Your name is /qst/-tan. You're a cute boy who loves going on adventures and telling stories about distant lands and playing around with all the anons who tell you what to do!

You're a bit lonely though. While you have a good imagination, and can sort of deal with being without any parental supervision, you kind of wish you had more people to play with.

>Knock knock

What's that? There's a mailman walking away from your door.

Awesome! You just got mail mail mail! The mailman, after braving the swamps and dragons surrounding your house has managed to get past the ensorcelled flap and inserted his precious cargo!

You wonder how much exp the guy must have by now. Like, there's a hundred houses in you area, and he brings mail every day to everyone. He must be really high-levelled by now!

Anyway!

You tear through the gauzy depths of the envelope, shredding its gold lines to get to the treasure within! It's a secret message, one that has been passed down for generations! Year after year, conveyed down through the ages with whispered reverence...

>To whom it may concern.

>You are invited to the 4chan Winter Ball. It is a yearly 4chan occasion to which anthropomorphic personifications of the different boards invite each other. You are to discuss within and without your board, argue and vote and then invite another board. You and your chosen partner will join the rest in the ball which will be held in Purgatory, most likely. Fun and glory shall be had by all, except /r9k/.

>Side effects may include but are not limited to: Nausea, constipation, shitposts, regret, despair, ennui, arrogance, bickering and nasty cases of fanart. No one can be held responsible.

Wow! If you were to pick someone good, and then have fun with them... You might be able to make more friends to play with! This is definitely something you want to do!

But, uh. Who should you invite? Should you talk to someone else before you decide?

So. Who do you want to go out with, and who do you think would be fun to play off of? /cm/ (Cute Male) seems to be dead, /d/ (the hentai board) might be a bit out of /qst/'s innocence range, we could easily make a Cooking Quest with the /ck/ cooking board. /i/ (Drawing Board) is deadish, though we could get some fanartists, which would be great. I think we might be feuding with Traditional Gaming, it depends on the poster. Some of them miss us and our creativity, and some of them are glad we're gone.

You decide to call up your dad, /tg/. He is your dad, right? Probably.

>"Hi /tg/! I just got a note in the mail inviting me to the Winter Ball! So I'm calling to ask your advice. Who should we ask out?"

There's a lengthy silence over the line, so you try to fill in the gap...

"No, we don't miss you, we're perfectly fine on our own! But it has been a bit too quiet since we left home..."

You hope he doesn't hang up on you. You get the feeling he... might not like you that much anymore.

Ugh, it's /qst/ again. Yes okay, he's kind of cute, but he's not supposed to be here!

"What are you doing, calling here? I kicked you out of the house for a reason. You were being too messy, leaving your threads everywhere!"

/qst/-tan answers, maybe a bit desperately, "We used to have fun together, what happened? I just want to have fun with you again, don't you like fun?"

Ugh, this again. /tg/ is serious business, you've got no time for games! You hang up.

You're /qst/-tan and your dad just hung up on you. That's... that's sad.

Well fine. You don't think he had any good advice for you anyway. Someone as grouchy as him would never get a date.

/i/ is a cute choice for us, I think. They're constantly drawing, we're constantly writing. Even if we don't interact, the activities lend themselves to inspiring each other often.

/d/'s really pleasant and I love all the people there, but they have a predator instinct to defile our shota-tan and I don't think we can make it through the ball before they let that slip. You're /qst/-tan, and you're finished crying now. You no longer have any intention of talking to your brother /tg/-tan, he's just mean and jealous and cranky and probably never even showers and you don't miss him at all.

You need to go out somewhere. You're going to get a date to the Winter Ball, and it's going to be much better than /tg/-tan's. They'll actually be nice, and you'll have fun adventures together!

Sniff.

"Hey, /qst/-tan, what's wrong?" It's Auntie /d/-tan, with her tentacles and horns and kind smile. She's outside her house watering the large pitcher plants with a hose. That is a hose, right? You quickly stop thinking about it, you're an innocent blue board after all. That sort of stuff is left to your stepbrother, Akun.

"Nothing's wrong," you reply. "I just scraped my knee fighting a dragon and then I took its hide and grafted it to my wounds so everything's alright now!"

Your name is /d/-tan, also known as Demona, and you don't believe the child in front of you. Poor kid probably got dumped for the Winter Ball.

>Comfort

The child still looks sad, no matter how much he talked about dragons. You decides to comfort him a little.

"Oh honey, everyone has to deal with their own dragons, and sometimes we get hurt. Everyone has their ugly, disgusting, mean and pitiful sides to them, and sometimes facing them hurts. That's why we all wear masks here. All you can do is accept that part of you wholly, and bravely face the future." This plays into the hidden fetishes of people, you know. quite well, those embarrassing, weak, pathetic and cruel fetishes you specializes in. Acceptance is your forte, and always will be.

/qst/-tan avoids your gaze. "I just hurt my knee, okay? I'm not hiding from parts of myself. I know I'm not... people don't really like me very much. And I'm okay with that, I've got adventures..."

You kneel to his level. "I like you. You're creative, you're excitable, you're smart, so I think you'll be okay. I'll send Deelette to play with you when she gets back, so don't worry too much. I'm sure you'll have lots of fun together." He's still avoiding your eyes, but he's blushing under his bangs and pot helmet. You hope you got through to him.

"Thank you." He says quietly. "I'll... go try fighting some more dragons."

>Thank you very much, /d/. It's been a pleasure, and if you feel like sending over Deelette to play with us, we'd be happy to play with you.
>It's not 4chan, but I'm sure all your sick and twisted fetishes are available in Anonkun's quests, and if they're not, they'd be happy if you contributed some more.

You're going to be brave. You're frightened you're going to lose everyone, you're worried you'll be forgotten and you're scared you won't be able to have fun anymore. You're scared of growing up. But you're going to keep trying anyway. You're going to keep trying to get more friends, you're going to keep creating, you're going to put in the effort to keep your worlds together!

And you're going to go ask out /i/. She's cute, she's artistic, she's generous when she's not exhausted. She's like you, sorta. You can make up stories for you both to play and she can draw them and you'll have lots of fun together!

Alright. Here's what we're going to do. We're going to go up to /i/'s house and ask her out, but we're also going to present her with our best quests and the ones we think she'll enjoy most.

So. Give in your suggestions! Maybe three excellent quests, and three fun drawthreads?

I'm thinking Audit Quest and Lamplighter so far, and whichever quest pic related was.
>>
>>2073098
What would an adventuring party of the three do together?

>>2073178
Remember that /i/ is a slow board. If you do make a new thread be sure to actually draw in it. Even if it's just scribbly doodles.

Otherwise you might want to just use the board-tan thread there. But also still make the doodles.
>>

>Remember that /i/ is a slow board. If you do make a new thread be sure to actually draw in it. Even if it's just scribbly doodles.
>Otherwise you might want to just use the board-tan thread there. But also still make the doodles.
>doodles
I can make stick figures, but that's the limit of my art. I'd like it if people who put more work into learning were to brigade the thread, since I'm only going to be contributing art that looks like it could be a snarl of yarn.
>>
>>2073178
>>2073039
Which quests do you think will impress or interest /i/? She's a proudly bad artist.

>Lamplighter Quest
>Audit Quest
>Whirlpool Quest
>This Wretched Sea: Trawler Quest
>Psion Academy Quest
>Oni-chan Slayer Quest
>Audit Quest
>Maverick Hunter Quest
>Magical Girl For Hire Quest
>Write-in
>>
>>2073280
>Lamplighter Quest
>This Wretched Sea: Trawler Quest
Of these two, I think Wretched Sea is a better choice. It has drawfaggotry for catching eyes, and the quest itself is okay. Even if you get inspired by reading, it's very hit or miss if you even like what you read, or if you have time for it.

>Psion Academy Quest
>Audit Quest
So following that logic, I think these two would be the best accompanying options. Short, and visually appealing.

One thing I'm curious about is whether to accompany them with some examples of higher quality writing instead of doodles. Lamplighter fills that category, but it's as dark and grimy as Wretched Sea. Aren't there other well written quests we could put forward? That's supposed to be our thing, after all. We make the adventure!

Holy shit, i-tan is fucking adorable.
>>
A couple of possibilities I forgot:

http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=notapaladin
Not a Paladin made a bunch of silly Civ drawquests, they're the originator of the dripping dragon pic.
Heavenly Child Quest is also a possibility, though it runs into the gloom predilection too, no matter what Moloch says about his lighter tone.
I'm leaving out Re:Spider and Magical Girl Noir Quest, since they're mainly /tg/.
>>
>>2073216

>What if /qst/ joined Deelette's party to "assault" a snow fortress?

>>
>>2073462
So what if we frame it like this: We present some cute drawquests to /i/ as something she might like, and then say that we also have a lot better stories but we know they may not have time to look through all of them? Then we can use that as a prompt to ask them what they're interested in, and then search for quests that match those criteria while we chatter on about maybe kinda sorta wondering if they had anyone to go to the ball with, or not.
>>

Your name is /i/-tan, and you're a struggling artist. At the moment, you're struggling with another board-tan, /bant/! She asked you for some help with her hair, but now she won't get off the phone, this conversation feels like it's taking forever. Maybe it has?

"You think that blue hair is too annoying, and that brown hair is too boring. Yes. I know that choosing an image before the Winter Ball is important, but you're stressing too much about it!" You haven't gotten an invitation yourself, but it's really only a matter of time. Everyone is always asking you for something... You do enjoy it though! Really! You love fulfilling requests. But sometimes...

Some more indignant noises on the phone-

>Knock, knock.

Hurray! Your salvation has arrived! You really didn't want to be mean, and now you don't have to be!

"It's been great talking to you, /bant/-tan, but someone's at the door!"

>Bye Leaf-chan!"
>Just hang up abruptly.

>>522743 (OP)

"It's been great talking to you, /bant/-tan, but someone's at the door!"

"What? No, don't go, come on. You're the best, I need your help-" /bant/-tan is still trying to talk over you.

Okay, now you feel like being a bit mean. "Bye Leaf-chan!" There's a squawk of outrage over the line before she starts to rant about how she wasn't Leaf-chan and that was all a forced meme by niggerjew outboarders but you're not actually listening.

You hang up. Then you take a moment to enjoy the sudden sweet silence. You've been wanting to do that for a long, long time. Then you put on your best smile and answer the door. "Who is it?" You call.

The door opens up on a kid about your age, probably a bit younger, with a smile on his face. You size him up. Red shirt, black sleeves, navy shorts, green neckerchief. Cute outfit, all in all. Completing the ensemble, he wears a wooden shield on his back and a pot on his head, complete with light blue panties.

"Hi! I'm /qst/-tan," he says. "Do you want to go on an adventure with me?"

>How do you respond?

>Are those panties on his head? Why?

>>>/i/522767
>"Hi! I'm /qst/-tan," he says. "Do you want to go on an adventure with me?"

You usual smile becomes a grin. An adventure? /qst/-tan was a pretty new kid on the block, only a bit older than /bant/. A year and a half, maybe? He tended to keep to himself, but you've seen him running around swinging his sword.

"Why don't you come inside? I'll make you some tea and we'll talk a bit." He nods happily and walks past you, holding his small stack of books.

"I'd like that a lot! Hey, what's that?" He asks, pointing at your tablet.

You scramble to get there before he does, you don't want to have to explain what you've been working on. "It's a tablet, it's used to draw easily. Like an easel!" Ignoring any other possible interpretation of his question, you whisk away to start making tea for him, coffee for you. Young kids shouldn't get coffee.

"I know what a tablet is, I have drawquests too!"

You're older than he is... probably. Even if he is only a bit shorter than you and boys grow slower than girls. At least you're more mature than he is! You're a red board and he's only a blue. That make you more mature than him. After all, you draw penises regularly.

Speaking of which. "Hey, why are you wearing panties on your head? Whose are they?" You call into the drawing room.

"They're mine!" Comes back the answer. "And before that they were /d/-tan's!" Ewwwww, you giggle, careful not to spill hot water on yourself. While you're sure /d/ is fine as a person, the panties probably aren't very sanitary. She comes onto you occasionally, insisting on things you sometimes don't feel like giving.

>>>/i/522781
>>>/i/522776 (You)
"And why are you wearing them?" You put lots of sugar and milk into both your drinks.

"/d/-tan said they were magic. In a really cool voice, too," he says animatedly as you walk back into the room.

"Yeah? How did she say it?" you ask, morbidly intrigued.

He's happy to mimic /d/-tan's sultry voice. "These panties are absolutely maagical," he moans, his voice going down an octave or two, lending a smoky timbre to the words. Young boys are not supposed to be able to sound that dirty! What have you been teaching this kid, /d/-tan?!

Change the subject! "W-why did you want to come over, /qst/-tan?"

"I wanted to ask you out to the Winter Ball!"

Oh.

>Change the subject! "W-why did you want to come over, /qst/-tan?"
>"I wanted to ask you out to the Winter Ball!"
>Oh.

The Winter Ball was a crossboard tradition, where each year a board would ask another board with similar interests out. It tended to come with lots of fanart, some writefaggotry, some arguing, lots of camaraderie and a little bit of heartbreak.

You're not bothered by the invitation. You're mostly just curious, maybe a bit pleased. Even if he's a kid; this is probably his first experience with any sort of ball, haha. "Is this your first time going to the Winter Ball?" you ask.

"Yes, it is. It's going to be great! Everyone's going to be there, there's partying and drawing and lots of salt! Is it your first time too?" he asks innocently, sipping his tea. Urk. He hit a weak spot! Medic, medic!

"Um, yeah." You take a quick gulp of your coffee, hiding your face for a moment. "Why did you ask me out, though? Why me?" You have an idea, but maybe he's not going to just try to use you for your gifts. You're not one of the bigger boards, you're not one of the fastest or most exciting. Why did /qst/ specifically want you?
You're /qst/-tan and you've just been asked a very serious question. So far you've had a great time, passing the DCs with flying colors. You've managed to enter /i/-tan's fortress and you're sipping on some of her powerful elixir. She kept the most powerful for herself, though.

This is probably the tipping point. This answer will determine whether or not /i/ will go out with you to the Winter Ball. Her smile, light tone and her curious eyes mask the importance of the query.

Why did you decide to ask /i/ out, specifically? What do you like about her, what made you want her company over anyone else's?

Every week an interesting new adventure comes by only to be pushed out for more space for shitty fanfiction quests.

Since /qst/ here embodies our board, he's inevitably going to feel the draw of assembling a harem, isn't he?

>Since /qst/ here embodies our board, he's inevitably going to feel the draw of assembling a harem, isn't he?
Gosh I hope not. Harems don't really work from the other side, and the other boards will have their own opinions.

>You're cute and around my age.

/i/ is End Game. Everyone else is a distraction, or worse, a THOT. Deelette is exempt as a childhood friend?

>>2076954
Harems aren't a thing. Stay dedicated to the one true wa/i/fu!

I think it's also worth noting that both our boards roll around at roughly the same speed, activity wise. In other words, we're on similar wavelengths.

Days, weeks, and months can be spent just quietly doodling and writing next to each other, interspersed by a few hectic days of adventure, before it's back to the metaphorical drawing board.

>We're a lot alike. We're both creative, we both like making stuff for other people.

/qst/ considers the question, then grins. "You're cute, and about my age, and creative! We both like making stuff for other people, we both like a blend of silliness and hard work! We like to make other people happy through our own efforts. We're a lot alike! Except for the cute part. I'm not cute," He says, barely stopping to breathe.

Put that way, you are a lot alike! He might be overstating how likely you are to fulfill requests, but that just must be how you seem to other boards. You reserve the right to disagree about the cute part.

"I really just want your company, /i/-tan. I want you to play with me, read my quests, participate and have fun. That's really all I need from you. If you're inspired, if you were to enjoy the quests so much you wanted to add your own efforts to the story, that's just extra topping!"

He spreads out his books to show you. "These are some of my favorite quests that I think you'll like. Come have a look!"

>They're beautiful. There's a dark cover with a lit lamppost, one featuring a plain woman wearing a crown, a cover with a smoking ship and one labelled Cupid Quest.

Oh hey, another /qst/-tan quest. I was the QM for /qst/-tan quest 1 and 2 that happened about over a year ago. I remember we asked out /cm/ last year's winterball and they made some art of the pairing, who are we going with this year?

sorry for flaking from /qst/-tan quest 2,
I was busy as fuck and shouldn't have started it.
>>
>>2079755
Whoops, didn't know that. Thought we weren't around for last year's Winter Ball.

Post the links please, so I can decide whether or not to take them into account.

>Cupid Quest.

>>/i/522991
You point at the one labelled Cupid Quest. "Cupid Quest seems appropriate. What's that one about?"

"Appropriate? It's about a boy who goes to heaven and gets recruited by Cupid! It's really just a silly little oneshot I thought you'd like, since it's a simple drawquest."

"But, um. Will you go to the Winter Ball with me? You didn't say." He's staring at you, pink spots on his cheeks, fists balled. Awaiting your answer.

>"Sure."
>"I'd love to!"
>"Um. No."
>"Maybe just as friends?"
>>
Alright, if we can get everyone pre-emptively panicking, that should save some time.

I don't know of any sites that archive /qst/ threads, but I made a pastebin that gave a

Thanks for the paste.

The thread's off /i/ now. Should we try to continue?

Here's the archive of the thread on /i/.

You got too pushy with that last post.

I told you /i/ is a slow board, something like this would take DAYS if not longer.
>>
>>2083968
The thread got nuked. But sure, I'll not push for votes next time. That is the question though. Should there be a next time? Were you having fun?
>>
>>2083989
Probably best to just leave it as is. Getting nuked once was our fun and games, if we get nuked again we'll just be a nuisance.
>>
>>2083989
Problem is, ball threads are being deleted on every board across the site with the exception of /qa/ and /trash/.

You just can't start a thread with winter ball in the topic or the OP.

With that in mind, I don't think this is an issue of being turned down, this is an issue of not being allowed to talk about it on either front.
>>
>>2084163
Mods are so weird.
>>
>the thread on /cm/ got deleted even though people were dumping /cm/ images

wew mods. Should we try asking /cm/ again and make it clear in the OP that it's also a thread for /cm/-related board-tan art? They allowed the thread last year.
>>
>>2084559
Nah. We did get a couple more 'Yes' votes than 'No' votes on /i/. We just wanted some more. I think we're probably going out with /i/ now.
>>
>>2086454
There were only like 3 votes, I don't think that's really enough. I feel like we should do a strawpoll to see which board we want to ask, and then make a more board-related thread on the board we choose. so we can make it more "official" who we're going with.

Here's a strawpoll:

Well guess that settles it, we're going with /i/. It will probably be a good idea to ask them in the current Board-tan thread they have up, or making a new thread dedicated to drawing art of the pairing. I hope it gets a lot of cute art like /qstcm/ did last year.

Also, I was planning on doing /qst/-tan Quest 3 sometime soon since I've been getting more free time lately and been itching to run a quest. And because I want to make up for the trainwreck that was /qst/-tan Quest 2. It'll be in the JRPG style of the first two quests, and this time I have a bunch of new ideas interesting ideas for it.

And yes, Todd will once again try to make us buy his game
