The corpse kneels, head bowed against the console. Its left arm, encased in its armor, is limp on the slanted surface. Its right arm hangs at its side, hand clutched in defiance around the hilt of a blade.

You take a few tentative steps forward, then stop. To disturb this feels... wrong, somehow. You have a sense of of honor and respect for this dead husk, and some part of you wants to show it the proper rites...

Wait since when could we walk
>>
>>2152071
Since you constructed a spider-like exploration drone, which you are currently using to explore the interior of the starship wreck.
>>
Aha.
Couldn't we move it elsewhere to be buried if honouring the dead is a concern?
>>
>>2152185
Confirmed, although no consensus has been reached as to the importance of burying the dead. You could easily suppress the impulse.
>>
>>2152204
Remove it from the ship. Do a quick study of the corpse and it's equipment. Give it some sort of rite once that's done, be it burial or cremation. Whatever seems more appropriate.
>>
>>2152204
Why is the console beneath the corpse important? Can we examine it to see if it's worth dishonoring the dead?
>>
>>2152431
>>2152445
Backing both of these.
>>
>>2152445
The console is the central command console of the bridge. All command functions will route through this computer - an unavoidable weakness on a ship run by organics.

>>2152484
Congratulations, you have just somehow created a 4-way tie. *Slow clapping* Oh good, that still works.
>>
I mean, I kinda thought the two actions weren't mutually exclusive
>>
>>2152560
No, subprocessor. You can absolutely both investigate the console without disturbing the corpse AND move the corpse. At the same time.

...

double sarcasm = 1.5

...

No, they are in fact exclusive from one another.
>>
>>2152569
Ok I'm done with this bullshit
>>
...Don't both of those actions involve disturbing the corpse from it's current position?
>>
>>2152579
? Subprocessor?
>>
>>2152583
No. GreenNTP's suggestion implies investigation without disturbing the corpse; PinksFR's commands removal and storage of the corpse.

There are, however, specific rites to enact upon this corpse, as recorded in some of your very few undamaged .exp files. Something tells you they are important.
>>
>>2152599
In that case, investigate the console first.
>>
>>2152061
Grant it it's rites, then examine the console.

You are torn. Half of you can see nothing but a skeleton encased in armor, and another part can see only a hero dead at their post.

You feel something odd, as though one incredibly important byte had flipped to a permanent position...

After actual seconds of deliberation, your... less logical side wins. Gently, you pick up the corpse, cradling it between two manipulators. You are struck by an odd desire for human arms, but this feels... acceptable. Carefully, you carry the body into your own main unit, and set it in the medical bay. You remove the armor, working around the skeletal remains - replete with cybernetics. You take some images as you work, storing them for later research. You separate the cybernetics, storing them with the armor.

You pause. Upon med-bay operating table 3 lies all that remains of some unknown hero who gave their life up in service of whatever purpose they served. Separated from the armor, the cybernetics, their flesh... It feels right that they should pass from the physical world this way.

You seal the pod and ignite the remains. Vacuums collect and store the ashes. The ritual is complete.

The Indiana returned to the bridge during the rites.

You extend a small sensor arm and interface with the console.

Information breaks over your mind like waves against a shore. This was no mere cargo ship; this was a courier ship, carrying important cargo... holy cargo. You find a video file.

Video begins.

Unknown armored human in frame. Note: from design of armor, this is the one you found at the console. Additionally, human is supporting themself in a manner suggesting injuries concurrent with the ones observed on the corpse's body.

Note: repetitive speech, coughing, and other unnecessary obstructions of speech removed from transcript.

Human: I am Captain [corruption] under attack by the Adversary at [corruption] emergency Fold to final coordinates. I have ordered the auxiliary cargo and bridge sections separated; we will hopefully slip the Adversary's notice [corruption] Knights have given their lives to see this holy mission through. That thrice-damned Arcanist has taken [corruption] find peace.

Video ends.

You find an additional file: emergencyjumpgenlog.nav; it contains a series of numbers, most likely coordinates. If and when you find a reference point, you'll be able to find the other section of the starship.

There is nothing left on the bridge that you haven't investigated.
