Quest Intro

You are Mikage Chiba, second year high school student, fifteen years old. You used to be the third woman to carry the mantle of the magical guardian of love and justice known as Sailor Moon, after your mother and older sister. A year and a half ago you had a traumatic experience fighting the corpse of the father of your best friend, struggled victory leaving you thinking you had killed the
man you had set out to save and prompting you to abandon your heritage. More than that, the relating emotional collapse lead you to abandoning yourself. Developing disguises and personas to inhabit and do the things you could not in secret, to live while you let yourself wither, you carried on.

Now you know the truth and have been taking measures to put yourself back together, reconnect with old friends, and make new ones. More than that you’ve been doing your best to support your younger sister, Koyomi, as she has become the fourth to carry the title as Sailor New Moon.

Quest Start

“How rude,” the gray uniformed Kalunite clicks his tongue and lethargically raises a hand toward the helicopter above, “Don’t they know people are sleeping down here?”

You tense in worry with your arms protectively around the still unconscious civilian, your friend Hanako Minami whose recent transformation into a monster was moments ago resolved. You wade in water just below your knees in a public park in Tokyo’s Midtown. Sailor New Moon stands beside you, bracing for the worst as resolve crosses her face.

On the bank of the pond, a wave of this seemingly lackadaisy villain’s power has rendered a number of your allies unconscious. Only Sailor Mars, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Sol, and Zoisite Knight remain standing.

Brilliant energy begins coalescing in his outstretched and white gloved hand. There is a stillness in this moment, not drowning in a killing intent. Instead this undead creature is treating the human life he is about to take as an afterthought. As though it isn’t worth the effort he is so clearly about to take.

In the guise of Eclipse, you have seconds to react. Koyomi’s eyes widen and you know she is going to intervene as well...but you carry the burden of an innocent.

>Try to persuade Kalunite that those humans aren’t worth his time
>Intimidate Kalunite, goading him into focusing on you
>Koyomi has this, for the first exchange, you need to get Hanako to safety
>Try to tackle Kalunite into the water, you would drop Hanako

You know, to your own fear, how powerful Kalunite is now...but the fragile human life in your arms weighs more on your mind than your body. After what you witnessed you and your sister accomplish just the other day, you’ll instead choose to have faith.

-Stop his first attack,- you offer Sailor New Moon in full confidence at the speed of thought, -I’ll get Minami to safety and see to the others,-

She nods, and the two of you explode in motion and splashes.

While you rush through the water toward the shore, she leaps into close combat with Kalunite. The magic still suffused into her transformation and an unfurling of power from within her starseed, she intercedes.

>Sailor New Moon uses a liberally applied use of sudden block.

Behind you there is a flare of light, and the sound of a splashing impact as the chopper blades begin to recede. No doubt JSDF and PIT forces are going to come in by ground now instead of with the helicopters for recon. There’s no telling how much time you have.

“Is that all you’ve got?” cries out Koyomi, as you glance back over your shoulder.

Sailor New Moon stands on the far side of Kalunite now, her shoulder is smoking. Those on the shore have not been idle. Sailor Sol rushes past you, no volume of flight fatigue slowing her down as she charges to help Sailor New Moon. Sailor Mars, Sailor Mercury, and Zoisite Knight are trying to provide aid to those have been brought down.

If he hurt them…

“They’re asleep!” calls out Sailor Mercury as you join them on the bank, Zoisite Knight is trying to help up his sister and Sailor Venus while Mercury and Mars help your other knights.

“We’re pulling them away from the fight before we join Sol,” Mars explains as you move with them and bring Hanako with them just behind the tree line.

After resting your friend against one of the sturdier looking trees, you looking back toward the water. There you see the exchange of energies. Flame and Lunar light clashing with and sometimes washing off of Kalunite.

“Yes, show me the waning powers of your forgotten Millennium,” he boasts, lazily, as water begins rippling inward beneath him, “And beware as we make this shallow world remember our Elysion!”

Reaching into the folds of your regalia of Eclipse, you snatch up a handful of roses and quickly suffuse them with supernatural energy. Magic to turn them from normal roses into weapons, and with the task done you charge into the water and reel back the first weapon.

This magic. This rose. It is a power of the earth, magic of the earth and your connection to it. It and your words are a declaration as you let it fly into the fray at at your foe.

“Elysion IS remembered!” you cry out as the stem and flower twist and grow mid flight.

It strikes him unaware and aided by your own momentum, it unravels into thorns into one of his lazily hanging legs. He jerks in pain, and familiar recognition.

>You’ve dealt 39 points of damage. The breakdown is presently unknown to you.

Kalunite leers at you, angrily. His passive personality gives way to an aggression you did not expect. Sailor Sol strafes behind Sailor New Moon, with a gesture she wraps your sister in a thin barrier of radiant energy.

>Mage Armor cast

Your sister, still holding her tiara, infuses it again with shining power that begins to weigh upon the gem to ready for the next exchange.

Though, he no longer cares about Sailor Sol and Sailor New Moon.

“This power…” he grunts, “If it is remembered, as you say, then you are a traitor to it’s memory!”

With a forceful gesture toward you, his hand extends as a fist and then splays open. A powerful supernatural force is unleashed against you.

“So, traitor, I’ll leave you to watch,” he sneers as you feel that power hit you, a drowning lethargy and subsuming sloth, “As I destroy these fools,”

Inaction. Restlessness. Boredom.

Consuming and oppressive boredom.

So you can do nothing but watch…

no

No

NO

NO!

By sheer willpower alone, edged by the flaring sigil beneath your kefiah, you shatter this enchanting attack. More than that, you burn with anger toward retribution. You will not let him leave you helpless to watch as he fights your friends and your sister.

You won’t surprise him, at range, again anytime soon. However you will remain strafing and moving through the water toward him and the others. Hurling another rose from the bunch, it strikes into the outstretched hand that tried to break your all will to act.

The noise the thorns make as they tear into his glove and reveal flesh and purple stone crystal beneath his skin is somewhat satisfying.

>22 pts of damage done

“They are and will ever be the same earth,” you offer in shouting, “And to it my actions are not that of a traitor!”

“YEARGH!” he roars as there is a sudden blinding light.

“LUNAR LIGHT BEAM!” Koyomi cries out from behind him as two beams of magical light impact hard against this foe.

Sailor Sol holds her ground. You can read it on her face, after everything she threw at the dragon she’s running near to supernatural empty. Waiting for an opening for an all or nothing strike.

“Enough of this!” he cracks his hand, splinting digits and crystal and unleashing an oppressive and opaque fog across the water. Whatever this is, it may be a move of desperation.

>Cloudkill has been cast

It is powerful magic. On par with the penultimate heights you can presently unlock with the pure power of your starseed, that much is immediately evident to you as it sweeps over all four of you in the water. It burns your lungs and seers your skin in certain pain, but you can endure this. You can tough this out.

>You have accumulated 2 wounds

There are two grouped splashes nearby to you. Even through the haze of the fog you now only see the faintest remnant of Kalunite’s silhouette.

What?

The burning light of the radiant armor protecting your sister bobs low on the water’s surface. A limp weight bumps against your leg in the water.

The cloud persists, it’s likely to kill you should you not get out of range. You try to relay this over your mental connection to Koyomi and Keiko.

They aren’t there? Not even the shade left by being unconscious.

Oh no…

Through the cover of the sickly fog, Kalunite laughs.

No!

NO!

No one else was supposed to get hurt! No one was supposed to suffer like this.

No one was supposed to die. That’s why you came back. That’s why you’ve done all of this so far.

Koyomi. Keiko. No No No No.

NO!

You don’t accept that. That’s why you came back. When you’re around, and while you still draw breath, they will not suffer.

They will not die.

Digging into the core of your starseed, you let it shine and burn with energy as you tap into the earthbound divinity you possess. Overloading that power you let it radiate out from you, and your senses become momentarily aware of where their bodies float beneath the water. Still warm...but inert.

This will not do.

>Breath of Life cast as a spell like ability at a 9th level caster level. Senshi Augment spent and applied.

And you say unto death that it has no power here.

Beneath the lapping and turbulent shallow waters of this pond, you feel them spark again. Their minds become open to your awareness as uncertainty takes them.

-stay underwater,- you command over telepathic channels, -until you can get clear and away from this cloud-

You had to stay close though, you couldn’t well move out of range of this cloud to ensure their lives. So you again stand among the reeking and burning death of this cloud.

>you accumulate 1 more wound

However, it appears as blind as you are to Kalunite, he is blind to you.

His laugh has persisted this whole time.

“Well, it isn’t as satisfying as making you watch slack jawed as your allies die,” the crystalline undead exudes a raucous aura, unaware of the act of resuscitation you provided beneath the water’s uneven surface tension, and regains some of his casual bearings, “But you were still helpless to stop it, so I’ll call that a win,”

He hums to himself, coming closer to you in the water as Keiko and Koyomi swim away beneath the surface. Just trying to get clear while you keep this monster’s attention on you. On the bare threads of the connection, their worry and now certain memories of just what happened weigh at the back of their and now your minds.

In the cover of the mist, still floating, he tries to backhand you with his remaining hand. It instead slaps against your active force screen, harmlessly stopping this assault and revealing his time quite wasted.

“Ah, so you aren’t out of tricks,” he teases and you bristle with anger anew, “Just as well, we can draw out your death,”

So confident. So cold and uncaring for having just murdered. He is a zealot to his cause, and you will not suffer him to continue his unlife.

>Cast a spell or use a power
>Another Rose Lance
>Go into Melee, you need to be close when you finish this

Make sure stone arm is up, wrestle him down here in the water and mud while the cloud clears, and cleanse the hell out of him with Restoration.

Meanwhile hopefully the girls can get the cloud cleared, but at least d20 is generous on breath holding calculations.

If we get time and breath for it, suggest banter that he couldn't have been this unpleasant in life, he'd never have made it as far in the Royal Guard as he had.

While they swim away, you close in on him. The shadow of Kunzite appears behind Kalunite, a harrying force in the dark that distracts him just enough for your to have an edge as your hands reach up and land on either side of his face.

You burn more of the power in your starseed. Touching again on your power to heal. The consuming want in your heart is for it to use that burn to purify the evil before you. Return him to dust, perhaps redemption.

And you want him to know.

>Heal used as a spell like ability.

This close, through the fog, you see his face. See the shock. He feels what you’ve done, and knows what is coming as light fills his form from your hands. In his periphery, he sees Kunzite.

“You are not the first servant of Elysium to be corrupted by lies and tainted darkness." you offer with a voice still dripping with anger, bordering on barely restrained hate, "I only hope you too will find redemption."

In your gasp, he sinks in the air. Breaking the water until his knees hit the artificial floor beneath. From the water, he begins to fracture and crumble. He stares into your face with at least the barest hint of recognition as he see’s your eyes up close.

The same recognition you experienced with Hiddenite.

“Queen…” he rasps as the breakdown and splintering edges up his face, “Kalyke,”

Kalunite falls apart. Black and purple mist clearing into white powder. Almost the grain of salt. It slowly vanishes in the water amid the empty remains of his uniform. The killing fog still chokes at you, until a beating wind from above disperses it.

“No...but I know why you see a resemblance,” you offer the nothingness as you lift the sodden remains of his jacket.

Not far away in the water, you can see Sailor New Moon looking worried. Beside her is Sailor Sol looks not at you, but above in the sky.

The others watch from the shore line, magical attacks primed and charged. The sleepers, save for Hanako, have started rising. You can see Ito-san’s white mane blowing in the wind rippling the water around you, trying to shake the green haired girl awake by the tree line. When did she arrive.

Sailor Mars, Sailor Mercury, and Zoisite Knight aren’t quite looking at you, but the empty space above. For a moment you assumed the wind was from a helicopter, but there is no chopping noise or search light flooding where you are.

Koyomi...she still looks at you with worry. Worry punctuated by questions playing across her face about what just happened.

Does she know what happened? Does your sister know she just died.

Does she know you just pulled her back.

>Look up, what is everyone staring at

...Fuck, you have other things. I'm back tracking on a few things.

1. caught in the breath of life area he would have taken more damage
2. Cure critical wounds would have been enough to finish things and you used that instead.

Sorry for the confusion. Its been multiple threads, I hope that clears things up.
>>
There is nothing else that matters right now. Task Force and police have probably cordoned off the area, but that isn’t anywhere near your thoughts. Only one thing falls into focus, breaks your anger, and you run through the water toward it.

Each step, against the resistance and pull of the water, draws you in jostled view closer to your younger sister. You drop Kalunite’s jacket as you reach forward, grasping in near desperation as you pull her into you.

Even as Sailor New Moon, Koyomi is slight compared to you. She is tall but not quite as tall as you, but thin from recent growth spurts; and falls into you easily.

Your arms tighten around her. Afraid that if you let go she’ll be gone again. Within your imagination, her eyes are still and dead. For a moment you are happy that you did not dive beneath the water and see those eyes.

“Mikage-ne?” she asks of you, near to breathless as she goes rigid at first.

With a start, her arms lance out beneath your own and hug you tightly as well. And you hold it.

A voice breaches this moment.

A voice beside you.

“Uh...guys,” Sailor Sol offers and gestures to the sky.

Still holding your sister, you turn wide and look up to the sky. There you see a woman not too far above you. Clad in little but a pink skirt over a metal blue bikini, golden bracers, and decorations in flowing blue hair she floats on beating wings of stained glass. A butterfly above you and against the moon.

She looks as she is to speak, but the passing searchlight of a helicopter pulls her attention and she begins to fly off into the sky with certain speed. Whatever she is, she is alive.

Alive, alive like the sister who you hold tightly.

Gotta admit, kinda hoped he'd get a partial heal and return to his group harboring doubts. Under the assumption that last bit of vindictive evil was his shadow taint at work rather than his natural state, I rather liked the guy.

“Come on, we need to get out of here,” you tell Koyomi and Keiko and start toward the shore.

Kalunite’s empty uniform has already washed up on the shore, you snatch it up as you pass it by.

“Everyone we need to get out of here,” you offer in a commanding voice as everyone is back on their shaky feet as the helicopters swarm and the distant sirens begin to close.

No one questions it, and the more garishly dressed of you start to vanish into the woods. You aren’t going to ground just yet, you’ll leave the uniform to be reviewed and checked out first by Tomoe-sensei before it’s brought anywhere sensitive. For now you’re just going to get to a rooftop a few blocks away.

And so a cadre of you take off into the night, leaping to convenient points to get to the rooftops and begin your movement away from Tokyo Midtown. Sailor Senshi, Masked Knights, and a white haired ex street punk. Soon, your somewhat fatigued group comes to a stop.

“I thought we were fighting a dragon,” groans Sailor Jupiter, “What the hell was that?”

“One of the bad guys, finally,” Sailor Mars explains with a firm nod...though a certain shaken quality to her voice as she glances over toward Moon and Sol with visible worry.

Mercury, now that you’re all done running, is standing close to Mars. She is poignantly looking away from those two and seems to be shaking slightly.

You can guess why. Clearly remembering the revelation the girls gave you. In those brief moments, could they both see their unchained souls slipping away. It knots your stomach with worry, this is the kind of thing you never wanted them exposed to. Your grip on the military fabric tightens.

Moon isn’t saying anything. You can’t imagine what she and Sol are feeling right now.

“Yeah, what the hell happened to the dragon anyway?” asks Hisako Ito as she shifts the still groggy Hanako Minami off of her shoulders.

Wait, what? You’ve been roof hopping for at least ten minutes back toward Minato ward. Everyone else turns to the girl, noticing that she was following the lot of you for the first time.

She stares at all of you, taking in your confusion, and shrugs.

Indeed.

He hit brutally hard and we hit back just as suddenly hard. Fortunate that we're on a Path to save people from death or the toll would have been much higher.

I'll admit, I am hoping a stone for him will turn up. Had hoped to play at redeeming him before.

>>1002978
He has set an interesting bar for the others. If the subtle guy can just appear and damn near murder the whole team, we need to be careful about the others.

On the flip side of that, their powerful mage was lost almost as quickly as he nearly wiped us out, with a cloud in the way of observers (both the dragons giant steam cloud and the cloudkill). A careful observer with a good view might know that a dragon turned to fire, then faded, then a guy showed up and made more cloud, and then a mystery winged person showed up and cleared the clouds and the guy was gone but left his clothes, then everyone left.
Which is to say, both sides are likely to act more cautiously in future encounters, with a possible edge of nervousness and seeking greater power from the enemy since they may not know how much of a match for the group he was nor how he was defeated.

Plus a new player that they might blame.

Chaos and bedlam.

At least the original senshi handled dying pretty well. Hoping Koyomi passes this well on that the powerful healing energies kept the shadow from taking advantage.

Fun timing. Big chaotic intersection of happenings and peoples.
Will be interesting to see where things head next, we're starting to fill up our journal again.
Shadowy girls to locate.
Mystery butterfly to track down.
Wolf to vet.
Covers to keep.
Strangeness with sis.
Family stuck with hidden enemies in space.
Ellis infiltrators in PIT
Sasha's ghost sis wants to talk.
Boyfriend.
The fate of all life on Earth.
And some other stuff that didn't immediately jump to mind.

Thanks for running boss

So, I'm getting a general tone that you'd like to become better friends with the Winter Wolf?

Absolutely. I liked her from the start and every time she shows up just cements that. The fact she kept up with a person on her back while roof hopping is insane.

Glad to see that plot thread get picked up.

I was curious about her before, but after this update? Absolutely.

Letting her handle the apartment and Malefic lead was a bit of a test, and hopefully one that would keep her out of direct conflict, then she goes for extra credit!

Next question will be to see how she reacts to the news of what happened to her friend and related information before we take her further down the rabbit hole.

Indeed.

For the sake of peeking behind my QM screen, pending things said to her or what she wound up doing, she had the chance of bursting in on either the dragon fight, the dragon talk, or the kalunite fight with the fist of an angry punk.

And angry punk who knows martial arts to the degree of being a martial adept.

Either punching the pure dragon in the face, gawking at evil sorceress mode Hanako, or seeing unconscious Hanako in someone's arms and seeing Kal being blatantly evil so punching him in the face...and possibly getting caught in the Cloudkill...

but I digress. You chose the options that kept her from joining the fray until the end, and the fray ended quickly enough that Papillon only showed up to disperse the cloud.
