When last we left off...
"Olympus Mons. A system they were designing. It could theoretically manipulate reality."

>How close did they get?
"Pretty damn close. There was one and only one issue- it required an unconflicted, unhesitating will to activate. An all-consuming emotion. Which made it very hard to use meaningfully. After all, anyone with an unhesitating will has a very particular idea of how the world should be, and debates over who could be trusted with it were heated."
>You destroyed it?
"We had to," grumbles Dr. Bennett. "I was neighbors in the hospital next to a veteran of the Vietnam War. I'd prefer not to state his name to not speak ill of the dead. He had apparently been brought in after a failed suicide attempt." He sighs. "I tried to talk to him, but he was quiet. Unnervingly so. I guess it wasn't surprising when a manifestation of his anger showed up in the Witching Hour intending to use Olympus Mons to change history."

"That was maybe the hardest enemy we've ever had to fight as a group," Petrus shivers. "He was basically a walking fountain of napalm. Shit still haunts my dreams."

Donna stops the explanation. "Hold up. If you beat him, why did you need to destroy Mons?"

"Defeating him summoned Typhon." Principal Brown clarifies. "I don't know why."

"If Typhon is the manifestion of self-preservation, then I could figure why." Keith says. "I mean, if he was suicidal, and you stopped him from getting his way, he might be scared that he had no reason to live."

"So he called on Typhon to change reality using Olympus so he would have a reason to live." Sofia stares at the floor, placing a hand on her chest. "He must have had no-one to turn to."

"We tried to help him, but we had to stop Typhon." turning and walking to the window, your principal looks out guiltly. "Otherwise we would have lost everything. There's no telling what it would have done with a reality-warping machine. I had to wrest control of Mons myself and send Typhon back. It was nearly-infinite power for a few seconds, but I'd never do it again. It felt like losing my humanity. Olympus broke from being used too much too quickly."

"What happened to the veteran?" David asks, but as soon as he makes eye contact with his father, he knows.

"He didn't make it." Petrus adjusts his standing pose. "After Typhon disappeared, he just... gave up. His Monster vanished and when we came back, he was gone."

>What was so bad about his idea of changing history?
Orosco shrugs. "Don't know what it would do in the long-term. I mean, this guy wanted to change world history up to and including the Tet Offensive at least. Some of us weren't even born by that point, much less you. Who knows how many people might have just ceased to exist had he had his way? There might have been small changes we didn't know about. Could have even had nuclear war."

>Hate to be that guy, but what are the chances we're fighting a ghost here?
"Unlikely," Brown says. "Given our unfortunate adversary was confirmed dead, God rest his soul, that Kronos has been able to interact with living people pretty extensively, and he wears reflective headgear, I don't think so. What reason would a ghost have to hide his identity?"

>So Kronos has repaired Olympus?
"He'd need some pretty fantastic engineers or a really strong sense of patience."

Dr. Bennett corrects him. "It wouldn't be that hard for the actual design- the issue would be power. That's one of the reasons stockpiling Myths is prohibited, if I remember correctly. If you found a way to collect a lot of Myths at once, you might be able to do something with it. But you'd need a ton of them."

"You mean exactly like Kronos has been collecting Monsters like baseball cards?" Donna points out.

"That would..." Walt's father looks uncomfortable. "Yes. That would be bad. He'd still need quite a lot, however."

"Well, shit, what are we waiting for?" Martinez asks. "We find Kronos and his machine. Take him down, tear it apart, problem solved."

"I don't think it'll be that easy," Ruth steps up. "He'll be ready. We don't know where he prefers to hide. And every time we fought him, it was on his terms. We need to wait on our backup."

"Can't we at least try to stop him from taking any more Monsters?" Keith clenches his fists. "I'm tired of letting him call the shots."

You ask your allies to hold their horses and get a roughly positive response.
"I think we'll be able to do this," David says. "We just need to have every possible bonus on our side, and that includes Walt and his friends."

"Better than just striding into the unknown as always," Sofia chimes in. "This ends as soon as he gets back, then. We know who to go after as soon as the explanation comes from him."

Your phone isn't responding with any information from the younger Bennett. It seems this discussion will have to wait two more days. Kronos's identity seems so close, and yet so far away.

---
AFTER SCHOOL, Monday October 8th (Weather: Cloudy. Forecast for tomorrow: Rainy.)

David knocks on your door to inform you his brother has arrived. "He's here."

As you all assemble in his office, you can tell Walt looks exhausted. He kneads his brow and puts his sunglasses on as you come in. "I think I"m sure now." He stands up. "I was charged with corporate espionage while I was in Japan, and I only got out of it temporarily because of a strong business connection."

"Corporate espionage?" Sofia is incredulous. "Who on earth would charge you with that?"

"Who else could? Clover."

"Wait, what?" Keith asks. "But he's... Why? Just All of a sudden like that?"

"Why indeed?" he looks at you for a second before turning back. "You know what I'm going to say next. He has the resources, the connections, the knowledge. The only thing I'm not sure of is motive, and for someone like him, anything could work." He puts his fist down on his desk. "He's Kronos. I know it. He has to be."

"Your grandfather?" Donna asks.

"Yes," Walt declares, frustrated. "Try and keep up."

"Revenge against who? Sostrato? Sostrato is dead. I literally watched him die in front of me. My parents? I suppose he might, though it seems a bit petty to go all this way. Power? What doesn't he have in terms of power? I guess he might be megalomaniac enough to think he can rule the world."

He puts his fist down on the desk again, hard. "Dammit, this doesn't make any sense, but nobody else fits."

"He seemed... salient when we talked to him," Sofia says. "Was it all an act?"

"Might be. Everything about this is weird."

"No shit." Keith says. "I've had about enough of the smokescreens and questions about who's doing what why. It ends now."

You return to Babylon to find that the backup is already here, setting up. Walt's fiancee, who is concentrating on her support-type Myth, notes your arrival and walks over.
"Oh, you're here." Slightly intimidated by all of the people that are taller than her, she states to you, "I've swept this area... I've come to the conclusion that whatever device our enemy is using is at the lowest floor- Treachery."

"Anything else we should know? They're most used to dealing with my support, so I'll be acting as their eyes and ears." Walt's tone becomes much softer and warmer than he's ever used to address any of you. David seems a little jealous of how happy they seem with each other.

"No, I don't think so. If I see anything I'll tell you." She sees the older group members and recognizes Dr. Bennett. "Oh, hello, Doctor."

"No need to be so formal," the senior nods to her. "I'm less support-oriented, like your redheaded friend, but if you need close-range information you can contact me. I think we'll be headed out with whoever's not on the lead to serve as backup."

---

And it looks like you need the two other groups, because the first thing you run into is a roadblock.

"Walt, the elevator isn't going any further down than Heresy." Keith keeps pressing the buttons to no avail. "Your Merlin's good with machines, right? Can you get it to work?"

"No can do. He's set us up. I'd bet my bottom dollar he's got the place rigged so we can't move forwards without defeating whatever he has ready on this floor."

As the door slides open, you see a darkened experimental lab. "Uh, is this really Heresy?" Donna asks, studying the electrical panels on the wall, which hum softly. "I mean, I figure Heresy would involve controversial works or crimes against nature."

Stepping out, Martinez prepares for battle. "Don't give Kronos any ideas. They've got Biological, Mechanical, and Human Research going on, which basically answers your question."

Walt contacts you again. "We should use the different groups to search the place. Pick one and we'll send down another crew."

Your instincts tell you there's another way, and you're indeed right, as you open a janitor's closet and find that it runs an uninterrupted path down to the basement level.

"Interesting. It was blocked from me before, but now I can sense the way down- and Harpe waiting for you at the bottom. You should be able to defeat her on your own, but backup will be headed your way."

---

You find yourself in a dim room with walls marked with bulletholes and blast damage. Harpe's bright blue eyes glow in the dark as she turns to face you with a sinister grin. "So you've hunted me down. Whatever shall I do without big bad Durandal protecting little old me?"

"Cut the shit. We know Kronos is Clover. What's his endgame?"

The gynoid considers this for a second before giving up with a raised-hands gesture. "Don't know, don't care. Never did."

"So what, you just do this for laughs?" Donna is confused.

Once again, Harpe doesn't give this much thought. "Yeah. Pretty much, really."

"That's messed up, lady." Martinez mutters. "Like, you don't have a reason for any of it?"

"Nope." She laughs mockingly. "End of the line, brats."

"Whoops. Forgot to mention there's no help getting in or out. That means your precious Walt can't save you from a deathblow." Harpe gives you a grin again, delighting in the sight of red. "It's been too long since I killed a human." Medusa begins to form around her, and Keith lunges forwards to try and strike her before things get out of hand.

You notice that Harpe tried to use Keith's charge as cover and your tendency to protect your allies to focus her attack on you. Murky hands emerge from a runic portal she creates below you, but your wary attitude prevents you from being caught.
Seeing her regular attack wasn't working, she tries to turn on her gaze, but Donna blocks it with a flock of dark magic that, while it barely harms the gynoid, leaves her open for Keith to use D'Artagnan to slice small marks on her armor.

Harpe barely seems flustered, and instead her facial expression indicates she's enjoying this. She closes the distance between you in a flash of movement, and her bullet fingers are inches from your face in an instant. "Cut off the head..."

Not fast enough. You barely have enough time to prevent her from putting a pair of bullets into your skull, throwing off your aim and allowing her to jump over you. You clip her slightly on the downwards arc, but she scrapes you qith a bullet that causes you to bite your tongue and a shallow red mark to appear on your chest.
As Harpe crouches to absorb the fall, Kenneth immediately responds with a burst of nuclear power, tossing her into a wall and forcing marks of damage to appear on her exterior armor.

A flurry of light birds give her no time to rest, and the gynoid begins to jump on and off nearby testing tables and the walls to evade Donna's attack.
"I can't pin her down!" Price mutters.

"Let me try," Keith says, and uses his powers to coat the floor with ice. Harpe slips and only regains her footing in time for the light-birds to catch up with her. As a response, Harpe turns Medusa's lethal gaze your way. Just like the flashing alarms turned the room red, now her gaze makes the crimson glow even stronger within her line of sight.

There's got to be something in here. With a sudden show of Faust's force, you rip the top off of a metal table and hold it up, hoping it's reflective enough to cast some of Medusa's glare back in her own direction.
A few agonizing seconds later, the light stops and Harpe cries out in anger, giving off smoke from her joints. "Damn you!" You toss the table in her direction and she deflects it with her arm before punching Kenneth when he rushes up to meet her and putting two bullets in his side.

Donna immediately summons more light birds, but Harpe lunges at her in a fury, stopped only by Keith tackling her and punching Medusa's user dead in the face. After he pinned her to the ground, the Japanese machine elbowed him in the face and yelled at all of you, "Filthy damn humans! I'll kill you all one by one. I'll snap all of your necks myself!"

Harpe and Keith are too close for you to guarantee you'll hit her and not him, and if she transforms into Medusa and uses her gaze now, he's as sure as Hell paralyzed.

You don't get to the impromptu sheet you had before in time.

"Keith, get off of her!" Kenneth yells. "It's too risky!"

"No! I've got her! Just wait a little longer!" He froze Harpe's arms, but she was already shifting into Medusa before he could finish or you could move it to reflect. Of course, you were able to use it as cover, but when the glowing stopped, Keith was stunned and stiff, and continued to be as Harpe broke through the ice barrier he created, shot Donna in the knee before she could stop her, and then dodged Kenneth's blast, aimed not to hit Keith.

As you move forwards to try and stop her, she raises her fingers to Keith's still brow threateningly. "Just try it, kid." she mutters, looking at you and slowly raising her other hand in your direction.

"I'm mostly fine... but I can't move my leg..." Donna whimpers, biting back tears. "Don't you dare hurt him!" she demands, before clutching her knee again.

Harpe ignores her. Her gun is now pointed at you. If you or Kenneth moved, she would shoot Keith. If she didn't, she would shoot you.

The gynoid stares at you quietly, gauging your words. After a while, she throws back her head and laughs. The laughing is a maddening sound that echoes throughout the room. Kenneth snarls at her, but when he moves to attack, Harpe cocks her hand at Keith again, staying Martinez's hand.

She addresses you specifically. "It would, wouldn't it?"

Then she shoots Keith in the center of the forehead. The sound echoes in your head.

Oh God.
Keith is dead.

You don't even see an exit wound. Wait a minute, that's not supposed to happen. You attribute it to the shock of seeing one of your best friends die in front of you, but everyone else seems to notice it as well.
"You know, the last time I did that, the poor sucker awakened to his Myth- but"

She's cut off in the middle of the sentence by an arctic blast that throws away everyone in the room, surrounding Keith. D'Artagnan flickers in place before surging with power and replacing himself.
An animated suit of antiquitated green armor carrying a two-handed sword and wearing a red sash around its waist roars in defiance of Harpe.

Wooh! Not bad at all Keith. Thanks for running, Judge.

What happens next does so quickly.
The armor picks up Harpe before she can shift back into Medusa and throws her through a wall. The resulting impact blows a ragged door-sized gap through the concrete and sends the gynoid tumbling several meters afterwards. Both of her arms and one of her legs have been torn off, and her head lies tilted at an awkward angle.

Still, the one remaining limb function she has, she uses to begin to get up, before being struck by a lightning bolt and falling limp. Walt is here, flanked by his fiancee. They had both summoned their Myths to try and contact you apparently.

"Couldn't get a message in. Are you all alright?" When he sees Keith slump to the floor with a bloody forehead, he rushes over and assesses the damage.

"Is he gonna be alright?" Kenneth asks. "And Donna here was shot in the leg."

"He'll be fine once we get help over here." Walt lays Keith in a shock posture and looks at Donna's knee wound. Donna twiddles her fingers awkwardly as he does so. "You're not gonna be able to walk for a while. Gonna need to carry you guys out of here."

"Kill stealing motherfuuu..." Keith mutters before moaning in pain. He's still bleeding slightly.

"Thank goodness you're all right," Walt's fiancee rushes in, and looks at Keith with a mixture of worry and anger. "That was totally reckless and you should be glad he wasn't killed."

Donna tries to defend her boyfriend of sorts. "Well, like they say, if it's stupid and it works-"

"Then it was still stupid and you got lucky," Walt growls. "But as they also say, better lucky than good. Support Leader, can you report on Durandal's position?"

"He's in Violence for sure." it's the voice of the redheaded woman that replies. "Stand by. He should be near. We'll wait for you to provide support."

Sofia adds the background, "I thought I was Support Leader."

"Not important," Walt says. "Keith and Donna are down. I'm porting them out of here. Pick two to replace them. I don't care who, just do it."

As soon as your two friends are ported out, you group up with the others. The backup is fending off a disproportionate amount of Curses.

Hades is a huge figure in black robes with serpentine facial features carrying a steel bident. He shares facial features with Kronos. Poseidon is carrying a bronze trident and appears as a tanned man whose waist is replaced by a small typhoon supporting him off of the ground. Zeus is a powerful-looking man who looks like a wingless angel with silver skin and pure white robes carrying a stylized golden thunderbolt.

Also in Walt's backup are a female Myth with a vicious whip and a male one in Classical armor carrying a sphere in one hand and a sword in the other. You'll have to ask who they are later.

Sofia and David join your group, and David salutes you. "Boss!" He seems eager to take orders. "Things have gotten worse. Apparently he's using the Curses in this area to buy himself time."

"Where are Ruth and that other woman?" Sofia asks. "They were here just a second ago."

"Incoming threat!" Walt barks. "What the hell is that?"

"I don't know," his fiancee mutters. "It's electronic, but I can't communicate with it- or with Durandal. He seems to be inside it."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzbPNNX9LxI

"Say hello to the Enkidu Armor," the answer comes, as a blonde woman in a suit is thrown towards you. She contorts in the air to land on her two legs with agility befitting David.

She attempts to address your former ally. "Durandal. You do not need to do this. How do you benefit from Kronos's actions?"

Durandal chases Ruth from the place they were fighting, except now he's over ten feet tall and looking more like a bulky white power loader. "As I was saying, Enkidu Exo-Armor. Built to contend with the strongest Myth-Users there are. And your precious electronic interference doesn't do shit to me while I'm in here."

"Why?" the blonde woman asks again. "I was like you- I have gained meaning from-"

"We are NOTHING alike, you glorified sex doll." he closes one of the claws. "Excuse the insult. You won't remember it, because Kronos will reset everything that ever went wrong in my FUCKING life. Hell, I don't even care if he erases me outright. I've scrapped more of my own kind than any human or android ever has- or you have. I've got nothing left but to follow orders."

"We can talk this out," she insists, intending on reaching out to him.

>>We can talk this out.
>After he's out of that extra armor.
>Durandal, you're not thinking straight.
>No, he's made his choice. We'll handle this.
>This is one of those "Men talk with their fists" moments, isn't it?

"I don't understand. Why would he suddenly do any of this?" Ruth is still incredulous.

Durandal roars, "I don't need to explain anything! And Kronos will undo your deaths anyways!"

"It would seem so,"Walt sighs. "Until we can crack open his electronic defenses, you need to try to bring his guard down. Right now it's a one-in-a-hundred longshot."

"Never tell me the odds," David smirks, but Sofia gives him a glare.

"Now's not the time. Pythia!"

"I remember everything..." comes the whine from the armor.

Writing...
Next post will probably be last of the night, sadly.

His armor is durable, but as usual, joints prove lightly armored- if lightly means 'slightly less indestructable than everything else'. Unfortunately, these joints only seem to exist for limbs, not his neck and head. You could probably crack them open to expose wiring, but it'll take some serious damage.
David manages to dodge the armor's main attacks, but it's much faster than it seems and the only real weakness it has is that it's fighting four of you at once.

"Lied to... They stole my memories..." Durandal growled from inside the larger machine. "The things I did out of desperation, or as a part of following orders- I swore I would never again... and then they wiped my meory, so I was as innocent as a fresh private."

Evelake hesitates for a second, as if considering what sorts of things he could have been coerced to do and then have been forced to forget.
