As a young boy you were always had a way with plants, whether it was raising them or identifying you quickly became the person to go to when it came to plants.

But now the world is in turmoil with strange creatures crawling out of pits of pollution to political tensions between everyone. Maybe this was coincidence, or maybe God had enough of this shit...

The first time you have ever used your ability was about a month ago when you managed to revitalize your mothers rose bush that she had for six years. Since then you have been lazing about at home due to it being July but maybe its time to change that.

But first your name.

Well what better place to mess with plants that in a garden?

Now that you think of it you made this garden with your mother a few years ago. Over the years you have made a bit of pocket change selling produce but maybe with a little bit of tweaking our can make some real cash.
As you walk through the grass you notice that it points to you, as if it is trying to reach you.
At the garden you have a few choices of what you want to try and command.
> pecan tree - its out of season so the nuts are in high demand
> tomato - most are the right size but need a little push and you will be loaded with them
> the creeping vine to the tree - no produce but maybe you can find a difference use with your powers...

While you want to practice you don't want to fuck up the plants so you decide on the pecan tree.
Its older that you and stands about 20 feet, luckily this year is a bounty year and there are green pods covering the tree.
You focus on them trying to move the nutrients from the outer shell to the inner shell and the nut in there.
You can feel... something, a connection possibly?

"Ok lets see if this works" you mutter to the tree.

As you focus on the tree you feel it bend in a way, but outside it seems fine. You continue this further on the pods and as you clench your teeth you see the pods shrivel and darken. Finally the first one pops out and as it does many others do too.
Its not a ton but you manage to fill a 5 gallon bucket.

As you walk back to the ranch style house you call your home you here your mom who true to her nature is in an apron, seems she really accepted the caring mother role well.

"Oh Lance, there you are I was just-" she begins but sees the pecans "How did you get pecans? they shouldn't be ripe for two more months or so."

You decide to help your mother with supper like a good son and say hello to your dad when he walks home from work. With that behind you decide to turn in for the day.

New day new stuff. As per your mothers suggestion earlier in the summer you vowed to actually exercise a bit. You figure a run around town would be good for for you as while you are not fat, you don't really have much in the muscle department either. There are a few places you may want to visit on your run though.

You decide to take a stroll through the park, and take in the sights. As you walk through the park you take note of the plants that surround you. Oaks, maples, and elms are heavily represented when you look up. Large vines that go up to one inch thick cling to trees and by your feet are dandelions and spirea of all kinds. While you walk you hear crying near you. As you walk over it appears a little girl is crying near a tree.

"Whats wrong?" you ask the sniffling girl.
"M-my cat is stuck in that tree." she says as she points up the tree
Huh seems the cat is about 30 feet up the tree.

You decide to go to this little grotto you found on your property years ago. You like it a lot since it's always quiet and plants flourish there. It's your own slice of paradise and.

Wait, you hear sounds in the distance headed towards you. It's not uncommon for deer to walk in but some people do hunt here.

If we can, hide inside one of the trees. Otherwise, find the darkest place to view from.

While this is your land you are kinda curious who or what is coming. Just in case its a person you decide to hide, because if there is a person out there you want to know what their doing without them knowing you are there.
Luckily for you you know the landscape well and now with your powers the possibilities are endless.
You could try hiding normally, but that's a bit boring. The trees here are to tall to clime in time, but maybe you can change that.
Alternatively the grass is trying to reach you again, maybe you should go with the grass as it seems to have a plan... if plants CAN have plans.

Well whats life without a few risks?
You decide to let the grass do as it pleases, and it seems to act with the enthusiasm of a kid at an amusement park.
The grass starts to envelop you within it, forming a pod that actually looks pretty natural.
As the pod closes you realize that you can see out it fine, and that it is rather soothing in here.
Man you would fall asleep if you were not waiting.
As you wait you see a deer burst from the tree line with an arrow in its leg.
You were about to go help it when another figure comes out.
Its a girl for sure but now that she is her she seems to be looking around for something...

New Ability: Grass pod unlocked! - for now it provides a hiding/sleeping spot but maybe with some work it can do some other things

You wait in silence as the figure approaches the pod. As they get closer you see its actually a girl, and she appears to be armed with a bow.
That would explain the deer and how she managed to find this place. As the light that filters into the grotto hits her you notice a few things of interest.
One is that her hair is forest green which itself is odd and its held in pigtails, which she oddly pulls off well. Her dress looks like it belongs in the middle ages, but you were never one for fashion.
And you see that she is short, maybe 5'5 give or take a few.
All in all she is cute that's for sure.
Oh she is getting closer, she has to see you no WAY she doesn't.
With that she rests her head against the tree next to you, somehow she didn't notice but she seem tired and a bit lost.
Maybe you should say something, or you could wait till she falls asleep and make an escape.

You slip out of the grass pod as silently as you can, luckily she doesn't seem to notice the sound.
As you step back you see the grass wilt and return to its original state.
Huh seems like when you form the plants into an unnatural form they turn back when you are done, nice to know but maybe something permanent can be created...
Whatever as you approach you purposely step on a twig, quickly alerting her of your presence.

"Who are you?" She is not aiming at you but she is ready to.

"Well I'm.." You start

"How did you get here?" She cuts you off.

"Well I-"

"How long have you been here?" Man she is unrelenting with the questions.

"Ok my name is Lance," You continue trying to answer her questions, "I own this plot of land and I just got here."
Well you lied about the last part but she believes you.

"So whats your name?" You ask trying to turn this questioning back on her.

"...Flidais" She says though a bit apprehensive "Hey I'm a bit lost can you help?"

I guess I'll explain a few things while we wait for a tie-breaker.
For one when it comes to plants we can only move/influence plants that are here but eventually we will be able to "summon" plants
also for manipulation the stiffer the plant the harder it is to move, for example vines and grass move well, but trees are harder to influence
The benefit to trees and harder plants is that later it will be harder for enemies to affect

You decide to check the news feed of a few credible sources.
The local news is pretty dull due to it being a small rural town but there are a few things that catch your attention.
First there has been alleged sightings of a grey bear, the witness was a young hunter that said he saw it in the fog, though some are disbelieving.
Second police are urging people to stay away from alleys at night because there have been a few muggings, which surprises you since your town was pretty much crime free.
Third high winds have recently been reported in the area with winds that compare to tornaddos somehow though no one knows why they come and go...
Fourth an article came up saying there is a new park ranger in town, huh, whoever could that be

Nationally things are a bit more interesting....
Evidently Mexico has agreed to pay for the Great Wall of America, though this is causing riots throughout Mexico and even some southern state.
According to a leak by a high ranking employee, there are apparently "monsters" popping up around some of the federally declared chemical dump zone though he has no evidence to support this.
While you search hard there doesn't seem to any people declaring to be superheroes, though you manage to set a program to notify you if anything comes up

You decide to work with the vines and brambles to see if you can make something to fight with, after all heros and shit.
With the energy around you you grasp a solid vine and contort it to your will, trying to make something out of it...

roll a d100 for stealth and a d100 + 10 for the energy

note a 90 + 10 is not as good as a nat 100

As you pump energy into the vines they start to envelop you.

At first all is fine until a sharp pain sears into your back. As you cry out in pain the tentacle-like vines rip you shirt to pieces as they fling every direction.

The roots dig into your muscles and blood oozes from the entry point. As you feel your conciseness fading it stops.

Everything is quiet and the only sound comes from your ragged breath.

As you stand you notice all the vines are gone but the presences is still there.
You check the water and the only thing showing from your ordeal is some dried blood and some new scar tissue.

You still feel the vines and summon them forth. They sprout from your back awaiting your call.

You decide to test a few things, you notice that the vines and form thorns at will and can easily support your weight.

Then you throw a punch and to your surprise the vines follow, shooting out ten feet and piercing a rock wall.

You try using is as a whip and while it has more range it will take some getting used to and seems better against unprotected enemies as you shear the bark off nearby trees.

As you look up you think back to the day you saved that cat and your vines burst out, wrapping around a branch and pulling you to it.

This is pretty fucking awesome.

New ability: Vine gear - this is a permanent upgrade that lets you summon vines from your back with many uses, the vine also seem to care for your wellbeing and seems to have some intelligence (Think the cape from Dr. Strange)

"Well THAT was an ordeal" you think as you heal the nearby plants from the damage you inflicted.

As you look around you notice there are scores in the ground and a hole that looks like a cannon blast in the rock wall from your little vine freak out.

Now as darkness falls you think to yourself "Now what?"
You have superpowers, a way to fight, and crime is rising...

Alternatively maybe its time to find your own place

A huge undertaking but you are confident in your abilities.
Maybe if you pull this off you won't have to worry about finding a place to live!

And it could be a secret hideout/lair thing.

Anyway you can worry about that later but for now...

You feel the power of the forest flow through you in this moment you have become one with the planes.

The vines burst out again from your back and root you into place as if to keep the power from overwhelming you.

"Forest heed my call, form this land into a place that shall become the heart of plants" you yell as more power flowers nearby plants.

You can see the plants move the earth with their roots and rejuvenate the areas you pierced before.

With a final push you shove most of the remaining energy into a single oak sapling.

The sapling quickly shudders as it starts growing into impossible sizes, such majesty as is accepts the energy and pulses in its heartwood.

The tree towers over all others and dominates the grotto.

As you feel inside the tree is making spaces inside, rooms almost and seems as if it is welcoming you in as a small door of thick bark opens.

"Well, that works I guess" you say as you stand in awe of the oak

"Eh the door is open and mother always said to not say no to hospitality." With that you enter the tree, base, lair thing...

As you walk up the grown steps that spiral up the tree you notice that bio-luminescent plants light the way along with small hole in the trunk.

"Coool" you can't help but be impressed with the room you walk into. With nice lighting and good space you might as well live here.

And there appears to be a hatch that leads outside on the ceiling so you can probably just grapple branches next time you want in.

As you admire the space you here the door open and slam shut.

"Uh oh," you know there is no easy way to explain this.

"Um OK let me just get around here," Flidais says as she walks around you, avoiding the now limp vines.

"SHIT" She screams as a nearby vine twitches and rubs against her leg. "OK OK no problem." She says as she gingerly grasps the foreign plant.

"So um how did all this happen?" She approaches you and leans close in to inspect the wound. She smalls like a forest, it's nice.
You look away as she gets even closer though now she is frowning once she realizes you are not talking.

She grabs the arrow, "This is going to hurt ok?" Nope nothing from you.

"ARG" you yell as she pulls the arrow clean out.

"Good thing I carry bandages huh?" She murmurers as she binds the wound.

"Hey if you tell me about this, I'll explain something about me." She is offering a trade of sorts "You may find we are a bit in common."

Hmmm that doesn't sound too bad but your not sure if you should, although leaving is not that much of an option as she is straddling you when she was healing you.

"Well I honestly I think it way be best to show you." Flidais says as she gives you a smile and grabs your hand lending you outside.

"Actually part of the reason I came here was because of the grey bear people were talking about, you see there are other thinks like us that have been imbued with magic or been corrupted by other means and they are dangerous for normal people."

"Well, watch this," With that she takes aim at the rock wall and fires

When the arrow is loosed you feel a gale from behind you and see the arrow pushed to massive speeds.

"While I mainly use the wind to help my arrows I do have a few more tricks up my sleeve" Flidais turns around and smiles at you, waiting for your explanation.

"I basically control plants, that's how this," you point to the great oak, "happened. The vines were a bit more extreme and are buried in my back, but I do control them and that's how I guess I fight." Simple explanation but she likes it.

"So now that we know about each other now what?" Flidais asks with a slightly concerned look. You realize now how terrifying you may have appeared being a head taller and with thick vines snaking out from under your shirt.

"Sure but what about now?" She tilts her head ever so slightly.

"Want to help me move in?" You could use the extra help

"Sure might as well help a fellow superhero." You both laugh as she nudges you with her elbow.

You both walk into your parents house just generally enjoying each other's company when you here a gasp behind you.

"Lance! Who is this young lady?" Oh no your mom is home...

"My, my and such a pretty thing too!" Your mom is gushing over Flidais. She is blushing from the attention but doesn't say anything to deny anything.

"Uh mom" You try to explain but she is a bit excited since it HAS been awhile since you have had a girlfriend.

"Oh I'm sorry I didn't get your name" Your mom stop for a second.

"It's Flidais, nice to meet you!" Well she seems to adapt quickly.

"Oh you MUST stay for dinner, its almost done!" Your mom quickly turns to do back to the kitchen leaving you two alone.

"Oh I have native america in me but the only thing that stayed was the name." You give a light chuckle, "What about you, Flidais?"

"That's my irish roots, its the celtic goddess of the hunt." Huh fitting.

"Dinners ready!" That's your mom.

You walk in and your mom made her homemade pineapple pizza, it's to die for.

"Ew pineapple," Flidais gives you a look.

"Don't knock it till you try it," you shoot back

She tentatively bites into the pizza and finds herself enjoying it. You joke around with her and your parents and before you know it supper is done.

"Well time to get to work," you stand up dusting yourself off as Flidais follow you to your room

*two hours later*

Ah fuck it your too tired to care right now and now that you think of it she's warm and -NO
bad thoughts.
You hear Flidais' light breathing, is sounds closer but with no lights you can't tell.
As you fall deeper into sleep you feel the vines start to relax and droop lazily from your back, you don't want to but you talk your shirt off since the vines are bundling and need space to lay out.

With that you fall into a deep sleep helped by the Grand Oak's rhythmic pulsing of energy

You wake up became the sun is shining right in your face, maybe curtains for later, but for now you feel warm. Its almost hot, you were going to stay a little longer but a quiet murmuring snaps you to attention.

Oh yeah, you and Flidais slept in the same bed. You try to pull yourself away only to find that the vines have betrayed you and have lightly pulled both of you together, cheeky bastards.

You try as carefully as you can pull the vines back Flidais makes a little squeak sound. Part of you wants to hear it again but a bigger part as seen enough anime to know where this is going.

Instead you retreat back and make breakfast, its more collected plant bits but beggars can't be choosers.

Flidais walks in groggy with a small smile, you both know you slept in the same bed but decide to ignore it.

"So ready to hunt that bear?" Flidais looks to you with enthusiasm.

You and Flidais run through the forest hoping to catch the bear in time.

As you come to the location the smell of decay and rotting flesh hits you like a ton of bricks

"Aw what the fuck is that smell?" You say as you cover your nose.

You here a twig snap and turn around and you see what SHOULD be the grey bear

Instead whats in front of your is a bear with pieces falling off and gray fur due to dried mud caked in its pelt.

Flidais strings an arrow as the bear slowly circles you, giving you a clear view that there are some very important organs missing.

Your vines slowly creep out to not startle the undead monstrosity and to strike out at a moments notice.

You have to kill this.. thing before it ever leaves the forest

You focus on the grass beneath your feet and direct it towards the bear

As is runs at you the grass snares the bears back paws holding in in place.

This gives Flidais the perfect shot and using the power of the winds sends an arrow straight through the front of the bears head.

As it slumps over you slowly release the grass in case it is not truly dead but as you approach it you find that it is gone for good

"Whoa that was intense," you mutter as you look over the carcass, which smells better now than it did before somehow.

"Yeah but where did it come from?" Flidais questions out loud

"I don't know." You give a simple reply

Now that you look at it the now dead bear seems to be emitting a strange type of energy, not like yours but you feel you can make it yours...

On the other hand it seems to stick to the pelt and skull of the bear and maybe you can work with that.

You think about how close that bear was to having your leg and the forest responds to your need.

As the soul is used giant leaves enclose you, hiding you from sight as the various plants take their turn adding and reinforcing your armor

The leaves come first, layering over you in a way that keeps movement free.

Then the vines and brambles slither over your body, focusing on your joint areas.

Finally the trees add the bulk of the armor, infused with magic they hide your visage to the rest of the world.

Waaaaay more important than beating down a few hoodlums.

Go home to practice grass magic and sleep with Flidais again.

Or this
>>992633
>>
"So where do you think the bear came from?" You ask Flidais as she comes out of shock from the sight of the armor

"Well it WAS magical so I think someone summoned it, so I think we should check out areas it may have come from." Flidais says as she looks to you.

As you skin the bear to make a sweet rug you notice a few weird symbols on the bones, obviously someone else can use magic too.
When you look at the fur you see spots of black dust and little berries that you realize belong to the Common Dogwood, which does not naturally grow here.

With these new clues a few new areas of possibility have opened up

>old coal mine - fits the dust
>cemetery - obvious choice for necromancer
>flower shop - they would sell Common Dogwood

"These stains on the pelt looks like coal dust, I think we should check that place first." You tell Flidais as she restrings her bow.

"Yeah sounds good, the sooner we get there the better." Flidais says as you lead the way.

The mine used to be a coal mine that ran under most of the town and provided the backbone of the town's economy back in the old days, now its just a place that kids go to to drink and smoke though it seems to be empty now.

You and Flidais approach the old mine cautiously since you don't know what could be lurking nearby.

Flidais puts her hand on your shoulder to stop you, "Do you feel that?"

Now that she says it you do feel more of the energy coming from down the mine, though it feels more spread out.

While you know something is lurking in there you are not sure if it is the best idea to fight underground, though if you are careful you may be able ambush it...

> Use the roots of all the nearby trees to scan underground, searching for the vibrations caused by motion.
Also take this opportunity to try and learn as much of the mine's layout as is possible before the roots reach bedrock.
> See if we can share our senses with Flidais?
It would be awesome if we could. The ability to share knowledge makes fighting together that much easier.
> Tell her to keep an arrow strung, and have a vine whip ready, just in case something decides to attack.
Can't be too careful. And, will our powers work underground? There's not a whole lot of loamy soil, and there's no sunlight. Maybe a bit of water. It'll be difficult to summon any plants; there's the possibility of reviving the wood in support beams, but fucking with those is just begging for a cave-in.

Using nearby vines you start to feel the outer ridges of the mine shaft.

As the vines descend at an angle they eventually come across what a section where the mine significantly widens, you try to push further but another force seems to be pushing back.

"Seems like they are ready for us," you mention to Flidais.

"Well you can't get the drop on them every time." She mentions back as she starts towards the mine shaft.

As you walk to the shaft you decide that

>You go first - you can take more damage
>She goes first - her magic sense is much better
>>
>>1009385
If it is a coal mine, can't we just shove a burning tree down the shaft?
>>
>>1009393
NO. hat might start a chain reaction that makes the entire region unstable and unfit for in-habitation for years.
>>
>>1009385
> You go first; your armor can take more damage.
> Slightly modify your armor to include large thorns on the limbs, shoulders, and knuckles.
Just because it would make whatever is down there think twice about trying to get in our face.

>>1009393
We have plant powers. Plants don't like fire. And then we'd have to deal with whatever is down there, while it is pissed off and on fire.

"Let me take the lead, I can take a punch to the face better." With that you descend into the mine with Flidais on your heels.

As you close in your target you see why the vines stopped, at the end of the tunnel a line of symbols line the mouth where is opens up into an area recently dug up in many places, with the support looking iffy at best.

"What the fuck is this," Flidais says as she look around the room

"I'm glad you asked" At the end of the arena a hooded figure looms over a crudely made alter that has some questionable stains on it.

"As you can see-" *WHUP* "ARRG YOU BITCH" The figure yells as Flidais pulls back another arrow

"That's it, no Mr. Nice Guy, GET THEM CRAW!" The man walks back and as you start to give chase a rumbling beneath your feet gives way to a giant claw.

You move back as a giant crab lifts itself out of the dirt, with rocks and pieces of chitin slipping out its shell it lumbers towards you and Flidais

"So that's CRAW." Flidais mumbles as you both get ready to fight

You
>Vines - whip, try to shatter some of the shell
>Vines - pierce, stabby stabby
>fists - grapple its claw with your tree enhanced body
>other
(note plants can't be summoned here)

Flidais
>wind arrow - joints, take it down
>wind arrow - body, maybe get past the shell
>gust - use the wind to push against CRAW
>air hop - a gust under you can get a better vantage point

If we deny it the ability to move, we can focus on its master. Even if the MC has to stay focused on the crab, Flidais can move on to eliminating the cultist fucker.

> Go for the giant crabs eyes.
Blind the son of a bitch. I would show a bit of sympathy, but this thing has probably been feeding on the corpses left over from human sacrifice.
