Stage 176: ….okay maybe it does mean you're going to die. Just not from the wounds.

The revelation of the Five Tengu Brothers leaves you with a strange sense of peace, yet also on edge. You remain in your seat, leaning back and stroking Kiku's fantastically soft hair, but you would much rather be up and practicing, exploring your newfound understanding of the sword and it's use. Their use. Whichever.

The idea of actually focusing on the act of killing someone is strange to you. Being Clever, or being Deadly (or for that matter, Destructive), is not the same thing as having intent to kill. Those things can be very easily mistaken for the latter – well mostly, being Clever isn't really a part of this – but they are not actually the same thing. While you were generally aware that what you were doing would result in death, you didn't think of it as killing. If fact, you barely thought of it at all. You simply acted in what was the most effective manner to end the situation, be it a fight, a person being alive, or....well, whatever the situation was.

The understanding that the Brothers Five gave you was very simple, but overwhelmingly potent. A sword is parts and pieces, a mere tool – beautiful, beloved tools, but tools nonetheless, kami or not. Your instinct, your will, your body, your power....these too are merely tools. Somewhat broken and important tools, but still tools. When you fought and killed before, you were just acting on instinct, or training. Killing was something hat happened as a result of your actions and the situations you found yourself in. You very entered a fight with the intent to kill whatever you were fighting.

Even Umetsumi's brother was less intent to kill than intent to make him stop. He died as a result of the particular method you chose to use. You don't consider that to absolve you of his death of course, but the mindset is important.

It only took being nearly taken apart to learn that interesting, valuable, and extraordinarily painful lesson.

Kiku-chan's tail-tip twitches back and forth along your side as it rests about your waist. Hands in lap, head down, another person would think she was sleeping. You know better; she is very much awake and aware. Fortunately, she's not given to the usual fidgeting that Fire dragonettes and dragonnes are prone to. Age, perhaps, but more likely training.

You kiss the top of her head carefully, and she speaks softly. “You shouldn't do that in public.”

[] Maybe not, but I can't help myself with you.
[] Yes mother, and kiss her again.
[] You're not worried about scandalizing everyone at your age, are you?
[] Any particular reason? I'm pretty sure I can't embarrass you doing that.
[] I know. I don't care, but I know.

[XX] You're not worried about scandalizing everyone at your age, are you?
[X] Maybe not, but I can't help myself with you.
[x] Yes mother, and kiss her again.

“I can't imagine you'd be worried about causing a scandal at your age, kasan,” you murmur softly, your fingers tracing gentle symbols of love and affection upon her smooth, tight, and somewhat bared belly. You feel her blush despite the fact her calm, collected expression does not change. “You are the very image of propriety and grace, and you would never be mistaken for someone who would allow a woman of my age to perform lascivious acts upon her person, would you?”

“Bakayero. Ecchi. Hentai dragon.” Her epithets are delivered in that soft, gentle whisper, but no less vehemently meant, you're sure. She shifts a little and you make a small noise of pain, which does make her open her eyes. “You shouldn't even be moving, much less sitting up. My master says you are terribly injured.”

“Your master understated the matter by some degrees, I'm afraid,” you admit. “But I can't help myself with you. You are too cute, and too precious to me. Even when we first met I couldn't keep my hands off of you.”

“I recall. Vividly.” Your diminutive priestess sighs. “I sincerely hope that whatever you accomplished was worth this terrible injury, aniki.”

You kiss her on the top of her head again, and rest your hands in her lap, covering both of her delicate hands. “Yes, mother of my child, lover of my Seer, my beloved priestess. It was worth it.” You pulls her a little closer, ignoring the pain it causes you. Wisely she does not move, only allows you to move her. “It was necessary.”

“I wish I could doubt you, but you are not that much of a fool, beloved kami,” she murmurs softly as you release the very gentle, very careful hug. She tilts her head back, looking up at you in a manner far too reminiscent of a certain oni-chick. “You must have suffered terrible injuries, for the small ones to not heal.”

“It's safe to say that I am exhausted in every way, and that if I had a choice, I would be doing as you wish me to do.” You lean back as people start returning to their seats, including a pretty Ainu and a lovely Chinese. Kiku watches as a few people pass by you, ready to inflict terrible things upon them if they should so much as brush against you too hard. You count yourself fortunate that they do not, mostly because the resulting situations would be difficult to explain.

Inau-kun gives Kiku another bottle of water as she passes,w hile Er Yin moves even more carefully past you than Inau-kun had; her tail lightly caresses your ankles in passing, and you slide your tail across hers in an affectionate reciprocation.

“I hate to bring this up now,” Inau-kun says apologetically, “but I think we are going to have to reconsider our exit strategy in light of your injuries, aniki.” You look at her nonplussed. “Er Yin-sensei explained your situation, and I would rather not have you take such large risks as would be required by your exist strategy as it stands.”

[] Your concern is noted, but regretfully denied.

I would bring up that resting while seated in the theater and resting at home is not quantitatively different, but I'm not certain that is the case. If it is, then the important short term strategy is simply that we not personally take further risks or much activity. And surely, we should have made some progress with our wounds by now?

Ryukusa could probably use as much protection as Kiki at the moment

Home would probably be more restful for the simple reason that Ryukusa could focus entirely on meditation, healing and rest rather than having to watch the play, listen to the audience and keep wary of any potential threats in said audience. Not physically less restful here, but mentally and spiritually I'd imagine it's night and day. Though in the latter case, the most important thing is probably being around the family, wherever that is.

[XX] I am not certain how things could be changed and remain focused on Hime-chan.
[XXX] If you can suggest something viable that keeps myself and the princess equally safe, I am listening.

You smile faintly, laying one hand along Kiku-chan's head and laying your cheek upon it, looking at Inau-kun somewhat sideways. “Generally speaking, my arrangements were for Kiki-hime's protection, not mine, so it's not a surprise it would have a few holes in it where my safety is concerned, Inau-kun.” The handsome girl blushes beautifully, her pale skin rose-hued and her ears almost bright red. “As much as I would like to pretend otherwise, my health and well being is not the focus of our clan currently, and I am not going to compromise Hime-chan's safety even slightly in comparison to my own. That would be the case regardless of my supposed lack of mortality or invincibility, I'm afraid.”

Er Yin starts to speak and Kiku-chan mutters something rude to you.

You interrupt Er Yin before she can admonish you. “However: if you can arrange something else, that still completely protects Kiki-hime, as well as providing me some measure of security, I am willing to listen objectively.” You run your fingers up and down Kiku-chan's smooth belly, making her shudder every time you caress the firm place where the egg you fertilized within her lies. “I always listen to my subordinates, and I'm far from perfect.”

Kiku-chan opens her mouth to agree with you and you press your nails along her belly threateningly, though subtly enough to avoid Inau-kun's notice. She closes her mouth abruptly, and glowers – literally. (Don't belittle Inau-kun's desire to help by insulting me after I've claimed weakness, Kiku-chan. She's new to all of this, and still learning.) That mollifies the intemperate dragonette some, and she relaxes once again.

Inau-kun takes a slow, calming breath, organizing her thoughts. “Rather than trying to guard all four exits, aniki, why don't we focus all our attention on the two important ones, and use whichever provides the easiest egress when it comes time to leave. We can concentrate most of the guards there, and have less issues that way.”
>>
You smile a little more, but regretfully murmur, “Because we don't know that we'll have access to either of the two entrances that are most likely to be used – those are where the enemy will concentrate their attention, and therefore we may have to use one of the other two.”

“That's why we will have Kiki-hime and our other actors leaving by one of the more public exists all together, to give autographs and signings.” You lift your head, frowning now, because that's a suicidal course of actions. “Kiki-hime can pre-sign some cards, photos, and other mementos, as can the others, and then while the crowds are dealing with them, we;'ll make our way out. We have twenty nogitsune-born here....let's make use of them.”

The last line makes everything fall into place. Kiku-chan is looking at Inau-kun with some surprise. Er Yin-sensei looks thoughtful. “It is a sound plan, Ryukusa-sama. No one will know what to expect from the new actors, and Kiki-hime would steal the limelight from them as well. We could have them pre-sign some things as well, to make them authentic.”

[] It's a sound plan – use it.
[] Stick to your current plan.
[] Alter it slightly – have two sets of faux Kiki-hime, then sneak the real one out a third exit.
[] You have a sorceress here too; can she confuse the issue even further without preparation?

>We already told that tale, with the names scratched off it sounded like a fiction to everyone not in the know.

I know, but the Kaga and Taisho are two enemies that we know will target Kiki the first chance we get, and we know they're involved tonight. Also, both of them have rather distinctive forces an ressources to use, so we need to take that into account rather than just protecting against everyone in general.

I don't really think Inau needs to be reminded of that though?

How about we just say that Ryukusa will add any details she feels may have been missed on the matter, if there's need to point it out at all. I mean, they are mostly the ones we're were concerned about protecting her from to begin with.

It isn't - the real risk would be if Kiki-hime was doing it herself, because she'd be in direct contact with actual people.

If it had been a risk Ryukusa or Er Yin would have shut it down instantly.

[X] You have a sorceress here too; can she confuse the issue even further without preparation?
[X] Think on it for a bit, you have time; Inau-kun has good points here.

Leaning back – carefully – you think on it for a small eternity, which for everyone else is a few seconds. Typically you don't like putting people who aren't yours at risk, especially in a situation like this, where they can come up against things they're not really prepared for. Of course, Reiha is here, and that means Peta-chan is also here, and with her permission you can have the nogitsune-children take risks you would find unacceptable under ordinary (for you) circumstances.

It doesn't help that these aren't ordinary circumstances (even for you) at all.

The fact that Er Yin-sensei is capable of sorcery is something you haven't taken too much advantage of either. She's helped you out with a few things, but those were mostly her making suggestions and asking if she could provide assistance. Until now, you haven't had a reason to place her in danger or request anything extraordinary from her. Part of that is simply the fact that you wanted her and Kiku-chan to become close again, and to give her a chance to acclimatize to this world and these duties. But she has said, more than once, that all her powers, all her life is at your command.

“Er Yin-sensei. Can you use your abilities to further confuse the identity issues and take advantage of the situation? I know very little of your skill, aside from the fact that you're not a practitioner of omnyodo.”

“There are certain steps I can take, yes, Ryukusa-sama. They are subtle and will be difficult to detect even for the most sensitive of spirit-children.” She smiles, pleased that you're taking so well to Inau-kun's suggestion. “It will take very little time and effort.”

The taiko drums start, slow, thunderous beats that fill the room as people settle down. “I think you are right Inau-kun. We have potential advantages we're not using, and circumstances have changed drastically. I think I may need time to figure out how to manage it, but I think you're on to a very good idea.” Er Yin-sensei smiles knowingly, and you have the sneaking suspicion Inau-kun is the victim of some gentle psychological support from an expert. “I'll think on it carefully.”

Inau-kun bows her head. “Thank you, Ryukusa-sama!” she declares earnestly and you smile.

“Aniki is fine, sweetheart.” She blushes brightly and you feel her pulse pounding, as well as seeing the confusion the endearment engenders in her.

“Pay no attention to the idiot in the seat next to you,” Kiku-chan mutters not-quite under her breath.

“Hush, Toto,” you murmur as you pull Kiku-chan close as Kiki-hime rises. Along with Kiku's soft hair, of course, as the rush of heated air explodes from around her.

The Warrior rises, her mask set aside, her face set in an expression much like those of the others, carefully set to allow the same techniques that can be used by an actor wearing a noh-mask to provide expressions by the use of light and shadow. It explains why the lighting for this particular play is unusual. Kiki-hime is really pushing a number of boundaries. Then she begins to dance, her movements graceful and precise, yet artfully casual and distinctively bold.

Though my household is small, my lineage is long and distinguished. But it is not my lineage that compels me to take up sword and armor now. One member of my household is the equal of all others, and from the Most Valuable Wife, to the most Humble of Servants, none may trespass against my small clan without facing me. From Heaven or Hell, Demons have come for one who is mine to protect, and I cannot let them harm any who have entered my home and been granted my love and friendship. That you serve a Great Dragon Kami means nothing! That you stand four times my height means nothing! That you claim kinship to the one whom has dedicated his life to me means nothing! Your cruelty has condemned you, and I will not give up my Beloved Servant, whom you once saw as the very least of vermin!

The Warrior draws his sword! With magic and cunning the Demons have tricked the Warrior into an unfair battle! Yet still he fights, for his Lowly Servant is no less valuable to him than the mother of His Child, the Priestess who reveres him, the Seer who guides him, or the Tender of his Garden! He fights for what is Honorable, and Just! The Demons redouble their efforts, but all for naught – even with one arm cut off, the Warrior cannot allow himself to fall. So he fights, and when all seems lost....he STRIKES, breaking through the illusions and trickery, slaying both Demons with a single blow!

The Warrior collapses to one knee, and though it is at great cost, he is Victorious. He has honored his Family, and Protected his small Clan. Kuroukami hides his face in shame, and the Warrior is given his due: Peace and honor, as he turns away, returning to the Love of his Family and his beloved Servant.

The lights rise and the applause is thunderous.

(I respectfully ask your imperial highness' permission to place your children and Chisato's Yakuza in grave danger in order to protect Kiki-hime. I apologize for not preparing for this sooner, but a complication has arisen, and I require more help than I anticipated.)

( 「(゚ペ) )

(I have been injured and I have been asked to seek assistance by my clan so that I may be protected as well as Kiki-hime. I sincerely apologize for being intrusive, your imperial highness, and will find some suitable recompense for your trouble and the danger in which I am placing your people. Inau-kun and Er Yin-sensei can deliver instruction and requests to your people.)

((ΦωΦ))

Okay, this is getting downright weird. (Ice cream is certainly a possibility, if that is what your imperial highness desires.)

( (۶•̀ᴗ•́)۶ )

( (´・` ) )

(I love you too. Please give my love to Chi-chan as well.)

( (ノ*゚ー゚)ノ )

([I]....I don't think I necessarily needed to know that, Peta-chan.)

( ( ̄~ ̄) )

That was quite possibly the weirdest conversation you have ever had in your life.

Coming from someone who practices Water dragonette diplomacy, that's saying something.

“Inau-niji-kun, Er Yin-sensei.” You quickly reduce Inau-kun's blood pressure to something manageable. “Please inform and instruct the Black Clan of their new duties. Kiku-chan and I will meet with Kiki-hime and the niji-chans. Reiha will assist from her side, so concentrate on this side of the theater. Peta-chan is aware of what is going on.” Before Inau-kun gets up you gently pluck her sleeve. She stops and then sits back down slowly, looking at you with worry.

“Are you prepared to accept the consequences of what may happen to the people you have requested these things of, Inau-kun? Toshio Ryoga and the Kaga Clan are not like myself, and will not care about harming, killing, or using people to achieve their goals, regardless of the cost.” She nods slowly, though it's clear your words have an impact upon her. “Remember – it is my decision to use your suggestion. Their deaths are mine to atone for, or avenge. But you have a tender heart, Inau-kun, and while that is not a bad thing, it means you will suffer for anything that happens to them.”

“That is my right, Ryukusa. But if it comes to a choice between you and the princess, or others, then I know what I must choose.” She rises, her expression steadfast and her heart calm. Er Yin smiles and takes her had, leading her down the other side of the aisle.

You carefully pick up Kiku-chan and place her on the ground, her light build making it easier on you. “This is still extremely dangerous, aniki,” she warns you. “Injuries like yours make you vulnerable to every person, not merely spirit children and sorcerers.” You pick up Omukade-sama and place her in your belt, at your back.

“And yet here we are, my darling.” She flushes and takes your hand as you finish getting to your feet. Leading the way, she is careful to politely wait for anyone ahead of you, so that there is little chance of you being bumped casually. While you do not spot or sense any threats immediately, the real problem will be approaching the dressing rooms. Even with heightened security there will be a number of people there, including, undoubtedly, agents and would be producers.

“This would be much easier in a Barrier,” Kiku-chan mutters unhappily as you finally make it to the walkway. Your injuries are starting to hurt a great deal, which. “Are you certain of this, Ryukusa-dono?”

She almost never uses your name so formally, and it's worrying. “As I told Inau-kun, there isn't much alternative. It's a lot more difficult when it's a plan made of two people getting to a specific door. Not much wiggle room in that kind of plan.” Your priestess tsks softly, but doesn't argue the point.

[] Stage entrance it is, as planned.
[] See if you can make it around the building to the actors' entrance instead.
[] Cheat and use the front stage entrance where the actors move onto the stage, as impolite as it may be.
[] Call some of your own 'security' to assist clearing a path.
[] Call Akari on the phone and have her lend some assistance if she can.

[X] Stage entrance it is, as planned.
[XX] Call some of your own 'security' to assist clearing a path.
[XXX] Call Akari on the phone and have her lend some assistance if she can.

You take out your cell phone and speed dial Akari. “Niji-chan, I need some assistance getting to the back stage entrance. I'm injured, and there's a lot of conversation and people in the way.”

“How badly injured, aniki?” she asks very, very quietly, almost breathing into the phone.

“Akari, please refer to the previous statement.”

“....it's taken care of. Make your way down to the side entrance, aniki.” She hangs up immediately and you blink at the suddenness of it.

You glance around, and notice a familiar face nearby. Gesturing to the very pretty nogitsune-child with a penchant for camera work and an overly shy tomboyish companion, you are pleased to see that she carefully makes her way to you with a minimum of attention. Which is pretty impressive considering her school uniform is from Celestial High. “Hi. I am Kurosune Fyuko. I am sixteen years old, blood type O, and my club activities are mahjong and kendo. Please take care of me!” At which point she bows to you, which of course prompts you to place one arm under your breasts, rest your other elbow on the back of your wrist, and grip your chin thoughtfully while looking down at her.

Well, if you can't beat them....

“So you're Fyuko, huh? Well, this is Kiku, and I'm Ryukusa. I'm told you can help me get to the backstage entrance without any trouble.” She stands up and thrusts her chest out proudly, saluting you imperiously. So far your tiny audience is charmed and amused by the cos-play and several are wondering if it's some kind of kyogen play. You lean over and overtly tuck a few hundred yen bills into her pocket, which she stoically doesn't even blush at despite the fact that her breast pocket is currently more breast than pocket. “Excellent! Lead on! Kiku! Prepare for battle!”

Kiku salutes you. “Yes sir!” in the most adorably saccharine voice you've heard in almost weeks. Well, aside from the Love Hotel attendant. And maybe a couple of the Harajuku girls. Kiku takes a slender black wand with gold-edged, red colored shide charms out of Nowhere. You're not even sure why she would have such a thing, but it's clearly not ceremonial. As far as you know, anyways. She points the wand down the aisle. “Make way for the Master at once peasants!” she cries loudly as the schoolgirl snaps a second salute and does a sharp about face.

“This way, sir!” Fyuko declares and starts walking with deliberate slow-march, as you pull a cap from under your jacket – and equally out of Nowhere – and put on with a rakish forward tilt that hides one of your eyes. Unsurprisingly, people make way for you. Not out of any actual respect or fear, but because it's so obvious that you're part of a play, and they don't with to impede your progress.

“That warrior has some nerve horning in on my turf!” you state loudly, and there are soft cla0ps and catcalls, as well a number of 'oohs' and 'Kumatori-chan will defeat you!' cries. You really are kind of surprised at the tomboy's reluctance – that is one cute bottom under the skirt. With panties, this time, fortunately. And a very fluffy tail.

“Silence, dogs! Give Master Dragon the respect he deserves!” your priestess calls out, only to receive more catcalls and similarly derogatory comments, which she otherwise ignores.

When you reach the side door that leads to the backstage, you are met – of course – by the tomboy who was with Fyuko earlier. “Master Dragon! You aren't supposed to be here!” she cries loudly, taking up the play instantly. “You cannot pass, not if Hisoka Shirokami has anything to say about it!” she says, taking up the most exaggerated karate pose you've seen ever.

“How dare you!” cries your priestess and she steps in front of you. “You cannot stand before Master Dragon, boy!” The pants and black school uniform of a boy doesn't quite help conceal her curves, fortunately.

“Ah, I know how to deal with this kind of foe!” you declare and push Kiku-chan 'roughly' to the side, which she of course takes in stride. You walk up to the 'boy, and place one hand on your hip, taking off your coat and hanging it over one shoulder. “Tell me, kid, how do you plan to stop me?!”

He trembles, visibly, exaggerating for the sake of the play. “....I'll kill you to death, even if you cant die, Master dragon!” That gets a lot of hoots and laughs, as well as 'get him!' and 'yeah!' of course. The punch he delivers is slow and just as ridiculous, and you sidestep it, leaning down and grinning.

“You've got your father's spunk, kid! But I'll let you in on a secret!” You kiss the tomboy's cheek and that gets scandalized gasps and claps, and LOT of squeals from the girls, despite the fact that you're about as boyish as Kiku-chan. “I really liked your dad!” He collapses, gasping, and all to the side, unblocking your way to the door.

Turning dramatically, you pose proudly, as he picks himself up, exaggeratedly staggering 'his' bow while Fyuko curtsies and Kiku-chan bows ceremoniously. “We'll see who survives in the end!” you cry loudly, whirling your coat off your shoulder and sending it into the seats as you push the door open.

You grin as the girls speak as one. “NOT HIM!” to scatted applause and laughter. Gan and his boyfriend are there, along with a smiling Akari, looking confused.

“Sometimes I think I missed my true callings in other, much safer professions, niji-chan,” you murmur with a smile as you lean back against the wall, breathing hard.

“You haven't tried to leave the building yet,” is her softly cheerful reply, as she salutes you in a far more respectful and meaningful manner.

“....Oh.”

Thanks for running! It was very nice. The Noh play is great from start to finish.

That sounds very ominous, though.
