"God shit-fucking damn it!" Logan cursed as he stumbled behind you, before crashing into the trunk of a tree. The noise of roots being up-ended and twigs snapping catching both yours and Kyouko's attention.

"Going back to your roots Logan?" Kyouko asked jovially as she walked up to Logan and helped him up. Her friendly having returned after a few days rest.

"If I wanted to go back to my roots, I'd fuck back off to the farm." Logan cursed bitterly as he was helped up, a deep scowl on his face as he returned to his feet. Ever since your team had left the ant hill a few days ago, everybody in your entire unit had tripped over the heavy roots in the ground more than once.

Typically however, it was usually the person at the front who would trip up the most. Courtesy of having to keep an eye out for threats in front of the unit. Not the man in the middle of your 3-person train.

Regardless, your team had left the ant hill after a few days of planning your next moves and resting. You had been able to talk for a bit with the only other field team that was in the base with you, though they were not much help right now as they were assigned to support missions, mostly gathering air drops.

Right now however, your team was currently trudging through the dense forest on your way to...

You were all currently taken a relatively short gander out of base to head to the Hengyang supply base. It was already getting close to nightfall, with your squad having treked directly to the supply base itself. Your team moving at a sedate pace with only a limited amount of ordinance. This was just a recon mission, not an all-out assault.

Your trek had been worst when heading down the mountain, recent rain had made the mountainside muddy and wet, forcing all of you to be careful lest you fell. With all the rocks that were laying around, a single fall could break bones if the person landed the wrong way. And wasting magic so early in a mission just to fix someone else's slip-up was not something that Kyouko wanted to do. Regardless, once you reached the flat lands beneath the mountain's shadow, it was relatively smooth sailing.

"So, remind me again why the hell are we wasting time to get into some guarded as hell base that's packed full of Japanese soldiers?" Logan asked as your squad began to move off again. Your footsteps through the brush being slightly muffled by the mud.

"We're not entering the base, we're only getting close to look at their defences. That's all we're here for." You reminded Logan as you spied a road a good few hundred feet away. And as with any other road crossing, you stopped in your tracks and listened for the sound of movement along the road.

And you heard something allright, the sound of a large engine and of metal tracks clanking together.

"Everyone down!" You hissed at your squad as you ducked into cover. Your squad following suit just behind you.

"What's coming?" Logan asked as you looked around for the source of the noise. But not only were you unable to see the tank, you were unable to accurately determine if it was coming or going.

"There's a tank out there. We can't advance." You reported as you relaxed slightly. At the very least, if you couldn't see the tank then the tank couldn't see you. "I don't know if it's coming or going."

>Hold position, wait to see if anything changes.

"Stay down for now. We don't know if they're coming or going." You ordered quietly, before sinking deeper into the mud and the shrubbery. Just behind you, your comrades whispered their confirmations as they followed your lead.

You laid perfectly still in the dirt for a quarter of an hour, until the tank slowly rolled into view. The big lumbering beast moving slowly and loudly at walking pace, with it's gun turret pointing into the jungle. The tank's commander peeking out of the turret's cupola. Just behind him, a good squad of heavily armed infantry trudged along. Each soldier armed with a sub machinegun or a rifle. Each soldier watched the treeline as they trudged along behind the tank at a slow walk. Each soldier scanned the treeline, and you forced yourself not to move and give your position away. You seemed to lock eyes with a particular soldier, who stared at your position for a good few seconds. But in the end, he gave in first and walked off.

You waited for a good half an hour, waiting for the sound of the tank's engines to die away into the background noise of the jungle before standing up and gesturing for your team to get up.

"What kind of patrol has that much firepower?" Kyouko asked as she brushed a pair of branches off her leg. You cautiously made your way towards the road with your team in tow.

"We're practically right out side of one of the biggest Japanese bases in the region. The Japanese probably want to keep the local area secure." You reasoned quietly as the jungle began to thin out. And from the lack of unnatural sound, you reasoned that the tank was long gone.

"But why? Any attack meant for the base is going to be large enough to take out a tank and a squad of men." Kyouko reasoned as you reached the side of the road. The tracks of multiple bootprints and tank tracks were cut deep into the mud in the ground. You looked either way, but saw nothing nearby.

"And? Any kind of loud noise during any attempt to take out one of those patrols will end up with alert the base. And if the assault force manages to evade those roaming tank patrols, then the tank patrols will likely converge on their location once they start shooting. As such, the assaulting force will have to dedicate people to protecting their rear. It's a good strategy, if you accept that the patrols are likely to die if there is a concerted effort to attack the base." Logan explained as your squad crossed the road quickly. Each of you skipping between the left behind boot-prints to help you keep your own tracks concealed.

Thankfully, the supply base was located north of the city of Hengyang, so you didn't have to enter into the packed city just to get close to the supply base. As such, you could get closer without being noticed by anybody. Unfortunately however, after trekking for half an hour you were forced to stop 10 feet from the edge of the treeline. This treeline being the edge of the base' killing field.

Your prisoner hadn't been lying after all.

The base itself was walled in by a high, crenellated wall. Just below the battlements of the wall was an overhang of barbed wire, which would make scaling the wall even harder than it was before. Not to mention the defensive towers that were fitted with mounted guns, and were obviously occupied. Just behind the wall, you saw the telltale glow of floodlights, proving that the base was very well lit.

"So, it's built like a fortress..." Logan stated, before turning to you. "And we came out here just to confirm that it's going to be a bitch to get into?"

You stared at the high walls for a few more seconds, before turning back to your squadmates. The both of them staring at the base with a cold and calculating gaze.

"Come on. There has to be a way in." You stated as you carefully got back up and retreated deeper into the treeline, letting the dense trees keep you covered from the prying eyes of the Japanese guards. Your squad formed up behind you as you took a clockwise route around the perimiter of the base. And you didn't have to wait long until you spotted something interesting.

Just ahead, you spotted a break in the base's walls. This break in the walls being made to accommodate for a railway track, which continued along a well lit path past the treeline, which t cut straight through. This break in the wall however, was not completely undefended. Straddling the railway was a chain link fence, which was topped with barbed wire. And on either side of the gate was a pair of concrete bunkers, which were flanked by a pair of weaker looking pillboxes. The bunkers were armed with a pair of heavy machine guns. While the pillboxes were armed with a pair of machine guns each. From inside each bunker, you could just about see the tell tale signs of occupation. But even with your enhanced eyesight, it was a struggle, as the harsh floodlighting from inside the base and the darkness inside each unlit bunker created the perfect contrast.

"This is where the trains must come in." Kyouko stated the obvious as your squad caught up with you.

"Well, the walls are at least the weakest here. It should be the easiest to assault." Logan assessed wisely, before then adding. "But the bunkers are a problem. If we charged it then we'd be cut to ribbons."

"What about explosives? Xuan's cells have those spigot launchers, they could probably punt a mortar round into the bunkers prior to an assault." Kyouko suggested as you creeped further along, trying to get a deeper look into the train yard.

"What about the trains? Maybe we could board one and sneak in?" Logan suggested as your squad creeped around in the brush. You continued on until you were practically next to the railway tracks, so that you could look into the base. Looking past the chainlink fence, you saw that the station inside was otherwise empty, and that the railway tracks continued through the base and off into the distance towards the city of Hengyang.

"Maybe, though we would have to figure out their timetable..." You pointed out to your squadmate, the lack of an accurate timetable would practically kill any chances you had to make that plan work.

"Come on. We've done what we came here for." You stated, before standing up and turning to leave.

"Are you sure? Couldn't there be other ways in?" Logan asked as he got up from behind the tree that he had taken up position behind.

"The only other way in would be either the front gate, or their sewage pipe. The former would be even more heavily defended than the train yard back there, and I'm not too keen on getting into a base via a pipe filled to the brim with human piss and shit." You stated bluntly, you didn't fancy either of those options. You could spin a shield to stop most automatic weapons fire, and enhance your sword with the power to cleave through a bunker. But you knew that an assault on the front gate would be too taxing on your powers for it to be reasonable.

As for the sewers, you had to have at least some standards. Not to mention that the stench of month-old shit would be very counter-intuitive for sneaking around the base if you did somehow manage to get into the base.

"And we're just going to give up now that we have a single way in? Don't get me wrong, I'm all up for going back to the ant hill and sleeping in an actual fucking bed rather than a sleeping bag. But there is still something to be said for staying and doing our damn job." Logan pointed out, his voice restrained, but with a hard edge to it.

"We've done everything that we have needed to do here. We've confirmed that the prisoner's information is accurate, and we've found a weak point in the defences. We don't have time to stick around, for every second we spend here we run the risk of being found out." You explained calmly as you turned to fully face your squad mate, who just shook his head at you.

"It took us days to get out here, and they build up their offensive force every day. We don't have time to come back here again before the final assault on this base. So maybe we should take more than a parting glance at it?" Logan suggested, gaining a raised eyebrow from you.

I'll change. Let's go talk to Grandma
>>
"And do you think that there is another way in? Any fortress that large would have it's own internal water supply, so we can't get in via their water intake. And there's no point in going in right now as the only thing would stand to gain would be a basic time-table for the supply trains. Grandma's cell will probably already know, and if we're going to have any chance of buying time to slow down this build up then we'll have to get assistance from her as soon as possible." You explained to Logan, gesturing back to the fortress behind you. The massive camp was obviously inspired by the medieval castles of europe. So it was only logical that they would have an internal water source. After all, the first things that a rebel cell would do would be to poision their water supply if it came from an extenal source.

"Even so, there is no way that they can support such a large base without taking water from a nearby natural source. So they have to be getting it from somewhere!" Logan insisted, but you were done listening to him. You would have more than enough time to argue on the road.

"And Grandma's cell will probably know. So come on, the sooner we get to her cell, the sooner we can get started with our mission." You stated ambiguously, while you actual mission was to find out why people were going missing, stopping this massive purge was certainly something that needed to be done.

Logan simply huffed in disapproval as your squad moved to leave. After a good half an hour of walking, you came back across the road. Once again, you stopped to listen for the unatural sound of engines and boots. Strangely however, it wasn't there.

>Just cross the damn road, you can't wait to see if another patrol comes along.

>Just cross the damn road, you can't wait to see if another patrol comes along.
It does make perfect sense to stop and listen. I just don't mind having an excuse to break something.
>>
With no signs of activity, and no sounds of nearby activity, you decided to instead just cross the road quickly. While you weren't the type of person to do things so brazen, you just wanted to get out of this place as soon as possible. Logan was right after all, the longer you spent around here, the more likely you were to be found out. Not to mention the uncomfortable feeling that acompanied you being in such a place. You didn't know how to explain it. It was a deeply uncomfortable feeling that was similar, yet different to, the scent of gas. It was as if something polluted the very air around the base.

You were pulled from your musing as a hand grabbed you and dragged you back into the treeline. "Shit, contact left. Fifty meters!"

You quickly shook Logan's hand off your shoulder and looked in the direction that Logan had warned you. And to your suprise, you found yourself looking at a Japanese patrol, hidden in the treeline roughly where you had approached the base from. You quickly pulled back deeper into the treeline to avoid the gaze of the waiting patrol.

"What the hell are they doing our there? Did they spot our tracks?" You asked as you made to lead your squad away. Your soldiers following you as you kept low to the ground and darted between the trees.

"Probably, and they might have sent people into the treeline to flush us out." Logan confirmed your suspicions as your squad darted over the train tracks, and into the treeline beyond. "How didn't you see them? They were right there!"

"I was looking the other way." You lied as your squad continued on, eventually running a good few hundred meters before crossing the road and breaking off into the dense jungle. All of you keeping a keener eye on your surroundings now that your enemy knew that you were in the area.

Eventually however, as the sun came up, you slowed down and begant to move at a more conservative pace, swapping a light jog for a more sustainable trek as you made your way in the direction of the area where Grandma's cell. was based. This trek took another few days, with your squad taking refuge in the shadow of one of the local hills, before shadowing one of the main roads past Pingxiang to your next resting point, in one of the caves on a nearby mountain. Your squad fell into the same routine as when you had first made your trip up from the beaches where you had landed. With moral generally being decent as you all talked and joked amongst yourselves. Unfortunately however, you had to put up with the canned rations that was standard to field teams in the US military. Something that both the elite of the OSS and the worst of the infantry had to suffer as one.

C rations. In spite of Kyouko's culinary genius, and ability to make a good meal out of anything, they still tasted like ground arse-hole.

You weren't sure what kind of incompetence had lead to rations that tasted so bad. All three of you had your ideas. Kyouko assumed that it was because the rations were meant to provide nutrition first and taste second. You thought that as a cost-cutting measure, the worst cuts of meat were used. Or other things not meant for human consumption. Logan however thought that the designer in charge of first making the C ration had found out that his wife was having an affair with an infantry man, and decided to fuck over everybody as revenge.

To be honest, you could see all three options being as likely as each other.

However, on your 3rd day on the road, you came across something odd. Your route took you along a tributary that eventually lead to the Ganijang river. This tributary eventually passed a village, from which you expected to hear the sounds of playing children, and of their mothers telling them to calm down and to stop annoying other people. And that, in and of itself was the problem.

There was no sound coming from the village. sure, you couldn't see the village from your route along the riverbank. But you at least expected to hear the sound of life. Yet you heard nothing but the crunching of your feet along the river bank and the rushing of water.

"Hold up." You ordered as you came to ha hault, listening out to make sure that you weren't just missing something.

"What's the problem Burke?" Logan asked as he walked up behind you. A Lucky Strike cigarette hanging out of his mouth.

"There is a village over there." You stated, gesturing over the hill. "But I don't hear anything."

"So?" Logan asked as he took a drag from the cigarette.

"There should be noise coming from there. Children playing, people yelling, things like that. But I hear nothing." You stated, as you started to make towards line of stepping stones that roughly bridged the small river. "Come on, we're investigating."

Logan gave an exasperated huff as you unslung your monitor and began to skip across the stones. You managed to make it across the river before you had finished taking the weapon back into your hands, and you carefully began to lead your squad up the steep embankment towards the village. You waited at the foot of the embankment for your squad to catch up, before climbing up and towards the village. Fortunately, it hadn't rained since you had left the supply base behind. And so the ground was dry beneath you. You quickly made your way to the top of the embankment and found yourselves looking down upon the village.

This village was easily made up of at least 50 houses. Though considering how the Chinese made their houses, it could instead have just been made up of less, larger houses. With two roofs instead of one. A small aqueduct between the embankment and the village served as how the village gained their water, and it seemed to trail back into the river that you had just came from. On the opposite side of the village, there was a road the stretched both east and west, with smaller roads snaking into the village.

And just as you had expected, it was completely silent. Nothing moved as you looked down upon it.

"That's one big village..." Kyouko pointed out as she crested the embankment behind you. "We won't be able to just fan out and search that by ourselves."

"Should we pick a side to work from?" You asked your companion as Logan came up behind the both of you. Kyouko simply nodded as she looked down towards the town.

"We'll search from East to West. Keep your eyes peeled, we don't know what might be waiting for us. Get your gas masks and helmets on." You ordered, before putting your monitor rifle down and retrieving your gas mask and helmet. While you weren't a fan of wearing a gas mask, you didn't want to walk into village that has been contaminated by some kind of chemical gas.

"Do you think that we'll them?" Logan asked as he detached his shotgun from his backpack, and re-attached his monitor in it's place. His gas-mask and it's filter resting inside his up-turned helmet.

"The prisoner said that there is a chemical weapons team in the area. So I would rather wear it and not need it, than to need it and not have it." You explained simply, before putting your gas mask on, tightening the straps securing it you your face. The mask fitting well and forming an air-tight seal.

"And let's be honest, what else could route the population of an entire village?" Kyouko pointed out, before putting her gas mask on. Pinning her firey-red hair beneath the straps of the mask.

Logan simply shrugged in response as he sluggishly put his gas mask on. You knew that he didn't like gas masks as they restricted breathing. But in a rush he could put the bloody thing on in a flash.

As soon as all 3 of you had put your gas masks and helmets on, you lead your squad down the embankment with your weapons raised and ready. You kept your rifle to your shoulder as you scanned the open windows and alleyways. However, you saw no movement as you approached. Your automatic rifle set to automatic as you reached the first house.

"Logan, take point." You ordered as your squad stacked up behind you.

"Wouldn't it be better for either of us to take point? Logan doesn't have magic." Kyouko pointed out, her voice slightly muted by her gas mask. Her suggestion earned her a muted chuckel from Logan.

"Don't worry about me. I don't need some fancy magic to take point. All I need is this big bitch." Logan boasted, patting his shotgun on it's side in emphasis.

"Logan, you take point. I'll go second and Kyouko will take up the rear. We'll just take a walk through the village and not enter any of the houses." You ordered, before gesturing for your squad to move up. Logan quickly pushed up and entered the village with his shotgun raised to his shoulder, followed in by you and then Kyouko.

Your squad slowly advanced through the village's winding streets, your weapons raised and your eyes darting between every window, doorway and gap between the houses. The stone and wood walled houses were packed loosely together, just enough to give some semblance of urban living while still leaving a whole host of alley ways. There was no noise to be heard, other than the sound of your footsteps and your laboured breathing. One of the negative points about a gas mask was that it restricted your breathing, and generally made movement more laborious due to practically strangling you. You looked into one of the open doorways as you passed it, but saw nobody inside. There was no sound, no movement, nothing to suggest that anybody was still here.

It was as if everybody had just gotten up and left. Leaving behind everything.

As Logan, and the rest of your squad, came to the end of this road, Logan came to a stop by a house at the bend in the road. You and Kyouko stacked up behind him and waited for him to poke his head around the house that you were taking cover behind. Logan peeked around the corner, before then looking back to you.

"Nothing further up. It looks like the village is spread out across three roads, including the main road that we saw from the embankment. Though from the looks of it, it all seems empty." Logan reported quietly, his voice uneasy.

"And by empty, you mean that there is absolutely nobody here?" Kyouko asked rhetorically from behind you.

"Yes. We can either continue looking through the streets or we can double-back and search the houses." Logan explained, giving you your options.

"We'll check the houses. We might as well do this all in one sweep." You ordered, before nodding to Logan. Who lead your squad towards one of the houses at the end of the street. He waited until you both were behind him, before then opening the door and entering with his weapon raised.

The insides of the building was small and cramped, with thick walls and furniture to limit the available space inside the house. But aside from that it was completely intact. All of the beds looked as if they had just been slept in. There was still some unclean dishes awaiting cleaning, and some cabinets that were still closed and locked. However, there was still nobody inside. This only made you feel even more uncomfortable as it looked as if everybody had just left in the middle of dinner.

"Clear. Let's move on." Logan stated, before leading you out of the house and into the next one along. And on and on until you reached the end of the street.

In all 20 houses, you found nothing. No signs of present life. The houses still contained all of their internal fieriness, furniture, food and civilian clothes. And all of the fire-pits and ovens were cold. And there was nobody to be found. You were musing as to what could cause this kind of mass disappearance, when Logan hissed a warning.

"Get down!" Logan quietly ordered, prompting you to duck down and raise your rifle towards the door.

"What's the problem?" Kyouko asked from the bedrooms in the back of the house.

"There's a Japanese squad. They've just came around the corner leading up to the main road." Logan reported as you crawled over to the doorway and got ready.

"How many are there?" You asked your squad mate as you counted your grenades, and lamented that you only had brought 3 grenades.

"Fifteen at east, though there may be more in the rest of the village." Logan explained, before then turning to you from his position in the room next to the entrance. "What should we do? Should we bug out?"

"Fall back, spread out and observe them. We'll get more answers by watching them." You silently ordered, before slowly crawling away from the doorway, slipping deeper into the house.

"Logan, are they wearing gas masks?" You asked, if the Japanese patrol, was wearing gas masks then you could be reasonably sure that the village wasn't contaminated.

"They are. So we should keep ours on." Logan reported as he followed you deeper into the house. The pair of you eventually entering the room where Kyouko had been examining before Logan had allerted the both of you of the Japanese patrol.

"Come on." Kyouko ordered, before she then climbed out of the open window. You followed her out next, landing softly after carefully exiting the building. As Logan followed you out, you wondered about the best way to observe the Japanese squad.

Move out of the village to the treeline and observe them from there.

"I'm going up on one of the roofs. Can you two handle yourselves?" You asked your companions as you un-slung your pack and shoved it behind a loose wooden panel. Stowing your supplies and your rifle to lighten the load.

"Sure, but don't you think that it's a bit much?" Kyouko asked as you looked around to find a way up to the roof.

"They won't be watching the roofs. And if worst comes to worst I can just hack them into giblets." You reminded your comrade, before beginning your accent to the roof of the house. Your luger strapped to your hip as you made your way up. Beneath you, your squad mates scattered as they went off to watch the Japanese squad.

It didn't take you long to reach the roof of the house. And as soon as you climbed up to the roof, you had to lie down and slowly crawl to the apex of the roof in order to not make any noise as you made to spy on the Japanese.

You looked down on the Japanese squad to find them doing much the same thing as your squad. They were searching every house from room to room. The squad was comprised of 15 people, with two in the garbs of officers. the soldiers were heavily armed, with sub machineguns and even a pair of flamethrowers. However, it was neither their exotic weapons or their methods that caught your eye the most.

In the middle of the squad was a single person. They were completely unarmed barring the holstered pistol at their hip. This soldier wore a large medical satchel at his side, and went around every building taking what you assumed were samples. He took samples from the bags of rice in one house, a piece of clothing from another house, what looked like ash from a fireplace and even scraped some wood and stone off the exterior of one of the houses. This false doctor then put the samples into clear glass jars and sealed them with a cork, before then putting them into the satchel on his hip. He also scribbled down notes onto a notepad as he went.

The false-doctor took his samples as he went between the buildings. Before saying something to one of the officers and yelling something to a pair of soldiers. And with that the officer began to walk off with a pair of the soldiers at his flanks.

Watching the the doctor for a few seconds, you shuffled from your current position towards the edge of the roof. You waited for the Japanese troops to look away, before slowly moving into a crouch to jump to the next roof. You looked down again to confirm that nobody was looking, before quickly jumping to the next roof. The meter wide jump was a fairly daunting from a stationary start, but you were just barely able to clear it. You landed on both your hands and feet in order to make as little noise as possible and to reduce the chances of upsetting the roof's tiles. You continued along the roof on your arms and legs, making as little noise as possible. You reached the opposite side of the next roof, and mimicked the same jump you had made before in order to traverse to the 3rd roof. Every time you kept a look out for the doctor and his guards, only jumping to the next roof when you were sure that nobody was looking.

Upon jumping to the roof of the 4th house, you heard the tell-tale hiss-woosh of a flamethrower firing. You slowly scaled up to the apex of the roof, and looked over towards where the rest of the Japanese squad was standing.

The two flamethrower armed soldiers were making themselves busy by burning down a pair of houses. The both of them firing their weapons into the open windows and doors of their target house. As the flame began to catch inside the first house, they turned their attention to the house that you and the rest of your squad had fled from. As smoke began to rise from other houses around the village, you realised what they were doing.

The Japanese were destroying the evidence of whatever had been done here.

Unfortunately, you had more pressing matters to attend to. Specifically being that they were in the middle of burning down the house that hid your stowed equipment. You needed to gather your equipment before it was all burned to cinders, but if you did then you might loose your trail on the Japanese doctor. Though with fires now raging in other parts of the town, it was obvious that there was not just a single squad here. Maybe you were biting off more than you could chew?

>Drop down and grab your supplies, then try and follow the doctor from the ground.
>Drop down and grab your supplies, then attack the Japanese before they can finish their little clean up.
>Drop down and grab your supplies, then leave. You don't want to fight against these odds.
>Ignore your supplies and keep following the doctor from the rooftops.

Noticing that there seemed to be more Japanese soldiers here than you had first assumed, you decided that it was the best time to leave. You had at least some things to work off given what you had witnessed, and hopefully you could piece together a bigger picture from what your comrades had found. As such, you carefully climbed down the back of the building you were currently on, and quickly made your way back towards the first house, checking down the alley ways between the houses as you went. You quickly arrived at the burning house and knelt down next to the panel that you had stashed your gear, and quickly yanked your backpack out from the foundations of the burning house. The heat from the veritable funeral pyre uncomfortably warming your skin as you slung the backpack over your shoulder. And as soon as you picked up your rifle, you ran back to the the house that you had climbed down from. Giving you some time to secure your equipment, and think up how best to find your squad mates. You had a few options on how to find your squad mates.

Firstly, you could simply search the different sides of the village in search of your squad mates. While it was the easy option, you would have to be quick to search for your squad mates before the village was burned to cinders. And you could perform some last-minute reconissance.

Secondly, you could simply stay where and wait for your squad mates to return to where your squad had fractured. While this was very easy for you, all it did was push the problem onto your squad mates. And if one of them encountered any kind of issue, such as being stuck under debris or being ambushed by the Japanese, then they would be shit out of luck unless they started shooting. But that as that would tell you where they were, it would also give up their location to the Japanese. And if the Japanese managed to knock them out silently, then they would be able to take them away with them without any of you noticing.

Finally, you could just make some noise. By going in guns blazing and attacking the Japanese. If you started shooting, then your squad mates would also start shooting. And all of you would start to reap a bloody toll on the Japanese. But if that happened then while you and Kyouko would be perfectly fine, and would definitely be able to reap a bloody toll. Logan on the other hand would be at serious risk. He didn't have any kind of magic, not magic weapon, no shields and no way to defend himself from a gout of infantry killing flame or a fusillade of automatic fire. And if that doctor was close to his vehicles, then he could escape. Along with anyone who saw you or Kyouko using your magic. If you went loud, then you would have to kill or capture everybody. And considering what you had seen earlier, your squad was significantly outnumbered.

Then again... it was not as if you had any problems with being outnumbered before. The Märchenland debacle had proven that fairly neatly.

Deciding to start searching in the local area first, you continued down parallel to the street, deciding to investigate if any of your squad mates had gone down that way. You moved as briskly as you could, slowing only to check every alley way with relative caution. Your monitor rifle shouldered and ready to fire as you moved. The heat from the growing funeral pyre uncomfortably warming your back.

Thankfully, you didn't have to look too far to find one of your squad mates. As soon as you came to the end of this "side" of the village, you turned around the last building, and noticed Logan peeking around the last building. You carefully made your way towards him, peeking down alley ways to make sure that was nobody was looking before quickly moving between the houses until you arrived behind your squad mate.

"Well that was quick Kyouko. Did you see Eugen on the way over?" Logan asked without turning, and not noticing who was behind him.

"Wrong person. What have you found?" You asked your squad mate, startling him slightly as he found out that you were behind him. he simply turned his head to face you, and cocked his head around the corner.

"Found the Japanese vehicles, though they aren't your standard type." Logan stated as he moved back from the corner of the building. Thus allowing you to peek around and glance at the vehicles.

The convoy of vehicles was parked in the middle of the road, with nobody protecting them. At the front and back of the convoy were a pair of armoured cars, the turrets mounted on the rear of the vehicles with their hatches battened down. Between the armoured cars however, were the most interesting part of the convoy.

"Ambulances. Isn't it illegal to disguise military units as medical teams?" You asked Logan, before hiding back behind the house. Logan simply shrugged at your question.

"Hell if I know. Though I'm pretty sure that medical teams aren't meant to be armed with flamethrowers." Logan replied sarcastically, you were about to reply when the sound of engines cut you off.

"Sounds like they're leaving." Logan pointed out the obvious as you turned to look down the way you had came. And thankfully, you saw Kyouko running up towards you.

"Nice for you to finally join us." You greeted your comrade as the vehicles began to move off. You quickly lent out from behind the house, and watched as the convoy began to drive off down the road.

"How ironic. Though what was all that about?" Kyouko huffed between panted breaths, her head darting between looking at you or Logan.

"As it turns out, the German's aren't the only one with secret units." Logan explained simply as he began to walk off. The rest of your squad falling in behind him as you left the burning village behind you.

I'm going to call the thread here guys. Before I go now, I would like to know of ya'll would be interested in a Halloween-themed thread. While it would be a nice change, we're also 2 for 2 on one-shots turning into their own stories. Would ya'll be interested in that or would you prefer just a standard WWFTT thread? If so, then you can suggest themes or whatever you want the thread to play.

Anyways, if you have any questions then feel free to ask them. If not, then I'll see ya'll next time!
>>
>>2007108
I don't think a one off would work too well, but perhaps a WWFTT thread spooky thread could work. Maybe the Japs unleashed a new bio weapon, or some monster they created.

Either way, great thread Thunderhead. See you next time
>>
>>2007108
I'm okay with a non-Halloween-specific thread.
>>
>>2007120
Maybe we can play as some other German solider trapped in a spooky facility or Chinese civilian trying to survive some unleashed horrors as a side story.
>>
>>2008671
this could be cool. and then we wake up and it was all some dream Eugen was having, tying it up nicely
