Far off, nestled in an otherwise small Japanese town lies the Dark Gate Academy. An institution of tremendous size, the Academy holds a long kept secret. Unknown to the outside world, this unseemly town is home to a tear in our reality. A gate between our world and a bizarre dimension known as the Darkworld. The inhabitants of this hellish world breach this gate and attempt to flood into our reality and spread throughout the world on a regular basis. However, the Dark Gate Academy is home to students of truly extraordinary abilities. The ability to sense the presence of these evil Darkworld creatures, and defeat them in combat, sending them back through the gate.

They cannot close the rift between our world and the Darkworld, but the students and staff of Dark Gate Academy have dedicated their lives to using their amazing powers to hold back the darkness that plagues our world, even if it costs them their lives. They have risen up to the challenge and in secret have become great heroic defenders of the world as we know it.

For many years, Dark Gate Academy has held back the forces of the Darkworld, kept this unspeakable evil contained within their walls in secret. But now, with their existence revealed, a great cloud of change looms over Dark Gate Academy.

“Ryoji, you're snoring...”

You jolt awake and look to your left, where Saki is sitting, reading a book. The rumbling of the bus as it moves beneath you causes you to give off a low groan.

“Ugh, did I really fall asleep?”

Saki nods. “Well, we did have to get up at 6am, and you and Ken spent all night marathoning that tv show...”

“Hey, you think watching the first two seasons of Justice Rider Tankman was my idea?” you ask. “It was all Ken... and now I'm facing the consequences... good show, though.”

“You best stay awake!” Chihiro comments, leaning over your seat and flicking your head. “I don't want my dear Ryoji to miss my stunning debut!”

As Chihiro lets out a haughty laugh, you squint your eyes and stare. “You're just starting an internship. I doubt you're debuting in any magazines soon.”

“Ah!” Chihiro wags her finger. “But I'm sure to impress beyond expectations! I'll be a cover star within the day! And if you're having issues with staying awake, the sight of Chihiro Toriyama in a swimsuit is sure to keep any man up at night, isn't that right, Makoto?”

Makoto gulps, blushes and looks away out the window as you let out a sigh. Chihiro seems to have forgotten the only reason you're travelling to Hariuddo isn't to follow her on her internship with that model agency. Wei sensed darkworld activity in the area, meaning it's likely to be targeted by one of the Archdemons. Makes sense, Hariuddo is a beacon of the rich, famous and influential... the perfect place to target in search of a host to possess. You imagine it didn't take a very long time for the demon's to pay attention to human's interests to draw such a conclusion on this place.

“I'm still not sure about having the first year's here,” you point out. “Even if it's just the two of them.”

Makoto nods his head in the best attempt at a bow he can perform in his seated position. “I know I'm still inexperienced, but as head of my class I feel I'm responsible to learn in the field under my superiors!”

“Careful!” Mio exclaims, sitting next to him. “Bowing like that, you almost shoved your face into my lap!”

“What about you, Tanuki?” you ask.

“Tanuki?”

“You remind me of a Tanuki from a video game a played once,” you explain. “Would I prefer I called you Nook?”

“I'd prefer you called me Mio!”

You shrug. “Either way, something tells me your motivation for coming is less noble.”

“How cruel, Ryoji-senpai!” Mio pouts. “I'll have you know that I have a key business interest in a certain modelling agency!”

“Business?” you raise an eyebrow. “Actually, never mind. I don't need to hear about my underclassmen's investments.”

“But my investments are fun... and profitable!” Mio proudly grins. “If you heard, you'd be awfully proud of your favourite kouhai!”

“Nothing could make me proud of Kaz,” you point out.

“I was talking about me...” Mio mutters. “But that was an expert one-two punch, senpai!”

Saki shakes her head. “Regardless, you two only need to observe and stay safe. Ryoji and Hikaru are in charge of sensing any magical disturbances, while Akio and I will handle combat should anything go wrong!”

“I hope it does!” Akio smirks. “Taking down a demon in the middle of Harriudo? That's sure to put the spotlight on me!”

“You hope a demon smashes up half the city?” Hikaru glares, pulling Akio by the ear. “Think before you run your mouth, idiot.”

“Just to be clear...” Agent Green announces, holding up a clipboard as he rises from his seat. “Just because one of your friends is here on account of leisure doesn't mean you all are. This is a serious task, and you all need to remain focused. Until the matter of the disturbance is settled, I want you to refrain from the following: Horseplay, Fun, Jollies, Shenanigans...”

“Let's all get Italian food when we arrive!” Miss Hirashi exclaims, pumping her fist.

“Did you listen to a word I said?” Green sighs. “Why are you even here, anyway?”

Hirashi pouts. “They're still students! They need to be chaperoned by a member of staff!”

“And why did you insist instead of a more qualified teacher?” he asks.

Hirashi smirks. “For the food, of course! This city has the best restaurants in all of Japan!”

“It's true,” Mio laughs. “Sae almost strangled me when she heard I was going! Well, not almost... she did...”

The bus comes to a stop, and you begin to pool out onto the city streets. Chihiro cuts a pose on the pavement, blowing a kiss to the group. “Well, this is farewell! The last time you'll see me as your incredibly glamorous friend Chihiro... from now on I shall be your ultra-glamourous MODEL friend!”

You feel a tapping on your shoulder. You turn to see Sayeka by your side. “May I speak with you a moment, Ryoji?”

“Oh boy, bad visions?” you ask.

Sayeka shakes her head. “No, not that... this is about Chihiro, and her internship...”

“Don't worry,” you reply. “I don't think the agency will be as eager to dress you up as she is-”

“N-no, not that...” Sayeka blushes. “I... I'm worried about Chihiro. She's been so excited about this, but... I don't think this is right for her.”

>It's okay. Chihiro's got a good head on her shoulders. She's not as impressionable as she seems.
>Yeah, I'm worried too. She has a habit of getting swept up in stuff like this...

>Yeah, I'm worried too. She has a habit of getting swept up in stuff like this...

Sayeka nods. "I'm glad to see I'm not the only one concerned... I was beginning to fear I was simply being paranoid..."

"Well, if you're so worried about it," you point out. "You could always just look into her-"

"No," Sayeka states. "Chihiro has specifically requested I never look into her personal future."

"Huh? Why not?" you wonder.

Sayeka shrugs. "She finds the idea of the great unknown thrilling. Items like her future career, future husband... she doesn't want me to look into the outcomes and possibilities. She wants to be free to make her own choices, whether they're a mistake or not. In fact, I do respect that outlook... but it doesn't shake my fear."

You smirk. "You're so loyal to your friend that you won't break a promise even when you're this fearful? That's some serious commitment, Sayeka."

Sayeka sighs. "You and I know Chihiro better than anyone else. She'd never forgive me for something like that."

"Don't be so sure," you smile as you place your hand reassuringly on Sayeka's shoulder. "Whatever happens, Chihiro still has us. We'll keep her right."

Sayeka pauses, then nods. "Right... thank you, Ryoji."

"Okay, let's get a move on!" Akio exclaims. "First stop, those model offices!"

"Why are you in such a rush?" Hikaru asks. "Oh, I see... you expect to catch some models in the act!"

As Hikaru pulls at Akio's ear, you begin to move. As you do, Chihiro bounces up to you and clings to your arm. "And just what were my darling Ryoji and Sayeka speaking of in private?"

"None of your damn business."

"So harsh!" Chihiro laughs. "Could it be some scandalous gossip? Are you sharing secrets, Ryoji? Could it be that Saki is-"

"No!"

"Oh," Chihiro mutters. "Well then, I believe I'm yet to hear your congratulations for my new position! Isn't it wonderful? I'll be working directly under Japan's top model, the Sadistic Kanako Iwatani! What do you think of her, Ryoji? I'm sure you've read many of her magazine spreads..."

>Not my type, but good for you.

Chihiro twirls around and clasps her hands together in delight. "Oh, I knew you were happy for me!"

"Why wouldn't I be?"

Chihiro looks up at you and smiles. Her faux charming tone slips away as she looks you in the eyes. "Thank you, Ryoji. This... does mean a lot to me."

You sigh. "I know... congrats."

You and Chihiro share a hug, as you turn your attention to the building ahead of you.

"Ah, here it is!" Chihiro exclaims. "ROSEBUD modelling agency!"

Chihiro rushes up to the front door, and rings the buzzer.

"Name?" a weary voice on the end of the intercom asks.

"Toriyama Chihiro!" she exclaims.

There is a silence on the intercom, until a different, more prominent voice speaks out. "Toriyama... Fufufu..."

The doors to the office swing open... as you're almost tripped up by a red carpet being rolled out of the building. Seriously?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRivqBxbHRs

"What is happen-GAH!" Mio calls out, startled by a whip cracking in front of her face. She moves back in line with the others, as two men in black suits come carrying the one and only Kanako Iwatani out on their shoulders. A whip in hand, her legs and arms crossed, and a permanent cold scowl on her face... this is what Japan is into nowadays? No accounting for taste...

A third man throws himself to the floor, his back raised for Kanako to stand atop, overlooking the rest of you. She steps off the man and faces Chihiro. "Well... here you are."

"It's truly an hon-"

"Poor colour scheme," she points out. "But... you're here to learn."

Chihiro grins. "Of course, teach me everything you know Kanako-Sensei!"

Chihiro is startled by another crack of the whip.

"Never call me that," Kanako spits with a sadistic grimace. "I'm not some old hag. Call me... onee-san."

"O-Of course!" Chihiro exclaims, her eyes lighting up like glittering diamonds. This... is what Chihiro looks up to? What she aspires to be? That doesn't sit quite right with you.

Kanako scans the rest of the group, before her eyes set on Makoto. She strides up to him and looks him dead in the eye. "Speak your name, peon."

"M-me?" Makoto asks, a little intimidated. "Why, I'm Mako-MPH!"

And just like that, Kanako Iwatani kisses Makoto. A harsh, passionate kiss, her tongue invading his mouth like an aardvark with an ant-hill. Makoto's eyes are stunned, unsure of how to process it, completely taken aback.

Makoto is about ready to pass out from the sudden sensory overload as Kanako pulls away. "That was your first kiss, wasn't it, peon? I can always tell."

"Hey, what was that about?!" Mio asks.

"First kisses are overrated," she explains. "People attach a false sentimentality to the concept, and it restricts them. Constrains them like vines. I just freed you boy, perhaps now you can be saved from becoming another mindless, ugly peon."

>Stay silent. Chihiro will say something, you're sure of it.

Come on, Chihiro has a thing for Makoto. She's not going to just stand there and let that slide.

But apparently, she does. But looking at her face... she's certainly not okay with this. She's just in shock and unsure of how to act.

"Just who does she think she is?"

"W-with all due respect..." Makoto mutters.

"Look at his face," Kanako grins. "He loved it."

"T-that's neither here nor there..." Makoto blushes. "I don't think it's very respectful to-"

"Oh?" Kanako ponders. "Tell me, would Toriyama here treat you any different than I? Could it be I misjudged her? Speak, peon! Let me know if I made a mistake! Would Toriyama treat you any better?"

"She... she..." Makoto mumbles, before hanging his head low in defeat. "... She wouldn't."

Chihiro gasps, as Kanako turns to her. "Then the potential is real. Come, Toriyama... let us draw it out of you."

Kanako is lead back inside, as Chihiro hesitantly follows her. She stops by Makoto and turns to him, a forlorn look on her face. "M-Makoto, I..."

"DON'T DARE APOLOGISE!" Kanako cracks her whip. "You're above such things, now."

Chihiro pauses, then sadly nods, before following Kanako inside. The doors slam shut, as you all stare in silence.

Makoto proceeds to be slapped across the back of the head by Hikaru.

"What were you thinking, saying something hurtful like that!" She yells. "I thought you were supposed to be one of the good ones!"

"Hikaru, it's okay..." Sayeka sighs. "I understand, Makoto. If you had disagreed with her assumption, she would have cancelled Chihiro's internship then and there..."

"I... I didn't want to cost her a chance at her dream..." Makoto sadly mutters.

Sayeka shakes her head. "I know... still, this does nothing to help my fears."

"What should we do-"

"Nothing we can do," Sayeka states. "Chihiro isn't in any physical danger, as far as I can tell. And... seeing that, I trust Chihiro to realise that perhaps this is not the life she wants to live. I respect her, so I leave her to make that realisation herself. But... I'll always be worried."

"You know what you kids should be more worried about?" Green points out. "Demons."

"Smoooooooth segue," Hirashi laughs.

"Regardless, that's the matter at hand. Shirai, Shida, any leads on-"

"Under the sewers," you and Hikaru answer at the same time.

Green raises an eyebrow. "That fast?"

"With magic you don't really have to make a show and dance about searching for it," Hikaru explains.

"And I sense it without even trying," you point out.

Green pasues. "And why is that, Shida? I don't recall seeing you ever cast a spell?"

"That's because I'm just that damn good of a mage."

Green huffs as you and the group carry on.

"So, this demon magic you sense..."

"It's no big deal," Hikaru explains. "The actual aura is faint, and it's position hasn't changed. My guess it that there's some old
cursed relic down there. Retrieving something like that would be useful for research, but we aren't contained to time limits."

"Hikaru's smart enough to have that worked out. I'm getting the same aura that I did from that inscription in the mountains.
"

"Meaning it's not the demon itself, but some sort of message left behind by it..." you remark. "Why in the sewers of the city, though? I know this world is completely alien to them, but they're smart enough to work out that the people are above ground. Why not leave a message up here?"

"Part of the game, I suppose. They only want to leave the message for those who can find it... and understand it."

"So me."

"Word of The Drifter's destruction likely travelled fast among them. They're all wary of you."

"Good."

As you arrive at a street where construction seems to be operating upon the sewer system, you see Green standing beside a yawning Hirashi, arguing with the foreman.

"What do you mean I don't have access! I'm with the government!"

"Big whoop!" The foreman yells. "How about you show me a badge before I let you in anywhere!"

"I... I had my badge, I swear! I just seem to have... misplaced it!" Green explains.

The foreman groans. "Yeah, I'm sure a cat stole it or something, great excuse."

"No, I must have dropped it around here somewhere... look, I'll be back! With my badge!"

The agent and the teacher turn back to the students with a defeated look... well, Green has a defeated look. Hirashi is grinning from ear to ear.

"Well, this might take a while to sort out..." Green sighs.

"Oh well!" Hirashi chuckles. "Guess I'll just have to take the students out for a meal while you search for your badge!"

Hirashi moves away, but Green catches her by the collar of her shirt. "I think you mean while WE search for my badge. Kobashi, take the students somewhere. Keep it responsible, and don't move to far. This hopefully won't take very long."

Saki nods and turns to the rest of the group. "Well, any suggestions? A nice meal doesn't sound too bad."

"We should check out the market!" Mio explains. "I have a lot of pull in some of the stalls, so we'll be sure to get great deals!"

"Screw that!" Akio kicks the ground. "Didn't you hear? The Dakugeto Fan Clubs are meeting around here! Don't you want to see all our loving fans?"

"W-we have fan clubs?" a flustered Saki asks.

"Yours is the biggest!" Akio adds.

"B-biggest?!" Saki yelps.

"Alright!" Akio pumps his fist. "Time to bask in the adulation of our adoring fans!"

"I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you," Hikaru points out.

"Oh come on!" Akio boasts. "How could I not have a ton of fans by now! I'm Saki's second in command, isn't that right boss?"

"Ken's second in command," Saki replies.

"Then why am I here and he's not?" Akio smirks.

"Because Ken was asleep like a log this morning," Saki explains. "Too much Justice Rider Tankman got to him."

"Oh."

You and the group move on, led by the overeager Akio until you reach what appears to be... a middle school.

"Middle school fan clubs..." Mio mutters.

"Well, where else would all our fan clubs be in one place?" Akio asks, before getting smacked across the head by Hikaru.

"You idiot! We're not just going to saunter into a middle... what's that rumbling sound?"

Within seconds, you and the group are mobbed by a horde of students. Someone must have spotted you from a window and whipped the school up into a frenzy.

"It... it's them!" one student screams. "It's really them!"

"This can't be real!"

You sigh. "Yeah, it's us. We heard we had fan-clubs around here? We'd... like to meet them."

A collective gasp rings out through the students, and soon you're being shoved inside the building, facing a hall of rooms.

"It's lunch-break so we'll all be meeting now!" one of the students, apparently the council president, explains. "I'm president of the Saki fanclub... and like most of them, you'll be sure to find some heated debate when you walk through that door!"

Is that so? You make your way to the Saki fanclub door and creak it open, as you spot someone giving a speech to the room with a whiteboard.

"For the last time, Ryoji and Saki are a terrible pairing! Saki belongs with Ken, those two are obviously made for each-other!"

That's enough out of that. Let's see what your fan club, right across the hall has to say. You creak open the door and...

""For the last time, Ryoji and Saki are a terrible pairing! Ryoji belongs with Ken, those two are obviously made for each-other!"

... Right.

"Heh..." Saki chuckles nervously, slightly embarrassed. "I guess when people don't know us, they come up with pretty fanciful ideas."

>They don't know crap about us. Maybe we should educate them?
>Kiss Saki in the middle of the hall.

It's not often that you get a chance to fluster a whole group of people at once... Saki included. You pull Saki in by the waist and lay a kiss upon her in the middle of the hall. You could hear a pin drop as your respective fanclubs stare in disbelief as you and Saki lovingly make-out in the middle of the halls. Eventually, Saki breaks away and blushes. "Ryojiiiii!" she yells while lightly tapping you with her fist to your chest. "We're in public!"

"And where was that complaint thirty seconds ago, Sak?" you smirk, leaving Saki and even more flustered and blushing mess.

"Yeah Sak, where was it?" one of the students ask, leaning against the wall with his sleeves rolled up, blinding you with his bleached white hair. You wonder who he's trying to emulate?

You stare at the student and calmly state, "Don't do that. Only I tease Sak."

"R-Right sir..." the student cracks. "G-geez, he's more intimidating in person..."

"I heard he was a master delinquent! And she can turn into a dragon!"

"I don't turn into a dragon..." Saki mutters. "I can just summon Mr. Gorudo..."

"She named it!"

The murmurings between the students continue as they stare in awe. You'll never get used to something like this...

"I'd hate to see what would happen if they knew about me... I don't think I'm comfortable having a fan club."

You spot Akio speaking with the school council president, a frustrated Hikaru by his side. "Hey, where's my fan club?"

"And you are?" she asks.

Akio glares. "Heh, good one! Mine must be this big room in here!"

Akio presses on, bursting through the door with a wide smirk on his face. "Have no fear people, your valiant god among men, Akio Naito, has arrived!"

You could hear a pin drop... but not out of shock.

"... Who?"

"Isn't this my fanclub?" Akio laughs. "Judging by the size, it must be."

"No, this is for Reiji Yasukawa."

"Who?" Akio asks.

"The Akio Naito fanclub is over there."

Akio looks over to across the hall, and he's not happy with what he sees.

A supply closet.

But sure enough, it's labelled as the room for the Akio Naito fan club.

Akio hesitates to open the door, but when he does, he's greeted by the two dorkiest looking twins you've ever seen. Bowl cuts, spectacles thicker than Akio's biceps, even some snot running down their nose.

Definitely not what Akio expected from his adoring masses.

"Why are these nerds hiding in my fanclub?" Akio asks.

"These nerds are your fanclub, genius..." Hikaru sighs, mortified. "Apologies for my pet idiot, he's-"

"AWESOME!" the two nerds snort. "It's Akio frickin' Naito!"

The cold dead eyes of Akio tell you he is not pleased with this result.

>Be happy you have something. Is fame really that important to you?

"Shut up, Ryoji!" Akio exclaims. "I'm the strongest human in the world, and I want to be known as such-"

"Akio doesn't care about the fame!" one of the nerds exclaims. "That's why he saved us!"

"... Come again?" Akio mutters.

"We were living in Raibaru when that thing attacked," they explain. "Our house crumbled around us... but someone saved us!"

"Yeah!" the other twin explains. "Akio used his strength to lift the rubble up over his head! He saved us and our parents from being crushed!"

"Now that you mention it..." Akio mutters. "I do remember that happening..."

"Yeah! Nobody was around to take any video that could be sent to the news, but Akio Naito risked his life anyway! He didn't care about fame or accomplishments! He just saved people!"

Akio pauses, looking at the two kids... and then bursts out laughing. "Oh, you kids have got it all wrong! You dorks should be at the Ken Tajiri club with that lame spiel! Akio Naito has always been about three things, Fame, Money, and Showing off!"

"Oh..." one of the kids mutters. "Guess we were wrong..."

Akio laughs as Hikaru slaps him hard across the face. "The hell is wrong with you?! You're going to laugh at your only fans like that?"

Akio looks away. "Didn't you hear them, babe? Doesn't care about the fame... they've got the wrong idea about me. And they're willing to hang out in a storage closet to cling to that wrong idea... I don't deserve loyal fans like that... and they deserve a better hero."

"No way!" the nerds yell. "You're awesome! Besides, if you cared about the fame, then why aren't you famous?"

Akio's eye twitches.

"BECAUSE..." he begins.

"Because he chose to save someone over getting involved in the big fight," Hikaru smiles. "As stubborn as this idiot is... that's the truth. And he can't escape that. Try as he might to pretend that he's not a good person."

"We knew it!"

Akio sighs. "You people don't give up, do you? Okay... what do you kids do in this club, anyway?"

"Well, last week we were deciding which girl you were best suited for. We decided on the blue-haired bookworm."

"Nice choice," Akio nods.

"I have a name..."

"... And this week, we're devising a Dakugeto trading card game."

Akio smirks. "Nice, do I have the highest rating?"

"For balance sake we figured to give Saki Kobashi the highest rating... but you're second!"

"All I needed to hear," Akio smiles, as he sits in the closet with them. "Let's take a look."

You walk up to Hikaru, scratching your head. "That was a roller-coaster of a conversation."

"I think I've torn Akio between worlds," Hikaru states. "His nature tells him to seek fame and act like the obnoxious jackass he's been for so long... but he struggles to do that when his heart tells him otherwise."

>So... where do you think we rank in that card game?

"Probably not very high," Hikaru comments. "It's not like we're obviously any of the heavy hitters."

"Speak for yourself," you remark. "I took on an Archdemon by myself."

"And how many people know that?" Hikaru smirks. "Face it, in the eyes of the public, we're basically scrubs."

"Speaking of eyes of the public..." you smirk. "I noticed you didn't check out your fan club."

"W-why would I?" Hikaru notes. "I don't need to guess. I'm certain that my fans are pure intellectuals who only care about the finest of literature-"

"Really?" you interrupt. "Because I would have guessed a bunch of horny teens who are into the librarian type."

"You... How dare..." Hikaru says, her face twisting into a look of disgust. "Don't even suggest that..."

"Well go ahead, open the door," you smirk, crossing your arms. "Unless you're too much of a chicken to find out."

Hikaru huffs, and hesitantly hovers her hand over the door handle. She looks to you and lets out a sigh. "You win this one, Shida."

"This a new contest?" you ask. "I hope so."

You and Hikaru make your way down the hall, where you see Sayeka staring into Chihiro's fanclub.

"I expected you to be checking out your own," you comment.

"I already did," Sayeka states. "They were nice. Mostly lovestruck boys, but I'm used to that."

"Lucky you..." Hikaru mutters.

Sayeka turns her head back to the Chihiro fan club. You look inside and... it's like a mini Chihiro factory. A bunch of girls walking, talking and dressing like your friend. Huh... maybe Chihiro really is destined to become a fashion icon.

"I wish I could see them," Sayeka comments. "They sound lovely..."

Still, you note that Sayeka is smiling more brightly than you've ever seen her smile before.

"Hey, where's Makoto?" Saki asks.

"Oh, he got swept up by his fan club," Mio mentions, counting a large handful of money. "They were very eager girls. I assume he's been eaten alive by now."

"Do I want to know where you got that cash, Nook?"

Mio smirks. "Oh, just selling some official Dakugeto merchandise."

"Merchandise?!" Saki exclaims.

"Yeah!" Mio smirks. "Gotta hop on that wave of popularity! It was nothing special, I had some bobblehead made along with t-shirts with your faces and various catchphrases on them."

"C-catchphrase?" Saki pouts. "I don't have a catchphrase! Ryojiiiiiiii!"

"She's right," you reply. "Look at me. I'm a Master Delinquent! Do I look like the kinda guy who spouts lame catchphrases?"

"Wow, you two have no sense of irony, do you?" Hikaru mutters.

Mio laughs. "And don't worry, I'm going to share a cut with my senpais who made this all possible!"

>Pat Mio on the head for a job well done.

You reach your hand out and place it atop Mio's head, patting her gently. "Good work, Nook."

Mio blushes, but her face is one of satisfaction... and a little smug. She's been seeking this kind of approval.

"Heh... thank you, Ryoji-senpai!" she smiles, trying to keep her composure.

You ruffle Mio's hair before making your way through the other fan clubs. Nanami's fanclub features a bunch of drama kids, no surprise there. Akemi's fanclub seems to be made up of the smaller and younger kids, Hoshi's is filled with awkward girls, Rei attracts the athletes of both genders, and Ken's club consists of a bunch of hot-blooded protagonist types... and some of the women on the school staff. Something about Ken's wholesome heroics must attract the older women... he'll be tickled to hear that.

Eventually, you make your way back to your own clubroom, where you decide to spend some time with your fans. They seem a fairly diverse group, some wannabe cool guys, some love-struck fans... and a few normal types.

One girl seems particularly sweet. Apparently the youngest in the club, she seems to be completely fascinated by you.

"So, are you here to fight demons?" She asks.

"That's classified," you smirk.

"Classified?" she gasps. "So cool! You know... when I go to highschool, I hope it's at Dakugeto."

"Really?" you ask.

"Yeah!" she exclaims. "I want to fight demons and save people, just like you!"

You smile. "Well then, in a few years I'll have to check in, see if you're attending. What's your name, kid?"

"Nina."

You stop smiling.

"Oh... what a happy little coincidence, Ryoji! Uhh... Ryoji? Ryoji?"

"Don't."

"Huh?" the girl asks, confused by your change in tone.

You scowl. "Don't you ever go there, you hear me. Stay the hell away from that academy."

"B-but I-"

"Stay. Away."

"Ryoji... what are you..."

You shake your head. "Sorry..." you mutter, as you exit the room, leaning against the wall and letting out a deep breath.

"I... I guess that brought back nasty memories. Sometimes I forget... I'm just a spirit... the real me is gone..."

"And I watched you die."

"Ryoji..."

You'll never shake it. It's something that you'll have to carry. The weight that will always be on your shoulders.

Nina died because of you.

The people in Raibaru died because of you.

Anyone else these demons kill... it'll be because of you.

"Sorry for the hold-up!" Saki laughs as she rushes up to you in the hallway. "I got caught up in playing piano for my... Ryoji, is something wrong?"

You shake your head.

"You can't hide anything from me, mister!" Saki places her hands on her hips. "What's bothering you?"

>It's nothing... really.

"Ryoji..." Saki mutters, her face aghast.

You shake your head and curse under your breath. "Nina... Raibaru... Daisuke... hell, I was the one who set Yamato over the edge... and now with these demons, it's only a matter of time because I cause more deaths."

"Ryoji, that was The Stranger-"

"-Using my body, that I let him have. People are going to die because of me, again and again. I... I can't take it, Sak."

"Ryoji..."

Saki looks at you with eyes of concern, as she approaches you and... pokes you hard in the chest.

"Ow, what the hell?"

"Ryoji..." Saki mutters, her eyes brimming with tears. "You make me so mad sometimes! What is this? What are these words?!"

"H-huh?"

"People are going to die? Going to? You've accepted that as fact?"

"Saki, I-"

"Nobody is going to die, not if we can help it!" Saki yells. "That's why we're here... it's the only reason we're here! We're heroes! And.... and how dare you act like we'll fail. The Ryoji I fell in love with isn't a defeatist! The Ryoji I know... he'd look inevitable disaster in the eyes, and... and... headbutt right in the face!"

A long silence falls in the hall, as Saki places a hand on your chest. "I know it's difficult..." Saki mutters. "I can only imagine the guilt, the pain you've lived with this past year... but it's no use standing there and giving up, feeling sorry instead of preventing more disaster! If you fall..."

"... You pick yourself back up," you mutter. "Sorry, Sak."

Saki hugs into you tight. "N-no, I'm sorry... you're scared and we should be able to share your fears with each-other..."

"Yeah..." you mutter, stroking Saki's hair. "You know, you give one hell of a passionate pep-talk. Last time I was on the receiving end of that anger was before we were dating."

"O-Oh, really?" Saki mutters, embarrassed.

You chuckle. "Yeah, you laid into me like a dragon."

"Well, I lost my cool," Saki admits. "I saw you upset and I didn't know how to handle it... I guess I'm pretty protective of my hus-boyfriend."

"What was that?" you smirk.

"N-nothing."

"You were going to say husband, weren't you?"

"... S-shut up..."

"We all ready to go?" Hikaru asks, interrupting the moment.

You shake your head. "In a sec, I've got to apologise to a Nina in there."

Scratch that, two Ninas.

After saying your goodbyes to the school, the rest of you make your way back towards the construction site. Makoto is looking a little worse for wear after being mobbed by his fangirls.

Makoto lets out a deep sigh. "What an awful woman..."

You shake your head. "I know, I don't trust her either. But... maybe it's just a public image thing? Maybe she's not that sadistic in private? I don't know, I have no idea how these celebrity people work."

"Let's hope so..." Makoto mutters. He seems very concerned, as expected.

Arriving at the construction site, you see Green and Hirashi ready to go. "Alright, time to get to work... after that awful delay."

"You finally found your badge?" Saki asks expectantly.

Green's eyes dart away. "Well... not exactly..."

Hirashi beams proudly. "Instead, I turned on the charm to get them to allow us in!"

"You did more than charm them..." Green mutters, blushing.

"What did she do?"

"You don't want to know-"

"I flashed them, of course!" Hirashi states, as most of your bowl over in shock.

"And we missed it?!" Akio yells in despair, earning a poke to the ribs from Hikaru.

"J-just hurry down," Green mutters. "The sooner we settle this, the better."

As you make your way down into the sewers, you begin to step ahead... before Sayeka grabs you by the arm. "Be careful where you take your steps, everyone. It's dangerous down here."

"What?" Saki asks. "Have you had visions of a monster or something?"

"Not a monster," Sayeka explains. "It's... well, you'll see. Keep track of the entire group. Don't take your eyes off anyone. Hold hands if need be."

Ominous, but you suppose it's faster to just show you than tell you, You begin to move forward, you and Saki leading the group, but nothing seems to catch your attention. "Are your visions accurate?" you asks Sayeka, as you press onward. "Because I don't see any-WHOA!"

Something snags onto your leg and pulls, tripping you up into the air. It's bright green and constricts tight around your ankle as it waves you around. You see that it also caught Saki as well.

"Senpai!" Mio cries out in concern.

"Vines?" Makoto mumbles.

Akio leaps into action, slicing up the vines and freeing you both... but as he lands another one catches him by his feet and holds him up as well.

"Jet Blade!" Hikaru yells as her projectile fires and slices through the vine, freeing Akio, as the three of you fall headfirst into the sewer water.

"There's more up ahead," Sayeka notes. "Lined along the walls. They won't thrash you if you don't step on them, so be mindful of your feet as we press on."

"It... might have..." Sayeka admits. "A-among many other visions! I-I couldn't tell!"

"Thanks a lot, now I'm gonna stink for weeks!" Akio grumbles.

"What else is new?" Hikaru teases.

"Shall we continue?" you sigh, as Sayeka gives a respectful and nervous bow. "Y-yes... again, sorry."

Sayeka continues to apologise profusely, becoming more and more flustered with each iteration as you slowly and carefully make your way through the sewers.

"Hey Senpai, look at this!"

"What is it, Nook?" you ask as you turn to face Mio.

"Check it out!" she points at the vines hanging above her. "Aren't those roses?"

"Roses on the vines?" you mutter. She's right, you were watching your feet so carefully that you didn't even notice the roses in bloom across the sewer. Now this is even more curious...

Saki taps your shoulder. "Over here. I see something."

Moving on, you see... a glowing tablet, attached to the sewer wall, framed perfectly by the roses.

"What the...?"

"Something's inscribed on it..." Saki mutters. "But I can't read it."

"Don't worry, I can."

You move closer to the tablet and read the message left... a message left for you.

Dearest Stranger, you pick such an odd world to take refuge in. Such an ugly world. As expected from such an ugly god....
look around you Stranger. Look at what I have left here. Is this place not more beautiful under my guidance. Soon, this world too will be transformed. Recreated in my image of beauty. And what a world that would be. Do you intend to stop me, Stranger? I would hope so. It would grant me no greater pleasure than tear away that ugly mask of yours. Yours truly... The Vanity.

You read the message aloud to the others as they stare in confusion.

"The Vanity?" Saki mutters. "If it hopes to find a suitable human host, then it would be..."

"Just about anyone in this city?" Mio point out.

"Yeah..." you admit. "We might have to stay here a little longer."

"Wow... Green is going to be pissed."

We're going to haul ass back to the studio, call it an emergency, and then remove Chihiro from the premises posthaste. Forcefully, if need be. If what's her name gets in the way, we punch her in the gut and see how she handles if. If she transforms or something, then we whoop ass. If not, well, we just let PR handle it. Chihiro will hate us, but after this scare I'm willing to sacrifice that for the sake of safety.

Good thread. Hope we can get Chihiro out of there as soon as we can.

>Predictions
Either she breaks out herself in a POV episode. Gets trapped by Kanako as The Vanity and we rescue her. Or a bit of column A and column B. Either way. We have not list her yet.

And I think we may see a certain angel get her wings if all goes well. But she'll need a push.

"Are you comfortable?"

Chihiro's eyes dart up towards her hero, before swiftly returning to the floor of the limo she's travelling in. She can't remember the last time, if ever, she was this reserved.

"Y-yes... Kanako-senpai..."

Kanako glares at Chihiro, letting out what can only be described as a low growl, before Chihiro corrects herself.

"Sorry... Onee-san."

Kanako nods, before looking out the window. "I hate the cold."

"Oh?" Chihiro asks. "Then I suppose you prefer warmer weather. Bikinis, sunny beaches?"

"... No," Kanako mutters, a stern look on her face, he gaze not meeting Chihiro's eyes. She seems lost in thought when she speaks.

Kanako shakes her head, her whip by her side as she raises a glass. "No matter. I feel a drink is in order."

"Yes, madam Kanako!" one of the manservants from the limousine speaks up as Kanako snaps her fingers, producing a bottle of what appears to be champagne. "A drink. For me... and my new student."

"Yes, my lady!" the eager servant exclaims, pouring some sparkling champagne into Kanako's glass as she takes a sip. The servant then turns to pour the champagne into the glass of Chihiro, who is eager to accept it. Unfortunately for her, a whip cracks, and the bottle is knocked clean out of the servants hand, spilling on the floor of the limousine.

"Just what on earth do you think you were doing?" Kanako glares, with a look of murderous intent. A cold-dead eyed stare, one that reeks of anger and contempt. "You useless peon! You disgusting pig!"

"My lady, I-I was just-"

"She's too young to drink!" Kanako grimaces in disgust. "You were supposed to pour her juice instead! Are you too dumb to realise that, you brain-dead worm?"

"I-"

"Or were you trying to booze her up?" Kanako asks. "You sick pervert."

"I-I'm sorry, my lady!" the servant bows. "What can I do to make up to you?"

"Clean that mess," Kanako orders, as the servant goes to his hands and knees, a towel in hand. Kanako decides to add insult to the matter by jabbing him in the lower back with her heel.

"Pathetic..." Kanako mutters, her tone more grumpy than sadistic. "I'm tired..."

Before she even makes a request, another servant is on hand with the foot massage.

This glamorous lifestyle, men waiting hand and foot... sharing a limo with her idol... and yet, Chihiro does not crack a smile. She does not fawn over the model, she does not act boisterous and haughty. Chihiro doesn't speak up at all.

"Something seems wrong," Kanako states in a matter-of-fact tone. "You're not as talkative as I expected you to be."

"I... I'm perfectly talkative!" Chihiro insists. "It's just..."

"Speak," Kanako replies. "I didn't bring you here in order for you to shut up. Unless you're a peon, you'll speak when you have something to say."

"Why..." Chihiro mutters. "Why did you do that to Makoto?"

Kanako stares, her brow furrowed and her expression unchanging. "Who? Oh... that boy."

Chihiro nods, and Kanako continues to speak. "You didn't care for my actions? You felt that I acted out of place?"

"It... It's just that..." Chihiro mumbles. "He's such a pure boy, and..."

"No, he's not."

Chihiro looks up at Kanako as the model looks out the window, her mind lost in thought again. "That boy is like all the others. You might think he's different, that he possesses this mythical purity... it's all lies. People are nothing more than dishonest worms. Ugly creatures who act on instinct and will do anything to fulfil their desires of flesh. When you bat your eyes and twirl your hair at that boy, do you honestly believe he sees you as a compatriot? An equal?"

"O-of course..."

"He sees a pair of legs, and hips that make him touch himself as he thinks of caressing them. He doesn't care... none of them do."

"That's not true-"

"He said it himself, did he not?" Kanako points out. "He sees you nothing more as a weapon of attraction. At best, a nuisance. I know you may think different, but the fact of the matter is that others are never worth your time. People will hurt you, they'll lie to you... they'll always hurt you. Let you down."

"But..." Chihiro mutters. "Why would he...?"

"Do you know why I was drawn to you in the first place?" Kanako asks.

Chihiro shakes her head.

Kanako leans forward, staring into Chihiro's eyes for the first time since they've begun to speak. "It was those eyes of yours. You're certainly attractive enough to be a model... but so are many. You're glamorous enough to be a model... but so are many. You're fashionable enough... but so are many. And yet, I've never taken a student until now... and it was those eyes."

"M-my eyes are really that pretty?" Chihiro asks, blushing.

"No," Kanako states coldly. "They're your worst quality. Just looking at them... disgust me. Makes me sad."

"Oh..."

"But it was what drew me to you. In those eyes, I saw something I hadn't seen in a long time... a girl who truly wanted to be loved... yet a girl who was truly alone. I knew that look all to well... it was one I carried a long time ago. I was just like you once, Chihiro... and seeing you awakened something in me I never knew I still had. Sympathy. I want to help you, Chihiro... I want to free you, the same way I wished someone would free me of these burdens when I was your age. To cut the strings holding you down, as you take your rightful place... floating high above the pigs and the rabble who would try to hold you down at their level. Chihiro... when I saw you... it was like looking into a mirror."

"My lady..." one of the servant mutters, moved to tears. "That was so-"

"Pig, who told you to listen in on my sentimental conversations?" Kanako scowls as she strikes him with a whip.

Chihiro sits in thought and anticipation, clutching her chest as she speaks. "So... someone hurt you?"

"... Yes," Kanako mutters, as she sips from her glass.

"And... You felt lonely like me?"

"... Yes," Kanako answers again.

"So..." Chihiro's eyes light up, as she speaks in a hopeful tone. "If I follow you... if I become like you, those feelings of loneliness... they'll go away, right?"

Kanako gives no answer. Instead, she simply finishes the rest of her drink in a single gulp before looking out the window.

The limo journey continues in dead silence, the only sound the heavy beating of Chihiro's heart.
