NEW PLAYERS WELCOME

Welcome to Gyrocite.

You play as an all-around "handy man" for an upstart company whose invention could change the world along with its partners. Your current job has you rescuing a gunsmith's domestic partner, preventing your boss being framed for a terrorist plot, and causing collateral damage via explosives.

Don't worry about catching up or trying to understand it all. Just play along

Previous Thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/2047172

A quick start guide is there to explain general concepts. The full rules are here:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1hRb7fQuzeSfjKbbYNOWa6V1xWs3-CM9lKBBDkJFcQ8I/edit?usp=sharing

Don't worry about all the math. A character calculator is provided to make things easier here. Just make a copy for yourself. Sorry, can't give edit rights:

Although it's billed as a Skirmish this game is a full on TTRPG. Character creation is time consuming but rewarding. Train yourself and figure out your abilities by trading in your Merit Point for certain abilities. You raise Stats, or acquire PRQs with them.

To get in quickly. There are premade loadouts to use here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uRMvILWgQcC_R96y6GH7uUTRKu4DOMtjkt9DrbOL7nA/edit

Pick Fencers for decent tanking, Gunslinger/Brawler for DPS, or try your hands at keeping your fellow handymen alive as a Medic. If you try to make your own character, and I invite you to, there's a basic template to follow below

Deacon: I’ve seen your wares and would just love to purchase your enterprise. If you make your way here I believe my associates and I can secure you a more favorable arrangement. One that doesn’t involve extortion.

Sir White: Ruby why on vitas is that wretch’s lover here. Did your party fail us again?

Ruby grabs a vocaven from here clevage: Amethyst how the fucking seven did Ernesto escape? What do you mean he’s still in the basement?

Deacon: Ah that explains it. Well have no worry as you can see Valentino, your partner is without harm no thanks to us, and as we speak my men are bringing the perpetrators to justice.

Ruby: Who the Seven hells are you?

Deacon: Call me Mr. Rose dear. You must be the new management of your little troupe. Opal told me you were inexperienced but not ignorant.

Ruby reaches for a gun within her dress

Deacon taps the ground with his cane twice: I wouldn’t do that dear. I have a small little tike outside who’s just dying to use her new toy she got from her favorite uncle. I’m not keen to let her start learning about the business this early though so. Now Valentino get over here so we can talk about you being under the Rose and Tower name.

Samantha: The Closers and Bombers must have Valentino’s lover. They must be holding him hostage in the slums

Deacon: Wait how did you already know?

Samantha: Women’s intuition.

Deacon: Nevermind that. They all think we have Ernesto. I’m assuming that’s one of our handy--

Deacon stops mid sentence as he sees Ernesto walk over spraying the two Knights ineffectually with sticky tie and dumping the drinks all over Ruby

Ruby: MY HAIR!

Deacon: Scratch that definitely one of our handmen.

Samantha: What’d they do?

Deacon: Spill drinks all over the harlot

Samantha: Lirenis?

>Vhalhenthino, mhy lhove. [Wink] Yhou should throst that mhan! I'll get REVENGE on these SCHOUNDRELS.

Deacon: Definitely...

Deacon points his cane in the air and starts gesturing.

Deacon: As you see Valentino! Run here!

El Mamut shifts himself towards the alley bumping into Bayode who gives him a quick pick-me-up. Gairain throws grenades in a frenzy while screaming “Rampage”. The thunder of explosions wakes up the whole neighborhood just as a cloud rises from the street.

Odele: What the Seven hells were all those explosions. Gairan you didn’t….

Notes: Sticky tie uses a vs. roll to determine if it works. When the application is successful the efficacy of the application is determined by the DoS of the vs. roll. Objects such as doors have a low threshold to see if the application works and incapacitated targets have no threshold at all.

I noticed Bayode had the [boosters] skill so i had him give you aid and then give you an injection of boosters so you can have a jumping start next turn when i set the smoke bombs off and the flare went off, hoping that you can beat everyone up or at least cause some major damage with the extra +6 ap.
My entire turn or plan for this turn was to buff you or assist you so that you could be at your most effective, in a cqc state with your gfe loaded and with some extra ap along to boot.
When turn posts and your ready to take your turn, have bayode inject you with [ventacine.] it will let you move up to your VEN at no cost whatsoever. Combined this with your [capaci joggers] that charge your gfe the spaces that you go and you can put yourself back in the fight somewhat scratched but with +6 ap and some free movement to boot..In the end i accomplished my objective for this turn getting YOU back in fighting condition and with good conditions to boot smoke screen for ranged impairment so you can take less damage from guns in case they try to shoot you, charged GFE so you don't have to worry about damage or well anything concerning a broken shield. Free movement and +6 ap so you can get a head start on combat and hopefully them thugs out..

>TLDR: I noticed that bayode has drugs and had him inject you with a few and came up with a plan on how to jumpstart you back into fighting condition. While giving you more or less the fighting conditions that you may want in a situation like this.

I apologize if having bayode inject you with the [boosters] was a bad call, i noticed we were getting beat up and i really wanted to give us a turn over in this fight. Say the word, and i won't ever do this again.

Also i highly suggest joining the mibbit channel when you have time, were a fun lot when were asking gearcommand about questions or just talking to ourselves in general.

Valentino makes his escape from the brief distraction Lirenis has given. He runs past Deacon who follows suit.

Ruby: SHIT. Sir. Donnel help me.

Sir Donnel: As you wish.

Amethyst: Ruby? What’s going on?

Ruby: Valentino just ran off. You said Ernesto is still there?

Amethyst: Yes. Tacks is going to the basement now to check on them. We have him in hiding and the Constitutionalists are keeping watch regar----BOOOOOM (Static)

Ruby recoils as her ears are assaulted by white noise.

Ruby: Amethyst?! Come in girl!

Amethyst: -------ZZZGTTJJJJ--plosion---ZRRRJJJSSWHRRRRR--wer outtage----

Ruby: Dammit Amethyst what happened? Is Ermesto there or not? Arrrgh, after them!

Deacon: Good show. Sam kiddo. Try and make your leave. We have Valentino secured but without his partner safe we’ll have a hard time making any headway either.

Samantha: There’s a ton of Chrysian guards running upstairs won’t that tip off security?

Deacon: Milton’s security can’t do a damn thing about the Knights’ entourage. Start moving. Ems and I will make a distraction and try to clear the whole ballroom. They’re about to find out that’s not Ernesto.

Guards make their way up the second story. Several party goers notice but aside from side murmurs the music goes on. Lirenis feels a strong hand grab her. She tries to get free but cannot.

Sir White: And what do we have here?

Deacon: Looks like we’ll be fighting our way out of this. Get your date up here. I’ll need a hand.

Samantha: Alright fine. I’ll make my way, but before I go.

Samantha hugs Julien. Brief flashes of light emit suddenly and Julien feels much lighter. His GFE slightly hums.

Samantha: Go be a hero now, and thanks for the dance.

The tenement groans and creaks from the damage it sustained from Gairan’s recklessness. The cracking turns to thunder as debri falls overhead. The brawlers all stop for a moment to look up to see if they’ll soon be entombed by the large building. The two pawns next to the building are buried and the excess debri falls eastward blocking Gairan’s path from his allies. As everyone gets there bearings straight, Gairan’s mayhem continues when the solvenite flare he threw ignites like a blue sun briefly showering the area with its brilliant light. Bayode and El Mamut’s senses are distorted. Bright spots in their vision and ringing in their ears is all they know of the world. Out of the blast’s range Gairan see’s the lights of the neighborhood flicker and then die plunging the whole area in darkness. There’s yells of confusion and fear filling the air.

Odele: They ran into some goons and one of them must have thrown a bunch of explosions around. My {Pressmen} picked up radio chatter in the surrounding sectors and the place is going to be swarming with constables soon. We’re working on manipulating the story right now.

El Mamut walks menacingly towards the last pawn. He drops his gun and runs away screaming into the alleyways completely losing the will to fight. The other pawn groans in agony complaining about his back. The crew check their vocavens and are greeted with white noise. A lone figure walks out to the intersection.

Vickens: Oi there. You lot saved me hide. The names Vickens I’m the local {Steward} here. Thank ye for taking care of those cravens. They started getting more bold once they got ahold of that new equipment, but it seems your stuff is much better. I’d like to help ye any way I can.

>Check to see if I got all the numbers right. If you don’t mark passives or other modifyers I don’t process it. Remember you guys have on average about 12 skills.

Facing: Since I've switched over to hexes I should probably mention some good practices when it comes to facing. you can face 6 directions and your vision covers those the adjacent tiles along with the one faced. So for example if you're facing in direction 1 you are covering 6/1/2. This is important for skills such as [Parry] and [Dodge]. If facing 1 then 4 is your immediate back and 3/5 are your flanks. Hitting someone from their back or who is {Unaware} of your presence will still incur the +50% backstab bonus. Parry and Dodge can be prepared for multiple times to cover more than one area.

I've been doing some internal testing and updating the guide book. There have been a few features that have been in place that haven't been utilized. This is mainly because I didn't bother to tell you what they were or I forgot them myself as it can take me time to transfer things from my written notes to a digital format. I've amended that.

Here are a few clarifications to certain mechanics.

====Cover works as DR instead of a percent modifier. You can [Observe] to find cover.

This one is semi contextual as the rating to succeed in doing so is very low and it's laborious to label them sometimes. Also I forgot this was a thing. So in a combat situation you can parse your actions like below for that to happen. This shouldn't be anything ground breaking as you already add context to your actions which is encouraged but not required. Don't expect context to always be considered when doing actions.

>[Observe] -find cover

====Dynamos are pretty simple yet still super complex.
I do all of this internally so you only really need to understand that more MER means better mag. res.

I'll just copy paste from the guide:

Dynamo reactions
Reactions enable Dynamo Engineers to do remarkable things with BGWs. When catalyzing, dynamos produce a certain number of Beta Gyre Waves coined as Effect (abbr. EF). In order to have a successful reaction the target must be hit with enough EF to overcome their natural resistance. This natural resistance is called their Ground (abbr. GRD) Materials and organisms have a GRD against EF. {Dynamo Engineers} can [Observe] to see the GRD of materials around the environment. Organisms resist EF differently. Organisms resist EF with their MER*2. GFEs add half their limit (LI/2) to the organism’s GRD to resist EF as well if they are functioning. If the EF surpasses the organism’s GRD then a successful reaction takes place. Reactions can work differently depending on the target too. A key note to consider is that the environment is generally easier to manipulate than an organism.

To recap if EF>GRD then the reaction takes place.
[Observe] to see the GRD of materials around the environment
Organisms: GRD = 2*MER+(LI/2; if it’s working)

====Imbuements (see pic related)
At first I wanted to keep imbuements a secret and let you explore with "magic" period but that makes little to no sense when you're employed by the person who literally helped invent it. So instead I'm revealing every single available imbuement. Some catalysts may be labeled experimental as not every catalysts has been used before.

Lore wise people have been able to catalyze elements for some time. The most common is with Jupimer to create viable air ships. Using Gyre tech just makes it easier and more portable.

When I'm so busy just trying to run the game at a reasonable schedule its hard to keep my house in order so to speak.

As her disguise comes undone the knight is dumbfounded.

White: He’s likely still with your group. Have you been able to contact them?

Yeah I screwed up on that part. The master key is a real shot gun attachment. What I should have said is that some apply but not all and is based on what makes sense. The examples I was thinking about were single load, speed loader, and close quarter so I didn't consider every combination.

I fond an error in the guide. The formula for Res is 1.5*Mer +2.5*jup. I got it confused with eq. Please double check.

Julien engages the elder knight and beats his parry away. Hit following attack goes wide missing Sir White so he parries in turn. Lirenis makes it towards the Ruby and Sir Donnel. Her servant training does her well as she delivers a devastating blow to Ruby downing her instantly. Seeing his men annihilated, Donnel chooses to parlay.

Donnel: I see now that we’ll definitely need to secure that shield technology. Mr. Rose was it? Why I appreciate you silencing her I’ll have to ask that you stand down. We still have Mr. Aquila’s partner in our possession and if this continues we’ll simply order our associates to kill him.

Deacon: And you really expect Valentino to sell to you then?

Donnel: I will share with you this. We have other means of acquiring Aquilla Arms. Having Valentino relinquish his holdings is simply the most expedient way.

Deacon: And how do you plan on giving those orders? Communications are down in that sector and my men are already extracting him.

Donnel: No matter. We’ll just eliminate you all here and now. The other details can follow. I must warn you Mr. Rose. We’ve seen our fair share of battles.

Deacon: Not like this you haven’t.

Sir Donnel laughs haughtily: Sir White I believe it’s time we see how Eldson’s prototype does don’t you say? I doubt there will be many witnesses in this chaos.

White: Capital idea. They’re with the Council guard however.

Donnel: No matter. We’ll only need one. In the meantime. Are our reinforcements close?

White: Yes they are.

Marianne: Boys, I found a schematic of the tower. The service stairs are actually a part of the elevator shaft.

Donnel: We have no time for all of this Sir White.

Sir Donnel strikes at Lirenis and quickly makes his way towards Deacon and Valentino. His GFE glows a brighter color.

Donnel: Curious devices they are. While they may help the commoners a trained mind can push them well beyond their stated capabilities. Now to deal with you all.

A shot rings out. Donnel looks up to see a small figure shouldering a rifle much larger than her.

"Ems, Deek, Lawyers; if you brought any Spearmints, now is the time to load them. Sam, make sure the automaton does not see you. We do not know what exactly they are programmed to do, so do not risk yourself.
'Del, send it.
Alex, if you abscond with some of those fireworks and a bit of clockwork, it should be fairly simple to rig yourself a timed distraction."

Argh— really? Yessir, got - this is a real unsafe work environment, y’know!

This turn will be fun. The hades being able to toggle imbuements is an unintended synergy but plays well. I took a break to hang out with friends. Turn will process tomorrow schedule willing.

Go ahead and assume the Nyx isn't draining. That's what I originally wrote it to work as and looking over the last few turns I'm seeing it's not as broken as I thought it would be.

turn is nearly done. I'll post a new thread either tonight or tomorrow night.

The hades crackles and partially moves in and out of existence. Lirenis cracks the whip towards Donnel’s sword. The Knight resists the dynamo’s power and holds. Lirenis continues to attack shorting out Donnel’s GFE. Lirenis then catalyzes herself and ends up on the roof where she finds a nasty surprise.

Julien stares coldly at the knight.

White: I know who you are now. You’re Lucretia’s so-

With two slashes the old Knight is cut down.

Donnel: SIR WHITE! YOU’LL PAY FOR YOUR CRIMES HERE CAPITIANS!

Marianne: I’m getting a lot of traffic on the Constabulary channels. Large forces are heading over to Milton’s and to the slums.

Alex looks southwards to see if any of the Council Guard may have a key. Judging by their movements he surmises none of them have a key. There must be another Council Inspector that has it. Prefect deftly makes it to the first floor of the tower.

Gairan swings at Roller but he deftly dodges out the way.

Vickens continues fiddling around for the right supplies in the field kit.
