You are Alexei Solokov, scion and heir of the Sokolov crime family. It is Wednesday, October 22nd, 2017, and the Family is in a dark age. The assassination of your father and the severance of the Family's ties to the forces of Hell and the Witch Covens have left the once Great House in a downward spiral. Only the monstrous servants remain allied with the Sokolovs.

Your bank reserves are at 165,070,450 USD.
Your weekly income is 70,450 USD per week.

Your forces are:
>250 Werewolves, scattered across the globe; 92 at the Manor, 20 in Beijing, 20 in Louisiana, 30 in New York, 30 in London, 50 in Afghanistan and ?? remaining here in Moscow (last count was 58, not including Bas)
>18 Jaegers (S) at Sokolov Manor and 2 here with you in Moscow
>2 Cyclopes (S), here at Sokolov Manor
>5 Minotaurs (S), here at Sokolov
>10 Centaurs (S), at Sokolov
>1 Dragon (S) (Vern, a Red adolescent) here at Sokolov
>2 Pegasi at Sokolov
>8 Nightshifters, at Sokolov
>25 Salamanders, at Sokolov

You are currently coming out of the exam room of the KGB Winter Division Headquarter's medical bay, thinking about the difficult situation you've found yourself in...

+++

"[Heya, kid,]" Anatoly says as you walk out of the exam room. Incongruously, he's playing some sort of cartoonish mobile game on his phone. "[Looks like Doctor Soyuz worked his magic, eh?]"

You tense for a moment, trying to detect the subtle presence of magic - difficult, but possible if one's body was the target of a spell. Realizing his mistake, Anatoly makes a placating gesture.

"[Ah, an expression. Sorry, Alexei, I wasn't thinking. Does your shoulder feel better?]"

"[It still stings like a motherfucker, but yes. It does.]"

You roll your shoulder a few times in demonstration. Carefully.

"[Yeah, definitely better. Well, Uncle, thank you very kindly for your hospitality. I'd like to talk with my bodyguard now. We have an exit strategy to discuss.]"

"[Ah, yes.]"

He presses a button on his silver watch, and speaks into it.

"[Where is the Lord Sokolov's wolf being kept?]"

Some garbled speech you can't make out, and Anatoly nods before leading you down yet another hallway. Seriously, this place is like an ant colony.

A few suspiciously non-Euclidean turns later (though that's probably your imagination), you reach a cell guarded by at least 20 Spetsnaz. Winter Division apparently knows how dangerous a werewolf can be.

"[Uncle, may I request that you free my bodyguard? I assure he'll be of no trouble.]"

Anatoly nods.

"[Of course. I do apologize again for the... rough handling.]"

Strangely, the Spetsnaz don't tense when the Director comes near.

"[Captain, please release the prisoner.]"

"[Of course, sir. Just confirm your identity here.]"

The captain steps out of the way, and reveals a complicated looking device. You sight some arcane symbols on it as well, noting the advanced fusion of machine and magic. Anatoly's body blocks the process from view, but the device chimes and the captain seems satisfied. The door slides open smoothly and silently, opening on a tableau of violence.

Blood is spattered over half the room, all, seemingly, from Bas, who's giving off the kind of infuriating grin only someone who's achieving in defeat can pull off. The "interrogator" - Strelkinov, of course - is winding back for another strike, but he freezes on the sight of the now-furious Director Anatoly.

You are at once boiling with rage and worried for Bas, but your training forces you to reconsider. This is a highly professional KGB division. They're certain to have proper protocols for breaches of discipline like this.

Anatoly, however, doesn't seem to care. You've never seen your jovial uncle raise his voice, and it seems that nobody in present company has either, considering their reaction when...

"[STRELKINOV!]"

Anatoly's roar seems to shake the concrete walls around you. Even the trained Spetsnaz flinch. The man in question retreats to the far wall, fear shadowing his eyes. Bas' grin grows wider after the initial shock wears off.

The Director rolls up his sleeves, striding into the room with "murder" written in his every motion. Strelkinov puts up his hands and chatters some excuses, but that just means his mouth is open when Anatoly's fist meets his face. His head snaps back, and Anatoly immediately grabs his hair and slams his face into the table with enough force to break his nose and splash flecks of blood into Bas' face. His grin doesn't waver.

"[Captain,]" Anatoly says in a tone as cold and calm as Moscow ice, "[put this filth in a cell and prepare to retire him. He has worn out Winter Division's patience.]"

It's quite clear that this isn't Strelkinov's first... "incident." The menace of the word "retire" doesn't escape you either.

"Hey, Bas, you ok?" you call into the room. The werewolf snaps his chains and flashes you a thumbs-up. Anatoly looks concerned by Bas' display of strength, but you know the werewolf's tricks.

"Onsh I get bakh intuh tha moonlight, I'll be fine, shir," he says, slurring around his mouth. You nod. Since werewolves regenerate in the moonlight (along with some other boosts), once you get back under open air, Bas should be fine.

"Alright, can you think straight?"

"Yesh shir."

"What do you recommend between hunkering here 'till morning or evacuating immediately?"

"Thish plashe seemsh nishe. No, sherioushly. You sheem well treated, and if my eysh are shtill working, thatsh Anatoly. My reccomendashion is holding here until we know itsh shafe. It'sh shtill up to you, Shir."

"Excellent. Other than this..,miscommunication, everything I've seen so far suggests there is almost no place in Russia I would be safer, other than Sokolov Manor, of course." Glance over our shoulder, in case the Manor is listening.

>>2083473
"Also, Bas, get to the moonlight quick as you can. A Cowboy Werewolf is bold enough in Russia, but a Scottish Secret Agent Cowboy Werewolf is probably at least one step too far."
