You step out of the airship and wave to Amaretti, Camille, and Cody. In a few minutes, they're heading back to their home country for a few months.
It's hard to think how things will be without them, but at the very least you can have a card game again without having to worry about being cleaned out.

You are Jack Albator, king of the seas, master of plundering, and the hero of the kingdom of Biscotti. Today, you're watching your crew pack their bags and go home with their summoners. They have been away from their homelands for too long, and the problems afflicting your world has been laid to rest for the time being. Which means that it's time to say goodbye to your crew for a while.
Cody said that he'll be back out to say goodbye in a few minutes. Which is good, you would like to invite all the heroes together for one last talk before they leave.

Ahead of you; you see Louise approaching with a big smile on her face. You're about to ask why she's so happy, but then you see the possibly reason why slithering behind her.
Madeleine comes up behind her, and has a devilish smile on her face.

"Jack! Jack!" Louise practically hops over to you. "Look what I found!"
She reaches into her coat, and pulls out a shimmering pair of earrings. They almost have a blue hue to them.
"Well thar's very pretty, Louise." You smile, "Aye'm glad-"
Suddenly, you catch Madeleine's grin from outside your vision.
"..That's fer Ethan, isn't it?"
"Yup!" Louise is practically beaming with pride. "Madeleine helped me pick them out! She said he would look very pretty in them."
"What do you think, Jack?" Madeleine still has the same smile, "Don't you think Ethan will like it?"

"..Aye think ye may be bullyin' the boy."
"Oh you should see the necklace she got him." Madeleine herself has to keep from laughing.

You're about to say something about maybe taking it easy on the kid and not trying to embarrass him, but then you remember this very same girl crying her eyes out not twenty minutes ago about having to leave Biscotti. You decide that this is a small price to pay to seeing her happy before she leaves.

"Looks great, Lass." You take out your flask, and sip from it. "Why dun' ye go show him what ye got."
"Right!" Louise hurries off, toward the carriage headed to Gallete.

You look up at both Madeleine and Tuile.
"What is it, Jack?" Madeleine pretends that she is perfectly innocent in this whole affair.

"Next time Ethan is back in town, aye'm buying him a nice set of armor."
"Aww, what's the matter? I think it's great that she wants Ethan to look cute." Madeleine tries to hide her mischievous smile.
"Aye just think dressin' cute should be yer own business."

"See? He's no fun." Tuile stretches her arms.
mMadeleine tries to hide her grin, "So, what are you two up to?"

Oh hey, it helps if I put the link on twitter.
>>
Come to think of it, is Jack from the time when men wore high heels or am I thinking of a different time period entirely?
>>
>>2131706
I don't think so, but at the same time I have kind of vague timelines for all of these characters. Some of them shouldn't exist in the same time period.

Oh I forgot to add, since this is technically the last thread, ask me anything about the quest and I will respond.

Hey here's one: why does everyone speak english? I can only suspect barrier shenanigans.
>>
>>2133231
Funny enough, I had considered this enough to make a note of it after doing some research:
The show's answer was "Don't worry about it."
My answer is also "Don't worry about it."

It's basically a plot-hole inherent to the show. If we get in-depth, technically the barrier shouldn't have any affect on their speech because it has no bearing on the way they think.
If you want an answer, then yes, barrier shenanigans. I penned up an explanation sometime back about them actually speaking their native tongue, but the meaning of their words being inherently understood because of how the barrier connects people. Of course, then that means that no one would understand them if they stepped outside the barrier. It's foggy if they're even speaking 'English' to begin with, and therefore would be able to understand Jack even if he didn't speak the way he did.

So, eh. It's too late to play around with that explanation anyway.

"We were gonna visit all the heroes before they left, but now aye'm thinkin' we should be followin' Louise."
"Ooh." Madeleine hides a smile, "You're getting curious about Ethan too, aren't you?"
Darn it, even Tuile is smiling.

"Don't get me wrong, Lasses." you cough, "Aye just wanna be sure that Louise doesn't take it too far."
"Right."
"Sure."

You hear them giggling behind you as you take another gulp from your flask. You lazily follow Louise to the Gallete caravan.

"Maybe aye should get 'im a good hat, too." You mumble to yourself. The girls continue to noisily talk to one another about the earrings that Louise bought.
Poor kid.

You approach the Gallete caravan, and notice that it's probably the longest one out of the lot. It makes sense; it had the most people staying in Biscotti while you dealt with the dragon problem. So you're happy to see them return to their home land.

Yes.
Happy to see the cats go back to catland.
Shoo, shoo.

Fly away, kitties.
Fly away, and never return.

You step past one of the guards and approach the royal carriage. Someone that you recognize is standing here whom you recognize.

"Good morning, Princess Elise." Tuile greets the black-haired girl with a slight bow, "That is your title now, right?"
"Oh! Uh, Good morning Princess, and Jack too." Elise is snapped out of whatever trance she's in. "How are you today?"

"Aye was gonna ask ye the same thing." You kneel down to her eye level. "Are ye okay going back to Gallete?"
"No." Elise says, honestly. "I don't want to, but Charlotte says it will be okay. That she'll keep me safe."

"If you ever need someplace to stay, you know where to find me." Tuile leans down, and pulls Elise into a hug.
"..Thanks." Elise says, softly. "Why are you two here?"

"We're just coming to see the new outfit Louise bought for Ethan."

A chill goes up her spine, and her tail goes ramrod straight.
"..Louise bought a new outfit for Ethan?"
"That's right."

Her face turns red, and she slowly turns toward the larger-looking carriage.
"Uh, um. Uhh. Well- Let me go check."

Elise turns toward the carriage, and slowly approaches. Hesitantly, she pulls open the curtains.
Her face turns back to you; with a frown.

She quickly hops off the carriage, and the curtains part. Two girls emerge from the carriage, one of them has a cherry-red blush across her face.
Oh, that's not a girl.

"Jack! Tuile! Look! Doesn't he look great?" Louise seems so proud right now.
"No, no, no, NO, PLEASE, NO" Ethan covers his face as he's pushed toward you with all of Louise's superhuman strength.

"Wanna drink, son?" You take your flask out, and offer it to him.
"W-will it get rid of the crippling embarrassment?!" He tries to cover his face despite Louise moving his arms out of the way to showcase his earrings.

"Mostly." You try to hold back a smirk.

Ethan immediately takes the flask and tips it back into his mouth. He gulps down a surprising amount before he wretches forward with a cough.
"UGH, YUCK!" He exclaims, "That's terrible! How can anyone drink that?"

You chuckle, and take the flask from him. With a pour, you drink the remainder of the contents as he watches in horror.
"Just practice, son." You rub his hair.

"You know, if you played the part; then no one would recognize you and it'd be less embarassing." Tuile tries to offer words of support. "You look very cute! Very convincing, too!"
"I don't want to be convincing, though!"

"See? They think you look cute!" Louise isn't helping.

"..Yar, that's it." You try to be diplomatic with this intense situation.

"I don't want to be cute, though!" Ethan frowns, "Everyone is going to make fun of me!"
"No they won't! They'll have to answer to me!" Louise says, with certainty.

You pat the 'lad' on the back.
"Ah dun worry, things will get better."

"How much worse until it gets better." Ethan frowns.
"Maybe a lot, lot worse."

"You're going to be the talk of the whole kingdom when I'm done." Louise gives him a light hug. "This looks so good on you!"

"Yes, be sure to tell everyone you know about it." Madeleine slinks into the picture, and continues to not be helpful.

"Lass, may aye have a word, here?"
"-About how great Ethan looks?" Louise can't seem to get over it. Poor boy continues to bury his hands in his palms.

"Actually, somethin' else. I figure if the boy is going through al lthis for ye, you own him some favors, too."
"..Favors?" Louise blinks.

You can feel Tuile squeeze your shoulder. You turn to look at her and notice an evil glare in her eye.
Naturally, she assumed that you must be suggesting something lewd. You pat her on the head to reassure her fears, but you can still feel her glare on you.

"Yar, favors. Like maybe listenin' to what he wants? Hey Lad, ye dressed up for Louise. What do ye want right now?"

"I want to take this off and never show my face again." Ethan sighs.
"Understandable. How 'bout fer later, though? Maybe there's something ye'd like Louise to do?"

There's that glare again. That feeling of Tuile's eyes drilling straight into your cheeks like you just suggested something that would be uncouth of Louise.

Ethan lets his hands fall.
"..I'd like to try the date with Louise again."
"Thar ye go!" Whew, the eyes went away. "Maybe ye should try that, Louise?"

"..I guess." Louise folds her arms. "-Oh! Maybe he can go dressed like this, then!"

>Yar, sure, whatever ye want.

"Aye guess that's up to him, but if he did it, then aye guess it would only be fair that you wore some kind of suit. Right?"
"Yeah!" Ethan picks up on what you're trying to do, "If I have to dress like a girl, then you should have to dress like a boy!"

"Okay." Louise states, without any hestitation. "That sounds fun. I can get a white tuxedo and tie my hair up."
Ethan's mouth falls open as he realizes the futility of his attempted revenge. His face is painted with nothing short of horror as Louise parts her already-short hair.

"See? Just like that! I think I even have a suit, if you want me to dress up right now."
"Naw, that won't be necessary." You rub Louise's hair, and ruin her part. "Just take care of the kid, would'ya?"

"Can do!"
The look on Ethan's face at the words 'take care of the kid' is nothing short of mortified.

"Is Charlotte here? I'd like to say goodbye." Tuile pats Ethan on the back.
"She's at the front." Louise almost seems to be measuring Ethan for her nefarious purposes.

"Thanks." Tuile gives her a light hug. "Have a good journey, sweetie. I'll see you in a few months."
"I'll miss you, Tuile." Louise shows a sign of breaking down again.

"Aye, one more thing, Meet with me back at the front of the castle before ye leave, aye'd like to talk to the heroes one last time."
"Will do!"

You leave Ethan to Louise's devices, and Elise continues to watch on in horror as he's dragged back into the carriage.
Poor kid.

You proceed to the front of Gallete's caravan, and are stopped by the guards. The cat-idiots inspect you as if they don't know who you or Tuile are, but you quickly remind them that their fluffy forms are just as easy to convince as their human form. They begrudgingly let you pass.

"Charlotte!" Tuile runs past you, and immediately hugs her friend.
"T-Tuile?!" Charlotte jumps at her embrace. "Good to see you, too.."

"Aye, hey Charlotte. About to head out, soon?"
"Ten minutes." Charlotte struggles out from under Tuile's grasp.

"Louise is gonna meet with us before she leaves, so give 'er a few minutes."
"R-right, will do. Oh! Jack. One more thing."

Charlotte beckons you to follow. She takes you to the other side of the Caravan where no one seems to be watching.
"Jack, Madeleine, Tuile. Thank you." Charlotte bows to your group. "The last few months have been trying for my kingdom, and I feel there is no gratitude I can give to thank you for your help."
"Well aye'll accept silver-"
"You're welcome, Charlotte." Tuile interrupts, with a smile.

"And Madeleine, if you ever want to return to Gallete; then my castle is open to you. We could use a new alchemist."
"..I'm good, thanks." She says without a hint of hesitation. "Thank you, Charlotte."

"Is there anything I can do for Biscotti before we leave?" Charlotte folds her hands.

"Well fer one. Treat the kids well. They're gonna be by themselves fer a while, and; no offense, Gallete doesn't exactly seem te have a lot of good adults around."
"I know, I know." Charlotte sighs, "Gallete has its problems, but it's filled with many kind-hearted people."
You quickly put your empty flask to your mouth to stifle a guffaw.

"Fer two, get Ethan some good, BOY clothes. Aye think he'd appreciate it."
"I will." Charlotte sounds more disheartened about this than the last one, "It's too bad because he did look cute earlier."
"Cute er not, let 'im dress how he wants."

"Fine." Charlotte sighs. "I wanted to ask one more thing. I can protect Elise, because she's family. But can you protect the dragon girl?"

Suddenly, a spark goes off.
"Aw yeah, that's right, lastly, try not to kidnap any more dragon, alright Lass? Aye don't wanna have to bail yer kingdom out again."
"I promise." Charlotte nods, "By the time you visit Gallete again, I hope for it to be born anew."

"Well, let's not hope fer a miracle." You bow lightly to Charlotte, "Best of luck, and aye hope te see ye soon."
"Take care, Charlotte." Tuile gently hugs her friend. "And stay safe. If anyone gives Elise or Ethan any trouble, please send them here. You can count on me."

You leave Charlotte to finish packing and start walking away from Gallete's caravan. When you're far enough away, you admit something to Tuile.
"Hey, aye fergot about that dragon girl."
"I did too."
"So did I."

"Is she still around?"
"I saw her in the cafeteria the other day. She seemed relatively happy." Madeleine pulls at her hair, "..Maybe we should ask her if she wants to go back to Gallete on this caravan?"

"Why would she want to go back thar?" You ask the obvious question.
"Never know until you ask. Maybe she'd like to go to another country."

Which is fair enough, you suppose.
"Tuile, Madeleine, could ye keep the caravans busy while aye run in real quick and ask her?"
"Yeah, sure."

Quickly, you head inside to the guest wing.
Her room is thankfully not too hard to find. Alicot, the head maid, already seems to know her quite well. She's been restless lately, and has been sleeping for long periods of the day.
You approach the door to her room, and knock. There's a rustling inside, and the door slowly opens to reveal a completely nude woman.
"Oh, one sec." She states rather flatly as you inadvertantly catch a brief glimpse of a single bare dragon-breast. She retreats into her room, and throws a dress very similar to Yuuki's over her shoulders.

"..Is something wrong?"
"Aye just wanna ask if ye wanted te stay in Biscotti. The heroes are leavin' today. Ye weren't born here, so do ye want to leave with Princess Charlotte, back to Gallete?"

She blinks.
"God no, why would I ever want to do that?"

"Fair 'nough, Lass. Never know 'till ye ask." You cough, "Whar is yer sister, anyway?"

"She's probably sleeping." She pulls her dress back up around her shoulders. "It's hibernation season."
"What?"

"When it gets cold, dragons sleep for over half the day." She rubs her eyes, "My sister hasn't been visiting recently because she's been too tired to leave the grove."
"Didn't ye say that ye were gonna go live with her? What happened to that?"

"I tried." She leans against the doorframe, "I don't think it's going to work, though."
"Why's that?"

She sighs, "I don't want to live feral anymore. I like having a bed, I like having a roof, I like cooked food. I tried living with her for a day before I came back here. That's not even accounting for the other problem."
"What other problem?"

"I can't transform anymore." She frowns, "I used to be able to transform into a dragon, just like my sister. It just isn't working though, I don't know why."
"Well, yer welcome to this castle fer as long as ye need. Is thar anythin' aye can do in the meantime? Any place ye'd rather stay than here?"

"Right now, no." She yawns, "Ask me in a few months when I'm awake more than a few hours a day."
"Aye, will do. Have a nice 'night'."

The second that you say 'night'; she tears the dress back off of herself and then closes the door behind her. You're sure to lock it just in case.
So, as long as everything is good on that end, then you don't have to worry about her for a while. That's good, you have enough surprises already.

You head back outside to see that the heroes have gathered for your big speech before they set off. Madeleine, Tuile, and-
Is that Atsuko? She must have woken up. She seems to be having some kind of heart-to-heart talk with Yuuki. She seems to have tears in her eyes. Within an instant; Atsuko and Yuuki embrace each other. At that same instant, Atsuko nearly falls asleep in Yuuki's arms. Yuuki stands her upright, and shakes her awake again.
That's cute.

You walk up behind Atsuko, and gently hold her upright as she wobbles uneasily under your grasp.
"Suki's a cute one, ain't she?" You smile at Yuuki. "And aye'm sure she'll miss ye."
"D-don't call me Suki." Atsuko leans a tad bit more on you for support.

"Try to take care, Atsuko." Yuuki bows lightly. "As to you, Jack. Thank you again for everything you've helped me overcome."
"Aye couldn't have done much of it without ye."

You reach out and put your hand on her head, then you muss her hair up.
"Just make sure ye and the rabbit doesn't fall back into old habbits." You smile.

"Old.. habits?" She seems confused.
"Yar, like bossin' ye around, tellin' ye when you can and can't leave yer room. You're just as important as anyone else in that rabbit kingdom. Don't let 'er tell ye otherwise."

"Oh! It's not like she tells me how to live."
"Remember when she 'grounded' ye?"

Yuuki doesn't seem to have an answer to that. She instead gently takes your hand off of her head.

"Look Lass, aye just dun want to see ye get controlled by her again. It took a lot of work to make ye as independent as you are now. Promise ye won't get dominated?"
"..I promise."

"Yeah, leave getting dominated to the bedroom." Madeleine slithers up behind you with a smile on her face.
"S-shut up!" Yuuki's face immediately turns cherry-red.

You're not really in the mood to understand what all that means, but you're going to not let it ruin what should be a rather happy mood.

"..My point in Yuuki, stay in touch. Alright? Lemme know if the rabbit forms bad habbits."
"Habits that you didn't teach her yourself." Madeleine winks.

Yuuki gives Madeleine the evil eye, but then clasps your hand.
"I'll do that, thank you Jack. Thanks for everything."

She wraps her arms around you into a hug, you pat her back and remind her of something important.
"Remember Yuuki, this ain't goodbye ferever."
"I know." She gently releases you from the hug, "Take care of yourself too, okay? Don't hestitate to write if something comes up."

"Aye will, Yuuki; thanks."

You let her continue her conversation with Atsuko as you and Madeleine find someone else to bother. You still need to give your big parting speech to the heroes shortly, but there are at least a couple of people you can harass in the meantime.

"How's the dragon-girl?" Madeleine pokes your shoulder.
"She's fine, apparently she's sleepin' this time of year."

"Mm, right. Because of the cold weather."
"Aye, that's right."

"You didn't really think she would want to go back to Gallete after they held her prisoner?"
"Nah."

"So what did you think would happen?"
"Aye dun know." You sigh, "Must be hard, not havin' a place to go home to."

Madeleine stops, and gets a blank look on her face. You turn to face her.
"What?"
"You know, you have changed a lot more than you care to admit." She smiles.

"What does that mean?"
"It means-" She gives you a slight hug, "That I'm glad you think of someplace as your home, now."

Huh, that's strange. You guess you do think of Biscotti as your home.

"Hey Lass, ye didn't see Aligot come out, did ye?"
"No, why?"

Damn it, that lad is being a hermit again.

"Aye'll be right back." You excuse yourself, and then hurry into the castle.
"Eh? Okay." Madeleine seems confused, but doesn't question it. She knows better by now.

Inside, the maids are furiously scrambling trying to get the last minute supplies together for the caravan. Some of them are carrying packs that must weigh just as much as they do. You would help them, but this is sort of their job and the work does make them tougher. You weave between them in the hallway, and manage to make it to the library without a collision.

Inside, you see the annoying archmage sitting at his desk. He's flipping through some boring papers instead of doing the decent thing and seeing everyone off.

"Aligot!" You yell at him.
"H-huh?! What?!" He doesn't say it, but he knows that he's in big trouble.

"What're ye doin' sittin' in here while everyone is about to leave?!"
"W-well, they were packing and I thought I would just get in everyone's way."
"This is about Cassata, ain't it?" You see straight through his excuses.

His ears perk up, and he slowly backs up in his chair.
"I-I don't know what you're talking about."
"Liar." You immediately grab him by the collar. "Now git out here and tell everyone how much yer gonna miss 'em. They came to visit you so it's only right that ye go and visit them."

You pick him up and start dragging him outside. The whole time he tries to make excuse after excuse as to why he can't go out and talk to everyone.
Stubborn is a good word for it.

You take him outside and approach the small group of people talking. Yuuki and Tuile are the first to notice your approach.

"Uh.."
"Hey Aligot!" Tuile has a maniacal smile on her face. "Came to say bye to everyone?"

He stands on his own power, and adjusts his voice.
"..That's right." He tries to play it off, "I just wanted to thank the heroes once again for their assistance."

"Yar! Aye'm glad ye decided to come tell them that face to face." You slap his back with enough force to almost make him fall over. "Alright now let's go tell Cassata exactly what ye just told them."

"Wait! WAIT! Cass is very busy, you can't just-"

Before he knows it, you've already dragged him all the way over to Cassata's cart in the Bruschetta caravan. You knock lightly on the door and thrust him in front of it.

"M-Maybe she's not there?" Aligot holds out some hope of not being publicly embarrassed.

Sure enough, the carriage door swings open and reveals a bunny-girl in her ranger's outfit. She lazily holds a bow over her back.
"Oh, Aligot! I was wanting to visit."
"Y-yeah, hey Cassata, I-"

"Oh, but before I forget."

She immediately leans over and kisses Aligot square on the lips. She drags him into a hug before he can say anything.

"Now, what were you here to say?"

"N-nothing."

Hey Announcer, in thread 54 you mentioned a guy with blonde flowing hair who's ears we couldn't see, was that supposed to be Atlas or some guy we never met?

That was one of Gallete's generals, and you did meet him in the secret village. It's just he wasn't as much of a fight as I thought he would be. He was actually the one who Pomelo got the perfect 100 against.
The idea was: If you wanted to fight the guy, there he was. He used agility and poisons because he was the 'lead' of catland's special forces. The big reveal was that he had cat ears.

"Aligot." You slap him on the back, "Say yer peace or ye'll be gettin' none from me."

Aligot realizes that you're being serious, but then tries to laugh like it's a joke. Like he doesn't think you're being serious.
But he knows.

"Cassata, what I mean to say- Is that I'll miss you."
"..That's it?"

"And- I like you. Really. A whole lot."

Damn it, lad.

"Really? Because I love you." Cassata smiles. "You're a little too much of a sub though."
"CASS!" That certainly got a reaction out of him.

"Aye dun know how ye managed to do it." You cough, "What did it take? Ropes?"
"JACK!" Aligot grabs your shoulder, "Don't ask Cass about that kind of thing-!"

"What can I say? I like being a power bottom." Cassata pretends as if Aligot isn't even there. "His legs are weak enough where I can just lock him and-"

You look over to Aligot, and it looks almost as if he's melted. He holds his face in his hands, and what little part of his cheeks you can see is nothing short of red.

"Aw don't be so bashful." You slap him on the back, "Aren't ye happy te have a girlfriend like her?"
"It's not that I'm not happy, but do you have to tell everyone out in public?!"

You look around you, and of course no one is around.
Not that Cassata would care. You have the sneaking suspicion that she is probably going to tell all her friends about her new boytoy when she gets back anyway.

"Hey, why dun ye two 'catch up' a lil bit before the caravan starts movin'?" You smile wryly at Aligot. "Aye'll go stall the heroes fer ye."

"Wait, what?! She's leaving in like ten minutes!"
"I think that's a great idea!" Cassata immediately takes the bow off her back and ropes it around Aligot. She drags him into an embrace that she holds for a few seconds.

"W-w-wait, but-!"
"Oh that's your excuse for everything."

"Have fun ye two." You wave as Cassata drags him into the cart, and then zips it up behind her.
That's almost heartwarming in a twisted kind of way.

He'll learn. He just needs some more experience.

You instead look toward the group of assembled heroes. Ten minutes before they're scheduled to leave, just like you asked. You think of how you're going to make a fool of yourself in front of them one last time.

What are you even going to tell them?

>Address the heroes seriously.

You could tell them a very serious parting speech about bravery, compassion, and-
Pfft.
That's not you!

You're not going to take this seriously! If you do, someone might start to think there's something wrong with you. That's not the taste you wish for them to have before they begin their journey. You're going to be the same ol' Jack that you've always been and not let any sappy speeches get in the way of that.

"E'rryone." You grab their attention, "Thank ye' fer waitin'. Aye'm sure ye wanna hit the road soon, so aye won't be long."

"It's fine, Jack." Cody laughs.
"Thank you for everything, Jack." Yuuki bows, lightly.

"What're ye bein' so formal for?" You laugh, "Thanks fer puttin' up with me."

"Let's just say it hasn't been easy." Cody smiles.
"Yar, and another thing." You look right at Cody and Yuuki, "Ye don't have te make trouble that needs multiple heroes if ye really want us to visit. Ye can just ask."

You turn to Louise, "That means you, Lass. No more summonin' massive dragons, alright?"
"That wasn't my fault!" Louise pouts, "I never cause trouble!"

Immediately, everyone is laughing. Well, everyone except for Louise, that is. She remains defensive about those words.
"My point is." You smile, "Stay outta big trouble, small trouble is fine, but aye rather not have to come bail any of ye out."

"Hey, Jack. What do we do about training?" Dorje seems a little worried.

"Keep doin' it." You rub his head, "If ye want to, aye mean. With any luck, ye shouldn't be needin' it. There's just one thing for ye, though."

You kneel down to Dorje's eye level, and put your hand on his shoulder.
"Keep Kayda safe, will ye?"
"R-right." He seems confused by your request.

"I'll be fine." Kayda counters with a huff.

"Yar, sure ye will." You chuckle at the other pouting lass. "Just remember that if not, aye'll be comin' to find ye."
"Hmph." She crosses her arms.

"Hey Jack." Yuuki grabs Kayda's shoulders, "What should we do in the meantime, before we meet again?"

"Well; ye got a few months, right? Maybe ye should learn how te drink."
"What?" Yuuki seems confused. "Drinking?"

"Yar! I want ye to learn to hold yer liquor. By the time we're done, aye want all of us to be drinkin' buddies. Ye don't really know someone until ye get smashed with them!"
"..I'll try, Jack. I just make no promises." Yuuki frowns.

"That's all aye ask of everyone here. Keep strong on training, even if it's just trainin' yer stomach. Aye want to see ye become twice the heroes ye are now by the time we meet."

"No promises." Cody sighs.
"How do I become two people?" Louise seems confused.

"If I have to become twice the hero, I want you to become half the angry, grumbling old man." Kayda crosses her arms.

"No promises." You reply, with a smirk. "Now-"

"-Have a safe journey, alright?" You pat Louise's head, and she takes a defensive anti-patting stance. "Some of ye don't have as long of a journey as others, but aye want ye all to stay safe and alert the whole way, just in case."

"I'll try.." Dorje seems uncertain of himself.
"I'm sure we'll be fine." Kayda huffs, "You need to quit treating us like children. We're heroes, too!"

You laugh, and then kneel down to their eye level.
"Like it er not, yer still children." You rub both of their heads, "Enjoy it while it lasts, kids. It goes by faster than ye think."

"Hmph." Kayda crosses her arms, "I can take care of myself!"
"I don't want ye to have to take care of yerself alone." You stand up, "That's why ye have Dorje by yer side."

Kayda and Dorje both blush slightly, but Louise instead pouts.
"Are you two done?!" She seems less than thrilled.

"Yes! Yes we are." Dorje adjusts his voice. "Jack, I didn't get to ask, but how should we train?"

"How about-" You try to think of a good exercise for them, Dorje specifically. "How about instead of trainin' just yer magic, you train yerself, too."

"Myself?"

"Aye wasn't lying when I said that aye wanna see ye be twice the hero you are right now. Aye want to see ye be the best person, as well. Go to parties with yer princess, try to go on more dates with Kayda. Spend time thinkin' about things other than fighting and trainin'."

"Thanks Jack, I'll try." Dorje smiles, slightly.

"And the same goes fer everyone else here. We've been busy worryin' about cleaning up everyone else's mess. Aye say let them clean up their own mess." You point behind the gathered heroes, "Ain't that right, Ladies?"

They turn around to see that their summoners have followed behind them. Elieen, Charlotte, Greta, Amaretti, and Annette stand before them with massive smiles on their faces.

"Is it time to go?" Cody looks his princess in the eye.
"Maybe after your heart-to-heart." Amaretti smiles.

"I am SO PROUD OF YOU!" Charlotte rushes over to Louise, and grabs her into a hug.
"..Charlotte, no, not in front of everyone!" Louise struggles to escape the vice grip of affection. You can't help but smile.

"Great news, Kayda. We're living in Carancha, now." Greta approaches Kayda, "Eileen talked with one of her diplomats, and they were able to work out a deal. We can both live in Carancha for as long as we need to."

Kayda, instead of having the usual response, instead turns to Eileen.
"Is it true?"

"For as long as you want. From this day forward, you and Greta are wards of Carancha. If anyone wants to get to you, they first have to come through me." Eileen seems proud of her accomplishment.
"And me, too." Dorje interjects, he puts his hand on his summoner's shoulder.

Kayda seems dumbstruck. You were expecting the same dismissive attitude she seems to have toward everything, but this seems to have struck her in a different manner. One that you can't quite describe.
"..Thank you." Kayda says, softly. "Thank you for giving us a home."

Her cheeks, are those tears on Kayda's cheek?
Greta smiles, and embraces her hero.

Slowly, they walk toward Carancha's carriage.

"That's really cute. I want our children to be like that, someday." Amaretti leans against Cody's arm.

The carts make a sharp snapping sound as the drivers start to pull away. One after the other; the caravans start to slowly lurch forward.

"I guess this is it, huh?" Cody hugs Amaretti closer. "Take care of yourself, Yuuki."
"Likewise." Yuuki grabs Anna into a hug.

"Keep in touch, Lass." You smile at the two, "And keep an eye out fer demons 'round yer kingdom. But more importantly, workin' on that drinkin' game."

"I promise that the next time we meet; I'll be able to drink a pint of beer."
"That's the spirit, Lass!"

"Thank you both for your help." Anna gives a slight bow. "We'll be back!"
"Cody, Jack, mata ne." Yuuki smiles, "We will meet again."

Cody blinks, "Yeah, take care to you, too."
"Yar! See ye later!"
"Take care Yuuki, Anna!"

Yuuki and Anna slowly depart for their caravan. They seem to be happy, and that's what you really wanted.

"Hey Jack." Cody leans against his bride, "What did Yuuki say at the end of her sentence?"
"Beats me." You take a drink from your flask. "Are ye off, now?"

"Afraid so." Cody pats Amaretti on the shoulder. "Pilot doesn't like flying when its dark, or windy, or anything but clear blue skies."

"Ah ha, I know the one." You chuckle.

"Tuile, Jack, I'll be looking forward to hearing from you." Amaretti smiles. Tuile wraps her arms around her friend.
"Yeah, remember that you can write us." Cody smirks, "If you remember how to write that is."

"Aye still remember some things." You smirk back at him, "If ye can't though, aye'd be glad to give ye a lesson when yer back in town."

"Yeah, I'll take you up on that offer." He pats you on the shoulder, "Bye, Jack."

The last of the carriages pull out from the castle walls. Their drivers snapping at the birds as the carriages speed up and slow down as each one of the carts hits the rough road from the smooth castle path.
A sore archmage can be seen hobbling from the back of the Bruschetta caravan as he makes his way into the castle.

A few more minutes pass, and a giant airship lifts off from within the castle walls. It takes a southerly turn, and then slowly moves off into the horizon.

You guess that's it. They're gone.

"Hey Jack." Madeleine sneaks up behind you. "Are you crying?"
"Me? Bhahahah." You laugh, and then take out your flask. "As long as this flask is full, aye'll never cry."

"He was totally crying." Tuile grins.
"Ye have no proof of that." You take a drink from the silver container.

"Your cheeks are red." Madeleine raises her tail to wipe the skin on your face. "Now I see why Cody always beats you at cards."
"Aye'll have ye know that he beats me 'cuz he cheats. Not because aye'm a terrible liar." You take another swig of your flask, just to be sure.

"Hey Jack." In this angle of light, you notice a glimmer at Tuile's eyes. "Do you think they'll be fine?"
"Them?" You chuckle, "Of course they'll be fine. After all. They learned from the best."

"I'd like to meet that 'best' someday." Madeleine teases.

You follow the sore archmage back into the castle. He appears to be going straight to his library, probably to get some ice or something for his drastically underused manhood.
Hell, you can't make fun of him. At least he's getting lucky.

You think about what the heroes leaving really means for you, and feel a sense of regret. Did you use your time together wisely? Well, yes, of course you did. You used it wisely because you were the person who was using it. What a silly thing to think.
Still, you're going to have trouble filling a day, now. The castle was so lively, and had so many familiar faces around. You haven't been in Biscotti very long, but you feel as if everyone was a family.
That's a tough way to look at it, and you're not sure if you ever thought of them that way before. They're family..

Oh, what's this nonsense? You'll be seeing them again, and the time will go by so fast that you won't even realize that it had passed.

"Oy! Princess!" You hear a familiar yell from behind you. "Hold up a second 'ere, will ya?!"

You turn around to see a face that you've seen multiple times before, but you seem to have problems placing it. It's a tall, muscular man who could be easily picked out from the castle staff. He has a length of rope wrapped around his waist, and a mallet attached to his belt. His attire is nothing short of sharp and professional all the same.

Oh! You know this guy!
"..Max!" Yes! That's right. This is Max! He's the head foreman over at the shipyards. You know him best as that guy you may have laid out in a barfight. Thankfully he didn't remember that, so you call it even.

"Good afternoon, Maxwell." Tuile takes a more formal approach. It's clear she has a deep respect for the guy. "Are you here for a requisition from the castle?"

"I could say that I am if ye would give me the money for it." Max smiles, "But nah, that's not the reason I'm here. I'm here 'cause we finished the renovations to the ships ye left with us a few days back. Aye saw the carriages and figured ya would be around."

Tuile blinks, "Ships?"
You have a sudden realization. "Aye, that's right. We left an airship with ye."

"Just one?" Max unfurls a piece of paper. "I have two here, both in yer name, Tuile."
"Two?"

"Yah, that's right. One was salvaged from Konditorei."
"Aye, that's mine." You take that paper with a grin. "'Finders keepers' is kinda my life motto."

"And then there's another that's actually for Camille. Have ye seen her?" Max eyes it with confusion, "It's an airship she commissioned after her last one went kaput."

"Camille just left for Pastillage. She'll be gone a few months." Tuile takes the paper, and frowns. "I didn't know you were working on a ship for her."
"One of the best that ever flew, I tells ya." Max smiles, "Shame she left before she could see it."

"Hey, is it in her name or Tuile's name?"
"Actually, it's in the name of the demon huntin' shrine." Max points to a spot on the sheet of paper.

Oh, well that's easy to fix.

"Hey Lass!" You yell at Atsuko, who has decided to fall asleep on one of the benches. "Git over 'ere real quick."

Lazily, Atsuko stands up and shuffles over to you.
"Put an 'x' right here." You hand her a pen, and guide her hand to the sheet of paper. After several unsuccessful attempts, she manages to make an 'x' on the line.

"Well, I think that covers it then. Come find me at the shipyard later if you want to take either of them for a spin." Max waves, and then makes his way out of the castle grounds.

"What do you think, Jack?" Tuile smiles.

>This may be the last vote of the quest

"Aye think we should take Max up that offer. Ye ladies up fer a spin?" You smirk.
"I think that's a great idea, Jack." Tuile smiles.
"With that ship, we could beat some of the heroes home. Imagine their shock when they find us waiting there for them." Madeleine grins.

"That would be hilarious." Tuile giggles, "Yuuki has a journey of about a week, right? That's about two hours by airship."
"Let's worry about that after we get a couple test flights outta this thing." You drag both Tuile and Madeleine into a hug. "Just me and ye, sailin' under a starry moonlight."

"Ooh, sounds romantic, should I go get dressed or should I get less dressed?" Madeleine gives a sly look.
"Worry 'bout that later, right now let's go stock up." You turn toward the castle gate. "A good outing needs some fine drinks."

"Drinking while piloting an airship seems like a winning combination." Tuile fluffs her hair, "Do you want me to bring a pilot?"
"Of course not, aye know my limits. C'mon, let's hit up the bar and get the good stuff."

You pick Madeleine up and help her across the wooden drawbridge. The whole time Tuile is clinging to your shoulder. In the distance, you can see the sun starting to meet the treetops as the afternoon slowly turns to dusk.
Thankfully, that means the night is still young.

The breeze whips through your hair as the massive ship lifts off from the ground. The cool night air mixes with the warm afternoon atmosphere. The gusty turbulence and chilled wind bump and shudder the vessel as it begins its ascent.
After a few hundred feet; the shaking stops. Instead being replaced by the warm breeze of the quickly retreating day.

"Are we clear?" Tuile holds onto one of your arms.
"Aye think we are, could ye give me some room thar, Madeleine?"
"Hah, sorry." She uncoils herself from around your chest, allowing you to breathe once again. You forgot that Madeleine and heights don't exactly mix well.

"Thanks Lass." You step away from the wheel, and both of the girls gasp.
"Y-you're not gonna fly it?" Madeleine's composure seems to crack slightly.

"Dun need ta, watch."
Slowly, the wheel of the airship starts to spin. It rotates one way before lazily rotating the other way. The nose of the ship remains mostly on course.
"How is it doing that?" Tuile blinks.
"The air doesn't need to be fought. The ship wants to keep sailin', and it will float just fine. If ye don't care where yer goin', then ye can just sit back and let the air take you where it wants."

"I hope you know how to get back." Madeleine fixes her hair.
"So what if aye don't?"
"..Seriously?"

"Not in a hurry te get anywhere, are ye? Sometimes just lettin' the world take you where it wants is the best way to live."
"That's nice, but how do we get home?" Tuile's ears twitch.

"Look at the horizon, girls." You point directly north. "And then gaze slightly up."
A shimmering light hangs above the horizon. It's easy to spot, it's one of the brightest things in the sky right now.
"What star is that?" Tuile blinks.

"That's 'Polaris', Lass." You smile, "It's also called the 'North Star'. As long as ye can see that star, ye can find yer way home. Speakin' of which, let's get out some of that good stuff the bartender gave us."

Tuile giggles, "Ship's sailing itself and we're starting to drink. A winning combination."
"Hey, that's how most of the ships aye was on were ran." You smirk.

Madeleine pours three glasses, and hands one of them to you.
"Aye propose, a toast." You hold the glass high.
"A toast to what?"

You think about that question for a moment.
"How 'bout, the future, our future, our love, and fer these wonderful drinks!"
"Here!"
"Of course you would toast to a drink." Tuile holds her glass up, and tinks it against yours.

The three of you tip the glasses back, and drink the liquor whole. Madeleine points something important out.
"Hey Captain, the ship seems like it's sailing itself that way."
"That's toward the horizon, right?" You smile, "As long as we're headin' toward the horizon, then we're goin' the right way, and aye can always find my way back."

"That's fine and dandy, but I'm pretty sure Gallete is that way." Tuile smirks.
"Ah, well, aye'll adjust course to fix that later, fer now, let's drink, and enjoy the ride."

That's right.
For as long as your flask is full, your loved ones are by your side, and the wind is at your back; then there's always a journey to enjoy. The places you go are only footnotes to the paths you take to get there. Your old captain used to say that, and he was right.

Slowly, the ship begins tracking into the distance as the three passengers aboard drink the night away. The night is young, the moon is right, their journey is just beginning.

Folks I cannot put into words how happy I am that you have followed me for the better part of three years now. That's crazy to think about. I've spent three years on this quest. That's the most time I've ever devoted to any single hobby in my life.
I've said it before, that I don't think you're having fun reading it if I'm not having fun writing it. I still mean it, I've had a blast writing this quest for as long as I have. It's been quite amazing watching people come and go, and interact with the things that I considered to be 'creative' (some people's definition of if this quest counts as 'creative' may differ from mine)

Some of you may ask a question, "Does this mean we'll never see a Dog Days quest again?" The answer is no, I'll probably post some continuations in the future, but the main story has ended. I have a few ideas for continuations, and one of them I'm not sure I can post on this board. On the other hand, I do have some ideas that could flow very nicely off of this finale.

But before I do that, I have a promise I need to keep with the other quest that I used to write. They need a little continuation of their own, and I've been putting it off.

So, as I've said before, the only way to know what I'm doing is to follow my twitter. Again, if you don't know, my two accounts
https://twitter.com/announcer_QM
https://twitter.com/qm_cardheart

You can also find me in Quest Thread General sporadically. I don't post with a trip, but I'm sure I'll see anything that you may ask me eventually.

In the meantime, thank you for all your effort over these past few years. I think now is a good time for one more Q&A before we fall off the board.

As a treat, have the full version of the OP images I've been using.

Any questions?

I didn't do this for my other quest, but I can for this one.

I have the full .org format of my quest notes. If you want, I can post it on pastebin. It's over 5 megabytes in length, and contains all changes past and present.

I may do that, just so I can say that it's there.

Any idea when your next quest will go up?
>>
>>2163654
No idea when. I first have to write a small continuation for CPM that I had been promising, and then I'll think about it.

Yes please.

I wasn't here right from the start, but I was here pretty early.
Announcer, thank you for running this, despite the mess with qst and tg and everything.

Okay, I'll get to uploading it right now.
>>2164225
I'm glad that I was able to run it. It's been a fun ride, even though the mess. I would do it all over again given the chance

Haven't been here from the start but Dog Days Quest has been one of the few quests I've consistently enjoyed throughout.

Also I've been re-reading through the archive and have a few questions:
In thread 75/76 Fritelli mentions collecting honey as an end of training trial. What would that have been about?
I'm not sure if it's mentioned but how did Elise get amnesia?
Is Kayda's ability to hear things talk a result of her nat 100 in thread 92
Also I can't seem to figure out why Catland decided to kidnap a dragon (did we ever get her name? I'm looking though the archive and I can't seem to find it)

Hey! Glad you've been enjoying it.

>In thread 75/76 Fritelli mentions collecting honey as an end of training trial. What would that have been about?
Oh man, I forgot about that! It would have involved fighting bears. Not bearpeople, but actual bears.
>I'm not sure if it's mentioned but how did Elise get amnesia?
I'm not sure if I ever went over it either. I don't remember if it was because I decided it was too cruel and retconned it or because we just never decided to investigate it.

The original explanation: She was the "Base station" for the ring network. She was the thing that was relaying the messages that came over the ring psychically to all the other rings on the network .Her amnesia is directly related to having a part of her memory wiped so she wouldn't remember getting a ring and remember the people who captured/imprisoned her. She wasn't actually imprisoned in Gallete all of her life, that's just the part she remembers; so it feels like the entirety of her life. She lived on the street with Ethan before then.

I may have deemed that too cruel and decided not to include it in the plot.

>Is Kayda's ability to hear things talk a result of her nat 100 in thread 92
Yes and no. I gave every hero an innate ability that they would 'activate' when getting a crit perfect. Which they were then aware of past that point. Kayda's ability in my notes was "Fire reading", which let her see/talk with aspects of the future. This happened just after she got the ring put in, so she had trouble separating the two. That's why she still hears it despite no longer having the ring.

>Also I can't seem to figure out why Catland decided to kidnap a dragon
I think I did explain this one very briefly, they were using her to intimidate a greater dragon to control the weather in their favor. This didn't work as they expected due to the greater dragon not remembering her as his daughter. So they kept her around in hopes of one day being able to pull the same scam again.

>(did we ever get her name? I'm looking though the archive and I can't seem to find it)
I noticed that I forgot to give her a name sometime back, and decided to roll with it. So she doesn't even have a canon name in my notes. I had the off-hand nickname of "Amber", but it wasn't food related and her name was going to be Chinese in origin.

Yeah, my writing isn't the best.

Hello, it's me again.
So uploading my notes to pastebin didn't work like I thought it would. It seems they have a pretty hard cap on the amount of things that can be uploaded at once and the number of lines uploaded per day. I'm trying to seek a way to just post the file itself somewhere, but that might a little bit of time.

In the meantime, we have about a day left before we fall off for the last time. So keep asking anything that may be bothering you about the story.

This thread is about to fall off in about twelve hours from my guessing. We're three away on the catalog from page 11.

Folks.
Thank you for everything.

I cannot put into words how happy this quest made me, and how happy I am that you stayed with me until the end.

Always remember, if you want to ask any questions, you can always find me on my twitter:

Much like Jack, I look forward to the adventures we will have in the future together. Trust me, we will have more adventures!

Let's end the thread the way we always do, with wagging ears and fluffy tails.
