You are pilot HARRY NEUMANN, the newest of one of the New UN Spacy's Tactical Sound Units!

It had been an.... eventful night, suffice to say. You had just come out of Amy's first public concert having narrowly saved her from a kidnapping attempt. Seemed like the Zentradi weren't going to be your only problem out here.

Thankfully, you and Lara were able to get Amy to safety, and even took down a few of the bastards in the process. Everybody was safe back aboard the Pacifica, where Amy straight up passed out from all the excitement, and you and Lara tried to blow off some of the excess steam with a few drinks.

...and then one thing led to another which had you carrying Lara around on your shoulder like she was a 2 year old pretending she was flying. She was also singing this obnoxiously annoying song really loudly that you didn't really recognize but took an instant disliking towards.

Either way, she eventually passed out as well and you deposited her back in her quarters before returning to your own to get some much needed sleep.

And, as expected, when you woke up the next morning, you were greeted by an urgent message from the Admiral that a formal debriefing over the concert fiasco would be occurring within the hour.

You knew that Lara got pretty wasted last night, so it would be a good idea to check in on her. After all, it would look bad if she didn't show up to the debriefing due to oversleep or hangover.

Fortunately, her quarters aren't far from yours considering you were in the same unit, and it's a short jog over as you hit the buzz on her door.

"Hey, Lara, it's me. Are you doing okay in there?" You ask.

The door slides open, and the next thing you know, a pair of hands shoot out, grab you by the collar of your uniform, and yank you inside like a wildcat hiding in the tall grass.

That's when Lara tosses you to the ground onto your back, then puts her knee on your chest to pin you down. Her hair and clothes a mess and the stink of alcohol meant she hadn't had the chance to wash it off yet.

"What happened last night?!" She asks in an anxious, almost manic tone.

"Lara, are you okay...?" You edge closer to her bed.

"I just wanna die." Lara's muffled voice mumbles.

"Come on, it wasn't that bad." You say in encouragement. "Besides, nobody else saw. Its' a secret between us."

"Of course not!" You try to assure her.

Well, that was partly true. Turned out the security cameras grabbed some of that, but you were able to convince the security tech on duty to scrub it in return for an autographed poster from Amy. Guess being her bodyguard did have some perks.

And she didn't need to know of the only remaining copy safely squared away in your quarters.

"Oh jeez, that's a relief." Lara sighs. "Still, uh, can you not tell anybody about that? I got an image to keep up, after all!"

"Well, you're my wingmate, after all." You grin. "And I expect you to do the same for me."

"Of course!" Lara nods.

"And uh, you do know that that we've got a meeting in less than an hour, right?" You ask.

"Wait, what?" Lara turns on her holo console and reads over her message. "OH SHIT."

"I-I am so not ready for this!" Lara frets. "C-can you cover for me? Just this once?"

"All right, but you owe me big time." You nod.

"Thankyousoooooomuch." Lara groans as she buries herself back in her bed.

Yep, it looks like Lara never really stopped being a kid. Though that wasn't really a bad thing at all.

"Just get some rest. I'll you know what happens."

Lara merely replies by raising her arm out of covers and giving a thankful wave.

And with time running down, you start making your way to the conference room.

On the way, though, you catch sight of Karla and Amy, no doubt heading for the same meeting, too. If you picked up the pace, you could probably catch up with them...

You decide to head straight for the meeting and enter the conference room, which was now becoming a very familiar sight.

In addition to you, Karla, and Amy, there was of course Dorothea. However, you also notice that General Freyberg from the CDF as well as President Dupont were also present. Freyberg was sweating profusely, while Dupont apparently had a very concerned expression on her face.

"Where is Lieutenant Williams?" Dorothea asks you.

"She's fallen ill, but I can fill in for her." You explain.

"Fine then." Dorothea sighs and looks at the other gathered individuals. "As you know, operational rules dictate that what we discuss here does not leave this room."

"We understand." The President nods.

"Obviously." Karla smiles smugly.

Amy and Freyberg remain silent, though you suspect for different reasons.

"Obviously, we are here to discuss recent... events." Dorothea closes her eyes briefly and opens them again. "Now, there are a few different perspectives here...

"I suppose I'll start." You grunt. "Everything started off smooth, up until I saw a flight of VF-171s crash the concert. My wingmate engaged them and drew them away from concert. However, at the same time, a ground team disguised as the resort staff attempted to abduct Amy. I was able to safely extract her in my Valkyrie, but we were pursued by additional VF-171s."

"Which means that there was some failing in the security procedures." Dorothea sighs and gives you a stern look. "In your professional opinion, where do you think this failure occurred?"

Oh boy, you knew what this part was. The part where the higher ups were looking for something, or more specifically someone, to blame.

"The CDF were supposed to be in charge of the checkpoints and general security." You grunt as you cross your arms.

"Indeed." Dorothea's eyes then fall upon poor General Freyberg, who seems to wilt under her fiery gaze. "General, would you mind commenting on this?"

"A-as I've said before." Freyberg sputters. "This sort of event on Nabaal is completely unprecedented. Our men are not trained to act as a general security force-"

"So this means we would have to take charge of security matters, then?" Dorothea narrows her eyes. "If I recall correctly, you and your officers were very adamant that we stay out of colony affairs under the assumption you could fulfill your duties."

Karla just looks on with interest, while Amy seems to have had her attention grabbed as well. The President meanwhile shakes her head mournfully.

Freyberg gulps.

You decide to stay quiet, wondering just how far Dorothea was going to take this. While she looked the same outwardly, you could tell that she was absolutely furious.

"I promise you that we will get to the bottom of this and the perpetrators will be found and brought to justice." He says.

"I'm sure you will." Dorothea nods. "And I assume you received the report that the VF-171 wreckage we recovered from the site matched parts that were decommissioned or transferred to the CDF?"

"We are already running full audits of every boneyard and depot." Freyberg responds.

"I'm sure." Dorothea closes her eyes and sighs. "However, I cannot ignore a breach of this magnitude. From this point on all security for Amy's movements and appearances will be handled directly by NUNS."

"But-" Freyberg blanches.

"This order is final, General." Dorothea says grimly and turns to the rest of you. "Are there any objections?

Amy quickly shakes her head. Karla continues to smile smugly while the President gives a resigned sigh.

"Sounds like something we'd have to do until the CDF can get its house in order." You nod in agreement.

"And Miss President, I hope this incident has been successfully kept quiet?" Dorothea turns to the President.

"Our press blackout is holding. Thankfully, there weren't many witnesses to begin with." The President explains. "As far as the majority of the populace is concerned, nothing out of the ordinary has occurred."

"Good, we don't want them put into a panic, and neither NUNS or the CDF can afford a major embarrassment at this juncture." Dorothea nods. "Keep us posted on any developments on your end."

"Of course."

"Now." Dorothea coughs to clear her throat. "Miss President, General, you two may leave for now. We will discuss things later privately."

"Of course." The President nods and walks out gracefully, while Freyberg nervously shuffles out after her.

Dorothea finally lets out a loud sigh, and then turns her glare to Karla.

"Now please explain to me how this operation got cocked up so badly." She growls.

"We underestimated the opposition." Karla shrugs. "I didn't think they'd bring such heavy firepower out so early and boldly."

Dorothea's eyes turn to you again, obviously asking for your assessment of Karla's explanation.

"I don't know." You frown as you lean back in your seat. "I get the feeling that we were being used as bait."

"Ah well, this concert was a test run in more ways than one." Karla's smile widens.

"So you're not denying it?" Dorothea raises her eyebrow.

"You fucking WHAT?"! Amy yelps.

"We were always acutely aware of the CLF and the possible threat they posed." Karla explains. "However, what we didn't know was what extent they've established themselves and what sort of resources they had at their disposal. The fact that they had functional VF-171s to deploy against us revealed some VERY interesting implications..."

"I don't like being used as bait." You grunt as you glare at Karla.

"Oh, don't think of it like that." Karla shakes her head. "The word 'bait' carries the implication that you're expendable, when you're anything but! It was just merely a calculated action to draw out the enemy."

"That sounds like basically the same thing." Amy grumbles.

"Now now, don't be like that." Karla tuts. "There were measures in place to ensure you would stay safe. It's just that thanks to Mr. Neumann here we didn't have to resort to those!"

"Measures?" You and Dorothea both raise an eyebrow.

"Certain individuals you might be acquainted with." Karla shrugs. "But again, it's all academic at this point."

"I just..." Dorothea sighs. "I'm not sure if I should trust you to handle this matter."

"You need a scalpel to cut these little troublemakers out." Karla grins. "It's not something that your sledgehammer should get involved in."

"Personally, I think Karla is the best suited to handle this." You point out.

Dorothea glances at you but doesn't say a word. She seems to hold this stare for a few long seconds before sighing in resignation.

"All right. You're free to pursue this, but I want results in 72 hours." She says.

"That's not a lot of time." Karla whistles.

"That's as long as you have before Pacifica is fully refitted." Dorothea says coolly. "Our scouts have sighted Zentradi movements near the border again. Possibly another probing attack."

"Ah, that's quite the bind, then." Karla smiles and glance to you. "I might require the services of our fine Captain here, then."

"Granted." Dorothea nods slightly. "Though do remember, Captain Neumann ultimately reports to me, and not to Intelligence. Is that clear?"

You get the feeling she was saying these words just as strongly to you as she was to Karla.

"Crystal!" Karla nods. "I'll be sure to act with the utmost of discretion!"

"I'm sure." Dorothea sighs and turns to Amy. "Amy, for the meantime, you're movements will be restricted to the Pacifica only."

"What?!" Amy's eyes widen. "I didn't even do anything wrong!"

"It's a safety precaution." Dorothea continues, keeping her cool face. "And with Captain Neumann about to be... indisposed, your protective detail will be severely hampered."

"This is bullshit!" Amy scowls and angrily storms out of the conference hall. As the door slides open, the guards standing outside spin around, but a quick wave from Dorothea calls them off, letting Amy make her exit.

"Again, 72 hours." Dorothea reminds you and Karla. "Dismissed."

Fortunately for you, but unfortunately for her, you easily catch up to Amy, on the account of her tripping on something and falling flat on her face.

"Amy, are you all right?" You ask as she struggles to get back up to her feet.

"No, no I'm not!" She scowls as she scrunches up against the wall instead of getting up. "That fucking Admiral! I can't stand her!"

"Hey now-" You reach your hand down her.

"Don't give me that!" Amy snaps as she slaps your hand away. "You don't think I hear the rumors, either? You're awfully friendly with the Admiral, aren't you? Pretty easy to take her side, huh?"

"Hey, look, Kid." You sit down next to Amy in a show of solidarity. "I understand why you're angry at her, and don't really agree with how she's handling you, either."

"Then-"

"But." You cut Amy off by ruffling her hair. "I know she's just worried about you like I am. We both want to make sure you stay safe."

"By keeping be locked up." Amy grunts.

"Don't worry, I'm sure Lara will find plenty of ways to keep you entertained." You laugh. "Besides, I won't be gone long. I'll get this mission done and be back in a flash."

"Well..." Amy bites her lip. "Be careful, okay? Karla always creeps me out whenever I'm around her."

"Hey, don't worry. She's a spook. I know how they work." You nod. "As long as our interests coincide, I don't have anything to fear from her."

"Well... be careful anyways." Amy holds out her fist.

"Yeah, I'll be careful." You grin as you return her fist bump.

"So uh, you still go time before you gotta go, right?" Amy speaks up, her cheeks reddening.

"Yeah, I suppose so." You nod. "Something on your mind?"

"I was... um... thinking we could watch a movie before you go...?" Amy's voice grows quieter and quieter as goes on.

"Sure!" You burst into laughter. It was the very least you could do for her.

You just hope she had good taste in movies...

>And that's it! As always, Macross will be back on Friday. Stay tuned for Frontier Knight in about half an hour!

In the original Macross series, resident badass pilot Roy Fokker was mortally wounded. Instead of seeking medical attention, he went to visit his girlfriend who served him his favorite dish: pineapple salad.

http://robotech.wikia.com/wiki/Pineapple_Salad

It's been a running gag since that if you give a Macross character a pineapple, it's a massive death flag.
>>
>>2134920
Hmm... Maybe I should go watch SDF Macross then. Cheers for the info.
>>
>>2134926
Nah is just one of those things companies do to give something to their fanbase. Also Macross didn't stopped doing it , such was the impact of Roy's death, so every time a pilot receives something with pineapple to it is a huge deathflag.
