As the bell rings and the teacher leaves, the Class Rep stands up from her seat, obentou in hand. On her face, determination.

She walks over to your direction…

And passes by your seat. The class rep heads over to the table on the corner of the classroom, by the window. Nakamura Eiji’s seat.

“And where are you going, Eiji?”

“R-Ryou? I was off to get some lunch…”

“Idiot! Didn’t I tell you you’re having lunch with me today?”

You on the other hand, fix up your things before heading out to the canteen. Behind you is a common occurrence ever since you’ve been part of Class 2-1 – the Class Rep, ever the “tsundere” type, trying to ask out Nakamura-san to lunch.

“Ara, ara. So early in the morning and you’re already being all brutish, Hikaru-san?”

A voice like ringing bells echoes through-out the room. Entering the room like a fresh breeze, in walks the top beauty of the school, carrying a bentou four stacks high.

“…Kobayashi Mariko.”

At first the boys were clamoring all over just trying to get a glimpse of the princess, but eventually it became obvious that she’s only infatuated to one guy.

“Don’t tell me you’re going to feed poor Eiji-kun leftovers for lunch, Hikaru-san?”

“They’re homemade!”

“Eh? But didn’t you say—“

“Shut up, Eiji!”

Though this thing has been a common occurrence for you, you find yourself watching the scene unfolding in the back of the class. The tsundere class rep. The haughty ojou type. The wimpy guy. Why if you didn’t know any better, you’d think this was some cheap harem romcom rip-off!

But you know better. After all this is true life, right? This is all just a coincidence.

You are just about to leave when something catches your eye. The two girls, the Class Rep and the Ojou. They’ve always been eye-catching as the top beauties of the school, but there was one particular thing that caught your attention.

Their hair.

Kobayashi Mariko sported long silver hair that reached down to her knees. Hikaru Ryou, on the other hand, sported a more appropriate length, with a braid on the side of her hair. Her shampoo and hair color were the same: lilac.

Silver hair. Lilac hair. Silver hair. Lilac hair.

It was against the school regulations to dye your hair. Not that that stopped the delinquents, but no way will the Class Rep and Top Student be dyeing their hair such ridiculous colors.

No, as far as you know, they’ve always sported those hair colors. And for all this time, you’ve never thought of it as ‘unnatural’.

Why have you always thought they were natural? The answer is simple. They ARE natural.

It was then that you [Awakened]. To the fact that you are NOT living in the real world, but in fact, in a universe akin to a harem romcom anime.

And, as you stare at Nakamura Eiji, you come to the realization that you are not the protagonist.

If we're in an anime as a self-aware background character, then we've got an edge most characters do not: genre-savviness. Wonder if we could use it to elevate ourselves to side character or even protagonist.
>>
>>2113586
>”Wait, let’s think about things rationally for a second…”
The protagonist of a harem anime is bound unshakably to his role and his fate. But as someone who is out of the limelight, we have our freedom. We can more easily influence events without attracting the notice of the Powers-That-Be. Better to be a king in Hell than a slave in Heaven and all that.

Besides, the protagonist of a harem anime is always either incurably dense or terribly miserable. And as we already have an inkling of what's going on, one of those options would be closed to us, if we were in his place.

Of course, there's always the possibility that we're getting it entirely wrong, and we're the protagonist of a parody of the genre, but let's not go there just yet.
>>
>Write in
Who needs to be the protagonist?

We can be the cool character. The fun one and a fan favorite besides the protagonist, without any major dillema's or responsibilities.

>>2113606
As my man here says it wouldn't be a proper harem anime if the protagonist just had his way with all the girls in the first season. That sort of shit is saved until the end.

Before you could react, the door slides open and in comes another female.

“Rinko-chan has arrived! Senpaiiii~ I bought us some bread to eat for lunch!”

Fujimura Rinko. Kouhai, cute, sporting pig-tails that make the small girl look even younger. You check her hair: bright and fiery orange. The underclassman has always visited your class, yet somehow you never took note of something so bombastic.

The girl looks at the two girls arguing in front of Nakamura-san. “Eh? Did I come at a bad time, Senpai?”

But before he could reply, the table in front of Nakamura-san starts to rumble. And with that, from under the table, emerges a sleepy girl with hair as bright blue as the summer sky.

“Eh?!” Shouts the guy and all three girls in surprise.
“Rei! What are you doing down there?” asks Nakamura.
“Ei-chan…? I was just napping…”
“E-E-E-Eiji! That is not allowed in school property!”
“Guwoh!”
As the poor guy is hit in the face by your class rep, your mind is spinning in all different directions. Is it because of the [Awakening]? The color and information overload happening in front of you? A mixture of both?

With so many facts that need to be organized, there’s only one thing that is undeniable. All these girls, even before you have [Awoken] circled only one character: that of Nakamura Eiji.

Which means you are nothing in this universe but a [Mob Character]. Well, at least to his story.

You put a hand to your desk as you get a bit woozy. Instead of overreacting, you try to think things through, but the commotion in the room is too noisy. You step out of the classroom and head to…

>The rooftop, to deliberate what steps to take going forward.
>The comfort room, to try and collate everything we know for now.
>>
The laws of the universe speak clearly: the protagonist may be only one and he is going to get ALL the bitches.

With that meta knowledge in hand, unless we resign ourselves to our fate, following course of action lays ahead of us: we shall become the ULTIMATE WINGMAN.
We will actively attempt to direct every female body available to us in protagonist's direction and aid his harem in growing past all natural boundaries. We will literally cover him in bitches until they reach a critical mass where time itself will buckle under their competition resulting in a paradox singularity. Thus we shall bring about the end of the narrative curse and liberate the piece of multiverse we call home of its chains - or its existence. Either one would be a mercy.
>>
>>2113614
>Neither; both are too cliche and likely to get us involved in shit when we need to have space to think.
>We go to the school cafeteria, where nothing ever really happens unless the protagonist's actually there - and even then usually only if you're at the protagonist's table.

Another option is the library. I would be fine with either, really.

Also, I am of the opinion that we try and ignore the main harem protag's story as long as possible, and make our own. Thus becoming side characters.

And if we become side characters we can influence the plot easier.

>Since neither seems to be pretty prevalent, I tried to do a hybrid scenario

You step out the classroom, and met with a sea of students all making their way to their lunch spots. You let the wave take you as you head towards nowhere in particular.

Your eyes wander to the many people around you. Black hair. Brown hair. The colors of the [Mob] that you now find yourself part of. Among this sea of people, you find none of their faces remarkable or memorable. Does that mean neither is yours? You try to remember what you looked like before. It almost feels like when you used to open your own high-school yearbook and tried to remember who the person in the photo was again.

You are struck again with another headache. Yearbook…that means you have graduated from your past life, if you could view your own yearbook. As you walk around aimless, you try to focus, and discover something of note: you seem to retain bits and pieces of your past life.

But then that presents a new problem for you. You are unsure which memories are from this world, and which are from your own world. You eventually find yourself wandering not by choice, but because you have no clue where to go. In your mind, there are multiple building outlines, and you are unsure which one is the correct one.

Why do you retain some of your memories? In fact, why are you reincarnated as a [Mob Character]? Is this some sort of hell where you could only watch as another enjoys the dream of many an adolescent male? A heaven where could live your life inside of an anime? A purgatory where you are forced to relive your high school days?

For now, you reach to the conclusion to not push the parameters too much until you know more about the universe you reside in. You also have to reorganize which one is from your past life, and which one is this life’s. Play the [Mob Character] role for now, and try to figure out the rules of this game.

The bell rings, and the students start moving back to their classrooms. You haven’t eaten yet, but you don’t feel particularly hungry with all the nausea anyway. You could cut class, but decide against it as it breaks the [Mob] rule. If this universe is a god playing games with you after all, breaking the [Mob] character could be dangerous in more ways than one. You decide to play it safe.

You find another [Mob Character] that looks vaguely familiar, and decide to follow her, hoping she'll lead you back to 2-1.

>contd.
>>
Thankfully, your hunch is correct. The girl is indeed from the same classroom, and you find yourself back in 2-1 with some time to spare. You make your way back to your desk and start bringing out the textbooks for the next class. As you try to remember what subject is the next subject anyway, you spot something on the ground.

“Um, is this yours?” I ask the girl sitting to my left.

Your seatmate looks at you surprised. She looks at your outstretched hand, before nodding and taking the eraser.

“Yes. Thank you, Yamada-san.”

Yamada? You then realize that that is your name in this world – Yamada Ken.

“No problem.”

You settle back into your seat, but for some reason, your gaze remains on your seatmate. Her black hair tied back into a ponytail with a pink scrunchie, she’s cute in every definition of the word. She’s nothing compared to the class rep, nor the ojou, but she definitely has some appeal.

But then you frown as you realize that she’s also just a [Mob Character] in this world. Her face has that same trait of being almost forgettable, like characters in a manga where they don’t sketch the eyes. It saddens you to think that girls like her could just be thrown aside, disposable, just because they didn’t get the role. You somehow wonder if she’s actually just a husk inside to serve the purpose of making the MC feel normal.

You then start to wonder if you’re just a husk too.

You then start to wonder that maybe she’s a reincarnat—

“Yamada-san?”

“S-Sorry, I wasn’t sta—“

“Are you alright? You seem a bit pale.”

After you realize that the girl beside you is actually just genuinely concerned, you force a smile. With all the things that’s happened today, it wouldn’t be surprising if he looked a bit sickly.

“I’m fine, thank you…”

You try to dig up the name in your head. One pops up. Hanazawa. Hanazawa Mayumi.

“…Hanazawa-san.”

She nods, before returning to her bag. You straighten up yourself as well, wondering in the back of your mind if Hanazawa really was her name, or if you just spoke it into existence…

You glance to your right. The seat is still empty. You could ask Hanazawa-san about who sits there, but you don’t seem to be that close yet. Maybe in the future.

For now, classes are starting.

You decide to head home. After just being [Reawakened], you can’t help but feel excited at the prospect of exploring your world with different eyes. Not to mention, you don’t have memories of being member of a club. Which means, you probably weren’t a member of a club in this life nor the past.

So you head home…

Or, you want to head home, but you realize with your memories still jumbled you still don’t know how to get the heck out of this school.

After fixing your things, you head out to the hallway. Unlike last lunch time, the number of students in the hallways are few. You walk around, sometimes having to retrace your steps, and eventually end up in a fork in the road.

The road to the left is bustling with noise. The right one is quiet, bar the occasional echoes of footsteps.

You know for sure one of these ways is the exit. So you take the—

You cannot see which side the gate is from here. The Left and Right hallways both lead to stairs going down to the first floor, the Left one the noisy route, the Right one the quiet route.

You take the--

>>
>>2113715
You take the Noisy route (left). Upon descending the stairs, you find yourself puzzled. This wasn’t the way to the school exits.

Instead, you end up in a hallway with multiple rooms. The noise, upon getting to the ground floor, seems to have multiplied. You glance into one of the rooms, and spy multiple people sitting around a table, chatting while doing crochets.

You realize that this is where the clubrooms could be found.

Well, no matter. All you have to do is cross the courtyard to the other wing, where the gates are, and be on your way. You make your way there, but your steps are stopped after passing one room.

This particular club room seems to be louder and more energetic than all the others. A strange aura of melancholy washes over you as you stare at the door. A feeling similar to watching your favorite SoL anime.

You look at the sign of the room. ‘Researcher’s Club’. You can’t help but giggle. What the heck is that supposed to mean?

You hear the high pitch voice of the kouhai on the other side, the dignified sermons of the ojou, and Nakamura Eiji trying to play straight man. You could even somehow make out the snores of your classmate Tezuka Rei. You don’t realize immediately that one voice is absent.

“Hm? Why, if it isn’t Yamada-kun.”

You turn to see the Class Rep, Hikaru Ryou. She’s carrying a bag filled with drinks and snacks. Seems heavy.

I point to the noisy door. “This is your club, class rep?”
“Yes, unfortunately…” you notice her grit her teeth and mutter under her breath, “I swear this is the stupidest club in the planet,” before returning to her ace student attitude. “It’s got its faults, but all in all, the Researcher’s Club has its own charms too.”
“What do you do in the Researcher’s Club, exactly?”
“To be honest, Yamada-kun? I wish someone will tell me too.” Her tone is sweet and gentle, unlike how she usually speaks with Nakamura-san. “I encourage you to join a club, Yamada-kun. Being a part of a club is the fastest way for you to integrate into this school body.”
“What do you mean?”
“Why, being a transferee and all, wouldn’t you like to build your circle of friends quickly? The school takes huge pride in our cultural clubs. Aren’t they just a lively bunch? Oh, but if you’re more into sports, our varsities are welcome to have you as well. Did you know that our soccer team is regionally competitive? And…”
She continues talking about clubs and friendship, and you notice yourself tuning out a bit.
Hikaru Ryou. The tsundere of the harem. Yet right now, she speaks to you in perfect conduct, acting fully as the student representative. Totally opposite of how she really is around Nakamura Eiji. For the first time, you really feel that you are nothing but a [Mob Character].

So I figure we have two paths before us:

The first is to entrench ourselves in the Protagonist's orbit. Leave being a Mob and turn into a secondary character. This has the benefit of being potentially awesome, and if we're enough of a bro, we get a likely-badass girl who has zero interest in the MC. However, this is still HIS story, not our own.

Second, we forge our own path. This is filled with unknown variables AND we don't have Protag-kun to gauge ourselves against. We might even accidentally end up as the villain.

Think carefully guys. The universe won't ignore us for long, one way or another.

We cannot allow ourselves to enter the inner circle of the Protagonist. Once we enter a story we are bound to make it fall to mediocrity and awfulness. Tiss a noble curse. We CAN however change some variables and do some work in the background that will affect the story.
We should have a similar role like pic related. A person who observes the story and only acts to make it follow the path to the ending he wants, only once we are confronted with our role by the protagonist or a main character should we start entering the spotlight.

>>
>>2113835
Problem: anytime someone talks to him, we have to assume the camera is on him. He's the protagonist.

We might have better luck with the girls when they're outside of his Personality Warp radius. Then again, if we subvert them too much the show may collapse.
>>
>>2113814
>Back out. This is BAD news.
With a name like 'researchers club' this gives all the red flags for potential genre shift, as if our isekai wasn't enough. Plus, once we join, that just sets our flag from [mob] to [club memeber], letting prez's tsundere switch trigger for us by proxy.
"And you, why didn't you get MC-kun here on time/humor Do his homework/other inane bullshit?" Followed by a smack.
>>
>>2113845
That's the problem with any sort of interaction with him, unfortunately. The more mysterious we try to go, the more likely we are forced to join his club/be a part of thr main cast. Try to leave him some advice notes? Investigation squad gets on our asses and forces us to join. It's an inevitability. Try to give him advice straight forward at school? High chance for one of the girls to be spying/stalking him, either ny actually being there or he might have a hacker member. We'd need some way to talk to him without his harem being around, which is basically nigh impossible, except for maybe the hallway leading to club, if he's the last member to arrive.

Don't see the point in trying to talk to the girls. I mean, they're his girls. Unless you're suggesting we try to straighten them out of their archetypes into human being MC can actually have a conversation with.
>>
>>2113845
once we interact with anything that is inside the bounds of the narrative, we are likely to get get bound to it as well.

We need to first ascertain the nature of the world. Are there limits to the reaches of the narrative? How dead/generic is the world outside of the main cast's radius?

Will the narrative turn itself against us if we try to interfere with it?
>>
>>2113852
Questions like that are what make me wonder if it wouldn't benefit us more to strengthen the narrative while bending it how we want. Instead of damming a river, we dig a smaller side channel next to it?
>>
Clearly the solution is to jump on a train and just go. Just start riding the rails. Stay on the move.

>Back out. This is BAD news.

The clubroom is a sacred place for any harem romcoms. Nevermind the social repercussions of joining an already established social circle. Being a Mob is to be an entity lurking in the background. Pushing ourselves in the limelight can lead to dire consequences, especially if higher powers are at play after all. It could mean messing with the balance of this universe, and you might not be as lucky as to reincarnate again.
Better to stay in the shadows and actually play a [Mob Character]. You still don’t know the pieces.

“Er, sorry class rep. I actually have somewhere to go to…”
“Is that so?” Hikaru-san raises her eyebrow. You see she doesn’t believe you entirely. But she doesn’t question it, and smiles again instead. “If you say so, Yamada-kun. Remember, as your class rep, you could approach me anytime you need help. Even if it’s matters outside school, Nee-san will be there to help, ok?”
...Nee-san?
But you don’t voice your protests, and instead bow as you leave. She waves you off, and enters the club room. You haven’t even taken two steps when you hear her going all Tsuntsun again inside.
Despite everything, you grin. The tsundere thing suits her better than the class rep act, you feel.
You cross the courtyard, and exit the school gates. It is quiet around here after all. Looks like most of the student body are really part of a club. You think about joining one, before shaking your head. There are more important things to do first, like figuring out what the hell is going on.
You exit the school and begin exploring the town you transferred to.

(TO BE CONT’D)

---------------------

I think this is a horrible place to pause this, but the time here is already 3 AM. The plan was to tackle the entire day before stopping, but we’re only at the halfway point of the day. So instead, I’ll let you guys vote on a decision early that Yamada Ken will have to do at the end of the day:

What should you investigate tomorrow?

>The MC, Nakamura Eiji
>The Harem (Ryou, Mariko, Rinko, Rei)
>Hanazawa-san?
>The Setting (means cutting classes)

---------------------

When I return, we’ll tackle the rest of the day, the town, and the Yamada household. I’ll try to get back to this tomorrow, sometime before 05:00 UTC. For now, good night and thank you for reading!
>>
>>2113859
Obviously we need to make the new, mysterious "relationship counseling club" in the abandoned school building and give out advice dressed up so no one recognized us. Plot to investigate for the club and we get to dispense advice.
>>
>>2113864
>>The Setting (means cutting classes)
We have to find where we live first before anything.
>>
>>2113864
>The Setting (means cutting classes)
This is important, plus the camera is usually off during class unless the MC had to brood or pick up a dropped pencil and get a facefull of panties or something dumb. We need information. Is there magic? Aliens? Giant Robots? Or is this truly a SoL vanilla harem setting? Are we in Tokyo or some backwater? What year is it even?
>>
>>2113864
>The Setting (means cutting classes)
The first step that we should do is analyze our situation before doing anything else. After gathering some information about this world, then we can plan what we should do next.
>>
>>2113864
>The Setting (means cutting classes)
Best to get a feel of us and our surroundings. Check out the internet, our search gistory, our notes, check various locations, all that.
>>
>>2113864

>Hanazawa-san

We need allies. Maybe we can get insight into what's happened to us. Harem/MC seems like a dead end, like maybe they're not really people.

Good run BSG, fun premise! Thanks for running!
>>
>>2113864
>The Setting

Our first priority is to see the limits of this world. We need to find out if there is a whole active environment outside of the camera's view or if anything not plot related is dead.

We also need to find out how far away we can stray from the narrative.
>>
>>2113867
Is that a reference to G Senjou no Maou?
>>
>>2113864
>The Setting (means cutting classes)
What we're forgetting is that there are different kinds of harems. This might be an adaptation of a VN with an inane plot, or even just a SoL segment in a different genre. What if the larger world includes zombie apocalypse? Alien invasion? Hidden war between supernatural creatures? Undeciferable shenanigans with conspiracies, parallel worlds and consensus reality?
What if all this is the first chapter of a VN, the one where the player gets a taste of normal life before everything goes to shit? We need to ascertain potential dangers.
>>
>>2113864
>>The Setting (means cutting classes)
>>
>>2113885
Exactly this. If shit gets dangerous, we attach to the MC immediately. Nowhere safer than near him. Every harem has it's bro friend who doesn't get the girl attention, except one badass or super-spaz girl that the audience is fine throwing to him.
>>
We should also find out more about what we look like and what we're capable of.
>>
>>2113895
>Nowhere safer than near him
Unless the writer decides to kill someone off to show how serious things are.
>>
>>2113904
I'll take those odds over being a mook. Ever seen High School of the Dead? Yeah, we're either fucked or a part of a pedophile's sex cult.
>>
>>2113904
Yeah, that whole 'character growth by killing off someone close that's not in the harem' moment.
>>

Am back

---------------------

Yumegawa, you soon find, is a town made of clichés. Upon exiting the school, you find it perched atop a hill, peppered with unbloomed sakura trees on the sidewalk.
With your memories still all jumbled up, you can’t really head straight home even if you want to. So, like earlier this morning, you find yourself wandering around.
A backwater quiet town, the biggest commercial establishment could be found adjunct to the Yumegawa train station. There, a complex containing cinemas, restaurants, book stores, and arcades are located. You glance inside some stores, and note their picturesque nature, like a CG in a visual novel.
Up a hill (you find there are a lot of them here) a path that leads to a park could be found. The park itself is standard affair, with stairs leading up the hill to a viewing deck. You do not spy a lot of fellow students, mainly because the place is so out of their way, but you assume this would be crowded spots on Christmas and Valentines.
The viewing deck itself gives view to the whole Yumegawa: a suburb resting upon a hilly area, the roads a mixture of sharp and gentle slopes. Below you spot the station and the complex, starting to open their lights as orange sky turns to purple. Beyond, you could see brighter lights from skyscrapers across a bridge, and somehow, you could tell that that skyline belongs to Tokyo. The lamp-posts of the park start lighting up on their own, and so do the lights of the houses below. This is a beautiful place to be confessed to, you think to yourself.
“Or to be dumped,” you mutter to yourself.
You see a large collection of people below, and decide to follow them. They lead you to the markets of the place, and contrary to the laidback atmosphere of the town, this place is booming. Big men shouting, “Ora!” as they peddle their wares, female helpers giving away pamphlets and telling you about discounts. You find the crowd a bit too much, and end up leaving soon too.

In the end, you find yourself listlessly following one of the lazy rivers so common in Slice of Life anime. The difference, though, is that now it’s dark out, and any sane student would be home.
But you’re still lost. Your phone has died long ago, and you’re fresh out of ideas. You’re already contemplating reporting yourself to the police as ‘missing’, when you spot a man in his 30's by the river banks.

Despite the only light coming from a lamp post, he is hunched over what seems to be a motorbike, repairing it. A memory triggers in your mind. You definitely know this person, but in this low light you have difficulty remembering who he is exactly. You approach him—

>Casually, "Sup?"

“Hm? Why if it isn’t Ken-chan!” He stands up from the river banks and dusts off his hands on his pants. “Sup to you too!”
He addresses you with familiarity. This guy, is he your aniki?
“Why don’t you give your papa a hug, eh?”
He’s your dad?!? The man looks barely pushing 35!
You refuse his offer, which lead to the frowning of your old man. Though he looks 35, he doesn’t act like it though. How can someone so young be a father already?
…Young? In comparison to what?
Ah yes, in comparison to yourself. A piece of memory seems to clear up. You were 38 in your previous life. But the difference in your age seems like two decades. This man is well built, his arms muscular and with looks that never age. The type that obaa-sans fawn over is an apt way to put it.
You on the other hand…words start floating in your mind.
Acne…Greasy…NEET…
You decide to suppress those memories for now.
“What are you out doing out so late pops?”
“I was on my way home when all old speedster here gave up. I decided to fix it, and before you know it,” he points to the sky that’s now long gone black. “I could ask you the same thing, Ken-chan. What are you doing out so late? Shouldn’t you be home by now?”
“I was…wandering around.”
“Ah, I see! Yes, it’s good to familiarize yourself with the neighborhood, Ken-chan. You might prefer the bustle of the city than a quiet, underdeveloped town like this, but trust me. I grew up in an environment like this too. There’s really nothing like it.” He wistfully says, while taking a drag from his cigar.
You shrug to say you don’t have much preference either way.
“Well, whatever. It’s just your old man waxing nostalgic. Let’s head home, your mother will kill me if she gets back before us.”
He takes the bike, and a bag of what you think is groceries, and starts the scooter up. You climb into the back of the bike, and you speed off. You record the directions in your memory.

>>2114412
Oh neat, we seem to have a cool dad at least.
>>
>>2114412
Your home is a traditional suburban house, no more different than all the other houses you've seen. It’s bigger than anything you lived in in your past and present life, which you guess is the bonus of living in the suburbs. As your dad parks the bike, you bring the groceries in.
The inside of the house is nice and cozy, if a little bare. Is it because you just moved into this town? Or is it because, as [Mob Characters], furnishings are an after-thought?

Which brings into question your father: shouldn’t he be a [Mob Character] too? But…
Your dad walks in and heads for the kitchen.
“I’ll make sure dinner’s especially good tonight! I got a really good discount on chicken!”
He’s not as…forgettable. He has a personality, but personality seems to be the wrong word. Character? Whatever it is, he doesn’t give off the same aura as the other [Mob Character] students, which don’t seem all that human.
But before you could think upon it more, your dad shouts from the other room,
“Go get changed first, Ken-chan, I could call you when dinner’s up,”
You head upstairs as your dad starts up the frying pan. “Hoo hee! That’s hot!”

You immediately find your room, with the nameplate Yamada Ken. It’s all cute and childish, which brought you to the conclusion that this is probably your dad’s work. Honestly…
At the end of the corridor you see the guest room, and the room belonging to your…ah, that’s right. You have a younger sibling.
He’s…no, she’s…wait, who is your sibling again?

You view the nameplate on the door. “Yamada Kei”. After admonishing your parent’s horrible naming practice, you decide that Kei is—

Still, if our mom doesn't make an appearance sometime soon, we're almost certainly going to have to revise our outlook on all of this.

Yep, definitely a guy’s name. You think.

You could always just see for yourself and confirm it, but the lights are turned off inside the room. He’s still out this late?
You enter your own room, and find it even barer than the dining and living room. Besides the study table and bed, there’s really nothing in here. Not even an unpacked box as an excuse. You open your cabinet. Geh, even your wardrobe is plain.

Is this a side effect of being born a [Mob]? Not even in your past life were you this bland. You remember figurines, light novels, games…it’s not that much better, now that you think about it, but at least your room had personality. You catch a glimpse of yourself on the dresser mirror. Unlike your dad, you look…unremarkable. No distinctive features whatsoever. Not very much unlike your very own room.
You change into casuals and grab a manga from your dismal selection of books, and head back down.
The sound of sizzling and smell of fried chicken makes your knees weaken. You haven’t eaten since breakfast after all.
You plop down on the couch and open to a random page of the book, but your attention is not really there.
“Dad? Where’s Kei?” you try to ask casually.
“Hm? Kei’s still in Tokyo. Probably will be back one of these weekends, but that kid loves the city way too much.” You hear a knock on the door. “Answer that will you, Ken-chan?”

You head to the door and open it to find a dominatrix.
…OK, not exactly. She didn’t have any S&M equipment or anything like that. But with her serious aura, sharp haircut, piercing eyes, tight office attire, and matching black choker, her carrying a whip might not be that out of the picture.
“Ken,” she says, voice thick as sin. “I’ve been looking for you.”

…What?

>Follow her out the door. It’s trouble, but you need to get to the bottom of this

You close the door behind you. Whatever this is, it seems important. You cross your arms, and face the woman seriously. “You’ve been looking for me?”
Is she a player in this universe? An important NPC perhaps? The goddess itself?
She looks at you, expressionless, before flicking you in the forehead.
“Ow,”
“Foolish. Is that how you treat your mother, boy?”
…Huh. You don’t know how to react. Scared? Confused? Somewhat aroused?
She tosses you something. Car keys.
“Get my things from the trunk,” she says, before walking past you.
“I’m home,”
“Welcome home, dear!”
…Huh.

You head towards the garage, and sure enough, next to the bike a new white car is parked. A car? Is your family actually rich perhaps?
You open the trunk and grab her briefcase and a whole stack of folders. You were half expecting to see some handcuffs fall out.
You return back to the living room to see your dad now working on the salad side dish. Your mom, on the other hand, is now plopped down on the sofa, her feet up on the coffee table. She took off her shoes, leaving exposed her black stockings.

You head towards the kitchen, and bring out the plates from the cabinets. As you set out the mats and glasses, you catch your mom fanning herself as she unbuttons the top button of her uniform. “So hot…” she mutters.
…What the hell is this scenario?
You pause for a second to recollect, but it’s no good. You have near no memories of her as your mother. It makes this whole thing even worse.
“…Dad?” you said, sidling up to him.
“Yes?”
“You know, just been curious, but has mom always been this…this?”
Your dad seems to be confused at first, but then smirks as he seems to be getting the wrong idea.
“My, my, Ken-chan…I know you’re of that age already, but still!” He lets out a boisterous laughter. “I’m sorry, but you’re still 30 years too young to be able to bag a babe like your mother!”
Ah, that’s not really what you meant, but whatever.
Your mom looks back from the sofa, eyes narrow. “Are you saying something weird to Ken again, Jun?”
“…No, ma’am.” He reverts to an almost military solemnity, and returns to preparing the salad. Is your dad perhaps, actually a no-good type of guy after all?

Dinner time. Your dad does most of the talking, telling about his day around the neighborhood, helping the elderly or doing some part-time work. It seems your father is more of the happy go lucky type of person, going around the town and doing whatever fancies him.
Your mom on the other hand is quiet, her back straight as she eats her chicken karaage. She seldom talks, mainly to ask for the plate to be passed, but from the little she did say you gather some things.
It seems her job is in Tokyo, and she’s the main earner of this family. You assume that the company subsidizes her car, but not the housing, which explains why you moved all the way to Yumegawa.
“…But won’t driving to and back from Tokyo be bad for the environment?” you ask.
Your mom thinks about this, before shrugging. It seems she doesn’t really care either way. Whichever is cheaper, then that’s what she’ll do. You judge your mother to be the ruthless type.
Not to mention, she oozes ero. It makes the normal office uniform she’s wearing look like some sort of kink play.
But then…you fall silent as you organize the facts. Something’s not right.
Your dad and your mom…they’re a lot of things, but they are not [Mobs]. At the very least, they can be [Side Characters] even, with such interesting specs.
So, you wonder, are you the odd one out then? Is your being a [Mob] the abnormality? Or maybe it’s the proximity to Nakamura Eiji the one that turned you into this?
It might be helpful if we know more about [Mobs] themselves. Maybe if we get closer to one…?
“Ken,” your mother turns to you as she bites into a karaage. The oil drips from the corner of her lips. Mooom…
“Have you acquainted yourself with the neighbors yet? I heard they have a child the same level as you.” She says, as she wipes her lips.

>No, I haven’t.
>I have a bad feeling about this…

The hairs in your neck start standing up. Why do you have a bad feeling about this?
You prepare to ask a straight forward question. “Do you mean…the Nakamuras?”
Your mom looks at you, again narrowing her eyes.
“What? Who are the Nakamuras?”
You breathe out a sigh of relief. Being something as close as “neighbor” to the MC could spell out bad things to you who wants to maintain the [Mob] moniker. Minimizing encounters should be done, a remote observation in other words.
“No, sorry, I was thinking of something else,” you say. An idea pops into your head. “Is it a girl? The one who’s the same year level as me?”
“No, it’s a boy.”
So, it seems you won’t get something as convenient as a “girl-next-door”. That’s the life of being a [Mob Character]. At least the possibility of the neighbor being one of the harem is also eliminated.
“They just moved in a few days after us. Oh, maybe I should prepare a welcome basket,” dad says.
Your mother stands up from the dining table. “Thank you for the food. Ken, wash up then go directly to bed. You have an early day tomorrow.”
You nod as she heads off. You fix the plates along with your dad, and you end up washing the dishes.

This marks the end of the day of your [Reawakening]. As you wash the oil off the plates, you try to fix your still faulty memory. However, the memories of this universe are mixed in along with memories you would like repressed. Some memories you also start to question on whether they are real. It could just be an illusion from before you were [Awake]. The only reliable measure is to start from the beginning.

So tomorrow you shall continue to investigate. But what should your focus be on?

>An earlier vote has been made, with the winner being [The Setting] Which means you cut classes tomorrow to further investigate this universe

I'm a bit paranoid about shaking things up to much right now but once we have a good idea of what's actually going on we should try awakening someone, at least if we're pretty sure it won't cause the author to delete us or something

>However, the memories of this universe are mixed in along with memories you would like repressed.
Thinking about it, wouldn't this mean we just have two sets of memories, one of which is correct for this universe? So for any individual piece of info, if we pick at random between the two every time, we'd be correct 50% of the time, and always get the second try right?
>>

>You decide to investigate [The Setting] tomorrow

Morning. Your mother has already left for Tokyo, and your father is cooking breakfast downstairs. You wear your uniform, pack all your school things, your wallet, and your phone.

But you’re not going to school today. You’ve decided to test the limits of this world, and you cannot test that in class. Your mother could go to Tokyo, but how about you? Your mom may not be wholly [Mob] but you 100% are. Today’s all about game testing. Let’s see where the map ends.

You climb down the stairs and met with the sight of a western breakfast: toasted bread and butter. As you sit down and eat your breakfast, you view the map of Yumegawa on your phone.

And come across something interesting. There are two schools in this small town.

>What could be the significance of this?

Yeah, that was mostly just joking. No way we'd do it seriously. I would suggest a notebook or journal, but given our circumstances, that will, without fail, find a way into someone else's hands.

>What could be the significance of this?

St Agace. A private school? You wonder the significance of this school being present. Is it a potential player in future developments for the MC? And if so, could it be used to our advantage? You’ll have to drop by to find out.
But, if you were to test the limits of this world, then you’d have to leave now. You finish your plate and glass of juice and head out the door.
“I’m heading out!”
“Alright, have a good day, Ken-chan!”
You blend in with the other students making their way towards your school. You look around, all seem to be wearing the same uniform. You spot no different uniforms. With St. Agace being found on the other side of town, you’ll be surprised if one of them lives by here.
As the students turn left up the hill of the school, you follow the map and turn downhill to the right. Some of the other Mobs glance at you, but nobody stops you. The roads here are all new, but with the assistance of your GPS, you’re not bumbling around like yesterday.
Soon, the plain grey blazers of your school thin in number, and now you catch more and more white blazers in the corner of your eye. You also feel some glares on you as you walk opposite the direction you’re going to. You keep your head down as to not arouse suspicion.
At long last, you arrive at a brilliant school, with what seems like a church at the forefront: St. Agace. Up close, you can no longer deny that this school is a private school indeed.

And you stand out like a sore thumb. You feel the gazes on yourself, not just from St. Agace students but from some of the guardians as well. Crap. You’re panicking. Do what needs to be done and get out.

>Enter the school of St. Agace, and see what it’s all about.
>Hang around by the gates, ignore the looks of the students.
>Write in
>>
>>2115094

Agreed. Much less suspicious if we keep our notes and ruminations in a notebook or in an encrypted file.
>>
>>2115115
>>Hang around by the gates, ignore the looks of the students.

Look as if we're waiting for someone, like we belong here.

When we finally do have to leave, we can play it off as if we got stood up or something.
>>
>>2115115
>>Hang around by the gates, ignore the looks of the students.

>>

>>2115115

>>

>>2115094
I was asking a general question, I don't think we should go full tin foil as our personality.
>>
>>2115129
>>2115125

I mean, technically, we are, right now, barely pushing "unperson" status.

Interaction would only matter in the MC's presence, right?
>>
>>2115129
More like I'm worried we might attract the attention of a future harem member/antagonist/other protagonist here.
>>
>>2115116

>>
>>2115174
We're a mob, we're out of our mobsea.
This might actually make us stand out.
This is risky.
>>
>>2115125
Whatever we do, if we fuck up and cause a scene we're risking losing our mob status, we could probably minimize our exposure if we say we were stood up by a friend rather than a girl
>>
>>2115177
Hence why Im saying we should probably screw off and come back later, when there's less people, but apparently we should just sit at the gate, Cleary wearing a different uniform that makes us stand out, for who knows how long, when we could be doing something else.
>>
>>2115125

You're drawing enough attention as it is. Maybe you should leave and come back later. You think of what to do next.

You almost miss the sound.

It’s the tinny sound of a scooter making its way closer to you. It sounds familiar. You rode this scooter just yesterday.

It’s your dad! What now?!

Wave at him and say that we're clearing our head for a bit.

Moving to a new neighborhood is a hell of a change, and we're just taking the time to deal with the change?
>>
>>2115225
From behind we probably look like anyone else in our school. Is there a way to hide our face?
>>
>>2115225

>>

>You see a St. Agace student. Maybe you could use her?
>>
>>2115225
Just keep waking, our face turned away. Would be better if there was someone else we could walk next to for a bit, so the vision come is lowered. Our blazer is recognizeable, so take that off and maybe stuff it in our bag. If our dad sees us, then we'll just say we never got a chance to look around. I mean, he seems pretty cool about it. He's not our mother.
>>
>>2115225
>just walk
Either he sees us or he doesnt. I don't see the issue here. Our dad is pretty chill, so if he sees us I don't think it'd be that big a deal.
>>
>>2115225
>just keep walk
we can just tell pops we got lost if he sees us
>>
>>2115225

>Write in: Play it cool

You try not to do anything drastic. Instead you play it cool. You don't run, you walk. You hide your blazer away to minimize detection. He's a bit of an airhead anyway. Maybe he'll just ride past you?

You hear the scooter coming ever closer. You keep walking. You see it run past you.

...And stop a few steps away from you. Your dad looks back, and looks you straight in the eye.

"Ken?"

It didn't pay off. You underestimated how sharp your father can be.

"Dad."
"What are you doing around here? Shouldn't you be at school?"
"I'm just..."

You couldn't continue. You see your father's disappointment in his eyes.

"How'd you know it was me?"
"St. Agace is an all girls school. You really think I wouldn't notice a guy standing a head taller than everyone, let alone the same height as my son?"

You don't know what to say. In panic, you never realized that all the characters around you are only girls. You're the only guy as far as the eye could see.
You also notice all of them are Mobs. You didn't spy a single abnormally colored hair.

"Hop on, Ken. I'm taking you to school."

Your Setting investigation is cut short.

>cont'd
>>
>>2115294
Ha, at least we didn't make an even more embarrassing situation for ourselves with standing next to a girl.

Also, with a name like that, duh, it's an all girls school. I cant believe I didn't connect the dots.
>>
>>2115353
but wait....what if that school is near the protagonist house

We may need to ask our Eiji san where he lives
>>
>>2115294

The ride back to your school is quiet. Your dad does not say anything, and you’re too afraid to say a word. He drops you off at the gate, and leaves with a warning.

“We’re going to have a talk later.”

As you watch him go, you sigh and look at the time. It should be around the middle of 1st period by now. Better to enter class before 2nd period starts rather than interrupt the teacher.
And as you wait for that time to come you realize something: your dad’s already left. It might be possible to continue your investigation after all…

>Save it. You’re going to make things worse. Attend class and minimize damage.

I dunno, though, the "fuzzy memory" excuse seems a little weak to me...

I suppose it's serviceable, although it might catch more heat from our Dad and Mom
>>
>>2115396
I mean, that's literally what the problem is, isn't it? We can't fake it if it's true. And it's really outlandish an excuse to fake. I mean, waiting for a girl seems the slightly believable if false route, really.
>>
>>2115396
We could just say we wanted to see some cute girls. It would probably work with dad but mom might get pissed.
>>
>>2115366
…No. You decide to stay in school. Investigating again might cause you to make things even worse than what it is now. Better to play it safe and just attend.

But the new student skipping out on the 1st period…that’s bound to catch some attention. And “attention” is probably the last thing you want as a background [Mob] character. Brace yourself, it’s time for damage control.

A little late but great session again a few things to note

Our family seem very much not mob-like

There is an entirely other school that is full of females that are mob-like

We're still not 100% sure what genre were in right now

Also why do you guys wanna stay in the background so much afraid of the author smiting not MC-kun down from the heavens?
>>
>>2115932
I don't really care that much about whether we stay in the background or not, but one thing I am absolutely certain of is that I don't want to get near the girls. My PTSD won't let me.
>>
>>2115936

Y O R I
>>
>>2115932
sounds right.
>>
>>2115932
Yeah, I think we should try to push ourselves outside of the background, because while it's possible we might be smote from the heavens, but I think it's more possible to de-awaken...
>>
>>2115992

Maybe maintain a degree of separation with the MC or his harem? Like, the class rep seemed nice enough, she wasn't tsundere towards us. Maybe talk to her, be her friend?

Or maybe talk to the other Mob Girl, the one from earlier, get a new friend.

Romance draws the wrong kind of attention, and being a friend to the MC is a surefire way of becoming a main character. However, I'm perfectly fine being a side character.
>>
>>2115998
We can even get away with a romance if we become a part of a beta couple.
>>
I'm wondering a few things...

1. Can we "awaken" other background characters? Like that...Hanezawa girl or w/e her name was in class who we gave the eraser back to? Could interacting with the other background characters sort of "rewrite" their thought processes and bring them to the forefront, thus creating an entirely different storyline?

2. What happens when this harem anime ends? Assuming Nakamura is as dense as osmium like most harem MC's, we'll probably get a decent runtime, but what happens then? Are we gonna die? We will simply float in an endless black limbo, fully aware, after the credits roll?

I think we should be actively trying to run interference into MC's harem, if only to prolong any potential time we have to figure shit out.
>>
>>2115992

Our parents are MC-level of unique, and we keep accidentally winding up in kind-of-plot-like locations since we're lost.

I feel like this is somehow the universe being affected by our awakening. Why would our parents be so clearly un-mob when we're just another bland BG character?
>>
>>2116115
I have a theory: it's because they're former main characters of another show.
>>
Best girl never wins, we have a shot at best girl.
>>
>>2116103

>>
>>2117269
They never actually choose a girl or decide to officially bang all of them though, do they?
From what i've seen they're just stuck in a perpetual state of vying for the protags affection.

So when you think about it, stealing a girl or all of them is the morally right thing to do for all parties .
>>
>>2117426
I mean everyone involved other than us is just the authors puppet, the right thing to do would be to awaken as many people as possible without destroying the world and then letting everyone decide for themselves what they want to do
>>
>>2117448
I'm not sure if thats how the world works

>>
>>2118235
If we're acting without his knowledge, it's possible that he just doesn't know. Not like I write about every mob character. We're in a weird spot on that. As long as we don't do anything with big or far-ranging consequences, or anything that directly affects the MC or his girls, we should be safe.
>>
>>2116103
I wanna be friends with Scrunchie-san!
>>
>>2118285

>>
>>2118348
No, but there IS some sort of force at play, based on how things change in a bubble around Eiji. If there is anything watching or capable of observing, it's likely there, where the action is. Now, there may be nothing, but until we know for sure we shouldn't get too far into the spotlight. Not like we have a defined time limit to figure this out, and we can choose to butt into the action if we need to.

Personally, I want to get in there and be the MC's genre-savvy friend. Being a mob sucks.

Imo we should try to establish our character in a parallel way to the MC. Try to drain the anime-magic from this world in activities than a harem MC guy would never do. Since the cultural clubs are bound to have females in them, the possible options I see are sports clubs with only males.

I got an idea. Class Rep is nice and polite, at least away from MC-kun. How's about we ask her for help with remembering everyone, and tell her in confidence that we're having memory issues. Ask her to keep it secret and viola, we have an easy ticket to remembering the school.

sorry too excited :D

You pass the time, and soon enough second period arrives. You leave the shade under the courtyard that you were hiding in and return to class 2-1. The teacher has left, but the next one hasn’t arrived. You walk in as casually as you can to your seat and sit down.
You catch the stares of some of your Mob classmates but none of them raise any complaints. As you pull out the materials for next class, you glance at your seatmates.

Hanazawa-san is playing with her phone. She pays you no notice.

The seat to your right is still empty.

You—

>Ask Hanazawa about your missing seat-mate

"Um, Hanazawa-san," you try to come up with a topic of conversation. "Looks like he's still out, huh?"

Hanazawa Mayumi removes the gaze from her phone. She glances at you, then the empty seat to your right, then back at you. She does not say a word.

Before you could say anything else, though, the next teacher comes in. The students standing up chatting with each other return to their seats. Hanazawa puts away her phone.

As the sensei enters, he plops his textbook down at the table…
And stares at your direction. Your heartbeat stops. How could you be so naïve, to think that they’ll gloss over the new student not showing up at neither homeroom, nor first period?

You know this type of teacher. He’s the disciplinarian type, always by the school rule book. He does not say anything. He waits and stares at you in silence, his thick eyeglasses make reading his emotions impossible.

>If he wants to kick you out anyway, he might as well say it.

You wait for him to call you out. You wonder what kind of hit this will have on your reputation.

Sensei then removes his glasses, and…
Pulls a micro-fibre cloth from his shirt pocket. He wipes his glasses, puts it back on, and turns to the black board.

“Alright, turn your textbooks to page…”

…Was him staring at you just a figment of your imagination? You let out a sigh. You didn’t even realize you were holding your breath.
...No, you weren't imagining it. In 9 out of 10 scenarios that teacher would've kicked you out. Something's amiss. You're sure of it.

For now, you turn to the prescribed page and bring out your mechanical pencil…

The classes go by without a hitch. Lunchtime arrives in a blink of an eye.
The noise in the classroom is a bit more subdued compared to yesterday. Must not be an event day, as the harem, or at least not all of them, are present. The kouhai Fujimura and the ojou Kobayashi are not in sight of Nakamura Eiji’s seat. Instead, he is chatting away with your classmate dandere Tezuka and a guy wearing glasses.

>Go to lunch
>Explore the school
>Guy with gla--?

But before you could even finish laying out the choices you could pick from, two palms slam on your desk. Your neck snaps back forward. The class goes mute.

In front of you is the class rep, Hikaru Ryou. Her smile is sickly sweet.

“C-Class rep! Good afternoon.”
“Good afternoon to you too! It’s a nice morning, isn’t it, Yamada-kun? Great for a stroll?”
“Indeed, indeed. But in this fine weather, wouldn’t a relaxing nap sooth the nerves better?”
“...Cut the crap. You’re not gonna weasel out of this.”

She stands over you with crossed arms, killing intent in her eyes.

“Need I remind you, Yamada-[i]sama[/i], that homeroom starts at 8:30, and that all Koh Senior High students need to be present before the bell at 8:15?”
“...No?”
“Then what the hell do you think you’re doing?!?”

Her loud voice rings across the entire class. Surprisingly, no one even bothers to look at your direction. Hanazawa even continues to eat her tamago whilst reading her phone.
In fact, the only person looking in your direction, eyebrows raised, seems to be Nakamura-san.

“Look, Ma’am Class Rep, I could explain...“
“Go on.”
“I just got a bit lost—“
“HA?” She crooks her neck and speaks in a tone closer to yakuza than high school girl. “You think ‘cause you’re new here, I’ll take that? Are you calling me an idiot? If you’re still getting lost a month into the semester, maybe I should personally escort you?”
She cracks her knuckles.
“...No ma’am that won’t be necessary.”

She’s mad, really mad. It’s not the bashful tsun tsun of feigned curtness or coldness. No, she’s *pissed*.
...Way too angry, even. You were just playing hooky, but she stares at you as if you committed first grade murder.

“...Are you a delinquent, Yamada-san?”
“...What?”
“Have you been talking to her?”

>Who’s ‘her’?

>Who’s ‘her’?

“...Eh? Hikaru-san, who’s her?”

She doesn’t reply. Instead she purses her lips. She looks at the girl beside you, as if looking for answers from the girl with the pink scrunchie. Hanazawa doesn’t seem to notice.

“...Whatever.” She fixes her lilac hair and stares you down one last time. “I will not accept any more lates from you, Yamada-san. You need to abide by this rules *especially* as a new student. Don’t make me have to keep an eye on you. Good day.”

She turns and leaves. Your heart rate starts to slow down as the adrenalin wears off. The room has returned to its initial bustling self. The corner of the room by the window is now unoccupied. Hanazawa continues eating her lunch.

Hanazawa glances at you for a second before returning her eyes to her phone.

“Like what, Yamada-san?”
“Like…” You try to find the right words to say. “Has she always been that...bound to justice or something?”

Hanazawa ponders for a bit.
“We weren’t really classmates until this year. But from what I’ve heard, yes. She’s really strict.”

Hm. Of course being the class rep means being a duty-bound character to begin with. But there seems to be something deeper there that you’re not seeing.

Why not tell a half truth? We are new in the area and heard about another school and were curious.

Basically admit to skipping first class, because let's be honest, that's way better than creeping on girls. Be sure to mention we had no idea it was an all-girl school as well (which is true).
>>
>>2119421
We tell her that we skipped school to deal with some personal issues and then wandered around town to cool off. We're not a delinquent and we don't plan on continuing to do stuff like this. We then use the personal nature of our made up problem as leverage to get her to stop questioning us
>>
>>2119434
Act embarrassed about it too. Maybe that will make it more believable.
>>
>>2119425
And the only people who go to a school are the students? No teachers? No parents?

It's definitely not a good excuse, but it's the best we've got.
>>
Well, guys, the way I see it, if we're presented with an option to wait for her to continue, that implies we can see that she has more that she wants to say. I think we should wait before justifying ourselves in whatever bullshit way we come up with.
>>
>>2119453
Dude pretending we got lost won't work it is clear we know the way to school and can tell what our school looks like. We can and should play uo being an airhead we were curious and lost track of time.

>Wait for her to continue talking

You stay silent. This is bad. If this picture spreads in 2-1, you will surely be pushed into the limelight. Not even taking Hikaru into consideration, you don’t even know what the *universe* will do to you when that happens.

You wait for her to continue. What does she want? Is this some kind of blackmail?

Hanazawa turns back the phone to herself. She then goes and promptly deletes the photo.

“Eh?” You fail to hide your surprise. Hanazawa then continues scrolling through whatever it was she was reading.
“If Yamada-san says that he’s not a delinquent, then the picture is surely fake right?”
She yawns for a bit, but she doesn’t lift her gaze from her gadget.
“And what if it isn’t?” You find yourself saying. “What if I really was there at Agace, cutting classes?”
“So you were lying a while ago?”
“Huh? No. I’m not a delinquent I swear.”

She turns to you, and maybe for the first time ever, you see her smile.
“Then the photo’s fake.”

You sit there, a but stunned, while Hanazawa puts away her lunchbox.
“That’s some pretty broken logic there, Hanazawa-san. To believe me more than photographic evidence…”
“A photo doesn’t have to be doctored to be fake you know. A photo framed to not tell the whole story is still a fake photo.”

You sit there, observing this girl beside you. She tucks a stray strand of hair behind her ear, and continues browsing her phone.

“How did you get that photo anyway, Hanazawa-san?”
“Hm? My friend took it.”

You pause. Her ‘friend’? Hanazawa’s a Mob, you’re sure of it...then the one who took the photo, her friend, is…?

The bell rings. Once again, lunch passes by with you not having eaten anything. The students outside shuffle back in and make their way back to their seats. Hanazawa stretches her back and yawns a bit once more.

You sit there, a bit overwhelmed with everything that’s happened thus far. But before anything else, there’s something you have to do.

“Hanazawa...er, thank you. For believing me. It’s a bit hard to explain everything, but…”
From the corner of your eye, you see her shaking your head.
“Don’t thank me, Yamada-san. Thank the class rep.”

...Eh?
“She was the one that trusted you. She was covering for you since homeroom, saying that you were just at the infirmary and will be back. Everyone knew you were cutting, but she defended you with so much confidence that the picture actually did shock me when I saw it.”
“Wait, why would she be covering for me? We’re not really that close to begin with. Hikaru-san had no reason to do that.”
“Who knows? But if the class rep trusts in you, then maybe so should I, is what I think.”

The sound of chalk hitting the blackboard prompts Hanazawa to focus on her notebook. You follow suit, but in the end, you couldn’t keep your mind off of the events that have transpired…

You sit on the couch in your living room, quiet. Across from you, your parents are speaking to each other in hushed tones. You’ve never seen your father look so serious. Your mother, though, has the same sharp appearance.

After what feels like a lengthy conversation between the two, your mother pulls out a chair and sits across from you, crossing her legs. Your father stands by her right.

“So? Explain yourself.”

She’s seething. A black miasma seems to emanate from her being. It was then you realized that when it comes to intimidation, Hikaru Ryou’s got nothing on your mom.

“Mom, Dad, I would like to apologize for cutting classes this morning. It won’t happen ever again, I promise. The only reason I did it is because...I’ll be completely honest right now. Recently...my head’s been all fuzzy.”

Your mom raises an eyebrow. “Fuzzy?”
“Yes, mom. I’ve been misplacing things...forgetting stuff...just, generally when it comes to remembering things…”
“So, to remember stuff, you go spying on private school girls?”
“No mother...I can’t really explain properly what I was thinking at the time. It’s more like...in my mind something was bugging me, that I had forgotten something in that location, and I had to go there to find out. It just so happened to be the private all girls school, St. Agace.”

You aren’t -really- lying, but you’re not telling the whole truth either. You feel a bit guilty. And somehow, you know that your mother can sense it.

Your dad on the other hand,
“K-Ken-chan, that’s horrible! Why didn’t you tell us sooner?”
“Sorry, I didn’t want to worry you two so I kept it to myself. Sorry.”
“Do you need to go to the doctor? Hm, I don’t know if the hospital’s still open this time of night though…”
“Ah, no need dad. I think I’m getting better now. I just need some time, then I’ll be back in shape in no time.”

Geh. That excuse stinks, and you know it, and your mom knows it. Only your father didn’t seem to get the memo.

“Well, if you’re getting fine then that’s all that matters. Right, Akane?”
Yep, just looking at your mom it’s obvious she’s not buying it at all.

But in the end she sighs and rubs her temples. “Migraines *do* run in my family, I suppose…”
She then straightens up and stares you down again.
“I’ll accept it for now, but that doesn’t mean you get away from this scott-free. You’ve still cutted classes, and that is deserving of punishment, ‘fuzziness’ or not.”

She stands up. Your sentence is being served. “You’re grounded. Give me your phone before you sleep tonight. Go join a club or do part time. Maybe doing nothing is what’s rotting that brain of yours.”

She stands up from her seat and heads to their bedroom. After a whole day working and commuting to and from Tokyo, she must be exhausted. Then add on top of that this whole fiasco.
“Don’t mind your mom, she’s just tired, Ken-chan.”
“Yeah…” At least you seemed to have regained your dad’s trust back again.
“You know what? What your mom said actually gave me an idea.”
You turn to your father, curious. He smiles at you.

“We’re going jogging tomorrow.”

I mean, you aren't wrong...

I'd prefer waifuing another Mob character and elevating them beyond Mob status with us.

But for now I'm still curious to see if this world is only one anime genre or rather a whole bunch of them. It's entirely possible that we'll end up in a different style of show if we deviate enough.

It would also seem since we didn't sign up to be the MC's friend that role has since been filled by someone else. Random glasses guy.

Now we gotta think of a club to join. I'm thinking we need to avoid the sport and music clubs since those are already animes in their own rights.

That doesn't leave a whole lot of room though, outside of getting caught up in the MC's club or trying to find some other mob club.

Maybe ask the cute girl who deleted that incriminating photo of us what clubs there are, and if she has any recommendations.

That's where the MC is

we can hang out with the waifus, but not the MC, because who knows what would happen.
>>
Let's maybe get to know the potential waifus before deciding who to waifu?
>>
I'm starting to suspect that we're becoming main-rival. Whoever threatens the MC's harem usually fails and just works as some sort of obstacle, so I wouldn't waifu shit until we get the pres off our tail, otherwise we'd just be creating more waifus for the waifu throne.
>>
>>2121211
That would make us main cast.
>>
Rules for an average and mediocre mod life.
1) Mobs don't act, they are acted upon
When we picked up the eraser off the ground or went to the all girls school we ACTED, when the tusndere reamed us out we sat there and got acted upon
2) Mobs don't own things
Anything in someones house is a new cramp for the animator so they would keep our possessions to a minimal. We should not get anything new except a computer
3) Mobs are seen not heard
They are there to serve the MC not challagne him. They carry your food, score slightly less than you on a test, and follow your plans. They don't exceed the MC or oppose him.
4) Mobs are teammates not clubmates
A soccer team need warm bodies, a basball team needs a benchwarmer, but a club is a friend group, because they work with all their members not just the one or two "star" members.
5) Mobs don't hate. Mobs don't love.
Opinions are what chacters have, a Mob will eat uncolor slop off their shitty flakey plastic tray because changeing it is the MCs work. On the same note unless its beloved by a crowd a Mob will not put in more than a token effort to get it.
>>
>>2121310
I personally think our Awakened status and assiduous actions to avoid the insidious influence of the Harem MC as a mob character has caught the interest of the 'Viewers'.

This is something new, this is something entertaining, and now 'their' focus is on us. We are the Ensemble Darkhorse. That minor character whose action and personality has caught the eyes of the 'viewer' and becomes unexpectedly popular. Now we are subject to the demand that we be shown more often and in more situations where we react for the 'viewers' entertainment.

There is no escape from the 'viewers'. For it is us and only us. The only way to avoid this dastardly fate is to not play the quest.

Clearly our Ken is doomed.

You were woken up by your father at 4 in the morning. With your clothes already laid out and breakfast baking in the kitchen, you leave your house with the sun not even peeking out. Seeing you out wordlessly is your mother, sipping coffee and already in her office uniform.

As much as you like the guy, Yamada Jun is not exactly all that normal a person. He’s a bit of an airhead and, being the main cook and house-husband, has a surprisingly high level girl power.
Add to that, as you learn today, a bit too fitness buff.

You sprint through the road by the river, the cold morning air burning your lungs. Though you are of average build in this universe, you were never fit in your past life, and it shows. Your running is awkward. Your muscles are burning already.

“Alright, stop!” Your dad shouts from the side of the road. He looks at you, arms crossed, not necessarily disappointed but definitely not expecting your poor shape.

“D-Dad,” you say in between breaths. “D-Didn’t you say we were - *gasp* - going jogging?”
“But we are?”
This is interval training, you blockhead!

“But really now,” your dad says scratching his head. “I didn’t realize you were this unathletic, Ken-chan. I could’ve sworn you were a bit better when I saw you on your last sports festivals.”
You pause. Did your [Reawakening] affect your reincarnated body somehow?

“Well, whatever!” He returns back to a stupid grin. “Listen up, Ken-chan! The key to a long life is three simple things: exercise, women, and alcohol! But since you’re still young, and you seem to have no game, we’ll have to settle for working you out first! Wahaha!”
You’re gonna wake the neighbors up, dear father…

But, seeing your father beaming, so obviously proud of seeing his son running, does leave you with a warm feeling in your chest. And no, it’s not from all that sprinting either.

“Your old man might be unreliable sometimes, Ken-chan, but don’t be afraid to come to me for advice. Especially when it comes to women! Hahaha!”

You take note of this.

Your father looks at his stopwatch and pulls out his whistle again. “Break over! Five laps!”

...You just wish he could realize not everyone has the same idiot strength as him…

Breakfast consists of power bars and warm milk. With your dad insisting you finish the whole baking pan, you go to school gut bursting, yet dead tired. Your eyes are drooping already, despite it being, what, 7 AM?

You try to keep your stride normal after the muscles in both your legs have been obliterated. Climbing the hill up to Koh Senior Highschool is taking all of your energy, your legs wobbling with every step. You wish, it being so early, that no one would be around to spot you.

But it seems the high school kids of Yumegawa are diligent. The road up to the hill is already half filled with fellow students doing the climb, some engaged in casual chatter. Though most of them are Mobs, two in particular stand out. You had no idea the top 2 beauties come to school so early.

Kobayashi Mariko walks up alone with an elegant grace, her long silver hair flowing from her back like a river. Hikaru Ryou is also alone, but is occasionally stopped by your classmates saying hello to her.

You look around. A rare chance.

No Nakamura Eiji.

>Approach Hikaru Ryou

You try to keep to yourself, but find yourself discovered in the end.
“Oh, Yamada-kun. Good morning.”
Ever the duty-bound class rep, she greets you with a smile.
“Morning, class rep.”
She looks you up and down, then smiles. “It seems you have learned your lesson, Yamada-kun. I’m glad. Though you don’t have to push yourself to go to school this early, I won’t go as far as to discourage it either.”
“But aren’t you early yourself, class rep?”
“Sensei wanted to meet the class reps before homeroom starts later. To be honest, I’m not really an early riser myself…”

Though she still talks with that diplomatic tone, the image of a disgruntled, messy sleeper class rep is not a hard one to conjure.

You continue the walk up the hill. Did you want to talk about something else?

“Oh right, class rep, about yesterday…”
You try to find the right words to say. She says nothing, waiting for you patiently.

“Thank you. If it weren’t for you, I’d be in way deeper trouble with the teachers right now. I want to explain what really happened yesterday, but…”
Hikaru just smiles. “Whatever are you thanking me for, Yamada-kun?”
“Well, for covering for me.”
“Hmm~? I don’t think it really is deserving of any thanks though? I was just doing my duty as a class rep, right?”
You chuckle. Hikaru looks at you surprised.

“What is it, Yamada-kun?”
You wave your hands, saying it’s nothing. Just accept the gratitude, you goddamn tsundere.

“Well, whatever. I owe you one class rep. That’s a promise.”

You continue walking, but find that she had stopped in her tracks. You look back, and see that her face has turned a bit serious.

“Are you sure about that, Yamada-kun? I might just take you up on that offer someday…”

Oh god she's gonna saddle us with a fucking sidequest to get the harem protagonist to like her or some shit.
>>
"Yes, I'm serious, so long as it's within reason."

She did help us, and if she ever decides to cash in her favor, maybe we can find out more about her through helping her out.

Also off topic, I think we may be going about this all wrong in regards to why our parents aren't quite mobs. Perhaps since our parents aren't directly involved with MC, they get full personalities, as they'll never be in the same room as him. Everyone else near him becomes mobs, except for the heroines and goofy side characters and such.)
>>
>>2122119
Someone said the brother is actually a protag theory which I think it makes kinda sense.
>>
>>2122119
My theory is that Dad is a former MC and Mom is his OTP girl. It explains both of their oddities.
>>
>>2122119
So the MC just sucks the personalities of those around him, making him look attractive enough for said harem to occur? Sounds legit.
>>
>>2122133
That sounds like a posibility too, once the anime is canned and he's with his final waifu I guess there's no reason to actually have adventures, so that means us would be an uninteresting part of the universe and would explain being mobs.

I like it.
>>
>>2122085
>>”Nevermind, I take it back.”
>>
>>2122137
Maybe, maybe not. Maybe occurring stories drain the "personality" out of non-relevant characters involved in said story and it's not isolated to harem MC.
>>
>>2122085
>>”Nevermind, I take it back.”
Give the other girls the spotlight ya dumb broad
>>
>>2122137
Like if we became relevant somehow to the story of the harem MC, perhaps we'd develop an actual personality bound to our role in said story, but maybe it also limits us to being secondary as long as it interferes with the harem protag ability to look better.

I'm kinda excited for all the prospects honestly.
>>
>>2122133
We could confirm this by asking Dad about his high school days.
>>
>>2122085
>"Yes, I'm serious, so long as it's within reason."

>>
>>2122085

"Yes, I’m serious...well as long as it’s within reason,” you add. “Why, what is it class rep?”
Silence. Until in the end, she just shakes her head and smiles again.
“Ok then, Yamada-kun. Being a class rep alone can be hard sometimes, so maybe one of these days I’ll ask for your help.”

You finally reached the school entrance. “Well, Yamada-kun, the faculty’s this way.”

You bow down politely to each other and separate by the lockers. You were about to change to your indoor shoes, when you are stopped by Hikaru.

“Oh right, Yamada-kun.”
“Yes, class rep?”
“You might want to get that checked out.”
“What do you mean?”
“Your legs. The infirmary’s that way.”

Before you could reply though, she disappears once again.

You could swear you were trying to walk normally in front of her…

---------------------

Classes go by in a flash, and once more it is lunch time. The intense morning workout is washing you over with a strong dose of drowsiness.

Once again, the whole harem is gathered around Eiji’s desk. The ojou, tsundere, kouhai, dandere, and…

“Shut it, four eyes!” Hikaru’s back to full on tsundere mode. “You just want to mooch free food off Eiji!”
“Goh!”
“If you ever touch a morsel of the meal I prepared Eiji-kun,” Kobayashi-san smiles sweetly at him. “Hm? Maybe I shall rip your tongue out first?”
“Bwa!”
“Um, senpai? Are you, like, friends with this person?”
“Gwahuh!" He staggers, but he's not out yet. "I must let you know, Fujimura-dono, that I, Tokomichi Endo, am the noble steed of Nakamura-dono, and I have every right to the shares of his--”
“Ugh,” a disgusted face from Rinko-chan. “Why did such a regal name go to such a creepy pervert…”
“Hwaaaaa!” At last, Tokomichi-san falls to the ground, fainting from all the critical hits.

...What, isn’t it just your typical harem romcom bit? What caught your attention?

Tezuka-san’s the only one not riffing on Tokomichi. Instead, she carefully splits her onigiri into two.

While smiling.

You’ve never seen her smile that big before.

In fact, why is Hikaru breaking the class rep act for a Mob? How is he able to stay in such close proximity to the main harem?

You haven’t really given it any thought before, but indeed the presence of [Side Characters] should be obvious in hindsight. You just haven’t paid them any notice so far.

They aren’t as unremarkable as [Mobs], but neither are they as flashy as the main girls. So, in theory, they are the hardest characters to detect in your position. In fact, Tokomichi seems to be the only [Side Character] you have marked with certainty.

Your mom and dad...you’re sure that they aren’t. So is interaction with the main character the requirement to become a [Side Character]? Then that means all [Side Characters] are close, or will be close, with the Main Character.

Darkness, yet your body is in full view, nude. You look down. You see the bulging stomach, the acne on your skin, all your imperfections in plain sight.

This is your body. This was your body. Your dead body. The results of all those years of chasing the carnal, the calls of the flesh, of sloth, of apathy.
Congratulations. Here is your prize.

You lay on the morgue, blanketed and nude. And you lay there unvisited. Rotting. Alone.

alone alone alone alone alone alone Alone Alone ALONE ALONE AL--

Someone shakes your shoulders. You flounder in the darkness, grabbing air, for there is nothing, and there is no one, there left.

---------------------

You wake up heart racing. It’s just a dream. It was only a dream.

Someone once again shakes your shoulders. “Yamada-kun?”

You turn your neck, but your eyes, having just woken up, are glazed and cloudy. “Yamada-kun?”

You wonder who it is, so you call out her name--

“Ah...class rep, how could I help you?” It took you a few seconds to realize just who you were talking to. “Wait, I can explain--”

“We’ll talk about you sleeping later. For now,” she motions to the room. You find that the seats are empty. Has class already ended?

No...the class isn’t completely empty. It’s just the boys that are gone.

The eyes of all the Mob girls are on you. Including Hanazawa.
Oh right. Next class was gonna be PE.

“Get out, maybe?” says Hikaru with a smile, before promptly kicking your ass out the hallway.

“Ow…” She didn’t even give you time to grab your change of clothes. You leave the hallway and find a place to wait for the girls to finish changing.

“Hm...that was a nasty dream, though…” But you know better. That wasn’t just a dream. That was a piece of your past life.

“Did I say something weird to the class rep…?” You felt like you blurted something you didn’t mean to while you were half asleep.

You arrive to the field late. The male PE teacher eyes you as you walk in, but does not say a word for now. The boys and the girls have separate PE classes, and the male teacher is a huge man that looks halfway between a bear and a gorlla. The boys are in the middle of their warm-ups and have already partnered up with each other. You find yourself alone.

That’s to be expected anyway, since the males of Class 2-1 are odd numbered. But aren’t we a pair short…?

“Sensei! I’ve brought Micchan to the infirmary!”
You hear the sound of jogging behind you. Your blood runs cold. You try to deny it. It’s not him. You look for an escape. There is none. It’s not him.

“Hm? Don’t you have a partner yet, Yamada-san?”

You turn around, and see the face of an average guy with a kind smile.

“Oh, sorry. I don’t think we’ve been formally introduced. I’m Nakamura Eiji! Look forward to working with you.”

He smiles and nods. “Then, let’s get to it, Yamada-san.”

You do your stretching in sudden. The pain of your legs from this morning has yet to subside, but you’re too scared to even notice it. A wrong step here could mean something bad. It could mean [Erasure].

“Well, you’re not wrong...I think what I wanted to say was I don’t want to be so formal with each other. If that’s alright with you?”
You don’t seem to see a problem with that. You nod.
“Great! Oh, and almost forgot,” he turns away from you and towards the PE teacher. “Sensei!”

The teacher approaches Nakamura-san, eyebrows furrowed.
“Sensei, I think Yamada is injured. He couldn’t stretch all that properly a while ago.”

The big teacher looks at you, eyes narrowed, as if wanting to say something.
“I-It’s true, sir.” This could be your opportunity.

He looks at you, then at Nakamura, then back at you. Finally, he points to a tree at the far end of the field.

“Wait there. You’re excused.”

Both you and Nakamura bow down to Sensei. Nakamura offers to assist you in going there, but you decline. Though the distance is a bit far, you make your way there slightly limping.
When you arrive, you find that there is already another person waiting there under the shade. A girl.

You sit some distance from her, not too near to look too eager, nor far enough to seem rude. But your consideration seems to be for naught, as she doesn’t even notice your presence.

Instead she’s staring off into space. No, when you look at her closer, her gaze is fixed on a specific something. Or someone.
You follow it to the field, to where the boys are playing soccer. You see Nakamura get the ball, and lose it in typical MC fashion. But he smiles, gives a thumbs up, and continues to chase after the ball.

You see the slightest hint of blush in Tezuka’s cheeks. Her breaths are shallow, and she embraces her knees as she watches. Tezuka-san has a reputation for being a sleepy, airheaded kind of person, but right now she’s wide awake, watching Nakamura play soccer.

She doesn’t need to say a word for you to know. This girl’s in love with Nakamura Eiji. And so is Kobayashi-san, Hikaru-san, and Fujimura-san. He really is the MC after all.

And you survived your encounter with him. Though you don’t know the ramifications of this interaction yet, at least you find yourself still alive in this universe and not [Erased].

You lie down on the grass and close your eyes. Congratulations.

Yori was bravest, not as forward as Nina though, who was just wrong genre savvy.
>>
BTW I just realized we hit 750 already. Is it time to start a new thread? What's the limit for this things?
>>
>>2123189
Yeah I'd start a new thread. This thread has been incredibly long, I'd go fresh before we hit image limit.
>>
>>2123189
You should start a new thread tomorrow. It'll still be a while before this one falls off the board though.
>>
>>2123184
This is actually ok with me. The obvious increase in budget means we have more interest in the show.
>>
>>2123189
Long Threads like this tend to die around 1000+ posts, because this board is slow as molasses, however this thread is both Over Bump Limit and Pass the 3 Day Refresher, so it will die eventually, i'd say it has another day left in it at the minimum, its up to you really

Unless the budget wasn't increased and production starts complaining about why a mob character needs so much resources.

implying key animator did it on her own time because Yamada reminded her of someone she knew who got Truck-kun'd recently
>>
>>2123189
Just please link new thread.
If this one is still here.

Inb4 you fuckers manage to get the poor neet guy erased and/or cucked.
>>
>>2123718
If you mean MC's [side character] buddy, I'm pretty sure he's already cucked by the fact MC exists. Harem protagonists make laughingstocks of us all.
>>
>>2123720
This could still turn out to be an NTR hentai with the MC as the cuckold.
>>
>>2123786

Hmm, while we are basically faceless, I am pretty sure we aren't an old man. NTR doesn't usually include fellow highschool students, so I think we can safely rule that out.
>>
>>2123797
NTR with the resident delinquent isn't uncommon.
