You nod summarily as the last of the striders in the area crashes to the ground beside you. Aelriss’s suggestion to remain on the stone platforms above seemed like a controversial one at first, but turned out to work reasonably to your benefit given the prevalence of these creatures in the area – reclaiming their territory from the exiles, no doubt – and the fact that you don’t have a vested interest in falling into molten rock anyway. Not even you could survive that one, chances are.

The distribution of loot is an affair to be handled, which you’ll take care of pretty quickly according to your individual needs – since it’s mostly just materials and the like – when all is said and done; as of now, you’re looking out over the lowermost caverns in the chamber while Aelriss, Nel, and Tatsumaki collect themselves on the outcropping behind you.

I actually need to step out a bit - but it'll allot time for people to actually figure out I'm here. If we wanted to decide the permanent home of the old notepad, that'd be an excellent idea - I know the doc is here, but I'm not sure what is and isn't out of date:

> Donnel and Smith are offline.

The four of you farmed a pretty significant heap of materials; there is almost no competition at any of the hunting grounds you’ve seen since the raid. You’re left with two rare chitin plates, since a shield will probably be highly useful when it comes to a single item, and Nel has assured you they’ll be useful to that end; eight molten fibers and a large fire essence to use as you will.

You’re heading upward, retracing your steps to the newly-mined shortcut…

“What do you guys think of the idea of – like, an organization to fight the Observers?” You ask.

“The whats?” Aelriss asks, looking over quizzically.

“The shadow monsters that are popping out all over the place? The ones that corrupted the Earthsea, and the old world?” You tilt your head when you look back at her. “Have you not heard the voices?”

“…Ashe, you are legit scaring me.” Nel says.

“They’re a big deal!” You groan. “Freya and I fought one down at the Calamity Rift – it had tons of health, said all sorts of weird stuff, cursed all my gear…”

“Don’t get me wrong, Ashe. It sounds worthwhile. I just have no idea what you’re talking about.” Aelriss says.

Tatsumaki nods. They really haven’t encountered a single one. "Whatever," You say, "I'll explain better later, alright?"

“Where are you heading?” Ael continues, folding her arms as you split off the path.

“Got business up in the city. We’ll catch up, yeah?” You ask.

“Yep.” Aelriss nods. “Tats and I are gonna have all the fun. C’mon, girl…”

The city is as you remember; you were here not long ago, but this time you’re here alone.

You navigate to the guild square and find the opulent barracks waiting for you opposite the fountain. Various players are talking and lingering about – mostly Identified, this time. The Guardians’ hall looks like it might be bigger. It’s probably just in your head, but there’s definitely more flags.

> [[ Crimson Guardians – Guild Hall ]]
> [[ Guild Leader: Liza ]]
> [[ Guild Officers: Kainzo, Mendicant, Florica ]]
> [[ “ Glory Is Forever ” ]]

There isn’t a legionnaire waiting for you at the door this time; rather, you just seem to have been given authentication to enter. You cross the threshold into the strangely-comforting space. There’s a loud conversation in the other room, and you invite yourself in, doing your best to look like you belong here as you meander past the training area.

“There’s nothing more I can say to you on the subject.” Florica says, holding her hefty tome close to her chest. Liza and the officers are seated at a large table beneath a map of Averron on a flat-panel digital display; various machinery decorates the room, looking like a bit of a server farm. “The seal, though unlike artifice in its nature, is secure as can be. It is not permanent, but is doubly redundant.”

“I’ve heard you. I just can’t believe you’re so certain.” Liza responds from the head of the table. “She isn’t Anaximander, but that doesn’t mean she can be trusted.”

“She is not to be underestimated. Her capacity is akin to mine, truly – her ability is spoken of in the depths of the Diabolique.” Florica responds. “Thus, if you do not trust her skills without some arbitrary proof, you’ve no reason to trust mine.”

“That’s completely absurd, and you know it.” Liza rolls her eyes. “Even if she’s truly done us and the rest of the city a favor today – you don’t even know her. Standing up for her is a waste of your energy. Especially when Freakshow continues to invite controversy into Averron.”

“We stand for the players of Averron.” Kainzo says. “Those who’d sabotage us are not included.”

“I’m just surprised we’re still taking trustable information out of a book called the Diabolique.” Mendicant shakes his head and sighs.

Liza laughs. “You mean to tell me your trust has started to waver as well?”

“’Course not, Liza. I’m just like you. I don’t trust anything for no reason.” Mendicant nods. “I trust y’all, since we’re a team. I trust the Alliance leaders, more or less, ‘cause they’re chill – even if Sven’s wife is a little bit of an ass sometimes. I even trust this nerd,” He says, pointing to you as you enter, and punctuating the phrase by pointing to Liza: “Because this nerd says to.”

“Ascheritte.” Liza makes a mocking expression toward Mendicant, which softens promptly as she nods firmly to acknowledge your presence; Kainzo kicks his feet up and turns away, arms folded. “I didn’t hear you enter.”

“You’re talking about Freya?” You ask.

“You were there with her in the Rift.” Liza says, and Florica leans toward you, looking interested. “Do you trust her?”

> “She’s done only good by me.”
> “Not completely – she’s a fire-starter, but she has done us a favor.”

And I forgot our recent exchange with Kjorikos. Fuck.

“How quickly you condemn me to death given the resources you’ve spent to preserve my memory.” He folds his arms, taking a step through the door towards you. “For devoting myself to the past, I was called a heretic. I thought you would learn from me. No; we are kindred, for you, in your practice, belike my mirror image.”

“Do you know a way to bring back the Nameless, then?” You note a hint of urgency in your own voice. “The word ‘einherjar’; does it mean anything to you?”

“All that matters is the price you’re willing to pay.” Kjorikos responds. “Reach the surface, foremost, and you’ll find what you seek. Just bear in mind it’s not the paradise it was in my day.”

“The Identifiers – what are they, really?” You ask. “And the Observers? If you know what I’ve been doing, you know about them too – I fought one with your memory.”

“Consider them a boon from the Celestials. You’re their latest effort, after they disavowed us. I’d tell you not to bother trying to reverse-engineer their technology, but precise instructions are completely wasted upon the likes of you.” At this, he gives a bit of a laugh. “The entities whom have now deemed you personally worthy of destruction – the Observers, as you now know them – are the same ones who once grew powerful enough to subjugate gods. They are the ones who brought destruction to the world, and now watch all that is; condemning the Earthsea to ruin was merely one of their momentary whims. The Celestials are never without their pride – but even now, they find themselves backed against the wall courtesy of these fiends. You’ll soon find we are all on borrowed time.”

Your fingers twitch a bit. A spark of violet lightning runs down your arm.

“We’ll be in touch, Ascheritte.” Kjorikos says. “I see a piece of myself in you. I look forward to seeing what becomes of it.”

I'm gonna start giving my own take on each category. Sorry if I'm being annoying everyone.

Earthsea Lore:

The Observers drove everyone underground and then punished the Earthsea because society as a whole was becoming too powerful. They used the King of the Earthsea as a vessel (similarly to how Cidren seemed to have an Observer or at least one of their Guardians inside of him)

After everyone was driven underground the Earthsea served as a focal point for everyone to meet up and make progress. The Observers got pissed again and then sealed the Earthsea to split all the different cities and slow their progress toward returning to the surface again.

The king went kinda crazy and cast out a shitload of his people, creating the earthsea exiles. Some of those went on to become troglodytes while others became beasts like the araneids. The king’s closest followers (such as Cidren) were empowered by the observers to help keep the humans entombed beneath the surface.

Kjorikos once lived in the Earthsea but managed to escape on his own terms. He was never involved with the Observers like other precursors are.
>>
>>1979284
What even is the Earthsea meant to be?
>>
>>1979297
>Managing to twist your vision downward, you navigate toward an older, more primitive place: a city, or an enormous castle grounds, shaped from stone, built about bridges that cross a massive subterranean bed of water. All paths lead to the center, such that from directly above, it resembles the rune you’ve seen on the walls of the magma chamber and on the exile’s brand.
I think it's a massive city built over an aquifer.

“Not completely,” You respond. Everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt, you think, but Freya doesn’t at all seem like the type that has no agenda of her own. “I know she’s done us all a favor when it comes to the Exiles – but that’s not to say she’s not up to something, or maybe she’s not. I’m keeping an eye on her, anyway.”

The conversation stalls for an instant as Liza and Florica look between one another, as if they each expected a different answer.

“What’s this Diabolique you’re talking about?” You ask. Your eye catches Florica, who taps on the back of her book – a Celestial Artifact, you know – with a manicured, crimson-painted fingernail to indicate it to you. You cock an eyebrow as you look over it, almost losing yourself in the twisted, ancient symbols on the cover. It resembles the old script; you know not what it means, but feel instinctively that what it represents is offensive to your nature. “The Arcana,” You recall. “Diabolique? Your spellbook.”

“It contains the roots of this world.” Florica says. “Arts different in their nature from those of any artificer.”

“You can read that?” You ask.

“Somewhat.” Florica responds. “I am learning.”

“Right, right.” Liza shakes her head to clear her thoughts. “What was it you wanted to talk about, Ashe?”

“The Observatory, remember? I’ve been waiting to hear from the other proprietors or their organizations about investing.” You say. “I put a couple Gems in myself, but like I said, I can’t be the only one.”

“Well, we arranged a deal quite some time ago – our funds have been organized, as have those of the Writ Keepers, and we’re waiting now for the Disposable Heroes to come through with their contribution. When I pondered the possibilities, I thought it best to accord the requisite amount to simultaneously construct a pair of Advent Gates for faster travel; then, I told Kainzo – being the proprietor – to defer to you,” Liza says. “Assuming that your experience of Averron would inform the most beneficial overall decision as to how the Gems should be spent. This was a while ago, but apparently you weren’t contacted?” She looks to Kainzo.

Kainzo looks dismissively at a holographic projection from his Identifier – then over it, glancing cynically at you. “Forgive me, Liza. I did so via message; perhaps I spelled his name incorrectly.”

Liza looks askance at the officer before turning back to you. “Well, get in contact. Ascheritte, does this sound reasonable?"

> “Sounds perfect.”
> “We should wait until we can construct a gate in a useful location deeper underground.”
> “The Observatory needs defenses foremost.”
> “We need a way to take in more money.”
> “We need new NPCs and facilities instead.”
>>

> “We should wait until we can construct a gate in a useful location deeper underground.”
I'd like to organize an expedition to Telthiss' Claw with you guys. It'd be a good stronghold to keep if we plan to attack the Earthsea.
>>
>>1979437
It's always seemed easy enough to get to the Observatory from Averron City. Does it take a long time or what?
>>
I'm torn. On the one hand a teleport gate isn't so necessary when the place is this close and investing in other things could be more fun.

On the other, being able to teleport between the two makes it far more feasible for the guilds to maintain both locations and defend them and so on.
>>
>>1979437
>Sounds like an idea, unless anyone else has another key area on hand that might have an altar we could expand into.
>>
>>1979450
>It'd be a good stronghold to keep if we plan to attack the Earthsea.
We have literally no chance at that if the Exiles nearly tabled us.
>>
>>1979437
> “The Observatory needs defenses foremost.”
Yeah an advent gate would be more useful to bypass the perilous trek to Telthiss. But right now the city has a guard and the Observatory has nothing so we should change that.
>>
>>1979497
We took a lot of casualties but we killed a lot of enemies. And those that remain are all stronger for it. The Earthsea seems like the best place to claim if we want to meet the other communities in order to make real progress toward reaching the surface.
>>
>>1979511
We were patently going to get overwhelmed without Freya's sealing it. Assuming the exile swarm was a fraction of the actual population of Earthsea and they are amongst the weakest of the remnants, we are nowhere near to taking it.

“It’s not a bad idea – makes it easier for the Alliance to protect and edify both locations simultaneously.” You respond, pondering.

“Right.” Liza says. “But?”

“I’m not sure. It’s probably more complicated than that. It’d be good to get some defenses down there, and we’ll need another Advent Gate even closer to the lowest branch if we’re ever going to be able to mount a reasonable journey toward the Earthsea Promenade.” You fold your arms.

Liza looks like she’s thinking, then nods. “Reasonable assessment. I don’t hold defense at the highest priority along this avenue – if travel is easier, and assuming we can keep the territory under control, we can do our best to defend it ourselves or simply devote the Guard to it as well.”

“Perhaps in case of an emergency, Liza?” Florica asks.

“Perhaps.” Liza nods. “Bear in mind we still have time to decide, or at least as long as it takes for the Disposable Heroes to chime in with their part. That’s all, Ashe – I’ll see to it that Kainzo doesn’t miss you a second time. Apologies for preferring to meet in person.”

“One thing – the merger. You’re still pushing for it, I take it?” You ask.

“Of course.” Liza nods to you. “The prospect is growing better by the minute. You should meet some of our new recruits.”

“Okay, good – but why?” You ask. “The other Alliance guilds are going to lose people, and the class divide in the city is going to get worse.”

Liza shakes her head, looking dismissively at you.

“Ascheritte, you know well the disadvantages of our current arrangement. Three disparate guilds with different goals and organizational standards? This isn’t a matter of class or subjugation; it’s an imperative to unite the capable – and those who wish to fight among them, notwithstanding my own desire to see us organize the most optimal fighting force possible – beneath a banner that stands for Averron as a whole.” She says. “The others may stand aside if they wish, but the Underground is actively attempting to destroy us. The city’s population has decreased dramatically. Without a unified force, we face extinction.”

You hesitate to respond, and Liza looks curiously at your expression. “Is it about Ayla?” She asks. “You’ve never had anything to worry about from me, Ascheritte – you should know better. I’ve been off her case since our last meeting; I’ve even made an offer to make amends, to which she neglected to respond. If she wishes now to completely derelict her position, it’s none of my business except where it pertains to our survival as a whole, but it is rather unlike her to ignore her responsibilities.”

It's not just her, although I am worried about her acting erratic. I'm chalking it up to stress and lack of sleep because she's afraid of missing something.
The crimson guardians are the elite guild. You're taking the best players from the other guilds with the best gear and best resources. Yes you're doing it for all the right reasons but you're leaving people out in the cold. Combined with a lot of people getting set back to square one and your reputation lots of people who don't know you are going to see it as a power move. This game breeds inequality and having one ruler with her guild above everyone else, intentional or not is going to breed hate. It's mitigated now because you're not the only game in town. Whether intentional or not, you're setting yourself up to be another Hecatel.
>>
>>1979836
The alliance is still necessary man. We just had a huge blow to our city's collective strength and we might not be able to measure up to the other cities without unification.
>>
>>1979907
if we're treating other cities like enemies we are doing something wrong. Regardless if she really wanted to merger she'd be using DH as the base, not CG.
>>
>>1979923
No single guild is the base. It's gonna be ruled by a council of people from each original guild. I'm not saying it doesn't have it's drawbacks but it's not gonna be a hostile take over with Liza as supreme leader

>I'm not saying it doesn't have it's drawbacks but it's not gonna be a hostile take over with Liza as supreme leader.
But literally every member of freakshow, the vast majority of nameless, and every from the now defunct DH and WK who didn't get the invite will see it that way.
>>
>>1979953
Everyone from those guilds is invited though. The point of the merger is strength through unity and numbers
>>

Are you sure about that? Moreover does everyone else know that? The CGs have had a massive rep loss thank to Liza's actions with Anaximander making them seem either inept, uncaring or just plain too good to help.

“It’s not just her – I mean – this plan just leaves a lot of people out, even if you’ve really laxed your requirements. There are plenty who’ve been set back to square one, I know…”

“Non-issue.” Mendicant says, relaxing back with what sounds like a sigh of resignation. “Within a reasonable deree, anyway. You know when you die, if you keep on going as a Nameless, you’re not guaranteed to spawn back in Averron City, right? Our population is, well.” He gives a whistle as he points dramatically downward with his thumb. “It’s probably stable for now, maybe even going back up, but have you wondered why it’s so quiet lately? Statistically, more cities are ‘not Averron’ than are ‘Averron’, so.~”

You nod, giving a sigh yourself. It makes sense, though...

“I’m just concerned. A guild has to have a leader, and having one guild with one leader standing out above the rest? It’s the kind of thing that breeds a conflict whether or not you want it to be about that.” You respond. “I’m worried you’re setting yourself up to be another Hecatel.”

“That’s a hot take.” Mendicant laughs.

Liza frowns, looking away with a pensive expression. “Maybe we need another Hecatel.”

That’s a hot take.” Mendicant says, looking incredulously over.

“I’m serious.” The redheaded girl responds. “We’ve seen their schematics. Their weapons, their technology – everything they have outstrips us by an order of magnitude. Hecatel is some – absolute overlord monarch with a city named after her. I don’t want that for us. I don’t want to be that. But they must be doing something right, if…”

“You’re not thinking clearly.” Mendicant gives her a dismissive wave. “Rationalize?”

“I know.” Liza nods, looking affirmatively over at the officer. “More likely than their leadership is that they know something we don’t, or have something we don’t that’s vastly accelerated their development. But it’s an interesting thought, isn’t it, to consider what she must be capable of – we officers of the Alliance are only just holding on to what we have in Averron, and she’s singlehandedly kept an entire civilization under her thumb.”

“As a tyrant.” Florica muses, a mischievous smile creeping across her face. “Or a god.”

Liza scoffs, then shakes her head. “There’s been enough fighting within the walls already for us all to know that this city would never bend to the will of a tyrant, regardless of how many of us remain. So perish the thought.”

“Averron City. Rebellion HQ.” Mendicant grins. “Population: us.”

The conversation stalls, and you find yourself taking a seat at the table – concerned with matters of the Alliance, but also of other things. “What do you guys think about the Observers?”

“Were you extended an invitation to sit down?” Kainzo asks.

“Yes.” Liza responds, before looking back your way. “You’re full of big questions, aren’t you, Ascheritte?”

“Well, Mom always said I have an inquisitive mind.” You groan, rolling your eyes. “You know anything, or what? I can’t get the things off my back and no one else in the entire world seems to be aware they exist.”

Liza looks Florica’s way as if awaiting her answer.

“We don’t know much.” The witch nods. “I’ve been our main source of interest along those lines, and I can only research so quickly. Beyond the presence of those who possess their ‘gifts’, I can’t say much beyond the fact that they’re hard to hide from, good at going undiscovered, and don’t seem to have weaknesses.”

“Great.” You respond. “No tricks?”

“If you think about it, the Celestials supposedly had unlimited power, and the Observers conquered them.” Florica says, still smiling. “Bodes well for us, doesn’t it? Now, they merely watch – and they target people, as if they are playing a game of their own with us. Based on what, I can’t say for sure.”

“How come more info about these guys hasn’t cropped up yet? Everyone in the world playing Broken Sky Online; you’d think if there’s nothing on the in-game boards, someone would have let something slip on the Internet proper by now?” Mendicant asks, folding his arms.

“They don’t have names.” You respond. “They break the whole user interface and scramble communications.”

“They cover their tracks.” Florica says. “It’s hard to tell when someone reports an Observer sighting versus another anomaly; the term Observer isn’t even highly popular in the public lexicon. What’s more is that message board posts go missing, often, where such things are concerned. It’s strange – even discussion outside the game ends up conveniently deleted sometimes. People have suggested that there’s a very major stance against spoilers given the nature of the game, but…”

“It’s a ridiculous thought.” Liza says. “But at this point, it would hardly surprise me.”

“Florica, while I’m around – do you think you can craft me something else?” You ask.

“Depends.” Florica says. “Did my sword serve you well?”

“Most dependable I’ve ever used.” You nod. “’Till the Observers got hold of it, anyway.”

“I’m glad you put it to a purpose.” Florica nods. “I could spare a few moments, assuming all’s said here?”

“You’re dismissed. I’d like to get back into the field myself.” Liza says. Kainzo leaves without a word, though he gives Liza a respectful nod and doesn’t look at you; Mendicant, meanwhile, pats you on the shoulder on his way out. “I’ll be in touch, Ascheritte.” She continues, as she exits.

“What did you need?” Florica asks. The two of you are alone in this part of the hall for the moment.

“…need to replace these plain leather boots I got stuck with after my last fight.” You produce the molten fibers, such that she can take a look. They’re thick and warm, bundled ‘round myriad squamous scraps of a leathern material that bends readily despite its hardness. “I also have a fire essence – perhaps you could imbue a ring with it, for fire protection?”

“Do you have a ring, then?” Florica asks.

You shake your head.

“That might be a good thing to accrue before asking me for one, then. You’ll need one of silver, or gold – and both of such things are so, so rare, it seems.” She says, then looks down at your boots with a bit of a frown. “If you’d part with the fire essence, though, perhaps I could replace those…”

Parting with these materials would leave you with your tempered plates and aethersteel - hopefully, enough to create a fireproof shield elsewhere.

You feel as if you are watching Florica assemble a puzzle. She has tools and mundane materials at her disposal to fill in the empty space of a three-dimensional schematic that must be memorized. It takes several minutes, and halfway through feels as if she departs completely from the intended solution to imbue the product with – in addition to the essence of fire, which spills warm embers as she cradles it carefully between her fingertips – her very inspirational spark.

> * Molten Step [[ Granted by: handcrafted lavastrider boots ]] : Item can’t receive durability damage from fire. Increase standing jump height. With a short cooldown, walk briefly on and jump from lava surfaces without harm.

“I might well have discovered something new.” Florica says. “I do so cherish the chance to experiment.”

“Am I ever going to owe you for all of this?” You ask.

“I trust you’ll pay me back eventually.” The witch nods, smiling. “Your item, as promised and without error. If that’s all, I’ll be off.”

You equip the item. The boots are warm to the touch, edges of the scale-bound material glowing orange as the embers of a dying fire.

“Until so long.” Florica says. She stands, and meanders off into the darkness of the hall opposite you as you exit. The other officers are nowhere to be seen.

At the bottom of the staircase down the hall, you cross the threshold into a workshop with a floor of blue tiles in a perfect grid illuminated from beneath. Ayla is lying on her back in the middle of the floor like she’s making a snow angel; she wears bracers and anklets of an unknown material with lines of light down their sides, reminiscent of the Unique Identifiers themselves. A drill half her size is spinning on a motorized torque-ring nearby, and there’s the cannibalized parts of half-built explosive devices lying all over the place. Every table and sitting space, and most of the walls, are covered in notes that look like someone’s been trying to solve upper-level calculus problems using ancient script in place of numbers; similar pages are strewn about the floor.

I'd rather take her mind off of everything with lore than pester her about how she's doing. Tell her about our weird experiences with Observers including the login glitch where we fought it's guardian. And show her last argument and tell her about our suspicions concerning the nobility skill it offers and how Hecatel might be exploiting something similar to see if she knows anything about it.

Also I feel like if anybody would be understanding about our recent visit from Kjorikos it would be her. We should explain our artifact to her as well.

“It said I was in the overworld – there were no location names, and I had no communications. Everything was surrounded by acidic fog, and this thing I assume was an Observer – this man, all in black, with a white fire inside of him – sent his pet, which was as big as a building by the way, to attack me.” You respond. “I had to fight it. And there was another, in the Rift—but we knew that, right? The guardians of the Earthsea were given power by the Observers?”

“…You too, then.” Her fingernails dig into your cloak, but her grip lets up after a moment or so, expression softening. “They made you fight one of those things on your own.”

Eh. You had it under control.

“Yeah. Do you know about this?” You ask. “Why haven’t you told anyone?”

“It happened to me.” Ayla says. “Twice.”

She falls to the ground and starts to draw in charcoal on the reverse side of a stray parchment page. It looks as if she’s scribbling, at first; then the first image that takes form appears to be full of holes. Plantigrade legs terminating in savage claws of noxious fog are recreated from memory. A spot untouched by charcoal is as a white light that spills from its inner core.

“You had to fight this?” You ask, watching the creature take form before you.

Ayla shakes her head. “I couldn’t. I didn’t have a weapon – I had nothing.”

“So how did you survive?” You ask.

“It was a labyrinth.” She says, looking wide-eyed at you for a moment before she goes back to her drawing. “And I had to do—like, crypto, sort of. Like a puzzle. The first one was easy, once I figured out what was going on. The second one, I don’t even know how I managed to—If it happens again I’m not going to make it.”

Imagined in your third eye, you can almost see the labyrinth presided over by a minotaur of black flame.

Crypto, huh? You probably wouldn’t have survived that. Girl must be damn smart.

“That’s why you’ve been iffy about logging in and out – the time thing, too, of course, but…” You sigh, collecting yourself.

“Your thing.” She says. “Did it speak to you?”

“It said a bunch of nonsense – I’ll try to remember.” You respond. “What about you?”

“Same.” She nods, her voice darkening. “I know you.”

“I know you.” You manage the same, recalling the memory of Exile. You add something extra: “I live in you.” – and she recoils in shock, dropping her charcoal to the floor where it bounces limply off the minotaur’s eye.

There’s a long pause.

“Since before the raid?” You ask. “I bet a few minutes.”

“But however long, it’s taken hours since then, right – in here, a day or more, easily? No way it hasn’t. And you’ve been playing second-for-second since then.” Ayla says. “I’ve been trying to keep track but there’s no good way to estimate – one to one or two, sometimes—sometimes one to twenty, or even sixty, maybe? There’s no way to tell once you’re under. Someone could cut your throat and as long as your gear was still on you wouldn’t even drop connection until your heart stopped. If they didn’t shake you out, or you didn’t log out yourself, then…”

It’s a troublesome thought. You imagine yourself lying in bed. There was a commotion outside, last time – maybe a party in your apartment block? You wonder if it’s resolved, where your roommate is, if it’s the next day or not… this distortion – could it be having a more profound effect on the lot of you?

“Do you think this Observer thing happens to other people?” You ask, for the sake of clearing your head.

“Maybe. There’d be no way to know if they didn’t survive, and I imagine it’s a pretty hard-to-believe story if it just happens to you out of the blue.” Ayla says. She brings a balled hand to her eye for a moment as if wiping away an unseen tear. “Listen—I don’t know how much longer I can expect to put up with this. If I don’t make it, I don’t know what’s going to happen. To the Observatory, or the Alliance…”

You shake your head. “Take it as it comes. You can do this until you’re about to fall apart but there’s no way to be ready. Is there?”

She frowns at all of the full parchment pages. There isn’t.

“Freya has their power too. A gift from them – received as a Celestial Artifact, perhaps, or some other way? – that resonates with their nature.” You add. “This famous bounty hunter called Canderence said it was the power of Lifedrain.”

“It’s not clear where they came from.” Ayla nods. “But they used an art that was unlike any other to drink the power of the gods. By the time they could no longer hide, the Celestials were weak, and they were strong. That must be it.”

“Whatever the case, it seems as if she’s betrayed them.”

“I’d worry about anyone who hopes to survive having drawn the ire of both the Celestials and the Observers.”

Another pause.

She looks like she’s had an epiphany. “It’s using you.”

“What?”

“Like… the Celestial Gems. When you see one, what does it feel like?” Ayla asks, teeth grit. Her legs are shaking and she’s rubbing her shoulders. She looks like an addict who’s afraid of dying.

“Reclaiming something important that you forgot you needed. But – better. Like,” You say. “What I’d imagine it’s like to reunite with a lost loved one.”

“It hits that same frequency for everyone, doesn’t it? But not everyone can possibly know what that feels like—in fact, you just said it’s what you imagine it’s like, didn’t you? Not everyone knows what a crawler carapace feels like – or what a dead body smells like, right, for that matter. But the game is – triggering those emotional reactions in a similar way in everyone that plays. Is it simulating them, somehow? Using the experience of others to enlighten you, like a hive-mind? Or…”

“You said it was using me?” You ask.

“Offloading.” She says. “There’s no technology in the world that could handle all of this – but how… I don’t know. It doesn’t make any sense. But it’s in your head, somehow – your real, thinking head. Or it’s doing a good job of seeming like it. The worst part about any of this is that I haven’t been able to figure out a way to test anything. Hardly matters now, though.”

Borrowed time, like Kjorikos said. You can only weather the storm so long before they tear you down. If they can’t outplay you, they’ll just drag you to wit’s end, and who even says they have to play by the rules anyway?

We should seriously be co-founders of an anti-observer guild. Let's see what Ayla thinks. She's gonna be guildless soon enough. We could also focus on investigating everything wrong with the game that we've discussed here.

Let's make a guild. Find everyone we can who's seen Observers and start to solve what's really going on in this game together.

>>
>>1981097
I really don't think provoking a response from the Observers is a good idea. And if you're intentionally making Observers attack for your own ends that's really fucked up.
>>
>>1981102
The sacred grounds is one of our only leads on finding a way to really fight the Observer. It's either we rope in everyone else, or they get caught in the crossfire uninformed.

Do you really think people will stay away if we say "please don't go to the observatory, we're about to fight some bad shit"?

Also, Ayla's on borrowed time.

“Only as long as you think it doesn’t.” You respond. “There’s definitely no chance if you just let them win.”

“I’m not going to try to lose, but my chances don’t look good.” Ayla says.

“Does anyone else know about all this, Ayla?” You ask.

“You’re the only one as of now.” She responds. “I was just about to put Dorian in charge and appoint new moderators for the message boards, just in case. I’d hate to leave behind a mess.”

You sigh as you look around the room – at Ayla, and at all of the machine parts, the scattered notes, and the drill bathed in soft blue light from the workshop floor. You imagine what lies above, and what lies below, and feel as if you are missing something – and as if you are being watched.

Done for tonight. Thanks for the replies.

Well, the sinister undertones have suddenly started flaring up a lot more. Really hope we don't just have Ayla log out and then never back in again some day.

Might be best to just shelve guild machinations for other people to worry about and focus on powerlevelling a handful of us in a bid to become strong enough to survive logins.

I still like the anti-observer guild idea. We need to get the word out about them and find others willing to focus on fighting them.
>>

We should definitely log out for a bit after the magma zone just to take stock of IRL stuff. Maybe look into the company that made BSO a bit. Also to gauge how crazy we've gotten.

“So, you trying to build an excavator on your own?” You ask, watching the drill slowly whirl away. “I’m surprised you managed to put something this big together without help?”

“Was – and this is still way too small. It’s not going to happen, and there’s no chance of getting a collaboration effort back together with Averron as it is.” Ayla says. “I’ve handed the project over to a tech called Baron. He’s good – just a little hard to talk to. But he’s got all my work, as well as the Hecatelia schematics and reports, which should be enough to get us as far as the Earthsea once we get a task force behind it. It’s up to him and the rest of the Alliance now, basically.”

Another pause.

“So, how do you feel?” You ask. “About starting a group or a guild to fight the Observers? Take on the real threat.”

“You can. I don’t want to get involved if I don’t know I’ll be around – and I don’t know how you’ll be able to get the word out safely.” The technician nods solemnly. “Trust me, if I knew for sure I’d make it, you’d have my support.”

“Yeah,” You respond. “I get you.”

“I’ve got stuff to take care of here until I log – see how bad everything is.” Ayla says, flashing a momentary grin. “It’s been real, Ashe.”

I feel like we should meet with Freya the next time we get a chance. Hopefully she trusts us enough to tell us about her Observer tier artifact and we'll tell her what we know. I still wanna hit that hidden area too though.
>>
>>1983003
>she could try for an artifact
I was wondering whether those bracers and anklets Asch noticed her wearing might be an artifact already. They were described as looking similar to identifiers

Either way, yeah, she could really do with something if she still has nothing. I'd honestly be willing to [s]loan[/s]donate one or two if she didn't have enough on her right now
>>

Personal Observer interactions

There's not a whole lot to go on here, but they say something about some unspecified group returning to this world and it seems like the Observers are preparing this world for their return.
>>
>>1979121
Freya and her link to the Earthsea Seal

We've determined that Freya made some deal with the Observers to obtain her lifedrain skill which obviously pissed off the Celestial. She then proceeded to betray the Observers by closing the seal which implies that she played a role in opening it in the first place. So both the celestials and the observers hate her now which puts her in a really bad spot. My take is that we need to discuss things with her to get the whole picture. I'd even say that inviting her on this next foray into the fire area would be a good idea.
>>
>>1979121
Telthiss

Telthiss is the queen of the araneid hivemind residing in Telthiss' claw. I speculate the the araneids are a monstrous offshoot of those exiled from the Earthsea in the distant past. We were connected to hivemind when we allowed Freya to sap araneid lifeforce to and heal us with it. Part of me suspects that her influence is what caused us to go kinda crazy around Kengo's sabre but I'm not sure exactly why she would want it so desperately.

I was wondering the other day if we could ever ally with her due to our mutual enemy in the Observers.
>>
>>1979121
Ethereal Forgemaster

He seems to be a long-lived being who came before even our predecessors who we call the Precursors, which include the exiled Kjorikos among their ranks. He seems to be able to divine certain information in the pale flame he uses in his forge, including the enigmatic Einherjar which seems to hold the secret to renaming the nameless. Einherjar in our world is the name for the warriors of valhalla who fight, die, and feast over and over again.

That's the last of my obnoxious lore breakdown. I'm sure I'm missing a lot but I hoped to at least remind the players of some of this stuff if not start a productive discussion.

“One last thing, if it’s okay?” You ask. “Relics – have you heard anything about them?”

“They’re like the blessed items of the past: old items with anomalous properties. Probably not as powerful or broad in scope as Celestial Artifacts, but certainly valuable in their own right.” Ayla says. “They’re rare enough that we don’t have a whole lot of information—knowledge is at a premium right now, and people are still hoarding. Probably with justification, too. Anything that gives you a leg up on the next guy makes you a commodity.”

“I might have found one with an effect on it called Nobility. No one seems to know what it does – identifying it yielded an unknown effect.” You respond, then menu over to produce the Last Argument. The broken greatsword’s hilt is warm to the touch; it vibrates in your hand with forgotten glory, learned that its time has come once again. “I was wondering if you had any idea; I think it might be related to Hecatel’s rule – like some kind of mind-altering effect.”

“I guess it’s a possibility. As good as any, since I can’t wrap my head around how her kingdom works.” Ayla nods. “Mind tricks also aren’t well documented in this game – at least, as far as Averron’s collective knowledge goes. That’s kind of troublesome to me. People have gotten fortune teller reports about subterranean creatures with hypnotic or maddening effects, but no concrete details.”

“Haven’t heard of the effect at all, though?” You ask.

“Can’t say I have.” Ayla responds.

“Alright, thanks.” You nod. “Hey, I’m probably heading to clear a hidden area – a fire dungeon behind a secret passage. Probably has some good stuff behind it that can give you an edge…?”

“Sorry, Ashe. Like I said, I’ve got some stuff to take care of. No cheating their game, either; I’ve tried everything both times, and plan to do the same the next time it happens.” Ayla says, with a sigh of resignation.

“If you had an Artifact, though—?” You suggest.

“I do.” She responds; she subtly points to the drill, which appears to rotate exactly ninety degrees on the spot. “S’how I got that thing together. I can access my inventory without menuing and move stuff around remotely in workshop areas – lets me build to a holo-draft without help and without making any mistakes. Doesn’t matter if I’m ahead of the curve tech-wise. They took that from me too.”

“You weren’t allowed to use your Artifact?” You ask. Yours is the only reason you survived.

She shakes her head. Damn.

“And now you’re just trying to figure out a way to beat it or counteract the interference.” You continue.

“I’m trying to figure out anything I can.” Ayla says. “I’m logging soon. I’ll tell you if I catch anything new before then.”

Another moment of silence.

“Take care of yourself, Ayla.” You hold your arms out for an embrace, and she accepts. It’s brief, but as much comfort as you can offer.

Averron is as you left it when you return to the artificial light of the underground. You sit by the fountain alone for a moment, browsing your Identifier menu.

Relive distant memory- learn more lore and deepen our connection to the boss memories (Either as a cutscene or actually playing from their POV)
Imitate non-combat skills
Equip items associated with the memory for power boost (aetherbinder's cloak, ivory homunculus claw, earthsea royal signet ring, etc.)
Sacrifice items associated with memory for extreme power boost
Cause a Celestial Gem crush/full heal to refresh/temp buff Strife Memoriam as well
Partial Memory - Only call a part of the memory(limb, voice) in order to limit the weaknesses and make the Memory last longer.
Memory Brand - Infuse a target with a memory(usually of suffering, fire, death, and more suffering). Something more delicate for communication purposes may be more expensive.

Starlight bathes the broken blade as the dust of a crushed Celestial Gem washes over it, becoming pure white energy that forms the weapon’s new half. Fully formed memories of a love you have never felt flood out of your hand as so many alabaster motes – the very blessings of the gods that once were – and you are sad to see them go such that your heart hurts and you choke back sobs. But the Last Argument accepts them eagerly. It drinks the power, and becomes whole again. The blade of the savage greatsword is a pure silver tinted blue, swept hilt of royal cobalt bound in gold effects. Your hand itches as you take hold of it; its time is soon to come.

Briefly, you consider the form of Strife Memoriam. It is a tool to observe and reflect, thus:

> [0] Strife Memoriam becomes contained within the holder’s eye. Improves connection to memories. Imparts a free upgrade point. (Commit: 8 → 8)
> [1] Strife Memoriam takes shape of a grimoire that records the fate of its foes. Requires a free hand while a Memory is not active; frees all armor slots. (Commit: 8 → 10)
> [1] Strife Memoriam takes shape of a mirrored amulet that watches ceaselessly, occupying a jewelry slot instead. (Commit: 8 → 8)

You have one Celestial Gem remaining.

> Change the form of Strife Memoriam to a tome or amulet.
> Fix Strife Memoriam within yourself to afford a more expensive upgrade.
> Purchase a one-Gem upgrade.
> Save for now and depart.

You meditate on the power of Strife Memoriam, prepared to offer your lifeblood and more.

More Celestial Gems will come to you – you know for sure. You can’t let this opportunity slip through your fingers.

And if you were powerful enough to fight alone? You could reap the benefits yourself. You think, as you stand before the Altar.

I'm not too bothered about whichever way this vote goes. I'd argue that it's more worthwhile to save for a 2 or 3 gem upgrade but mostly I just wanna get a shield made or reinforce our cuirass with aethersteel and carapace and get on with the hidden fire zone. We made a lot of progress last thread and it was great but there was none of the action I crave.

It's not like we desperately need that extra upgrade that the 0 gem upgrade would give us. Maybe in a more dire situation. I agree that it would be cool to deepen our connection to the memories but after thinking about it I'm sure since it doesn't cost gems there's another hidden costs that probably involves further mindfuckery. Everything has a cost in this game.

When you exit the secret sanctuary, Vyx is in the next room, jumping from table to table. “Easy-peasy hide-and-seek.” She says. “What’s up, scrub?”

“I’m just gonna act like you don’t know any better ways of expressing your feelings.” You respond. She pouts, looking at you with an exaggerated frown.

“Your friends are upstairs.” The gunner says, cloak fluttering as she leaps around the room incessantly. Her getup looks about the same, but there’s a little more flourish to it – though her rapid-fire casters have been replaced with some kind of handcannons, one bouncing around on each side of her waist. They look like they’d break her waifish wrists if she shot them one-handed. “We goin’, or?”

“I’m looking for a fifth.” You say.

“We need one?” Vyx asks.

“Be good to have a full party.” You respond.

“You gotta shake up the meta a little bit sometimes.” Vyx grins, vaulting a chair. “This place like, big-time dangerous or something?”

“Probably -ish. It's kind of a secret spot.” You fold your arms, watching her come to a stop for the first time in a while. “You know anybody?”

“I got a guy who’s pretty ‘dece I can hit up if we need, yeah.” She responds. “Gimme a sec.”

“Just a minute, I’ve gotta make a run to the forge.” You say. “Feel free to come with.”

“You ever jump the pit?” She asks.

“Do what?” You cock an eyebrow at her as you make your way into the hall. “The pit in the Soulforge, you mean?”

“Yeah,” She nods. “If you get to speed, you can run around the outside of the wall without falling.”

“What even happens if you fall?” You ask.

“No idea. Be funny if it like, processed you into raw materials.” She smirks. You’re not sure you understand the sense of humor.

The forgemaster is exactly as loud as you’d hoped when he greets you. You ask about inventory options while Vyx walks all over the equipment.

“Vyx,” Nel asks, slumped up against a pillar, browsing the forums on his UI. “That item skill guide that got super popular – I just now noticed you wrote it.” He says, squinting as he looks at the image on his screen. “’Never Go Full Madcap’, is the one?”

“That’s me. My mailbox has been blowing up.” Vyx says. “By the way, if you were wondering – the big secret is that you pretty much always go full Madcap. My DPS is actually higher when I’m not touching the ground now.”

The four of you are stationed outside for another minute or so while you wait for Vyx’s invite to arrive. A light-fitting robe worn over armor plates of gray-blue metal, lines of light running all along them: he’s the first person you’ve seen that fits the description that comes to mind when you think of the word Artificer.

“Alright, everyone – Corny’s here. Let’s get this show on the road!” Vyx says, hopping up like she could sprint right off. “Ashe is tired of waiting.”

“Vyx.” The Artificer says. “Vyx’s friends. Cornelius. I’m sorry you know her.”

“Same.” You respond. “Lots of fire in this area, apparently. I should ask now if you’re good with that?”

“I’m good.” Cornelius says. “Adaptable. Should be able to cover the rough spots and increase our overall damage output. Can’t say the same for Vyx.”

“Implying I get hit.” Vyx gives a dismissive wave.

Inventories accorded and countermeasures prepared, and some strategies discussed in brief given you’ve no idea what to expect, the five of you make the long journey downward to the magma chamber, treading carefully as you enter the room where the Earthcrowned Phoenix allegedly fell. With the Symbol of Fire, you open the secret passage.

Fortress: the term suits well. It’s quiet inside, and you don’t even hear the rumbling of the underground. You walk in formation, crossing a bridge over troubled lava toward the molten edifice. You first notice the ancient, scorched bodies on low platforms near the lava, covered in a layer of soot, though the garments and red masks they don appear unburnt in death. Many are slumped, some prone, others entombed in ashes in a kneeling position—praying, as if offering themselves to the flames. They are like the people of old, of the Earthsea, you remember: human, but only just so, limbs elongated in uncanny ways. Only players are human; you know that.

“Nel, anything on this place?” You ask. “The stuff here, these symbols?”

“This place isn’t even on the map, Ashe. I’m flying blind myself.” He says. “It’s quiet enough that I could go off on a scouting run…”

“Hold it.” Cornelius grabs him by the shoulder, half-ducking and lowering his voice as his gaze rises to the inner gate.

“Is that a—fucking—?” Vyx asks. “Are there even—?”

It clicks, just then. The stone statues that stand sentinel about, flanking the pathway and looking down from the gates were filed to the back of your mind on sight as generic fantasy set-pieces. It takes you that deliberate moment of realization to take in that they depict something you weren’t even sure existed in this world.

You look over top the fortress, and the beast stares back.

The dragon’s claws dig into the volcanic rock of the subterranean ramparts, staring down with red eyes aglow. It looks large, even from here – larger than the true form of the King’s Hand, yet strong and lithe enough as to slither with wings tucked tight. It watches, plumes of smoke blooming from flared nostrils with a huffing breath.

“…Hail?” You ask, loud and unsure of yourself, ducked behind your round shield as you approach along the bridge. Beneath you, stalagmites and small platforms crop out of the river of lava that separates the hidden gateway – which has since slowly rumbled shut behind you – from the fortress proper.

There’s a deliberate pause as the drake stretches to its full height, red glow of the molten river reflecting eerily on the undersides of its wings, and affords a smoky, growling breath in response.

“What are you doing, Ashe?!” Nel asks, already putting distance between himself and the group.

“It’s fair – we don’t know how intelligent it is.” Cornelius replies. “It could try to communicate with us.”

It doesn’t.

When diplomacy fails, you rely on the Last Argument. Stepping forward unafraid, you raise the moltensteel shield as a barrier between you and the coming flames.

I think we should get these two, especially if we end up with only 3 gems. The PP commit cost will be lower than 12 since we decreased ours from 8 to 6 just now. It'd really take our artifact to a whole new level. Celestial techniques would be amazing without a doubt.

I assume it means we'll be able to use its powers without the mental influence it seems to have when a memory is activated. Ruby is kinda shit for me.

Rust handles blasting better and gives flight, and terrain destruction that cannot be sued as a weapon is kinda limited.

Don't forget we can reshape the battlefield to our advantage with that memory but I'll admit that it's usage is limited
>>
I am against putting things into the body when those things can fuck with our perception when using it and change how we think. That is not something you want to be closer with.

I'd go for it using a jewelry or amulet slot or whatever instead. Also making it an amulet so it "always watches" I don't know if that's just flavor text or if the thing legit is aware of things in the visible spectrum of its own power. I don't trust this thing. I never trust anything that fucks with brains. Goddamn Observes got me paranoid.

Oh hey did anyone smell CGs all of a sudden?

We could mitigate the I'll effects of the memories with the Purify/Exalt upgrade which would make me more comfortable with putting it in our eye. Implanted artifacts are just cool as fuck though man.
>>
>>1986302
Honestly if it was anything else. Any other artifact that did not directly fuck our brain to simply function I would be with you. It is fucking dope. And eye based shit is always in short supply, fucking laser eyes, man, and other cool shit. But I am wary. Even if we mitigate what it can do it still does things, and who knows if the mitigation will match the amplification that putting in our body will cause. We don't have enough information to make 100% sure decisions right now.

after the next 10-15 CG worth in upgrades it should be safe enough to put it directly inside Ashe's spinal column

All I know for sure is that I absolutely want the Purify/Exalt upgrade. As far as the eye upgrade goes I could take it or leave it.
>>
>>1986368
The P/E upgrade does seem like a no-brainer to get, yeah. Who knows, maybe we'll snag a memory that just straight up fucking hates Observer influence and works counter to their corruption that we could Exalt or something. Who knows.

He didn't even get to get high and run into a tree.

This is complete bullshit of course, but you should never hinge an argument on "just take risks bro, have F U N" because not everyone has the same concept of fun or entertainment. Not trying to put a damper on anyone who wishes to do it I'm just stating my preference and a general reason of why I'd prefer not to. Ultimately we will see each other on the voting field of battle and I wish you the best of luck.

An impasse indeed.
>>
I just feel that sticking artifacts into our body will lock us out of potential plot threads by virtue of being too busy worrying about how the artifact is fucking with our perception.

I don't mind too much about the other 2 forms, but I kind of like living with the restrictions of the circlet too. Forehead lasers/arcane bolt lesser Art anyone?

I guess I could be convinced otherwise if we could turn Strife Memoriam into a fucking megabuster.

You lost me there completely. That doesn't make sense at all

Whoever said that it implanting the artifact might help keep the Observers from taking it made a very good point. But I'm sure it's not without it's risks, like literally everything else in this game.

It could severely shorten the time it takes for Asche to be "corrupted by memory". Most other characters in BSO are haunted by paranoia and stress, and I don't think it's fair for Asche to go ham hard on the ways BSO fucks with your head and turn out fine purely out of jolly cooperation.

I'd rather take the purify/exalt upgrade without sticking it into our body first. Besides, if "free upgrade point" is anything to go by, we could potentially save it for something that costs 10 CGs rather than 4.

[[ HP: 33 / 35 ]]

Damn, that’s hot.

Were it not for this shield, though, you’d be in a much worse-off spot. Flame blooms over the sides of the circular barrier, threatening to wrap around and consume you totally. It carries with it not just heat but a tangible force that pushes you back as you press against the approaching wall of fire.

Then, gunshots, from behind you. The most realistic ones you’ve ever heard in Broken Sky Online, in fact – or at least, what you imagine a real gun going off behind you sounds like – echo through the chamber as tracers whip overhead at a barely perceptible velocity; Vyx’s new weapons are firing enormous slugs rather than the caster bolts you’re used to, which take chunks out of the volcanic ramparts and bite into the drake’s scales. It hates this, and says so with a bellowing roar as it takes flight, soaring close to the cavern ceiling high overhead; the flames abate for a moment and are replaced with a pressure wave that sends you skidding backward toward the rest of the group.

“Incoming—!” in Nel’s plaintive voice is all you get to hear before a fireball from overhead scatters your ranks. You see him fly from the bridge, barely catching hold of the edge over the molten rock before scrambling down in search of safe footing underneath. You have no idea what he’s going to be able to do to damage this thing.

“Do we even have a plan?” Vyx asks. Her weapons are glowing orange-white with heat, and there’s spent casings all around her as she scrambles down the bridge toward the fortress. “Is there a playbook for this?”

“We’re making it.” Cornelius says, looking to be menuing as he walks – but keeping the enemy in the corner of his eye. He withdraws a longsword, which appears in one hand, and some sort of wand or rod which appears in the other. An aura of cold spreads outward from its feet, rapidly attenuating in the heat of this place but passing beneath you all the same. “So be patient.”

> [[ HP: 34 / 35 ]]
> [[ Fire Resistance Up ]]

Another blast of fire sends the two of you flying in opposite directions and destroys a length of the bridge in between; you hear the volume of the blast as it reaches you and knocks you away, and are treated to an upside-down view of rocks tumbling into the magma river beneath.

> [[ HP: 30 / 35 ]]

When you land, you look up, and see the drake sneering at you. Patience might work – but you realize that it’s other games in which the dragons land after a while to fight on your terms. It’s feeling you out, right now, and you’re not sure how sustainable this is…

We need to make a plan. I say the ranged members get into a position of cover while Tats and I attack the dragon directly, us using our memory of exile to reach him and tats using her madcap effect, assuming she's actually using that armor we gave her.

The difference is if we stay still we can't hurt it and it can keep spewing fire at us as long as it wants from range.

Our ranged members can dish out the damage.

Going into the fortress carries the risk of us getting flanked by the next mobs.

I was honestly kinda disappointed that repairing the last argument didn't reveal any new effects. It seems like quite a steep price for nothing but a +1 nobility. Unless nobility is a super rare effect. Yeah it's a masterwork which I think means it deals more damage but still.

It might be worth using the final AOE magic attack to bring the dragon to the ground. If we're lucky it'll have some synergy since we're wielding the sword that used to belong to the memory we're using.

>Activate the Memory of Exil and scale the fortress wall.

The only problem is that then we'd be unable to climb down any walls safely because it would end the memory as soon as we used the AOE attack. Pretty risky. I'm still undecided. We're the only one who's really capable of bringing it down to the ground though.
>>
Last Argument of Kings had +2 nobility when we first identified it, why did it change to +1?
>>
>>1995112
I noticed that too. Could be a typo, or it could have something to do with having repaired it?

Also we should ask the Forgemaster if he can upgrade it in any fashion. It's unlikely, but it'll help feel out his power level.

>>
>>1995243
Well I mean, I'm all for that too but we can at least ask him about it first and have one on hand in case he comes up with something interesting.

No MY waifus a shit you bastard!

Also I had a thought that would actually be really fucky and kind of frightening in universe. Ascheritte gets an artifact or relic or spell that automatically translates languages he sees and hears in the game into something he can understand and then Tatsumaki can understand his speech and vice versa

That would implicate some crazy shit.
>>
>>1997885
Wouldn't it make more sense for Tats to acquire said artifact
>>
>>1997972
The implication remains the same, really. Only reason I use Ashe as an example is so that we as the players can see it first hand. It'd make even more sense for one of the lore focused players to get that artifact so they can read ancient manuscripts and wall carvings and shit. But regardless that's some fuckery if it translates real world shit as well as the fictional stuff in game.
>>
>>1997972
Or someone interested in deciphering the numerous unreadable books scattered about everywhere. Like a member of WK. The books are mentioned too often to be merely decorative.

An upgrade to Memoriam may also let us access various skills held by the sources of the memories before we ganked them, from swordsmanship to magic to reading.
>>
>>1998041
I could easily believe that being able to read ancient writings is a big part of the reason Hecatelia is so advanced.
>>
>>1998099
How would we go about asking for an artifact that would let us do that?

"I want something that will allow me to understand what those before us have left behind."
>>
>>1998041
>>1998099
>>1998108
This seems like something that ought to be doable for strife memoriam. Ask for it to get a mode where we access the knowledge of a stored memory rather than for the power. It's not like we need it off cooldown when we're in town.
>>
>>1998372
This seems like something we might just be able to get with the proper application of the purify/exalt upgrade.
>>
>>1998418

>>
>>1998539
Yeah nah, any upgrade that involves more tapping into memories should be preceeded by one that protects us from further mindfuckery. If things keep going as they are, we're gonna start seeing shit during conversations or even combat.
>>
>>1998563
Purifying is what would protect us and lessen their influence
>>
>>1998539

Yeah this is the one I'm talking about. This one gives us access to multiple celestial techniques instead of just one. Seems better than spending 3 gems on a single celestial technique that is guaranteed to infect us even further with Observer power.

It's a bit taboo, but maybe we should ask for a way to contact Ayla outside the game. It doesn't have to be real life information, it could just be her discord or an irc channel. That way we can talk to her even if she dies during the login dream sequence.
>>
>>2002739
Yeah I agree completely
>>
>>2002739
Yeah. Also we still need to ask about that mystery skill that +1 from killing the observer and try to get her to invest in a holy shrine to see if that shields her.

Also a though occurred while I was working. We only started getting jumped by observers after the prophecy was given to us. Is the true for her? If so all 4 people who saw it are in danger.
>>
So I feel like the lifedrain ability that Freya has sounds similar to how the Observers drained the powers of the celestials before defeating them. Freya's power doesn't just drain health, it seems to also transfer some kind of other essence or abilities from the target to the recipient since it jacked us into the Telthiss hivemind. We need to talk to her about the origin of her powers, I'm a bit confused about what exactly it is since I'd be surpirsed if a celestial artifact could have Observer powers.
>>
>>2002824
It also started right after we got our artifact though too. Could just be correlation instead of causation. A weird part I noticed about the Earthsea prophecy is this part.
>You are like some manner of ghost or shade, a formless Observer. You carry a coat of ash beneath you that twists and dissipates slowly as you maneuver out of the suffocating cloud. Ducking under fallen archways and rising over bridges, you search for the heart of this place.
It seemed pretty innocuous at first but why is Observer capitalized? Our form even seems Observer-esque.
>>
>>2002824
Did our mystery skill +1 after killing the Observer really? I didn't even noticed.

Liza was vague, but it sounds like she may've been jumped by Observers at least once and she wasn't there for the prophecy.

>>2002833
Well our Memory of Exile has a chance to give us a UI-Scrambled 'Celestial Technique' and that's via our celestial artifact.

Not that we know what a celestial technique is.
>>
>>2002843
Don't forget
>I live in you
>>
>>2002847
Yeah that's only available through a memory of an Observer-puppet boss though.
>>
>>2002853
Just pointing out how we also violate the rule of: "I'd be surpirsed if a celestial artifact could have Observer powers". There are convoluted ways to achieve it.
>>
So we really need to get more info on Observers. We can't use the message boards to do so. I say we organize a meetup at the Observatory with large handwritten in-game posters and word of mouth to find anyone who's had contact with Observers or anyone interested in learning about them. What do you guys think?
>>
>>2003180
Also we could get everyone to meet up outside the Observatory and make an announcement from the balcony like we did to organize the battle with the exiles.
>>
>>2003180
I think we should just kill shit and loot stuff and we'll eventually find info on Observers anyway, and in a much less boring way.
>>
>>2003651
...how is that boring? There's power in numbers and the average person doesn't know about the observers. That's why we need to find those who have made contact with them.
>>
>>1998041
>>1998372
We should get a "Cortana" upgrade for Strife Memoriam where the allocated memory can observe things and talk to us like an AI. Then we can just ask Kjorikos to read things for us.
>>
>>2003701
If purifying decreases the memory's hold over strife memoriam then exalting them probably does the opposite which could probably lead to that sort of thing.
>>
>>2003651
I agree, actually. Though the discussion of ideas is nice.

We should always keep at least 1 CG on hand though, in case we get ambushed and need a leg up to survive. Which would synergize well with the Strife Memoriam upgrade actually.
>>
>>2003724
What do you have against meeting up with the only other people who can relate and be useful to the overarching conflict in this game?
>>
>>2003743
Becoming an active target, rather than a passive one of opportunity, for the Observers.
>>
>>2003754
If being specifically pulled to the overworld among presumably millions of players to fight one doesn't make us an active target I don't know what does
>>
>>2003776
Actively working against them, rather than playing the game and becoming an occasional target would be my guess.
>>
>>2003792
I don't see Ascheritte as the type to be passive toward the big bad of the entire game once he's learned about them and fought them already. This doesn't mean we won't play the other parts of the game too.
>>
>>2003809
I can definitely see him waiting til he's a bit higher level before taking on the big bad of the entire game. Did you not catch the vibes off the Prophecy we witnessed that it's not something we should actively pursue until we're really damn ready?
>>
>>2003823
we don't have much choice since they are actively hunting and haunting a friend and driving her nuts.
>>
>>2003831
I dunno, just seems like a really bad idea to try to directly confront them just yet. Getting people to believe us in the first place will be difficult. Add on to that they're extremely tough enemies and calling them out is likely to result in some sort of direct attack...and the player population of Averron has recently taken a nosedive due to the Earthsea shenanigans (which were, might I note, basically a direct attack from the Observers that the entire combined might of Averron would've been crushed by were it not for us).

Doesn't seem like the right time nor place to do it to me.
>>
>>2003841
Dude, they're fucking with us and others already. Would you rather get picked off one by one or make a stand?
>>
>>2003841
>Getting people to believe us in the first place will be difficult.
That's why I want to get everyone who knows about them for sure with us.
>>
>>2003854

I'd rather get stronk enough to make a stand, then make a stand. There's no initiative to capitalize on right now. We're on the downswing of public excitement /after/ the Earthsea invasion, and that aside we've not actually got as much name recognition among people-at-large as anons like to think.

>>2003855
I'd be willing wager that even the ones who do know about them will mostly stay away. If our attempts to get word out aren't mystically sabotaged by the Observer then it'll be because of the reasons I've listed in my last several posts. Not wanting to become a bigger target.
>>
>>2003873
We don't even have a coordinated set of armor right now, and we're talking like we could do shit against an endgame threat.
>>

>Is Ascheritte becoming well known due to his observatory?

>His name, along with some of the other individuals who had a hand in defeating Kjorikos, is visible to people visiting the Observatory or using the Celestial Altar. So some of the more attentive players (or the roleplay oriented and those who care about the obviously-important social dynamics of BSO) would recognize his name with some esteem if mentioned, but wouldn't necessarily know his face or particular achievements beyond anything anyone might have said or posted on the forums about it.Leaders and officers of top guilds are typically more household names, as far as in-game fame goes.

We're far from a household name.
>>
>>2003878
Yeah but think about this: we only need to beat one endgame level threat and then we get endgame level threat level powers to beat future endgame level threats. That means there's no downside to attracting as much dangerous attention as possible as fast as possible.
>>
>>2003934
I really disagree. For one thing, all they need to do is wait for Strife Memoriam to be down in order to nullify your argument. Which they did once already and nearly killed us, we just had excellent luck, and that wasn't against anything near endgame level.
>>
>>2003903
Or maybe I'm being the only voice of reason here and you're all suicidal maniacs.

>>2003963

>>
>>2003994
It's not like I can make a majority out of myself, if anons agree with you that's what we'll do.

But when the Observers step up their attack on us/everyone involved and things go horribly and we end up nameless I'll be sitting back and laughing while pointing fingers and saying "I told you so!"

>formatting got fucked when I pasted it
I'm no QM but I feel like I feel their pain now, just a little.
>>
Let's try this again in an actually readable format.

Here’s what I can remember about what the Observers are capable of.

They were capable of stealing the power of the Celestials in order to subjugate them and by extension the entire world, driving the people of Sylvetica beneath the surface and taking great pains to keep them there.

They can empower, influence, and eventually take over the mind of NPCs such as the King of the Earthsea and his closest followers (such as Cidren, the Hand of the King)

They are also capable of sealing the entrances into the Earthsea or at least have control over someone who can.

They can impart their own powers unto players like Freya but it seems to have a price. In Freya’s case she was supposed to betray her own people.

They can take single out players during their login to either fight them or put them into a maze, and most likely more. The strange part about this is that they seemed prepared for Ayla, taking her artifact and placing her in a maze that seems custom tailored to her skillset. We almost seemed to catch them unaware since they did not take our artifact from us and they were just strolling along the Overworld before discovering us and attacking, before retreating after we wounded but did not kill its Guardian. They also appeared to be unaware of our artifact until they saw it during our original fight with them which could be why they didn’t take it.

When in direct combat with them they have minions called Guardians which seem more bestial and savage while the Observers seem more humanoid and capable of speech. Guardians are extremely fast and strong, capable of making great leaps and closing distance in the blink of an eye. Both the Observers and the Guardians appear to be resistant to the corrosive air of the Overworld.

During our fight with the Observer (not a Guardian) within Cidren’s corpse it was capable of shedding razor like projectiles of its own shadowy biomass as well as shapeshifting. It was also capable of poisoning us through needles that penetrate with mere contact with its body. It also gave us the dazed status with a psychic scream. Worst of all is its curse ability, which renders items unusable and is spread by contact and can then be transferred from equipped item to equipped item as well as cursing several stored inventory items at random if it touches our UI. It can only be uncursed by using a celestial artifact for each cursed item or using several to create Hallowed ground which will almost certainly start an Observer siege on that area.

The only known weakness of the Observers is the white flame-light on the bodies of both the Observers and their Guardians. That’s the only way we ever killed one. It is susceptible to mundane physical attacks.
>>
>>2003180
>>2003994
>>2004089
I want to point out that I already suggested a middleground compromise: starting another "event" for raising the Sacred Grounds and using that as an opportunity to share and receive information about Observers.
>>
>>2004753
To be honest I don't want to spend a bunch of gems on hallowed ground if all it does is uncurse items that we've already replaced and piss off the Observers. Maybe if it was really cheap.
>>
>>2004757
If it pisses off the Observers, it probably holds a clue on how to fight them. And as the above anon said, it might also help Ayla.
>>
>>2004762
I don't hate this idea but I feel we should have a large group of people who have experience with observers prepared beforehand. It'd be less chaos and show us as more of an authority. Also really like to have the Purify/Exalt upgrade before we spend any more gems on anything else. Especially if we're gonna be fighting more Observers soon.
There's also the issue of people finding out that we endangered everyone by making the hallowed ground with full knowledge of the risk of an Observer attack on our already small population
>>
>>2004768
I don't think we should do it right this moment, but once Ayla's out of time we should do it.
>>
>>2004771
If we do end up doing it we need to warn everyone beforehand.
>>
>>2004762
We can just fight Observers with lightning. It worked last time and there's no reason it would stop working. All we need to do is exalt Kjorikos and drop gems into reducing cooldown and increasing uptime so we're always ready.
>>
>>2004831
To be fair we shot a lightning bolt clear through an Observers guardian and it kinda hurt it but it ended up walking away from it
>>
>>2004836
A clean and total victory.
>>
>>2004825
That is rather the whole point of the event, yes, informing everyone with the promise of potential loot so that theyre actually paying attention?
>>
>>2004953
I mean they have to know about Observers beforehand and how dangerous they are
>>
>>2005108
Sure, it'd be kind of hard to announce the event without also explaining what the Observers are.
>>
>>2005148
It'd be a pretty hard sell considering the catastrophic casualties of our recent "event". Most people would just evacuate except for the rare few who know about Observers and maybe a few others.
>>
>>2004160
I can't help it if I told you about stairs, bro and you still choose to fall down them.

>>2004753
Again, can't we get stronk before doing this? We're in the recovery phase from one disaster, we don't need to do anything that'd prompt another soon.
>>
>>2006321
Until the thing we're trying to face comes at us even harder with more shit. Ayla is out of time bruh .
>>
>>2006134
I believe in our fellow man. In their compassion, in their curiosity, and ESPECIALLY their greed.
>>
>>2006619
The thing is that we didn't get any drops from the Observer we fought, we just got Cidrens loot.
>>
>>2006629
to be fair, aggroing boss level mobs to us is already plenty. If they really sent more guys like Cidren, that's more boss loot that you don't need to go through an entire dungeon for.

But I'm rather more focused on "doing the Celestials a solid favor should have rewards of some sort"
>>
>>2006653
I'd picture them just coming themselves with some of their Guardians instead of bringing any other puppets from the Earthsea.
>>
>>2006543
You're acting like what's being proposed here isn't MORE likely to make that happen than just buffing up. They've got plenty of shit in reserve, I'm sure, it's just a matter of what they decide to bring to the fore at a given point.
>>
>>2006867
so we're either condemning everyone to die slowly unable to defend themselves with attacks they cannot defend against when they log in, or forcing the issue and giving people a chance not to get taken out one by one by one in rapid succession.
>>
I'm just saying this in case people don't realize it, but the Observers are probably self aware bugs in the system, which in turn is represented by the Celestials. There's a decent chance they can access the message boards, since it can be accessed through the game.
>>
>>2006881
That sounds like a straw man and slippery slope fallacy all in one sentence.

>>2006883
I think so too. Do you remember when we logged out that one night, and we saw something skittering around our room from the corner of our eyes (and then just ignored it to play BSO instead)? That, combined with our weird dreams and random string entries into our phone (that resemble Observer scrambling) and what Ayla mentioned about the game utilizing our wetware to help process the simulated world all make for very interesting implications if the Observers are a self-aware glitch.
>>
>>2006910
I wonder what the Celestials will do to the Players who have been depending on their gifts after they're done cleaning up their reality and the Observers are dead and gone. A thanks and a blowjob? I somehow doubt it.
>>
>>2006920
We need to learn more about the celestials as well as the Observers. We know more about the bad guys than we know about the supposed good guys.
>>
>>2006930
Yeah all we know is they give us artifacts in exchange for their mindfuck gems and that they were beaten by the Observers.
>>
>>2006910
>That sounds like a straw man and slippery slope fallacy all in one sentence.

It's realy not, Ayla is all but certain she will die when she tries to log in next time. If the Observers are picking apart the best and brightest in a way they cannot effectively respond like Ayla then they can quickly and efficiently mow down scores of people.
>>
I say we kill everything and steal any CGs they may have be they Observer, Celestial, NPC or PC.

Then we wouldn't have to worry about any of that stuff.
>>
>>2006910
>That sounds like a straw man and slippery slope fallacy all in one sentence.
only as much as >>2006867 and >>2006321

We ARE getting stronk right now. Everyone is. That's kind of a continuous thing as long as we keep everyone from all out civil war. Again.

And one of the ways to do that is to keep everyone on task, either by resolving the guild problem in Averron, setting up our own guild in the Observatory(which some people find "boring"), or informing everyone about the Observers to keep them too busy to fight each other.
>>
>>2007051
No, what I'm suggesting is distinctly possible, whereas his argument assumes, for a short list
>Every player will be targeted
>Every player will be targeted when they log in
>No one will be able to defend themselves

And then he continues in this post: >>2007021
to do something similar, where he assumes that an isolated problem is endemic (we know of 1 other person in the entirety of Averron that's had this happen to them) and bases his arguments from that premise rather than the way things have been demonstrated to be thus far.

If you could point out specifics of where you think I'm making similar unfounded assumptions then I'd be happy to discuss it.

As for getting stronk, yeah we are and yeah it's a continuous process but again we haven't even gotten coordinated gear yet. Also as a city we're nowhere near on par with, say, Hecatelia. Based on that I don't think we're ready for super heavy duty stuff just yet, just more of the exploring that we've been doing.
>>
>>2007079
>, where he assumes that an isolated problem is endemic (we know of 1 other person in the entirety of Averron that's had this happen to them)
They erase and message board posts, they probably kill most in first round given we would have died without the artifact they missed. Even if they just target top tier people that cripples everyone else.

You're advocating burying our head and ignoring a persistent and liable to grow issue.
>>
>>2007079
Coordinated gear is a non-issue. It's good to have a variety of armor provided skills
>>
>>2007107
I'm advocating waiting to act on a persistent and liable to grow issue until we're better equipped.

If this problem were happening super often then we would have many more message board posts and/or word of mouth about folks who just go missing, or log and then never return. Its possible that this is the case, but we could certainly put feelers for that sort of shit out before we went and announced to the whole of Averron about boogeymen who are likely to retaliate against us personally.

Also we would definitely notice if they targeted top tier people consistently. It would be known that they disappeared without explanation.
>>
>>2007079
Being too afraid that whatever we do will set off an unnamed reserve of Observer forces is the same as being too afraid that every player will be targeted one by one.

Yes, people are being targeted. This is probably how all of Nel's friends have been dying NEL IS A SERVANT OF THE OBSERVERS, SETTING PLAYERS UP TO BE KILLED AS THEY LOG ON. Not everyone is going to suddenly start dying, but it's a thing that is actually happening and raising tension.

Yes, the Observers probably have more forces ready to throw at us. We might not be ready to take them on as individuals. But if they send them at us in a straight fight, they don't have the advantages a Dungeon affords, and they have to face a full population of players, not small groups that have been further reduced by said picking off of players.

We're not an organized army like Hecatelia, but I'm not so certain we're ever going to GET like that, not in an acceptable span of time. Nobody wants Lyza's elitism, and I got basically no support to equip everyone in aethersteel. If we're not going to purposely bump up everyone's strength through politics or economics, just letting the status quo continue could get more people killed in the long run.

Again, I'm not saying we should do the event right this moment, but I'm not even sure how far back you're arguing to push this issue. We're IN a dungeon right now. We're not likely to just pack up and leave because we got a great idea, let's start an event.
>>
>>2007131
Except none of our stuff has actually had any time and effort invested into it to make it good. It's all fairly basic stuff.

Are we still in leather boots, btw? Or did we get new ones crafted? I somehow forgot after reading the thread.
>>
>>2007154
You do know that our character sheet exists right? The only armor worth replacing right now is our gauntlets, the rest is high tier.

https://pastebin.com/pZv3XUPQ
>>
>>2007137
>I'm advocating waiting to act on a persistent and liable to grow issue until we're better equipped.

which by then could very well be far to late. Ignoring cancer to let it spread in order to get a paycheck typically end poorly.

>If this problem were happening super often then we would have many more message board posts

We barely check the message boards as it is and the fuckers erase all signs

>word of mouth about folks who just go missing, or log and then never return.
With all the shit that goes on, between rampant Pk'ing, raids, and simple life happening most people would miss it or assume something else happened.

>Also we would definitely notice if they targeted top tier people consistently.

Like Ayla and Freya neither of whom told anyone? Or how Liza seems to have first hadn experience with them? Or how about Nel's friend who damn near carried her team just up and dying to three nameless we killed with ease? She probably logged in, died to observers and then got dropped where nameless found the corpse.

The game is so chaotic and CGs so distracting most people don't notice shit. Like how despite us leading the two big announcements and having our name on the Observatory alter no one but a few know us.
>>
>>2007165
>https://pastebin.com/pZv3XUPQ
Eh, evidently your definition and mine of 'high tier' varies wildly.

>Strife Memoriam, a Celestial artifact (worn, accessory, soulbound, 6/16 PP committed)
It's an excellent artifact, no doubt.

>“The Last Argument of Kings”, a masterwork relic greatsword (wielded, right hand)
It's masterwork and a relic, almost certainly awesome, no doubt.

>reinforced moltensteel bulwark (wielded, left hand)
It's certainly serving as an excellent shield against fire damage right now, and will likely be good against most damage. Undoubtedly better than our wooden buckler. The amount of effort that went into getting this piece of gear is, I feel, what we should do for our entire set.
>aetherbinder's cloak (worn, covering chest/head)
It was a boss's drop, so it's nice but it literally just gives +1 Resistance to Elemental Magic Damage that's it. There's surely a way to upgrade this.
>aethersteel chain helm (worn, head)
Gives +1 Damage resistance and +1 Resistance to non-elemental damage (that's a niche). We just bought this from the Forgemaster didn't we? There's better shit out there that can be made, found, or bought. Or we could upgrade this is you're attached for some reason.
>pegasus gilded cuirass (worn, chest)
It's not bad, but it can also be upgraded to be FUCKING BADASS, I'm sure. The only thing it's really got going for it right now is the charge effect.

>onyx-studded gauntlets (worn, hands)
Bonus damage to non/lightly armored targets made sense against the Earthsea fellows. Malus to armored targets never made sense. It doesn't have any other benefits, this is kinda shitty.

>star-plate leggings (worn, legs)
Heavy armor, kinda goes against our MO I think. Not bad, nothing special either though (yeah, fall resistance isn't anything special really, we don't know how much it really grants). We could upgrade it or get something something else for all I care.

>handcrafted lavastrider boots (masterwork, worn, feet)
About the same tier as the shield, except much more situational and therefore not as good.

>earthsea royal signet ring (worn, right hand)
Dunno, I like it though.

>"Dross", an aberrant fluxsaber (alternate weapon, worn on belt)
We've yet to try it, I bet it's cool, but the creator was literally going to throw it away as garbage.

>Unique Identifier: Ascheritte (worn, fixed, soulbound)
Yeah.
>>
>>2007197
There's no evidence that Nel's friend was killed by Observers at all. Players die in this game all the time and we don't even know of any that have died to Observers.
>>
>>2007249
It deserves note that I think all this shit will get upgraded to a comfortable standard if we just continue doing what we're doing (farming mats occasionally and exploring/dungeon diving).

I just see doing what we've been doing as opposed to what people want to do (focusing on Observers).

If we carry on doing this shit and don't just go balls to the wall about the Observers straight away then I think everything will work out quite alright It's just big moves that I don't think are the best thing right now, small ones would be fine, like more investigation of the message boards/internet or talking to people to gather information by word of mouth.
>>
>>2007249
From the list of materials we've already seen, there's not much "upgrading" we can do without heavy specialization.

Worm Teeth aren't really appropriate for armor, and have a high crafting skill req.

We could replace some pieces with silverwing gear for climbing/evasion tags, but upgrading, say, the cloak, chain helm, or pegasus cuirass with them would probably be a much more involved process. Anything that isn't a plain elemental essence enchant might need better crafting facilities, too.
>>
>>2007309
We've got the aetheric resonator in the Observatory, we also have yet to ask the Forgemaster what he might be able to do so far as upgrading our stuff is concerned.

We've gotten some armor-inserts that were said to be popular among gunners for bulking up otherwise defenseless materials before. I would have to think that there's a way to just reinforce pretty much any armor piece that's not super-special at least once, even if it requires a specific material to do so.

The way I see it though we're mostly running on either unmodified monster drops or unmodified NPC products for all our gear. That seems far from good enough for serious business to me.
>>
>>2007197
Okay, so first of all if it's been like that all this time then that just means shit's stable. Why make it worse unless we've figured out something that we definitely think will make it better?

Anyway it's pretty clear that this is a pointless argument now.
>>
Our leggings are shit desu
>>
>>2007352
>Okay, so first of all if it's been like that all this time then that just means shit's stable.
because Nameless and Players blaming each other over unexplained deaths counts as "stable", sure.

>>2007343
>aetheric resonator
wasn't that taken by the others? Besides, that is explicitly for using elemental essences.

>some armor-inserts
yes. The silverwings. Like I said.

And they're evasion/climbing armor partially due to their light weight. You can't just stick them on to heavier armor and expect the same bonuses, that's why I said it would be a more involved process. To get a true upgrade, you would need to remove and replace different bits, which is a level of granularity I'm not sure is practical in this quest, and it might be better to just have separate silverwing and aethersteel pieces anyway.
>>
>>2007413
I might be mixing up my quests but I was pretty sure there were just some basic armor-inserts that we acquired somewhere or another. Let me check.
>>

Here we go
ceramic plates, 20# ea
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/44309252/

Generic armor upgrade bits.
>>
>>2007452
Oh, you're talking about ceramic plates. Lightweight mage/gunner armor.

We could add them to....actually I think that's a terrible idea. Ceramic plates are ablative, that is, they reduce damage by breaking.

>1) That's bad for protracted fights. This is why frontliners don't use them, since it'll only last the first few hits and then becomes dead weight that would poke you if it was on the helmet.
>2) We use the pegasus charge. That is, RAMMING enemies. The ceramic plates would actually serve to REDUCE the damage we deal to what we ram, AND break.
>>
>>2007476
I'm saying there's got to be something equivalent for heavier armors (a generic upgrade bit). I'm sure the Forgemaster would know about it. I'm not talking about specifically putting those ones into our armor, for many reason a few of which you've listed, though I doubt the game treats them with that degree of fealty to real life.
>>
If possible I'd like to get more armor that enhances our mobility. Like the silverwing boots that help with climbing or our current jump boosting boots. The decreased fall damage from our star plate leggings is really nice for our downward strike attack too.
>>
>>2007505
>something equivalent for heavier armors (a generic upgrade bit)
I thought the whole reason people hate starplate is because it weighs us down? Surely a generic heavy armor upgrade would do the same?
>>
>>2007552
It really depends on quite a few different things. Upgrades to a given armor piece could be handled at just tacking on extra material (where yeah, it'd likely slow us down more) or it could be handled as reworking it with different materials such that it provides benefits or removes penalties.

We really haven't explored the whole crafting system enough to know how it would go without asking and trying, but it would seem odd that a game this in-depth wouldn't let you customize your armor with wild and crazy detail.
>>
>>2007572
we have Vyx in our party. The girl who made the item and build guide. We'll ask her AFTER we killed the dragon.
>>
>>2007601
We could also just get the book.
>>
>>2007628

>>2007634

>>
>>2007639
I also feel like we really need to talk to Freya to get the whole picture on the Observers as well as Sulya for any overall lore because she seems like the most informed player and the most well-connected player in lore discussion circles. We made a lot of headway recently into figuring out important stuff be there's still questions to be answered.
>>
>>2007639
A guide is written over a long time, formulated in an easily digestible manner, and reviewed and reformatted afterwards, possibly with help from peers. A speech relies on Vyx's immediate memory, current mood and patience.

It's probably much, much better to read the book rather than listen to the significantly annoying master.
>>
>>2009580
You assume A. It's been consistntly updated, B we won't have to get her input on the sweet ass unique dragon hide drops.
>>
>>2009747
I thought we'd turn the hide into a sanding belt, the fangs into drill bits and the bones into lathes. Maybe use the fat for tempering oil.

And then everything you forge with those is dragonforged. I'm pretty sure it works that way.

>>
>>2011379
I didn't say we should do one of those vague things, I suggested we ask the Celestials for one very specific type of ability. We don't know what a literal memory delving upgrade would cost, or how many of our stored memories it would apply to.
>>
>>2011362

>>

>>
>>2011379
>>2011462
Nah, that's a good thing. If it's 4 gems and 3 PP commitment, it's probably extremely powerful. My guess is that immortalizing a memory's power gives it some sort of permanent effect while wearing Strife Memoriam, and that Celetial Techniques are also extremely potent.
>>
>>2012055
See the doubled PP commitment makes me think that it's giving us the permanent ability to check out memories and purify or Exalt them as we see fit. I don't see how that gem and PP price could be justified otherwise
>>

Gem upgrades will always be worth it, Sylv wouldn't screw us over. It would actually be way too overpowered if we could get 4 different celestial techniques for just 4 gems. I'm still rooting for it because it sounds extremely interesting.
