The year is 1953. The great war has raged for nearly 50 years without end. Nations have risen and fallen, armies march daily, the skies are darkened by soot and smoke. It is a age of war. A age of glory.

The age of the Shells.

When the British first unveiled their prototype tanks on tie early battlefields, their initial success was met by a new type of armored vehicle. Able to cross trenches with the agility of infantry and take small arms fire with the durability of tanks, came the Shells. Armored bipedal walkers, armed with mortars, Field guns, anti-aircraft cannons. The Shells enabled their pilots to engage the slower tanks at close range and destroy them effortlessly.

Before long, every major power was producing Shells to combat their opponents. The British Mk3 Footman, The American M7 Patriot, The German Mk15 EisenSoldat. Coupled with the improved tanks, Infantry and air support from the fleets of Zeppelins covering battlefields like malignant clouds, the battlefields of this conflict are dangerous, chaotic and desolate places. Welcome to hell soldier.

The White and Red field of the Polish Resistance flag stares back at you. The paint is chipped and faded but the other resistance members lovingly maintain it.

You look around the safehouse. Wounded fighters are being brought in from a weapons depot raid. Apparently the Germans were waiting for them. You rub your eyes and lever yourself to your feet, helping to carry in a heavily wounded man missing his arm from the shoulder down. A high caliber round clipped it clean off. After surrendering a scarf as a tourniquet you go to grab your gear, odds are you'll be sent out soon.

"Piotr Wojciechowski" you say proudly, the most Polish of names rolling from your tongue.

He looks at you with a critical eye before making a note on his paper, shooing you on where a group of several other men are gathering.
"Go, go! You are with Dmitri's group. He will be in charge. Go go!"

You quickly find the leader of the distraction squad, a bearded man slightly older and taller than yourself, the Resistance flag stitched to the front of his jacket.

"Good. You are my new heavy Gunner yes? Good good. I am Dmitri Torkovksy. Lets keep each other alive yes?"
He says with a gruff smile, pointing you towards the other men in your squad. It seems there are several groups of fighters moving in but your group seems composed of those trained to pilot Shells.

Dmitri leads you all to the underground garage where the Shells are stored. The resistance lacks the ability to manufacture new ones but they have captured or salvaged dozens of German and Russian Shells. With some heavy modification to the EisenSoldat chassis and some makeshift weaponry, the resistance does very well for itself.

You pause at the line of Mechs that are modified for heavy weapons use. Trying to decide which to claim as your own.

How did you get out of thr germans pow camp?

You settle your eye on a "Blitz" model. The field gun replacing the left arm is a hell of a heavy weapon. Its lack of a close combat option is concerning to you but with that shield you dont think you have to worry.

The rest of your squad begins falling into their own Shells, sealing the hatches behind them. You see a few Support styled shells along with several Assaults. You'll be making a hell of an entrance at that outpost.

Dmitri seals himself into his own Shell, a armored beast plodding along on 4 legs and bristling with machine guns. His amplified voice rings out
"We've got a job to do men! Lets go and do it!"

Short and to the point.

You climb into the seat of your Shell and seal the hatch behind you. Instantly the small lights on the interior illumunate as you slide your feet into the leg controls and your hands into the gauntlet like controls for the arms. You take an experimental step forward and the motor hums, the hydraulics smoothly easing you forward. You grin to yourself. This should be fun.

The hidden ramp to the mech garage swings down and your squad charges up it, turning onto the rubble strewn street just behind the captured trucks carrying your infantry support.

Your squad makes quick work of the run through the ruins of the city, eying the standing buildings for German Snipers. Their bombing campaign reduced much of the city to rubble in their attempt to burn out the resistance. In the fires of the scorched city, the hate for the Germans was forged strong as steel.

Civilians and Scavengers duck into cover as your squad passes out of the city toward the outpost, the faint glow of electric lights giving away its position. You settle into position near the troop trucks that have disgorged their contents, your support teams and the infiltration team.

Eying the camp from the small ridge through your sights you can see several tempting targets for when the attack starts.

Quick explanation of how combat works in this setting. While in a Shell, engaging another Shell/Tank/Static position for the initial attack we roll a D100 to see if it hits. Different ranges and weapons will have different DC's.

If it hits we will then roll a D10 to see WHERE it hits on the Target. Once we have that established, we roll a D6 to see how bad it is. 1 being light damage, 6 being "Holy fuck its everywhere"

You settle your gun sights slightly above and to the front of the German Shell. Its chassis seems adjusted for stability, probably for that long and bulky rifle styled anti armor cannon it uses. All around you, other shells are taking targets and infantry is getting into position. You can hear the multitude of clicks and metallic noises as safeties are disengaged and cannons are primed.

"FIRE!"

Infantry charge forward, firing as they go, heavy and light cannons and mortars thunder, spraying soil and severed limbs wherever they land.

You settle your sights as the German Shell stops and turns, light out Wilhelm

You squeeze the trigger and your mech shakes with the heavy concussion as the round flies. You watch through the sights as the German Shell turns and begins bringing its weapon to bear as the round impact in its lower side.

The detonation flings the mech sideways, flaming bits of metal and hydraulics falling around it as steam puffs from the destroyed cooling systems. The metal carcass smolders slightly as the motor spits fitful black smoke before dying. You whoop to yourself, swinging your sights around.

You sweep your sights from the burning wreck of the German shell and bring them to bear on the heavy gun truck as it putters over the hill, a detachment of infantry pouring off the sides and laying prone in the grass. Already their fire is tearing into the exposed flank of your infantry. The Gun trucks linked cannons open up on you

The barrage from the Gun truck puffs up dirt around you, you think a stray bullet might have hit your shield. Maybe. You heave the mass of metal out of the way and bring your cannon to bear on the truck where the crew is desperately reloading. Cool as a polish Spring you settle your sights on the center of the pilots visor and squeeze the trigger

Your mech lurches slightly as you fire, spoiling your aim at the drivers slit. You scowl as you watch through the sights as the men finish reloading the cannons just in time to catch the 6lb shell to the faces.

The entire cannon assembly on the back explodes in a small fireball of shrapnel and pink mist as the men manning the cannon and the cannon itself simply evaporate. The former gunner nest on the back of the Truck is now a smoking ruin of blood and twisted metal. The driver throws the war machine into reverse and quickly backs away over the hill, away from the hellish firepower.

You smirk to yourself, racking a new high explosive shell as you look across the impromptu battlefield. Bodies litter the perimeter of the outpost camp as the rescue team leads the rescued prisoners out through a breach in the barbed wire. Both spider tanks are now burning wrecks. The camp itself burns, the barracks and guard towers smashed to ruin by the rampaging assault Shells. You can see several German soldiers milling about but they seem unwilling to engage.

Dmitris amplified voice echoes out
"Fall back! Fall back! We've got them!"

You turn and beat a quick retreat through the darkened streets as the trucks bearing the wounded and rescued speed by you, taking the men to safehouse to recover and rearm.

As you make your way back through the city you eye the skies as several flights of Attack planes swoop in, searching for survivors of the attack. You and your Squad are long gone.

As you make your way back into the safehouse you can't help but feel pride at the successful raid. Few poles dead, a couple dozen Germans dead. That's a good day to you.

You exit your Shell in the garage and leave it to the capable hands of the mechanics. Being a irregular group you dont really have a job to do, you can come and go as you please.

You take in the praise and handshakes offered by your squadmates as they hop out of their Shells, making their way through the garage towards the makeshift kitchen. One of the grease stained mechanics makes his way over to you, wiping his hands on a rag as he bellows instructions over his shoulder. Up close he is a massive, barrel chested man with a bushy red beard and grease smeared liberally on his face.

"Hello! Hello my friend!"
He shakes your hand boisterously with a bone pulping grip
"I am Aleksi! Chiefest of mechanics here in our lovely home! I hear you did very well in the Blitz! Ah! Takes skill to use one like that! Tell me! How did she handle? Like a dainty maid or a fat cow?"

"Ill tell you what my friend. For testing my new Shell designs, ill gibe you a discount on modifications and new parts! Deal?!" he grins at you like a oil covered bear

You admire the Shell before you, armored yet sleek and powerful. The Tri-linked cannons mounted on the arm allow full gripping and grappling while allowing you to lay down a storm of lead on your opponents. The shield covers the entire chest and upper legs when brought to bear while the edges are ground down to resemble a massive axe. The four sturdy legs are tipped with broad, steel clawed feet with thick rubber treads to ensure it remains steady as it fires.

You look over the intimidating piece of machinery ahead of you and clap Aleksi on the shoulder, grinning ear to ear

"I love it!"
You exclaim happily, looking over the small checklist of features hanging from a post next to the KettenBrecher

"Well my friend! She will need a name if you intend to ride her to victory!"

"The Ottomans are holding Whats left of their Empire. Both the Germans and Russians want their oil but only the Germans get it without a fight. The Brits are having to fight through the north African coast to clear them out. Slow going but they have the best chance of uprooting the sandy fucks." comes another voice

"The Russians aren't devoting much to the war in Europe, mainly just holding their ground while they and the Chinese punch each others teeth out. They've got entire legions of Shells slugging it out every day. Every. Day." says another in a nearly reverential whisper

Built under the bombed out ruins of a warehouse and factory there is a surprising amount of space for the various projects this resistance cell works on. There is a training area complete with a makeshift firing range, A weapons stash where you can snag new equipment, the mech garage and a comms station where you can get missions for yourself if you dont feel like waiting on a raid.

You make your way through the safehouse towards the bunk area. You pull the curtain out of the way and stow your gear in the small nook carved into the wall. You plop onto the cot with relief, kicking your boots off as you nearly instantly drift off to sleep.

For ease of setting Ive folded them into Germany. Spain and France remain mostly free and are a staging ground for the allied attacks while most of mainland Europe is controlled by Germany.

You hurry to catch up with your squadmates from yesterdays raid and manage to catch Mateusz just as he is going through the door to the garage.

"Whats going on?"
You ask, following as he leads you along

"Actually was hoping you would come along. Jakub was part of a night patrol while you were sleeping. He managed to get the drop on a German who got separated from his squad."
He says with a vicious grin, cracking his knuckles.
"Were going to go see what he knows"

You swallow audibly as the sound of a wet heavy impact along with a yelp of pain. You can hear grunts of effort and a furious voice growling out

"Talk! Talk you German dog or ill fry your balls in pig fat!"

Another heavy thud and a whimper of pain followed by a scared voice in German
"I do not know anything! Please! I just got here! I swear!"

Jakubs voice comes again, cold fury
"You'll tell me everything you know or ill peel the meat off your back and let the rats have you"

You come around the corner after Mateusz and have to stop in shock at the sight before you. Jakub is standing before a young german, barely older than a boy, blood coating his knuckles as it drips from the terrified prisoners lips and shattered nose.

The gathered members of your squad nod in greeting as you and Mateusz step into the light, taking your position in the semicircle of men surrounding the terrified German recruit.

Jakub grips the young recruit by the hair, pulling his head back painfully to force him to look directly into his eyes.
"You will talk. There is no question about that my friend. The only thing that will change is how much I have to hurt you before you do."

The recruits eyes open wide as a terrified animals as he begins babbling
"I-I dont know anything! Im- im just a recruit! A conscript! I dont know anything of- Gaaah!!!"

His terrified pleas are cut off by a heavy blow across the jaw that sends a pair of broken teeth skittering across the floor like dice. One bounces off your boot, a small white and red fragment gleaming up at you as a rain of blows impact the Germans face, ribs and groin.

You cross your arms and grit your teeth as Anatoli, a swarthy, red faced man brings forth a small rolling table covered in greasy pliers, hammers and various ripping, tearing and cutting instruments.

Jakub grabs a large pair of pliers with large, jagged serrations in the jaws. He experimentally clacks them a few times in front of the dazed recruits face before slapping sense back into his eyes.

"Now listen my young friend. Everything that is about to happen is your own fault for refusing to speak earlier. Last chance. Anything to tell me?"
Jakub asks softly, gripping the recruits left little finger near the second joint with the heavy pliers.

"Ple-eaaase I dont know anything! I swear-AAAAGGHGGG!!!!"
His terrified plea turns into a scream of agony as his finger is crushed and ripped away by a swift jerk of the pliers. Small strings of flesh dangle from the severed digit as Jakub tosses it away.
"9 to go my friend. Not counting your toes or teeth."

"Youre probably right. But I wont be the one to give a German mercy."

He pulls the pistol from his belt and flips it, offering the butt to you.

His bloodshot eyes weakly focus on you as his head slowly rises, blood trickling down his chin freely.

a scarlet spray paints the wall behind his head as a small hole appears in the center of his forehead. His head twitches several times before dropping down, his chest resting on his chest as blood flows slowly down the wall behind him.

You flip the pistol around, offering it back to Jakub who takes it with a nod, directing several of the other men to

He holsters the pistol and turns on his heel, walking out of the safehouse through the garage.

You make your way through the garage as other men untie the now deceased German and mop up the blood left behind. You pass Shells modified in bizarre and unique ways. One has had its left hand replaced by what appears to be a giant chainsaw while the other contains a nozzle and pilot light indicative of a flamethrower. Another resembles a large spider with long spindly legs and a heavy machine gun mounted under its belly with a 8lb cannon mounted on its back. Several of the assault Shells utilize shields and heavy hammers to bludgeon their way through enemy lines. The autocannons secured to their backs give them the firepower to go toe to toe with more durable Shells.

You eventually settle before White Partisan. You note Aleksi has painted the name in neat letters under the pilots hatch along with a wide streak of white paint down each limb. The Shell is a gleaming example of polish ingenuity.

You lever yourself into the pilots seat, adjusting the knobs and switches to your preference. You note the small toolbox under the seat so you can perform small field repairs.

You seal the hatch, turning the wheel lock to latch the entrance and fire up the engine to White Partisan. The powerful motor growls to life as you slot your feet into the controls and your arms into the gauntlets.

You make your way carefully around the garage floor, getting a feel for the Centaur-like Shells handling. The powerful legs work in unison, never leaving your Shell without a sturdy tripod at any time while it takes a step.

You make your way out of the Garage and into the ruins of the factory above the safehouse. You can see multiple terrains available to practice on.

You approach one of the small mountains of rubble that litter the floor where higher floors of the factory had fallen in during the bombing. Pieces of rebar and jagged concrete poke precariously out. The pile SEEMS stable but you dont know if your activity will set off a small landslide.

You set White Partisans front legs against the pile and shift the weight gingerly forward. The rock puffs dust as several tons of machinery press down on it but the pile remains stable. Encouraged, you hit the throttle and move forward and upward faster. Stray rocks are kicked backwards by the metallic claws, rebar is crushed into U shaped bends. You scale the several story high rubble pile like a massive oversized spider and stand atop the jagged peak like a victorious mountaineer.

Emboldened you tip White Partisan forward, bending the multiple knees for stability as you slide down the rubble pile on a small avalanche of loose stones and rubble. You skid to a stop at the bottom, the massive steel claws at the bottom of White Partisans feet gouging lines in the floor as you take a mental note

You press the firing stud and the Shell around you reverberates as the rocket ignites, flying through the air like a beam of light it crosses the distance in a moment. With a sharp THUD it impacts the rusted out car and immediately ignites into cloud of shrapnel and flame as the warhead explodes.

Once the cloud of toiling flame and smoke dissipates it reveals a neat round hole punched through the door of the car while the remainder of the frame is spread apart like a tin can shot by a tank.

Very impressive.

You smirk to yourself as you run a hand along the prototype Shells interior, adjusting the orientation as you do to look along the walls of the factory. The crumbling upper level calls to you and you smile at the challenge, stomping along toward a fallen support pillar that had torn an impromptu ramp in the ceiling.

You clamber onto it and climb carefully onto the upper level of the Factory, looking out across the pitted and crumbling floor that leads to a rather painful fall. The Numerous stable areas are interposed by the far more numerous places where you can see the floor below through the concrete.

This will be tricky.

Driven by a sudden burst of bravado you gun the throttle, driving White Partisan forward at full speed. Dashing across the unstable floor you adjust the Shell with minute changes to the orientation to keep your weight moving in the way you want.

With a creaking groan the section of floor you are on begins listing and leaning, puffs of dust popping up as the floor begins collapsing under your feet. Gritting your teeth you give a animalistic roar as you adjust the knees of all four of White Partisans legs and the multi ton Shell leaps like a deer, bounding across the collapsing floor like a animal. Every movement is pure instinct on your part as you move from stable area to stable area. You finally come to a skidding, smoking stop on the concrete, long scratches gouged in the floor leading to your feet. You pant in excitement as you listen to the growls of White Partisans engine.

You rev the engine several times, pumping power to the hydraulics before you release the brakes and White Partisan lunges like a panther. The Shells four legs pump in unison, carrying you faster and faster along the production line. You hook a sharp left and barely skid before resuming course, kicking up chips of stone as you go. You notice the configuration of the legs allows them to shift for a more stable position while moving at speed to allow you higher speed without sacrificing your balance.

You hit the throttle in reverse and dig the shield into the ground, spinning yourself around and squealing to a stop as you cheer inside the armored shell. You've never seen a Shell this size move as fast.

You stomp back down the ramp into the hidden garage and park White Partisan in its berth, immediately mechanics swarm it with bottles of grease and containers of water and fuel are poured into their respective tanks.

Aleksi drags himself from the bowels of an Armored truck being converted into a light tank and comes over excitedly

He yells, clapping his oily hands on your shoulders.

You make your way to the comms office which is a mess of radio and telegraph equipment, a small cadre if highly proficient men and women maintain and keep the organized chaos moving.

A young brunette approaches you, a sheaf of tattered papers in her hand

If the charges detonate at the right time, hundreds of German soldiers and Shells, Tanks and trucks will be swallowed by the raging waters. Like all bridges out of the city is is guarded by a squad of German soldiers. You'll have to come up with a plan.

You sling your grenades and LMG over your shoulder, making your way to the armory where Jakub and Anatoli wait for you.

Getting the buckles fastened is awkward but you figure it out and you take note that while your trigger hand is unarmored, the other is encased in a metal gauntlet complete with spiked knuckles. The added weight of this armor will lend heft to your blows. The thick helmet slots down easily over your head and pull back the visor, hooking it out of the way.

You put your jacket back on, slinging your weapons, pack and grenades back onto your body as Jakub and Anatoli finish arming themselves.

Asks Jakub, slotting a massive knife into his belt along with several others

Anatoli works the action of his rifle before slinging it over his shoulder

You make your way out of the safehouse together, looking onto the street carefully before piling in the back of a inconspicuous truck and nearly on top of several bundles of dynamite.

You look around at Jakub and Anatoli as they get comfortable on the long ride
