In a world now ravaged by Daemons, plagued with a slowly but inevitably approaching threat of eternal darkness, the true chosen king has disappeared. Baited by a patient and sadistic man, he slumbers within the crystal of light, nobody truly knowing where he lies, and why he went. But, that’s another story. Yours begins with a beat up pickup truck rumbling down a pothole riddled road.

In the cab, a man and a woman sit talking back and forth, likely about the mission at hand. You sit in the bed of the truck, making sure your cargo remains securely on the truck. Another man sits across from you, acting as lookout for any daemons popping up. The four of you are, or at least were, kingsglaives. Few of the many assigned to protecting and carrying out the will of the king. WIth the former king dead, and the chosen king vanishing, it’s all you can do to survive and protect the civilians who have made it to settlements with their lives intact.

Your thoughts begin to wander to other aspects of what being a former glaive means for your future, but you’re interrupted by the rough speech of the man across from you. He’s a big guy, for you. Ripped, scars across his face and exposed arms. Definitely not new to combat. “New guy. I never did catch your name.” You pause for a moment, fumbling for your own name then spitting it out, “Melisk.” You stick your hand out for a moment, only to be denied. He chortles, “If you can survive this mission, I’ll shake your hand. No use getting friendly with someone going to death.”

You think about the mission as he speaks about it. Transporting “Meteor Shards”, a chunk of rock that hums with untapped energy. Energy that old energy stations throughout the land can siphon in order to provide power and, most importantly, light. Your thoughts are once more interrupted by the combat-scarred man, “The name’s Bruno.” You go to say something but, as seems to be the norm, you’re interrupted. This time by Bruno hitting the top of the truck’s cab three times. If you remember correctly, that meant Daemons. “C’mon kid. Pick a weapon for now, you should know how to stow it correctly. You’ll get a second one later. Now, follow me, they’re just goblins so I can show you the ropes with them.”

You look around the cargo and spot a few different kinds of weapons. Question is, which do you want?

>A basic one-handed sword, a balance of speed and power.
>Twin daggers, a weapon perfect for those who like to get up close and personal but dance away from ever getting hit.
>Two-handed hammer, a devastating, if slow and unwieldy, weapon.
>A large bladed ring, with a handle through the middle. You haven’t seen one before but you recall hearing they can be used for up close combat or for throwing.

Are you that one guy from general who had that FF surveying/adventure quest?
>>
>>2189837
No. I've been entertaining the idea of an ffxv quest for a bit, but haven't talked about it on the board.

Twin daggers, please.

>no gun

Experience shows that bullets chunk defence and spears wipe out mooks fast.

I'll back regular sword.

Fuck I knew I forgot something. Ah well, I was going to offer up a second choice soon enough, then I can remember those.

Until then, though, I do need a vote to break the tie. Sorry for disappearing, had some matters to attend to.
>>
>>2189961
Well if you want to offer the spear, I'd change to that. Maybe another anon would too.
>>
>>2189981
I definitely wouldn't reject writing in spears or guns, since I forgot about 'em.

After much back and forth within your head, you reach for the ring. The handle within is thin and easy to hold. Along the inside of the ring is dull so you may rest it on your forearm or shoulder should you so wish in a moment of downtime. Testing the weight of the weapon, you nod then let go of it, watching it disappear into blue light. As a test, you imagine yourself holding it and it reappears in your hands once more, seemingly from nowhere. Being a glaive certainly had its perks. You'd forgotten you could do this in all the downtime you had running for your life.

You approach Bruno, who's staying low and out of sight of the goblin that glances around every so often but mostly gazes the other way. There are others lazing around it, chattering in a garbled and unintelligible language. He could have easily destroyed the low tier Daemon, you assume, but there seems to be some things he wanted to teach you. He draws a shield from the air, almost the height of him with horns from the side. "I take their attention, you figure out how to use that thing if you don't already." He began approaching the Daemons with zero regard for his own safety, knowing they couldn't lay even a scratch on him. They snarled and danced around him, trying to attack but being met by a shield to the face every time.

You hold your weapon firmly, stepping a bit closer to the scene. You wonder briefly whether to try to throw it or if you should use it as a melee weapon?

>What do?
Attacks will be 1d100 bo3(or after 20 minutes or some such time limit) unless otherwise specified.

Well, it's obvious! A weapon that seems so suited for throwing should be thrown. You reel back and hurl the bladed ring, the edge spinning freely. It embeds into the chest of one of the goblins, the creature letting out a shriek before falling dead and disappearing into an inky black mist. Before it can clatter to the ground, your weapon returns to your hand and you hold it firmly. Interesting.

"Few more pointers," Bruno mentions, "You can heal your allies. It takes a little bit of focus and voila," A green light appeared in his offhand, lobbing it at you. The light disappears into you, leaving you feeling refreshed. "You can also heal yourself if you just pull the light back into you. Also, having part of the power of the King allows you to Point warp, giving you freedom to move around the battlefield. If you see an elevated position, you can warp to it to catch a break from fighting for a moment. " You nod and think he's just trying to get through all the information at once. Reminds you of those video games you used to play.

With a few more tosses of your weapon, the remaining goblins disappear into mist and you've come out without a scratch. With the Daemons gone you can see why they'd gathered. A dead Hunter lies on the ground. He clutches a locket and you can see to his side lays a...

At the dead Hunter's side lays a spear. You pick the weapon up and get a feel for its weight. It seems somehow stronger than the ones you had back at the truck, so you decide to keep it with you, letting it dissolve to later recall it. You then turn your attention to the locket. It's inlaid with a ruby and upon picking it up you feel a bit healthier. Although it may be handy later, you're not sure whether you should loot any more than the weapon from the man.

Bruno is already to work digging a grave for the man. You move to help and, after some time digging, both of you agree that the hole is suitable for as proper a burial as you can give. Before you begin refilling the grave, you ponder whether to keep the locket.

>Keep the locket
>Bury it with the Hunter
>>
>>2190442
>keep the locket
Give to family of the hunter if we can, otherwise, we then return to bury it with him.
>>
>>2190442
Keep it.

Anons, let's agree right now.
We don't try to waifu Cindy. We all know Prompto and Cindy was the best thing in 15.

You keep the locket in your pocket, fingertips gently brushing over it as you think of the Hunter. Perhaps he has family in one of the nearby outposts. Or maybe they died. Who knows? Only time will be able to tell. Bruno mimics your thoughts unknowingly, "Perhaps he has family we can return that bauble to. Once we return to Lestallum perhaps we will figure it out." You nod and help him fill the grave.

You and Bruno then return to the truck, climbing into the bed and sitting, rapping the top of the cab once more to tell the drivers to continue on towards the power station. The truck rumbles to life and you continue on.

"Nice fighting out there kid," Bruno grins but doesn't yet offer his hand, "But we both know that was nothing like a real engagement. I won't always be around to hold your hand. When that moment comes you have to be ready." He nodded and held his confident look, "I'd bet you will be."

You look off towards the horizon, the ever-dark sky looming above you. Your eyes slip shut, and you fall into a shallow sleep.

Calling the thread here, to celebrate new year and all that. Take it easy Anons. I'll let this sit for a day or two due to the unfortunate timing of new years then I'll resume. Thank you for playing! Hope you enjoyed it. Any criticisms, feel free to let me know. I wish to improve.

Thank you for running.
See you next year.
