It has been several months since the beginning of the Iero-Reptian War, but for many soldiers who stand on the battlefield today, it feels much longer than that. How long has it been since a true time of peace? All in all, less than a year; but that year has seen countless hardships. The devastating tides caused by some unknown event in the early months caused the barbarians to the south to move northwards, and then Reptia seemed like a friend in its offer of aid; no, more useful than that, an ally. Yet, with conflict over, the seemingly well disposed neighbor decided to make its move with a forceful vassalization offer that in no uncertain terms would have meant that diplomatically Ier would be subjugated to Reptia, if only in name. No rightful Ieran would stand for that, and so the emissaries parted with their head: but Reptia would not take no for an answer. Thus, ghoul fought against ghoul in the bloodiest conflict perhaps seen on this land in its history; Ier against Reptia in a clash for who would be the dominant power in the region. And this, supposedly, would be one of the deciding battles. As it nears noon, the commanders issue their final orders as to the plan before the confrontation; a last few moments of respite before the invaders stand their ground or fall.

Commanders, what say you?

You shouldn't have had to roll, my mistake.

And of course, are outpaced the entire way. Except something does seem to be happening amidst the Reptian army... still, it isn't obvious. Some form of smoke does appear to be coming out of their central column though; and after that, they appear to be moving forward! The battle has begun at last.

And indeed, positions hold, or at least that of the cavalry; most men do not question the command and for good reason. With the enemy coming off of the terrain advantage they have gained, there must be good reason for it. Their descent seems painfully slow, and their approach even more so. As the sun slightly dims, it is clear that over an hour has passed, and yet their march only brings the main forces—and not even their easternly flank nor their archers or rock throwers—down from their position on the hill. Yet in the distance, something is spotted approaching. Cavalry. It seems that with the introduction of your own, the enemy has made its move in a similar way. Still, theirs seems to number only 600 or so, some hundreds below the roughly 800 who presented themselves under Chad's command for the battle. Yet, your main force makes a move as well, as the Blood Guard position themselves in such a way as to enable them to get at the left flank of the adversary, though it gives the enemy a bit more time for the cavalry to appear.

Purple = Command unit
Red = Elite unit
Light Blue = Rock thrower
Purple = Archery
Blue = Cavalry

While the cavalry faces its opponent that is just starting to appear on the field of battle, the two armies are coming nearer and nearer with each step. Even though the western side of the Ieran forces are feeling the blows of rocks and arrows (from ranged combatants moving slightly over to the west), they do throw back some amount of javelins in return. However, it is not an equal amount, and that is noted, as too is the advance of the left flank of the enemy. They move forward with the back of the main infantry's line, and as that group meets with the point of the Ieran "arrow", the true fight finally begins.

While all in all, numbers seem to favor the Ieran side, multiple factors go in to making sure that at least for this stage of the battle, that isn't the case. In the melee, the enemy's left flank ceases advancing as the main bodies of both armies greet, so while the Ieran army advances, the first group is wrapped up within the arm of the Reptian army. On the other side, Reptia has used the imbalance of their army to give momentum that has pushed them up and around the wedge; yet, there's still room to break out. Elsewhere with the cavalry, it had seemed for a moment that the feint had drawn the Reptians in, but both cavalries met on equal footing, with the Reptians gaining a slight edge. While not wielding the same kontos weaponry that the forces led by Chad have been using, they bear not dissimilar arms, though not of a recognizable make. Their greenness does show in that they come onto the lowlands before charging forward, neutralizing their advantage of higher grounds, while also leaving the flank of their companions open.

While the situation looked for a moment quite dire, the past hour or so has given the Ieran army a much needed respite; or at least the cavalry and the left flank. Towards the west of the battlefield, the enemy cavalry have proven a bit of their ineptitude with field arms, having issue pressing forward. As their first column fell, and so too did their camels, it's become clear some kind of retreat has been ordered. On the other side of the fighting, the lone Reptian contingent that remained at the back of the forces has been surrounded by the Bloodguard and is being whittled down. Yet, they're still fighting on, receiving help from an increasingly embattled main line. Their assaults on the eastern side of the Ieran wedge is still doing significant damage despite all this, having made its way forward to flank the most northern point of the edge of the wedge. As the sun finally dips in energy, the morale of the men begins to grow. After all, in the dark, that is their time to shine over the gnollish-ghoulish-ehwazi forces present here.

(Blood fervor usable.)

As the cavalry moves forward with their charge, their quarry barrels up the hill in front of them, and so they too follow, as that was already part of the plan. What was not part of the plan is what greets them as they run through the scattered dead they leave behind them; the giants. Having seen the approach already, they've begun lobbing rocks, and the archers have followed suit. While the remnants of the enemy's mounted forces provide for their colleagues, as shattered as they will be after this, they are at least stopping the advance of the Ierans, or so they hope. Morale here is still strong however, especially as the sun dims; these men have set fire to sleeping giants, they know their foes hold little against them in this area.

Elsewhere, much a similar scene is painted, as the Ieran advent in the infantry is ultimately halted by reinforcements from the main line of the Reptian army. Detaching several units, each with a few figures to command, they've managed to push back the Blood Guard. Similarly reinforcing the west, it appears their hope is to push around the line that makes up the edge of the wedge, and throw it wholly into the midst between a sandwich of Reptians. While risky, this move (which weakens their line) has apparently worked out quite well for them. All in all, the morale has been diminished by this, but as it turns to dusk, a slight boon is granted to the increasingly embattled Ieran infantry.

The charge by the Ieran cavalry is not met with much fanfare, rather, it creates its own form of announcement. In the silence that accompanies the 700 and something odds' ride down the hill, in the din of battle, the lack of noise is rather eery, and gives it an atmosphere almost akin to the death of a trusted leader. And that it would show too, as it met its target—the back of Reptian command. Shattering through it and into it almost immediately, the cavalry cleaves the remaining Reptian infantry in two. The enemy is in disarray, and some of their units at the back, especially those with men who diverged from the command block seem hesitant about fighting. As their order to retreat sounds though, one group does appear to still be making its way forward. The Reptian cavalry, now left unmolested by their Ieran counterparts, appears to be swinging around the wedge—as if attempting the same feat that has resulted in their loss.

The cavalry catches up with most of the force, but there are a few stragglers at the head of the pack who break past. However, their last moments are spent at sword point with a hastily resurrected defense arranged by Kato and not a moment too soon. Cutting at the neck of a rider as he passed by, the man could be sure the job was done once they all had been taken from their steeds, alive or dead. However, this last charge has done one thing; given the other remaining Reptians a chance to run to the boats! Whether intentional or unintentional, the foolhardy tactics employed by the now deceased cavalry crew has perhaps saved more lives than it cost.

A surprising number were able to get to their ships, truth be told, but the rest faced other punishments. Taking any who knew how to fire a bow, Kato rushed men to the port where they began to soak cloth in oil and resin before, well, actually firing them. In two ways. In this way, two Reptian ships were downed.

It is the 10th of Hoktis now, and as the men finish their duty throughout the night, dawn brings fresh orders for those who aren't needing rest after such a day (and night).

All in all, some 350 or so Reptians lay dead on the field of battle, with a further 1500 being held prisoner, coralled within the walls of Threetans. 600 or so escaped on ships, though it's entirely possible upwards of 50 or so drowned when their ships were caught alight in flame. Countless other vessels wait empty by the sea, though empty in not just population; it seems the Reptian army had not enough food to last them but a day longer, with the choice to come down from the hill being a forced one.

(Drastic miscalculation:

300 dead on battlefield
150 died to escape captivity the day of the battle
1050 prisoner
600 escaped)

Of your own men, you know the roughly a thousand and a half strong army stands as such:

150 dead
200 heavily injured
800 lightly injured
370 uninjured

The way back is fraught only with danger by the sheer amount of Reptians left, but without arms and leaders they are left declawed and toothless. The gate of Ierok stands tall in the sunlight as the army approaches; a welcome respite from the war that these past few months have been made up of. The leaders join the Tyrant quickly in the Concord Hut, as it is obvious from a glance that something has gone on. A cursory report of a battle is nothing compared to the sights of it, and in the eyes of citizens it's clear from their gazes that they've seen one. Figures are spoken of, and facts and numbers exchanged; all in all most are looking forward to the end of the war as the messenger is sent out...

Until the message sent back amounts to a rather elaborate "Burn in hell." Accompanying that are reports from the scouts in Reptia that a large force is still marching forward, having made a few stops, towards Vul'cana. They are two weeks away, at current speeds, and number around one and a half thousand strong.

It is the 24th of Hoktis, and the sentiments in Ierok are quite frankly just a disgust at more of this madness.
>>
Commanders, what are your orders?
>>
>>2125157
The army will sit in Ierok, resting and tending to their wounds.

The prisoners will be told that their homeland has abandoned them leaving them completely to our mercy. They will be offered the chance to serve Ier or die, those who take up the offer will be given the task of executing those that would not.

There is nothing worth dying for in Ful'cana.
>>
While the army is treated to and waited on, Vul'cana is left to its own devices, and within a few weeks, it is conquered. That is not to say that all have been idle, and indeed, once the prisoners were given an ultimatum of "Join or Die" the vast majority, some 900 or so, said "Join" would probably be the option they were looking at. The other 150 were merely another number added to the body count at the end of the war, joined by about half that number of their companions (70) who refused and/or hesitated in giving their companions the release of death. All in all, that brings the forces up to around 1220 Ierans ready to fight, and a further 830 Reptian converts willing to do the same.

The army has moved no further south yet, but scouts do report Reptian forces patrolling along the stretch of river there. On top of that, Reptian ships have been spotted in the seas around Ier and Threetans. A letter has also been sent to you, or rather shot with an arrow from a boat moored at Threetans, which is received at Ierok on the 5th of Dekoly—31 days until the new year. Addressed to the Tyrant and the Sub-Tyrant, it asks for both your heads in return for a promise of peace; and if that is rejected, nothing is on the table. They wish for an envoy to bring it to their capital.

Commanders, what will you do?
>>
>>2125276
"O Archon, Reptarian devil and damned devil's kith and kin, secretary to Ash himself. What the devil kind of knight are thou, that canst not slay a turtle with your naked arse? The devil shits, and your army eats. Thou shalt not, thou son of a whore, make subjects of Ieran sons; we have no fear of your army, by land and by sea we will battle with thee, fuck thy mother."
>>
The message is delivered, or so your scouts say, but the messenger doesn't come back, nor the message. It would appear that they're not happy with the response, and as it turns to the second week of the last month of the century, you hear tell of movement both by land and by sea of the enemy. A flotilla is coming up the river and the army in Ful'cana has begun its descent. And at that moment, morale seems to begin to finally lower itself from the climax that was the defense at Threetans...

It appears that the enemy has no intention of stopping to attempt to cross, and they've in fact begun moving down the coastline! While the main thing they are raiding on their way is housing, the vast majority of the homes along the eastern side of the river are accompanied by farms, which reports confirm to be how they are sustaining their army at the moment. As such, and without a way across the river, no battle can be had; in fact, the scouts also report that the enemy has no means of crossing right now. This may very well be where the ships come in, as scouts also affirm the fact that Reptian ships are present in the delta, and are moving northwards. It is entirely possible these are either reinforcements or supply ships, though one scout tells an unlikely tale of a small Ieran ship on the delta; a lesser craft than was sent out, with both Khoratio and several of his men on board.

The sheer number of ships Reptia has sent and their speed is ultimately the only true retardant for the plan due to the fact they move with others as covers, but then again, that just means another target to hit. Flaming arrows are generally the most utilized, with volcanite being saved for conservation's sake; they burn the same either way, with several Reptian ships being caught up over time. Perhaps the the reason the strategy is most effective though is not the numbers deployed. Rather, it lies with the mentality of a soldier. Normally one would wish to rescue their comrades, but under threat of fire, the Reptian vessels would be forced into ranged combat with an enemy who benefits much more from blazing arrows than they do in a longer affair. Thus, they move on, but not before nine ships are brought down. After all, a camel cannot in all honesty match the pace of a boat.

A smaller Reptian force appears to have crossed the river further up the river, though this is realized quickly after. Setting fire to patches of farmland, the blaze appears to have died out with the help of the rain, but the perpetrators are nowhere to be found. The most immediate report given is that of the internal raiders and it gives rise to a question of what exactly they were; as in, the past tense. The Ieran riders caught up to the group as they lit another flame, but the fighting was fiercer than expected. A cavalryman described to Chad how a ghoul dressed in skins leaped for his throat and how his legs morphed (albeit temporarily) into that of some kind of furred creature's. It attempted to bite him, but seeing something not quite like saliva glistening on the fang like teeth contained within its mouth, he slew it there. The rest were more or less similar, putting down several mounted warriors for their troubles before finally all of them lay dead.

The scouting report gives brighter news though, as it appears the army and the ships are planning to approach on the (formerly) most heavily populated stretch of the river. However, that is not the only movement in the area. Scouts out to the west speak of a sizable giant force approaching, though whether that is good or bad none can say.

It iis the 17th of Dekoly, and the new year quickly approaches.

Though the words are left unspoken, scouts reporting only to Chad have already informed him that his secret goal was successful; it would appear addressing a letter to the giants of Lower Lopen has brought them into the war, on Ier's side. However, the other Lopenei have not greeted him with a response in person, although Rogh sent the one sent to him back with confirmation of some volunteers along with himself being on their way. They can't delay for them of course—and as the new arrivals are informed, a plan is drawn up for a conflict at the crossing.

Though the location of Rogh and his men are unknown, the Lower Lopenei soldiers stand ready as much as any with the other forces assembled on the battlefield by noon of the 25th of Dekoly. The sun scorching above, three different nations—Isa, Lopen, and Ier—stand assembled to fight the Reptian threat that encroaches on their land. Yet, the enemy has clearly prepared in the time they have been in these areas; and that is most notable, well, in the land itself. Their infantry, teeming around the edges with giants, and with ghouls and gnolls closer in, stands before a dip in the terrain, one forcing any potential enemy to have to go around and into their area if they wish to fight. Yet, they have also made a noticable impression on the earth further behind the infantry, with a huge amount of dirt clearly being moved to make room for Ehwazi rock throwers standing on the mound. Noticeably, the middle is filled in with individuals not wearing typical Reptian dress; some not wearing any armor at all. A strange scene, all in all, but not one unfit for the end to a war. Morale stands strong as the army waits for their orders.

Moving cautiously around the Reptian army, they too shift as your forces pivot around in such a way to enable access to the irrigation system. However, the issue with the plan becomes obvious once the flow of the river is altered; it is at its lowest level during this time of year. The water coming out is thus merely a stream, slowly filling up the earthen hollow between you and your targets. At least for a moment. Then, as if guided by some kind of unseen hand, a vast spray of water comes out from the river, and barreling into both armies. While position is maintained, all are now soaked. Rather more importantly, while the fields haven't had time to drink up the water, the moisture will make it harder to move for both armies, and may eventually impact the terrain more later in the battle.

In the first wave, a significant effort is made by all allied forces to push forward; and it works. The charge of the rather fearsome warrior giants pushes deep within the enemy ranks, and creates a situation where two sections of the enemy are being pushed in. Accompanied by the Isans, the two squadrons of jungle fighters use their unorthdox fighting styles against the enemy to great effect; Reptians are used to proper warfare, not this. However, while the Ieran infantry is doing well, the combined Blood Guard and Brotherhood forces are being put through the ringer, as not enough adjustment was made in the move towards the enemy to allow them a niche in which to fight properly. The cavalry, while not in a similar situation, have found the rear end of the enemy a stickier area than they had thought, as the giants prevent too much penetration into the ranks of the infantry there. However, their move is hurting the enemy without a doubt, as the infantry are trampled both by their own allies and the pads of the camels.

The Lopenei have difficulty gaining any foothold past the Reptians, as they are essentially just pitted up against a more experienced Ehwazi group; and in that situation, barring a miracle, it's certainly not going to be a lesser experienced band of warriors winning. While they are drawn up in that, the cavalry is able to avoid major complications from their situation at the back and plunge through the enemies facing the Lopenei, helping them gain some foothold against their common foe before sweeping back around to the front of the battle. Somehow the Blood Guard and Brotherhood are holding off a group twice their size, with Kato taking the lead in the former of the two. Their counterpart on the other side, the Isans, are also holding strong against a giant contingent that in two ways is larger than them. Morale is heightening as the battle continues, for even the hopeless situations seem redeemable in such a frenzy.

It seems like luck has finally started to turn; or perhaps it is strategy. Reptian giants push forward through the throng of gnolls and ghouls still fighting, even if it means their deaths. They are allies, but in a war like this, one must be merciless, and they are. With the cavalry, they become stuck in a quagmire of giants and infantry that's seeing many of their animals panic, while the infantry are dealing with the fresh wave of giants who have been unable to affect combat until this point. However, the Brotherhood and the Blood Guard are faring the worst, with many in their line already lying dead on the ground. Faced on two sides by giants and on another by a mix of races, they are still fighting, but are utterly failing to prevent the flanking of the infantry. If that occurs, all the work thus far will be for naught. The fighting may be fierce, but all seem ready to weather it, come what may. It is funny though that the Isans, the ones who seemed to be the most disliked among the ghoulish cohorts, are succeeding the most. And there lies the sign of something to rally behind for these men, even as their situation grows worse. The common link of not even blood, but land above all; for all here fight to put the threat to their mere existence now, to bed.

Stopping here for the day, migraine.

(DC of 35 for the cavalry, forgot -5, enemy morale.)

While the separation of the cavalry is accomplished, the issue here is not that they fail in their duties; rather, by moving further into the giant area of the enemy line, they are bearing damage that they otherwise would not be taken. Combined with a flagging Lopenei failing to break through the enemy infantry completely, it is not pretty there. However, worse is a realization had by some in the infantry. The giant forces being opposed here bear some signs of Upper Lopen, and other images unrecognizable. While this impacts little in the way of actual fighting, it is shocking that Reptia, a nation who had previously seemed to have little interaction with giants, had gained this amount so quickly. And they still appear to be holding back our advance, as the Brotherhood and Blood Guard are forced entirely into the infantry by the flanking forces. Frenzy is merely serving to unorganize the troops as the conflict continues.

The warriors fight on bravely, but at this point, it seems almost futile; for while the cavalry continues its duty, the shield walls are being battered down, if not broken entirely. The enemy seems not prepared for this kind of tactic, but adaptable based on their skills, and so the giants (of whom the most numerous seem to be West Lopen) continue with their assault. This battlefield feels almost stagnant... Yet, the line is about to break, and thus the last chance lies with you now.

As the cavalry makes what could be its final move, the infantry continues to fight and bleed on the front lines. Yet, as the mounted men led by Chad penetrate into the infantry which makes up the rear units of the enemy, they find themselves put up against a familiar face to some; that is, the same individuals who had launched the raids some days prior. A larger group of them here, but still, their powers remain the same, as they hold some of the cavalry behind during the withdrawal. In all other areas, a bloody stalemate; but that might have been the invigoration needed for this battle to finally end in a way positive for the Ierans.

The cavalry this time manages to avoid major complications, plunging into the enemy's rear and returning unscathed. Their attacks are slowly weakening the enemy's rear, and giving up some openings. If previous battles are anything to go by, a few more attempts at this should see the death of their commanders; yet, the Lopenei still remain struggling against the infantry for whatever reason. As humiliating as it is amusing (at least to the Reptians), it is certainly not helping the matter of their morale. Blood frenzy's power does seem to be helping overall, but if it is used a few times more, it may result in the same disaster that happened at Ierok.

The same moves (barring withdrawal from blood frenzy), the same story; while the cavalry is effective, the Lopenei are not. Somehow, despite the presence of the infantry, they are still failing. The cavalry meet the enemy with a crash of bronze and copper, the sounds of war echoing all around them as the camels charge forward in another attempt to break the enemy. Yet, as much as the move forward works, on the other side of the Reptian force, the infantry are facing down the giants and falling completely. The hammer has succeeded, but the majority of the body they were meant to crush against is falling as the infantry are pushed back. If success is seen here, the enemy will be broken, but on the same token, both the cavalry and infantry are in a most precarious position.

Even as the ghouls among the army fall into a familiar blood lust, it is not enough to stand against the onslaught that the combined Reptian forces bring to bear against you. While the cavalry bears witness, the infantry is continuously repelled, until it stands no more. The enemy, despite its multiple blunders, seems to stand finally victorious (after much bloodshed) here. While the Ieran warriors refuse to back down, this situation could spell doom if orders aren't given.

As your adversary pushes forward, they leave themselves open as their infantry flags behind the force of giants. But what stops their charge, ultimately, is those Ierans still standing on the front lines holding them back. Harassed from behind in the gaps by the cavalry, the giants are forced against a fresh wave of infantry, which has formed of the broken remnants of the previous units. In this way several giants fall to the sustained onslaught which they've had to fight against for so long. Seeing this, some seem incensed by the fall of their allies. For now though, the front holds.

The cavalry moves to cut off the enemy infantry, and as they do so, their command is separated as well—as this is done, so too is their command cut off. That leaves just one target left: the giants. As the infantry pushes forward, the Ehwazi are cut off and broken as well, with their men being subject to attacks more vicious than most in the hours prior. The sun is dimming now, but as the scattered remnants of the enemy finally give in, most surrender at last.

———

The battle is over, finally, but at what cost? It is night now, and scouts sent out to check numbers are reporting back with grim figures. Around what used to be farmland just lays land drenched in water and blood, with scattered corpses providing but the barest scenery for the flat grassland. Over a thousand lay dead, and the losses were as bad on your side as they were for the Reptians; this was a battle to end the war, yes, but that carried with it a weight of life that the others had not shown. The most gruesome sight is that of something that had gone unseen in the heat of battle; the bodies of Rogh and his men lay closer to the beach, seemingly having been killed on their way here. It is apparent that the enemy had employed a method similar to your own, drafting giants of Upper Lopen for use as you in turn used the Reptians. Yet, those from West Lopen and those unidentified fought against thee for reasons unknown. As the army feels the fatigue of a long battle, the final integers are told to the commanders.

On your side:
450 dead
600 heavily injured
800 lightly injured
60 unscathed

The Lopenei:
100 dead
150 heavily injured
125 lightly injured
75 unscathed

The enemy:
600 dead
950 heavily injured
580 lightly injured
20 unscathed

You have captured their commanders, but very few nobles are found among the bunch.

What will you do?
>>
>>2135191
Kill those heavily inured on the enemy side, treat our wounded then theirs. We need to rest, interrogate the Commanders on the Blood Mages and their Lopeni warriors. Send a Reptarian messenger to summon the Archon to Ierok.
>>
The massacre of the Reptians continues well into the next day, though it is begun at night; another 50 or so of their lightly wounded succumb to infection or blood loss by the time they are treated. Similarly, 100 of the heavily injured Ierans meet death as well, as do 20 or so Lopenei. Yet, as that is finished, most take the time to rest, a brief respite from all that has gone on. The chance to breathe brings with it various tasks which people set themselves about on—and for you all, that means a chance to do what you want, though your time is limited.

(That is to say, an individual action.)

As we do we will gather our dead and those standing will take as many spare bodies from the enemy of possible...trophies and decorations. Bring in all we can who can scavenge and salvage. Find the dead mages, carve their skin. We will have their shapes and all upon their bodies
….......................................

Mahk overlooked the scene of death and destruction, the Red Paint of life staining the ground as far as he could see. Tired he rose from the knee he was resting upon while he'd taken trophies from another kill. He was tired, so very tired...so much lost, but they'd won, for now. He sent word for the heals to come forward to treat all they could. He looked forward to interrogating those blood mages, he would leave the Leadership to Chad...the Subtyrant has a way with extracting information

Stemol is not a man prone to sadness, but looking out on the field of battle, he does shed a tear for all those lost. He raises a wooden cup nicked off a giant, and drains it of the beer contained within. He tries to do so until he has done one for every body on the field, but he passes out before then.

>>2135241
Panting next to the water, Sholaz looks back in the darkness towards what lies on the grassy plains. Numerous bodies, dead; so many cut off, and so young as well. As he was caught up on the front line he saw a man spine broken out of his flesh as the giants moved forward. A foot came down, and all of a sudden white bone shot out like a wretched worm buried skin deep in the ghoul. Somehow he himself had avoided that fate, but as the man retches into the river below, somehow Sholaz questions which of them was left off with an easier fate.

>>2135247
The looting of the dead is frowned upon, but the House of Ivory is not alone in doing it. And with the sheer amount of corpses putrefying in the summer air, there are many goods to be had.

———

Upon the questioning the commanders of the Reptians, the Sub-Tyrant finds out quite a bit. The Blood Mages come from a land across the sea which Reptia has allied with, and the Lopenei (specifically the West) have done so as well. It seems that among the giants, a complete unity is still not yet had.

Yet, as for the message sent out to the Archon, the response received on the 27th is not what most expected. An envoy has been sent, but it is most certainly not the archon, and he carries a letter.

"You find yourself mistaken if you believe Reptia fully drained. The war may be over, but negotiations will favor neither side, or else this continues to the advantage of none."

As you remain in the field, it is now the 27th of Dekoly; 9 days before the start of the new century.

And as night falls, those traveling on camelback take boats across to greet thee. The sky dims before they reach the command tent, but they do indeed make it there.

"Greetings, I am Aghrippa the Second. I am the representative of the Women of Reptia."
>>
>>2135411
"Greetings I am Sub-Tyrant Chad Metalar, I must say an impressive host you have arrayed. What is your intention with it."

Greetings, you remind us of your predosessor. What can we do for the women of Reptia
>>
>>2135424
"As I have said," she replies, "I am the representative of the Women of Reptia, and we have succeeding in ending the life of our Archon and his men. We would only allow them to go on so long before we stopped this war, but we too are Reptians, and thus have come to negotiate, rather than give in."

Looking around, she seems to be focused on something other than the conversation.

"I understand if the show of force is a faux pas, but it is needed; for if you refuse to end this conflict as our Archon did, then we will stop that forcefully as well. However, where are our men?"

>>2135431
She smirks.

"I wasn't aware my mother was still remembered; she was not fond of Ier, let me say that."
>>
>>2135446
"It is sad tidings that you were not able to send word first instead if gathering this show of force. After your Archons latest threat we were forced to end the lives of our prisoners who so strained our already thin resources. Those who fought by our side were spared however."
>>
>>2135451
"You did what?"

The woman's voice is dangerously low, as it turns from warm to ice in a matter of moments.

"Do you have any idea what you've done to yourselves? Consider the population of Ier vs that of Reptia in a total war; one that you've just invited."

Looking around at the camp once more, her eyes pick on Reptians among your midst.

"Let's see here. Taking away those you've enslaved out of our own men, you must have half our number here, yes? This isn't even a third of my nation's female population. Yet you, in all your mental power, thought it would be a good idea to massacre men with whom the population shared a bond?"

As she turns to face Chad her look is more one of disgust than disbelief.

"You are a fool, and you have invited your nation's death because you couldn't keep your attraction to death between your legs. Reptia is one nation, and regardless of our leaders, most would still see those who massacred our own die. Our husbands, sons, and brothers fought for us, and we will not forget that. Good day, thinbloods. I must report back; you will not expect me again."

And so she does, leaving the way she came with the handful she brought with her.
>>
A new messenger is sent out to greet you, this time with demands. They are as follows:

- All Reptians in captivity will be released, as will others who fought alongside the Reptian forces
- All land east of the river, including its banks, are to be surrendered, up to Ful'cana, though not including it
- Reptia will receive the head of the Sub-Tyrant as well as any ships of theirs in Ier's possession

Only if these are followed will further bloodshed be avoided, or so they say.

How about the following:
You send your five best and we do the same. Location suitably neutral to both parties.
If you win we will pay you tribute and let you have the land you demanded. If we win you will pay us tribute and give us the land our tyrant previously demanded. In both cases all prisoners will be allowed to return home.”
>>
Having been spurned upon her entrance, the messenger returns to the army, though she says she may yet return; but in the meantime, the Reptian army remains camped on the other side of the river, motionless and silent. It is nearing the 36th now, and though the men are composed and in jolly spirits, there have been a few speaking of a bit of festivities for the new year to substitute for any event at home. However, these commands have to be cleared with the commander.

Commander, what will you do?

The messenger comes back quickly, but according to his account they're not willing to do so; they appear more willing to talk than their emissary was earlier but their celebration will be separate.

As celebrations begin in the camp, a small ration of alcohol as well as seasonal foods are provided by the giants. They appear to have prepared for this consequence of assistance in advance, and as groups of them mill about and sing songs which are apparently only heard once (or twice if you're lucky) in their lifetime, the camp feels just that much more lively. A watch is kept of course, but shifts are exchanged so none have to spend all their night with their backs to their fellows-in-arms of their comrades and their faces towards the enemy. And as such, the festivities begin.

Many drink to that, though to their dismay once they've found out they've run out of their supplies. Still, the night grows longer and just a bit colder, providing fresh relief from the sun that has beaten your backs for many a day this war.

>>2140732
The giants are interesting to talk to during such an event, some even having brought strange outfits for it. While they seem to be observing their own traditions, that doesn't stop them from joining in. Meanwhile, the ghoulish warriors sit and talk of what they've slain and even how many; after this war, they will perhaps be the most well fought in Ier at any point in its history. Others tell their own horror stories, most notably your own clan's Khoratio—yet it is his own embellished tale of just how he and his men returned home that draws the most attention.

>>2140745
>>2140740
Many agree with the Painted, but it is a warrior society—blood of the enemy not spilled on the ground may as well be wasted, or so the prevailing thought goes among many of the soldiers.

It is nearing midnight now, and people are turning to watch the sky above. The sun's lights are said to be especially beautiful by those who have seen it at the turn of the century, though, granted, that is merely the words of the giants for obvious reasons. Still, as the strange lights that have dotted the skies accompany their larger sibling, the night grows quieter—though that may be a result of some turning in early.

>>
>>2140761
Sholaz continues his discussion with the warriors and the painted.
"While enemy blood should be spilled. I'm of the opinion we must be more careful in how we go about choosing our battles and how willing we are to start them after seeing the results of the Archons campaign."
>>
>>2140784
The Painted while mostly busy seem to be of the opinion that the enemy are to emotional and unreasonable, not because they are women but blinded by grief and pride. Such people make good prey if hunted but dangerous if allowed to organise
>>
>>2140766
The Iermen and Tannish could give no damns about any grievances at this point; some are too tired to care, and others have been given liquid courage enough to actually communicate with each other outside of the occasional pleasantries normally exchanged. Some do express fears of what comes next once they return, or whether they will return, but they are confident that their families and the nation will celebrate them and their sacrifices anyways. The only other concern is for those who have fallen, and with the lack of much of a religious basis about what happens after death, that can be seen as understandable by most.

>>2140767
The night air cleans the mind and lets your senses run wild. Free of the taste of alcohol and the smell of smoke and meat, you are able to walk unburdened as your comrades lay around you. A pleasant way to pass the time, at least til the sky is lit up.

>>2140783
In an open area, you prepare yourself as you look to the sun, or rather, where the sun would normally be. As conditions grow darker, even ghoulish eyes fail to make the distinction between black and blacker in the crisp night air.

>>2140784
This is more readily agreed with than what Sholaz previously said; after all, while dying can be an honor, wishing death for yourself is another (and more importantly more foolish) matter altogether.

Murmurs ring out in the night and are quickly silenced, as one giant's booming voice rings out over all:

"It's beginning."

He is right... all alight on the same image, of the sun being lit up a bright but tinged violet-blue. Indeed, it's hard not to miss, as the blaze has no discernible beginning or end point. Instead you are met with what seems like a strange familiar but new orb in the sky—and from what you know, those at the pillar are seeing runes light up just as you see the sun itself washed in the color. It is especially odd in that the color normally signaling the turn of the year is white, but that is not to call the change unpleasant. Staying for a minute (notably longer than a regular year as well), it fades slowly, until you are left with an afterimage in your eye of the unearthly night's glow.
>>
In the morning, after most have awoken, it seems that a more somber mood is in place. Not everyone gets to see such a thing, or so the giants say, and that seems to have stuck in the minds of many—that they are lucky, or even blessed. Many go through their regular tasks with a renewed vigor as a message is awaited from the females across the river; one that is spotted well before those bringing it cross. Two riders. Arriving as fast as they can (or so they carried themselves) their request is short. Rather than just demand anything outright, they would wish to hear what the Ieran claim would be, and go from there—a notable change from the angry demands delivered a few weeks prior. The commanding officers enter a tent with the Sub-Tyrant, and from there, a consensus is to be formed in response.
>>

In the span of half a year, two separate conflicts have been fought, and the sake of Ier as a nation has been at stake; but through planning, a little bit of luck, and the blessings of Rok and the blood, you have triumphed as the new century begins. What material needs are lacking are replaced by a fervent pride in the nation, for you have weathered the worst of what a century could throw at you. It has been 300 years since the destruction of your people, 100 since the Order, and through it all, Ierok has stood and grown. Rebuilding begins now, and many believe it will bring a brighter tomorrow. In fact, new knowledge is already coming in as the repossessed boats of the Reptians are put to use as trade is brought to them. Their mysterious locations in the middle of nowhere appear to actually be islands in the apparent bay in which you live; one which they call the Maw. One such reason for this is the seas, which are a fickle beast, especially around a pillar they speak of to the south. It's immediately recognizable to the Concord as what caused the Blood Guard trouble in their conquest—yet with its presence known, perhaps the south could be further explored and colonized. Your nation remains partially ruined by this war, yet new opportunities present themselves as the reconstruction period starts; a hoard of Reptian war belongings being repurposed for their use for a new nation.

As a focus on agriculture begins, so does the autumn; and indeed, after such a long summer, it does feel nice for cooler winds (for tropical grasslands, mind) to arrive. So too arrives other news. West Lopen has declared independence from Upper and Lower Lopen; Reptia has elected a new leader; and the previous minister in Isarn has been assassinated in a plot rumored to go to the highest levels of government. In Ier itself, a new Tannish leader has been elected. A veteran of the previous war, he campaigned on a platform of unity and cultural revival—a notion currently quite popular in both Threetans and Ierok. For the first time in quite a while, the lesser tribe finally seems in harmony with the government in the capital.

Finally, a large construction to give Ierok a building of the same stature as its neighbors; and on top of that, one with two floors. While storage basements have become increasingly common since the development of the first mines, this is the first building that is able to support the weight of another floor. A veranda stands atop a few pillars towards the front of the building, with both the river and farms within its sight.

Another system to rework, as I don't think that's clean or simple enough. Apologies once again anons for a lack of forethought.

While a small amount of progress is made in further development of design of boats and refining of ores, stretching in three directions at once does not help any efforts prosper, and indeed, rebuilding efforts have also stagnated. However, culturally things are still moving along at a steady pace, and now, in particular, with religion. Blood and Rok are growing closer than ever before and thus the Brotherhood and the dwindling Desanguiere priesthood are interacting more than ever before. While mostly positive, some occasional fights have broken out, and purists remain. On top of that, there is a growing belief in the afterlife after news spread of an event that had occurred briefly before the war, or so it is claimed. The head of the Khazirsson family, Chad, tells of how he met the ghostly founders of Reptia in a cave at Ful'cana; and furthermore, that they were the ones who killed his uncle Tem. But while this is granted credence merely by his word (however strong it is), other sightings of those very same figures, and a few more, are giving way to this view of there being some kind of world after death. Some seem to intentionally ignore the other things Chad finishes this story with; that they told him they are damned to wander upon the earth they stepped on in life for all eternity; yet those who do are trying to think of ways to avoid it. Of course, that entirely depends on the person—and no real course of avoidance has been seen to be the norm in Ieran society.

While further veins are discovered in currently existing mines, new areas to establish mines have not been found. In other recent news, free trade with Reptia has begun to impact the nation socially, as women begin to move for voting rights; something that the gender imbalance in Reptia as well as Ier due to the war is causing some agitation in Ierok. Reptia, having established the right to vote as universal to all non-slaves, and then to all due to the formal banning of slaves, is not experiencing this as badly as Ier is, though the current Archon, a war veteran himself, is struggling with demands from women for reparations and support financially due to the loss of their family and friends. Lastly, winter has begun.

DO YOU SEE THE LIGHTS THEY DANCE ANEW
>>
Spring comes very early during the year, with the latter quarter of 304 blending in with the beginnings of 305. While agriculture recovers, a rudimentary mathematics system that had existed in various forms among Threetans and Ier in the past is improved upon due to natural factors involved quite a bit with the post-war recovery and needing to keep track of resources. The most substantial is the unification of the base units of the system as ordered by the administration in Ierok, with base-10 being adopted for official measures. A new unit, 0, is usually left unwritten and the numbers moved over slightly to show the difference in the sizes of an amount of something.

While the gender issues still continue, cultural issues with the Tannish appear to be at an all time low as an area of Ierok is designated for their trades as well as granting them their own sphere of influence. Work is immediately put into making it into a microcosm of their life at home, and it is swiftly becoming the home to more scholarly and artistically minded within the town. The Tannish also appear to be having more interactions with the Isans, bringing them slightly further into the mix of ghoulish cultures; though not too close. Some interesting similarities discovered between the older culture and the splinter of Ier back in the early post-Light days include the use of the blood oath, an emphasis on ornate shields representing each important family/group, and artistry based on wood and dyes.

As the lumber industry expands, the settlement called Capanok grows; with an influx of workers their chief trade is growing more towards the logging industry, thus outgrowing the thriving herbalist community there. The gender conflict seems to be getting intensified by this, as the predominant group getting sent out to work there is males—though that alone is not enough to warrant an increase. The other aspect involved is the draining of men from other areas, especially farming ones as Ierok grows, causing women to be more involved in farm labor. If they can do this task important to society, it is asked, why can they not take up other roles? In foreign affairs, Reptian trading with Ierok has grown significantly since the war, though now it is more focused on exchange of raw materials and goods rather than agricultural products. Their islands are in such a location that it puts them in a prime position for reaching all key settlements in the nation. Isarn also appears to be expanding its affairs slowly northwards, into the lands left ruined by Vade.

Work is put into improving bows, especially in terms of experimenting with perfecting design. To begin with, both fletching and arrow heads are now brought more into uniformity, but a new bow type has been made as well. The recurve bow, which can be made as a composite bow as well as the more traditional one piece you had been using previously, has a strange design, as its limbs bend away from the body and out towards the enemy. Yet this is what gives them strength as more pressure is applied throughout the entire bow. They add velocity to the shot of the weapon, and thus are seen as something that could mean a significant advantage against weaker species such as gnolls. In other news, the map has grown more complete, and borders finally fully filled out. Summer has also begun.

Create the Festival of Mothers, during the first week of a new year. The focus of this festival will be celebrating the women of Ier and their contributions to our society. As men are the warriors, leaders and death-givers women are the healers, teachers and life-givers.

The first half of the week will focus on the Virgins, those yet married and be a time of courtship and revelry.

The second half will focus on the mothers and be time for the gathering of families, gift giving and feasting.

The last day will hold a great sacrifice to Rok from among the slave population.

The Festival of Mothers is created, and in a way, it does seem to sate the demands of the female population. Those who continue lessen in number throughout the year, a fact bolstered by the belief in the afterlife—strange as that may be. It seems that the growing opinion is that if one's individualism interferes with the good of the society, the latter comes first. And now among the majority of the population, especially with the growing number of women too busy to start any proper protest and the rising birthrate (thus rising number of mothers), society does indeed appear to be good. It is strange though; Isa, in comparison to Ier and in a lesser manner, Threetans, is on the opposite side of the fence. Women are seen as the leaders—to the extent that even the jungle itself is meant to be a female deity channeled through their priestesses, called the Spirits of the Jungle. Speaking of Isa, giants who have been coming to visit from Lower Lopen speak of an increasing number of the ghoulish group coming through the jungle and conversing with their leaders, especially those same Spirits.

In terms of clothing, a number of clothing designs are pitched to the government as a search/contest for a dress style that fits Ieran culture begins. While it cannot really be called a contest with no reward, the cultural impact would provide sufficient fame for many artists. While it turns out that the term alpaca was being used as a misnomer for both alpacas and llamas due to the gnoll term encompassing both, the difference was realized eventually. Damn gnollish translations. It's akin to the occasional mistranslation of Reptia; for in the beginning, due to Reptian accents, it was originally pronounced Reptias by many Ierans.

Anyways, the designs finally settled upon were a mix of several animal fibers and borrowed much from other cultures while blending it into something a bit more functional than pretty. The inner chest garment is a fully sleeved undershirt, constructed of alpaca wool. Its role is to protect from rain, as it does not retain water, and to heat—its insulation works even when wet! This is important for those working on the river. The overshirt is a looser design as to not restrict freedom of movement, with its tee sleeves flared at the end in something rather unique among the known dress types. Jackets used during cold nights and in winter are typically made of camel hair though, as the animal's guard hair too is insulating and though it may be soaked is coarse enough that water has a hard time penetrating. Underwear for men is also made of the material, to prevent brushing against further alpaca clothing, this time of the Huacaya type rather than the silkier Suri used for both the undershirt and the overshirt. With a thicker foundation, Huacaya alpaca wool provides sufficient protection when working on the river, though it is generally made in such a way that it ends at a snug cuff at the feet, right above a pair of leather sandals in the Reptian fashion. The Tannish Quarter serves to act as the production arm of Ierok as the clothing encouraged by the government comes into style, as it is both fashionable (in that all of the clothing consists of shades of yellow and white and brown and can be further dyed but for the shoes) and convenient to wear.

Rogh’s Bathhouse

A massive bathhouse built in Ierok dedicated to all who gave their lives in the Ieran-Reptian War and named after the Lopen Chieftain who came to our aid dying in the process. At the door on either side statues will be raised one of a giant warrior and another of a Ieran warrior.

With a separate area to house bathing giants the waters will be brought in through the aqueduct and heated with Volcanite. After a long days labour men and women can come clean off relax and talk with their fellow citizens.

An ambitious and arduous project, but it is finished; and it is not the only monument to the war. On the fields along the river where the decisive battle of the war was held, a small cairn has been built, though its creator is unknown. Elsewhere, shadowy words speak of the ferals to the north moving southwards.

Fac project time, and personal project time.

At Ierca the underground river discovered by Chad was open by Gnollish slaves creating a new river which flows down the Volcano. After the war with the new giants slaves increased mining and hauling would increase from both mines in the area with docks created at Ful’Cana which had expanded over the time with the new Reptian converts finding open arms and help given my the Blood of Khazir.

Sadas will start making some sculptures based on the art he found in Isakh. (no roll)

The Erabenim will build a guildhouse in Ierok where they can centralize their business of masonry, aiming then to take over the construction market. This decision will also further split the Erabenim, the purists now all living in the city practising masonry, while the tentites shall live in Eikhol-Ezh, focusing on herding and farming. (roll)

The Spider's Blood is rife within the House of Ivory, the time has come to begin to master it. Thus the Painted Ghouls sought out the most suitable teachers...The Arachnids. Over the past ten years the House of Ivory has been seeking to harness the bloodline that will no doubt soon infect them all, better to control it, before it controls you...thus with the Spiders they keep watching and shapes on their skins the practice their art, their craft, their Spider's Gift

Meanwhile Ocir the daughter of Dais and heir to the Line of Dayr has spend the past en years of her young life sneaking out and whispering to the lake and river, surely if Rok speaks to the brotherhood and the Jungle to the others...maybe the River or lake will whisper to her, if she truly listened to the deep.

Further research will be dedicated to reaching any new information about the ghoulish body. Hopefully such an endeavour will increase the skill and knowledge of said healers.

While the project of Chad results in the death of many a slave, slowly progress is made, and the river has found its way to Ful'cana over the past few years. Docks are made, and giants are more than willing to help, but perhaps the area where it falls short is in the number of Reptians. It would seem that Chad is seen as one who betrayed his own training partner, even if he and the Ieran warriors he led did not view it that way—the low numbers of the self-exiled Reptians who work with him is proof enough of that.

Morpi's animal companion though, as he did manage to come away with a strange egg, is growing to be as large as him! This is somewhat concerning, as while the animal isn't truly as bad as its brethren, it is a carnivore and shows no signs of stopping...

>>2152384
The sculptures produced by Sadas are that of a time gone by; sometimes he even nicks them himself, reproducing the tired look of the men and women whom they depict. He finds himself occasionally carving names into the ones he most likes, their range of dynamism being their true self-worth as traditional names are borne upon their limestone and sandstone facades.

However, the more important decision to build the guildhouse affects the community of masons so badly that competitors from Threetans have moved in and taken over much of the market. With their relatively extra-cultural designs (to a cultural Ieran), they are proving that even those with a monopoly on a practice can be driven out if they don't pay attention.

>>2152470
While the farms are set up to the consternation among several of Ier's government (especially for its drawing farmers away from the more populated river span), the attempts with eagles have met with little to no success. The wild birds, while occasionally spotted, are elusive and prideful, as befits their role as a high ranking predator.

The initial mistake of the House of Ivory was assuming that the Arachnids or even their protectors, the Ehwazi, would wish to be involved with such an affair. And indeed, they did not wish to; the Arachnids saw the actions of the House as merely that of thieves. For what else could one say for a group of people who exhibited spiderlike qualities in their blood mages? Yet, one day as the students practiced, their instructor commanded them too far—far enough for quite a number to die, and many more to receive mutations. For every 1 beneficial, there were 3 negative; and the mutations could range from loss of all senses to limbs turning into that of a spider's. Many of those who mutated that day fled, and more were turned away again by the House's insistence on such a strange act. It was, to put it quite aptly, inhuman.

Ocir hears the sounds of fish and more as she spends her time by the water, but nothing more. Legends of things such as a sea monster or anything else would remain just that; a legend.

>>2152506
The farmlands develop, but Sholaz learns little. It appears the place the rumors are stemming from is West Lopen, but they do not see outsiders well. In fact, even other Lopenei have failed to get in to see their families and such; with this situation possibly occurring, those strict borders are oh so much more enforced now.

>>2152517
Khoratio seems like a natural at the helm of Reptian ships, and in fact, on these larger vessels he feels more at home than anywhere else.

(Critical Success: +1 to sailing actions for Khoratio.)

>>2152680
While the Blood Seers do train a significant number of warriors, disaster strikes as an "injured" feral is found along with a "dead" one. The former appears to have faked it, while the latter was similar to the apparently dead ones in Ierok over a decade ago now. Or so says the few survivors; those captured in the north escaped on transport back south in the company of the trained warriors, but only a handful of the soldiers missed their date with death as the fiends came back that night. They appear to still be on the loose...

Winter appears to be on the horizon, though the heat of alpaca dung (no really) as well as the red hot forges keep most warm during the colder days of the end of fall. Improvements in metal artistry include engraving on sheets of copper before they are placed on something, as well as just engraving in general. The only significant news heard recently is that Isarn is assisting West Lopen with taking down the ferals. Ier himself is said to be involved.

With the war finally over and no pressing matters currently occupying their time, Tekhom gathers several groups of the Ash Walkers best soldiers and sends them out under the leadership of her half brother Los. Their mission is simple yet dangerous; try to locate the nest of the giant lizard birds that attacked the Ash Walkers decades ago. Tekhom, who witnessed the attack firsthand, has had a crazy idea since she first saw the beast; to tame them. With any luck, the Ash Walkers will find the nest and bring back some of its eggs and use old emu hatching techniques on the eggs.

Sometimes it's better to get a little down and dirty, and art is no exception. Something notably lacked (other than by the Tannish because of course) in Ier is pottery. So, utilizing other artistic techniques, Ieran pottery becomes relatively distinctive. With an emphasis on utility rather than vanity, designs are where the focus is put, as it has been in our construction as well as metallurgy. This age of peace continues as winter comes... it has also been noted that trade has been increasing with Reptia as of late, which concerns some of whom note that was also the case immediately before the last war. Yet, boats are also going out to what seems like the middle of nowhere, and returning laden with goods; not a surprise then when it is realized that the Riverisa have been in contact with one of Reptia's trading partners and gaining some of that wealth for themselves. They appear to be located on a larger land across the sea.

When it's the middle of winter, neither building something exorbitant or arenas seem particularly appealing to people; but at least watching people die gets the blood pumping. Sort of. Either way, a decent amount of money and resources is going into the building of this stadium, and it will not be finished by the end of this year. However, what has finished is the obtaining of maps of Reptia and the location of its trading partner; the Nakh. A group of Ehwazi who have been trading with Reptia for several decades, this nomadic people sells exotic goods such as objects apparently from foreign lands as well as just odd trinkets, artifacts, spices, and more. They do tell the Riverisa several things though; they preserve the record of their people on tattoos and runes they carve into their back; and furthermore, that they haven't encountered many groups in their time wandering the ashlands mixed with grasslands they call home. In fact, the land that they knew of to the south of them disappeared a little less than two decades ago. In its place, they claim, was the ocean that has been there to this day.

With an emphasis put on standardizing training for herbalists, and creating resources that list the effects of certain ingredients along with concoctions of blood, the government is doing its part in seeing medicine advance. So too is the religious authority it would seem; the new High Priest role has been voted in, and in a strange turn of affairs, it's a Rok worshipper. Purists on both sides are disgusted, but the majority of the population, who falls somewhere in the middle, is fine with it. They are encouraging meditation as well as consumation of blood as the main ways to heal with herbs merely assisting this process. Blood begets blood, and all that. In other news, Ier's population has finally reached 10k; but other news soon reaches you from the north...

Have a good evening, anons.
