You are the TEMPLAR, a holy knight sent to clear the frontier of monsters and heresy!

"Ohmygosh, Morgan, you just look so precious!" Niko squeals as she puts the finishing touches on Morgan's dress.

"Um, thanks?" Morgan bites her lip, her ears twitching nervously.

"You gotta keep those still!" Nino pouts. "I can't case this glamour spell if you're gonna keep moving around like that!"

"R-right, sorry." Morgan stammers.

"Don't mind me, I'm just enjoying the show." Naru cackles from the background.

Well, you don't blame her for being nervous. To be honest, you were a little, too. The Templars had taught you much when you were a young neophyte. Cleaning your armor, wielding a sword, finding the most effective way to separate a head from its body... you thought you had learned everything that you needed to know.

Now you had to attend a formal royal function. An even you doubt anybody could have predicted.

Of course, everyone did their best to help you all get up to speed. Naru made some adjustments to Morgan's clothes, Nino had come up with a glamour enchantment to hide Morgan's wolf features, and Niko taught you and Morgan all of the basic etiquette to follow in events like these.

She had even (tried to) teach you both proper ballroom dancing, and...

Maybe we could also get Nino to cast some cosmetic spell to paint our armour.

I'd expect people to be calling us by our nickname rather than just calling us 'templar' since we're sorta famous. Plus, it gives us the right to differentiate ourselves from our other templar brethren with some customization.

...you were surprisingly good at it, even in armor. You had to thank Marshal Ornstein for teaching you to be quick and agile on your feet, even in the heaviest of armor. You wonder how he was doing these days.

"Hmmmm, the armor fits you rather well." Havel rumbles in appreciation. "Just... try not to set it on fire. I'd rather not have to clean off any ash or replace melted parts."

You point your finger to Nino, who was the responsible party.

"Eeeep!' Nino hides behind Morgan and sticks her tongue out at you. "Traitor!"

You just shake your head in exasperation. It's not like you could call down fire from your fingertips like her.

"Anyways, we already arranged for a carriage to transport you to the Elven Quarter." Havel continues. "As I've said before, I will stay behind to watch the Monastery."

It was a sensible measure, but you also knew that Havel had a much better knowledge and relationship with the locals than your or Morgan. Perhaps having him come along would also be of benefit. Perhaps if you had the rest of your party staying behind, he could be convinced to come along...

You nod to Havel. You'll just have to do your best not to disappoint him.

"As for Ozen and her retinue..." Havel trails off. "I haven't seen them so I assume they're still lurking in the forest, ready to strike."

"I can't wait to see it!" Nino smiles as she weaves the last touches of her enchantment into Morgan's dress. "There! All done!"

You take a look at Morgan again and sure enough, her wolf ears and tail were gone. Or, at least, looked like they were gone. You were very well of how glamour spells worked. Essentially very sophisticated illusions.

"Wow... I think this could actually work..." Morgan nods, impressed.

"Hey! That sounds like you didn't have a lot of faith in me!" Nino pouts.

"Sorry, sorry." Morgan laughs and kneels down to hug Nino. "You did a great job."

"Of course I did!" Nino huffs with pride. "I do the BEST job!"

"Guys, guys! The carriage is here!" Niko hisses. "You two better get going!"

"R-right." Morgan nods and looks to you. "You're ready?"

You nod and take her hand as you stride to the carriage.

"So, you want us to tag along?" Niko asks. "You know, just in case something happens?"

You look to Havel, wondering what he needed.

"Hrm, I could always use the extra eyes." Havel rumbles. "Never know what Elves are planning."

"Roger that!" Niko salutes. "See ya guys later!"

"Try and bring back some fancy silverware. Could fetch a good price on the market." Naru advises.

"If you need me just use the bracelet like I showed you!" Nino reminds you.

You nod and wave as you and Morgan step into the waiting carriage and soon enough its rolling towards Eisenwand. Already, Sol's light began to grow weak as it sank below the horizon. Lights began to flicker and flare in response all over the city, illuminating the massive tree that formed the center of the Elven Quarter.

"It's really something, isn't it?" Morgan says as she gazes at the tree. "I heard that it was grown from a sapling taken straight from the Fae Realms. There's a lot of ancient power lying dormant in that tree..."

Just realized how screwed the kingdom is if an invading force decides to besiege the city.

Nobody's gonna fight to protect the city, everyone is going to fight due to their own self-interest.
>>

No reinforcement from the center kingdoms, no nearby allies, right infront of elf border. With mages inside it's walls that will only work to grab more magic from the unmarked lands and the paladins trying to keep the people from revolting.

You just shake your head at Morgan's remark and stare at the tree with mild contempt.

"...you're thinking about what it looks like on fire, don't you?" Morgan asks suspiciously.

You nod eagerly.

"You know, it would be nice if you actually told a white lie or two..." Morgan sighs.

You turn to her. You thought your brutal honestly was one of the things that attracted her to you.

"Don't give me that look." Morgan sighs.

At this point, the carriage had already entered the city proper, and you could see the regular cityfolks celebrating in the streets. Seemed like whenever the royalty was throwing a party, the commoners decided to throw their own. Whether it was in solidarity or in competition, you weren't really sure. However, sticking around was not something you had the luxury to do.

Soon enough, you enter the confines of the Elven Quarter. Like the Dwarven Quarter, this area of the city had its own special flair, as it was decorated according to the cultural tastes of its inhabitants. There was a very... "wild" feel to the area. All of the structures were built out of wood. Or, well, a more accurate description was that they were grown out of wood. Elves had the unique power to shape and manipulate wood to their whims. Cutting and carving wood was something they had no concept (or love) for. Trees and plants were everywhere, and the sky above was obscured by a canopy of vines and tree branches.

It was practically a forest in the middle of a city, all centered around the massive Great Tree.

Like the rest of the city, the Elven inhabitants were celebrating in the streets, thankfully ignoring your carriage as it pulled up to the roots of the Great Tree, where Semiramis' banquet was being held. The carriage is stopped briefly by some Elven guards, but the driver presents yours and Morgan's invitations and you are let through with no further issue.

As it pulls up to the front door, Morgan finally speaks up again.

"So, er, what should we do...?"

You nod to the large gathering of people in what you assuming was the main atrium of the Great Tree. It couldn't hurt just to mingle with the crowd, would it?

"Are... you sure that's a good idea?" Morgan frowns. "Because that mean's I'll have to do all the talking."

You give her an encouraging thumbs up.

"Ugghh, I so wish I could've brought my bow or knives with me..." Morgan groans.

You and Morgan head into the main crowd, where immediately everything goes silent as everybody turns to face you and Morgan.

"Is that the Ashwalker?" You hear someone whisper.

"The armor looks different."

"Is he here to to burn down the tree?"

"Why would the Elves invite someone like him?"

Things looked about to get awkward when you hear the familiar clicking of armored boots behind you.

"Jeez, "Ashwalker'? That's the corny nickname they're calling you now?" Valentia sighs, her arms crossed. "What did you do to earn a title like that?"

You just shrug. The whole fire thing wasn't even from you.

However, Valentia's intervention seemed to break the awkwardness. It was a bit difficult for you to process that Valentia was actually a well respected figure in Eisenwand, so by accepting your presence she was indirectly helping you out in the public eye.

"I have to say, I never expected any of the Templars to show up, much less you." Valentia sighs. "How's it going, Morgan?"

"Surviving." She responds nervously.

"Hey, loosen up, these functions aren't as stuffy as people say." Valentia laughs as she punches Morgan lightly in the shoulder. "These are all people looking for an excuse to stuff their faces and get drunk like everyone else!"

You nod. That would make some sense.

"So, you headed anywhere in particular?" Valentia wonders. "I was just gonna go greet a foreign delegation that stopped by."

You tap Valentia on the shoulder and put your hands in a circle above your head, aping a halo floating above it.

"What, you want to see Mom and Dad?" Valentia groans. "Well yeah, they're here. They're schmoozing with the Elven nobles to try and keep things calm. I'm sure you're not interested in that at all."

"Well, it's been a while since we've properly met your father." Morgan grins. "I actually kinda like him."

"Everyone does." Valentia sighs and points. "But yeah, you'll find them that way. I'd rather not come along because I'm sure they'll find some way to embarrass me in front of everybody."

You decide to stand back and do nothing.

"Vally! I haven't seen you ALL DAY!" Solaire says happily as he scoops up his daughter and hugs her within sight of hundreds of the city's elite. "If I hadn't know better, I thought you were trying to avoid me!"

"Such a doting father."

"That Valentia truly is a lucky young girl!"

"I wish my father would hug me like that."

You look to the long table holding all of the food and drink. Looks like it was just an open service, with any guest coming to take what they desire at any time. Looked like something rich people would do.

"Haha, I suppose even Templars have appetites!" Solaire laughs and pats you on your pauldron. "Enjoy the party, and don't get into too much trouble, all right? I'm not exactly on duty right now..."

"If you weren't looking forward to trouble, you wouldn't still be wearing that armor of yours." Solana says cheerfully as she returns with Morgan. "You two go and have a nice time, all right?"

"R-right." Morgan nods, her cheeks still pink. What had she and Solana been talking about?

Regardless, Solaire, Solana, and Valentia take their leave. They couldn't spend the whole party talking to you, after all.

"I'm actually getting really hungry." Morgan says.

You nod in agreement.

You and Morgan approach the food table, where, to your surprise, there was actually a very large collection of meats in addition to the expected supply of vegetables and fruits. A lot of these meats looked to be venison, wild boar, and even bear.

"Didn't realize Elves ate meat, too."

"It's a rather rare thing to see, but Elves do eat game." Lucina says simply as she steps in. She wasn't in her normal adventurer attire. Instead, she was dressed in a rather elegant looking gown, more befitting of a royal monarch. "Well, you should know that they don't really utilize agriculture as we know it. No farming or herding of livestock. Everything they eat is naturally harvested from their forests, and wild animals are no exception."

"Well, I'm not complaining." Morgan says, her eyes flashing as she voraciously starts piling her dish high with meats.

You pick a bit of a more balanced selection while Lucina chuckles.

"It's good to see the two of you here." She smiles. "It's a refreshing change from having to deal with all these nobles."

"Wait, didn't you mention that your parents would be here?" Morgan asks as she chews on a venison steak. "Where are they?"

"Hmmm probably doing more diplomatic talks or something." Lucina sighs. "Honestly they're really hard to keep track of, even for me."

You grab a goblet of Elven wine. Not even the Elves could possibly screw up making a decent bottle of wine, right?

"Oh? Interesting." Lucina chuckles.

"Really? Are we doing this again?" Morgan sighs.

You and Lucina manage to handle yourselves well, but you could definitely feel the power in the wine. Looks like whatever grapes the Elves harvested to make this shouldn't be underestimated.

"Certainly has a kick to it." Lucina chuckles, her cheeks pink. "Though it looks like you weathered it."

You nod.

"Heeeeeeeeeey~" Morgan slurs as she wraps herself on your arm. "Eheheheh, it's getting really warm in here, you think?"

Uh oh, you could see that Morgan clearly was not prepared for the strength of this wine.

"Uh oh. She clearly wasn't prepared for this." Lucina frowns.

Fortunately, nobody seemed to to notice Morgan's behavior. Not yet, anyways.

You decide it would be best to stow Morgan away to somewhere a bit more secluded. At least until she could regain her senses. You hold Morgan securely to you.

"Don't worry, I'll run interference for you." Lucina winks. "Go on!"

"Eheheheh." Morgan giggles as she continues to snuggle your arm.

You nod in thanks and quickly shuffle off to one of the less populated side halls. You just needed to find an unoccupied room or hallway...

You quickly shuffle off to what appears to be a very sparsely populated side hall and carry Morgan within. You find a door ajar in the hallway. Hoping that it could be of use to you, you lean Morgan against the wall and carefully move forward to check the door.

The room inside looked to a storeroom that had just been emptied. No doubt a pantry used to supply the party. It would be the perfect place to-

You then turn around and freeze in place.

You're not sure how, but Semiramis herself was there, sitting on a tree branch that had grown out of the wall, with Morgan laid down in her lap. The Elven princess smiled as she gently stroke Morgan's hair.

"You should be more careful with your possessions, Ashwalker." Semiramis chuckles, her eyes full of mirth and malice. "You never know what may happen to them while you aren't looking~."

Morgan mumbled something inaudible. Whether she just passed out from her inebriation of she was under some dark Elven spell, you weren't sure.

You stare at the Elven princess, who was still sitting there casually, as if on a throne, Morgan in her clutches. What exactly was her plan here?

"Hm? I only wanted to as ask a simple question." Semiramis chuckles, continuing to cradle Morgan's head in her arms. "I notice that out of the Templars, only you have deigned to appear. Havel is still holed up in his little Monastery, but nobody seems to know where Ozen has gone off to."

Semiramis' smile widens as she puts hand under Morgan's chin.

"You wouldn't happen to know where she is, do you? Or what she's planning? Unknowns always make a little... nervous. Jumpy, in fact!"

Hmmm, looks like activity dropped off quite a bit. I suppose that's to be expected with the holiday, so I think we'll just pause things here for now!

Don't forget to come back next week for the next thread, as well as Macross on Friday!

As for the CIMQ Christmas Special, I might move that to Monday afternoon/evening instead, considering the current activity trend right now, I don't think a lot of people are gonna sit around and quest on Christmas Eve!

So stay tuned on the Twitter for any additional updates! Happy holidays, everyone!

I wonder what sort of girl talk Morgan had.

>>2173754
Depends on if we wish to keep her on the negotiating table, or just burn it to the ground. Not even mentioning being torn between treating her with respect due to her noble birth as well as scorn for being an elf.

Lots of ways we can take the conversation.

I'd chalk it up to her being an upper class elf who knows more than she's willing to tell us. That isn't mentioning that she is firmly holding us by the balls by having Morgan wrapped around her fingertips right now, and petting her like a sleeping dog.
