You and Morgan were left at somewhat of a shock when Lucina guides you to the banquet hall. As expected, the walls were pearl white lined with gold decorations and inlays, with a white marble floor that reflected light almost like a mirror. Up above, intricate brass chandeliers illuminated the room, their magically enchanted flames burning with the intensity of small suns.

And the table itself looked large enough to build an entire sailing ship out of, made of durable yet finely carved wood. You could see the shapes of animals, trees, and even people among the various detailed carvings.

And despite looking to be able to seat dozens of people, only three seats were actually set, with a small collection of fine dining plates and utensils at the ready.

"T-this is certainly quite something..." Morgan hesitates. "I don't feel like I should be here."

You nod in agreement with Morgan. Honestly, this all seemed a bit too much to you. Even the grandest Templar Fortress Monastery didn't have this level of grace and ornamentation.

"Please, it's mostly just for show!" Lucina assures you both as she waltzes over to the prepared seats. "Now, the cooks are the best in the Frontier! You can pick anything you want!"

You just give Morgan a slight shake of your head and she immediately catches on.

"Erm, I guess he would rather prefer something simpler and leaner." Morgan explains. "But I on the other hand... well... you have roast beef, right?"

"We cook the whole cow." Lucina nods.

Morgan's mouth is now visibly watering. You guess you should have figured her to be a bit of a carnivore.

"Yes, please."

"Then it's settled!" She laughs as servants begin dashing in.

"Would you like some drink with your meal?" Lucina continues, ever being the gracious host.

However, the meal was kind of a blur, and the next moment, you realize that all the food was gone and both Morgan and Lucina were very, VERY close to you, each one taking a flank. Their faces were flushed red and they were definitely not in their right minds.

"Templaaaaaaar~." They both slur.

Your danger sense, honed from years of training and monster hunting, began to fire off. You were not in a good situation right now.

Tired of this charade, you casually just roll over, causing Morgan to yelp and fall off. You then pick up both her and Lucina by the collars like disobedient kittens and march them back to the room Lucina had prepared for you all.

"Oh dear, have we had a little too much...?" Lucina mumbles, apparently starting to regain her senses.

However, Morgan was already fast asleep. You set her carefully down on the bed and finally let Lucina back down.

"Sorry about that." Lucina says apologetically as she rubs her forehead. "It's not very often that we get to break out the good stuff."

You nod. It was indeed very powerful stuff.

"Nnnnnnn, Lucina smiles as she plops down on the bed next to Morgan. "If only mother and father were here..."

You tilt your head. The King and Queen of the city weren't even present?

"Ah, they travel a lot." Lucina sighs. "I suppose it's only natural for the leaders of the Capital of Adventurers to be adventurers themselves, huh?"

You sit down next to Lucina, interested in what she has to say. The bed creaks and groans, but holds its structure. You had to admire how well built it was.

"But, well, it's not like they're always out slaying monsters and finding treasure." Lucina sighs. "The other half the time they're trying to stay on good terms with the inner kingdoms."

You tilt your head. Relations weren't that good?

"Ah, well, it stems from something my great grandfather did when he founded Eisenwand." Lucina smiles nostalgically. "Back then, nobody knew how vast the Frontier was, or even what it held. The land was essentially unclaimed, but nobody wanted to develop it. So the kingdoms started issuing royal charters guaranteeing land rights that would be recognized by all human kings."

You nod. Made sense so far.

"But you see, my great grandfather was a crafty man." Lucina giggles. "He manage to make the wording of his charter vague enough that he had claims to Frontier 'going as far west as the mountain range.' But the problem was nobody had actually measured exactly how far those mountains were!"

You pause. You remember Morgan pointing those mountains she was interested in to you. And the land between Eisenwand and those mountains was vast. Almost large enough to-

"Eisenwand had enough land claims to make itself as large as any of the inner Kingdoms." Lucina chuckles. "And my great grandfather went out of his way to collect the charters of other frontier nobles, either buying them out or well... 'asking them nicely.'"

This left you wondering just exactly what kind of person Lucina's ancestor was.

"And, of course, the other kingdoms haven't taken kindly to that." Lucina sighs. "That's why you don't see them sending much in the way of help besides adventurers."

"But..." Lucina smiles again as she looks at you. "I heard you Templars don't have good relationships with the other Kingdoms except the northern territories, correct? How would you like an ally in the west...?"

Was she really asking for an alliance...? Of course, this was something the Grand Marshal would have to decide, but it seemed she was asking your personal opinion on the matter.

Nah the kingdom is to big or wild and is stuck between elfs and possible nibles thay would take the chance to take the land.

But since both of these parties know about the templars and fear then and also dislike the templars she might see us as a more willing ally.

Now that i think of it this must be the elfs plan, ally with the royalty so they can cast the templars out and then the elfs and the humans can protect themselfs from invading kingdoms. Like a less agressive take over.

You give a cautious nod. It sounded like an effective plan, one that would benefit both parties. Though large, the Black Templars had only a few Fortress Monasteries scattered throughout the kingdoms. Few countries were willing to host their Order within their own borders, even though they were always glad to accept its military assistance whenever Orcs or Elves or even the occasional Dwarf army invaded. A secure base in the west would prove to be a rather large strategic boon.

And it seems that Eisenwand would get the army it would need to finally tame the Frontier for good while at the same time warding off the influence of rival kingdoms.

Still, something seemed a bit off. Havel had been here for years. Why hadn't the royal family communicated this to him? You give a curious look to Lucina, who seems to catch your meaning.

"Well, you see, recent events have use concerned." Lucina mutters. "Semiramis suddenly arriving is of course a provocation from the Elves. But what concerns us more is that none of the human kingdoms have tried to stop her or curb her movements."

You freeze. She couldn't possibly be implying that-

"It is our belief that the inner kingdoms want a war to spark between us and the Elves." Lucina is now dead sober, her eyes giving you a hard stare. "They know we cannot hold our lands securely against the full might of the Elves. And that would be the perfect time for them to intervene."

You nod in understanding. If the Eisenwands were forced to plea for aid from the other kingdoms, it was a near guarantee that they would force the Eisenwands to let them carve up their land claims for themselves. A wretchedly underhanded strategy.

"So you understand why we would be interested in working with a party that has a less... vested interested in our ownership of these lands." Lucina admits.

You pause. Ozen was planning to make a move during the banquet, which would be sure to spark the war the other kingdoms wanted...

>Don't tell her. This is a Templar affair.

let's try persuade Orzen surely she wouldn't want to be used to spark a war with the elfs...oh who i'm kidding she would probably love it...

You feel like it's a betrayal telling an outsider of another Templar's plans, but you feel this is too important not to say.

You take Lucina's hand and guide her to the window, where you point to the Monastery.

"Hah, did you think we wouldn't foresee that your order might try something during the banquet?" Lucina grins wryly. "Especially with Ozen herself here?"

You look back at Lucina. Was she really okay with this?

"It merely accelerates the inevitable, in my opinion." Lucina crosses her arms and shivers. "And I mean, this will sound callous, but I'd rather we get the first shot in, you know what I mean?"

You nod in agreement. That meant you wouldn't have to go against Ozen.

"Still, I do fear what might become of the Paladins and Mages if war were to break out." Lucina sighs, clearly troubled. "I've tried to build close ties with them, but... well... I'm still not sure if they will stand by our side."

You point to her and then to yourself, wondering if she's told them what she just told you.

"Ah, of course not! It's all very sensitive." Lucina shakes her head. "And, well, I guess you can say I'm afraid of what they'll say..."

You shrug. Whether the Paladins or Mages agree or not makes no difference to the Templars.

"Still, it will be a very chaotic time." Lucina sighs and then looks back at you. "Still, how about we move to a more pleasant subject?"

You nod in agreement. You're too full and buzzed to keep worrying about these matters.

"How about a quick stroll outside? Just to get some fresh air." Lucina grins as she gently takes your hand and tugs at it. "It won't take long, I promise."

Meanwhile Morgan snores softly, still out cold.

You let Lucina lead out towards a nearby balcony, which overlooks the whole city of Eisenwand. Down below, you could see the glittering lights of the city.

"It's always such a beautiful view up here." Lucina smiles as she leans on the guard rail. "I'm glad that I could finally share it with someone else."

You look at Lucina curiously. She didn't have anybody else?

"Er, well." Lucina hesitates under your gaze. "I guess you could day I don't often have company over..."

Ah the life of a Princess must be a rather lonely one. Perhaps that was one of the reasons why Niko fled from her kingdom. Perhaps to escape such loneliness?

You look to Lucina and give her a thumbs up. You suppose this means that she considers you a friend?

"Hah... this is such an odd feeling..." Lucina chuckles nervously. "But yes, I suppose we can call each other friends. We did take down a water elemental together, after all."

You give a nod of approval. Lucina had done plenty enough to earn your respect as a warrior and a comrade.

"And, well... I hope that you'd let me invite you and the rest of your party to the palace sometime." Lucina blushes slightly. "If that's okay with you."

You nod again. You don't see any reason not to.

Lucina then gives a loud yawn and slumps against you, clearly nodding off.

You get a bit of a devious idea as you pick up Lucina in your arms. You decide to carry her over and tuck her in beside Morgan... just to see what happens when they wake up next to each other.

It was an innocent enough curiosity, right?

As you tuck the passed out Lucina, you wonder what you should do next.

You decide to get a bit of rest yourself. Carefully so as not to wake either Morgan or Lucina, you take a chair and sit on it, making sure not to leave either girl's sight. You then lean back in the chair, stifling a yawn as exhaustion from all of the excitement today begins to take its toll.

Your eyelids, now heavy with fatigue, finally close.

All this stuff about wars and politics and bad manners, you could worry about tomorrow.

>And that's all for tonight! As always, next thread is next week. And don't forget Macross on Friday!
