Been a while, huh guys?

If you've kept up with my twitter at all the last... oh, what, year, two? You'll know the quick rundown, but here goes:

Since '89 finished I've mentioned wanting to run again, on and off. Well, since then, I've moved twice (Still in NC, but not in Fayetteville anymore), gone through two jobs, thought "Hey I could make a go of writing for money" only to see Pateron kill that with their greedy bullshit (cunts) and had some family shit go down (Grandpa died, grandma moved in with the folks). So. been a busy time.

We'll shoot for one run a week on Saturdays, but bear in mind the job I'm at now usually rocks five ten hour days and an eight hour Saturday- not that I'm complaining, I like the money- but it does mean we may be missing more runs than we used to for the fact I'm too beat to run, haha.

Anyway, let's see if we can get this party started again.

“Gladiator you’re at three quarters of a mile, call the ball”

The LSO sounds on edge as you make your approach with the USS Saratoga’s distinctive island and deck structure filling the sea in front of you.

“Roger. Gladiator has your ball”

They’d lost a fighter and it’s crew while taking aboard the aircraft of their air group at sea. That was less than two days ago- you’d been tapped as the replacement almost immediately. With tensions as high as they are on the Korean peninsula, starting a cruise one aircraft down would have been unacceptable to the navy, especially for their advanced showpiece carrier.

You’d barely had time to celebrate graduating advanced flight and type training and being awarded your wings and patch. Hell, you’d barely been in your first beer when you’d gotten the call to pack your shit and get to Almeda NAS, where you’d pick up your assigned bird and get your flight plan to join the Saratoga. The whole situation is unusual- but then again, nothing about your career has been usual.

You tend not to think about that as you follow the landing signal- the famous ‘meatball’, regardless of the changes it’s gone through over time- steady and level beneath you, thankful for the calm sea state. You try not to reflect on the fact that this is your first operational carrier landing. You did well enough at the NOLF off the Californian coast, and on the training cruises in the gulf of Mexico, but this is different somehow. More real.

At least, that’s the doubt that lurks you mind right up till you feel your landing gear slam into the deck, the sudden deceleration of the cable straining against the afterburner roar before you cut everything to idle.

>>
Flight ops on the deck are active- even now, you can see a pair of the so-called echocats- nearly thirty years old now- rolling forward to the bow cats, while one of the aircraft handlers directs you to a spot near an elevator before directing you to shut down. Rumor has it the venerable tomcat is in it’s twilight years, and is soon to be phased out. You doubt it, personally- the thing has a lot of noteriatey, and there’s proposals on the board that will keep it easily up to speed with the newest stuff coming on line.

He unlatches the built in ladder along the fuselage and climbs up once it’s locked down, helping you get all your straps undone. “Welcome aboard the Saratoga, sir!” He greets you in a shout, his head close to yours to be heard over the noise of the deck. “The CAG wanted to see you down in her office as soon as you got aboard!”

You nod- that doesn’t surprise you at all, honestly.

He drops down off the ladder shortly before you climb out of the cockpit, reaching down to grab your flight bag on the way out. You pause for a second at the bottom of the ladder, looking back up at your

[x] XFA-33
The Fenrir is a big aircraft- almost as big as a greyhound or sentry, and it shows. it’s also very much an elite showpiece assignment- and one you’ll never, ever get out of. Fenrir pilots are Fenrir pilots for the entirety of their careers, per naval doctrine. There’s less than thirty of them in the navy- one fewer, now, even- and they only go to the top graduate of advanced flight, usually about two a year. If that.

Part of you knows you shouldn’t be surprised you got one, part of you is still shocked you pulled it off- there was a lot of competition for the job.

The blue shirted aircraft handler waits patiently for you for a second before speaking. “This way, sir, I’ll show you where her office is.”

You nod, letting him open the hatch in the side of the island and close it behind you.

“Glad you made it when you did, sir.” He says, conversationally, motioning to you that it’s ok to pull your flight helmet now. “Rumor had it we’d be taking up whiskey point without a second fenrir onboard, and CAG wasn’t happy at all about that.”

You nod, following the man through the unfamiliar corridors of the ship. You’ve been aboard a carrier before, of course- you did a cruise aboard the coral sea, same as everyone else, in the T-45 Goshawks of the training squadron. Of course, the Fenrir is a different monster entirely.

It takes a couple minutes to make it to the CAG’s office, located in the island structure. The hatch is closed, but the plaque on it is kind of familiar- it simply reads “Cdr. Bishop, CAG”

“In there, sir.” He says, motioning.

You nod, knocking at the hatch twice. You have to wait almost a minute- you’re actually about to knock again when you’re told to enter.

Inside, the office is fairly dark and spartan- the only decorations you can see are a framed picture of the famed ‘eagle flight’ of VF-3- two wyverns and two ravens- in their wartime colors, and a degree from the USNA, similarly framed. Behind the desk sits a woman you’d guess to be in her mid twenties, if you didn’t know better, her auburn hair just barely long enough to cover her ears.

She looks up at you as you close the hatch and snap to attention, nodding once. “At ease.” She says, standing up, her flat expression unchanging. “Hello Morgan.”

[x] Commander

“Commander.” You respond, earning a slight softening of her expression- about as close to a smile as you’ve ever seen her get.

“What did they tell you before you left?” She asks- from anyone else, it’d be almost conversational.

“Not much.” You admit. “Just that I’d been tapped as a replacement and I’d receive my RIO aboard ship.”

She nods. “You will, just not yet. Garcia’s RIO went down with him.” She says, her voice betraying little emotion about losing a crew.

“What happened?” you ask, and she shakes her head.

“No telling, at least not yet. Looked like he flamed out on his port jet, stalled, and that was it. Not even time to eject. But we don’t know and you shouldn’t guess. His squadron won’t take it well.”

“My squadron, now.” You point out, and she nods again.

“That too. I’ll introduce you. Follow me.”

You step out of the office and back into the corridor, which seems deserted. She’s out a second behind you, closing the hatch behind her. “This way.” She says, simply, starting in the direction of the ladderwell. Looks like you’ll have time to ask a couple questions, if you want to.

[x] Ask her about the squadron

“What can you tell me about the squadron?” You ask as you follow her down to the hangar deck. The inside is packed with parked aircraft- mostly F/A-27s and F-14Es, with a handful of Wyverns and, back on the far side, the ship’s other Fenrir.

“They’re not taking it well.” She responds. “Don’t expect to be popular. Garcia joined them about ten years ago, he’d been there longer than most of them had.”

“Ten years? That’s a long time for a wolf driver.”

She nods. “He’d flown hornets before that, was one of the last pilots the navy converted to the Fenrirs from a standard type. There’s another flight crew in the unit, the other Fenrir, and four witches.”

“Only four?” you ask. She nods again.

“We haven’t operated at wartime staffing in a long time.” She points out. “Two steelwings and four witches is standard for a composite unit anymore, especially with the newer striker units we’ve got.”

You nod.

“They had a good wartime record.” She says, leading you through the hangar deck to another ladderwell near the bow of the ship. “And have kept a good record since then. I expect you to help them maintain it.”

“Of course.”

“They’re up on close patrol.” She says as you walk down the ladderwell another deck before getting off. “And I don’t know where their other Fenrir crew is. You’ll have to take the empty locker and draw linens for your rack on your own. Your squadron leader is Commander Kristen Piper. She’s been in for about ten years, but this is her first cruise as a squadron commander. She’s taking the loss particularly hard, don’t hold it against her.”

“I won’t.”

“Good. Here’s the squadron berth.” She says, opening the hatch to a fairly open room- Six racks, in three sets of two, are set along one bulkhead, while another six rest along the opposite. Each side has three lockers built into the wall, and there’s a table in the center of the room, bolted to the deck, along with four chairs. A flat panel TV hangs from an arm on the back bulkhead, an Xbox hooked to it. Otherwise it seems fairly empty- the curtains on each rack are thrown back, revealing unmade bedsheets, and two of the racks- the top and center on the left- are empty, their matresses uncovered.

Stasya looks at her watch before turning to leave. “The skipper is probably in her office, if you want to go see her. I don’t have time to walk you up there, but it’s up by the bridge, you can ask for directions. Drop your gear in the life support shop before you go up there, but she’s reasonable enough that she won’t chew you out for wearing your flight suit around the ship unless you’re grounded.”

You nod.

“You have any questions for me before I leave?”

“Do you know how long it should be before I get my RIO?” You ask. “It takes time to integrate a crew and-”

She nods. “I know, I’m plugged too. And I’m not sure. Best guess is we’ll have someone from the replacement pool later today or early tomorrow with the next greyhound flight. And before you ask, no, I don’t know who it is. But I’m sure your guess is the same as mine.”

“Yeah.”

“Well, at least you got along with them well enough that flying with one of them won’t be so bad.” She offers. “I have work to do. Get yourself squared away. And don’t forget to go see the skipper.” And with that, she leaves, the hatch clicking closed behind her.

You suddenly feel very out of place, standing in the empty squad bay with your flight bag in your hand. You start to notice the little personal effects on the racks- an Ipod on one, the headphones a tangled mess laying on top of a copy of “The Eagle of Alaska”. Another rack holds a battered teddy bear, one eye gone and the other replaced with a shining metal button that’s been worn smooth by age. A deck of cards and a couple witch comix copies sit on the table, while the Xbox controllers sit on top of the console, the athletic tape wrapped around them worn down by use.

The locker you pick- one of the two with the door hanging ajar- smells of Lysol, having probably been cleaned out shortly before you arrived. You stand there for a second after dropping your flight bag in there- your sea bag will follow you down shortly enough, once it’s unloaded from the cargo pod in your Fenrir.

It’s quiet in the bay, too much so for you.

[x]Go draw linens and shit from the supply office

Normally, bed linens would have been left folded on the foot of the rack, but you’re guessing that no one bothered to go replace the ones that would have been there in the short time since the accident.

It takes you a while to find the supply office- The Nimitz-class Saratoga, CVN-74 is significantly bigger and slightly harder to navigate than the Coral Sea was. Eventually you make your way to the supply office, located fairly closely to your squadron bay, thankfully enough.

The petty officer on duty in there looks you up and down, and manages to remain professionally bored as he hands you the requested sheets- two sets, since you figured you’d draw your RIO’s on the way down anyway.

“You’re Garcia’s replacement?” He asks, his voice rather neutral.

“Yeah.” You respond, tucking the folded sheets, in their packaging, under your arm.

He shakes his head. “He was a good guy.” He says, after a second. “Damn shame.”

“Do you know what happened?”

He shrugs. “I was off duty up on the island watching when he came in, yeah. He came in too low and too hot, started yawing like this” He says, using his hand to illustrate. “You could see him try to correct, but then he lost the centerline engine and you just heard this thud and nothing. Big old column of water came up just after that and they hit the sirens.” He shakes his head. “He was a good guy. Good luck with the squadron.”

“That bad?”

He shrugs again, the action seemingly one of the only ones he can make. “He’d been there a long time, most of them looked up to him like a father. Big boots to fill, even for a Bishop.” He says, reading the name plate on your flight suit, his eyes going kind of wide. Even now, twenty five years on, the Bishop name is a good one in the navy.

1/2
>>
“Laroux-Bishop.” You correct.

His eyes narrow as he looks at you again. “Laroux? You don’t mean-”

“The mother of night is my mom, yes.” You respond, used to the question by now. It was merry hell for you at Annapolis because of it too- with parents like yours you were expected to excel in everything you did.

He shakes his head and finally grins. “Ain’t you gonna be the popular one, then?” He says.

You’re mostly covered between this stuff and the stuff in your sea bag, so you shake your head.

“Well, if you think of anything, let me know.” He says, walking past you to open the hatch to the corridor.

You nod, stepping out back into the corridor in time to almost step into a pair of witches- identifiable by their conspicuous lack of pants, heading the same way down the corridor as you.

They both stop, looking at you and the linens under your arm- putting two and two together. Neither say anything and turn around to go back the way they came.

Morgan Leroux-Bishop (if I read that right earlier) on the other hand has high expectations put on him because of his parentage. He's obviously done pretty well, but is that because he's actually as good as people think, or does he push to meet those expectations?

He can't take too much after Maman, he's in the sky after all. But, y'know, maybe being able to go from friendly to terrifying is genetic.

We sleep with a sidewinder under our bed. And we swing it around like a baseball bat if we have to use it as a weapon.

I don't think that Wendy is still the maid though, you can't really clean very well when your pregnant.
>>

Well, also you know Brigitte showed her son how to use a knife.

This actually brings a question to my mind though, I don't really recalling it before, but are witches actually big on bloodlines? I mean, their abilities are hereditary seeming, but I don't recall if like they ever went out of their way to matchmake per say. They hold grudges, that's for sure. Do you think young witches are literally out there hunting for the seed of Laroux-Bishop?

[x] let it go- they just lost a guy they looked up to by the sounds of it and you’ve gotta give them time

You decide to let it go- they did just lose a guy, and you guess it’ll take them time to get over that enough to feel like you’re welcome. You’ve heard stories from your mother about when they’d lose someone and how it always felt like the replacement was intruding when they showed up, and weren’t worthy of sleeping in the same rack.

Of course, she always also pointed out that regardless of how they felt, they still had to fight alongside the replacement, and that eventually they were family, too.

Carrying the linens back to the squadron bay, you find them still empty. You put one set at the foot of the bottom rack, taking the empty top for yourself. It only takes a few minutes to make the bed and get it squared away.

Stepping back for a second to cast a critical eye over your work, you’re happy enough with it- it probably wouldn’t pass an inspection at Annapolis, but they tended to use calipers for measuring there, and more than once you got in trouble for being a sixty-fourth of an inch off. Personally, you felt you’d done damn good for having to eyeball it.

There’s a knock at the hatch that interrupts you- it’s standing open, so it’s someone that doesn’t belong here. You turn to find a seaman standing there with a seabag slung over his shoulder. “Lieutenant Bishop?” He asks- you nod without bothering to correct him. “This is yours, sir.”

He sets the seabag on the deck just inside the hatch, “Chief Williams would like to see you sir, when you get the chance.” he adds. “He’s on the hangar deck, they just moved your bird down there.”

He hesitates a second more before speaking again. “If you don’t mind, sir, what’s it like? Being plugged in, I mean.”
Plugged in, or even just plugged- the term for having the VDNI implants like you do- is a bit controversial. It’s almost never seen in the civilian world, and still very rare in the military. The newest generation implants, like yours, are smaller still than the earliest generation, more powerful and capable- and once they’re mated to a fighter, they’re extremely hard to get to work with anything else. In theory, they give you an unprecedented level of control over your aircraft.

In practice, though, you still use conventional controls more often than not, instead using the link to simply expand your situational awareness. Even the new models can’t eliminate the mental fatigue of controlling everything through the link, and, while you don’t deal with the migraines dad complained of occasionally, you do still use more than your fair share of aspirin.

[x] you’re indifferent- you knew what you were getting into when you signed the release forms.

You shrug. “I knew what I was getting into.” you say after a second.

He nods, seeming to accept the answer, such as it is, and turns to leave. He stops as he does so, shooting a glance your way, before stepping to the side of the passageway to allow two girls past- more witches. The first- a taller girl with a slim figure and short cropped silver hair stops for a second in the door when she sees you, while the other, a tall brunette, just glides past you, as if you aren’t there.

You give the silver haired girl a grin- kind of relieved to see her. “Hello, Ana.”

“Morgan?” She asks, sounding surprised. “Why- “ She shakes her head. “What are you doing here?”

“I think you know.” You respond, gesturing at the rack.

“Does mom know you’re here yet?”

You shrug. “She’s aware.”

Her eyes narrow. “You haven’t gone to talk to her yet, have you?”

You shake your head.

“Don’t be like that, Morgan.” She says, walking into the squad bay finally and starting to pull off her flight gear- unlike you, hers isn’t all controlled items, and some of it just stays with her. “You’re only our half-brother, but-”

“I’ve been busy.” You offer, cutting her off. “I only just got down about an hour ago.”

“you flew in?” She asks, and you nod. “San Diego?”

“JBLM. My bird is brand new.”

“So you took the Fenrir.” It’s not a question- she, like her mother, doesn’t necessarily like the VDNI hardware, and the fighter that requires it.

You don’t respond, just standing there.

She sighs, closing her locker and turning to face you again, walking over finally to enfold you in a hug- one you return. “I’m glad you’re here, Morgan. I really am. But I wish it could be under better circumstances.” Her shoulders slump for a second and she has to blink away tears. “C’mon, let’s go see mom.”

She doesn’t give you the option of saying no, instead grabbing you by the wrist and tugging you out of the room to follow her. It’s nice having one of your half-sisters here, kind of. You’re glad, though, that it’s not one of the snakes.

And that's it for the night!

I'm going to keep my options open re: Pateron, but at this point I don't expect that to go anywhere. That's alright, I kinda like my job, if I can get out ahead of the fabricators it'll be smooth sailing! haha. Course, we could go to war in Korea, but let's not get on that topic!

I'll answer any questions you guys have as long as it's not going to be a spoiler (this early, I can't imagine anything would be, but you never know). We'll shoot for one run a week, on Saturdays (Tuesday is out- I have to be up at 0445 to make it in on time right now, but maybe if and when we drop back to 40 a week we'll see what happens)

In the mean time, I hope you guys enjoyed the (short) intro here, we'll be playing through a bit more of Morgan's character in the next thread, and getting going again! I'm going to try and apply some stuff I learned since 89, so hopefully this all runs better and is more enjoyable overall for you guys!

Anyway, till next time gents!

1. Right around Morgan's 10th birthday- by that point it was clear enough and he was starting to ask questions.

2. Lilla is married, Stasya isn't and, if rumors are to be believed, never has.

3. Wendy is quite happy doing what she's doing! She's one of those irrepressibly happy people, and it's wondered how she can be so happy when she's clearly very lonley- lives alone, and when she's not on the road, she doesn't really have anyone to see, outside the Sharks and Joe.

>>2135569

Correct. Anya wanted to stay with Colonel Lee and work on his warbirds, and eventually agreed to be adopted into his family after no surviving records or family could be found. She's still there, in California, though the colonel is gone.

>>2135580

You'd have to ask them.

>>2135581

Very limited. the Fenrir is technically aerospace capable, but it's not SSTO. There's an 'advanced' shuttle program in operation, some larger stations in earth orbit, and a tiny research station on the moon. Musk has launched his first mission to mars, but there's no manned presence there- yet.

Ouch, I do hope Stasya will have someone like Ice's grandmother.

Stasya and Lilya are in their 30s, and neither have children yet. Frank keeps saying he's not old enough to be a grandfather yet. Lilya laughs at him when he does. He worries about Stasya never finding anyone though.

Wendy isn't seeing anyone, currently, and as far as anyone knows, hasn't ever.

about finding what out? He knew about Morgan- Maman wouldn't keep his son from him, even if she did keep her promise. He didn't exactly agree with her plan to keep his lineage quiet, but eventually agreed when she convinced him it'd make Morgan's life easier, at least in the short term.

The colonel's daughter did eventually marry, and inherited the ranch under the condition she also let her sister stay. Anya eventually did move- about 700 yards closer to the flight line, in a house built for her on site.

She's unmarried, but has a long term boyfriend in the shape of a CAF volunteer mechanic and airframe guy. No children. (She's... touchy, about sex)

Natalya is single.

>>
>>2135636

and who did Lilla marry, and Frank's reaction and did he put him through the wringer?
>>
Ah, I missed the whole quest! Good to see you running again, Ghost!

So what were the other fighters than the one we chose? What are their roles/capabilities?
>>
>>2135636
Did Anya suffered similar shit that Raikov did?
>>
>>2135638

Frank's married life is stable and happy, yes. A bit busy- several of the girls still live there when they're not on a cruise- but it's a stable, healthy home by most standards of measure.

Natalya is really very otherworldy and tends to freak potential mates out too badly to find one that sticks around. She chalks it up to people being weird, though, and doesn't waste too much time on it.

Lilya, perhaps predictably, married a pilot, and eventually moved to the east coast after she left the navy (He's still in). Frank didn't actually do much- he didn't have to, as the threat of three angry witchy mothers kept him on his absolute best behavior with her.

>>2135646

the F/A-02G is the Wyvern in current squadron service, where it's replaced the A-6 and F-14. it's the navy's primary high-performance multirole fighter, and incorporates most of the 'regular' improvements made to the Wyvern-Merlin during the war, plus about twenty five years of technological improvement since then.

The F/A-27 is a 3/5ths wyvern- it's smaller, lighter, and slightly less capable, but it's also cheaper and somewhat easier to mantain. it forms the bulk of the navy's multirole inventory, and replaced the Hornet almost entirely. It's a single seat aircraft.

>>2135649
Arguably worse.
>>
>>2135681

He does a bit, but his stance is 'if she's happy, then I can't complain'. Natalya, of course, even after all this time, is incredibly hard to read, so he's never sure.

They eventually learned to cook, Lilya eventually becoming quite good at it, while Stasya is capable of feeding herself and occasionally cooking something decent, but tends to not when she can avoid it.

Brigitte is considered an Aunt... one that Ice and Slider may be somewhat standoffish with, but it otherwise welcome to visit occasionally.

Anya isn't getting professional help for it, no. She considers it to be fairly minor, as does her boyfriend.

>>2135700

His biggest worries are the post-war flight of Russian witches and that the country's GDP is still rather small compared to the west.

As was stated in the epilogue, Rex has twin sons who (un)fortunately may have picked up his penchant for attracting younger witches. One decided to continue his parents tradition of serving in the Air Force while the other one ironically seems to be becoming one of the next big football stars.

In terms of his professional life, at this point Rex had finally been badgered into taking a commission after he got too old to continue field work. He works as a trainer for PJ recruits now.

So as someone who didn't see 89 through to the end, yet knows a good deal about modern military aviation, what should I know about the technology advancements that have been made? Clearly, we're in some sort of advanced fighter that we control through help of implants, but what is there beyond that? How have missiles advanced? Presence of lasers or other directed energy weapons? Railguns or the like? What fits on a plane? Are we just using a standard AMRAAM equivalent and a Sidewinder equivalent?

A fair few. They tend to cover all the major points in the war for frank- Alaska, Berlin, Crete, Poland. They do watch them when they come out, and tend to provide color commentary.

>>2135806
More or less. The AMRAAM is still in service, along with the Sidwinder replacement, the AIM-95D AGILE. Dogfighting has a much larger place in setting, due to the presence of witches- fighter on fighter combat tends to be very fast and very lethal as a result. DEWS and Railguns exist, but are in very limited use as both require a witch to operate.

The Fenrir you fly we'll get more in depth into next run!

After it's formation, the ROKAF inherited a lot of former IJN and IJA aircraft and equipment- stuff that had been assigned to Korean units or left there. They currently operate primarily tomcat E models, though they're also buying F/A-27s and working on their own indigenous fighter program. the North korean airforce operates largely chinese types, with a handful of fandances.

>>2136201

Well, prosthetic are just that- there's no augments yet. Most prosthetic devices aren't 100% capable replacements yet, but they're close- call it 95% of natural function at this point. the big one right now is that damage to the spinal column isn't necessarily a debilitating injury. VDNI is incredibly rare outside the military (and inside it as well- only the Fenrir requires it in USN service)- there were a few F1 racers that had it, before they were banned, but that's effectively it.

How did Natalya got adopted anyway. Wasn't she some top secret super witch?

And why did she choose frank? Or her logic?

Did she get along with status and Lilya because of their Russian bias?
>>
>>2136754

Well, the ship we're on is veritably crawling with relations all things considered - we've established two sisters on board, and since Ana said mom (and if I remember the end of '89 night) Ice is the skipper.

I'm going to guess there aren't any more sisters on ship, but given how Morgan expressed anxiety I would not be surprised if we also find a Snek-child on this boat. Which would be terrifying. Only slightly more terrifying than if there is a shark-cousin aboard.
>>
>>2136803
Yeah I think theres at least one snek on the boat, could be coincidence but I notice that theres a stuffed bear in the squadron berth - slider also had a stuffed bear.
>>
>>2136839

Alright, let's think about this logically. If we're going generation xerox here, the squadron should contain at least:

x1 Russian Princess (already seen)
x1 Snake
x1 of Maverick's adoptlets
x1 relative of Goose
x1 Katya-spawn
x2 Sherks
x1-2 Foreign national ads

I feel like we need a bingo card

And our new RIO is a test-tube superwitch grown by Merlin to protect the son of the house of Bishop.

So, Korea was part of Japan up till the early 90s- After that, the emperor granted them independence (While also taking as war reparations the rest of Sakhalin and part of the Kamchatka peninsula from the USSR.)

While, initially, Korea was united, a civil war in the middle 90's ended in the two state situation that exists IRL. the Norks are slightly better off- they still receive significant support from China- but the south Koreans are still considered to be the dominant force of the two.

However, North Korea (In setting) has been making a lot of noise recently about 'expelling the imperialists' in the south and reuniting the nation, and, as a result, the president has ordered two carrier battle groups to the sea of Japan, with Japanese blessing.

The family lives in a fairly large compound near Wildcat lake, Wa- The Sara is homeported out of Bremerton. However, they also have an apartment in Dallas (Frank works for chance-vought, which still maintains their plant there). They'd originally planned to get land in Wyoming, but that fell through when Tabitha got command of the Saratoga- they all agreed it was more important to them that she be able to accept the job, which meant moving closer to the base.

>>2137992

Ice's mom took it surprisingly well- she only met them after everyone but Ice had gotten out of the navy.

Slider's folks had had time to come to terms with it, though her mother is... skeptical, at best.

Katya's mother approved and is of the opinion that they are free to seek happiness however they want, and if this is how they're happy, who is she to judge? (To be fair, Katya got a lot of her habits from her mother...)

>>2138210 >>2138230

It varied. Katya expected it (And guessed Brigitte's son was Frank's from the day she learned he'd been born). She's fine with him- on pretty good terms, though she's less "mom" and more an aunt he's pretty close with. Slider was a little put out, but eventually got over it- afterall, Morgan was conceived before they were married, it's not like Frank was seeing other women. As far as she's concerned, he's the same as all the other kids in the house, with the exception that he's not always there. Ice... didn't take it well, but did eventually clam down. She accepts he's Frank's son, but that doesn't mean she's his mother, if that makes sense. (and no, she's not like that with the rest of the children- it's pretty much just Morgan)
>>
>>2139097

And she's probably the skipper...
...fuck.
>>
>>2139103

Eh, it's probably okay, so long as we don't be an asshole to her about it. Ice has the capacity to be professional and having to run an entire boat probably helps.

Of course Ice is also very protective of her loved ones so if we're flying with any sisters and get them in trouble we will be reminded why she was called "Ice".
>>
>>2139126
>why she was called "Ice".
Because she melts at any temperature above 32 Fahrenheit?
>>
>>2139126

As a seperate thought, some of this would also probably depend on how Morgan ends up as a pilot.

Early "wardog" Frank flew like he was trying to prove something, we were aggressive, focused and confident in victory due to the combined Merlin+Frank team. This always freaked Ice out a lot.

Later Revenant/Eagle Frank we learned some lessons, I think it would be accurate to say we were flying to protect something. We tried to be more aware of the bigger picture and take less risks, but at the same time if the choice was between something risky to us vs something risky to allies (usually loads of them) we always busted our ass to help friendlies.
>>
>>2139129

Ice is very much the professional. And it's not necessarily that she hates Morgan, or even really just dislikes him- she's just not his mom.

>>2139247
Pity that particular route is forever closed to you.

>>2139539
there were some... heated words. It's long since calmed down.

Slider's parents are fine with it, and actually do visit pretty often (the one set of in-laws that does so, actually- Ice's mom doesn't very much and Katya's mom can't very often)

Ice didn't really meet Morgan till she found out- prior to that, he lived exclusively with Brigitte.

>>2139682
Arkbird was up during 89. SOLG probably won't go up, to be honest.

And pretty excite, I may cop a PS4 or something for it after december.

>>2139695

>>2139705
>And it's not necessarily that she hates Morgan, or even really just dislikes him- she's just not his mom.
Honestly that almost seems sadder. I mean, it's literally true, but it ties into an old bit of wisdom. The opposite of love isn't hate. It's indifference.
>>
>>2139705
Where does Bridgette live? For some reason I'm imagining a swamp like Dagobah from star wars.

>>2139720
Your right...that seems a bit cruel but it is true though maybe we might need more context to see how that relationship works.

>>
>>2139705

So it's kind of like it was all the way back in the start of '89 - Ice is our boss first. Only with sexual tension replaced with familial dysfunction and a hint of nepotism.

So, anybody else think it's ironic we immediately decided Morgan should be more calm, level-headed and even professional and Ice is the one we are probably least close with?
>>
I'll field more stuff tomorrow evening guys!

I've already busted my sleep period. oh well. guess five hours is good enough, haha!
>>
I mean, I don't really see much wrong with Ice's attitude. Ten years old is a hell of a late start to any familial feelings, and she's not wrong- she isn't our mom. That's about how old my half-sister is, and my uninvolved parent is pretty much just as detached from them even with knowing who they were from the start. More than a fair stance on her part.

Questions for answering: Did Ice ever make an attempt to be motherly to Morgan or did she always treat him with casual indifference/blatant favoritism towards the daughters.

How does the rest of the cabal feel about how Ice treats Morgan?
>>
What's Morgan's romantic history like?
>>
>>2139724
Maman Brigitte has a wonderful antebellum period mansion outside New Orleans, along with a suite in the Maman's house in the state capitol of Baton Rouge. As far as it goes Morgan spent a lot of his formative years in the care of other witches there in the state house- and stayed there quite a bit after Maman left the navy for her position with the bayou covens. He travels quite easily in the witchy world, as it were.

And it never became a thing- except inside the witch community. Morgan's real parentage was guessed at for some time- Maman promised to never tell before Frank did, but sometimes a smug cat witch is a smug cat witch.

>>2139760

Yeah. So, about that pateron, thing... haha!

>>2140575

That might make for some interesting character building, but I think it'd take up too much space here.

>>2140681
Ice tried, for awhile- it was pretty clearly a strained attempt, and probably ended up doing more harm than anything else. The situation they've got now is... amicable at least- She doesn't hate him- she's even on relatively friendly terms with him. But she's also made it clear- she's not his mom, and neither expects nor intends to act like she is.

>>2140788
haha!
>>
>>2141235
So what was the reaction within the Witch Community, I'm sure it was a relatively big thing since they can test whether its genetic now that they have a male specimen since IIRC Ice basically shut that shit down when the matrons implied she try again.

How is Morgan's relationship with Frank? I'm sure he tried to be a good father but considering the difference in houses, other daughters, and work it must have been difficult.

>That might make for some interesting character building, but I think it'd take up too much space here.

I'm quite interested in that info myself, like her thought process in crashing and being adopted by Frank, and the experience of having a large (unorthodox) family. and fellow adopted siblings.

Does Jess and Kasumi have kids?

Also does Slider's kids fuck with their boyfriends or each other by pretending to be the other? Can Frank tell them apart? Now that I think about it, are they the rebellious 'Fuck you dad' type or inwardly a Daddy's girl.

>haha!

He grew up in a world of witch politics and inside a coven, his puberty must have been a bitch.
>>
>>2141235
I would like to see some character building from Natalya if it's possible.

Mav and Young haven't changed their names, no.

Guardians did experience a bit of a renaissance, especially stateside post war. Eventually, though, there were a set of old codes dug out about the position that saw most of the American 'guardians' stripped of the title by the mid 90s (Frank kept his- granted to him, as it was, by the Headmatron London). The old codes were adapted into a modern international standard- and are based on the same codes used to justify Frank's title.

Not many, actually. Frank's on the MoH wall at Annapolis, of course, and the academy's integrated flight program is named after him, but other than that, not really.

>Hard to call it a date when a 6foot 4 inch viking looking witch rolls in with another 6 hard looking women, finds you, nods gravely at you- with your date watching, and then proceeds to sit three rows behind you at the theater.

Sounds like a standard Bishop date to me, I mean Frank did albeit his little hoard of kids were three rows behind.

any one of Frank kids are gay? like Jess?

What exactly in Patreon's policy ruined Ghost's chances of profiting from writing?
>>
>>2143771
There was an attempt at changing the scaling fee that would have turbofucked low pledge amounts, which in general began to drive people away from patreon on principle. Fortunately Patreon decided to not go forward with that change due to massive, massive patron and creator backlash.
>>
>>2143319
the other four snakes all go on the same date to fuck with their sister, while dad and the others sit in the back with the amazons.

statistically, one in ten people are gay. Frank has 11 or 12 kids. so at least one or two, probably.
>>
>>2143771
Basically, it screwed over low dollar value patrons and did some other dumb shit.

So what Patreon did previously was it would take all the money that a given Patron gives through the platform a month, total that up, and send you a check for that amount of money total, and then take 5% off that for its cut. For example, let's say I gave 10 different Creators a dollar a month (or have someone putting out multiple things a month that each generates a charge, which all adds up to $10). At the end of the month, Patreon would bill me $10, and take 5% of that total, or $0.50. It's nice, simple, and really, the 5% fee isn't really that bad. Each Creator would receive $0.95.

What Patreon wanted to change to was a different system. Now, each time someone does something worthy of payment, or whenever you sign up to a monthly support, you will be given the bill right then and there. That would be a bit of a pain in the butt, but that's not the problem. They then wanted to switch from taking 5% off the bill to 2.9% PLUS an additional $0.35. So let's go back to my "give 10 people 10 dollars" example from earlier. Now, the fee Patreon has grown. With the new billing system, each payment of a dollar would have $0.029 (rounded up to .03) plus the $0.35. That means out of that dollar, Patreon is now taking $0.38. The Creator is only getting 62 cents of that dollar I gave them. Considering QMs probably will be mostly subsisting on small donations, it would take a significant portion of their income stream.

Now, the newly proposed payment system has the Creators getting a lesser percentage of the money you get them all the way up to payments of essentially $20. I can't see anyone really giving their favorite QMs more money than that a month, let alone giving it per thread, as at least planefag wanted to do, not sure about Ghost's plans.

So yeah, it was a fucked thing for them to do, glad it's not going through, it would have SCREWED most Creators, as they rely on large numbers of Patrons giving small amounts of money. It completely goes against the core idea of the platform, which was to let people with a rather limited amount of excess cash pool their money to keep the creators of their favorite content able to live, and possibly even go full time.

Even if we assume it's an accurate statistic, it's still a dumb conclusion. Sexuality is fucking complicated, with numerous factors going into it. You won't have one gay person in every group of ten random people, because that's not how statistics work.
>>
>>2143875
>>2143960
fair enough. kept hearing that statistic coming up during the gay marriage debate here.

plus 1 in 10 is a really small sample size to begin with.
>>
>>2143792

There was a very niche case where it was not fucking people over, which is if you require payment upfront, and you're monthly, if someone like, signs up on the 30th to qualify for one month's worth of perks and then it rolls over to the 1st, they were double-charged, and this would allow them to track and charge based on the day you signed up, not a calendar month, but it really fucked up way too much shit to be worth it.
>>

Semi-standard. Keep in mind, he also spent plenty of time with his mother. Brigitte wasn't overprotective by any means- her philosophy was if you knew what you were getting into, have fun, you're only young and carefree once.

seems like this board is slower than /tg/ used to be- and I'd rather burn up a thread fully rather than make another if we can. If we get two weeks out of a thread with a slow burn Q/A going on, that'd be pretty swell, haha!

So, news. I'll be headed to Nebraska with the first building of this project tomorrow, so I'll be updating a bit on the laptop over the week, but don't expect too much out of me. Pateron backed down, so I'm back on that again- if you're interested in me doing this full time (up to four times a week) I'd like to know!

No news other than that!

The captain is in her office when Anastasia finally drags you up to the island structure.

Your half-sister knocks on the door- a wooden one, not metal as most of the rest on the ship are- and waits only for a second before Tabitha- her mother- responds. “Ana.” She says.

“Guess who I brought” your sister says as she leads into the room, somewhat superfluously- afterall, you walked in right behind her, and are standing at parade rest.

Tabitha smiles at the gesture, setting her pen down on her desk and taking off her glasses. “Go ahead and secure that hatch, Ana. Good to see you Morgan. How's your mother doing?”

“She's fine, Ma'am.” You respond- you're not sure of the rules regarding your conduct here, but being respectful never hurts. And last you'd heard, your mother was in her element- playing political games to maintain the bayou coven's independence from the growing American coven. It's a game she's played for a long time- at least since you were four or five, at least.

Tabitha laughs.

“Among us, in private, Tabitha is fine, Morgan.” She says. “On duty is different, of course, or out on the ship, but in here, don't worry about it so much.”

You nod.

“I'll have to tell your father you made it. He was disappointed you didn't select the Tomcat.” She laughs again. “Of course, he refuses to believe the navy is retiring them.”

She sits back in her chair, indicating the others in the office- Anastasia has already claimed one, leaving one for you. “So you might be wondering about a few things. On the ship, you can call me Captain Bishop, Stasya is Commander Bishop. We try to eat a family dinner at least once a week- you're of course expected to come.”

You nod, hiding your frown- You're family, sure, but Tabby's never gone out of her way to make you feel like it.

“One of our two Fenrirs is always on alert.” She continues. “Right now is a bit different, since Garcia's crash cost us one, but you're the alert Pilot as soon as your RIO arrives.”

1/2
>>
“When are they expected in?” You ask.

“Soon- with our next greyhound flight in fact. I just got off the line with the Admiral.” Tabitha responds. “Sometime today. Anastasia, how's the squadron? Do I need to come see them?”

Your sister shakes her head. “No, mom. They're sad, but it's nothing we can't get through.”

Tabby's eyes narrow. “Ana, are you covering for them?”

“No, mom.” Your sister insists. “We'll be fine. Stacy and I were just fine on the flight today, and Kat and Jessie are still up there. We'll all miss Rod and Lillian, but we'll be ok.”

Tabitha nods again, turning towards you. “What about you, Morgan? You flew in from Almeda?”

“Via JBLM, yes.” you confirm.

“JBLM?” Tabby asks- Joint Base Lewis-McChord, in Washington state, is also the closest air base to the Boeing factory- and where the majority of the depot-level work on Fenrirs is done.

You nod. “She was in cold shutdown when I got her, so we had to go to JBLM to start up the combat computer and begin interface.” You leave out the details of the flight- the Fenrir is not an easy aircraft to fly without the link, and the weather this time of year didn't help.

She makes a face at the terminology- Tabby is one of the old school witches and pilots that distrusts and dislikes the VDNI system.

“Where are you at in that process?” She asks.

You shrug. “Not very far. Maybe twenty percent? You can't do much integration with half a crew. I did what I could on the way in.”

She nods. “Well, your RIO should be in soon. I'm sure you have a guess as to who it is.”

[x] One of Aunt Merlin's girls?

“One of Aunt Merlin's girls?” You ask- already knowing that Tabitha is going to confirm it.

She nods. “Good guess.”

Inwardly, you sigh. Aunt Merlin's girls aren't exactly an issue professionally- both of them are incredibly talented in their fields, and take after their parent's genius- but both of them are a bit too interested in you. Or were, anyway, last time you saw them, shortly before you graduated.

It's kind of surprising, really- their mother is quiet and tends to be very focused on her work, her true passions being technology and fighter aircraft. Almost everything operated by the navy owes something to her, from avionics to airframe or the turbines or weapons they're equipped with. The Fenrir- your aircraft- is almost entirely down to her work on the prototype operated by your father and her during the war.

Kim- the eldest- is just as talented as her mother with fighter aircraft power plants, airframes, electronic warfare systems, and missiles- almost better, if she's to be believed. She's also incredibly possessive of you, and you cannot fathom why. It's not like you've ever returned the sentiment towards her- she's far too young for you to have any kind of romantic feeling for, and even then- she's kinda just not your type.

Chris, the younger, is incredibly good at diagnosing problems on the fly and jury rigging equipment, not to mention her skill with guns, sensor systems, and computers- better than her mother with computers, even. But she seems to think the two of you are destined to be togther- and she's all of thirteen. It's pretty uncomfortable.

“So which one is it?” Ana asks Tabby.

“Kim.” Tabitha says, looking over at you.

“Ew.” Anastasia responds, screwing up her face to show her distaste for the younger girl. “Shouldn't she be just starting her academy time anyway? She's what, thirteen?”

Tabitha nods. “This is her apprentice cruise.”

“They're sending her to a Fenrir crew for her apprentice cruise?” you ask, surprised.

“Is that a problem?” Tabitha responds, looking at you in a way that makes it clear this is business- not just a friendly chat anymore.

You shrug. “Kind of. Crews are integrated. It's... difficult to get used to a new crewmate after you've been flying with someone. The Fenrir doesn't like it either.”

“How badly would it affect you when she goes back to the academy for her last years?”

“Hard to say. I'm only familiar with the effect from training, what they taught us. I haven't experienced it myself.”

“So you could work through it?”

[] Probably, but Dad and Aunt Merlin have never flown with anyone else since the end of the war
[] I'm not sure. I don't know enough about the effect to say.
>>
>>2151899
Here's doylist answer: that's a choice you're going to make when writing a distant sequel to a story with major inventions. You either slow down the rate of technical advancement and societal impact of the new tech, or get a setting that's completely different from the original, and probably less interesting for your audience. For example, if SWQ (the original one or 1989) or Jurassic Park or Tron or War Games happened twenty years ago, our world would be massively different.

Your half-sister shrugs. “Maybe? I don't think either of them has ever flown with anyone else.” She says. “And they were paired off early in their careers too.”

“We'll have to keep it in mind then.” Tabitha says. “I'm sure it's got to do with internal politics, but let's not speculate. You're squared away otherwise, right, Morgan?”

You nod.

“Good. Your squadron commander ordered your squadron's ground crew to get your fighter turned around, but we'll be leaving it on the hangar deck until you've had a chance to get it combat ready. How long do you estimate it will take to... integrate? Completely.”

“No more than twenty hours.” You say- the exact figure from the book. “Less, probably, because my GIB is a Wells.”

“So two days.”

You nod. “Probably.”

“Alright. Get working on that as soon as you can. Is there anything you need to do other than that?”

You shrug. You do still need to unpack your personal effects, such as they are, and find a chance to get down to the phones and call your mother, whom you'd promised to contact as soon as you were wheels down on the Saratoga. You'd like to go meet your ground crew at some point- and you should probably see about meeting the rest of your squadron at some point soon.

“I did promise mom I'd call.” you allow, with a slight smile- Tabitha and your mother didn't often see eye-to-eye on a lot of things, and is probably part of the reason she didn't much care for you when you started visiting your dad, years ago.

Frankly, it's just as well, you think- you honestly can't imagine trying to live in that house with three 'moms'. Rachel is more than enough.

Tabitha nods. “There ought to be a phone in your squadron bay.” She says, looking over at Anastasia, who nods.

“Yeah, and it's going to be free. We don't really use it a lot.” She says. “Plus it means I can help introduce Morgan to the rest of the unit.”

“Sounds good. Dinner tomorrow, don't forget.” Tabitha says as you stand along with your half-sister to leave.

“Ok, see you then, mom.” Anastasia responds, ushering you out of the office and closing the door behind her.

“So. Kim Wells.” Anastasia says. “That's going to be fun.”

“Yeah.” You agree. “Loads.”

She laughs a little. “It could be worse, at least she's just possessive and not totally in love like Chris.”

“Ana, she won't let me out of her sight when she's around.” You point out. “And she tries to keep me completely away from other people.”

“Yeah, but at least she doesn't tell everyone she meets that you two are in love.” She responds. “Besides, it's just her apprentice year cruise. It's not like she's your crew forever.”

Your look says enough- your sister laughs.

“Ok, fair enough.” She admits. “The navy is probably going to have you two flying together for the rest of your careers if they have their way.”

“Navy hell.” you say.

Ana laughs again. “Welcome to the family, bro.” She says. “Witch politics are just part of the name.”

“I had to be dad's only son.” you grump a bit- You know that's a large part of the small things like this that happen. Any other Fenrir driver in the navy would be estatic to have a Wells in back- Aunt Merlin is practically a legend.

Anastasia laughs again, but doesn't respond otherwise.

The squadron bay is empty when you two return to it- apparently, the other witch left as quickly as she came. Ana shakes her head at that. “Becca and Garcia were pretty close. She's not going to be easy to deal with.”

You shrug- not really your problem.

“Don't be mean, Morgan.” She says. “Mom says after Dad went down in Alaska the unit wasn't even combat capable for days. I'm going to go find her, see if I can talk to her some. Go ahead and call aunt Brigitte.”

You nod as she leaves, walking over to the phone and ringing up an outside line and trying the house. It rings three times before it's picked up.

“Laroux residence!” An accented voice responds.

“Lizbeth.” You say to your younger sister- who, you know, was probably hoping for a call from a boy, if not quite you. “Put maman on de phone.”

“Morgan! You wait a minute, I'll go get her.” She says- agreeing almost suspiciously quickly.

It's only a second before your mom picks up. “Morgan!” She exclaims. “My bebe boy. How your flight to de carrier bein? Dat plane any good?”

“Of course, mama.” You say, smiling a bit as you picture her. “De flight was fine.”

“Good. You be seein your daddy's girls?”

“Stasya an Anastasia.” You confirm for her.

“An dat Tabitha, she be de skipper?”

“Oui maman.”

“You be good, boy.” She warns- She always did feel Tabby was a bit too rigid about rules and regs. “Don be no need to be gettin in trouble wid her.”

“Speakin of trouble, Lizbeth seein a boy again?” You ask, grinning.

“She bettah not be.” Your mother responds. “But I be talkin wid her jus de same. She too young to be doin dat- and I'm too young ta be a granmaman, boy.”

You laugh. “Oui Maman”

“I'm not jokin, Morgan.” She says. “You be havin fun, but you be rememberin who you are and what dem girls be wantin.”

“Maybe dey jus tink I'm good lookin?” you ask.

“Ya are good lookin, boy of mine.” Your mother responds. “good enough ya got dat Wendy askin after ya again. But you be careful jus de same dere. Dem girls on them ships, dey maybe be lookin to pass de time a bit different dan on land, and ya don't no be needin to be getting none o dem in a family way.”

“Oui Maman. I'll be careful.”

“Bon.” Your mom says.

[x] Ask her about Wendy asking after you- it's not exactly news, but it's kind of unusual.

“Wendy be askin aftah me?” You ask after a second of silence. “What she be askin?”

Your mother laughs. “What you tink, boy? Same ting she be askin aftah for de las couple months. Ya apparently be showin her someting special on dat 'date' ya be takin her on."

"Maman, we only went to de movies." You say. "An only cos she be askin me aftah her show."

Your mother laughs at you. "You be doin what ya need ta to have fun, boy." She says. "But you be careful wid dat Wendy. She be followin yer daddy through anyting he wanna lead her through, but she do no be lookin at him like she look at you. You bes keep in mind ya be wantin to fool wid her, she almos twenty years older dan you an dat you de only man she ever done had on a date like dat."

"oui maman, I know." You respond- though, in fairness, she doesn't look it. You'd have figured her for maybe- Maybe- twenty six, twenty seven, tops.

"Ya be aboard anyway, boy." Your mom points out. "An you do no need ta be bringing dat drama into a squadron that done already los one o it's pilots. You be de new one, don't you forget it."

"Oui, Maman."

"I'll be passin back to Wendy ya be askin back after her. Maybe she do you a bit of good." Your mom says- you can practically see her grin as she does so. "Be keepin ya out o trouble anyway, dey tink you two be an item. Your daddy be makin sure don nobody be playin games wid her though, you bes be careful bout dat too."

"Oui, Maman."

"Now you done heard enough o yer maman. You be good, boy, you call me when you get to your firs port o call, ya hear? I do no be hearin from ya, maybe I be comin to find ya myself."

"Oui, Maman. I'll call."

"Make sure dat you do. An if ya find yourself in Japan, you go see your aunt, she be anxious to see ya again. Be sure to dress nice for her, you hear?"

You sigh. "Oui, Maman."

"Now. Your maman is gonna go talk to your sister bout talkin to dem boys she do no be needin to talk to. You be good an you mind your manners wid Tabitha. You call me later."

"Oui, maman."

"Your Maman loves you, boy. An I'm proud o you. don you forget dat." She says, right before hanging up.

"You sure do say Oui maman a lot." Anastasia opines from her spot on her rack- you didn't hear her come back in.

You shrug. "Sometimes it's easier to just say yes mom."

She laughs. "The rest of them will be in soon." She says. "I talked to them some, but don't expect them to fall all over you."

"So don't expect this to work like dad."

She shrugs nonchalantly. "It took him a couple years before Mom begged him to tie her up."

"I didn't need to know that."

She grimaces. "At least you didn't walk in on them."

she's got a point, there. at least you don't have to live with that particular image the rest of your life.

Morgan and Frank get along pretty well- Morgan's more distant with Frank than he is with Brigitte, having grown up mostly with his mother. Of course, there's the professional awe of what his father got up to during the war, but that's hardly limited to Morgan.

You'll meet most of them in time!

Morgan and Natalya get along quite well, actually. They're both very similar- quieter and more withdrawn than the rest of their siblings (similar to Stasya in that regard).

How many of thoses exes were after the Gnome gene?

Is Goose single?

So who was the person that knocked up Bridgette ? Is he around to support the daughter?
>>
>>2159562
After Morgan? Quite a few. It's part of the reason he's more reserved than his father. In fairness, most of them were good to him, but after the first couple passed through his life, he slowly stopped trying to connect with them on any real level. Meeting Frank and the rest of his family helped, but by then the 'damage' had been done.

Goose? Well, you'll just have to see, won't you!

What, Elizabeth's dad? Maybe you'll meet him!
>>
>>2159586
I wonder how the other military services use sparklies. Does the navy use them to make giant shields to protect ships? does the army have integrated tank crews or do they still do tank strikers? does the airforce have any witches doing nuclear stuff in STRATCOM? (or does the UN still handle that? then how do they use witches?) alot of military doctrine must have changed since 89.
>>
>>2159562
Who's Goose?
>>
>>2159586
What did we do on the date that made Wendy like Morgan?

How lewd is Natalya and Wendy?
>>
>>2159652
The army tends to use witches in SPECWAR roles and with integrated tank crews. Tank strikers still exist, of course, but witches as independent units are almost entirely limited to the company level. (And there's not that many of those, and all of them are assigned to the XVIII Airborne corps or rangers)

The Navy prefers to use witches in either composite or all-witch squadrons, but there are a few witches, especially on the larger ships that function as part of the crew or operate specific, witch-reliant systems. There is also a witch NAVSPECWAR unit, but there's not many of them.

The USAF Fields most of their witches in all-witch squadrons. They never took to composite units or crews the same way the navy did. They do have witches in the STS, but again, not very many of them.

The USMC's witches are what you'd call 'strategic special forces'. During the 90s, they underwent a massive change of doctrine, and as such, all USMC witches are equally qualified with aero or tank strikers. They're deployed as 'squadrons' exclusively, though some USMC witches do operate with USN composite units (and crews...). MARSOC has a handful of witches, but less than 10 total.

the USCG's witches are both incredibly few and number and very highly trained specialists. They're entirely employed in interdiction and patrol roles in witch-only units.

Natalya does not know what lewds are. Wendy does, but doesn't (and hasn't) really do anything lewd.
>>
>>2159755
>The USAF Fields most of their witches in all-witch squadrons. They never took to composite units or crews the same way the navy did. They do have witches in the STS, but again, not very many of them.

Interesting. Is it because the airforce just wants homogeneous squadrons for logistical reasons or is there some other doctrinal reason? do they still have witches work with conventional planes on actual combat missions together as a single package or do they keep them completely separate?
>>
>>2159755
What abut Stasya?

>Natalya does not know what lewds are

I don't know why but Natalya is starting to worry more, especially considering who she lives if we take Ana's account at face value.

Also now that I think about it, does Lilya's husband have noseart of her in a Playboy bunny outfit considering her familar or Frank and co will shut that shit down.
>>
>>2159755
Are systems like the Wyvern-Merlin now limited to the Fenrir crews or are they also present in other Wyvern crews?

Are the witch reliant systems on the larger ships similar in concept if not execution to the systems on Stalin's Shield, or are they more like ship level Wyvern-Merlin systems?

Did mixed Pararesque units never catch on?

Are Strikers all variable nowdays or do traditional Strikers still exist?

Any reason the VDNI didn't catch on as a replacement for traditional controls?

What kind of armament is the Fenrir capable of hauling?

So with Kim and Chris and their talents it's just that they're not as good as Merlin/each other outside of their respective talents, not that they can't do it at all?

This might be more of a Merc question but how does Morgan get along with Rex, Ghost and their kids?

We never did find out but what is Brigette's power?

>Any reason the VDNI didn't catch on as a replacement for traditional controls?
Well if I had to guess, it would probably be something involving one of the test pilots almost killing another pilot during testing due to a stray thought leading to a midair collission.
>>
>>2160287
>Did mixed Pararesque units never catch on?
There are quite a few, but obviously they are still pretty rare since most witches opt for full combat roles. A lot of Pierce's later career was (and still is) dedicated to expanding these units.

>Any reason the VDNI didn't catch on as a replacement for traditional controls?
VDNI, even in its sleeker, more streamlined iteration is still a very invasive operation and there's no guarantee that the recipient will ever be able to fully adjust to it.

>This might be more of a Merc question but how does Morgan get along with Rex, Ghost and their kids?
Rex is basically the cool, but quiet uncle. He doens't really hold the fact that Morgan is essentially Frank's illegitimate son against him considering how... unique Frank's family situation is. But it's also that same unique situation that prevents Rex from being able to properly connect with Morgan since he doesn't really know how to approach it.

Ghost doesn't really mind Morgan at all, and given her SpecOps connections, often acts as an extra pair of eyes for Brigette.

Their sons Duke and Robert treat him like any other cousin. Duke is a bit more distant since he has no interest in the military. Robert is an PJ like his father was and often jokes that he looks forward to day he pulls Morgan out of the fire.

>>
>>2159822
Witches do still work alongside steelwings, typically in the air superiority role. And the USAF operates them like that primarily for logistical reasons, yes- it's easier to move witch units all over the place and operate them from forward airbases, as an example.

>>2159837
>>2159837

stuff pioneered on the Wyvern-Merlin is present both in the conventional arm and the composite crew aircraft- though the magical systems are only seen on the fenrir.

Strikers are mostly variable these days, though conventional units exist, predominantly in land-based witch units.

The Fenrir is a scary beast, you'll learn about it soon. (Maybe not this weekend though!)

Kim and Chris are better than their mother in their respective specialties, and worse than she was outside of them.

No, you never did learn that, did you? haha!

Possibility of maybe running a slow boil over the week/weekend? 1-2 Story posts a day?

Huh, I bet Lilya broke a lot of hearts by the time she got engaged.

Now that I think about it, how is the family relationship between the adopted (Staslya, Lilya and Natalya) and the rest of Frank kids?

So how is Chris taking to the news that she won't be with her beloved? Not well I take it? Or better yet Kim's reaction when she found out she's the new RIO.

Also how did Mav and Young react that Frank had a son, since they didn't believe Frank slept with her back at Barin.

Does Ice and Wendy look any different since the 25 years since we last saw her?

Also how old is Elizabeth?
>>
>>2161411
I don't mind this at all. Gives us something to look forward to.

Oh man. Imagine this(>>2134752) as an Ara Ara~

Is Lilya's husband a F-27 driver or an XF-02G driver? Or is he a Fenrir pilot?
>>
>>2160862
Doesn't seem like Morgan really knows how to approach it either.

>>2161390
So what I'm getting is that Morgan maintains a level of emotional distance from everyone except Lizbeth and Brigette.

>>2161390
Is the stealth and data fusion revolution taking place now? Or did Merlin change the course of air combat history with the magitech stuff like the missile storage pods thing? Are we seeing networking at the same degree as IRL? It's been a long time but IIRC there were F-117s, so Have Blue and the stealth stuff definitely happened.

Well, I made it through. What a ride. I haven't been that invested in anything in years. I love your writing ghost, especially your characters, they all feel like fleshed out people. Here's to another 150+ threads!
>>
>>2161411
Unlikely. Keep in mind, right now, I'm working 10-12 a day on the usual weekday. It's a possibility if I find a much better gig (which I'm unlikley to) or hours drop, but we'll see what goes on.

>>2161457
In a lot of ways, she did. Lilya was by far the more famous of the two girls- she's inheritor to a pretty big fortune (Which was released to her upon her 18th birthday- and she's got a spot with Weiss Aerospace on the board of directors if she wants it).

She turned into a charming young lady, and by 20 she'd have had her pick. That she ended up married to a pilot didn't surprise anyone, though.

The three adopted girls are just part of the family- Natalya is a bit more distant, but that's because she's always like that, and has nothing to do with her being adopted. The three adopted girls are also the only ones that don't really treat Morgan as a 'half' brother, either.

You'll have to see about Chris....

A bit of surprise, but not a lot of surprise- both of them heard she'd had a son, and both of them pretty well knew who that son belonged to as soon as they heard.

A bit older, perhaps, but certainly not their age. Witches tend to use cosmetic magic more heavily- so, for example, wendy looks like she's probably somewhere in her mid 20s, at the oldest. Ice doesn't focus on it nearly as much, and looks to be in her early 30s.

Lizbeth? She just turned 16.

>>2161514
He's a wyvern pilot with an Atlantic fleet squadron.

>>2161938
That's fairly accurate.

>>2162216
Kind of. Merlin's done a lot, but so has the presence of witches from day one. Stealth and data fusion are both ongoing- the Wyvern-Merlin, for example, could datalink with an entire theater in 1990 to get a comprehensive picture of everything in a thousand miles, if they needed to. However, most air combat focuses around maneuverability and the ability to dogfight- witches skew the priorities.

>>2165635
Thanks! We'll see if it goes that far, but I'll sure try!
>>
>>2166134
So Morgan is closer with Natalya, Stasya and Lilya than he is with the rest of his siblings?

Have we ever met Lilya's husband?
>>
>>2166229
We haven't- we missed the last family gathering they were at.

And for the most part, yes. He's pretty tight with Elizabeth too, though- but she's totally unrelated to the Bishop clan. The girls tend to view her as a cousin of sorts, though.

So how has Illena's wedding ring ?

Kind of a high benchmark to top that or did Frank not try (as hard)

Unless he made wing out of the plasteel from his chest which I can see that happening.

And I'm sure the men and woman who were after lilya were heartbroken. Though do her and stasya still do the empty glare thing?
>>
>>2166804
Frank didn't try as hard as Ice's grandfather did- plus any real effort would have had to have either been done three times or been made different but equal (Functionally impossible, if you think about it). All three witches got identical rings- all of them bought from a jeweler.

lilya's ring was impressive, if rather conventional.

Stasya does, Lilya doesn't really need to.
>>
>>2167065
What made Lilya's ring impressive?

Also how did the Pilot managed to snag Lilya or was it the other way around?

Does Frank like having a son-in-law now?

Are skintight pilot suits an acceptable replacement for not wearing pants for witches these days? Have we seen our half-siblings in them?
>>
>>2167115
It had a lot of diamonds, and some of them fairly large.

No, he wooed her. His courtship game was strong enough to end up with her, is all. Nothing really special about it- he took her on enough dates she enjoyed enough that eventually, when he proposed, she was in love enough that she said yes.

If frank doesn't approve anymore, he doesn't say anything, but he's probably the most aware of the danger facing his son in law- being a carrier aviator isn't the safest profession, even in peacetime.

>>2167129
Yes and no. For the most part, witches still tend to prefer to go pantless- the simple fact of the matter is it's more comfortable for day-to-day and a lot more practical in case of a scramble. For composite crews, it's considered witch's choice- their suit has to plug into the wyvern in several places for both life support and magic interface. Going bareleg is an option, but there's no real need to anymore- the suit acts as the magical interface, instead of a striker-style interface.

The pilot's suit isn't quite skintight until plugged into the fighter's life support system- and even then, you've got a survival vest on over it.

And yes, you've seen most of your sisters bareleg before. And your mother. and all your various 'aunts'. It's honestly normal in your world. You've seen Aunt Merlin in a fenrir flightsuit before, but hers is modified from standard for improved capability.

>It had a lot of diamonds, and some of them fairly large.

Do carrier pilots make that much? Sounds like a lot of hazard pay.

>If frank doesn't approve anymore, he doesn't say anything.

So maybe? Had to reread that line a few times to understand that one. So how long have they been engaged or married?

So Lilya sounds more adjusted to life then Stasya and Natalya has though it seems to be out of story for now.

What is she doing now since she's out of the service.
>>
>>2167205
How are CVBGs defended? Are we still using AEGIS/Standard missile spam? Are lasers finally mature? Does the Navy have Burkes or its equivalent with VLS for escorts? Are ships still even armored? What kind of actual active or passive defenses does the carrier have?
>>
Are we going to have a run with Kimiko, Rosalie, and Col. Wilkin’s kids?
>>
>>2167215
He saved for it.

They've been married about ten years now.

Lilya does a few things- she has a book out, an autobiography. She also does occasionally work as an instructor at the witch annexes of Annapolis, West Point, and VMI.

>>2167223
For the most part. DEWs and things like railguns still require a witch to operate, and the navy made a policy decision that they can't count on the presence of a witch aboard their warships to run those systems. the big exception to this is the new FFG variants of the LCS- with their modular mission bays, they can carry laser-based point defense mission modules when there's a witch available for the cruise.

>>2167559
You'll just have to see!
>>
>>2167592
No kids? I guess their business lives and financial has put it on hold.

How successful is the autobiography? Compared to the eagle of tanana? has it been adapted to other media? Also how much detail does it cover, does it mention russian experimentation or when she first met Frank?
>>
>>2167636
Nah, no kids.

Fairly successful. The soviet embassy lodged a complaint about it- the first few chapters were about her early life and her time in captivity. Its startlingly popular in germany, poland, and Japan. theres talk of a movie adaptation, but its just talk so far. and theres a whole chapter in there about the fight over crete.
>>
>>2168369
Huh what's the name of the title?

Did Frank and the others read it? It makes me wonder their reactions, Frank especially to see his actions through the eyes of her and her thoughts on it.
>>
>>2168369
They been married for ten years and no kids?

Are they just putting it off or have they been trying and it's not working?
