/qst/ - Quests

You are the grandson of the High Marshall, Lord Commander of the Paladins Templar in the walled city of Khiaros. But what your grandfather doesn't know is that your mother was a Necrotian, a secret society of necromancer royalty opposed the Templar's rule. They were supposedly all wiped out when the Templars attacked their stronghold.

All except the 7 year old child that they thought was a prisoner, you. Now you are going to take Khiaros province by province, while the Templar fools look at you as the child of their beloved Marshall.

You've been busy the last 12 years, and it has all led up to this - you have found your muse, the type of necromancy you specialize in. Your first successful test subject lies before you.

>Choose a type of magic, it determines you starting cantrip and spells, as well as your first creation.

>A mass of corpses held together by your power, each individual body being animated by your power. (Path of the Dominator, starts with spell Graveyard Dance and cantrips Find Corpse and Summon Soul).
>A religiously prepared body of a poor Demonkin gypsy dancer. Killed to satisfy some noble's idea of racial superiority, with your magic shell dance better than she ever did. (Path of the Puppeteer, starts with spells Enhance Puppet [x1] and cantrips Illusion of Life and Heal Puppet.)
>Your own soul, strengthened by years of controlling it like a weapon. (Path of the Knightmare, starts with spell Phantom Blade and cantrips Soul Strenghen and Spirit Sancturary.)

You activate the many runes on her skin that will facilitate her resurrection. Already you can see the scars from her death by torture begin to heal, but it will be some time until she awakens.

Time, if the punctual arrival of your servant Rofal means anything, that must be spent fulfilling your duties as a govenor of District Septimus.

Sure enough, there are several requests for your assistance when you arise back into the waning light of the afternoon. The people know you as a somewhat benevolent and fair ruler, even if they didn't know about the darker aspects of your magic. With the limited time until your Puppet is resurrected you...

>Go and heal the sickly Mrs.Anais, elder of the community (+5 Paragon points)
>Vent your frustrations on the group of ruffians causing trouble in the town square (+5 Deviant points)
>Tend to your court duties and pass judgement on the cases (+5 Magistrate points)

(If you couldn't figure it out, the 3 alignments are Paragon = Lawful, Deviant = Chaotic, Magistrate = Fair. They affect effectiveness of magic on Ressurection, Desecration, and Restoration fields respectively. Currently at 25 in all of them

>>Go and heal the sickly Mrs.Anais, elder of the community (+5 Paragon points)
It is a simple matter to heal what ails Mrs.Anais, this time being a broken arm from trying to lift a heavy load and falling. As you heal her, the Elder compliments you on your magic abilities. She was the one the first determined your magic capabilities. "I do hope you continue improving as fast as you currently are." she says with a smile. "Your mother would be proud to see you now." You smile back at her - if only she knew.

Upon retiring to the keep's basement, you sense that your pet project is beginning to wake. You hurry down to the cellar and just know that she is about to open her eyes what do you do?

>Toss her in a pit with your failed creations, hungry for life force and driven mad. She will have to prove she is worthy of being your creation.
>Be there when she awakens and answer her questions as best as you can - you are her demiurge, it's the least you can do.
>Have Rofal clothe her and bring her to your quarters under the guise of a slave -
best to let her find out some of her new situation by herself.

Do we have any means of hiding our necromantic experiments when our grandfather, the Templar High Marshal, comes around for a visit?
>>
>>2167682
You prepare for her Awakening by setting up her body comfortably and clothing her. When she finally opens her eyes you're there to calm her. "Im glad you're awake," stay in near perfect Demonmtongue. " I'm sure you have many questions, but they can wait until later. For now I want to show you something." Taking her hand, you support her as you walk to your common room. Along the way, you learn her name in the Demontongue is Lillith, and that she is 18 years old. Once you should come in room if you ask her to sit down and take her arm. "This symbol here," you begin shakily, pointing out one of the several necromantic runes you painted on her. "...It means restoration of soul. This one here... it means transfer of strength." One by one you explain all of the runes on her body. "Do you understand now?" She falls silent for a moment before asking with a level voice, "Are you the one that did this?" You nod solemnly. "Then remove it. Send my soul back to where you took it and send,my body home." Even more quietly she says, "I did not leave my home to become a slave under a new name."

>What will you say
>"You are no slave Lilith. You are a comrade, and I need your help."
>"I will do what you wish if that's what you truly desire, but you must listen to me first. There is something you must know."

Rolled 7 (1d10)

>>2168331
Even though she recoils from you, you cradle her face in your hand. "Silly girl," you say with a sneer. "If I wanted a slave, what makes you think I'd choose you? I'm a govenor: I could have my pick of half the beauties in the province and have the men working the mines all day if I deemed it was necessary for the good of Khiaros. But I don't. I brought you back from wherever afterlife you were in because I needed someone I could trust with a job of incredible importance. Now it's a question of whether or not you're going to assist me in my task." Swept in your rhetoric, Lilith asks hesitantly "What is your glorious goal then." You smile - now you've got her. "What every noble wants but is too afraid to take of course." you say, offering your hand. "To take control of this whole damn city."
---
Now that you have Lilith's support, you need to teach her how to use her new abilities as an undead.

"Have you noticed how everything seems...quiet? Almost too calm? Its because you don't need to breathe - were so used to the sound of our heartbeat we don't notice it until its not there anymore. You are faster, stronger, and more agile the average humanoid. You can think faster because your mind will be uncluttered by unbidden thoughts. I want you to try to fight Rofal - don't think you can take him down too easily - he's a former Templar Dragoon, and still has his augmentation."

(You are now Lilith)

Across from you in the manor' s courtyard in the servant Master Francis mentioned. He's naked from the waist up, allowing you to see the scars of his military service. But still...
"Master," you ask hesitantly. "Are you sure it's okay to fight him? He's....kind of old." He just laughs from his seat at the sidelines. "Oh don't you worry, he'll be fine. Now begin!" In the time it takes for you to turn your head back to Rofal, he's already on to you - A quick punch to your gut knocks you back, though it doesn't take away your breath like in your lifetime. Time to take this seriously.

>Combat Tut Time! Lilith and Rofalas stats as well as the rules for combat can be found in the doc in >>2166499. In the meantime, roll for initiative.

Normally there would be, but not on a D10 only for tests, which this is not.

Since the highest score is tied with Rofal as the two of you attack at the same time. Your options are to do at least 1 or up to 3 of the the following actions.

>Attack with Fists (SWD Test, +0 damage)
>Guard (-20 to AGI test to avoid attack but +2 to FRT bonus)

You immediately go on guard - you've seen how fast he can move. Still, you completely fail to dodge his incoming jab, and barely manage to block it by sacrificing your forearms. With his next moves telegraphed you find it easier to dodge his moves. You step aside from his punch and duck under his kick, retaliating with three punches to his abdomen. It seems you weren't controlling your strength however, as the impacts cause his knees to buckle, and he falls. Master Francis jumps from his perch, already chanting the necessary healing spell. Rofal raises his hand in opposition. "It's quite alright Master," he says as he rises to his knees. "I provoked her, and I'm getting too old for this kind of sparring. I'll just retire to my quarters." Master helps the man limp into the house, and you are left standing there wondering what the hell just happened.
