You’ve just found what can be considered the most disturbing, but painfully relevant catalog ever in your young delinquent life. At least after you were dropped into this magical fantasy land headfirst. And It’s all in this convenient little music box!

Having solved the mystery of the kidnapped an murdered women of the magical city of Prontia, and bringing the sicko responsible with the help of your little partner Charlotte, you managed to discover an even greater, more sinister threat behind it all. This new threat calls themselves “The Twelve” and their objective seems to be to bring this strange new world to heel for their dark master. So far they’ve been responsible for just about all the serious issues plaguing Prontia, from a living biochemical virus weapon being unleashed unto the public through the water supply to the promise of a city-scale attack that guarantees the annihilation of it’s citizens. You have it all right here in the palm of your hands. You were just running to alert the authorities of the terrible future in store for them, but all of a sudden, the device with the message you were bringing them just closed shut. Your a little worried that it won’t play again, now that you need it the most. You will get the damned thing open and running again, or your name isn’t Billy “The Bat” Iwo.

This little box that contains within it all the information necessary to prevent Prontia’s imminent destruction has just turned off and closed shut. How in the world am I going to get it open again?

>Ask Charlotte for a tool or something to pop it open
>Just calm down and try to open it again
>Beat the shit out of it

Delinquent Traits 1.0.1
Theses are the character traits that make you who you are, and with them comes both benefits and drawbacks that are befitting of your brash, trouble-making personality.

>1) Your traits are kept track of through points, a Trait Score, which will rise and fall as you chose your options. Such traits unlock special dialog prompts that are unique to you. Often times it is a high-risk, high reward option that requires a roll for success and other times a bonus just for maintaining it. The modified prompts is not necessarily beneficial or harmful, simply the embodiment of a trait.
>2) Successful rolls will give great benefits in the story, while failures might complicate things. Regardless of success or failure, choosing the modified prompt will cause a gain in points dependent on the situation (+3 or greater), while choosing not to use the prompt given will result in a loss of points (-2).
>3) You may use your points to modify your “Write in” responses with your traits, which will give bonuses to the results if the response is appropriate to those traits, at the cost of (-2) points.
>4) You may modify a response with more than one trait if appropriate for increased chances, and I encourage “Write in” responses, awarding particularly good responses by potentially refunding points spent. You lose this ability for a particular trait if you have a Trait Score of 2 or less.
>5) Higher Trait Scores increase the likelyhood of modified prompts appearing. Lower scores do the opposite. The relative difference in numbers has some affect towards which type of modified prompt is given.
>6) You may burn any of these points on given prompts as well to gain an additional bonus, provided the prompt does not already have the modifier on it already. Spend your points carefully, and try to find a balance, for once a trait score hits 0, your ability to take advantage of that trait is gone forever, having “gone soft.” I will make sure you are aware of the Trait Score values at all times as well as clarify any questions and feedback if necessary.

Hmmm.... popping it open might break it, beating it up will definitely break it...

Try to calmly open it. Hopefully the message didn't auto-erase itself or replace itself with a different message or something. Try seeing if you can get to the proper authorities and the guild, see if they have anyone that can get the message from thr box if this doesn't work.

Alright, maybe all I have to do is calm the fuck down open it again?

You open the top again, and are greeted by the same mechanical voice, and then the voice of "The Sextant" before clicking the switch off and closing it. It's fine, the damn thing just turns off on it's own after a certain amount of time. You hate to admit it, but this is quite the clever device. You continue to approach as Prontia grows larger in the distance and the entrance

Charlotte is waiting patiently for you to figure things out. She wiggles her hips back and forth in anticipation slightly. You imagine her tail would be wagging if it was visible.

Now that you've cleared up how to operate this thing, who should you actually show it to first?

Adventurers guild.

Sure, they're sitting around doing fuck all, but they're still adventurers. And maybe virgin-kuns already organized em. Going to the government would be a shitshow. Going to the morrocks... that's another idea. Either or, really.

>Prontian Guild Hall

You enter Prontia's main gate. It's time the people knew the truth! As you walk through to Prontia guild hall, you notice Virgin-Kun brush past you as he makes his way to the tavern. There is pain and anger in his eyes as he doesn't even acknowledge you. This isn't a good sign.

You bring your box of wonders into the Prontian Guild Hall, stat. Henrietta is still not at her desk. A little worried about your clerk friend after hearing about all of that awful shit, you quickly chat with the middle-aged woman at the desk. She doesn't mind the small talk at all.

"Oh, she's fine, she's just off. Probably asleep by now. You know, that plague that's been reported as a quest has been refined to the southwest, if your concerned about that."

Putting your box down, you explain everything that just happened. About the plague, the conspiracy, the threat of attack from inside the city. The older lady takes it surprisingly well, but has a solemn look in her eye.

"I hate to have to say this again, but the ones you want to talk to about this would be the Prontian Government or the Knights of The Silver Crown. The Guild Halls all have autonomy from their places of residence. At best the Guilds are an organisation of like minded individuals who want to explore and protect the realm. At worst, they're a bunch of glory hogs who are fickle about what they do with themselves. Most of our strongest adventurers that would feel confident to do this sort of thing are out on their own in the more dangerous parts of the world unfortunately. I can't say I'm not worried about this news though. Unfortunately the best I can do for you is what I offered the other young man just a few minutes ago, to have you fill out another quest form about it, or you could take the quest yourself. Remember, we are not responsible for what happens to you."

You have trouble even responding to that answer with how stupid that is. How can an organization meant to protect people not be willing to throw down to defend their turf? They really are just a bunch of glorified mercenaries! Disgusting.

You are baffled by the level of indifference of this place, to think that you've pretty much joined them. It leaves you in a very uncomfortable disposition: Pretty pissed off.

What should I do now? These guys are fucking useless.

It's about time I went to people who I can rely on to give me some kind of help.

Storming off at the lack of decency of the Guild Hall. You take Charlotte with you to the only people who seem to be competent enough to listen and help you. The former head of the Big Brass crime syndicate, Lord James Morrcock Senior.

On the way you are quick to grab Virgin-Kun, just as he was about to turn that corner into the Broken Axle. After a good measure of yelling, you convince him to come with you, pulling him by the scruff of his neck. You aren't about to let this loser go and do his own thing, he's a valuable witness right now.

Charlotte is yawning, struggling to stay awake.
_______________________________________________________________

It's pretty late, but you figure that this is too important to wait till tomorrow right now, you want to make sure Ojisan is okay. Knocking on the door takes a while before someone actually answers the door. Virgin-Kun is nervous about disturbing someone of such high status. You were expecting a servant to answer the door, but it was far from it.

"Who in the hell- Oh is that you Bieri! I wasn't expecting you at such a late our, but if you were interested in going to the bar or somethi-"

"I need to speak with your father, this is really serious. We are all in danger."

She takes a second to pout a little, but seems to grasp the severity of the situation from your ever-earnest face.

"I would, but he's sleeping for the first time in I don't know how long. I will definitely let him know you came for him, but as serious as this sounds, maybe you could come by early tomorrow. We wouldn't be able to do that much depending on the resources we need anyways unless my brother is on board. You understand, right?"

Virgin-Kun acts like himself again

"I..I'll help out too, but I agree with her, we should get some rest"

While you feel this is incredibly urgent, she has a point. It is fucking late. Whatever government building they have here is probably closed anyways if you were even considering going there, not that they'd be happy to hear you out anyways considering what you did to their golden boy Blackwell. Damn, if only I had known sooner.

You all plan to meet back here when the time comes. You will have to plan on how to tackle a viral weapon like the one that has been described. You need to make sure you don't catch it yourself.

>Rolled 84: Unexpected encounter

"This is quite the date you've taken me on, darling."

"Shara?"

Slurring ineptly, you awaken to the voice of your mysterious, promiscuous, brown lady friend. Shara. You are currently at the bar of the Broken Axle. From what you can see it is completely empty, except for you, the barman, and Shara. You are head down, feeling rather disoriented. You can make out the form of Shara, who is sitting next to you. She's gone through yet another costume change, this one seems more honest to her character than the last two. Her hair is pulled back and tied into a ponytail, and she wears a worn mish-mash of an outfit. It is somewhat in tatters, and exposes her midriff, with a pair of shorts to complete the look. She looks like some kind of goddamn raider or something. Strangely enough, it is the least feminine ensemble she has worn. She even has a silly pair of goggles resting on her head. This is the real Shara, you think. Noticing you ogling her as you continue to lay your head down pathetically on the bar counter, she pitches you an offer.

"Would you like another beer, my dear? I'm paying"

She give you a friendly wink as she says this.

...Another what? I'm a minor, I don't drink. That's what you wanted to say, but the words don't come out as you contemplate her coy little rhyme.

She downs her own beer, the whole mug in one go, before turning to you. It seems she is prompting you to speak.

Up until now it may have been below the infection point. There actually is a certain number of virions (virus particles) required in a certain concentration to actually gain a foothold to infect a human body. Our immune systems are brutal motherfuckers but they take between 3-7 days to ramp up to full MotherFucker level. So if there are not enough virus particles in the initial infection the immune response can hit before the virus has a chance to do damage and it will actually provide a mild immunity to reinfection.

The real kicker is when the virus is a double bastard and actually initiates a stronger immune response than is necessary due to its markers architecture and results in the immune system doing more damage than the virus could have.

If we can keep the water RELATIVELY clean, we have a good chance, that is if it works like a straight up non-magical virus. And since only 28 have been confirmed to be victims of the virus in an entire city worth of tainted water. I have a feeling Sextant had no idea about this or expected those 28 ground zero patients to continue to pollute the water or spread the infection through normal vectors.

What we should really do besides issue a boil order on all water is quarantine those that appear to be sick in a way that cannot be healed by magic. Because if only 28 have contracted the illness in the entire city of what I Assume to be hundreds or even thousands, it looks like either he left basically virus boullion cubes at certain points, or he massively underestimated how much of the virus is necessary to give the water a high infection rate, or he intended the infected townspeople to act as unknowing vectors.

Basically we could stamp this shit down by having the healers of the city go door to door and look for a disease they cannot cure and then quarantine the patient and the healer too since they made contact with the infected, and force a boil order on the town, or have the water be supplied by magical means.

No telling how long the virus can lay dormant though, most can only survive a short time outside of a host but some can go decades without one.

We need to find someone of the Virologist Class.

You try to talk, but it's very difficult considering your face down into the counter trying to talk while your disheveled semi-long hair is in your face. Good god, what did I do to myself? Shara acknowledges this and moves you until your back is propped up against the bar and your head lols to the side of you, enough to speak sloppily at least. She doesn't seem to mind your state of sloven drunkeness as she waits for you to try to talk. You would be thankful if you didn't feel like you were casually violated somehow.

"What events led to this?"

"Well..."

She looks away to recollect her memory of what had happened.

"I found you face down in the dirt on the west side of town while I was passing by. I ended up hauling you all the way back here. I needed a break from dragging you here. Then you woke up and challenged me to a drinking contest. I thought you had already stared drinking tonight, but then I finally realized you were actually asleep! I've never seen someone do that before. It was entertaining. Don't worry about money, I'll foot the bill sweetie."

She winks at you as she says this. Looking over the shoulder, there are an ass-load of beer mugs all about the bar counter. Shit man, this is a new low for me, as far as my sleepwalking anyways. She notices that your hair is sticking to your face and gently pushes it back and out of your mouth.

You attempt to talk about the many dangers you've been informed about. Especially the looming threat of infection hanging over everyone's heads.

"...But I guess you already knew about the water poisoning, huh?"

She turns to her empty drink and hesitates a little before answering the question.

"Yeah, there are a good amount of people getting sick. I wonder if it has anything to do with the Demi-Humans living underground. One of their gangs has been really bothersome, not to mention the Brotherhood presence."

She seems to know about the situation over there. Maybe if you could form words well enough, you could get her to elaborate a bit more.

"What's with that oufit?"

"Ehh? What about my oufit?"

She pretends to be upset with you for a second, getting a bit of worry out of you, before breaking down into an odd laugh.

"Kihihihihihi~"

She gives you a slightly perplexed look before answering your question with a strange chuckle. Her laugh has a strange sound and cadence to it, sounding like a hoarse snigger, as if someone was shaking a bottle of sand. It's cute in a weird was

"Out of all the things you saw me in, this is the one you actually said something about? You have a strange taste in women, Billy."

You can feel the effects of the alcohol and your own state of being half-asleep start to take hold. If you want to ask her something important, you'd best ask it now. You might have two more questions left in you.

"Hmmm....Well, the Demi-Humans underground who are infected seem to have an aversion to fire."

That...might end up pretty being pretty helpful. To think, those poor Demi-Humans are being afflicted by the virus like this. looks like you'll have to have Charlotte stock up on flammables.

Ugh. Your head feels fuzzy, and you are feeling the effects of intoxication. Shara has been very ginger in handling you, and it makes you feel kind of funny. You are starting to see her in a whole different light due to the vast amount of alcohol you consumed. Her fairly toned body, her dark complexion, her very easygoing demeanor all are quite quaint. You end up blurting out a word as you lick her with your gaze.

"Yaranaika?"

"Hmmm...?"

Uh oh, she was paying attention. Your honesty will prove to be your downfall in this situation.

"What does that mean, darling?"

Shit.

"It means, Shall we do it?"

Shara looks you over for a long time and creates a silence between the two of you. You feel pretty embarrassed, for saying something so inappropriate.

"Yeah, alright sure."

What, just like that?

"I don't mind if it's you. Your interesting. I like you."

You can't do anything to resist or object as she drags your sorry drunken-ass upstairs and have you at her mercy.

The rest of the night is a bit of a blur, but a memorable one. You end up not sleeping at all, unable to get off of Shara's wild ride, and she does almost all of the work as you "did it" like a champ.

You contemplate the repercussions of having your cherry utterly annihilated by that brown vixen the other night, completely on a whim. You aren't really given the opportunity as a pair of cute little feet step into view as you lie in a heap on the ground.

"Boss! I found you!...Eugh! you smell awful! Are you okay?! I was looking for you last night You were sleep walking again!"

You are thankful that Charlotte doesn't ask where you were or what you did the last night. You can't help but have paranoid feelings as she seems to shoot you dirty looks as your freshening up.

You manage to get a terrible stench out of your everything before getting back on your feet in your room. You have a bit of a hangover, but it is numbed by the mindblowing exercise you went through last night. It's time to head out, but there are a number of things you can do.

You aren't clean. Cleaning yourself off, you spend a good amount of time fixing your hair. Charlotte carefully observes the way you come your hair to get it in that particular style.

You are refreshed and a little more calmed down. Time to get to work.

Henrietta is at the desk to greet you, and upon your request, happily hands over the 1000G that was promised as payment for the quest.

This is a good development, considering you were in desperate need of money. Now it is time to go take a visit to Morrcock Construction. You will have to meet with Ojisan and his son to discuss the premonition of things to come from the box you had been given.

Making it to the Morrcock Construction Company, you are let in without any incident by the guards, who graciously lead you all the way up after noticing the big ring on your finger.

You land yourself back in the office of he young James Morrcock Junior. The is currently signing papers of importance with a guard by his side. Ojisan and his daughter are standing nearby with mellow looks on their faces. The must have discussed the urgency of the situation with James. As you approach, he stops signing, puts his hands in front of his face and puts his elbows on the desk as he leans forward.

"I was told you want to talk. Let's talk business."

I mean, really, we just had a fling with her. That doesn't mean we're waifu locked to her. Though I am a bit miffed that this was apparently Billy's first time and how he was blasting out Virgin-kun despite him being one himself.

There is a serious tone that hangs in the air as you stand in a lavish office, occupied by you, your underling, Charlotte, and the heads of Prontia's most prolific crime family. It would seem that the man in charge, James Morrcock, had been informed about the the severity of the plague that had been unleashed.

James looks you over, noticing the his family's personal ring on your finger. He looks at his father inquisitively, and then resumes addressing you.

"It would seem that you have already been initiated into "our thing" under extraordinary circumstances, in which I begrudgingly acknowledge you. However, we are beset on all sides with increasingly more dreadful threats and I cannot turn away a powerful ally, even if I have a disagreement."

James stands up from his chair, turning to the excellent view of the rest of the city. It is still very early, the sun seems to just be coming over the horizon of the city buildings out in the distance.

"I am the head of this family. It is my obligation to dictate how things are done. In that same vein, I must protect my own interests as well. You will come to know this, as you are effectively apart of this business."

"Where are you going with this?"

He's beating around the bush.

"This plague outbreak is very dangerous, of course, but by the rate it spreads from the other side of town, it is a non-factor to me at the moment. I am more concerned about the threat of my immediate enemy at large, which is currently the Unbreakable Brotherhood. I am very interested in what they are doing, since their acts of terror have come to reach my domain. "

Turning back to face you, he approaches, stopping an arms length away from you.

"I can offer the resources to help you with the the plague issue, but you have to do something for me in return. You must do this for me first before I give you the resources to deal with this illness. I need you to do as I had originally planned for you to do when you fist came here, to go investigate the Unbreakable Brotherhood on the West side of the city. This needs to be done today before we continue. Do we have a deal?"

He extends his hand out to you for the second time. He could be a powerful ally, but of course he wants things done on his own damned terms. You look him over, chewing on your answer inside.

>>
>>1935919
Yeah, that being said I like Shara but I want to give Billy more time for himself, training Charlotte, and tackling all these problems Billy is throwing himself into.
>>1935922
Hmm I want to be honest with him but I'm not sure what's the best way to approach this.

I can agree to work together for now but I know in the future Billy and this guys interests will conflict. We all like the Oji-san he's a great guy, out of respect for him we ally with his family to help out since we can't do it alone and they do try to make a difference even if we find them shady. However Billy will butt heads eventually and nothing will change that and we need to make it clear to him to not take it personally, we have our own code and way of doing things.

That's how I feel but I'm not sure how to express this as a write in.

You really don't like this blonde, money-hungry jerk, but you absolutely need his support in the coming few days.

You shake his hand, making sure to give him a hard, manly grip. He smiles, finally getting what he wants.

"Excellent, Mr. Iwo. I was certain you'd finally come around. Come with me to the game room. There is much to discuss."

He starts to head out. Before you go with him to discuss strategy, Ojisan pulls you to the side first.

"While I would prefer the plague be dealt with over the Brotherhood, he has reason to be wary of them. Please, if you do as James wishes, he will reward you with his support, just as I have. I trust you with the safety of Prontia, son. Don't let us down."

You take the word of advice to heart as you head down the stairs into the "Game room."

___________________________________

You end up in a large room containing all sorts of trophies, nik-naks and relics. In the center of the room, there is a table with little wooden pieces. There are a bunch of brass "M" shaped pieces, a couple silver chess-like pieces, and a whole ass-load of red colored little men in a loose semi-circle. The board resembles the City of Prontia. Virgin-Kun is already waiting for you here. He acknowledges your entrance as you walk in. It seems like he's already come to an agreement with Lord James and they were just waiting for your decision. James looks at you both to address you.

Charlotte is sitting down to listen, kicking her little feet while they hang off as she does.

"As you can see, I've been following the movements of my enemy. The have pooled their resources into creating a perimeter around the west side of Prontia. My men cannot cross, since they attack them on site. I need men who could go in without being harassed to investigate their machinations."

He picks up a red piece before continuing.

"There have been several reports about large amounts of common, ferrous materials being taken by them. I am concerned by the sheer mass of steel they've been acquiring, it wouldn't make sense unless they are using it to create something. There is magic afoot. It is likely someone is forging magical weapons, since their raids have been led by pillagers wielding magic flaming swords. I fear they are going to make something far more dangerous soon. I simply need you to go there and investigate. You must not start a ruckus and potentially accelerate their plans. I need a simple report and for you to get it back to me by the end of the day. Do you understand, boys?"

"Yes"

"Yeah, got it."

"Good, I expect you to a message back to me before the end of the day."

So there are other threats as well? How could something like this be so far above everyone's heads? I had tried to speak with the government apparently, but as soon as I mentioned your name, they wanted nothing to do with me. Same with the Silver Crown. They really hate your guts."

As you are discussing the details of what is going on, there is a nobleman surrounded by guards. He gets in your way before you are able to do anything.

"I am looking for a "Bieri". The Prontian Council has a message for him."

You glower at the misuse of your name, before you explode at this random-ass messenger, you motion for Charlotte to get the message for you. She reads it over quickly.

"It's a summons. For your arraignment boss. It's at noon"

Oh god! Fuck me. Those bastards at the court still have to formally charge you for your assault of Blackwell. This day is becoming convoluted already. You might not have time to get everything you had wanted to get done.

What did you have on the list today anyways? You will probably have to drop doing one of those things if you planned on getting all this shit done yourself. You have time this morning, at noon, evening, and the late evening, going by estimates on how long everything is going to take.

You look at your unassuming little demi-human friend. She stares back at you with those big, dark, amber eyes.

You decide that you're partner is going to be a big help to you with all the sneaking around you'll have to do. She should be able to do a good job since she's a "Rogue", albeit one that concerns themselves with scavenging and haggling items rather than sneaking about. You'll have to make sure she's fully prepared to carry out the observation work before you go past enemy lines.

Virgin-Kun steps up, noticing that you are sizing up your underling.

"Let me come with you, I want to uncover whatever the Brotherhood has planned, if not for that shifty guy, then for the good of Prontia."

He talks a good game, maybe he could make himself useful?

You tell him to meet you at the Guild Hall in the evening, so that you could figure out a way to integrate this guy into your plan while prepping Charlotte. You can't be everywhere at once, so having him as an extra set of eyes and ears will be good while you loiter around the base. He nods and heads back to do his own business beforehand.

Now that that is that, you crumple the subpoena the people of the court issued you. It's time that you get a move-on. You'll need to really focus on Charlotte's training. You head back to the Guild Hall's back courtyard to prepare Charlotte, discussing the details of the plan with her.

DC 50: Rolled 91 - Good job little girl

Compared to the other day, Charlotte's performance was just as good for the basic calisthenics routine. Afterwards you focus on her awareness and smarts, considering her agility is unreliably poor, going by her ID card anyways. You blindfold her and have her rotate herself around Shinbatsu while her head is touching the knob, causing her to become very dizzy. You send her out to navigate the little wood behind the Guild Hall while you approach from the side of it to get to a random location far from her starting position to supplant yourself. Now you'll have her try to move around and figure out how to find you without her using her eyes. It's not the best method, but if she can learn to notice when something close to her without looking by using her 6th sense, she won't get snuck up on so easily

You trudge out into the wood. She is definitely struggling at first, bumping into trees and shit and falling over as you pass by her to find a good hiding spot. Now you are far out of sight, it's time to begin. You'll have to shout a little bit to give her fair enough clues to your location. Hollering to her, you give her the signal to begin.

Ten minutes in, you start to get a little worried about her. You yell to help her find you by the sound of your voice.

"CHARLOTTE!!! I MIGHT GIVE YOU SOMETHING TASTY IF YOU COME AND FIND ME IN UNDER AN HOUR"

There is a silence as your voice travels across the woods to her fuzzy little ears.

"YES BOSS!"

...It's been about 25 minutes since you started. You can just faintly hear her plodding around the woods, fairly far away from you still. Now you're just getting impatient with the little walking marshmallow.

"IF YOU DON'T GET YOUR CHUNKY LITTLE ASS OVER HERE RIGHT NOW, I'M GONNA SPANK THE SHIT OUT OF IT AGAIN!!!! AND THIS TIME IT'LL BE ON PURPOSE!!!!"

There is no response this time. Instead you can hear the rustling through the forest quite clearly now. It is much more frantic after that threat.

Not long after that, the little girl sniffs you out, with her nose in the air as she walks around, far more sure-footed than she did before. Alright, She found you.

"Ya got me. Good job."

"Yay me!"

She celebrates a little, licking her lips and rubbing her tummy as she imagines her reward like the fatty she is.

Considering the distance between the two of you and her stubby legs, this was done at a very impressive speed. Time to make good on your word and reward her.

She seems to realize after only a little while after that she could use her other senses to help her, such as her big fluffy ears and keen sense of smell to find you. Charlotte is only a little banged up from walking into stuff at the beginning, having dramatically honed her kinesthetic senses to avoid bumping into shit, and using your personal scent and her hearing ability to find you. Hopefully she's able to use this later.

I did it! I found the boss! It was pretty hard though. I kept hitting my head into trees or something for a while and tripping at the beginning. I think I might have a bump on my forehead, but my hat is covering it at least. I had never realized I could use nose for more than appraisal and finding food! Smelling the air, Bieri is behind me now as I skip triumphantly into the Guild Hall, he has a nice smell, except for that time earlier this morning, Yuck! Oh well, time to eat! The Boss said he will give me a treat after if I follow my diet. He said I've been doing such a good job getting stronger, he trusts me enough to let me go to the food court on my own without supervision. The boss finally noticed me!

There is an awful pain in my tummy as I see all the food laid out. I'm super hungry! Ugh...

I was good this morning while the boss wasn't around and I didn't cheat when I had the chance. Now I'm hankering for something sweet! Looking back, the Boss has already dozed off, head resting on the table. I guess he didn't get any sleep. I wonder what he was doing last night? My papa always told me "Nothing good happens after midnight". It makes me a little suspicious...

My tummy hurts so bad, and all of the creamy, sugary stuff is out. No matter how much I clean my my mouth with the back of my wrist, I can't get the drool off. I don't know if I can stop myself this time. Boss is asleep, he won't notice if I jus - No I have to stay strong. Gotta eat more meat!

DC 50: Rolled 67 - I did it!

I fill up my plate quickly. The longer I stay here, the harder it will be to resist! Piling on the vegetables and steak, I can't stop my eyes from watering up as my belly makes lots of angry noises. I think...I think this is the first time I've ever denied my tummy what it wanted. Maybe I can just take a single sample from the bakery...

No! I have to resist. I'm gonna get big and strong like Bieri and I have to stop being such a pig all the time and learn some self-control! This accursed animal hunger I've been saddled with is no excuse to not become strong. I need discipline too!

I cry as I eat my meat and my veggies. I can't help it due to feeling withdrawal from not eating any sugary stuff. Ugh. Gotta push myself to resist the siren call of dessert.

I'll just sit here until the boss wakes up. I can do this! I can follow through with this diet!

____________________________________

"FUCK!!!"

I shout throughout the guild hall as I wake up, turning a lot of heads in the process, having almost lost my balance after passing out. Too bad these limp-wristed faggots are too afraid of me to tell me to shut the hell up. Whatever. Works for me.

I had fallen asleep earlier and I was sitting in a very...interesting position.

For starters. I had taken up an entire row worth of chairs taken up by myself. My back was stupidly straight, spine perfectly aligned with the center of the goddamn earth, making my neck immune to pain. Finally my legs were spread as wide as possible for maximum comfort. It feels like I was doing the most obnoxious split in history and had woken up as I had just begun to finally lose my balance.

I straighten myself up as if nothing had happened. At least I wasn't sleepwalking again. Alright, let's see if I regret my decision to let Charlotte try to handle herself with this whole diet thing.

Looking her over, she has a mellow look on her face as she sits down complacently. Well look at that! she only has one plate, rather than stacking a whole bunch of them taller than she is. According to her, she only had thirds this time. Wow that's pretty good! For her anyways. Time to reward her for doing so well again today.

...

WHAAAT!?!!! She claims she doesn't want dessert! She refused my offer to get her some cake or some sugary shit. She started spouting some bullshit about "Self-control is it's own reward" after somehow resisting the siren call of dessert. Un-fucking-believable!!!!!

I smash my foot with Shinbatsu. Yup, this is not a dream...and I think I lost the top part of the nail on my big toe. This diet is going really fucking well. Much better than expected! I need to give myself a pat on the back for doing such a damned good job.

It's about an hour before the arraignment begins. I've talked to Charlotte about the proceedings while getting ready. There are a couple of little rules she was able to learn, having studied a law book she had gotten when we went to the Bazaar to get supplies to make my new bat.

1) Going by what Charlotte said, it seems to be similar to a standard court case, in which representatives of the plaintiff and the defendant are responsible for submitting evidence and proving their disposition to a jury of unbiased individuals while a judge presides over the proceedings.

2) You are allowed to switch your personal representative with the permission of the judge and the parties involved doing the switching. Might be useful if I can find a real law man to help.

3) I have to pick three witnesses to speak on my behalf. I'll have to be careful with whom I choose for this one.

There are a few others, but I don't need to know them right now.

It's about time that I head over to the Prontian Court. It's a large white building with a stone dove flying over the entrance as a decoration. You have to shoulder through a bunch of people to find your way in. They murmur as you walk through the crowd. There are a lot of fucking people here.

Well, time to receive my sentence, I'll have to let Charlotte speak for me and keep my mouth shut. I might blurt out shit that will work against me with how much I fucking love the truth. This won't be to bad, they're just going to charge you for a crime you feel is completely unnecessary.

You style your hair so that you at least look good while you get arraigned. Whelp, here goes nothing!

Getting into the Court, you notice that even after entering the building, there are a lot of fucking people around. From adventurers, to the Morrcock's personal family guards, to the ordinary common citizen, a whole fat load of them are here to see the man who put their beloved Knight Captain into traction for a whole goddamned week. You can hear them all talking about all sorts of speculation, voicing their concerns, worrying about Ser Blackwell, and calling you an ogre behind your back.

The courtroom is large, with several podiums and tables, much like the standard fair for a court of legal proceedings, just much more archaic. You sit down at the designated defendant seat as Prontian guards reside over you. Charlotte sits next to you. The judge residing over the court is someone you'd expect, a large, balding boorish looking older man with a big beard. His voice doesn't really carry as he reads through the dossier, attempting to get everyone in the court to stop talking among themselves and settle down. There is no microphone here to enhance his voice

"All please rise. I would like to begin the arraigning of the accused: Mr. Bieri sa Bato Iwo"

You curse in your mind hearing that. Nobody else seems to as you sit there twiddling your thumbs, waiting for this shit to be over with. The people surrounding the courtroom continue to talk over the proceedings. It's too fucking loud and your foot hurts. You want to go back to the Guild Hall.

This courtroom setting makes you want to lose your shit.

>DC 70: Rolled 100 - I'll put the fear of god into them

The crowd stays incredibly loud and obnoxious as you attempt to be charged for your heinous act of not actually giving a fuck. It is very annoying. Ever since you got to this shitty world, the majority of its inhabitants have been rude and incredibly fucking stupid. Thinking about it fills you with rage. You glance over to the opposite podium, where there is a single representative for the Knights of the Silver Crown. That's it, no hide nor hair of the bastard who ended up dragging you here in the first place. Fuck that guy, at least have the courtesy to show up for our goddamned trial. You wish that motherfucker was here so you could strangle him, wasting your time while there's shit to be done, like saving the city or finding a way to get home. It pisses you off. Your thoughts are being drowned out by the white noise of nosy, good-for-nothing citizens who should be hiding, too ignorant to realize the dangers that are very real and lurk around the corner. FUCK, I can't help but start getting rilled up by fucking EVERYTHING. It feels like I'm going to explode.

You really want to yell and scream, they probably want you to so they can hear the voice of the madman who knocked the living shit out of the head of their law enforcement. No, you can't allow them the satisfaction. You won't give them what they want. Stay in control, let it fester.

I feel the anger wash over me. I can barely control it as I hold on to my senses. The crowd has quieted down. They gawk at me with their eyes, glassy, wanting to know the guilty man who stands on trial. How fucking rude and inconsiderate of them. They way they look at me like I'm a caged animal in a zoo. I just want to be left alone. Fuck this shit. Fuck Blackwell. Fuck this Trial. Fuck all of them. It's enough to make a man want to...want to...

KIIIILLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!

Everything fades into red as the crowd disappears.

___________________________________________________________________________________

Oh no! the Boss got super duper mad! I can see the aura of red that surrounds him, his steel blue eyes now a colorless white as he glares and bares his teeth like a feral animal. I thought I was supposed to be the beastly one! Oh gosh, I hope he doesn't yell...

...

Hmm? he should have started screaming like normal, but he just stands there. The crowd is silent, all of them are scared. Like, super scared! I can practically smell the soiled pants from here. Some of them slowly back away as they see the terrifying visage of the boss. Even the members of the court are trying to look away from the scene. I hope this doesn't affect the hearing at all! The sound of someone falling down fills the courtroom, near the opened entrance.

"By Prontus...he really is an ogre...."

"Tis no Ogre, That be a demon!"

"THE RUMORS ARE TRUE!!!! RUN SAVE YOURSELVES!!!"

"AAAAIIIIIIIIIEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!"

Oh my gosh! The whole crowd is trampling over themselves to get away! I mean, the boss is absolutely terrifying, but he's not a demon or an ogre, he's just...the strongest! Yeah, that's it! The people who live in Prontia sure are superstitious. I'm a little scared too, but I try rubbing his leg so he can calm down a little. I hope this works! I don't wanna get spanked again.

__________________________________________________________

The red clout clears up and I'm able to see straight again. I look to face the crowd to finally tell them to all fuck off so we could all get back to the trial, but there's nobody there. The large mass of people who were hovering at the entrance to the courtroom is now gone. There's not a soul left. Did I...?

You know what, fuck it, let's get this show on the road over here.

Turning to the judge, he has his papers and documents in front of his face. Looks like you spooked him too! That's pretty funny since you weren't even facing this way. Huh, even the Prontian guard is on edge. The lot of them have their weapons drawn on you. Oh well, it's about time we got this over with though, this charade has gone on long enough. Fixing your hair and facing the judge, you respectfully try to catalyze the legal process.

"Your honor, if you could please continue with the proceedings."

"...Erm...uh, y-yes, of course...T-thank you."

He seems just as confused as you are that there are suddenly no more people spectating the trial.

"All please rise. I would like to begin the arraigning of the accused: Mr. Bieri sa Bato Iwo."

Finally!

This is Prontian Southern Provincial Court case number 14-008957248...

You tune the old man out. It's going to be really fucking boring just waiting here. Charlotte has dressed up for this, incredibly enough. She's wearing a little skirt and an expensive looking jacket.

..."The defendant is represented by Miss Charlotte Marchette du LaFra...

She seems to have a lot of money. I wonder if her family is well-to-do or something. It looks nice on her, except for the fact she's still wearing that silly hat to cover up her ears, and also the fact she has the build of a little girl shaped like a potato. I wonder what she did with her tail? Hmmm...she frowns and gives me a look of urgency. I guess I need to pay attention. I pick my ear as the judge is finishing, having stopped caring long ago. I have bigger fish to fry.

"...The defendant is charged with several felonious charges:
...One count of Aggravated Assault against a Captain of the Peace, 3rd Degree...
...One count of Attempted Murder...
...Three counts of Obstruction of Justice...
...One count of Treason..."

Fuck, they really hammered you with whatever they could tack on. Half of that shit is all because that bastard Blackwell has a high standing in this shitty township.

"...and 6 counts of Disturbing the Peace...."

Hey, I am not THAT fucking loud, there is no way all those people heard me, this is bullshit.

You keep your mouth shut so that you may let your tiny lawyer handle it. She has a cool enough head to be more qualified to bail you out right now. In these types of scenarios, you ruin everything you touch.

Charlotte stands up on the podium to speak. The fact that she only barely clears the top with her eyes is not a good sign. You'll need to get her a stool or something so she can be heard better when the courtroom is actually filled with people. Fortunately, the only sounds right now are several scribes scratching on parchment to report the proceedings of the trial in triplicate. Her husky, slightly different dialect carries through the courtroom.

"The defendant pleads not guilty on all charges, your honor...We request a copy of the legal dossier regarding the nature of the charges, on the account of the fact that my client is indeed a foreigner."

The judge motions to one of the guards, who walk over the paperwork to Charlotte, giving her no trouble about it, thankfully. She's pretty good at this!

"Then at this current time, the scheduling for the trial will be two days from now, at the 12th hour, at the noon. Court dismissed."

_________________________________________

The arraignment is over, the two of you stay in the courtroom as Charlotte reads over the literature they gave us. Damn, this is serious, you really need to do something about this shit.

"Boss, it says here you can start submitting evidence to the court for your trial two days from now. You can also start putting in names of witnesses."

Hmmm, come to think of it I have a couple of things I could submit as evidence on my person right now. I'd better be careful, I might miss the opportunity to later, Charlotte says the rules for discovery mean that I can't submit shit the day before the first full courtroom hearing. Shit, I really need to get this done ASAP.

As for evidence, I currently have:

>My own Guild ID Card, proof of my name being spelled correctly so it could be pronounced correctly
>That fucking box. That Sixth Seat guy's logs will be excellent evidence
>The receipt that the guild gave me for putting Rembrandt away
>See if Charlotte has anything.

As for names, I wonder who I should put down, I only have 3 openings for witnesses. They can be witnesses of character or witnesses of the actual scene. I should be careful who I lock into these witness positions. It might be best if I don't fill them all out yet and come back tomorrow.

>See if Charlotte has anything.

Ugh, this is not going to be easy. I have a lots of option, but I really need to figure out the one's that are relevant. to the case.

It's too bad you don't have some kind of proof that you killed the Kuukarache Queen creature. Other than that, that box will certainly make for some really strong evidence. This whole case seems to be on the basis that your name was mispronounced. You might be able to come up with a good argument, considering your countrymen are renown worldwide for their politeness. Getting someone's name wrong is definitely considered particularly offensive. On that same vein, you wonder if the court would consider letting you go on a huge technicality of your name being said wrong. Hmmmmm...Glancing over at your ID, there is a minor change. Whoa! Your name was amended to be more accurate! It now reads "William "Billy the Bat" Iwo." At least it kept your damn moniker. Fucking magical driver's licenses.

You consider the options as far as witnesses, Lord Morrcock might be a good witness of character for you, he can certainly vouch for you as one of the men who run this town. On the other hand, you wonder if his past as the king of the mobsters in this city will be an issue. Henrietta likes you, she might be able to talk good on your behalf. Shara is...Shara. Charlotte was actually present on the scene, and your adorable little sidekick would never betray you. You ponder whether or not if she has anything else to help your case on her person...

"Charlotte, is this all the evidence we actually have?"

"..."

She seems to be thinking hard on something like she can't put her finger on it.

"Oh!"

Her little mouth makes the sound while curling into an 'O' shape before she rummages through her ridiculous magical sack. She seems to be going through a compartment you didn't even realize was there the last time you looked. This is quite suspenseful for you. as your leg becomes a little restless while waiting.

"I almost forgot I took this earlier! Maybe it will help?"

"Oh shit!"

The brown bag she pulls out is opened to reveal a humanoid head. It's the head of the larges Kuukarache monster you slew. Incredible! While you were knocked out after the finishing blow, Charlotte must have decapitated it or recovered the head after it was killed. You never got a great look at its face when fighting in that forest. It has mostly feminine, humanoid features, but with pitch black eyes and an abhorrent insectoid mandible. This is pretty fucking significant. I might be able to prove what happened that night and clear up a lot of questions as I prove it was me who killed that freaky experiment.

I still have to figure out what I'm going to use for this trial.

You take the monster's head in your own hands by it's long, matted hair. You probably could have gotten a reward for this considering they sent a whole team of knights to go kill it. It's not important now, you need to clear your name. At least you'll get the recognition you'll deserve.

Alright, time to enlighten this marshmallow on the proper enunciation of your name.

"Charlotte, I want you to read my name and start using it the way it's supposed to be pronounced."

You hand her the ID and point out the name column. She takes a long time staring at it before saying anything.

"But...but...I like Bieri better!"

her eyes moisten as she explains herself. Good god almighty! You grasp your chest as you stave off stress-induced heart failure. This kid is going to be the death of you with her spontaneous crying fits!

"B-Bierianni Chocolate Souffle is my favorite! It's the bes*hic*best dessert in LaFra ever! I don't wanna call you Billy!"

You are trying to take her seriously as she boldly ignores your wishes, but it's difficult as her mild meltdown is punctuated by her tongue darting out around her lips after the mention of her favorite food.

How will you handle this?

Aww geez she's getting all choked up again, over something fairly trivial. Just call me by my damned name already!

You let out a weighty sigh, You just want people to get your name right. This little goon really has attached some sentimental shit to the name she imagined was correct. Goddamn it. It looks like the best option would be to compromise, which is really not your preference, but for now, you'll make an exception. Charlotte just about deserves it for how hard she's been trying to help you to help herself. Lowering yourself down to her level, you explain what you're going to do.

Her crocodile tears immediately stop as she takes in what you just said.

"Y-You really mean that?! I can keep calling you Bieri...Even though you get super mad when people get your name wrong!?!

She is unsure of herself after being given the privilege of calling you a nickname other than the one that is your preference. You break eye contact and answer her bewilderment with a half-hearted annoyance.

"Yeah yeah, you can call me by that name. Don't get the wrong idea, you're still my underling, understand? It's not like I like you or anything...and don't let me hear you using that name in public anymore, or else I'm gonna spank you again. You only get to call me that when we're alone. Got it?"

"Yes, Bier- I mean Banchou Billy!"

She has an uncharacteristically large smile on her face after that. This kid...her hero worship of you is flattering, but kind of annoying at the same time. The inner conflict makes you feel weird.

After going through the list of names in your head, this sounds like the most logical option. You don't really know Virgin-Kun that well, and god forbid your sex life ends up having light shed on it if Shara is here to testify as a witness. I'll go fill out those forms in a hot minute. I'm gonna bring the little girl, the guild clerk, and the old man in as witnesses.

As for Charlotte, you can't really think of any names for the girl with the fuzzy ears and big appetite that won't make fun of her chubbiness or animal qualities. You call her Lottie already sometimes anyways, right? It's not heroic or anything, but it will work for now.

"Alright Charlotte, I'll call you Lottie for short. How's that?"

"Yes! All of the day Boss!"

Ugh, thank goodness. You find dealing with her stressful. You hope one day she's able to act her age. It makes you wonder why she's so immature about this kind of stuff, but that is for another time. It's time to submit that evidence and get that paperwork out of the way. You need to start preparing for this stealth mission. Specifically Lottie over here. It's a little more than an hour afternoon. I have time to work.

How are you going to prepare the little girl for the mission, not to mention yourself?

While figuring out whether or not you should get started on planning early a great plan dawns on you: I can have Charlotte go out and supply herself, and I'll start to strategize with Virgin-Kun. He probably knows more about Prontia than you, so his input would be helpful, while Charlotte can do the thing she's best at-
shopping. Your only concern is that Charlotte might miss out on some of the critical information about the plan, considering the amount of time it will take to buy some stuff and come back and finish the plan before we begin the infiltration. You'd have to rely on Charlotte's ability to figure everything out on her own when you give her the more brief version of the strategy.

You weigh your options as far as benefits and drawbacks go.

You decide to follow the excellent tactical saying "ploys before toys" as far as tackling this undercover mission. Perhaps you will have the time to acquire some neat trinkets before you begin.

Time to head back to the Guild Hall.

____________________________________________________________________

After entering the GuildHall, you are greeted by Henrietta. As you make some quick small talk, you are able to find Virgin-Kun in the common area. He seems to be looking at a large piece of parchment on his own, deep in thought. You waste no time in making your way over there. Charlotte grabs something from the food court area before joining you, or rather a lot of things. Fortunately, they are not sweets. You acknowledge your armored associate, prepared to begin planning your investigation of the west side and its largest faction, The Unbreakable Brotherhood.

"You got anything for me?"

Your query does not go unanswered. The kid has some material for you to go over with him. At least he's more competent here than he is at wooing the ladies.

"I have a map of Prontia so we can take a look on the west side. I've been down there myself on patrol, as slummy as it normally is. I'm sure there have probably been some changes, especially if the Brotherhood has gone from a large nuisance to almost completely in control of that side of town. There are a couple of points of interest we should probably go over.

You allow Virgin-Kun to go over what he knows about the area. There are a couple of interesting points about the west side you end up remembering for the sake of a viable strategy.

1) There is a perimeter set up, as you were already aware, that acts as a toll before letting individuals in. There seem to have been reports about people going in and very few reports of people leaving.

2) The Brotherhood is in control of most of the places on the west side. They often are doing whatever the heck they want while their around, between patroling, partying, and bullying the populous.

3) In the South-East quadrant of the west side of Prontia, there is a large blind-spot which makes up the point in which underground sewage system interconnects the most in the city. The Brotherhood and everyone else avoids that area, between the spread of the plague and the bogeyman known as Clan 13, which resides there.

4) If what James says is true, and something is being done behind the scenes, it would most likely be done at the stadium, where the Prontians used to race horses before gang control, the popular tavern "The Rosey Squatter", or the sister lake to the one on the east side on the outskirts of town. It's very quiet over there.

>Cont.
>>
>>1941715
Time to make a strategy. We should have all meet up somewhere at around 11:00PM. That should give us all enough time to investigate. The deeper we go into the west side of town, the heavier the security will be, until you get to the lake I guess. The mapping out of the area helps you come up with some ideas.

How should we go in?
I need to figure who is going in and how as far as the perimeter is concerned.
>Let's just all go in together, to not raise suspicion. We'll break after the coast is clear
>I can consider having someone heading to the Rendezvous to make sure the coast is clear and lay low until we meet
>It might be a good idea to split up

Lotte will be the first to go in. Her purpose is to be our Scout, going in long before everyone else so she can check out which place has the most suspicious activity.
One she has found the most suspect place, she is to set a fire near the area where the Brotherhood territory ends, and the Clan 13 territory starts. This should create a distraction that let's Billy and V-kun to explore Lotte's selected area with ease.
Once we are done gathering info, we make our way to the lake and get the fuck out.

Depends on how magic and all works in this setting, but medieval city fires could get really out of hand in our world.

Seeing how we're trying not to get fucked over by the law at the moment I'm not entirely sure burning down half the town will help our cause.

Otherwise om ok with the plan, maybe we could figure out another type of distraction.
>>
>>1941889
>Perfect Plan
Woah there buster, you seem to put a lot of faith in our little potato, but I'm really questioning how she will be able to pull all this off.
Does she even have the ability to go across town, and back in a reasonable about of time? It seems like you want her to do that several times over, which given her stubby little legs I find doudt full.
There is also the part when you expect her to set fire to random peoples homes, one big enough to draw the attention of these goons who are known to be very low on morals to start with. Do you think our sweets loving pal has the mental fortitude to deal with that, or the possiblity of the fire getting outta hand, and possibly killing alot of people?
Finally didn't that blonde bastard want us to go in and out without making any noise. It may be a clever idea to pin the damage caused on the Clan 13 guys, but that is still a violation of the man's orders that may bite us in the ass later.
All that being said, I have no ideas on how to pull this off myself, and this seems to be the only plan available right now, so unless something better comes along I will Support this.
>>
We need a distraction that ideally isn't fire.
>>1941872
Does Charlotte have any gadgets that could produce a lot of smoke without actually setting fire to anything?

If there is a lot of smoke there will be loads of eyeballs going in that direction trying to figure out what is burning. In the mean time we could sneak in.
>>
>>1941994
Oh geez you might be right, the fire is a bit overkill.

Perfect Plan.

It just hit you. A plan that is sure to work! I'll send Charlotte to scout the area first and figure out which one is the most suspicious. Then she can move to the Clan 13 Territory and start a fire nearby while the Virgin and I get on the scene of suspicion. Once we gather all the information we need, we'll head to the lake and get the hell out.
The Perfect Plan.

You explain your plan to the others so that you may enlighten them on how we're gonna get in there and get out.

"It's not a terrible plan...I think there are a few issues though."

"T-that's a lot of ground to cover. I don't know if I can sneak around that fast."

Virgin-Kun and the little super-spy-to-be have some concerns about your idea.

"That is a lot of ground for one person to cover, and while making a distraction is a good idea, I don't know if starting a fire in the area the Brotherhood probably cares about the least is going to be a good idea. Maybe lighting up somewhere important to them would make for a better distraction. I'm not sure if they use the race-track, but they certainly love that Tavern. It's a really big and important place. I hear they have a stage that the Brotherhood's leader has orders given from every so often."

"Boss, how will I let you guys know when and where we have to meet up? If I have to come all the way to get you guys, I definitely won't have enough time to look everywhere, I think."

They raise some good points. Charlotte snooping around, in particular, would be difficult if she has to cover everywhere herself. Perhaps me and Virgin-Kun need to be on site on the west side? We could look around for suspicious areas ourselves and potentially have Charlotte investigate it. How would we communicate then? This might be a little harder than I thought.

...Or these little turds are just giving me a hard time with their belly-aching. It is the perfect plan after all.

Ask Charlotte if she has something that makes a lot of smoke but doesn't set stuff on fire, if so use that instead of arson.
>>
>>1942120
I've we're going in when its dark, we probably wont see it. I'd suggest either an inconspicuous, but identifiable visual signal or some sort of noise and call sign. Our Pop was military right? Lets bust out that good ol US Strategy.

Personally voting for signal lanterns. Easy to set up and take down.
>>
>>1942087
Also maybe we could find some lone gang member we could intimidate into telling us where stuff is.
>>
>>1942087
My brain is fried probably because I've been spending my day trying to beat cuphead so any idea I have is next to worthless for the next few hours. Maybe target the tavern and make it look like the clan 13 guys did it? Or drag some clan 13 guys over to the tavern on a goose chase?

As for communication, the answer I can think of would be some kind of magic... Or some kind of flare.

I really just need to rest my head and think after an hour or something. I legit am having a difficult time putting the situation together in my head.
>>
>>1942087
Hmm well we can still fix the plan.
Maybe we can bring one of the homeless kids from before.
As for Lotte not being able to cover any ground we will just have to all go in. Lotte takes the race track, while V-kun takes the Tavern. We meet back at night fall and go for the most suspicious place out of the two. The place that is less suspicious we have the orphan set the smoke distraction as we all go for the more suspect location. When we find enough info we head to the lake and fuck off.

>Maybe we can bring one of the homeless kids from before.

You think about this plan a little deeper. Maybe I could use some of my more tried and true skills to get some answers. Intimidating a gangster or two might yield some results.

"That sounds like a good idea, Boss!"

"Well...You could definitely intimidate someone for certain. We would just have to be very careful about letting them get away afterward. You'd have to knock them out or tie them up or something to prevent them from blowing our cover."

Eh...It's worth a shot. You'll have to hope the unlucky goon you decide to scare the crap out of knows something useful.

"Is there any way we could get something to use as a distraction?"

"Ooo! I have something like that! It's really loud too! I might need more than one though..."

You wonder what your old man would do. The old man was a goddamn SEAL, he would know something about sneaking around. Hmmm....

"What about some lantern signals?"

Your father was adept in morse code thanks to his training, not that he used it much with the technology available to him. You happen to have picked it up well enough to teach if you could have some kind of appropriate light source. Or you could just get some kind of lantern to mark stuff or something.

"I..I can probably find something at the marketplace to improvise for that."

"I just hope you can teach us the signals in time, and that it's enough to be able to communicate."

It doesn't sound like a bad way to communicate. It's just too bad you didn't have some of that bullshit-box technology from that mechanical freak that could be used to communicate.

I'm going to have to keep tossing ideas around until I hatch the perfect scheme to carry out to find out what the fuck those Brotherhood guys are doing. Maybe I can get someone else's help on short notice? Maybe one of those street urchins will help out if I offer to feed them. Hmmm....

>We will use some kind of lantern signals to communicate our intentions so we can operate separately
>Have Charlotte Scout out the entire area all by herself
>Once she searches around undercover, it will be her job to identify the biggest points of interest
>After that, she will create a distraction all the way towards the Clan 13 territory, to draw attention away from You and Virgin-Kun. She says she has something for that
>You are considering messing up a member of the Brotherhood to gain any information while you wait
>Next the two of you will meet up at the place Charlotte indicates to further investigate the area
>Finally, once you finish the investigation, you will all meet up at the lake on the outskirts of the west side, and then leave by going around back to the northern gate

Virgin-Kun and Charlotte have both voiced their concerns. You've addressed a few of them, but Little Lottie is afraid she won't be able to handle visiting all the locations in one night and investigate thoroughly, and Virgin Kun is worried that the Brotherhood might not respond if the distraction to gain there attention is too close to Clan 13 territory.

You are still brainstorming to try to figure out some other stuff you can do to make the mission a successful one. Have to decide on whether this will be enough or not.

All 3 members of the party do recon on the points of interest (Lotte sneaking around the stadium, V-kun and Billy, wearing a disguise, check out the Tavern.)

The final rendezvous point will be at the lake on the outskirts of the west side, and then leave by going around back to the northern gate

>The team regroups at sunset and choose thr best location to scope out at night. V-kun and Billy will go to the best place to do an investigation, while Lotte sets up the trap in the other place.
>The final rendezvous point will be at the lake on the outskirts of the west side, and then leave by going around back to the northern gate

It seems your plan is all mapped out after some brainstorming, you'll just have to figure out the best point of approach for Lottie to take to cover everything at a reasonable speed. which should be possible considering the Rosey Squatter is much farther than the other points of interest. Other than that, you just need to get some supplies together and make sure everyone knows the signals.

Are you sure this is what you want to do?

It's about damned time to execute this plan.

"Lottie, let's get the supplies!"

"Yes Boss!!"

The three of you head over to the Bazaar while it's still just the beginning of the evening. You were able to rush in there and grab a couple of things, mostly on Charlotte's tab, because she's the one who was needing to be equipped.

Fortunately, the little girl already had a few items prepared to be used for such an occasion. Namely, the big distraction was some kind of medieval fireworks that are normally used as a distress flare. The big rocket looks pretty dangerous to use.

All of you had gotten disguises, as much as you'd like to keep your spiffy Banchou pants on, everybody seems to have an idea of who you are. These rags will do the trick.

Charlotte seems to have acquired some kind of sneaking suit. She claims she got it for a very good deal and it's enchanted to increase stealthiness. You wonder if that is actually true or not, or if she just wanted to look cool. But hey, at least it blends into the darkness of night. She will be hard to see between her own small size and this suit under her disguise. It would be nice to see any of the girls you've met around here to wear a skin-tight cat suit, but not the one shaped like a goddamned potato. She only takes a few things with her, in a backup backpack that isn't nearly as big as her for once. What she makes up for in actual sneaking skills, she will make up for with equipment. You guess.

Virgin-Kun, Charlotte and you have disguised yourselves as impoverished folk, considering the west side is some kind of magical projects. Hopefully, nobody recognizes you now. You take some time to teach the other two the signals. You will keep in touch with each other every hour, so you have to be outside by then to confirm you each got the message. Charlotte has gotten you some lanterns made in the same process as those torches she used a while ago. Bright, flashy, and able to create a beacon when necessary. How convenient.

"Does everyone know the plan?"

"Yes sir!"

"Look alive, It's Showtime."

With that all out of the way, it's time to begin your scouring of the West Side.

Heading west past the church bring you to a large blockade after a while. It is made out of all sorts of junk. As you walk towards it you notice many of the Prontian Guard's number are stationed nearby. They seem to wait for the Brotherhood to make a move from behind their little wall. Heading to what seems to be a door in an inconspicuous manner, you knock on what vaguely looks like a door. Charlotte and Virgin-Kun are at your side, a little tense as you are greeted by men swathed in red robes and garb. It is an uncouth mismatch that one would expect from the Unbreakable Brotherhood.

It's 50G per person. No coin, no entry."

These lowlifes are just looking to make a quick buck off of you. You really wish you weren't wearing a disguise so these shitheads could know who the fuck you are! It's difficult to contain your anger and fork over the money.

It physically hurts you to go into your wallet and pay him the 150G. At least you had gotten paid earlier from James. You make sure to take a good look at the bastard who is subjecting you to highway robbery, his particular outfit, and his light brown eyes. You'll make sure to beat the cash out of him later if you happen to see him under different circumstances.

Charlotte has a look on her face as she sees your hard earned money get taken from you in this way.

___________________________________________________

Walking into the west side is like a whole nother world compared to the posh eastern and northern provinces. It looks like a dump. There are garbage-fire like shit everywhere, and a bunch of homeless motherfuckers around them. Ratty looking children chase each other around, despite the hour with no parent supervision. Most of all, those Brotherhood guys are all over the place, walking about as if they run the place. Everybody seems ruddy, dirty and have mostly tawny skin as well. What a damn shame.

The tavern is not that far away. Taking the opportunity, you block Charlotte in a nearby alleyway to cover her. You take the opportunity to check the lanterns to see if they'll work. It casts a bright yellow beam into the dark night sky when you open up the lantern. Excellent. Moments later, she is in the little sneaking suit and is squirreling through the darkness of town. She's heading towards the stadium first.

That's your cue to hit the tavern up. It's hard to say you'll enjoy mixing business with pleasure trying to blend in, but if necessary, you must.

Virgin-Kun stays outside for the first hour to take watch first. The two of you will switch off to make sure you don't miss any signals.

Heading inside the huge tavern, you are greeted with the sound of bawdy tunes and idle chatter. A vast majority of the customers are Brotherhood boys, and they are all pretty drunk. The only open seats are at the bar and by the big stage, which has a runway. Otherwise, you'll have to sit shoulder to shoulder with members of the Brotherhood. You better move quickly, people are starting to stare.

Where are you going to sit?

>Only a few bodies sitting at the stage right now. I'll go there

Sitting down at the bar feels about right. Most of the dudes there don't want to be bothered. It would be a good chance to blend in without drawing too much attention to yourself.

Sitting down, you are next to two members of the Brotherhood. Neither of them looks like good company, and they give you dirty looks as you sit next to them.

Dammit, I really didn't want to draw attention to myself right now. These assholes are going to ruin my whole damned day.

FUCK.

It tears you up inside to see people who don't know who the fuck you are. You know you wouldn't have to put up with this shit if you weren't in disguise. Reputation can get you pretty damn far alone.

These fucking assholes are trying your goddamn patience with their nasty little sneers. It seems like a friend of one of the patrons has come up. The men that surround you are all pretty big guys, hard and grizzled. It seems like they want you to move so their friend can join them. The one on your right is about to ask you to move...That's it asshole. Look into my eyes man. I'll show you how to really be hard and scary.

"Look, buddy, if you aren't going to order a drink at the bar, leave so one of my boys can sit here. You ain't even one of us. You might want to leave before your night gets a little ugl-..."

He stops completely as he gazes into your pissed off face. You let your steel blue eyes penetrate his soul as you try to light him on fire with the sheer power of your malcontent anger.

His friend attempts to shake him out of his fearful stupor before getting a gander of your terrifying visage.

"Get. Out."

The two of them leave immediately. They didn't need to be told twice. You turn to the other guy to your left. He puts his hands up like he's about to be arrested.

"You...Buy me a fucking drink before I lose my shit."

DC 65: Rolled 100 - AAIIIIEEEE!!!!!!!

I'm doing it! I'm really doing it! I sure wish Mr. Bieri was here to see this! Now I just have to avoid looking down...

This is bad! I shouldn't have come all the way up here, even though there's a bunch of bad guys smoking stuff down there. I made it past the other guys pretty easily. Did I really need to climb all the way up here? I can't believe I'm shimming across this clothesline to try to get to the other building just to avoid those guys. I should have just stuck to squeezing my tummy and my bottom through the buildings. It was way less terrifying than this. I...I'm okay. I'll make it across. I just have to not look down...

Charlotte did indeed look down. Her fearful hesitation was enough for the already weighed down clothesline she attempted to climb across to avoid the Brotherhood to break, sending her swinging. She screamed out loud as she swung like a sick jungle-man from the end she held onto, through a window of a residence and out through another window in the back. The little girl was sent careening through the air at a very high angle. Instead of being splattered like an old, ripe potato on the streets, she had managed to catch on a very fortunate bedsheet. It was massive enough to form as a makeshift parachute so that she didn't meet a terrible end as flying-raccoon-girl-roadkill on the city streets of the west side of Prontia, where most likely her plentiful carcass would likely be eaten by rats and very hungry residents in short order. She managed to stop screaming and drift steadily towards the stadium quickly in a strange but favorable twist of fate.

The men from the brotherhood who had partaken in unsavory acts below were slightly stirred at the chain of events.

"Did any of you just hear something?"

"BRO!!! I AM SO HIGH RIGHT NOW!!!!"

"Ehh...What the fuck was that!?!"

You had just come out to switch places with Virgin-Kun, but there was this girlish shriek that manages to makes it's way to your ears from far away. Damn, it sounds like some unlucky girl got attacked or something.

As much as you'd like to help, there are more pressing matters. Charlotte had given the signal just a little while ago that she was about 2/3rds of the way to the stadium...."She thinks..." According to Virgin-Kun anyways.

Whatever, things seem to be going well at least. I haven't seen anything so far, but apparently, they are going to start an announcement for the goons in the tavern in an hour or so. Afterwards there going to have some festivities. Some kinda show or something.

Ehh...Is that??

Oh joy. It's that asshole from before at the gate. The one friend he had with him is just leaving now. I wonder if this is a good opportunity to get a refund? And maybe some info on the side too. I'm raring to go over there, but I also don't want to blow our cover. He is alone and out of the way. It won't take me that much time to take this fucker out so I definitely won't miss the next signals Hmmm....

DAMMIT!!

Kicking the shit out of some random rubble only barely makes me feel any better, wait...rubble? Looking around, there is a lot of broken pieces of houses and trash around here. Many of these buildings are in terrible condition. I wonder what's happened to this damn place?

You try to settle down as you sit on a dilapidated bench nearby. Fuck. This sneaking shit is hard as fuck, you just want to bust their heads wide open right about now, regardless of their supposed numbers. It would let off some stress in regards to this shitty trial. You wonder if you're going to be able to absolve yourself. There's a dreaded inside you feeling that the courtroom might be in favor of the lawmen. You try to contemplate everything as you look for Charlotte's next message. There's a tune that fills the air as you contemplate where you went so wrong in life. It sounds like a crappy, bluesy guitar or something, right next to you.

*Ba-dum da-Dum*

The music trails off as the strange man clad in black next to you finishes his little diddy by strumming on his guitar. It leaves the chilly night air that much colder.

There's a strange man singing and playing a guitar-like instrument next to you. You find this a little unnerving, thinking that you were sitting on this bench alone. It's an older gentleman. He wears a large, circular hat with a wide brim that covers up his features in the night. He's an older man, with gray hair and a wrinkly, blemished face. He turns to you, having completed his strange little song. His smile is all kinds of fucked up with his crooked, off-white teeth.

"Don't be alarmed boy, it's just an old folk tune."

His voice is a low, but golden baritone that is soothing to the ear. There is an odd drawl to his words as he speaks to you.

"Who the hell are you? Old man?"

You shoot back at him rudely for having interrupted your quiet reflection, still being caught off guard by his presence.

"I'm Doctor Corvus. A traveler of sorts. It's been quite a while since I've been in Prontia. Lord Almighty! Has she seen better days! I've never seen the place so tore up in all my years."

Who is this weird? All of a sudden he's started a conversation with you too.

"Look pal, I'm really busy right now. I'm not interested in discussing the sorry state of this dump."

"Now now, You shouldn't brush off a stranger so easily my friend. Especially when you've become so famous around these parts..."

He must be mistaking you for someone else. You're in disguise, after all.

"...Isn't that right? William my boy?"

You have a bad feeling. The strangest people you've met in this world all seem to know your name and how to say it.

This guy is making you worried with his knowledge. He hasn't done anything threatening though....Yet.

"How do you know who I am? Especially since I'm in disguise?"

"Come on boy. Everybody around here knows about the ogre that came to Prontia."

Makes sense, you are a little famous after interacting with the citizens here with varying levels of lashing out.

"...And you ain't foolin' no one with that sad excuse for a disguise. At least anybody with a half a brain."

You aren't sure whether to be offended or not as the dark man takes a jab at your disguise. Or maybe he's talking about the intelligence of the general population? It's hard to know for sure.

"Listen here boy, I'm not here to beat around the bush. As you are painfully aware, you have a court date in the next 2 days. Now I reckon your hands are quite full, trying to figure out how the hell you're gonna get out of this one?"

You can't really argue with this Corvus fellow when he's right. Shit.

"When I heard about what you were doing for the city, such as getting rid of that serial killer and all, I figured I just had to help you out. I've been looking for you, and now that I've found you, I wanted to make you an offer knowing about your situation. I wanted to offer my services to you."

"In what way, old man?"

"I wanted to offer to represent you in court. I feel like it's the least I could do, considering your predicament. Now I don't claim to be a lawman, but I know quite a bit about how this place is run..."

So what? What does this guy have over Charlotte as far as being able to litigate?

"...And I certainly know Captain Blackwell, better than most. I assure you I can get Ser Blackwell to drop your charges, but only if you let me represent you."

Well shit. That would sound like a pretty good deal if it wasn't from some creepo stranger. On the other hand, maybe it would be a good idea to take some of the responsibility off of Charlotte. You don't know if it's a good idea to have her represent you as well as act as a witness.

Should I take this guy up on his offer? I've really got nothing to lose at this point.

There is a silence in the dark, fire-lit streets as the doctor mulls over the question. His otherwise pleasant demeanor is interrupted by your prying.

"I suppose it's safe to say that we're in the same boat, you and I. The honorable Ser Blackwell has wronged me, and not long ago. It would be a mighty fine day for me to get back at such a big ego for stiffing me. The knight captain begged me to heal them when there was no one else that could. Now that fool refuses to repay me for helping them. I know that Blackwell would be rather upset if I were to help you go free during your trial."

...He rubs you the wrong way, but he seems to have a something against that asshole as well. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, right?

Either way, this guy seems to have Blackwell's kryptonite or something. Any help for this trial coming up could prove to be vital so they don't lock you up for god knows how long. It's still a tough decision whether to trust this guy or not.

He offers his hand to you. There is an awkward pause as you hesitate to shake his hand.

"Come on son, it's not gonna shake itself."

You shake his hand in agreement to his proposal. You hope that you won't come to regret it. Doctor Corvus has a smile from ear to ear on the account of you accepting his offer.

"Hey Doctor Corvus, how about a drink, on me? I just need to be out here for a few more minutes."

"That would be a mighty fine idea, son. I could use a nice drink to warm up these old bones. You can just call me Doc, by the way. It's easier on the tongue"

The good doctor goes back to his strumming and humming while you focus on the task at hand: Looking skywards for the next signal that Charlotte puts out. She should be reporting her finding soon enough. Then you and Virgin-kun will switch places again in a little bit, and you'll be back on the inside of the Tavern with a new friend.

I finally made it to the stadium. It's huge!!! And also completely pulverized!!!

I only was able to look around a little bit so far, and I haven't been able to find anything yet. I have to really give this place a thorough look before I send another message to Bieri. Oh gosh, I hope that I'm able to find something! If there isn't anything around here or the tavern, the only place left would be at the lake or near the Clan 13 territory. That place sounds super dangerous, I don't want to have to look there!

I wonder what happened here to make it look so beat up though...maybe I'll be able to figure it out if I look at the busted up parts?

DC 65: Rolled 93 - I know what happened, I think...

I wasn't really able to find anything that was very telling yet, like something that would threaten Prontia. After taking a look at the craters and broken bodies in them, there was definitely something big that happened here. Pieces of metal are embedded all over and the ground on the race-track has been smashed into rubble, and the stadium's walls are in utter disarray, with big chunks missing. I've picked up some kind of picture that was just barely still identifiable., but it's hard to identify what it is since I've never seen anything like it. It's still really hard to identify what did this, but it was really dangerous, like the sky itself fell to the ground, or some kind of gang of giants rampaged around here. I haven't found anything worth note, but I have to keep looking! This has to be the work of some kind of projectile weapon. But from where were they firing? And how were they able to create something that can cause this?...I have to keep searching! I'll have to take a look to see if I can find anything in the south-west quadrant of Prontia, but I think the lake might be involved too. I'll show what I found to Bieri when we meet up.

Things aren't looking too hot now. Charlotte has just gotten back to me through our lantern-code, and I was able to understand her message well enough, being able to see the bright light split the sky. These bastards might have a weapon that can threaten the city, but going by the uncertain description, it's too hard to dictate what exactly that weapon is. Charlotte wants to meet at the lake as soon as she creates a distraction. She says she's going to take a brief look around the Clan 13 territory, to see if she can see anything since she's making such good time and nothing to show for it. I hope she knows what she's doing.

Now it's time for me to take position in the Rosey Squatter. I brush past Virgin-Kun, who says that they're about to start some kind of rally. I buy the old man a drink. He ends up having probably the hardest thing at the bar. Typical old man behavior.

It's time for me to sit down again. Where should I sit?

>I gotta get close to the stage. I don't want to miss this.

You guys do realize, Corvus is Latin for Crow right.... He just got done singing about a mythical crowman that gives you a favor, a promise of a future, and then you have to repay that favor when the time comes or he drags you away to basically hell.

He is going to drag Blackwell into hell essentially, and we just agreed to let him do it.
>>
>>1950133
to be fair blackwell is a shitmonger and the brotherhood he works for is not only hilariously corrupt to the point of allowing massive plague bullshit run by the demon kings minions, but he approves of this shit. fuck him, fuck him right to hell, let the crowman collect his meat.
>>
>>1950133
Yeah. He is kind of on the deserving end of this. A man must be held to his promises. Otherwise he's a liar and a coward. And that is something Billy cannot abide.

Personally, I hope he drags him to hell in public.
Like "Blackwell, it is time for you to pay your debt!" or something equally as pants-shittingly terrifying to the general populace.

>Tell the good doctor that we came here to hear what is to be said from the horse's mouth. We will be back shortly, but we need to here this.

"I'm going to sit by the stage, Doc. Gotta hear what is gonna be said straight from the horse's mouth."

He raises his drink in the air to you and winks, letting you know he's just fine hanging out at the bar.

"Fine by me son, enjoy yourself."

Heading down to the stage, you are able to see two guys talking something over as the seats begin to fill up. Finding a place to sit is easy, you only have to give these fuckers one look and they make more than enough room for you to after remembering what you did to the other two guys. Time to learn what the fuck is going on.

One of the men leave, and a single, dark-skinned speaker, draped in slightly higher quality clothes than the rest of these goons on the stage. He speaks in a loud voice that fills up the spacious tavern.

"Welcome brothers. As you all know, thanks to the contributions and sacrifices we have made under our new leader, we will finally be able to rectify Prontia's sickness - It's governing arm. For far too long, we have hidden in the shadows as those in charge continue to betray us by allying themselves with third parties rather than sharing their wealth with the common man. Each of them appalling in their own profligate ways. The indolent Guild, which hands over our hard-earned assets to foreigners and wannabe heroes. Our longtime rivals, the Magnum Aes, who have oppressed us for far too long with their influence over the city, using their underhanded trade methods to extract income from the common man. And finally, our newest and most dangerous foe, who has recently gone back on their own word to defend us, the Order of the Silver Crown, a group of foreign origin that attempts to make themselves our judge, jury, and executioner. All of these enemies will fall soon enough, my brothers! Thanks to the nascent visions of our master made real by our own hands, we have found the strength to finally bring Prontia back to whom it really belongs: THE PEOPLE!!!"

There is a massive uproar by the patrons on all sides of you as the tavern erupts in cheer. The situation grows ever direr, it seems. You'll have to keep listening to see where these crazy bastards are going with this. Hopefully, you can get some really helpful information out of it.

The speaker waves his hands over the now roused audience to get another word in for all his brothers to hear. The crowd eventually calms down, ready to be further energized by their hypeman's demagoguery.

"Even now we prepare our forces! In just two more days we shall begin our march to victory. With our new terrible weapons, we will rain down destruction upon our foes. None of them shall be able to stop our attacks as our men flood the city streets in red with the blood of our enemies. Thanks to our newly envisioned future, we will break down the corrupt government who continues to hand over everything we believe in to the hands of scoundrels and barbarians!! At the break of dawn, we shall strike!!! we can finally charge all who have wronged us with their lies. Our beautiful city will be purged in fire and steel!!!!!"

Another roar from the crowd. Damn, these zealots aren't fucking around. They really are going to destroy this city. Is this what James has been hearing rumors about?

After the tavern settles down enough for the speaker to address the crowd once again, a dancing tune begins to play that quickens the settling brotherhood goons.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8JNoKzsa6Y

Torches are lit along the stage as the last part of the speech is completed.

"To celebrate our tremendous accomplishment, we have festivities for those that have decided to join us today. Our lovely dancers have come to entertain and tantalize our most deserving guests. Even the most magnanimous Red Lady has graced us with her presence. Let us enjoy this night as we prepare to take back our home!"

The final cheer quickly becomes many whoops and whistles as a whole troupe of beautiful, young women quickly emerge from behind the stage as the music follows them. Their skin is brown, like most of the inhabitants of this part of town and their features are hidden by delicate veils, leaving only striking eyes highlighted by a smattering of makeup. They are clad in silken outfits that both emphasize their curves and leave little to the imagination as well as flow to the rhythm of the footwork they have begun. All of the Brotherhood is immediately enraptured by the stellar performance, even your miserable attitude is enough to prevent your hormones from getting you excited by the festivities. Their dance is as agile as it is sensual, punctuated with isolated hip movement, quick steps, and some clever spinning. It is difficult not to admire their skill, this dance was certainly made to get the blood of men pumping. Looking around, you see some of the ladies drifting off of the stage and to the seated onlookers, doing their thing. They do not object to the touch of the more bold members of the audience, some of them even grinding on some very lucky guys.

Shit man! You didn't come here to see some fantasy stripper-dancers tantalize everyone here! You are about to leave when all of a sudden the tavern becomes more like an oven as the heat rises drastically.

"And now for our most popular entertainer, a miracle from Prontus himself!!! The Red Lady!!!!!"

Catcall whistles fill the air as the virility-charged cheering continues to grow, and then settle down so the performer can strut her stuff.

Out from behind the curtain on top of the stage, there is a long, shapely, leg that appears from behind. They weren't kidding when they called her "Red Lady," her skin is actually fucking red! It travels the length of the curtain teasingly, drawing want from the rest of the large crowd.

Nobody seems to give a flying fuck that the woman behind the curtain doesn't even seem to be human! Not to mention that this tavern turned into a sauna for no reason all of a sudden. You need to get out of here. This heat is sapping your strength! Just before you're able to summon the power to get up and leave the disembodied leg's owner appears from behind the curtain and the room jumps up another fifty degrees. The other girls are all gone now as you look around the room. All eyes are on her.

The first thing you notice about this Red Lady, other than her deep crimson skin is her incredible height, she has to be at least as tall as you are! It only enhances her tremendous presence on the stage as she slowly steps out into the spotlight to initiate her dance. The music follows her slow pace as she begins moving her hips and walk down the long stage. You can't tell if your mind is playing tricks on you in this strange heat, but her form seems to flicker as she advances forward slowly.

Her shock of thick, pure white hair is tied in a large braid, which swishes along with the rest of the dangling parts of her almost sheer outfit. The golden color of her jewelry clasped around her limbs brings out her red coloring. She picks up the pace, moving the perfect balance between feminine curvature and toned fitness that is her body.

Meanwhile, your throat becomes parched and your mouth cracks from the dryness caused by this rising temperature. It's starting to exhaust you as you have little choice but to keep watching the searing performance. Lord have mercy! If this goes on...

The red woman is full blown twerking about as she flits to one side of the stage to another, putting on a show for all the men present. Using the poles that hold the torches and create ambiance, the dancer swings on them much like some kind of pole-dancer, clearly showing she is a cut above the rest in experience and skill. She drops from her perch to dance among the patrons of the Rosey Squatter, rewarding these terrorists for their hard work with her close proximity. It is then that her eyes meet with yours.

You are immediately overwhelmed the depth of her inhuman gaze. the white of her eyes are black instead, and her irises match her skin tone. It makes your mind go numb as you fight to maintain control of yourself as you are being slowly cooked

Roll to fight the heat! Best of five.

DC 70: Rolled 94 - ORYAA!

ORYAA!

You try to shout, but nothing comes out of your dehydrated throat. Nonetheless, you are able to steel yourself as the burning sensation continues. It isn't so bad, until the Red Lady sashays her way over to you!

You were just about to get up and leave, having found the strength in your legs somehow, when you are gently pushed back down unto your ass, the crimson arm that does so drags along your chest. It engulfs your very soul with warmth on contact. You don't know what's going on anymore as you continue to fight against this heat! You are certain you will be able to get through this alive, but physically getting up will be difficult now that this dangerous lady looms over you. Looking up now that she's close lets you see her unsettling visage that much clearer in this haze.

Jutting from her upper forehead are two long, curved black horns that shoot upwards. Her mouth and is still covered by her veil, but those dark eyes sure aren't. You seem to get lost in them as they swirl with abyssal dimensions. Strangely enough, you do not feel your mind being penetrated by a pair of magic mind control eyes. They swirl and coalesce into something far more sinister. The woman has pointed ears and long black nails on her fingers which take her even further from humanity. And people of Prontia called you a demon!

She is doing all sorts of shit to turn you on or something as she dances in close proximity. You remain steadfast as she wiggles her exceptional booty inches from your face and dances around you. The other patrons encourage her by clapping to the beat, which grows ever faster. You hold on as the pressure builds up in your brain, able to stay awake. The Red Lady seems to notice and tries to change it by caressing your cheek.

I've gotten used to this heat, I just have to push a little harder...

Roll to resist again. Best of five.

DC 65: Rolled 78 - I can't lose to a thot like this!

Urgh...That touch was white hot. All of a sudden she is caressing your body. You don't physically burn, but it certainly smolders underneath the skin. Fortunately, you are able to resist, but only because you were able to get your bearings before she waltzed over here to try to oppress you with even more of this insane fiery power.

It would seem a few caresses was not enough for her, she now proceeds to scald your innards with a scorching lapdance of sorts. Under normal circumstances, you would be completely unopposed to this treatment as a guy. This is too much, however. The more she continues these lewd acts, the more my body seems to suffer.

I have to get this wild slut off of me! I have no choice but to force her off. Sweating hard as I prepare myself to touch the red flesh around her exposed midriff, there is a struggle to lift my arms up to get a grip on her body. At first it is a real challenge to even touch her to avoid the strangely pleasant burning that destroys my resolve with every passing moment. Gripping her supple flesh feels more like touching a hot stove as the stimulation travels through me. It doesn't help when she grabs my arms with her hands as I hold her by her hips. She still is grinding on my junk as I force her off sending and unbelievable heat through my lower-half, filling me with fear.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!!!!!!

With an incredible display of sheer willpower, I manage to get her off of me and stop her from violating me with her burning touch. Having mostly lost control of my body, I fall to the floor, catching myself with my hands. If I hadn't been fast to try to act like I did this time, things might have really gone south.

Begone Thot!

It's too late to celebrate. I'm on the floor right now on my hands and knees. A pair of broiling arms wrapping around my torso from above forces me into action. With the rest of my strength, I make a break for it outside as the crowd continues to cheer and laugh at everything unfolding. I close my eyes as I dash straight through the door Drowning them out, cool air eventually hits my skin, relieving me of the feverish pressure upon me. I made it out, alive and okay.

What the fuck was that?

"Are you alright?"

You look up to see Virgin-Kun, looking down at you with concern after clambering out of the Rosey Squatter. You had just escaped from a rather dangerous encounter with the appropriately named "Red Lady" which has left you on the ground a sweating mess just a little bit outside the tavern.

Quickly realizing the humiliating state you've been put into, you straighten yourself up and give Virgin-Kun an angry look to save face as you slouch and put your hand in your pockets.

"I am just fucking peachy. Any news yet?"

"Yes, in fact. Your little friend just put up the signal that she's getting into position at the far end of town. The south end."

Clan 13 territory huh? You hope Charlotte is going to be okay. Virgin-Kun looks at you with some worry still on his face.

"What happened in there? We haven't been compromised, have we?"

"Of course not, idiot. Just do everyone a favor and stay the hell away from the stage."

>DC 75: Rolled 77 - That was close!

Heavy footsteps bounce off of the decrepit buildings as I wedge myself in a tight spot in between the very closely constructed housing. I have to suck in my tummy to fit, but I manage, I just hope I'm able to get out afterward! I don't think whatever is coming would be able to reach me where I am, let alone notice me in this darkness. I hold my breath as the person I'm hiding from approaches.

My vision is pretty good in the dark, but it was still difficult to see what exactly passed through the empty streets adjacent to my hiding spot. Its silhouette was large, lumbering and definitely not human. It's footsteps are heavy and it has a fairly long neck and a protruding face.

It's so scary!!! I could have sworn it turned it's head and noticed me here in my tight hiding spot, but it didn't do anything other than going back to whatever it was doing and keep on walking. The stench fades after a little while as I try to keep my sneaking suit in pristine condition on the inside. Letting out a sigh of relief, I attempt to leave my hiding spot and move to find a new one before I get the distraction ready. Moving my body proves difficult as I try my best to suck in my tummy again...Uhh oh...I think I'm stuck!

>Cont.
>>
>>1952129

My spine is still tingling from that thing I saw walking through the streets. It was scary! I thought I was a goner for sure. I'm surprised it didn't want to eat me, the last time I talked to something that big and brawny, it said I looked "delicious"...Even if that was a joke, it sure made me feel like I could have been eaten not long ago.

After managing to somehow get my head back in the game, I had taken a look around the area that was supposed to be under the ownership of "Clan 13". I see nothing but broken down buildings and some rotting bodies lying around the area. Mostly those Brotherhood guys. Yuck!

I have to set up these explosive flares here somewhere. It's supposed to be easy, but I have a lot of them. They are set on a conjoined, very long fuse. Gotta make sure they all fire off at the same time straight up into the air and that I get out of the way in time. Don't want to get blown up too!

Here goes nothing!

>DC 65: Rolled 62 - Uh-oh!

I did what I was supposed to do correctly, even though these flare bombs didn't come with a stand to set them up. Doing my best, I manage to get all ten of them hooked up using the nearby rubble. After lighting them all up with my handy little cinder stick, I scurry away after pushing it a few times to get a small burning cinder to light the fuse.

I hide behind a nearby ruin, in the direction of the lake so I can make my get-away. Everything is going fine, that is until one of the rockets falls off of its perch and rolls on the ground.

"Oh no!"

I make a break for it. I don't want to be here when that thing goes off, it's dangerous!

You had attempted to get in touch with Doc Corvus after running out of the tavern, but all you found was a little note saying to meet him at the courthouse in the morning to discuss the proceedings of the trial. At least that crazy woman has left the Rosey Squatter. You head back out and are greeted with tremendous noise and flash.

There is a series of resounding blasts that resounds through the city from high above its citizen's heads. All of the Unbreakable Brotherhood patrons that were partying and getting drunk in the Rosey Squatter are now running out to investigate the multicolored blasts that hang in the sky. Aer those fucking fireworks?

"It comes from the South! we cannot afford to be caught off guard brothers! Not now!"

They are clearly concerned with making sure their plans are executed without a hitch. Not everyone is sure what's going on at all. Plenty of ordinary citizens are running around screaming like chickens without a head as the sky bursts into flames.

"This is quite the distraction."

Virgin-Kun comments on the detonations while looking up into the night sky, which has all but stopped lighting up with thunderous explosions.

"Enough gawking, let's go."

They two of you run out and farther to the westmost part of town. This was your cue to head to the lake.

Oh gosh. Oh no! This could be really bad. My ears hurt from being so close to where that rogue bomb shot off and I'm struggling to see from the big flash that went off nearby. It would have been way worse if I was even closer, I might have actually been burned or something! I stumble through the city as fast as my legs can take me to get away. I can hear the voices of all the people I disturbed. They are all getting closer! Footsteps are hitting the ground all over the place, I can feel them nearby!. I really hope nobody notices me while I head to the west lake to meet with the others. I can't let Bieri down now!

Roll to Charlotte one more time. Best of three.

DC 60: Rolled 82 - I remembered my training, the basics of sneaking!...I hope it was enough.

I remembered what Bieri had taught me earlier about using my other sense to find my way. It is super hard, but using the smelly stink of the south-west part of Prontia, I am able to orient myself westward. It's difficult to smell over the burning aftermath of the flare-bombs. I am fortunate the distraction went off for the most part. I only end up bumping into something once, but I continue undeterred until the terrible sewage smell is gone and I'm almost all the way out of Prontia. My senses are returning to me finally as the smell of waterside reaches my nose. I'm gonna make it! I just really hope nobody followed me!

We made it to the lakeside, in which there are wet marshy patches that litter the area, signaling the end of civilization as the grid of housing and other buildings comes to a stop. We will soon be there, hopefully Charlotte has gotten here already so we can get the hell out. So far, we haven't found weapons of mass destruction, but there is definitely an attack planned. It will be good enough for James to know these fuckers are going to try to kill him and every other authority figure here.

"What the...were is the lake?"

Virgin-Kun snaps you back to reality as you think about what you're going to tell the crimelord what is going on. The both of you stop as you gaze at what is supposed to be Prontia's west lake. Instead, there is a massive gulch, dry and empty.

"What the fuck is this shit?"

"And where is your friend?"

She isn't here yet. That little marshmallow must be struggling to run up here on her stubby legs. Damn, she better not have gotten caught. Everybody on this side of Prontia would be at risk of dying if that was the case.

"We have to wait for her, I trust her to get her ass over here soon."

"Alright, but what about that stuff?..those tarps I mean..."

Looking through the darkness of night, you notice there are several large, heavy brown cloths draped over, something.

Whatever is in there, it is long and tall and takes up a lot of space. Pretty fucking big. I kinda hope it's not important, that would mean someone is coming this way soon...

I want to go down there and take a look at what they have resting in the dried out lake, but I want to make sure Charlotte does get here so we can be on our merry way. Hmmm...

"I'm going to go down there and check out those tarped things. Watch for Lottie when she gets back while I go do that."

"Fine. You better make it fast though. It might not be her that shows up first."

He makes a good point. Sliding down the steep incline takes you to the slightly uneven bottom of the lake. You better make this quick.

Dashing over to the closest hidden object, you try to tear the huge covering off. Closer now, the item being covered is at least five times your size and much, much taller. It is difficult to manipulate the big blanket due to the sheer enormity of it.

"So tell me, what was your name again?"

"It's about time you asked that, I was afraid you would never call me by my given name, seeing as you don't give a heck about that, like most things."

He seems a little miffed about that while you continue to struggle with this damned tarp. Where the fuck is Charlotte? Damn this is starting to get on your nerves.

"My name is B-"

"-HOLY SHIT!"

The cover has finally been removed, you interrupt your ally to take in a sight shocking even for a jaded man such as yourself.

It is a large black machine with large wheels beneath it and a massively long body that tapers as it travels upward into the air. The muzzle of the cannon towers over you with its length and the diameter of the muzzle could easily fit you inside of it like a bad circus performer. Scratch that, it can fit a few bad circus performers in there. It is absolutely excessive in its own weight and power. This was not constructed to fight against people more than it was created to take down whole armies. You don't even want to imagine the ammo this will be firing off.

"...What in the world, is that some kind of oversized cann-"

"It's a mortar. A big one."

You know what this weapon is. You don't want to believe it though, as this level of sophistication is beyond this place's time, just like that box that crazy cyborg fuck left. The destructive power of such a piece of heavy artillery would be comparable to the surface-to-air weapons back at home in the real world. Whoever had this constructed is really intent on not just winning, but killing absolutely everyone and destroying everything that stands up in Prontia. There is no other reason for such an excess in firepower.

"Funyaa~!!"

There is a soft little splat and a little grunt near where your lookout is posted. You hear a familiar mumbling, panting and crying coming from higher ground. Virgin-Kun is quick to warn you about what is going on.

"She's back. People are coming. We have to go! Now!"

Shit! You're still down here...

Roll to get out. Best of five.

DC 70: Rolled 83 - Make like a tree and get the fuck out of here.

You see Virgin-Kun hauling ass with Charlotte in hand as they run away from the lake. The little girl is being dragged since she can barely keep up as they head south. Seeing them running for it gives you a sense of urgency. It's time to leave.

ORYAAH!

You heave the massive tarp back over the mortar with all your strength. It manages to hitch back on well enough despite being so tall.

There is a glowing in the distance with the accompanying stampede of running footfalls. The angry villagers are coming out with their torches and pitchforks. Taking a look at what's coming, you have to amend the items to "burning swords" instead. Damn, time to book it. Dropping down to the bottom of the lake, you dash towards the south, easily catching up to your two party members by cutting through the empty lake with a few sick hops. Now to clear the lakeside incline.

Speeding up, you prepare yourself to clamber up the warped wall of the side of the empty lake. With a resounding grunt, you manage to clear the obstacle in only a couple of bounds, pulling yourself up and hurrying to your friends. You are quick to take Charlotte out of Virgin-Kun's hands so he can run faster. She's your responsibility anyway. She is blubbering at the fact your getaway was not completely on point with a bunch of guys on your tail. Looking back you don't see anyone following you out as you pass city limits. Not the worst getaway, but you have to keep going until there is no chance of getting caught. You have a feeling that they wouldn't just leave themselves open here.

"Come with me! I have a plan."

He seems to be heading straight south, if you keep going you'll be at the forest you stomped a lot of bugs in. The beginning of the woods is not far from where you are here near the west side.

>>
All you hear is the sound of the ground bursting from beneath. Still running with Virgin-Kun in front of you, you do the only thing you can in this situation.

SHIII'NEEEE!!!!!!!!!

Tackling the boy to the ground, you hit the deck as he flies somewhat in front of you from your linebacker tackle. You cover Charlotte under your own body to try to protect her from the oncoming havoc. She underneath you on your left side.

The detonation that occurs to the left side of you is deafening. Your body is thrown away like a ragdoll as everything fades to black.

________________________________________________

You are woken up by your body being bounced up and down as you travel at a breakneck speed. Coming to, you are able to come to the conclusion that you are on a white steed. You can't hear for shit, and everything hurts right now. You struggle to stay awake as your body tells you to shut down.

Looking to your right side, it's Virgin-Kun. He's riding on a brown horse, noticing that you've woken up just a little bit, he opens his mouth to yell, but there is no sound. His expression is one of painful sorrow and anxious excitement.

What the hell is this cuckold saying? Looking to your left, it hits you.

You are bleeding like a motherfucker right now, struggling to stay awake.

FUCK!!! Your whole left side is punctured by shrapnel all over. The left leg is badly mangled in by all sorts of shit lodged into it from the ground and the explosive. Your brain is numb, but you can still feel a terrible pain in that side. You can't really feel or move anything on your left anymore right now as it is engulfed in pure pain and numbness. Son of a bitch! That's your good arm and your good leg! Blood trails from that side, you've been lightly dressed and it doesn't stop the blood from almost poring out of you.

You think this is the worst of your troubles until you take a look behind you whilst you ride alongside Virgin-Kun tied to this white horse.

>DC 60: Rolled 1 - The worst case scenario

Looking behind you was a terrible mistake, you wish that you could take back what you've seen.

Charlotte lays there, strapped to the caboose of the white horse behind you. She lays there face down, her right side towards you. That seems okay, but something is wrong.

She lays there completely motionless, as if asleep, which only gives you anxiety. It takes all your strength to turn and flip her over while not disturbing her tying to the horse.

...

Her whole left side is pretty much destroyed. It is pocketed with small shrapnel injuries as she lies in a comatose state. Blood mixes with charred flesh as she simply lays there. This isn't even the full extent of her injuries, which you can't even begin to think about without losing your goddamn mind.

You are completely beside yourself. This is all too much for you to handle. Whoever is responsible for the emplacement of those landmines...they're gonna pay!

...THEY'RE GONNA PAY!!!!!!

You red-out as you are left positively livid from seeing what happened to the irritating, but precious little girl.

Oh fuck... and Shinbatsu gets stronger the more dire the situation is..... Potato is critically wounded to the point of holy shit how is she still breathing from a medical point of view, we are on deaths door and are only conscious due to our straight up Banchouness. >>
>>1953273
Also, I want to specify this. When we created New York no Shinbatsu the gem thingy that we used to imbue it with its power was said to "Increase in power the more dire the battle became." mind you, it did not say the more injured the user was. This means the more dangerous the situation the more threatening of disaster or extremely serious the situation becomes the stronger it is. The situation is that a terrorist organization has very likely killed our closest friend in this world, our only legal defense besides a complete stranger, and now plans to annihilate the entire town and kill everyone we care about who has ever helped us in this world. This is a fight that if we lose and live we still wont survive. This is the direst situation.
>>
>>1953273
While Shinbatsu gets more powerful as we lose health, It also gets bigger and harder to use. This is something we already have a problem doing due to our current state.

We are currently on horseback moving at top speeds AWAY from the enemy you guys want to massacre. So not only will we have to drag Shinbatsu who knows how many miles in to an area we don't know well, we will also have to drag ourselves that far. We are more likely to bleed out in the dirt than kill a single Brotherhood member if we fly off the deep end...right now at least.
I'm not saying we calm down. But there are more important things than going Nuclear.
Save that for when Bacon is giving her last words.

You wake up in a bed under sterile, white sheets in a warm, comfy room.

You are not comfy at all, there is a dull ache in your left side. Your dominant arm feels like shit. Opening up the covers reveals that indeed your left leg is still attached, thankfully. You try to move it. The leg is completely numb right now.

"Give it time, it will heal."

You turn to your right and you finally notice you aren't alone. It's Virgin-Kun.

"Take it easy, you need to rest for just a little bit longer. It needs to finish healing."

He has a little scar on his left cheek. It seems that he was the one that made it out of the explosion with the least amount of damage.

You surge with a sense of haste as your body starts to move on its own.

"Charlotte!"

You croak loudly as you try to get up before getting pushed back into bed by Virgin-Kun.

Sweet trips

I think I see where you're coming from with that. I don't think we can put blame on his for this though. Choosing the forest was a good idea, it just happened to already be booby trapped by a technologically superior enemy. We have no reason to suspect him of working with the Brotherhood, and therefore no reason to suspect he knew that mines were planted there.

It was bad luck, plain and simple.

>Where is she?
>Where are we?
>What happened? what time is it?
>Where is my bat?

"Where is she? Is she okay?"

"She's here. And she's alive! But..."

He hesitates to answer that question with a look of guilt on his face. It only fills you with a pain in the bottom of your chest that rises up towards your throat.

"...She's in critical condition...The only thing they can do is can do is keep her alive in the sanctorium for now until we find someone who has the talent to fully revive her."

...

"Dammit, we were played! We should have known those bastards would set some kind of trap near their war machines!"

That answer just fills you with more questions.

"Where are we? What happened? What time is it? Where is my goddamned bat!?"

"Look, I'm terribly sorry about what happened last night, but you need to rest for now. Just a little longer, It's very early in the morning. You'll probably be able to walk out of here today if you calm down."

You try to settle down, everything is starting to get to you as everything starts to come back to you about what happened last night. Virgin-Kun clears his throat as he scoots a little closer to your bedside, legs apart as he leans in close.

"After the explosion, as we were pushed away by the force, there was a second detonation as well. It was like a pillar of flame, I've never seen anything like it. The ground was annihilated by it. It didn't stop the debris from being launched though..."

You were expecting some kind of bouncing betty or some shrapnel-based landmine, not some incendiary weapon.

"...In any case, I acted as fast as I could, adrenaline took over as I carried the two of you away to where I had stashed away a pair of horses in the southern forest. I was hoping we could ride straight to the Morrcock Construction Building. I dropped you once when another two explosions had gone off, but I was able to get you all away in time. I was very fortunate."

He looks down with a sad, somber smile before continuing.

Afterwards, I was able to quickly dress your wounds, tie you up to the second horse I borrowed, and bring you here. I brought us to the base of the Order of the Silver Crown on the southern end of Prontia.

"...Eh...?"

I'll change my answer to this. We're already here and being treated DESPITE being at odds with the Order. It might be that we have sympathizers on the inside.

We might be hot-headed and emotional, but we're not idiots.

Also I'm not sure of the Morrcock's doctor is equipped to deal with critically injured patients.

But if you're hellbent on getting out of bed, at least do it to check on Lottie yourself.
>>
The level of sheer rage I have at Charlotte being so injured is beyond statement. There have to be hundreds of words, thousands of phrases in both slang and formal speech to define the level of anger one man can have and absolutely NONE of them are, I feel, appropriately forceful enough to detail the sheer unfettered loathing I have for this group. The entirety of the organization could fall down dead from an anus eating virus that caused them to vomit up their own intestines as they passed, and yet that I would considering far too merciful for them.

People get upset at bad things happening to fictional characters all the time. See Maes Hughes and Nina Tucker of Fullmetal Alchemist.

You have to admit it looks good on Truck that he can get this kind of reaction out of us.

Plus, I think this is the first nat 1 we've had in this Quest and boy was it catastrophically bad. We were expecting it to only punish Billy, but Truck threw us off our emotional bracing by hitting Charlotte as well. We probably should have seen it coming, though. We've been singing the praises of our potato quite loudly for the last couple of threads and endearing her to us in the process. We like Billy, but as a group we LOVE Charlotte.
>>

I'm kind of upset a nat one put us in the hospital and blew half her body, it seems like a little much.

You are grateful for the fact that Virgin-Kun has managed to somehow drag you to and Charlotte to safety, in spite of your injuries. But to drag you into the into the lion's where your enemies lie...

Your rage boils over and forces you to spring into action. The only issue is that your legs feel like jelly, especially the damage one.

Roll to get up. Best of three.

>DC 80: Rolled 82 - Fuck these legs, I'm leaving.

You throw the bedsheet off, revealing the piece of meat that is your busted left leg. It is marred with a shitload of new scars now from the firey-explosion surprise and it has been dressed lightly over the worst parts. You can't feel it at all after whatever they did to it.

Nonetheless, you figure it's time to raise some hell in the home of these douchebags. You'll make them regret all the slimy shit they've done to you and everyone else. You're going to find your little raccoon girl and get the fuck out.

Virgin-Kun sees what you are doing clearly as you swing your numb legs forward towards the side of the bed.

"I told you not to try to stand! I know your upset at everything that's going on, but the both of you need to sta-"

Virgin-Kun attempts to push you back into bed as you're getting out. This time you aren't having any of it. As he tries to push you, you grab him by his fine clothes and shove him out of your way. He lands several feet away from you, flat on his back after flinging him from the bed with just your arm-strength as he slides into the wall and grunts as he hits solid ground.

"-Uuuoooffff!"

You do your best to stand on your legs, but walking is rather difficult. Your leg starts to bleed from the amount of pressure you're putting on it, not fully being healed yet.

Your awkward walking stops as you lose your balance and fall forward, slamming your face against the floor as you barely catch yourself with your arms. This does not deter you as you proceed to pull your broken body forward with your arms. The pain of loss drives you forward in spite of the terrible pain as your blood is dragged on the floor of your resting place.

"This is madness! You have to stay here! Your injuries are too great and people are comin-"

As he's about to finish, you've pulled yourself to the door, about to climb up to the knob yourself and open it. The both of you are interrupted as the door swings open, pulled away from you as a new figure enters the room.

Starting from shin level, you start at the polished shining greaves and travel up the newcomer's body. The design of the chest piece is unfamiliar to you, but the greatcoat is. It belongs to the Order of the Silver Crown. The helm is a dead give away for you. It makes your blood start to boil even more than it already is You are currently looking up at Captain Blackwell of the Order of the Silver Crown.

Blackwell has acknowledged you, angling that unmistakable helm down at you as you deal with his shocking and appalling presence in your hospital room. The two of you stare through each other as you bleed all over the ground, belly-down, propelled only by your arms.

Boy were you wrong.

Before you stands probably your least favorite person living in the city of Prontia, with whom you have a court date with tomorrow. You lay bloody on the ground, looking up at the plate-armored adversary. Does this bastard ever take his armor off? Even Virgin-Kun has hung his own protection up for now.

DC 80: Rolled 68 - It was a good effort, for what it was worth.

You attempt to imagine Captain Blackwell igniting from the fury of your gaze.

"..."

You get no reaction, save for the eyes of an emotionless metal helmet. Your rival seems to return your sentiments with his unflinching nature. It would be hard to intimidate anyone in the sorry state you're in.

"*Cough* Captain. You've finally recovered? But why come here?"

Blackwell does not break eye contact as you continue to burn an imaginary hole through his armor with your eyes.

"It is my responsibility as the lord commander of this keep that I come to see our...unprecedented patients."

You can tell this bastard is really trying hard to maintain that trademark "politeness". He looks you over, only moving his head for a second to note the trail of blood that currently oozes from your tender leg.

"Squire, get him back into bed. Immediately. He needs to recuperate. He is...unwell."

You look at the armored figure before you incredulously as Virgin-Kun uses your confusion to wrap his arms around you and attempt to haul you up and back into bed.

Virgin-Kun picks you up so that you're about eye-level with Blackwell.

"Squire, I also wanted to thank you for your work out in the field. Finding out about the Unbreakable Brotherhood's plans and getting these civilians to safety was commendable, to say the least. It is an experience that will certainly aid you if you wish to move up in rank."

Before you burst after having most of the credit stolen, Virgin-Kun pipes up to answer the captain.

"I appreciate your praise sir, but with all due respect, I had a lot of help. Not to mention that you lent me your own horse. It proved vital in transporting my friends here to safety. I've never seen a more disciplined and intelligent steed."

"My only hope is that there is still time and resources to impede our imminent enemy..."

This back and forth patting on the back is making you sick enough to throw up. You aren't done with this asshole, and you won't be put to bed like some fucking child. You are feeling a little light-headed from the bloodloss, but you muster all your strength to escape the grip of the younger man.

"Okay, Bently time to let go. I'm serious."

"That is not my na-"

Sir Blackwell notices your struggle, giving you fair warning and finally addressing you.

"Excuse me, sir, but if you continue this obstinate, uncouth behavior, I will be forced to act as the commanding officer here and exercise my authority so you do not further disturb my men or the other patients here."

"If you think I'm going to let you put me back into bed instead of going to see my injured ally, you have another thing coming!"

"Give it a rest, you are in no condition to get past me, much less even walk."

That sounds to you like a fucking challenge if you've ever heard one. One which you will happily accept.

"Shows what you know about loyalty. Some fucking knight you are. I was out there busting my ass to make YOUR city a better place, and then you repay me by constantly getting in my way!? I don't think so!"

The knight turns their head to the side to consider his next words carefully, before turning back and raising their voice. It rings out through that sleek helm with a very tinny authority.

"YOUR PRESENCE HERE IS A PRIVILEGE. THE DEMI-HUMAN IS STILL ALIVE ON MY ORDER, MY WILL, MY ALLOWANCE. NOW GET YOUR WITS ABOUT YOU AND RETURN TO YOUR BED, OR SO HELP ME PRONTUS I WILL PUT YOU THERE MYSELF! THIS MADNESS ENDS NOW!!!!"

Okay! That is it! Nobody looks down on you like this and gets away with it. Especially when your friend is hurting! You yell at the top of your lungs in the face of your archnemesis as you resist doing what they tell you.

Fuck!

The room is a little fuzzy as you rub your aching head as you come back to reality again. The skin around your left eye is swollen and hurts like a bitch. You vaguely remember being knocked the fuck out by a certain captain. It is soon enough that you realize you are back in bed now after having eaten a knuckle sandwich for breakfast early this morning. Your legs are still numb, and now so is your head as you try to shift yourself around. It's hard to sit here and try to recover when you are a man of action at heart.

Either way, you feel pretty stupid for trying to suckerpunch Blackwell now after reflecting on it briefly. It seems that letting Charlotte's injury get to you has made you pretty stupid. Pain wells up in your chest as you feel powerless to stop the current events.

"Are you alright?"

Virgin-Kun, still in the room with you, has noticed you woke up. It was mighty big of him to stick by you after tossing him aside not once, but twice.

"My ego is bruised, but I'm fine now."

The two of you share a quick laugh at your own expense at what happened earlier. There's nothing else you can really do about it.

"Don't worry about the Captain. He seems to be overlooking your outburst, for now at least."

Well, that's a fucking relief. I guess...

You move a little bit to get comfortable. Virgin-Kun seems to take this as you trying to move around again.

"You know, there are a good amount of people who want to see you - Like I was saying before."

"Is that so?"

Virgin-Kun gets up to leave before answering you.

"Oh yeah, I think someone is coming right now. Maybe you'll be more inclined to relax a bit with some other company, someone you know a little better."

Roll 1d10 to see who shows up. Taking the first roll.

Rolled 3: The father and the son (3,4)

As Virgin-Kun leaves, two men fill his place.

You are greeted by James Morrcock Junior and James Morrcock Senior. The senior takes his hat off and his son bows to you. The younger man speaks first.

"Good morning, Mr. Iwo. I hope your recovery has been going well."

"It hasn't but thanks for asking."

Junior smiles nervously, realizing your still in a bit of a foul mood from the recent events that have unfolded. Ojisan tries to smooth things out a bit.

"Son, Thank you very much for risking so much to investigate the west side and the Brotherhood. According to what your accomplice told us, we are going to be hardpressed about figuring out how to stop them."

"Indeed. If what you have uncovered is true, Mr. Iwo, then we are all in grave danger."

James Junior takes a pouch of money out of his fancy coat jacket and places it by your bedside.

"As promised, I've paid what I've owed you. In addition, I haven't properly thanked you for...taking care of Captain Blackwell earlier. If there is anything else you might need, please ask away. If you find the strength to stand at some point, please return to the company building. You wished to take care of the outbreak after all, yes?"

Ojisan pushes in front of his son a to speak to you about something equally important.

"Son, I would be happy to be a witness on your behalf tomorrow, after getting the message yesterday. Well, that is if we're able to stop the Brotherhood from attacking us..."

Damn, this is a lot of shit happening at once. You should probably take advantage of the fact that they are both here to see you. Both of them have become quite anxious at the turn of events.

I really just want to choose all of those answers.

>Is there anything you could do about Lottie?

I want to help get Lottie back up to good health asap Because its my fault she's like this in the first place

And after that outburst from Blackwell, I'm more worried about her safety than before. I wouldn't put it past that scum to use her health as leverage over us.

"Is there anything you can do about Lottie?"

James looks his father in the eye. Ojisan has a sad look on his face as he breaks the bad news.

"We had our family doctor look at her. She seems to be suffering from a serious head trauma that is beyond our capabilities to heal. He said this goes beyond ordinary healing magic and physical operation. You would need someone who could perform miracles or perhaps someone who has mastered the art of healing. I'm terribly sorry."

"I'm afraid her time in the Sanctorium will not be long either, they have to discharge those who have stayed for three days. It's their rules, unfortunately."

There are a few images in your mind about who fits those descriptions, which you are quick to dismiss. Damn it! She won't last long if what James said is true about the time limit. Attempting not to think about it, you ask about how much Virgin-Kun filled them in.

"Well, Your compatriot was able to tell us what he found out while undercover in the Rosey Squatter. He had managed to get a couple of the men to talk after a few drinks and some coin. Once again, money prevails over the common man."

Ojisan rolls his eyes hearing his son talk about money.

"We know about the man behind the Brotherhood, a zealot named Vosough. He said something about "cleansing" Prontia, apparently."

"And we heard about the weapons they have of course. These odds sound rather dreadful. A cannon that can shoot from afar sounds like quite the challenge unless we are able to get behind enemy lines."

You decide to tell them everything else, such as the demon woman you've encountered and the true nature of the weapon you had discovered. They do not take it well.

"I hate to admit this, Mr. Iwo, but we have been attempting to ally ourselves with the other Prontian factions in an attempt to prepare to fight these terrorists. It has been difficult-"

"-Every side has demands, of course. The only ones who are riding into battle without complaint are the Order."

"And it's about time! They were all in a tiffy about their captain getting hurt all this time. they could have at least kept operating instead of protesting.

Shit! The more you hear, the worse it gets. At least you have an idea what is going on.

"We don't have that much time left, son. They have rules for visitors and how long they can stay as well."

"You should be able to get out of here a little later today. According to the apothecary, your injuries will heal enough for you to walk out later today, if the magic is allowed to work. Please meet with us later at the company building later in the day."

"My new lawyer, Doctor Corvus. Could you bring him to me?"

The father and son look at each other again.

"That old gentleman with the strange accent and the pitch black ensemble."

"I was told he's on his way here already. You are his client, after all."

You let out a sigh of relief. Perhaps something can be done about Charlotte.

"Take care son."

"Please, Mr. Iwo, come find us later. Perhaps you can join us for some tea?"

The two men leave you alone to contemplate how you're going to get out of this mess. Your legs still feel like shit...

Rolled 10 - The casual lover (9,10)

You hear one of the Morrcock's in the corridor address the approaching visitor.

"M'lady."

Huh, I wonder who that could be?

The door swings open forcefully and slams on the other side, and you are greeted with a very, very familar brown lady.

"Shara!?"

"Who else were you expecting?"

She's still wearing those ragged clothes she wore that night you met her at the Broken Axle, and did...things you'd rather not think about at the moment. She walks to your bedside and does her one great specialty aside from dancing on bar tables: Violating your personal space. Her upper leg is brushing slightly against your leg as it lays in bed, sending a little tingle up your spine.

Her demeanor is as pleasant and carefree as ever, though it's clear she was concerned enough to find you after getting blown to smithereens. Very...uncharacteristic of her. She has a warm smile on her face as she waits for you to say something.

Before you even get a chance to ask, your brow friend has a slightly more remorseful look than usual.

"I'm really sorry about your little friend. I heard from others that she was hurt really bad. It's all those Brotherhood guys fault for being so afraid of being spied on, I guess. I wish there was something I could do to take it all back."

Well, it's a relief that at least she seems to care about your problems. You change your question to ask about the Brotherhood and it's leader.

"Vosough, that guy is really a boor. He loves to preach about stuff I don't really care about. Almost everyone on the West side has been forced to help with the construction of his weapons. He has a lot of women help about by dancing to keep morale up."

That certainly explains a lot. You mention about having stopped by and your encounter with the Red Lady at the Rosey Squatter. Shara takes the time to laugh at you.

"Demonic or not, a beautiful woman gives you a show and you just run away? I expected you to be a little bit more of a player, darling."

Her words hurt your pride just a bit, she seems not to understand the idea you were going to burn to death after sitting through that perilous dance, however.

You try to change the subject by asking Shara what her actual purpose here is, before she stops your mouth from moving with her index finger over your lips.

"You know why I'm here. I thought you might be getting a little lonely without me around, lover. I had to make sure you were still in one piece. Now it seems I have to make you forget all about that scary Red Lady, hmmm?"

You know what she wants, and the fact that's she's getting a little handsy confirms it.

Shara gives you this look you've never seen her make before. It's difficult to put your finger on, but she looks far more serious than you've ever seen her. Her eyes become far deeper than you've ever seen anyone's eyes before. She then leans in real close to you before taking a big whiff of you and smiling, holding her nose.

"Oh wow, you really reek of blood. Can I at least help you clean off? I won't do anything too weird, I promise. Seriously though, you need a shower or something."

She's back to normal as she starts to make fun of you again. You are still covered in congealed blood right now, and you aren't really going anywhere at the moment. Maybe you could look around too? Should you indulge her?

Ehh, why the hell not. Some hot woman wants to clean you up. Who are you to say no to that?

"Fine, but keep to your word that they'll be no funny stuff, got it?"

"I can try."

She responds playfully as she helps you up. She does so with surprisingly little effort as she picks you up rather easily in an otherwise emasculating position until you tell her to carry you in a more appropriate way. Her athletic bod is not just for show, it seems. She carries you out and you begin a long an arduous trip to find a washroom. They try to stop Shara from dragging you into the washroom with her, but she manages to sneak you in against the wishes of the prudish knights.

The washroom is surprisingly much like home, a large shower room and a chair for you to sit down. Shara does not hesitate to get naked herself before scrubbing you down. She starts with your back. It is a good feeling to have a girl take care of you like this, which she points out to you that she's been doing all the work. Both times she's "serviced" you, you were in a somewhat helpless state. The relaxation is somewhat interrupted as she starts to get a little too touchy with you. The girl doesn't know how to hold back!

She figures out how to comb your hair properly after a short while, and puts you back into the outfit the gave you to wear while being under the Silver Crown's care. You need to get your clothes back.

>Cont.

>>1956916
You end up convincing Shara to take you to see Charlotte, which at least takes you some time to find the Sanctorium, where they're keeping her. The inner Sanctorium is like some kind of sanctuary church sort of thing. The only souls in there are a few meditating clerics and the people receiving treatment.

It's not so hard to find Charlotte, which you soon come to regret. She lays in the coffin-like bed. Painful guilt burns in your chest as you see the ruined visage of the girl you had sworn to set an example for and condition. Her left side is badly burned, and scars mar her burnt flesh on that side. The damage is enough to discolor her skin, but it is far from the worst. Her arm is pretty badly mangled by the explosion. Her left leg is gone, up to the shin. They did not get rid of all the shrapnel, as there is one, large twisted piece juts out from her forehead.

The little girl breathes, but only just. Clenching your fist as hard as you can, you begin to bleed as your fingernails dig into your palm. Shara has that same look on her face that she did when you refused her advances.

If you're going to do something to save her it needs to be done soon.

It is made clear to you the damage done to Charlotte was far worse than previously thought. Healing her will be difficult, already made an improbability with the standard healing magic. She is thankfully still alive, her small chest rises and falls gently with each breath. But for how long? She apparently only has three days until they cut her off from what is effectively the life-supporting magics of this room. Damn it!

You look away as you swallow your heart painfully back down into your chest. This is all my fault. Shara seems to understand the way you hurt, and tries to be more reasonable with you.

"Let's get you back to bed, you need to rest."

Part of you wants to stay here, but you don't have complete control over your own freedom of movement as Shara drags you back to your room.

Shara doesn't seem to take this emotional stuff very well, and after fixing you up and keeping you company for a time, she sorrowfully parts ways, making sure to tuck you in beforehand.

You drift off back to sleep, the horrible state of your underling exhausts you enough that you pass out into a surprisingly restful sleep, for a time.

Another person seems to be approaching to visit...

It turns out the visitor is just some kind of servant of the Silver Crown outpost. They try to give you something to eat, but with all the terrible things that happened recently, you don't know if you could stomache it. Once again you drift off to sleep until you are awoken by another, but this time highly undesirable presence.

You are roused by the sound of the door being shut. Scrabbling out of an uncomfortable position with one arm over your eyes and the other going numb from being slept on. The new guest has said nothing to identify themselves, prompting you to sit up to face them.

"...You...?"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBVHpgsS1F0

The hooded man has returned. His attention turns to you after snapping his pocket watch shut and putting it away. He's come to visit your room as you recover from a grievous leg injury. You are almost completely defensless.

+YES. IT IS I.+

That crazy, half man, half machine bastard you had confronted at the church the other day has appeared. You aren't exactly sure how he managed to sneak himself in, nor how he managed to repair the extensive damage you had done to his body so quickly. Just the other day, you had manage to tear his whole arm off along with some of his face to reveal the mechanical body that hides beneath his false, human exterior. His bright blue gaze weighs heavily upon you from under his hooded dark blue robes. His fake face is as unexpressive as ever, all his features having a perfect distance from one another in a sickening physical perfection.

He stands over you as you grit your teeth and try to get up, slowly and with great difficulty. You were able to hold this guy off once, and you are at least not going down again without a fight. You try to drag your ass out of bed by swinging your legs.

"It fascinates me in the ways which you choose inappropriate places to do battle. I have no intention of fighting you right now, boy."

You just do your best to stare him down with all the malice you can muster in your heart.

What the fuck does he want? What does he have to gain by being here if he isn't here to take you out?

"Why are you here? What do you even want then?"

The creepy, murderous cyborg man looks you over as you half-sit on the bed, ready to move at a moment's notice and likely try to punch his face in. He maintains his monotone, deliberate way of speaking to answer you.

"I came here to check on you after hearing you had been injured. I am glad I came to see with my own eyes. Your injuries are far less than what was claimed to be true. You will walk away from this place in two hours..."

You wonder how accurate his claim is. You know that this particular servant of the Demon Lord is adept at anything to do with the human body, but you have a hard time trusting a villain like him.

"...Of course, if you choose to fight me here, there is the potential outcome you may never walk again."

This guy is starting to piss you off. He's dismissing you as a threat due to your injuries. You hate to admit it, especially in regards to this guy, but he is probably right. You don't really know if you could take him in a fight right now, as much as you'd like to. How in the hell did a guy like this get into the damned fantasy police department with such ease?

"How did you get in here?"

"I walked in. Even if they tried to stop me, there are only enough of the Ordo here to be a minor hindrance to my progress."

This guy...there has to be more to it than this. What is he really after? The automaton man takes a seat, the same seat that Virgin-Kun had taken when he was here with you.

He simply sits there, existing to torture your own sense of safety with his presence. You worry about Charlotte. He doesn't seem to know her, but if he does...she could be in terrible danger.

DC 90: Rolled 40 - I'm like a cornered, injured rat, unfortunately

"You sayin' I'm a threat?"

You try your damned hardest to stare this guy down, to channel whatever the fuck that was inside you when you were at the courthouse yesterday, that primal killing intent. You look right through his empty, glowing blue eyes. There is no reaction. the empty pits into his soul simply stare back. You wince a bit as your blood starts to pump through you at an accelerated rate, and through your leg.

He does not react at all, as usual, but he gives you some words in response for your effort.

"It seems bravado is something you are not in short supply of."

+COMMENDABLE BUT FOOLISH+

He turns his head to the left, as if looking through the walls themselves. At something else entirely.

"You do realize you aren't in a position to make threats? You have everything to lose, after all. In this state, you would not be sufficient to stop me from taking the thing you value away from you..."

"Nani sore!?"

You are quick to jump to attention. This evil bastard! He didn't just threaten you. He just threatened-

"But that is not why I am here. You see. In addition to confirming the state of your health, I have come to bargain. So to speak."

"Bargain?"

What the hell could this creep be willing to gain from making a deal with you?

"Part of the deal was to listen to your opinion on the matter first. I'm uncertain why this was a part of this bargain, to be honest. Those subjective feelings are irrelevant, however."

Honestly we don't have much time. We can't really leave the city to find a healer since we're embroiled in this massive gang war. Our options are to either let her die, let the evil metal man help, or let a man who may or may not be the goddamn devil help.

There is no good option.
>>
>>1962512
Plus its not like we can rely on the "good guys" to help us right now. Blackwell's made it clear he's willing to let her die before we can reasonably find help for her.

So we either we cut a deal with robot man here, Doc Corvus (who I think is nice, but we know even less about him than the evil guy in front of us), or we, and I shudder to propose this, we cut a deal with the Ordo.

You two do realize that its a guarantee that she will be in even more danger, with the added affect of, we would have to take a bribe for mass murdering lunatics, on top of her being held over our heads like a carrot? Anyway, literally anyway is better than asking THAT nutjob, for help.
>>
>>1962562
I understand what you're say, and I'm honestly not a fan of taking this deal. I want to hear what he's offering and what he wants in return, though. It might give us insight into his plans.

Really, I wish we had better option available to us.

OH I JUST REALIZED SOMETHING
We still haven't picked an official class, right? What if we choose Cleric? Right now in the heat of the moment. Healing spells, motherfuckers!
>>
>>1962554
Wrong, we have so much overwhelming evidence of the Order's willful negligence that we can browbeat them in court into assisting her, do to injuries taken while handling a problem THEY we're supposed to do, by the time we get out of here we will be able to force them to help after the court hearing. We have the old man's best healers to help keep her stable until we can force them to help, along with any other healers nearby that we can drag into assisting as well. You two jumping at the bait that wasn't even fucking offered yet is the fastest way we are going to get fucked over, and not even in the long run either, it will happen really damn quick when we have to be a Banncho and actually stand up to them, because BANG, no more Lotti. Or even worse, they have her hold herself hostage, or tell her to kill one of our friends, or even ourself in our sleep. The idea to ask is quiet possibly the most shortsighted thing to have been said here.

>What's in it for you?
What the hell does this bastard want? Whenever he shows up he creates more question than he ever answers.

"What's your offer?"

The hooded man, the "Sextant" as he titles himself, explians the nature of this bargain.

"I was asked to offer you medical assistance."

+TO RESTORE YOU+

"The injury that was described to me was far greater than what I see now. The injury you bear could be healed in minutes if I were to act now. You'd have feeling back in your leg in short order. A waste of my talent."

You feel a little insulted as he puts himself on the pedestal.

"You aren't going to replace my leg with a wooden peg or something, are you?"

He does not react to the question at all, but his voice changes tone to one of impatience. He doesn't like you undermining him.

"What part of "Restore" do you not undertand?"

This makes no sense...Why would he help you?

"Then what's in it for you?"

+VITAL RESOURCES FOR RESEARCH.+

It seems whoever made the deal had something this guy wants. What could they have that he get get himself, what with being a walking catastrophy waiting to happen? Either way, you're unsure why it concerns you.

Precisely, we've killed more undead abominations than anyone in town, stopped ravaging insects from hurting innocents, "attempting" to stop a small civil war, finding a way to stop a plague (eventually), and on top of all this we received the blessing of a god in his own house to beat the ever-loving shit out of one of his followers because we respected the place. Not to mention one-upping the supposed noble order in town every step of the way, WHILE making it very apparent they are just A) corrupt as all hell, 2) shallow in the desire to help the people than a literal random asshole that had noise complaints called on him while he was working, 3) So god damn incompetent that they never noticed a insane race/monetary war being blown up in the east side of town, of which they were also in charge of helping, which the neglected to do.

"I refuse your help, get lost! Fuck you and the horse you rode in on."

As if you'd let the most evil motherfucker you've ever met touch you or anyone else if you could help it. The hooded man stands up in reaction to your steadfast refusal. It's impossible to tell what he's thinking judging by that immovable facial expression.

+I SEE+

"This bargain is settled then. How quaint. The materials I've acquired will be...most pleasing. It will be some time, but even you will have the opportunity to appreciate my work."

What the fuck? He isn't even the least bit insulted after you cussed him out and told him to get the fuck out. Is he...relieved or something? Like he had done at the church two days ago, the Sextant stops right a the door, touching the doorframe once again.

"This is a most interesting development. Do you remember what I spoke to you about the last time we met? About becoming stronger? It seems you have taken the first step towards greatness: Abandoning useless tethers."

What is he on about now? You really hate this scumbag piece of shit. He's never direct with you. He continues to monologue before continuing.

"I've taken the liberty of examining your Demi-Human pet. Such a fragile creature, it's continued survival was improbable from the beginning. The metal shrapnel has caused a most vexing brain injury. Simple magical healing will not be enough to save the Demi-Human. You can be certain that once it is discharged from the Sanctorium...it will die in short order

+OF THIS I AM CERTAIN+

You shiver a bit at the revelation. There is no way you're going to let your friend die. Not like this!

"There is one other that could restore the Demi-Human, aside from myself, who would be able to save it under these circumstances. But why waste valuable resources on something like that?

+IT MATTERS NOT+

"I recommend staying still for a while longer to hasten your healing. And please..."

+HAVE A NICE DAY+

The evil hooded monster leaves. Good fucking riddance. Listening to that guy makes it hard to suppress your own nausea.

Great anger at the sudden intrusion by that metal maniac makes it difficult to relax. Am I going to be able to save Charlotte in time?

Not long after your quiet contemplation, there is another person at the door, turning the doorknob. Who the hell is that?

>Rolled 1: The helpful clerk lady

This stream of visitors has been rather tiring, especially the last one, holy shit was that awful. It is impossible to get comfortable after that one. Not long after that evil cyborg dickhead has gone, there is a knock on the door. You are about to tell whoever it is to take a hike, until the pleasant voice of a woman is heard from the corridor.

"Billy, are you awake?! I' came to see you, I was worried!"

It's difficult to tell what makes you better, the sound of Henrietta, or the fact that she gets your name right. Either way, feels good. You ask her to come in without hesitation.

"Oh my gosh! I'm so glad you're okay!"

She gives you a quick hug before sitting down by you bedside. You notice was carrying carrying something long and dull in color. She smiles innocently as she leans it on your bed.

"Oh, I brought this back for you from your room in the guild. I hope you don't mind that I went into your room to grab it."

Boy, this makes you even more glad to see her. Thank goodness she's here now.

>Obtained: New York no Shinbatsu

"I came here as fast as I could to see you, but my shift will start pretty soon. I just wanted to drop by to see that you were okay."

She's doing her best to cheer you up after everything that happened, doing her typical hair-twirling. How should you respond to her?

You try to make a very long and somewhat tragic story short, mentioning the terrible thing that happened to Charlotte. It pains you to talk about everything last night, it makes you feel guilty that there was no way to stop it with your own power. Henrietta is in tears by the end. She holds onto your hand.

"I need you to try to find me the best healer in Prontia. Stat. I'll pay with whatever I can."

"I...I'll fill out the paperwork for you...Don't feel guilty, Billy. It's not your fault..."

She tries to speak through her own crying. She makes all kinds of sad lady sounds as she heads out the door. Before that door swings shut, there is black gloved hand that holds the door open.

It's Doc Corvus. He strides somewhat slowly into the room. You didn't realize he used a cane until now. He starts to joke around to lighten up the dreary mood left by the sobbing guild woman and your sorry ass.

"What's the matter boy? You know you shouldn't be goin' 'round breakin' girls hearts everywhere you go like that. That makes 'em more crazy then they already are. She might come back to finish you off later."

He laughs at his own joke, you try to smile, but it's hard after bringing your little friend back up.

The good Doctor sees your concern. He sits himself down into the chair near the bedside.

"What's wrong boy? Don't forget, you and I have some business about your little date with Captain Blackwell tomorrow."

The old man clad in black looks away to contemplate the questions. He runs his fingers through his scruffy grey beard before considering your answer.

"Well, I probably could help her. It would take a day...Hmmm..."

You wait impatiently for him to continue as he thoughtfully considers the options.

"Now look here boy. I have been known to work a miracle here and there. It is certainly within my power to help the little girl. I won't ask for much. Just for a favor. That Blackwell fella was too damned proud to give me my due when I asked him, which is why we're going to take him out together tomorrow in court. "Just a favor? You don't want money?"

He puts on a little smirk

"An old man like me has no need for money, boy. Now if your certain you want to do this, take my hand. Let's shake on it, you know, like we did earlier with the court case, to make it legitimate of course."

There is something about this guy, despite his calm, friendly and jovial demeanor that bugged you. It brings you back to when he played that song next to you on the bench on the west side of town the other night.

You reach out your hand to shake his, but pull back before actually going through with it.

"I'm not making a deal with the devil, am I?"

There is an awkward silence between the two of you. It is interrupted when the old man breaks down. His laugh is hoarse and comes with a lot of wheezing. He folds over for a moment in his laughter before reassuring you.

"Ehehe-huhuh~ Boy do I look like a devil to you?"

He kinda does, making deals and shit all creepy like, but that is for figuring out another time. Right now you have to put Charlotte's life ahead of your suspicions and trust this old man will give you what you want.

You take his hand. Once again Doctor Corvus smiles a big smile from ear to ear. It makes his old cheeks become rosy. This time however, you feel quite tired after shaking the old man's hand, and his grin is the last thing you see before you drift off into a peaceful slumber. As you lay on the bed and finally rest, having seen the stream of visitors, you hear a poem play in your head. You can't even recognize the voice you hear.

"I reach up to you with this hand in grief
To grant this desire, my gracious relief
But should I not freely return in kind
Then this spirit in dark forever bind"

Aww shit! Maybe he really was after your soul...!

You wake up, feeling as if you had had a nightmare where that old motherfucker stole your soul. Checking yourself out, you seem to still be all there. Thank god, you thought you might be missing something. After checking, your injuries don't seem to hurt so much anymore, and there is feeling back in your legs. Testing it out shows that standing and walking is finally possible, albeit still tender. That magical healing really works wonders. It makes you wonder there are skilled healers all around this magical place.

Grabbing Shinbatsu, you get ready to move out. There are receptionists that bear the insignia of the Silver Crown. They are surprisingly cordial with you as you check the hell out of the base of the people you really don't care for. It's around noon right now according to them, plenty of time to make things right and stop the impending attack of the Unbreakable Brotherhood. There's a lot going on right now.

>The Morrcock clan wanted to see me after I got out

With your hand on the door, you double back into the little sanctuary-infirmary they have going on here. You need to see if the old man delivered. To know that Charlotte has been saved.

Racing back, you shoulder your way through the servants of the Order of the Silver Crown, which hurts your legs just a bit. All the way to the back where the Sanctorium lies. The pain subsides as you enter this place of healing. It's time to check on your little friend. The coffin-like bed on which she resides still has her in it. Instead of relieved, you are shocked.

All of the girl's injuries have vanished. Her horrific burn scars are gone, her face is back to normal, and missing foot is now completely intact. The chubby girls flesh is no longer riddled with puncture wounds, and most perplexing of all, the huge horn-like piece of shrapnel that once embedded itself in her head is now gone. She is as blemish-less as a newborn babe. From the top of her uncovered, furry-eared head, to her big, soft, round belly, and to her plump little feet. Everything is in it's place, where it should be. The Tanukin girl slumbers still in the lent grey robe offered by her temporary caretakers

You are glad to see her completely recovered. Holding your breath, you do not let out a sigh of relief. It is a great burden off your shoulders, but at what cost? The quiet contemplation of what you may have sacrificed comes to an end when you feel a hand clasp onto you shoulder, firm, but relaxed.

"Not bad, huh boy? Good as new."

It's Doctor Corvus.

"Just let her rest for now, she'll wake up this time tomorrow, same as she ever was."

"..."

As the first thing in the next session and thread, can we ask Doc Corvus what we sacrificed?
>>
...Well, better a deal with Corvus than Crazypants McMachinedouche.

So long as Charlotte's fine, I can handle nearly anything that's thrown at us.
>>
Welp, glad to see that the "Charred Potato" situation kinda just worked itself out.
Kinda limp if you ask me, but I'm sure this "deal" we made will make up for it, and then some.
