start to abandon the old methods of inaccurate measurements, and instead adopt a more uniform system so all our goods can be transported in correct amounts and made to exact measurements.

Some example measurements are as follows:
*The Standard Chestnut: Around 2 Inches / 8 Centimeters
*The King’s Segment: Around 10 Inches / 25 Centimeters
*The Blackstone Pebble: Around 1 Gram
*The Blackstone Brick: Around 2 Lbs / 1 Kilogram
*The Cider Standard: Around 1 Liter
*The Barrel: Around Around 100 Liters

-Action 1: Build a Monastery. Sail some workers down to The New Shrine and carve a stairway up the cliff face like in the image included and build a monastery on top of the cliff. We’ll be using this place to dock and continue our contact with The Balance Shrine.

-Action 2: Ask The Tree Shrine about The Balance Shrine. We’re rather unsure about how to approach the fellow shrine at the moment, and would like to know how it feels about them. We want to ask what she might like as offerings, and if the two can coexist with the same followers.
>>
Develop: ubersheepch mentality. Sheep will grow more wool the better they treat themselves. No sheep should go without being able to see the glory of their own body mastered. Health and fitness while avoiding toxins is viewed as a sign of a well adjusted and successful sheep. This discourages sheep fleece consumption as shameful while the pursuit of one's own physical and mental limits are praised.

Action 1: move the fleece production far from where it can tempt the masses, moving our drug production to the desert near our port tower.

Action 2: produce more balloons and stock them on the baargonaut , transforming it into a mobile unburnable aircraft carrier in preparation for sheeps great voyage to map the world

SHEEP!
Overwhelming popular opinion and peer pressure causes Fleece usage by the Herd to fall out of favor, and their addiction problem is over before it even began. Phew! Keeping with that, and to ensure no one else is tempted, Sheep move their production further from civilization, creating little wooden huts in the middle of the woods that glow from within at odd hours of the night. Not creepy at all. They've successfully turned the woods into That Part of Town where mother Sheep won't let their kids out after dark. Anyway, that all worked out nicely, so they decide to try strapping hot air balloons to the Baargonaut. Due to a variety of reasons, including their continued lack of metal to support the enormous weight of the craft, which is much bigger than anything they've ever made airborne before, not to mention the fact that the ship is UNSINKABLE not UNBURNABLE, this fails horribly. The Baargonaut is fine, although a stray cinder has definitively proven that it CAN burn, and leaves a little black splotch to prove it.

RATS!
Because they can never get too much of THAT NUT, Rats decide that they can standardize a system of measurements based around them. And also cider, and pebbles. This increases their overall level of advancement, offering up future opportunities for the Rat tribe with fewer roadblocks. It also ensures they have a steady record of precisely what and how much of things they own or acquire, meaning that they will notice should anything be going missing a little at a time. Raccoons are fascinated by this development, and wonder if they can borrow this system of measurements! Of course they rename them in Raccoon fashion, trying to base them off of the width of a Raccoon's hands, the weight of a Raccoon, and the volume of a Raccoon's tail. This ...doesn't go so well, and eventually they just use the Rat system directly.

Sailing down to where San found the other shrine, Rats carve a more stable stairway into the cliff face, winding up toward the altar itself and the cliff above it. They build a monstary there for their monks to attend to, and they promptly devote their time to studying the shrine and trying to commune with it. Speaking of shrines, the Highest Rat attends to the Tree shrine in the Black Palace, presenting an offering before inquiring about the findings of his youngest son. The shrine does not hesitate before answering, the leaves of the shrine's tree rustling with excitement.

RATS! (II)
"My youngest sister," she declares, "She was ever carefree, and to know that she still holds out hope warms me so. To be bound in this way was an unthinkable fate for her - she was the wind that roamed across the plains, the clouds jetting across the sky, the breaking light of dawn that chased away the shadows of night. Being still was never her forte, nor being subdued her will. If you must win her favor, refuse her conditions, and choose your own way forward. She loves all things cast off, all broken prisons - eggshells, bindings, cocoons. She will not hold against you your service to me, we all share the same goal, though we have different methods. You are not 'mine' or 'hers' - nor would she like anyone beholden to her, or anyone else. If you are to earn her blessings, be unafraid most of all, for the letting go of worries will free your hearts."

DOGS!
With winter around the corner, Dogs decide that the best use of their time is to SHAKE UP THEIR GOVERNMENT STRUCTURE! Yeah, I don't know why either, folks. Especially since their previously mandated form of government consisted of picking the STRONGEST, BEST FIGHTER to be their leader for LIFE. So some Dogs go up to the Chieftain and they're like, hey, you're relieved of duty because we can't call ourselves the Reich while you're our leader, and that goes about as well as you can imagine. When it's all over, the Chieftain is dead, so are six other Dogs who tried to remove him from power, and there is a period after the coup when Dogs at large are generally afraid to be anywhere near the fortress for fear of further uprisings and chaos. Morale slips significantly with the appointment of the Kaiser and his hand-picked Senate, who they cannot be sure are strong and sure like their old leaders. Pop growth is reduced by 3 as a result of the coup and instability.

Speaking of instability, Dogs never quite thought through bringing a bunch of wild animals into their fortress. 3 Dogs are gored to death when a boar escapes the pens where they are held, and the rest have been growing rowdier as the weather gets colder. The Dogs will either need to put them down or domesticate them.
>>

DOGS! (II)
They scout to the west and south, and find black bears digging for tubers for one last meal before the winter hibernation. They also find ravens preying on the carcasses of the black bear's last meal. On the other side of their mountain, Dogs find a lake that is frozen over, surrounded by a forest that seems promising. Finally, they do more research on their redstone, and find that when dipped in blood it becomes easier to work into new shapes. They can now manipulate and craft the redstone they possess, making it possible for use as Dog-shaped armor, arrowheads, and more! This certainly seems like a step toward lasting [s]genocide[/s] peace with the Penguins. They know it's very hard and very light given that it's actually made out of enchanted trash metals, and that whatever protection the original icestone enchantment offered, their shrine has twisted it to work for them instead. Upon contact with other magical objects, the enchantment of the redstone 'infects', spreading itself seemingly endlessly. But the only other magical things they have to test it out on are icestone samples from old Penguin raids, so. Gain of salt, maybe.

-Development: Chains. We’ve seen examples of metal chains along the balance shrine, and now we’ve decided that we’ll start to craft linked chains of our own to explore its uses. With any hope we think we may find greater security on our caravans with these, as until now we’ve been relying on leather strips to tie down cargo.

-Action 1: Begin putting the monks living at The Monastery to work training day in and day out to appeal to the strength aspect of The Shrine. They shall grow strong so that they may bind themselves in clains and break free from their bonds using the might of their bodies alone.

-Action 2: Send a team of merchants into Raccoon lands to establish Trade-Post Embassy to act as an express middle-man for trade deals between Raccoon Clan and The Rat Clan. Though our relations may have seemed to cool in recent, we expect that more business opportunities may be an order to keep this relationship all the more profitable.

Upon further clarification, Sheep were not trying to get the Baargonaut airborne, and thus they do not need a roll for that action.

Sheep make room for up to 4 deflated balloons on the Baargonaut, limiting the number of Sheep it can hold to 21 instead of 25. The balloons will be able to take off from the Baargonaut, but where they come down is, as always, a matter of chance, and may require retrieval.
>>
Development: Ways to steer/control our balloons. Sheep add propellers as well as fins to allow them to steer & control their balloons.

Action: Build smaller canoe boats with ballons tethered to them. These will be used to scout the immediate area around the Baargonaut & other sheep cruisers, like a swarm of sheep flies that can see for miles and miles across the ocean.

Action 2: EXPLORE THE OCEAN!
Finally it is time for sheep to continue our voyage. Hopefully the new wavesingers & land+sea exploring vechles will prove invaluable to make this voyage more successful than previously.
Head south but be prepared for conflict against the ones lizards warned us about.

Dev: one day kaiser whilhelm what thinking how can we make the distribution of water easier and cleaner? He thought of a type of tube that can carry water from large distances so he came up with the idea of pipes!
Action: After the goring of the 3 dogs by the boars the kaiser ordered the domestication of these animals just like the moose and the foxes by assigning the best tamer to domesticate them so we can have a stable source of food for winter but while this is happening assign a few archers to oversee the domestication in case anything happens
Action 2: the kaiser was learning the history of our tribe when he noticed the old raids on the Penguins and the amount of dogs they have lost so he thought to himself that "what happens if we were to befriend them?" So that's what he will do he orders a small envoy of dogs to make their way back to the penguin lands to see if the dogs can make peace and possibly even trade with them but they make sure to bring only a few weapons with them so the penguins will not get startled and aswell as tasking them to be as peaceful as possible

SHEEP!
Learning how to steer and manouver their balloons with fins and rudders, Sheep apply several of the same techniques they use for naval advancements for their aeronautic craft and find they work! Sheep are now able to more reliably guide their balloons, steer and even land them with greater accuracy. Balloons are now able to both take off from and land back on the Baargonaut! Their new fleet - the Baargonaut plus a cadre of smaller canoes which tether balloons - set out to explore the gulf. Between the enchantment of the Baargonaut and the Otter Wavesingers, they discover a northern Lizard settlement, the rest of the Otter towns including their capital, and the eastern-most Dog watchtowers. Sheep now have knowledge of the Dog tribe! They have charted the whole gulf and shoreline, though they will need to travel inland to discover the Dog fortress or other towns, or anything else on the Lizard peninsula. While sailing, they also run into several fishing fleets of Otter sailboats, who hail the Sheep and Wavesingers brightly.

At the desert watchtower, Sheep are surprised to find Lizards show up in the middle of the day, begging for more quicklime. The Lizards are under attack?!

DOGS!
Preparing for the cold(er) season, Dogs invent the pipe, granting a +2 pop boost from the access to purer water spread right from their wells. They manage to subdue the boars, learning to better tend to them and taking precautions to prevent any future incidents. Dogs also reinforce the boar pens with stone and copper, meaning those little piggies aren't going anywhere until it's time to go straight to the table. Finally, they send a scouting party of 10 Dogs to parlay with the Penguins. They run into a Penguin patrol deep in the other tribe's territory, and the Penguins react by taking defensive measures when they see the Dogs - but when the scouts indicate a lack of hostility, the Penguins seem ...puzzled. A Penguin rides off on their polar bear, coming back with reinforcements, including a young Dog who speaks both Penguin and Dog. The Penguin-tribe Dog asks what the Dogs want, and is surprised to inform the Penguins that Dogs seek an end to hostilities and trade. The Penguin-Dog says that the Penguins aren't sure they can trust the Dogs after the Dogs' history of attacking Penguin territory unprompted. They offer to take 8 Dogs with them to a Penguin settlement to discuss further, allowing the other 2 to return safely home to confirm that no violence took place.

RATS!
Inspired by what they found on the cliff shrine's altar, Rats begin crafting iron chains, which are much stronger and sturdier than leather cords. This helps them with mining, construction and ship operation, granting a cumulative +1 pop boost for its impact across Rat life. Using these new chains, Rat monks at their cliffside monastery begin practicing breaking out of them as a ritual to appease the shrine there. Once every few days, they send a monk down to commune with the shrine, and it seems to be honored by the Rats' efforts. The spirit within seems to be stronger, but it is still uncommon to hear from her. Meanwhile, other Rats head into Raccoon territory to establish an embassy and trading post. Raccoons ask for several forms to be filled out, and for a downpayment of iron tokens, which they are surprised to learn Rats have no issue affording. Raccoons seem to realize just how dependent they have become on the alcohol from the Rats, and Rats in the Raccoon territory notice several new buildings that serve as taverns where the Raccoons gather to drink and tell stories and take part in poorly produced melodramas about the Trade Lords and the evil Sheep. When Rat characters feature in these stories, they are naive and wide-eyed, always flattering the Raccoons on their many advancements and offering up gifts to the superior mountain clan. Each melodrama begins and ends with a booming voice - the Mountain - giving a benediction and blessing to the Raccoon tribe for their cleverness and devotion.

Anyway, Rats can now trade freely with Raccoons as a free action, including renegotiating current trades, beginning new trades, and terminating other trades. Raccoon resources or tech Rats do not yet possess that is available for trade include:
>Elevator tech, Sled tech, Bow+Arrow, Advanced Mining
>Silver, Tin, Copper, Quartz, Bronze
>Hedghogs, Sparrows, Chickens, Lynx
>Blackberries, Cabbage, Radishes, Spinach, Garlic
Raccoons also may be convinced to show you their capital city or be plied for information about their shrine.

TURN 40 BEGINS NOW!
>ANCHOR ANCHOR ANCHOR

Also to reiterate as I stated in Discord:
Upon hitting 750 pop tribes will be eligible for 'nation' status, able to define borders and gaining a BONUS! THIRD action per turn (EVERY TURN!). nations will be able to claim additional territory/become imperialistic, and dispute other tribes/nations' land holdings. Becoming a nation will require defining a state document (like a constitution) defining those borders, formalized system of governance/rule, etc. It is not mandatory, HOWEVER reaching that size as a tribe without having formalized those aspects will leave you vulnerable to splinter factions should morale drop below a certain point, as opposition leaders may arise with promises of a "better way"
>>
>>2226406
SHEEP! (II)
Raccoons come back for more Fleece, offering cider, quartz and tea for trade. If asked for iron, Raccoons are hesitant to part with their tokens.
>>
>>2226409
Also I never noted that Rats accepted Penguins' offer to patrol together, and Penguins now aid Rat patrols in their territory. Their relations are warmer.

Dev: the kaiser wants a "thing" that can hold things together and aswell as be sturdy enough that it won't break so lotte comes up with the screw this simple creation and hold things together and is made out of metal so it will be strong and won't have a risk of breaking. It can also be applied to multiple areas of life such as construction
Action: after the kaiser found out about the manipulation of the redstone he orders the creation of redstone armour to protect our solider lives and as well as make them stronger against any opponent that might want to attack us. This armour will replace our current ones all across the body
Action 2: with the invention of pipes and how useful they are lotte decides that we can use this to transport our waste! So they install a pipe line that transports our waste to a even bigger pipe that collects the waste from the other houses and buildings and dumps them to a giant hole that is located outside of the fortress and a bit underground this way it is more hygienic and to seem less barbaric
Free action: the dogs that were sent on this mission accept the Penguins deal and go with them while one of the dogs brings a clay tablet with them if needed to be used while the other two go back home and report back to the kaiser who authorized this mission. the list of diplomacy by the 8 dogs who went with the penguins goes like this: make peace, ask for the captured tribesmen if they wish to come back home and finally trade. The dogs will go over these points in detail and slowly to make sure they get all the points and to sound more professional.

-Development: Pear Sugar. The Rat Clan shall put our Pear crop to use in more than eating as a raw fruit. Now the fruits shall be cut into segments and dried, then milled into a fine, sweet powder that we use to extract the natural sugars from the pears.

-Action 1: Establish an Embassy Trade post in Penguin Clan. The Rat Clan has started to have warm relations with The Penguins, and it’s time that we create a point where we can have extended contact with one another and do business quickly.

-Action 2: Scout towards East Island. In the midst of setting up The Monk Order at The Monastery, San shall take an interest in the island formation that peeks above the waters in the distance off the coast of The Shrine’s Cliff. He shall take a group of his Ninja and go sailing, however along with this he shall have his Father come and attempt to summon a familiar while out at sea. He theorizes that this may bind a sea-based creature to him, and has an interest in testing this.

-Trade Actions:
*Trade Rat Potatoes for Raccoon Cabbage
*Trade Rat White Mushrooms for Raccoon Radishes
*Trade Rat Brown Mushrooms for Raccoon Spinach
*Trade Rat Gease for Raccoon Hedgehogs

Develop: martial arts
With the new sheeoermench mentality, sheep learn how to still be effective in combat when caught in any situation, whether it's a bad trade deal, being taken prisoner, ambushed at land or at sea. They focus on disarming and disabling their opponent as quickly as possible.

Action 1: help the lizards! Scout the South eastern area of the island with our balloons to see what's going on from high in the sky. And of course trade the Quicklime for silk worms.

Action 2: sheep are reasonable, there are many things sheep would happily trade for fleece. We enjoy that racoons are happy. Instead of asking for a large resource shipment back for each fleece shipment, instead we'll happily trade for some new edible/useful plant species each week for us to add to our gardens. Sheep enjoy gardening like raccoons enjoy fleece
