Seasons' greetings victims and victors! Its your old pal Santa-Slashy here to blighten-up your holidays! Ahhhh Christmas! That magical time of year where light and warmth are shared and celebrated in the darkest and coldest season...where we cuddle up with our blankets and hot coco and try to forget about the cold darkness turning the rest of the world into frosted wastelands...but light up a Christmas tree and bake some gingerbread men, surely what's ever out there in the dark and cold can't get in here...can it? Eh he eh eh eh..."

"That's what the cast of tonight's film thought. Merry Christmas one an all, I bring you that 80's cult classic Cabin of Carnage! It's a heart-eatingly classic setup. A group of friends alone in a cabin. But suddenly they find that they're not as alone as they thought. Because there's one part of the holiday's you can't keep out no matter how firmly you lock and doors and secure the windows. And he sees if you are sleeping. He knows if you're awake. He knows if you've been bad or good...so be good for murder's sake! Eh he eh eh eh....ROLL IT!"

Tonight's Quest involves 1 Killer and 4 survivors.

Our first survivor comes from the Fighter class. All fighters have the READY TO RUMBLE ability which allows them to fight back at +1 anytime representing either the ability to fight effectively with hands and feet or a handy pocket knife. This is the weakest class ability, because any survivor can fight back at +1 if they find any sort of weapon to use, but fighters make up for it by having overall better stats.

To create the Survivor's team fighter, select a QM or Quest character to serve as the personality and then select a sub-class.

JOCK
+Fastest survivor
+Can use his QB SACK ability to immobilize and stun a slasher at the cost of making himself vulnerable.
+Can us his QB BLOCK ability to absorb damage directed toward an ally, but only once per encounter.

SURVIVOR
+Multi-class. Can use the Trap Maker class's ability to create and disarm traps.
+His traps are very, very good. Slashers that stumble into them must roll cunning twice and auto-fail if they have a negative cunning score
+Highest health of any survivor
+Can survive a lethal attack once per game with his No Easy Prey ability

MARTIAL ARTIST
+His Hit where it Hurts ability disables one special ability a slasher has for the duration of an encounter. it can also be used to disarm a slasher
+His Knows how to Fight ability allows him to Fight Back twice per round.

I'm putting him in as an Innocent-in other words an NPC-non-powered character. Santa needs a kid to interact with.

Casey Jones and Native guy are totally possible to create as Survivors though.

Martial Artist seems like the best, and coolest, way to go in general. But if the setting is a cabin in the woods, would a survivor be more useful? Especially if we are staying and defending a single area?

What do you guys think?
>>
>>969350
Jamaica, it's a very Rasta Christmas.

> select a QM or Quest character then a subclass
You mean some existing character from another quest but change their abilities to be one of the three you posted?
>>
>>969403
Yeah. The QM/Quest character just informs their personality. Like Lynn from Camp Red Water was informed by Linn from Hero Guardian Quest but wasn't an actual awoo girl with a sword.

>Jamaica

MARTIAL ARTIST CONFIRMED?
>>
>>969541
While we're waiting on that confirmation we also need a TRAP MAKER.

All trap makers come with the Inventive ability which allows them to disarm and build traps.

SURVIVOR
+ Same abilities as listed under the Fighter class.

NERD
+All Cunning rolls by a slasher fail in an encounter involving them thanks to their Big Brain ability.
-Are extremely shrimpy in terms of stats.

GREASE MONKEY
+Can use Shopclass Expert ability to upgrade weapons for themselves and other survivors if they find tools.
+Can create powerful jury-rig traps that require something mechanical or electronic-such as a car or a stove or an electric motor.
+Can quickly repair broken objects such as cars and generators
>>
>>969938
If the trap maker can make explosive traps and disarm traps with explosions I want HARRY from cabin in the woods quest.
>>
>>969945
Grease Monkey can do that.

Our third survivor will be a DETECTOR.

All detectors come with the Scout ability which allows them to know if a slasher is in a space adjacent to theirs. It also lets them know if any handy items are in their space or not, or any secret passages.

WORRY WART
+Their Paranoia ability prevents slashers from stalking through their spaces unnoticed.
-Lowest Nerve score of any class.
+Their Screamer ability alerts all slashers and survivors to their location when startled

DEAD FUCK
+Can absorb damage from the opposite sex with Love is a Lie ability.
+Receives +1 to his passive rating when in a group with a member of the opposite sex.
+Knows the location and status of any survivor of the opposite sex on the map.

CREEPY KOOKY
+Multi-classes as a member of the Supporter class and has their class ability Light in the Darkness which lets them heal 1 Nerve damage per turn to all allies in their group.
+Is immune to all nerve damage with his Horror Fan ability. He will never panic or become frightened.
>>
>>969975
Our fourth and final survivor will come from the SUPPORTER class.

All Supporters have the Light in the Darkness ability which lets the heal 1 Nerve damage per turn to all allies in their group.

CREEPY KOOKY
+As listed under the Detector class

SERIOUS SAM
+His Leader ability is very powerful, but very risky. While he is alive he and his group have rerolls equal to the size of the group. But if he is killed then everyone in the group suffers crippling demoralization-and the Slashers receive rerolls equal to the size of the group for the encounter.

PARTY BRO
+His Best Bro ability allows him to transfer damage from other survivors in his group to himself without limits, even to the point of death.
+Has high Health.

"...and a happy New Year!" The radio crackled before launching into a spirited mambo as Lily looked out the window at the warm, star filled night and cool waves lapping against the beach.

The Party Girl tapped her fingers against the window sill. She was restless. And bored. And horny. This Christmas get-together at her family's island cabin was supposed to be wayyyy more fun than this. Ostensibly it was supposed to be a chance to get herself and her college chums away from it all. It was supposed to be a chance for her friend Alice to work on her fantasy novels and Herby to practice his karate or whatever it was he did and for Harvey to get away from his parents. Ostensibly this was the purpose for the party.

The real reason was to try to finally get in some fun after the disaster that was final exams. Lily wanted to try and finally get in Harvey's pants. She hoped that the beautiful surroundings and mini-fridge full of booze and her in her best bikini would finally get him to come on to her, and then maybe she would get Alice laid with Herby as a victory lap, but so far all Harvey seemed interested in was his stupid speed boat.

She's worn nothing more then tight denim shorts, a bikini top, and a smile and yet she was losing him to a boat.

This Christmas season fucking sucked.

"Hey Lily!" Alice taps Lily on the shoulder.

Alice. One wouldn't think that someone that took a semester of electives that included Serial Murderers, Roman Witchcraft, and poisonous insects would be so sunny. One wouldn't think that a girl whose wardrobe consists of black and skulls would be so perky. But here's Alice...

"What is it?" Lily answers grumpily.

"Ah, no luck with Harv?"

"No."

"Buck up. He'll come around. You just need to...you know, walk him to it. Men are kind of dense like that."

"But I don't want to have to walk him through it. I want him to ask me."

"Well you're running out of time honey. You ain't gonna bed him by Chritmas if you don't make a move."

"But I have! Several in fact. I talk him just...like this...like how I know he likes..." Lilly says exaggerating her Jamaican accent. "And I wiggle my hips just like this...but no go. The only way I'm getting that boy is if I somehow grow an electric motor..."

"Or if you ask him."

"That's the last thing I want to do. I want him to WANT me. I don't want him to feel...obligated to, like I'm some sort of pity fuck."

"No no no. You have to trust me girl. He wants you. I've seen how he looks at you. Those eyes don't lie. He just...gets carried away, gets caught up in his hobby. Herby's the same way. You just got to risk asking sometimes."

"Have YOU asked Herby?"

"Oh no." Her pale lily white cheeks flush. "I'm not going to get far writing the Cat and the Vampire if I start goofing off. It's how you sold me on this trip remember? Its a chance to get away from it all and buckle down on my writing."

"It's Christmas stupid." Lily playfully swats Alice's shoulder. "We're supposed to be having fun
>>
>>970943
"Well fun for me is getting the Cat and the Vampire ready for the publisher on time."

"That's the one about the exploding boy right?"

"Oh its about a lot of things. For instance-hey hold on, turn that radio up!"

Lily's fingers turn the dials. "Why bother? Is just news."

"...A police boat transport carrying a criminal bound to the St. Francis home of the mentally unwell has been reported sunk after running aground off a coral reef..."

"You hear that?" Alice asks excitedly.

"Yeah. What of it. It's just news."

"But its good news! Or well-you know what I mean. Stuff I could use for my writings..."

"There have been no reported fatalities, but a few of the passengers are missing. A search is underway but the police fear they have drowned..."

"How are you going to use this in your writings...wait, don't tell me. It's Christmas and I don't want to be in a worse mood than I already am."

"Go on and ask him! Stick some mistletoe above your heads or something. Or hell, just walk up to him and kiss him!"

"Hmph! I wrap myself nice and sexy for him. If he doesn't have the sense to unwrap his presents that's his problem."

SLASHER TEAM EYES ONLY:
Saturn does have a sense of theatricality. It was not enough to free you from your imprisonment. He had to free you at sea, amid blazing fire and turbulent waters, amid shouting policemen and cracking revolvers and splashing waves.

You had to work for your freedom, clinging to the life preserver and beating yourself against the water again and again and again and again and again until finally there was only you and Poseidon's world. For awhile, alone in the endless blue, you thought perhaps you misjudged the will of the gods. Perhaps you were granted the opportunity of escape just to be offered to Poseidon. You do owe quite a lot of souls to quite a lot of gods. When the dogs of Zeus caught up to you in Detroit you still had much more killing to do. Perhaps this was Saturn and your debt holders cashing in your marker at last. You felt the water warm and then chill as Helios painstakingly led his chariot across the sky. You said prayers to Hades to perhaps be not so cruel with your soul, knowing better than to dare ask for out and out mercy for your sins.

But Saturn provided. The waves transported you to a beach...and judging by the beer cans next to your sun burnt face, an inhabited one...
SLASHER TEAM EYES ONLY:

You pull yourself out of the surf and look around. You see some tacky Christmas lights glowing on a cabin in the distance, an a dark lighthouse further in the distance. You take a deep breathe and mutter thanks to Saturn. But you temper your thanks with the knowledge that you are behind in your debt to Saturn. But it is Saturnalia. It is his season. Sacrifices you make to him will be looked on with extra favor.

Against a wooden post you see something red and white fluttering in the wind. You take it, and find that it is a Santa Claus costume. Santa Claus, that amalgamation of several traditions including the pagan Odin's Yule and your lord's Saturnalia. The clue is in his hoary beard. Back in Detroit you had a more appropriate costume to wear. You were the Detroit Reaper. You wielded his sickle and dressed in his image as Father Time. But it is better than nothing. It has ties to Saturn.

And you can feel that Saturn approves as you put it on. You feel your tired, water soaked body fill once again with vigor and strength. You have become the Saturn-not the Saturn of gift giving, not the Saturn of the eternal spring time of the Titans allowed out of his prison in Tartarus to fill the world with warmth and light once a year, but the Saturn that devours his children. the mad Saturn, the Saturn that devours the children of the world as Father Time.

You are the devourer of light and life. You are the Saturn that gives good gifts to those that take light and life.

You are the bad Santa. You are here not to bring gifts but to punish the naughty.

You notice an axe buried in a stump a little ways from you.

Oh yes, Saturn approves. He does indeed approve.

SURVIVOR EYES:

Best part of this trip so far is the lighthouse, by far! Lily's told you that this was on the island wayyyy before her family bought it. They think it goes back to at least the 19th century, if not further! And the chipped, crumbling stonework sure makes it look old. There's so many places to hide in the ruble. The wooden porch and winding stairs on the inside of the lighthouse creak when you walk up them. You feel like this would be a great place for a swordfight to the death!

It's all so perfect!

You notice:

Two rusty broadswords on a crumbling wall encircling a coat of arms.

A trap door leading into a murky basement.

The lamp at the top still has some ancient oil in the basin...you wonder if you could light it with your handy lighter?

While on the stairs you notice through a hole in the wall a big, bulky shape moving through the evening dark. An axe is swing over his shoulder. He walks with careful, stealthy steps.

That's not anyone playing a prank. You're instinct tells you to beware. Something is wrong...the news story...could that be....?

Hey, neato if it is. But you still don't want to die. You got to do something!"

The Creepy Kooky archtype reminds me of Luna Lovegood. Also the lily sometimes symbolizes purity, chastity or the virgin mary.
Also also, Lillith is kinda occult/creepy.

Alice just sounds like a more generic common name, thus more likely to be a generic average sorority girl.

Don't change it though, I think I'm starting to get it straight.
>>
>>971770
>implying he doesn't search the basement
then what? nowhere to run, cornered and unarmed. the basement narrows your options severely.
>>
>>971796
You bring up some good points. I chose the basement because I thought it would be easier to hide in then in the rubble, which is comparatively out in the open. But that not being outside would narrow our escape routes, wouldn't it. changing my vote from basement to rubble.
>>
>>971770
SURVIVOR EYES:

You yank a wooden trap door open, tugging on tarnished brass chain. The door opens into darkness with a whine. You hold your lighter out . Its faint light is swallowed by the darkness.

Cool.

You feel your way down the hole. You think you feel something like the remains of a staircase fixed in the Earth. Was this built by pirates? Smugglers? Slave traders? Jamaica has a hell of a history...

Oh yeah. You might want to start thinking about the guy with the axe. He's probably crazy. You wonder what kind of crazy though-the "talks to himself" crazy or the "angels told me to kill people" crazy?

ENCOUNTER 1 START

Slashy says: Oh I love scenes like this. The victim, in a hole , waiting like a present for the killer...

Alice stares out from her hiding spot.

The man is dressed as a ragged Santa Clause. His beady swollen eyes look up and down the lighthouse stairs for signs of life.

Hi black boot kicks a stone. It clatters across the floor. He watches it roll...all the way to the slightly ajar trap door.

Alice holds her breathe... the Santa looks down at the darkness straight at her. Alice can see him and his cruel, lined face. But his eyes haven't adjusted to the dark like her own...yet.

Alice stares back fascination...and tightens her grip on her stone.

The Santa takes a step forward. He thinks he sees something in the dark...something crouched and hiding...

He takes another step forward...he raises his axe...he stares hard down the dark passage straining his eyes to see...

Slashy says: A pity this is one of those cute self aware goth characters. They never scream when they should. I mean what's the point of getting your head chopped off before you scream it off am I right?

Debuffs are your passive score subtracted from one of the Slasher's scores.

Ferocity is what he uses to attack. Speed is what he uses to catch you. Cunning is what he uses to find you and navigate through traps. Cunning also allows him to frighten survivors (which Alice is immune to) and roll cunning effects for successful attacks (which is moot because he doesn't have any).

This two comes from Ferocity (4) minus the weapon rating (thrown rock has 2).

Normally in Fight Back roll like this the Slasher would damage the Survivor on a success, but because it is a weapon thrown over a distance only the Slasher is capable of taking damage from this Fight Back attempt.

Because this is thrown from hiding the Slasher has to re-roll if he gets a success.

Slasher Quest uses an experimental rules system (you should see the mess that was the previous installment) that it gradually being improved on through feedback. For the upcoming Carnival of Corpses I'm going to release a basic V1.0 rule book.

If you have any questions or comments they'd be greatly appreciated. This is a work in progress after all.

>Very Good Result

I think I might have to start making a speed stat for Survivors for chases like this to decide how many success a slasher needs to run them down.

Anyway, it's clear Alice is just about caught...

Alice streaks out of the lighthouse. She runs and runs and runs but she can still hear the heavy footsteps of the monster behind her getting louder and faster in time with her heart.

"What a wonderful situation." Alice says to herself. "I do hope I live long enough to write about it..."

"Ho Ho Ho! The killer bellows as he starts to close the gap. Alice tries loosing on the winding shore paths but he doesn't stumble, he doesn't falter, he continues as if gliding over the terrain.

This is Saturn's season, he thinks. He empowers all to do his work. Even the less than perfect worshipers such as himself....

There's no chance of hiding, not with him this close. The closest path leads to the boathouse. The only other avenue of escape is through the treacherous shore line that leads around the island to the island's central cabin, but its dangerous to run when the path is this dark and this high up from the crashing waves and jagged rocks...

>Survivor Team:

>Run to the boathouse! (comparatively the least risky option)

>Run across the shoreline to the Cabin! (The Slasher rolling good means extra danger for you, but him rolling bad means good things for you)

Alice races toward the boathouse. Her feet kick up sand as she runs. She leaps to grab hold of the dock leading to the boathouse hoping that a quick change in elevation could help her lose the slasher...but her grip slips...and one of her hands pulls away from the wooden planks covered in splinters.

She looks back and sees the slasher almost upon her. She grits her teeth, looks forward, pulls herself up, and...

>Use her for bait. They will come to save their friend.

>Interrogate her about the location of her friends? (Hard to do, your modifier will be negative because of her sub-class ability to never be scared of anything, but you could possibly get some information from her)

>Imprison her. Captured sacrifices killed ritually score you more points with Saturn (and get you pumpkin trophies) but it isn't practical.

Sorry about the wait, I'm still recovering from Christmas.

Yeah, just pick a team to join and join (although playing for both teams is discouraged as we codify the rules the have certain things only seen by certain teams it is still technically allowed).

>Capture her

The slasher's fingers curl around Alice's mouth like a vice as he lifts her over his shoulder like a sack of toys. The girl tries to struggle, she tries to scream, but its no use. Shes' caught.

She was almost to the boathouse. "Oh well." He thinks. "It'll be a good place to secure the sacrifice. I might even give one to Poseidon. I do owe him. And probably several other sea deities...no doubt Proteus will have something to say about me profiting form the use of disguise..."

You step into the creaking wooden boathouse. Outside the waves batter against the shore with growing force. The sky darkens. A storm is coming.

There's a small john boat for shoreline fishing and a larger speed boat for trips to the mainland. The walls are hung with boat chains and fishing nets and gear.

He strings her up with the boat chains like a Christmas ornament. She fights every step of the way but the best she can do is tear some red and white fluff off the suit.

The slasher quickly glances around for anything that might be useful. He sighs. There doesn't seem to be much. Some extra chains, some fishing poles, a marlin strung up against the walls...

Oh look at that.

A box of fireworks. Probably for New Years.

You slip some fireworks and matches under your coat. These could be very useful, especially when the cabin you saw earlier looks made of wood...

>SLASHER TEAM:

>Spend your turn sabotaging boats. Escape must be impossible.

>Equip Marlin. It does nothing to your stats compared to the axe but Poseidon looks favorably on FISH KILL

>Spend your turn hooking Alice with several fish hooks. Makes it more difficult for her to try and escape (and makes it more difficult for anyone trying to get her off the wall).

>Equip boat motor. It's almost like a chainsaw...It will make you slow (reducing speed to -1) but it will bump your Ferocity up to 6 when revved. When not revved however your Ferocity is reduced by 1 to 3 representing you using the motor as a simple blunt object.

>spend your turn Sabotaging boats. Escape must be Impossible
"SATURN WILL NOT ALLOW FOR SAFE PASSAGE FROM HIS MESSENGER THIS CHRISTMAS YEAR!"
>>
>>978570
The slasher Santa goes to work shattering the motors and places holes in the bottom of the boats. There's not going to any chance of escape through the boats.

He stares curiously at his captive. He finds no trace of fear in her eyes.

"You do know that you're going to die, don't you?" He asks.

Alice merely shrugs.

The slasher is almost tempted to remove the rag he crammed in her mouth just to hear her explanation.

"You are a fascinating and strange soul. For that I thank you. The gods look favorable on unique souls. I shall lay you to rest with the customary coins for Charon."

Alice makes a noise that sounds like a question. The slasher sighs. "Death truly holds no fear over you. That is admirable young woman, highly admirable. If I did Pluto's empire of dust so much my life would not have led to me murdering college students on an island in the south Atlantic wearing a Santa costume. Oh well. Such is the game the Gods play with mortals."

SURVIVORS EYES ONLY:

"Well I'll be damned!" Harvey mutters to himself as he crouches outside the boat house window. "I thought I heard trouble and I was right!" He had heard the noise of the frantic chase through the sands and left his precious boat to investigate. Hearing the sounds of the chase suddenly stop he spent a few minutes tramping through the beach trying to find the source of the disturbance before realizing that someone entered the boat house while he was gone...

Harvey grit his teeth at the sight of a large man in a Santa costume tying his friend Alice to the wall with chains. But it is what he sees next that nearly makes him explode with rage.

The Santa starts taking an axe to his precious boat. The windshield he spent hours polishing cracks into shards. The leather seat he oiled splinters and coughs forth its cotton innards. The custom red and white paint job is marred by a gash revealing the grey primer.

This is not a man in a Santa costume. This is a demon from hell.

Too stunned by the horrible sight to do much more than vibrate with rage Harvey suddenly has an important choice to make...

>SURVIVOR CHOICE PART A:

>Try to stealthily help Alice escape. She'll still get an escape attempt (with a high chance of failure) next round if you decline helping.

>Attack the slasher! Punish him for hurting your baby! (And Alice). This isn't very efficient, but when a Survivor does something in character that hurts their chances of winning they get to draw from the Miracle deck. Miracles are strokes of luck that can help Survivors.

>Run and get help.

>The other two survivors are in Cabin B. Do you have commands for them? Do you want to move them? It is perfectly alright to have them stay where they are.

>SURVIVOR EYES:

"So how's things with Alice?" Lily asks as she walks the trail between the central cabin and the boat house, tapping the sand aimlessly with a stick.

"What do you mean?" Herbert replies.

"Oh come on." Lily smirks. "You know...."

"No." He shakes his head. "I really don't."

"I've seen how you're looking at her Herby. You're interested in her..."

"Shes a cute girl...anyone would risk a glance on her..."

"I'm a cute girl to. But you don't look at me like you do her. You look at her you're looking at possibilities..."

Herbert stops.

"...I'm not someone that should talk about possibilities." He says. "I'm not someone that has much possibility in me."

"Come on Herby, don't say shit like that. You're still bummed about dropping out?"

"I'm not bummed. I've accepted what's happened."

"Well then move on with it!"

"I am. I have moved on. I am now Ronin."

"Oh brother. Herby, you aren't a ninja-"

"Samurai."

"Okay. You aren't a Samurai."

"Have you ever seen Ghost Dog?"

"What's that, an anime?"

"Crime film. Forest Whitaker. Very good. The point is that being a Samurai is about living life to the code of Bushido. It's a code-"

"Well Samurai can have girlfriends right?"

"That's second to duty. And until I've reached a point that I feel I've met my duty-"

"Yeah but what is your "duty"? Don't tell me you've found someone to be your shogun?"

"My duty is to fight with all my heart. To put everything I am behind fighting."

"So when will it be good enough to ask out Alice?"

"I don't know." He mutters. "I really don't know."

Lily frowns. "I got a movie you might want to see. It's called Whiplash..."

LILY AND HERBERT WILL ARRIVE AFTER TWO MORE TURNS

"Hey dick!" Harvey steps out of the shadows-in one hand, a lighter, in the other, a gas can stuffed with a rag. "You're going to pay for hurting my friend! And Alice!"
