It is the rustle of birds in the trees above you that wake you from your long rest. Cracking open your eyes the blue of the sky makes its way through the branches. Sitting up you stretch, your limbs sore from the treck you had started the day before. Looking back down the trail you could barely see the angled roof of your monastery peaking above the treetops. It had been an auspicious event, to be picked to go out into the world; Ever since you could understand it, there was a tournament held every few years to determine who was the prodigy of the Monastery.

It was said by your Master, Khara, that this tradition had been held for generations, involving some story of a wicked spirit tricking a monk from the monastery to wander the world; However at every turn the monk persevered and in the end ascended to become a Kami. While many people saw the journey as a lesson in perseverance and dedication, it was still honored to this day. Students of every age would compete to determine who was the most skilled student and given the opportunity to follow in this great ‘Spiritual Test’ and follow in the footsteps of the story.

Even at the age of fourteen you had managed to somehow come up on top. Master Khara had never been so proud of you though you could see that behind his pride was a great deal of worry. It was no secret that you. Like many of the other students at the monastery, you had been an orphan and it was thanks to Khara that you were the man you were to day. He had become like a father to you, and to him no doubt a son; How could any loving father not be worried for a son going out into the world with just the clothes on his back?
>>
>>2096751

It came as a surprise to both yourself and Master Khara at the time, your final opponent left out cold in the middle of the courtyard. Being fourteen years old you were the middle of the pack when it came to the students who partook in the tournament and you had not expected to make it to the very end. However rules were rules, and your victory came with it the measured excitement for the future. You are still young enough to be enamored with the adventure but old enough to see it would be a journey of self-discovery. Still you packed your few belongings and a few rations of food and after a tearful goodbye, went on your way.

Getting to your feet you continue your morning stretches before settling into a steady rhythm of Measured and Perfected Motions.

Alongside reading, writing and education Master Khara trained you in the style of the Monastery, as all the boys before you were. Ever since you could walk you were always waddling and imitating older boys, and by the time you had started your actual instruction it was evident you were a prodigy. But an aptitude and brains alone would not have won you that tournament, and it was your mastery of the art of hand-to-hand combat that allowed you to be where you were now.

The Dancing Swallow was the primary form of martial art taught at the Monastery, as it was shaped from the early history of the monks that would come to inhabit it. In the very early years nearly three centuries before, during the Reign of an Evil Warlord, the monks were some of perhaps the most oppressed peoples; As the hope and charity they would show to victims of the struggle would often turn those who fled into freedom fighters who would oppose them. For this reason the once prominent series of temples were destroyed and the monks executed publicly.

In the light of this a man by the name of Kizen who himself was a student of a great martial artist, came forth.

The style that would eventually come to fruition was that of The Dancing Swallow style. Due to the time in which it was created, the style focused less on the ideals of self-defense and more on ensuring that opponents would not be able to threaten the monk's life again. While the style focused on this unrelenting style of fighting, it also focused on ensuring the monk’s safety. This meant that many of the strikes were rapid and sweeping blows that continued to rain down without restraint.

In the years after the tumultuous time that spawned it, The Dancing Swallow was pushed into obscurity. However while few still knew the style, those that practiced it still maintained the elegance and power of it’s style. You yourself had become a walking tapestry of it’s power, your arms and legs capable of lashing out and dealing powerful blows in an unending stream of flesh and bone. You had even mastered the art of armed combat with the style, a peculiar pair of weapons to be sure.

Born of the rush to learn and master, The Dancing Swallow’s weapons were...unusual to say the least.

As they were a monastery and not an armed institution, the weapon of choice at first were Iron Fans. While they were traditionally used for things like ceremonies and dances, the Iron banding and Ribs were reinforced. This resulted in weapons that had impressive physical damage while being both concealed and light. Later models made use of extending blades and a more rigid folding material, allowing for the use of slashing and even throwing attacks.

Finishing your routine of Kata you looked over what few belongings you had taken with you. In addition to the bedroll, cooking implements, small rations and knicknacks Master Khara had given you:
>A. A pair of old bladed War fans, the weapons of The Dancing Swallow
>B. A Rope Dart for hunting and trapping animals
>C. A Pair of Ceremonial Swords, perfect for intimidation and combat.

While they were certainly older, the pair of tucked away fans was more sentimental than truly practical. There were notable spots of rust on some of the ribs, and the blades were thinned from use, however to you there was no better a weapon as it was once Master Khara’s pair. It had been his parting gift to you with the promise that one day you would return with a pair of your own. You had promised yourself to try and use them as sparingly as possible, as while they were still useful, they were close to the end of their shelf-life.

Giving a fond smile to the pair you made your way to the nearby river that ran the forest. Watching the flow of the river your reflection met you, distorted and bending as the river carried on to the sea. Your hazel eyes gave away your youth, framed by the little baby fat that remained in your cheeks. Above the shortened spikes of jet black hair danced like leaves in the wind, shining ever so slightly with the grease of the last evening's slumber.

Stripping yourself of your uniform and leaving it folded neatly by the shore you brace yourself before jumping into the river.

The feeling of the freezing water sends a bolt of cold through your spine, all the heat in your body being left in your core around your heart. Enjoying the feeling of the slight current around you, you push yourself up to the surface before paddling to the shore to keep yourself from drifting away. Grabbing the bar of soap you lather up your hair before quickly climbing back up to scrub yourself down. Now covered from head to toe in a nice lather you jump back in, feeling cleaner already.

You let yourself relax for a little longer, you swim along the river's breadth with ease before the rumble of hunger makes you realize you have yet to eat breakfast. Letting yourself dry by the riverbank you quickly dig into a few rice balls, the warmth of the sun a pleasant contrast to your recent dive. Finishing your meal you dress and pack up belongings before continuing for the road.

For a good hour the only thing you hear is the rustle of birds and small critters dancing around the forest around you. That changed with the high-pitched whine of something you could only assume was a motor vehicle. While you had not seen many motor vehicles a few had come to visit the Monastery before and the sound was close enough to guess. Now the only question was would they be kind enough to lend you a ride?

Taking off into a jog you follow the noise as best as your ears allow you, trees blurring as you pick up the pace. You’re thankful for your morning stretches as you move along, the clearing to the road only a few feet ahead of you. Coming to a halt you can see a short distance away a motorbike trundling along the hills. You smile at your fortune as you attempt to wave it down, sure you’re a bit ahead but there’s nothing wrong with starting early!

As the bike gets within a few hundred feet the bike begins to slow, finally crawling to a halt perpendicular to you. As the rider steps out you immediately realize that they are female, given the dress and bow that topped the ponytail she had. You cease your waving and give the newcomer a smile.

“Hello!” You exclaim, bowing ever so slightly in gratitude that she stopped.

“Hello yourself, what can I do for you?” She asks, the slightest hint of a smile on her face. How strange.

“I was wondering if you could be so kind as to drive me to the nearest town? I know it’s in the way you are going but it is rather far to walk.” You ask.

The girl pauses for a moment before looking at a small hand sized device. Pressing a switch on the top it begins to beep in a steady, high-pitched tone.

“I could certainly do that, however I’m also on a bit of a mission so if you wanna ride you’ll have to go on a detour, if that’s alright with you?” She offers.

You nod in acceptance, as even a few hours detour is better than a few days of hiking. Making sure your small bag is secured to your back you approach the bike as she straddles it once more, making sure not to put your hands in any place she might find an issue with. Master Khara had taught you to be a gentleman after all, and you wouldn’t wish to lose the ride you now had.

The initial burst of acceleration catches you off guard, but you manage to keep yourself from falling off. The ride is mostly silent besides the rumble of the engine before the girl speaks up again.

“So what’s your name, cutie? I’m Bulma.”

That’s right, In your haste to hitch a ride you had completely forgotten to give the girl your name! Master Khara would kill you if he ever found out!

“My name is Caff.” You reply.

“So what are you doing heading out so far? Did your monastery run out of water or something?” She asks.

You laugh and shake your head “We have plenty of food and water and the land around the monastery is fertile. I’m actually on a...bit of an adventure I guess you could say.”

“An adventure huh? What kind of adventure could you be on? You look younger than me?” She continues, settling into the conversation between the two of you as the trees and hills speed by. You tell the girl all about the tournament and how you had ended up winning and what that meant for you. That as of yesterday you were on a journey of self-discovery and were traveling the world with that mission in mind.

Bulma seems to digest this for a moment but gives you a smile, far wider than you were comfortable with. “So you don’t really have a destination huh? Just sort of a wanderer?”

You nod.

“Well, how about this? I’m on a journey myself but it could get dangerous and well...you can probably tell i’m not the most threatening girl.” She tells you, and you can’t help but agree given the lack of muscles and focus on makeup and skin care.
Master Khara had warned you of girls like her, and the temptations they could lead you down.

“O..kay, what are you proposing?” You ask.

“You’re good at fighting yeah? Mind sticking around to protect a defenceless, beautiful girl?” She cries, and you are practically certain she would swoon if she weren’t driving the bike.

You shrug. “I don’t see why not, I have no idea where I’ll be wandering so maybe it’ll be better for me to have a sense of direction. Even if it means I’m along for the ride.” You answer.

To this Bulma cheers, happy that you’ve accepted her offer.

“When we get to where We’re going going I’ll explain what we’re doing but other than that i’m glad to have you aboard!” She tells you before screaming.

You feel the bike Jerk to to the side and looking past Bulma you realize the reason for her concern. There was a massive fish moving along the road ahead of you and Bulma’s panicked turn was not enough, the bike still skidding towards the massive beast. Your reflexes take over as you wrap your arms around the girl's waist, bringing your right foot up you do your best to swing yourself onto one side before planting your foot on the seat. Kicking the seat the bike begins flip as you soar upwards into an arcing flip. As you move through the air you maneuver Bulma as best as you can in your arms so that by the time you hit the ground in a crouch she is cradled safely in your arms.

“You alright?” You ask, standing to your full height.

“Y-You saved me.” She stammers, to which you nod.
“I’d be a rather poor companion if I let you get hurt.” You reply with a smile.

Bulma doesn’t seem to be reassured by your words but nevertheless worms her way out of your grip. Looking at her you gesture to behind you as you cautiously approach the crashed bike, slowly getting into a combat stance. You have no idea exactly what it is you will find but the answer comes to you.

“Hey you Monster! This is my fish! Hi-yah! Rahhh!” You hear as no doubt a child attempts to...attack the motorbike?

How odd.

Your confusion turns to stunned silence however as the boy manages to lift the bike straight above his head and throw it towards your general direction. You quickly pick up Bulma and jump, pressing your feet to the roof of the flying bike, riding the metallic wreck back to earth. Helping Bulma back to the ground. The boy looks at you and seems more surprised that you are there than that he had just thrown a whole motorbike at you.

“Ah! The monster had ghosts in it!” The boy says and charges.

While the boy is shorter your greater reach and speed more than makes up for it. The wild strikes that the boy unleashes are easy to read and your hands are quick to swat away his punches, following the momentum and returning with strikes with the opposite. This seems to only enrage the boy as you redirect his blows and use his energy to continue with swatting punches and snapping kicks. However all of this grinds to a halt when you feel something furry coil around your wrist and pull you down into a brutal uppercut.

You feel the lights go out in your head for a second as the blow rings true, revealing the incredible power of the boy as you feel yourself go skyward in an arc. Tucking into a roll you bring yourself into a crouching position. Keeping low the ground you spring forward, your upper body twisting at you extend your hands out in a double palm strike, pushing the boy back to the fish he was so busy guarding.

“I’m not here to fight you.” You warn him “And I am no ghost, I’m a boy like you.”

“Yeah Right! Where is your Tail?” He demands, pulling the small red staff from his back.

“Power Pole Extend!” The boy cries, and you’re immediately in panic mode as the staff begins to glow with a strange light before it suddenly begins to grow, expanding outwards at an incredible rate. Twisting to the side you bring your arms up, the ‘power pole’ rustling the fabric of your uniform as before it finally stops against a tree a few yards behind you. Rushing forwards, you duck beneath the staff as the boy attempts to retract it. Just as it retracts to its base form you are right on top of him and deliver a pair of downward chops to the boy's chest, following up with a roundhouse kick.

You watch as the boy rolls to standing “Hey, you’re pretty good hahahaha!” He insists, smiling.

“You aren’t so bad yourself, but again I’m no ghost, just like you.” You tell him, relaxing.

“B-but you don’t have a tail! Did you lose yours?!” He exclaims, walking around you and noting that you do not have a furry muscle sticking out from the base of your spine.

“I never had a tail.” You explain “As far as I know most boys don’t have tails.”

“But what about him?” he asks, pointing to Bulma.

For a moment you are almost certain that the young boy is joking, but his genuine confusion makes you realize that there is no doubt. He has no idea that Bulma is a girl, even if it should be rather obvious even to the most simple child. Did he not have parents? Or was it just something he didn’t know because of...whatever reason.

“No uh...she’s a girl. You know, the ‘fairer’ sex.” You explain, doing your best to ignore the equally baffled look from Bulma.

“But what about her tail!?”

...this was going to take awhile.

Before you can continue this dialogue however Bulma finally has had enough. “Hey! What is your deal kid? How do you not know what a girl is?” She asks, marching up to the two of you.

The boy looks down for a moment but gives a blinding smile “Well, you’re the first girl i’ve ever met. The only other human i’ve ever known is my grandpa, Gohan. However he told me that if I ever met a girl I should be polite as I can”
That seems to give Bulma a bit of reassurance. “Seems your grandpa is a great guy if he is giving you that advice.”

The Boy nods before looking up at the sky and seemingly being shocked “Uh-Oh, I should probably get back to grandpa now!” He exclaims before rushing back to the fish and waving his goodbye before beginning to walk his way down the road.

“Strange kid.” Bulma mutters, with you nodding in response.
>>
>>2099158

Bulma looks back at the wreck in dismay before walking up to it and pressing a small button on its ruined side. In a burst of smoke the bike vanishes, in it’s place is a small capsule about the size of your pointer finger; A completely black band surrounding it. Looking back at the small device she had used before she gives a small smile.

“Looks like we’re in luck, what we’re looking for is a short trek up the road. We can walk with the kid for awhile if you want.”

You see no reason why not, and after allowing Bulma to lead the way given she is the one with whatever doohickey was actually leading you where you were going.

“So...what are we looking for?” You ask, stepping in line with the girl.

“Dragon Balls.” She says casually, more focused on the small beeping circle in her hand.

“Dragon...balls?” You repeat, unsure exactly what she is referring to.

Your confusion seems to snap her out of it, as she places the small beeping object on her hip and reaches into the small pack that was on the other hip; What she retrieves you can only describe as fascinating. A sphere roughly the size of her hand that seemed to be made of crystallized sunlight, perfectly rounded and without a blemish to be seen. Set inside the gem was two small red five pointed stars, equidistant from both the outside and one another. You had never seen such a bauble in your life and it certainly peaks your interest.

“This is a Dragon Ball. Legend says that there are seven of them all around the world and if they are brought together you can summon a great dragon that will grant a wish! I almost got a second one last week but somehow it moved really far away overnight so I guess i’ll have to get it later” she starts, before she gives you a grin. “I mean We have to get it later.” she reiterates. The thought of potentially benefiting from a wish makes you smile, and you’re already looking forward to the journey.

“Huh? Hey! How did you get my grandpa?!” A voice suddenly exclaims, and sure enough the boy is in front of Bulma, attempting to prod at her with his power pole.

“What are you talking about, this is a Dragon Ball.” Bulma argues.

“No! It’s my Grandpa! His spirit is in there!”

This makes Bulma pause “You mean you have one of these balls too?” She asks

“You mean there are more Grandpa's out there?” The boy asks, and you’re pretty sure you can feel a blood vessel bursting at the sheer rock headedness of the child.

That is, of course, until a deafening roar breaks the relative tranquility of the valley as a massive metallic beast rumbles ahead of you in the sky. This doesn’t go unnoticed by anyone and Bulma looks at you in a panic, her mind no doubt running a thousand miles an hour.

“They must be after the Kid’s Dragon Ball!” She exclaims, before looking at the boy in question.

“Say, what’s your name anyway? I don’t think ‘kid’ works.”

“Oh...I’m Goku, nice to meet you!” The now named Goku says, however Bulma is already speaking.
>>
>>2100079

“See that big thing in the sky? I think it’s after your Grandpa.”

No sooner that these words leave her mouth that Goku seems to be screaming in a panic and rushing down the road at quite the clip. You don’t even wait to get any orders, you’re already aware of how important those Dragon Balls would be. Looking up at the plane your feet carry you forward as you bring yourself as low as you can and take off in a sprint.

You feel the earth beneath your feet practically shake as you surge ahead, even Goku blurring behind you as you continue to rocket across the ground; Your prey is gone from the sky, but you know they cannot be far ahead of you. As you run, the path becomes far more forested until it disappears entirely, thus forcing you into the trees. It amazes you at first with how easy it is for you to adjust to jumping and swinging from the trees and vines. You had never done such things before. Sure, at the monastery you had goofed around with the other students and managed to do some impressive acrobatics, but you’d never had believed you would ever be THIS good.

Putting that fact into the back of your mind, you see the large metallic plane beneath you and so you make your way down to the ground once more. Just as you touch down you see a duo making their way out of a small home in the center of the clearing. One is truly a mountain of a man carrying a large rifle upon his back while the other, a woman, was far more petite. As you watch them step further away you see in the woman’s hand is a small bag with a hand sized lump deforming it. No doubt the Dragon Ball Bulma had warned you they were after.

You can’t let them get away.

“You there, Halt!” You order, glaring at the duo. “Drop the Dragon Ball and I won’t have to hurt you.,” You add.

The Girl gives out a laugh before looking at her companion.

“Bongo, get rid of the brat.” She orders.

At her words the man slings his large rifle from his back and takes aim.

Your heart races and adrenaline pumps as you watch the man’s hand squeeze down on the trigger in what seems to be slow motion. The loud bang and the flash of the muzzle seems to be only a split second later and you’re pretty sure you’re hallucinating but….you can see the bullet?

That’s not possible, right? Right?

Watching this a second bang and flash happens and your insanity is confirmed that you can in fact see the bullets moving at you; They are moving fast certainly but you can SEE them. This leaves you with two choices. Do you move to cover or try and take the fight to them?

Master Khara never taught you to be a coward.

You kneel into a crouch and with a sudden surge you jump with all the strength you can, rocketing you straight up into the branches. As you continue to ascend you grab the two collapsed fans off your hips and with a flick they snap open, gleaming in the high morning sun. the shots are continuing to ring out but with your enhanced adrenaline- fueled senses you can see that even Bongo is afraid at the sheer fact that in what seems like a blink of an eye you have all but vanished. You can hear the yelling of Bulma and Goku just behind you but you maintain you focus on the threat ahead.

Touching down onto one of the larger branches you jump again, the branch assisting as you are catapulted into the sky, the sun at your back. You can see that Bongo is already trying to move his gun into position to get a shot at you but it’s too late. Crossing the fan over your torso you suddenly extend your hands out, flicking your wrists and sending the two bladed fans towards the man below you. One of the many skills you were taught in your years was to take advantage of your rigid fans as throwing weapons with an unpredictable arc of attack.

The fans whistle through the air as they criss cross each other's flight paths on a straight course towards the man and his rifle.

“Ken'yoku kōgeki! (Sword Wing Strike!)” You cry as you plummet after the two fans, curling into a ball as you approach the ground.

With each rotation you see the brief closure of the fans before they slice through the rife like butter and burying themselves in the dirt. As they impact you’re right behind them and you uncurl, slamming your heel into what you hoped would be his head, however it turns out to only be his large meaty arms.

“Heh, stopping that was easier than picking lint from the navel.” You hear the low rumble of the man's voice before he groans as the sound of something cracks into the man’s chest.

Flipping away you almost end up straddling the power pole beneath you that had no doubt been the reason for the man’s pain.

Looking back to Goku you give him a thumbs up as he had just saved you from the boulder like fists of the man before you. Before you can celebrate your victory, you hear the slight ‘clack’ of something to your right. Upon turning to the sound, you realize that Bongo's female companion had armed herself in your excitement to stop the mountain of a man. This wasn’t like the last stunt you had pulled, as you were far closer than you were comfortable with and it seemed that Goku had eyes on the big guy for now. This left you to deal with the potential of getting shot. However you were not going to let yourself lose your cool and so you began to move.

You couldn’t possibly hope to dodge them outright, so you instead opt to dive towards the ground ahead of the woman. A shot rings out and you feel a sharp sting in your left shoulder but you continue your roll, another pair of shots heating the air around your head as you come back up. By the time she’s ready to shoot again you are right on top of her and with your right hand you swat the gun to the side before bringing your left foot up into her ribs. She’s not as green as you thought as she quickly locks your leg to her side while bringing the pistol back to bare.

It is too late however as you jump with your leg, twisting mid-air and kicking the woman square in the temple. With this she collapses in a heap, with you going down with her.

The moment you hit the ground your left shoulder explodes in pain again and looking at it you immediately see why, there is a small hole no larger than your index and middle finger in your uniform. What was strange to you however is that none of your uniform had been stained or ruined other than the hole. Was the woman using rubber bullets?

Turning to look over at Goku you find that the boy had handily taken down Bongo, leaving the Dragon Ball more or less unguarded.

Slowly you sit up wincing ever so slightly as the sting of the impact still sending throbs of pain along your shoulder, back and arm. Goku is going through with tying up the man as Bulma comes to check up on you. As she approaches she is incredibly happy at your accomplishment, however she pauses and runs over to you in a panic.

“Y-you’ve been shot!” She exclaims ash she tries to push you back down onto the ground, however you refuse to let her do so.

“I’m fine Bulma, see?” You ask, showing that beneath the slight hole in your uniform you were only bruising if anything at all “They must have been using non-lethal bullets.”

Bulma looks at you as if you were insane before wrenching the gun from the unconscious woman’s hand before pointing it at the door of the house and squeezing the trigger until the gun stopped firing. Slowly turning to look at what she was trying to do you notice that, sure enough, there were a series of small finger-sized holes in the wood. But...but that meant that.

“So I was actually shot!?” You exclaim before the pain in your shoulder explodes into another burst of agony. You collapse back onto the ground as Bulma nods, walking beside you before retrieving the Dragon Ball from the pouch.

“My Grandpa!” Goku exclaims as he runs up to Bulma with a clearly relieved look as he swipes the ball away from the girl, much to her dismay.

It seemed that Goku refused to part with his Dragon Ball, however you were far more concerned and shocked that you had been shot yet it did not puncture your skin. You close your eyes just to let your mind try and slow down from the millions of thoughts that were now dancing in it when Bulma perks up again.

“Hey, Goku? Why not join up with me and Caff here? I’m sure there are more of these bad men after your Grandpa, and you know what they say: There’s safety in numbers.” She asks, already walking past you towards who knows what.
>>
>>2103308

“Haha sure! It’ll be fun to see the world with Grandpa- huh? Why are you going over to that bird?” Goku replies, before he too begins to walk off.

Deciding that you didn’t have time to rest you make the slow and painful process of getting to your feet to see what they are up to. Bulma is inspecting the plane the duo had come in while Goku is poking it with his staff. Being careful not to agitate your wound you quietly retrieve your fans before joining them.

“-You mean you can fly this bird?” Goku asks before leaning into the body of the machine a sniff.

“Sure thing, seems easy enoug- Hey Goku! No, stop biting it, it’s not an ACTUAL bird!” She exclaims, grabbing the boy by his shoulders and doing her best to pry his jaw from the fuselage.

Truly a strange child.

After a few moments Bulma manages to pop open the Cockpit and within a few minutes of that the plane’s engine is humming to life as she looks at both you and Goku.

“She’s all good to fly but she doesn’t have a lot of fuel left. It’ll be a lot faster than traveling on the ground though, so let’s put it to a vote; Should we take the plane?”

> Do you?

>compellingly good and well written product
So... not Dragon Ball?
>>
>>2103415

Well, I guess what I should ask is how does it look so far. Does it seem better written than the others on the market?
>>
>>2103421
It looks like we got shoved into canon without any impetus from the player's part, really.

>tfw no adventures with an OC Tigerman in the woods or going out and hanging with Yamcha and PUAR until eventually running into Goku and Co.
>>
>>2103444
The no Vote could have very well made that happen, dear reader.
>>
>>2103421
The writing itself is good, better than other DB Quests I would say, but so far the story has a rather week start.

Being a monk is interesting, but otherwise it's really similar to the beginning of Dragonball Quest. Though to be fair that quest was decent up until Majunior. Or whenever SOM asspulled Goku into killing Tofoo.
>>
>>2103453
Ah but the Yes vote didn't have to lead directly to Bulma. It goes both ways. I don't begrudge you for it since of course anons were going to vote yes I'm just personally tired of Goku.

>>
>>2103471
>I'm just personally tired of Goku.
I agree, fuck Goku.

You could have done a Dragon Ball Sai kind of deal with Vegeta instead of Goku.
>>
>>2103499
It's thread one, why don't we give him a minute before we start talking smack about the quest's story.
>>
>>2103499
Well, one idea I had was we would just be goku but have spent our life at the monastery.

As for ideas there are plenty of ideas we just need to get towards them.
>>
>>2103508
Because just dropping the PC into canon is the second laziest way to start a quest.
>>
>>2103517
To be fair, there are few ways to create a character in the already existing canon other than something similar to having another factor in the events of the canon story.
To me at least it seems like a good way to get the character in on the action and let the audience see how their choices shape the canon story and how they form the new character's own unique story in this universe.
>>
>>2103517
If it's anything like Weaver's other quests, I'm sure we'll get a chance to fuck with canon eventually.
>>
>>2103529
Also it was me! Ette!
Literally anyone that figured out this was Weaver's quest could realize. ^^^
>>
>>2103538
I know we'll butterfly canon, it's just not very inspired.
>>
>>2103553
Like 'Ette said, there's not many ways we can add a fanfic self insert into an established story without just dropping them in the middle of it and seeing how it goes.
>>
>>2103568
The way I see it there's four conventional ways, and one uncommon way of running a fanfiction quest.

>Dropping an OC PC into canon
Generally rather uninspired though they can genuinely be good.

>Playing as a canon character
Pretty much always terrible and unsurprisingly common on akun.

>Playing in a slightly AU world
Seems to be the most common with the highest success rate.

>An AU of an established world
The rarest and riskiest of this bunch. Very few if any canon characters just the rules of the world.

And the uncommon one is
>Running in something that isn't well-established
QM makes things up as they go along a lot like AU or an OC setting.

You nod at the idea. You had never flown before and the idea that you could do that so easily excited you. Goku seems equally ecstatic at the prospect of dancing through the skies. While Goku is quick to get into the machine you struggle as your arm has only just stopped stinging. It still gives you trouble and so once you finally find yourself with the snug cockpit of the plane. Finally Bulma joins your little trio, and after flicking a few switches and dials the plane begins to rumble and looking out the window you can see the ground below you beginning to ascend into the sky.

The sun shines above your head as the trees below you begins to look more like a flowing sea of green, broken up by the crashing waves of grassy hills and rocky outcroppings. Your ears ring slightly as you continue to ascend but it is still a sight to behold as you look out upon the world that now fluttered below your view. Birds glide and flock around your metal bird as you continue to float along below the clouds.

You had never seen such a sight.

Your merriment however is cut short when a large shadow looms over the plane. You barely manage to look in time to see a massive pair of talons smashes into the body of the plane.

“Oh god!” Bulma screams, trying to jerk the craft away but it is too late as with a horrible screech the metal along the back of the plane is gouged out.

Goku looks to you and both of you nod, you’re gonna have to be really stupid and attempt to fight this thing or you’re all going to be pterodactyl food.

>roll me a D100-20 for your injury.
>>
>>2103553
>it's just not very inspired
>Using a word like inspired like this is some kind of elevated art form or that people set out to create something inspirational when QMing in the first place.
Let's be reasonable here, no QM sets out to reinvent the wheel, it's a fool's errand, there's nothing wrong with fanfic quests or putting the player right at the beginning of canon which is where the bulk of the good stuff is (Lots of fanfic quests die out simply because they try to distance themselves from canon as much as possible, and it just doesn't measure up)
There's dozens of ways to start it off more thoughtful than putting the player right in the beginning, yes, but at the end of the day it's all about the fun and enjoyment that you can squeeze out of it, think of this as replaying an RPG you like: the same basic stuff, only now you're playing a different character and changing up a few choices to see the other branching paths.
And I love me some original Dragon Ball, it's a win-win.

The wind howls as Goku forces the door open with a kick before scrambling out onto the plane with you close behind. The massive beast eyes the two of you as it’s mouth comes down to bite at the two of you. Goku, unafraid, punches the creature’s jaw and sends it skyward as you move towards its talons. The beast has firmly rooted itself to the plane and with a flap of it’s wings you are sent tumbling back, grasping desperately at the plane’s fuselage in an attempt to stall your motion.

Your bare skin burns at both the wind and friction of the plane before you grab one your fans and stab it’s folded blades into the hull. You bite back a scream as you realize that in the heat of the fight you had used your left arm, however Goku seems content and ready to continue the fight as you struggle to get to your feet. Your arm is practically numb in pain as you get ready to engage again, your lungs burning as much as your arm from how high up you stood.

You rush forward, already panting as you bring your folded fans up to stab at the beast's leg. As you cling to its now wounded leg it looks down at you, roaring and its teeth in a snarl and rears its leg up to slam it back into the plane's hull. Your left hand letting go of the fan as the muscles strain at the impact. Pressing your feet into the meat of it’s leg you push hard, pulling the last fan you have free from it’s body.

It seems to like this even less than when you first stabbed it.

Before your feet finally hit something solid, a meaty object the size of your torso slams into your chest, knocking the wind from your lungs and propelling you away from the plane. You can’t even scream as you plummet, Goku not even realizing as he continues to fight to save Bulma from a more gristly fate. He seems to succeed as the pterodactyl finally releases its quarry, but it’s too late. Your vision begins to fade as the last thing you see is the ruined aircraft plunging back to earth.

So much for a grand adventure, huh? So much for flying.

“Hey kid, better get up or I’m eating all of this.”

These words jerk you from the black abyss you had been sitting in as you let out a gasp, scrambling to sit up and look for the source of the voice.

The first thing you notice is that you are in what you can only assume is a cave, given its craggy walls and drab, muddy brown interior. All of this is illuminated by the orange licks of flame that lay ahead of you, a prepared deer hanging above it on a split. Taking all this in you realize that part of the cave wall is bulged out and in fact isn’t even part of the cave at all, it is a cloak.

“That seems to have piqued your interest, eh?” The gruff, gravelly voice says, now evidently coming from the cloak.

“H-how did I get here? Last I remembered I was falling from the sky.” You ask, doing your best to get to your feet to sit by the stranger.

“Isn’t it obvious? I caught you.” The voice answers, shuffling slightly before making it’s way towards the hanging meat. “Took a lot out of me but I wasn’t gonna let some brat become roadkill. What the hell were you doing anyway that left you falling from the sky anyway?” He asks.

You explain the plane, the pterodactyl and your friends before realizing that you were unsure if they had even made it out of the crash.

You scramble to get all the way up but the man’s calloused hand grabs you by the right shoulder and presses you back to your seat.

“There is no way you’d find them this late at night, the best thing you could do is eat and save your strength.”

You look at the stranger for a second more before agreeing, scooting closer to the deer before looking for a good place to dig in. Finding a nice piece you cut into it with a knife the man is kind enough to provide you with before digging in. The two of you settle into a quiet rhythm of eating and carving up the deer. Though you do take note of how much of the beast you're strange companion manages to put away in a relatively short time. As the meal comes to a close you decide to speak up.

“So...what brings you to this neck of the woods?” You decide to ask.

The cloaked figure seems to hesitate before finally responding.

“I’m looking for something. Something important.” He tells you.

You ponder what could possibly be important this far out in the wilderness. It couldn’t be the monastery, that was miles back and wasn’t a great secret. Could it be?

“The Dragon Balls?” You ask.

“The What?”

“Dragon Balls, Seven magic balls that can grant a wish when they’re brought together? Those Dragon Balls.” You explain.

The man gives a chuckle. “While a wish would certainly be great if they were real, I’m looking for something a lot more...obvious.”

“What?” You ask, as if it wasn’t the Dragon Balls it had to be something else.

“A Giant Ape.”

Your brain begins to connect the dots. You had heard stories from when you were a child of a giant ape that had rampaged in the forest not even a few miles away. It is believed that to this day the giant monster still stalks the woods but no one had seen it since. It seemed strange but you accept it nevertheless.

“So you’re after the Giant Ape, why?” You inquire, unsure of just what anyone would want with that monster.

“I am hunting it to...see if it’s real.” He admits before looking over the smoldering remains of the fire. “We should tuck in kid, especially if we’re gonna be getting you up early and on your way.”

You nod at the man, making your way to the smoothest wall of the cave you could before closing your eyes and lapsing into a deep, deep meditation.

>Annnnnnnd that’s where I’m ending it for today folks! Who is this cloaked stranger? Just HOW did he save our life? And more importantly, where are your friends? Find out tomorrow on Weaver Quest Z!

Also I’ll be around so feel free to post questions and whatnot.

I decided after dinner that fuck it, i would post more

The slight chirp of the birds and cicadas outside the cave is what ends up rousing you more than anything. Your back is stiff from sitting all night but your mind is as refreshed as ever. It was not an uncommon habit of yours, having been raised in the Monastery meditation was a major aspect of your life. While it was no true replacement for sleeping, it was helpful for situations such as yours, where all you had left now was a single fan and the clothes on your back. Getting to your feet you see that the stranger is still sleeping, so as quietly as you can you make your way out of the cave and into the early morning sun.

The sky is still a deep blue the sun little more than a deep orange glow on the horizon when you stand out on the slight ledge the cave rested on. Stretching a tiny amount you feel your muscles in your left arm protest in stiffness, and after looking beneath your collar it was no doubt bruised and welted; But with after your morning stretches most of the pain is gone and so you move on to your kata.

Your hands sway as your arms bend, extend and snap at unseen foes, your legs constantly shifting and swaying before snapping out a series of wide kicks. Other than your shoulder the rest of your body is as good as the day you had started training. Minutes blend together as you kick and swing and punch along the edge of the cliff. That all changes however when a voice speaks up.

“Not bad, not bad at all.”

You jump at the sudden voice but turning you see it’s the cloaked stranger.

“S-sorry if I woke you, it’s hard to break the routine of training i’m used to.” You apologize, bowing ever so slightly.

The Man gives you a laugh. “Where I come from there’s no shame in being ready to fight, in fact it’s quite commendable!” He admits, beginning some stretching of his own. As he does so you notice that beneath his cloak he is rather plainly dressed, allowing for easy movement but still strong enough to endure the elements. You also notice in the early morning light the slight stubble and slight start of a twin pair of scars on his left cheek. Before you can even comment on where it came from he speaks up again.

“Say, why not help an older man out and we have a spar, eh? I want to see what you’re capable of.” He asks before jumping down from the edge to the ground below.

Shrugging your shoulders you jump down after him and put your guard up. Time to see what this stranger of yours could really do.

When it becomes obvious that the man isn’t going to take the fight to you, you decide to go on the offensive. That suits you just fine given your fighting style is dedicated to staying on the offensive. Closing the distance you go for a pair of strikes and follow up with a side kick. However every blow you throw at the man seems to miss by only a fraction of an inch and so you continue your offensive. As the first minute of the fight comes to a close you have unloaded blow after blow after blow at the man but still you haven’t managed to scuff his cloak.

What the hell is happening here?!

Your can feel your heart in your ears and the heat of your face grow as you feel your anger growing. Your moves become faster, more sloppy but with as much power as you can throw into it in an attempt to just catch him off guard but still he doesn’t even seem worried as you continue your flurry of blows.

As your relentless assault continues you notice a particular tick of the older man in his dodging form of defense. It takes him a fraction of a second longer to react to unpredictable moves, meaning that there is an achilles heel, you only needed to make it a big enough surprise. Going for a series of body punches you suddenly grab the front of the man's cloak. Before he can swat your hand away you tug him down and go for an uppercut with your free hand. You feel the fabric of the man’s cloak against your hand as he takes advantage of your grapple and bends backwards, pulling you off the ground and slamming you onto your back.

You groan slightly as the man laughs, and looking up at him you can see the slightest hint of salt and pepper in his spiked hair. You also note that the two scars on his left cheek continued into an ‘X’ shape. Before you can comment he readjusts his cloak and looks at you, the slightest hint of a grin on his face.

“Not bad kid! Not bad at all!” He says, chuckling as he extends a hand to you.

You take it and you’re amazed at how quickly he manages to pull you to your feet.

“H-how did you do that, I didn’t even land a single punch.” You stammer, looking at the man with far more respect than you had before he had managed to slam you to the ground without even touching you.

“I knew you wouldn’t.” The man says with a confidence. “I wasn’t expecting you too, more to actually see what you were capable of and I gotta say, I’m impressed.” He says honestly. “However there isn’t much more you can learn in terms of technique to get any better.” He adds, and you already feel the grip of disappointment squeezing your heart as you hear this. It must show on your face however because he perks up before ruffling your hair.

“I wasn’t finished. There isn’t much left you can do but that doesn’t mean I can’t show you the next step.” He continues, the slightest amount of a smile.

What you see him do next all but turns your world on it’s head.

You watch as he extends his hand, palm open towards the sheer rock wall you had both jumped from and before you can even ask a slight whining hum begins to fill the empty clearing. In his palm you watch a blue ball begin to form; At first it is probably the size of a marble but soon grows to the size of a baseball. As you watch in wonder the ball surges towards the wall and the moment it makes contact the wall explodes into a shower of rocks and dust. When it settles there is a car sized hole in the wall and you cannot help but be stunned.

“W-what?! H-How did you do that!?” You exclaim, looking from the hooded man to the hole and back again.

“Simple kid: Energy. Every living being has it but few ever get to the point that they can do that.” He says before looking back at you “You’re one of the few, so let that be a lesson to you and see if you can take yourself to the next step, kid.” He challenges before turning away and making his way off into the woods.

“W-wait! What if I do it, how will I find you? C-can you at least tell me your name?!” You call to him.

The man stops as if to contemplate the question before he turns back and gives you a thumbs up.

“The name’s Bardock, Kid. And don’t worry about finding me; If you manage to take it up a notch maybe i’ll just be trying to find you.” And with that Bardock disappears into the brush, chasing after his Great Ape.

You watch him leave, but as you do everything you had ever learned in the monastery comes back to you in a rush. There is no way that all the nonsensical stuff about magic and purification stuff was real, right? But you just saw with your own eyes a man blow a hole in a mountain with his own power. Not only that but he just told you you could do the same thing. Did that mean that you could actually use the techniques Master Khara had told you were only for ‘ceremony’?

As strange as you think it’ll be you decide that, why not? You were just given evidence that beyond reason of a doubt that such a thing was possible and there was no harm in trying, right?

With that in mind you decide to try the move that had been passed down from master to student at the monastery; The move that you had been told by Master Khara again and again was just a metaphorical technique: The Jōka Gan (Purification Gun). The myth went that long ago when demons and monsters still roamed the land the monks and priests of the Monastery were capable of turning their own lifeforce into a weapon that would banish the demons from earth. In the stories it often left the priest or monk in question but with Bardock’s praise in your ears you wouldn’t possibly be brought low by your own power.

Closing your eyes you bring your left hand to your chest your thumb to your sternum and your pointer and middle fingers pointing to the sky. Even though you are still nervous that this will kill you you steady yourself and close your eyes. Taking a deep breath you try and concentrate on your ‘spiritual core’ as it was said in the old scriptures. You continue this pattern just trying to see if you can find whatever it is that allowed Bardock to do what he did.

As you continue to breathe for a few moments you suddenly feel...something. Perhaps it was because you were actively looking for something now rather than simply taking the words for face value, but you can certainly feel it. Deep in your chest you can feel what you can only describe as a warmth that radiated outward. The only thing you could compare it to would be standing out in the summer sun, the warmth of the floating ball of power caressing every inch of your skin.

Except in this case it was coming from the inside.

As you hone in on the sensation you let your breathing steady, seeing if you can continue to tap into the warmth from this new...whatever it was. It takes a few minutes of trial and error but you eventually find a point where you are not constantly having to focus on it to stay present. The heat by this point has become less like the sun and more like the warmth of a bath, but with the energy not moving anywhere you decide to see if you can start ‘moving’ it, for a lack of a better word.

If you go by the movie's canon he never time-traveled back to present timeline. As you continue to draw breath in and out you begin to see if you can pull some of it’s power away from the core and as you begin to attempt it you find that it is surprisingly easy to do so. It flows like a river and soon enough you don’t even really need to force, more that you have to guide it as it follows your mental imagery. Soon enough you’re handily moving and directing the energy to and from the ‘energy core’. However you realize that you shouldn’t be fooling around and return as best as you can to the instructions as you remembered them.

Drawing the energy down and into your arm you feel the warmth begin to crawl up it, the heat once again returning to the same level it was when you first found the core. As you draw more and more energy into it you begin to bring your hand down, your thumb still pressing against your chest as it descends towards your navel. By this point the power has built to such a level that the heat in your arm that it is practically numb, yet still it follows your orders as you begin to turn; Bringing your hand from your navel to your hip.

“Jōōōō...Kaaaaa” You begin, pushing the energy now from your arm into your fingers, the two digits feeling like red hot knives against your skin...just without the burning.

Twisting your hips you extend your hand out and you hear a similar humming-whine that Bardock's ball had produced. As you bring your fingers forward you open your eyes and see a bright, pale green ring circles the tips of your two fingers. Focusing on it you see that it is rotating slightly as the power begins to leak from your fingers into the air around them.

The time is now.

“Gaaaaaaaaannnnn!” You cry, pushing all of the energy from your fingers ‘out’ towards the mountain you were pointing at.

Almost immediately the ring around your fingers expands as it moves forwards spinning faster and faster until reaching just beyond your fingers. The moment it does The ring breaks as a small beam the size of your two fingers explodes outwards, the ring spiraling around it and forming an almost drill like tip. The beam is only out for a few seconds and you already feel yourself being winded as the ‘core’ has become much colder, however when you see it’s impact you cannot help but be excited.
Similar to the ball of energy Bardock had used the spiral-covered beam slams into the wall. However from there it is radically different as the energy begins to burrow into the mountain a few feet until finally it explodes. Dust and small debris peppers your body but you dare not look away, stunned and awed at what you had done under your own power. When the dust finally settles the hole you have managed to create is two, maybe three times larger than the hole Bardock had made.

>Congratulations you have Unlocked the Jōka Gan! A powerful beam attack, however be warned it takes quite a bit out of you.

>Congratulations, You have unlocked your ‘energy’; While you do not yet know other ways to use it you are now able to access it.

You decide that you’ve done enough ego inflation for the day, and taking one last look at your handiwork you take off with a smile on your face. Looking up at the sky you do your best to remember where the sun was and within a few minutes you note that the three of you were heading west, southwest. With your course more or less figured out you take off, staying in a short jog. As you move you feel nothing short of strange.

It would be in another twenty minutes when you finally realize why you feel so strange.

You had not only kept your speed as you had moved through the brush, but you could swear that you were moving faster than your usual jog too. Hell you weren’t nearly as tired as you’d usually be at this point. Maybe you were hallucinating?

Probably.

Another hour of interspersed jogging and walking you found yourself back at a road. It was hard to imagine that you had crossed that distance just on foot but that was a thought for another day. The only question now was do you continue down the road towards the southwest or do you head back in hopes that your friends are back up the trail?

You decide to follow the trail leading north with the hope that the crash would be in that direction. As you walk along the trail you continue to focus inwards, trying to draw upon the energy you had only recently unlocked. It takes you some time to for you to pull it up again akin to trying to pull a lead weight out of molasses, however it is still there. That give you some level of reassurance, as it was not just a one shot deal. Smiling to yourself you just enjoy the warmth of the energy as it dances along your skin. Your introspective enjoyment is interrupted however, as a bike begins to roar down the road at quite a steady clip.

As it get’s closer and closer and closer you see a mane of blonde hair and a very scantily clad body atop the bike skid to a halt.

“What do you mean? I haven’t heard anything recently, ma’am.” You offer before asking a question of your own.

“Have you seen any crashed planes around here? I sort of need to find one.”

The woman glares at you before pulling a small submachine gun from the other side of the bike. You feel a pang of fear as she points it at you.

“Kid, you do NOT want to be cheeky with me; Now answer me. There was an explosion not too long ago around this neck of the woods. Do you know where it wa-ah, ah, ah!” The woman threatens, though the onset of a sneeze cuts her off.

“Choo!”
With that there is a sudden flash before the woman before you appears to have gone through a radical transformation. Where once there were the hard and fierce facial features and straw golden hair there was now softer, rounder features and a deep blue mane of hair washes behind the woman’s frame. The woman seems just as surprised as you as she looks at you and the bike before finally seeing the gun in her hands. She gives a yelp before dropping it to the ground.

“Oh my! I hope I didn’t do anything bad, little one; Are you alright?” The woman asks, getting down slightly to meet you on your own level.

For a moment you are simply stunned at what has transpired before you; and for a moment you just stare dumbly ahead. However that quickly shakes off and you decide that:

“Um...Hello there.” You say, unsure what to say to the blue haired girl.

The woman seems to recognize that you’re still a bit stunned by what had happened and gives a slight smile. “Hello, I’m Launch!” She practically cheers.

You nod at this and give her a slight smile of her own “The name’s Caff.”

With the introductions out of the way you decide that you should probably look into whatever just happened.

“So...uh What was that about? The whole, blonde hair blue hair thing?” You ask, taking the slightest step back.

The woman looks at you for a moment before tilting her head before giving a nervous giggle.

“So you saw that, huh? I uh...have a bit of a condition. Whenever I sneeze I change and uh, well normally people get hurt.” She says before she gasps and practically tearing up as she looks at the small hole in your shirt and the bruise behind it. “Oh Golly I didn’t hurt you did I?! I’m sorry!” She exclaims, sniffling with worry.

You chuckle and shake your head. “No no, this is from yesterday; You didn’t hurt me before you changed.” You assure her with a smile.
The woman seems to relax ever so slightly, but her nerves have been replaced with awe “You have to be pretty strong if you’re able to be shot and not be in the hospital.” She says.

You can’t help but laugh sheepishly at the compliment, it was true after all.

“Something like that.”

“So uh...what are you doing so far out here on your own, Caff?” Launch asks

You decide to keep the craziness of the last day out of the explanation as you talk to the personality and shape changing woman before you.

“I’m looking for my friends. We got split up yesterday afternoon and so I’ve been looking around to see if I can find them.”

Launch seems to regard your words before she gives you a smile as she gets to her feet. “Well, because of all the trouble I caused why don’t I repay the favor eh?” She asks, straddling her bike before patting the small secondary seat behind her. “Let’s see if we can get you back to your friends.”

You are thankful for her offer, as it means you will have to walk far less than you were potentially going to have to before. However there was a serious choice to be made here and you knew it. You have no idea when or if this girl will change again and the blonde version of her was certainly not the nicest person to work with. While you are wary of what will happen if you accept the offer you won’t lie that you’d enjoy the luxury of a ride. After a few more seconds of debating you decide that even with the risks ahead of you, it would be better to take a ride from a potentially violent individual than no ride at all.

Straddling the bike you slide your hands around the woman's waist before she turns the bike around and after a few directions she begins to race down the road.

It’s actually a rather smooth ride as you coast along the road and hills. The wind is soothing in your hair as you feel yourself lull off to the sound of the dirt crunching beneath the tires and the purr of the engine. You don’t know how long you go along when suddenly you see a rather odd shape in the distance.

It appears to be rather large and bulbous shape at first, maybe some old woman with a hunchback? However as you rapidly approach it becomes evident that it is something else entirely. The spiked black hair and bluish outfit of Goku becomes the first obvious thing, however the second shape takes a bit longer to realize. By the time you do, Launch seems to realize the danger and brakes hard, the tires screeching as she desperately tries to keep herself from slamming into the turtle-carrying youth.

As you finally come to a stop dust kicks up all around you leaving Launch, Goku, the Turtle and yourself in a coughing fit. As the dust settles the laughter of Goku is evident as he leaps up and tackles you into a strong hug.

“Oh boy Bulma is gonna be ecstatic when she sees you! She was so worried when we couldn’t find you after we crashed,” He exclaims, continuing to laugh as his turtle friend belly-crawls his way forward.

However that all becomes secondary as your ears pick up the high pitched “ah, ah, ah!” of a sneeze, and more specifically, a Launch sneeze.

“Achoo!”

Looking back at Launch you see that, sure enough, she had changed once again. Gone was the soft look and blue hair and back was the rough angles and blonde hair. As you turn to see her she is already glaring at you, and from her boot she pulls out a pistol.

“That’s it Brat! You’re gonna pay for makin’ a fool out of me!” She yells.

As she goes to squeeze the trigger you’ve already crossed the distance between the two of you, swatting her hand towards the sky you hear the ‘bang’ as a bullet soars into the sky. Before she can bring her hand back down you step in with your fan drawn and smack the rib of the metal fan against her wrist. As you expect her hand opens in reflex and with the gun immediately out of the way you kick it aside.

Launch isn’t finished however as she pulls a knife from her shorts pocket and begins a series of slashes. Using your fan you swat at the blade in return to keep the knife away away from your body. After a particularly sloppy stab you move in again, dropping the fan to get a hold of her wrist. Wrenching the knife from her hands you slide one of your smaller legs between hers and hook her knee with yours. A sharp tug is all it takes for you to topple the woman before bringing the arm you had used to pin her up to her throat.

“Yield.” You demand, Goku now at your side with his power pole extended.

For a moment the Blonde seems stunned, from the impact or the threat you aren’t sure. But that is replaced however by laughter as she brings both her hands above her head.

“I yield, I yield.” She says as you roll off the woman.

As both of you get to your feet Launch seems to be taking your threat to heart, however she does perk up “Where’d you learn to do that kid?” She asks.

You decide to mull over the options There is no harm in explaining, however you do worry that should you tell Launch where you trained that you could put the other members of the Monastery at risk. With all things considered you speak.

“It’s a form of martial arts. Think the stuff you see in the movies but it’s real and a lot more dangerous than you expect.” You tell her honestly.

She considers what you say before she decides to ask something new “Can you teach me?”

This was the question you were dreading. Again you were not the sort of person who was ready or able to really teach anything other than standard punches and kicks, the simple stuff. You were worried of course what the more violent Launch would do if you taught her anything really dangerous but at the same time the benefits might help her. Martial arts took discipline, inner peace and patience; Things that you could already see the blonde lacked. Another thing was perhaps that maybe, just maybe you would be able to keep the violent Launch from hurting people. She’d be so wrapped up in training that she might even forget guns entirely and focus on her hand to hand skills.

>What do you tell Launch
>A. I can teach you a little bit, but it’ll take time.
>B. I can show you the basics, but i’m not good enough to do more.

All things considered, there are worse ways to keep violent people away from crime. Teaching them a host of life lessons along the way wasn’t so bad either.

“I can teach you, but it’ll take awhile to get anywhere near my level.” You warn her, though she appears to be unwavered in the slightest; And considering the grin that spread across her face you can only assume she likes the prospect.

“It can’t be that hard, just a bunch of kicks and punches and all that!” She exclaims as she dusts herself off.

Hearing this you recognise the first of many faults in Launch and decide to correct that mistake.
“Martial Arts is not just ‘kicks and punches’, Launch. It’s a way of life and it is certainly not an easy one. It takes determination, patience and above all a genuine desire to learn the way. Even now this adventure I’m on is a lesson and I’m not much younger than you. If you really wish to learn I will not stop you, but if you think it is easy then I’m warning you now to drop it.”
This disclaimer however gives Launch pause, and for a moment the brash and impulsive blonde looks almost contemplative as the seconds tick by. After another few seconds of debating the woman gives you a nod “I will do my best to keep that in mind but I make no promises that i’ll succeed, kid.” She warns.

“I don’t expect you to be perfect, I only expect you to try.” You reply with a smile.

Before your brain can even come up with ideas for training however you are interrupted by a tap on the shoulder. Turning to look you see that the turtle is trying to get your attention.

“Umm Excuse me but are you Goku’s friend?” He asks.

You nod.

“I uh, don’t suppose you can help him then? He’s agreed to take me to the sea and i’d be very thankful if you helped as well.”

>Do you help out?
>A. This might actually be a blessing in disguise, have launch carry the turtle to determine her strength and stamina.
>B. You have a good idea, have the turtle ride on the bike with you while Launch runs behind you, see how fast she is

“So let’s start your training, Launch. Pick up that turtle.” You order with a smile.

The Blonde looks at you as if you are crazy before speaking up.

“Are you kidding me? That thing has to be three hundred pounds! Four even!” She exclaims.

The turtle looks at the two of you before looking down, doing it’s best to look abashed. “F-five fifty actually.”

Hearing this Launch jabs a finger at turtle. “See! There’s no way.”

You hold up a hand in reassurance. “Like I said, I don’t expect you to do; I only expect you to try.”

Hearing this you see the girl look back and forth, face contorting through a number of emotions before sighing. Squatting slightly the girl attempts to get her arms around the turtle with little success. Getting a slight grip she huffs and groans attempting to pick it up, this process goes on for awhile longer before she stands with a huff.

You can’t help but chuckle at her frustration and almost immediately you get slapped by her, her eyes narrowed and blushing slightly in embarrassment. “S-stop laughing at me!” she yells.

Before you can respond to her slap you hear the sound of a bike screeching to a halt some distance ahead of you. “Oh my god you’re okay!” You hear the unmistakable voice of Bulma say before you feel two very soft somethings on the top of your head and her arms around you. You can feel your face heating up before you pick up the sound of growling.

“Why you little Perv- ah. Ah...Ah!”

Oh not again,

“Choo.”

Blue haired launch promptly falls on her butt with a quiet ‘oof’ before rubbing her nose. “Oh my, that’s a lot of new people!” She says before smiling.

You quickly introduce Launch to your two friends before explaining the situation. Blue Launch continues her streak of kindness by simply hopping on her own bike and offering to join the small entourage to the sea.

As you and Goku walk along with the turtle held in between the two of you, it dawns on you that you should probably talk to Launch about your training regime. As you do the girl looks slightly confused as her and Bulma’s bikes rumble down the road along the two of you.

“Training, what training?” She asks.

This makes your mental wheels grind to a halt as your training regimen needs to be put on hold.

“The training you agreed to a few minutes ago, you know?” You ask before going into detail in an attempt to remind the female of it.

The fact seems to dawn on her as she speaks up “oh...you were talking to the other me weren’t you? We uh...we don’t share memories.” She tells you.

Hearing this you repeat your offer to her about martial arts and the many benefits of it, both mentally and physically. Hearing this the blue haired girl smiles a beaming bright smile at you.

“Oh I would LOVE to, just as long as I don’t have to use it to hurt anyone! I hate fighting.” She tells you.

You’re quick to explain that martial arts do not have to for combat, in which case she rapidly agrees. As you do this you begin to hear the crashing of the ocean waves and Goku, in excitement begins to run towards the sea. You panic as you feel the turtle begins to slip from your grip.

You quickly begin to pick up speed as Goku starts his run towards the ocean at top speed. You manage to keep up but you feel your arms begin to tire under the strain of the turtle as the distance stretches to over a hundred yards. By the time you finally set the turtle down by the water you’re painting; It seems that whatever high you had had before meeting launch had worn off, however all the same you finally set the turtle down.

“Thank you so much guys, you’ve been oh so helpful in getting me home! This kindness cannot go unrewarded. Please wait here while I get a gift for you boys!” He thanks and praises, shuffling his body towards the sea.

“B-but it’s fine, really!” Bulma insists, clearly wanting to get back on the road to getting the Dragon Balls.

“I insist, I insist. It’ll only be a moment.” The turtle replies, before sinking beneath the waves.

The inspiration comes to you that while you wait here there’s no reason to not start training Launch, and better yet there’s no reason not to try and get lunch! Looking to Goku you give him a sly grin. As innocent as he was you knew the boy could catch one hell of a fish and that means he can catch one hell of a lunch.

“Hey, Goku? I don’t suppose you’re feeling hungry are you?” You ask, and the sight of his eyes widening ever so slightly gives you all of the answer you need.

“I could certainly go for lunch!” Goku says as he practically vibrates in place as he says it.

“I could go for lunch too, think you could get us another gargantuan fish? You had quite an amazing one yesterday.” You ask

He practically vanishes with how fast he moves towards the sea, his power pole out and prepared to spear through fish. As he runs off you look towards Launch and motion her over to you. As she does so you quickly go over what little you know about launch. She wasn’t strong, or fast, or really disciplined when it came to just about anything. But in all honesty that was a blessing in disguise. Without a base to work from you could mold her into a warrior without worrying about retraining and fixing poor mistakes. With that in mind you decide to set up a basic routine for Launch to start working on, and that meant testing.

“Alright Launch, while Goku is out getting lunch for us why don’t we see where you are in terms of physical ability.” You order, and with that your training begins.

While yourself were used to hours of exercise and conditioning, Launch was clearly not, and after twenty minutes of pushups, crunches and jumping jacks she is absolutely exhausted. However, you’re impressed to see that even when she would sneeze and undoubtedly change form neither would stop. While the near constant complaining from Blonde launch is evident of how annoyed she is but nevertheless both push on until Goku returns, a monster of a fish in tow behind him.

You’re about to ask Bulma to begin cooking when she just looks at Goku begin to set up a rather large firepit to cook his prize. Just as you’re about to give Launch a break you hear the Turtle calling to you, and turning to him you’re quite baffled at the sight that befalls you. Upon the back of the large Turtle was a very elderly and bearded gentleman, a bulbous headed staff in his hand.

“Well ahoy there ladies~” The man croons, hopping off the Turtle as it comes to shore. “Are these the people who help you?” He asks, looking to the Turtle.

“No, the two boys helped, the girls didn’t.” He replies.

“Well, for your help I believe Turtle promised a reward and I intend to keep that promise. Now hmm...what would be a good gift.” He begins to mutter to himself as he strokes at his long beard.

The man finally seems to come to a conclusion and looks to both you and Goku “Now then, which one of you boys was the one that started the journey with my companion here?” He asks, and very quickly the tailed-boy raises a hand.

“Ooh, me! Me!” He chries and for a moment the old man looks to you as if you confirm.

“I did not join my friends until this late morning but I can confirm Goku was carrying the Turtle.” You say, answering the unasked question.

Seeing this honesty the man gives a slight smile before suddenly extending his cane towards the sky. “Come to me Immortal Phoenix!” He cries.

There is a long, silent, almost awkward pause as nothing happens. This continues for some time and seeing that there is no change the man leans over to the turtle and speak to it in hushed voices. After a few more seconds he stands and points his cane out towards to the sea.

“Come to me, Flying Nimbus!”

This time however there is a change as you hear the slight whimpering hum of something before you see a golden yellow cloud pull up in front of you. It hovers roughly two feet off the ground and you cannot help but look in wonderment at it. Before you can even ask Roshi approaches the floating mass and takes a smallish lacquered box from it’s floating mass.

“I present to you the Flying Nimbus, a flying cloud that allows for those pure of heart to ride it.” He explains before going to jump upon it.

He promptly falls through it and you cannot help but snicker. You quickly stop however as he gets up, brushing himself off and muttering about it being ‘broken’. However Goku seems ecstatic and jumps rather high into the air before landing firmly upon the cloud.

“How do I tell this thing to go forward?” Goku asks before, as if hearing him, the Nimbus shoots off.

Hearing the cheering and hollering from Goku leaves you slightly dejected but the man seems quick to catch on and presents you the lacquered box.

“Go on my boy, I think this will do just as nicely.” He insists as you take a seat and slowly open the box.

Inside you see a pair of very simple silk boots. Jet black with red laces they seem rather large on you but never the less you do as the man instructed. Slipping one boot onto your foot you watch in amazement as it shrinks and tightens itself around your leg, the mouth of the boot coming to rest just below your knee. Seeing this magic you proceed to rapidly do the same with the other and once you stand up you feel...strange.

You know you aren’t lighter but it certainly feels like it as you give a few test steps.

“So, what is special about these?” You ask, genuinely curious.
>>
>>2110268

If the man knows he clearly wants you to experience it for yourself.

“Go on, take a run; You’ll see for yourself.” He tells you.

You waste no time taking off in a sprint, running down the beach as fast as the shifting sands allow. After almost stumbling you start to fall into a lunge when the most amazing thing occurs before your eyes. Right in front of you your foot sits about a foot off the ground, not that you’re holding it up but rather akin to placing your foot on a stair. Looking closer you see a haze of blueish smoke beginning to form from the sole.

Deciding to test it you take your back foot off the ground and sure enough, you're floating on one leg above the ground. Testing it further you begin to move in a motion akin to climbing stairs and sure enough you begin to climb into the sky, small plumes of cloudy blue smoke beneath your feet.

Well done!

i'm going to head to bed. Writin post in the morning. Good night all
>>

As you continue your ascent you start to notice that it would take forever to get anywhere and considering it’s a bunch of stairs you can’t really change direction. Heck, you weren’t even sure you could get down? Wait, Could you even walk in a straight line?

Just as you think this instead of going up you go out in a lunge as your leg continues forward after stepping up. Bringing your other leg off the ‘step below you find yourself standing above your companions. Looking down you see Bulma suddenly grab her baggy nightie and lift it, and you can almost swear as you see the old man stroke out; but maybe you’re just hallucinating.

Besides, you had to focus on the current situation.

With this new information you had discovered you take a step forward still imagining a flat plane, and sure enough you don’t go up and continue your flat trajectory. Continuing this for a few seconds you decide to keep testing this. Breaking out into a sprint you imagine the ‘plane’ becoming a gentle curve and sure enough you start going up an invisible hill, the only way to tell being the clouds at your feet that denote your travel. After a few more minute of experimenting you start to learn a few things.

>1. The shoes work of your imagination, you need to picture the terrain in your mind
>2. The boots will ‘stick’ in position so long as you imagine an object for them to press against
>3. You can control the sticking effect to allow you to slide and other acrobatic feats.
>4. You do not gain the benefit with your hands if you were to flip mid-air, however if you made a ‘rail’ for the boots to stick and slide along it’ll work.

Having learned all of this you practically fly through the sky, jumping, running, flipping and cartwheeling through the sky. With everything you’ve learned you discover that with downward curves so long as you could balance you could make rails to slide along. This made running slightly less necessary, but you knew this would not be viable in combat without ranged weapons.

>You have discovered rail grinding! Utilizing momentum and physics you can allow the boots to slide along curves and enable long distance travel with much less muscle strain.

Seeing Goku return from his fly around your stomach decides to remind you that you still haven’t eaten, and so you begin to glide down on an invisible rail of air. ‘Hopping’ back to the ground, you walk up to the quadruplet and give a wave before you realize that you hadn’t even thanked the old man for you gift.

Approaching him you clap your hands together before bowing.

“Thank you very much, sir.” You say.

“Yeah, thanks!” Goku chimes in.

“Don’t call me sir, it makes me feel old. As for your thanks, think nothing of it, one good turn deserves another.” He says with a laugh.

“Then what should I call you?” You ask.

“Oh me? I’m the amazing turtle hermit, Roshi!” He exclaims.

You practically are bowled over in amazement. You knew this name, in all the stories passed down in the monastery it was known that Roshi was a close friend of Master Kizen, and there were few people who could ever claim to be THE Master Roshi.

“THE Roshi?” You ask, getting a chuckle out of him.

“The one and only, hee hee.” He says with a laugh.

“So you knew Master Kizen?!” You exclaim, and you see the slightest flinch in the man's face before he looks at you curiously.

“You know about Kizen, eh?” He asks, leaning down to get a better look at you.

You nod.

“I trained at the monastery he founded, I’m actually out on a journey of self-learning.” You tell him.

This gives him pause.

“Well, I know that pretty Bulma told me you were on an adventure, but if you’re still searching after that I live out just out to sea. I’d be happy to train you and the other boy.” He says after a moment.

>How do you answer?

You cannot help but be ecstatic at the chance to learn from another Master and no doubt progenitor of modern martial arts. You and Goku quickly agree when launch informs you she had taken the liberty of cooking and prepping the fish for you and an idea pops into your head. You could always have Launch train with Roshi as well and it would take out two birds with one stone.

In the last two days you had been shot at and fallen out of the sky, and if that was a sign of what was to come there would be in incredible amounts of danger. Bulma had signed up for such a risk and you could protect her with Goku’s help, but Launch? That would be difficult. If you could convince Roshi to train her then not only would she be safe with the old master, but also learn martial arts to protect herself.

As Launch hands you a plate of the fish you look at Roshi and silently motion to him to come over while you eat. Taking the hint the turtle bellies its way over and Roshi promptly sets himself atop it.

“What can I do for ya, Kid?” He asks

“Oh uh...i’m Caff.” You stammer, chuckling as you hand him your plate and receive another from launch. “I should have probably mentioned that. Anyway I uh, have a request of you if I can, master?” You continue.

Roshi looks at you for a moment and nods.

“My friend with the blue hair, Launch? She’s recently agreed to start training to be a martial artist under me but the adventure will be dangerous, and I fear I won’t be able to both train and protect her.” You explain before bowing ever so slightly. “Forgive me for my failure, Master but could you take the burden of training her as well? She would be much safer with you than out there.”

Roshi looks at you with an odd look before patting you gently on the head.

“There’s no weakness in admitting you are afraid, or that you cannot do everything. If anything it is a sign of strength of knowing when one needs help.” He says sagely, before all of that grinds to a halt. “Plus she’s a total babe I don’t see how I could ever say no to that, hehe!”

Maybe this was why he couldn’t ride the Nimbus, just a thought.

As you settle to dig into the fish with the rest of your little group you find that Launch is a surprisingly excellent chef. Your famished stomach sings songs of praise as you wolf down your food and soon enough you’re on your second plate. As you’re continuing to scarf it down you suddenly notice that your fork does not pick up more fish, and looking down you realize why.

Sitting on your plate and covered in fish bits is a golden gem roughly the size of your palm. Looking closer it resembles more of a pearl than anything, though considering your fork did not scratch it and the considerable size you think that this is not the case. Scraping the bits of fish off it you also confirm it isn’t a Dragon Ball.

Reaching down to pick up and wash off the gem you halt in your tracks. The energy that had returned to dormancy inside your body jumped to life. Roshi turns to look at you the moment this occurs but that also gets tuned to the background as you feel the gem...push energy back? However this time it feels different.

It doesn’t feel like the warm, gentle flowing energy you had felt earlier that morning. It was like a rabbit, running up your arm from the point of contact and diving straight into the ‘core’ that rests in your chest; The moment it does the feeling explodes out through your entire body. You feel far more than you could imagine but before you could get up to see the improvement Roshi again stops you.

“Ho ho, what do you know? A Thunder Pearl.” He says, gently prying it from your hand.

“Huh, a Thunder Pearl?” you ask, feeling the strange jittery energy begin to slow and calm and return to that nearly imperceptible feeling.

“A Thunder Pearl, rare things to be sure.See, they are usually found on the throat of true dragons and are the ‘core’ of their spiritual power. When they pass it is where much of their energy ends up. Seems our swimming friend here found one and swallowed it and now it’s in your hands.” He explains before giving a more focused look to you “I’m more surprised that you can feel the power within, only people with a lot of energy can really feel it.”

“Feel what?” You ask.

“That tingling feeling in your hand when you touch it. It tingles on your fingers, right?” He asks
>How honest are you with your new master?
>A. Tell him the truth, it’s like you feel it through your entire being
>B. Tell him a half truth, say yes and see where he goes from there
>C. Try and deny it

You shake your head “I uh, feel it not just in my fingers but... inside me. Like that tingling rush jumps from the stone into my arm and up into my chest and just goes everywhere. I feel like a thousand percent and just I could do anything.” You reply quietly, ashamed that you aren’t feeling it like he describes.

Roshi seems stunned by this fact and once you finish you see him gently hand you the stone. Immediately you feel it, and being discomforted by it you stuff it in your pocket.

“I must say Caff I only knew one man who ever described that feeling once before with such a thing, and that was my master, Mutaito. I’d suggest holding onto that, it might help you in your training.” He advises with a smile.

With his advice given the two of you return to your meal with the group, though you don’t get to enjoy another portion of Launch’s meal as Goku had managed to devour it to the bones. With your prospects of more food dashed Roshi hops aboard the Turtle and makes room for Launch to sit between him. You feel suspicious at this but you managed to convince the man to train Launch and that was enough to at least ignore...whatever it is the man was doing.

“Alright kiddo’s this had been a great day. Seems Roshi had a Dragon Ball and I managed to ‘convince’ him to part with it so we only need to find four more!” She exclaims, much to Goku’s excitement and your relief. With her announcement complete she pulls the dragon radar from her hip she clicks it on and after a few seconds of consultation she speaks again “Seem’s the next Dragon Ball is about a day’s journey north. Sound good?” She asks.

With no objections she straddles the bike Launch had been nice enough to leave behind and offers a seat to you.

Straddling the bike you do your best keep your hands PG as you grip onto the bike and you take off up the road. As the hours tick by the sun begins to dance near the horizon that Bulma calls it quits for the day’s journey. Finding a good clearing you watch as the teen takes a small capsule out of a small case and, with a button press and short toss later, a modest home bursts into being. You had heard of capsule technology but you had never seen it used to such a scale before. Entering the tidy abode you smile at the simple decor. “Well Caff, make yourself at home; I’m gonna take a bath before Goku insists on scrubbing my back again.”

You wish to ask what she’s on about but before you can the bathroom door is shut.

Shrugging and rolling your shoulder you set the Thunder Pearl down on the small table before you. The couch isn’t the most comfortable, but it is far more comfortable than a rock wall and soon enough you are fast asleep; Unaware of the amazing journey you were about to undertake.

>They say the first steps are always the hardest and it is certainly true now more than ever. Just where will Bulma’s journey take us? What strange new friends and powerful foes might we meet? And just what else have we signed up for? Find out next time on Dragon Ball: Caff Chronicles!

That’ll be all for this week boys and girls. Feel free to stick around for some back and forth talk. Or join the community up above. You do you.
