You are Alexander Hickory, an 18 year old junior professor and graduate from the prestigious Erbaum Academy. You are currently on a self-directed research journey with two other junior professors in the hopes of achieving greatness in your respective fields. Your primary goal is to study pokemon physiology and are particularly interested in the study of strange and unique characteristics.

You think it's pretty likely she's going to call for another thundershock. You call back Beldum, then toss out Larvitar's ball. He bursts onto the battlefield to be hit with a blast of lightening, which he grounds out without any effort. The sandstorm seems to be petering out a bit, but there's still enough left over to damage Pikachu further.

There's a good chance you can win with the next blow if you get lucky, so you prepare your command.

You call out, "Bite!"

As the sands fade from around the battlefield, you are able to see your opponent clearly for the first time in a while. She looks relaxed, like she's having fun with the battle despite her dire predicament. Her pikachu has a sudden birst of speed, doing a lap around the battlefield at an alarming swiftness before vanishing from sight. The yellow rodent appears only after it connects with Larvitar for a perfectly executed critical quick attack that barely scratches your pokemon, who's mouth is swirling with dark energy.

He bites down halfway on Pikachu's tail, it's not a spectacular attack but it does the job well enough. As you asses the status of the pokemon, the Pikachu vanishes back into the blonde lass' pokeball. You relax and call Larvitar back, while your opponent walks over to meet you.

"Good match, you're really something," she says, "I'm Claire by the way. Thanks for the battle, and for your help with before."

You tell her it was no problem, and bid her and Lana goodbye while you look around for Oliver. She grabs her friend and they run off somewhere. You hear a chime from your pokedex, seeing that you have received 1,600 for winning and that Claire has given you her contact information. You find Oliver doing training drills with a very tired looking Nidorina, she seems to be learning the basics of Bite and very tired.

Oliver tells you his pokemon are spent for now, and you make your way back to the pokemon center. You leave your pokemon with the attendent and contact Mina, who lets you know she'll meet you later in the evening for dinner. You discuss your plans for the next few hours with Oliver over sandwiches.

You tell Oliver you want to take a look around the city for pokemon, and he tells you he's heard rumors of a location with plenty of them. You pick up your pokemon and he leads you out of the center. You walk for a half hour, with Oliver tight-lipped on the location the entire time. He stops in front of a massive waste treatment plant.

You split up and creep around for a few minutes to see what's in the area. You find several Grimer next to a water pipe, some are purely purple but most of them are multicolored and lumpy. You avoid them and make your way to the back, where you find a bunch of Koffing frolicking in smokestack fumes.

You walk back to the front and meet up with Oliver. He tells you he found Grimer too, as well as some Trubbish here and there.

Koffing is extremely relevant to our interest in neurology, considering it grows an extra head upon evolution. We should catch one and take it back for scans.

Those lumpy grimer would be potentially powerful additions to our team if that's what you guys are into. I'm also interested in the "power of alchemy" ability. (It'd be really interesting to research, assuming we can find one with a Hidden Ability.)

And I hold a personal love of trubbish.

You call out for a hidden power, and Beldum begins charging blueish energy. The Koffing focuses itself oddly, with its eyes closed. Beldum unleashes an abnormally powerful blast that coats the Koffing with a layer of frost. The purple pokemon steadies itself, then blasts off a beam of purplish force from the center of its forehead that pushes Beldum back as it hits. He barely felt that attack though, and Koffing is looking a little slower.

You order another hidden power, and Beldum delivers. It's a direct hit and does a fair amount of damage, though not quite as much as the last shot. The Koffing seems to close its eyes again, and both it and Beldum are bathed in a strange light. They're knocked around in the air by an invisible force coming from various directions. After the odd attack ends, for some reason Beldum seems a bit healthier while Koffing is even weaker than before.

You decide the Koffing has had enough, and you toss out a pokeball. The purple blob is pulled in and the ball seals shut. It shakes around a few times, but you hear that familiar click. You let your captured Koffing out of the pokeball and speak to it. The purple blob is bold, but it respects you for defeating it. It has excellent stats all around, besides a middling speed, and truly excels when it comes to health and defenses. You study its form, it's bigger than its fellows and also passively produces considerably more smoke from the many pores on its skin. Taking a closer look and comparing to the database on your pokedex, it has a darker grey to it than usual and your type analyzer finds traces of ghost energy amidst a lot of poison.

The pokemon is essentially just a skull surrounded with numerous bladders, the pokedex tells you. The bladders mix their contents to cause various chemical reactions, an through their use the Koffing also derives its ability to move as well as attack. The brain is highly developed compared to animal-like pokemon, but less so than most human-like ones. They feed primarily on hydrocarbons produced by factory air waste, but can scavenge from many other sources. They are highly resilient creatures.

It demonstrates its abilities for you, adapting very quickly to a battlefield mindset. It produces various gasses for most of its attacks, showing you smokescreen, poison gas, smog, and clear smog. It can also vomit forth a potent sludge, as well as attack with the dark attack assurance. It demonstrates the two moves it used during the battle, the first was psybeam and the second you find out is called pain split.

You write your findings down in your research notes, and find Oliver fighting with one of the colorful Grimer. It disappears into a pokeball as you walk over toward him, and you soon hear it click. You both exchange congratulations, and he points out a second Grimer and tells you it's almost as good as the one you just caught. It looks like it was weakened by something previously.

>What do you do?

You decide to act quickly and throw out a pokeball a the Grimer he pointed out. It has a surprised look on its face as it disappears into the ball. The ball shakes a few times and clicks closed. You've caught a Grimer, so you decide to check him out.

You do your best to communicate with him, asking about how he became injured. He gestures to some purple Grimer nearby and punches his hand a few times, it seems he was attacked. He seems to be in good spirits about the whole ordeal though, and is a jolly creature.

You compare him with your pokedex database and learn that Oliver was correct, he has outstanding attacking potential and above average stats otherwise. You also learn about the species in general.

It seems they move along by expanding and contracting various pseudopods from its amorphous bottom half. The creature grows more solid the furthur up its body, with a system of bone and muscle deep within its torso coated by layer upon layer of slime-flesh. They're similar in intelligence to a Koffing, between animal-like and human-like pokemon.

You have it show you its attacks, and the first thing it does is a bite. It then demonstrates a poison coated version he seems particularly proud of. He then proceeds to perform pound, poison gas, harden, and disable. When he vomits up an acid spray, you nearly hurl your own stomach contents.

When you question him on his ability, he doesn't identify with either of the common ones. He doesn't eat berries any faster than anyone else, and he's never poisoned anyone with a pound. He expresses both of these things with a solemn face as though he is embarrassed.

You give him a thumbs up and tell him not to worry about it, he laughs at your gesture and nods.

What next?

You and Oliver decide to head back toward the pokemon center and then over to the Lab to check out your new pokemon. You look through your BreedDex as you go for possible parentage for your Koffing, and with the moves it knows and its general appearance you conclude it must have had a Misdrevous or Mismagius as a recent ancestor.

You wave at the receptionist as you pass, and head on through to the lab. Professor Gum greets you warmly and you tell him the purpose of your visit.

"Well, feel free to use the machines," he tells you, "I'm a bit busy at the moment, but let me know if you need anything."

You scan the two poison pokemon and find a number of similarities in their general tissue. Surprisingly, Koffing's brain is more liquid than the amorphous Grimer. You postulate it's likely they evolve through some type of division.

You add the data to your research and head out the door. As you do, you spot Mina coming out of the Museum of History and wave her over. She walks up to you seeming excited and pulls you close for a hug and a peck on the cheek.

"I've made a lot of progress on my research, and I think I have an idea of where to go next," She tells you, "When we finish up here, I'd like to travel to the Ruins of Ket in Fina City. We'd be going through Roz Town and likely be traveling through the desert for a while. If that's still alright."

You explain your intention to head over to the gym, and both Oliver and Mina sort of cheer a little.

"I wasn't going to say anything, but I think you're too strong a trainer not to take the gym challenge," he tells you, then looks away, "I'd kind of hoped you and I could be rivals. Or you, me, and Harold anyway. It's your decision, but you've got a lot of potential and a great team."

The three of you chatter on for a bit as you take the walk to the gym. You make your way there quickly enough, and walk up to the receptionist.

"Hey, it's that tough trainer from the other day," she says, "Come to train? Or did one of your friends want to take the challenge?"

Your opponent looks a bit startled by Deino, but he shakes his head and shouts, "Go Nosepass! Rock throw."

Deino seems to be moving like lightning compared to her opponent, who is slow even to lift its arms. She stops near him and focuses, then a blast of dirt flies up around Nosepass. He is worn down to nothing in the one hit, only his innate sturdiness holding him together. He throws the rock, which barely does any damage to Deino.

Seems like he's using some pretty weak pokemon here. There's no way he can even scratch you.

"Dragonbreath," you command, hoping to just quickly finish the poor thing.

But instead of that, a blast of blue fire launches out from Deino's mouth. It engulfs the Nosepass and burns for a few seconds before vanishing entirely. The enemy has been vanquished and it seems Deino learned dragon rage.

You scan the pokemon with your pokedex. It's Minior, a rock and flying meteor pokemon. You decide to test out Deino's new move.

"Dragon Rage"

It blasts off at Minior and seems to drastically reduce its power. It's lagging in the air, but still rolls toward Deino and smacks into her. The attack does barely any damage. You shrug, and shout out for Deino to finish her opponent off with a bite. The trainer realizes it's over and calls back his pokemon.

"Damn, you've got some serious pokemon," he says, "You're more like a two-badger. I've got to tell the boss."

He bids you follow him, and your party makes its way to the main stage. Argyle is overseeing some training there, giving tips to the various trainers present. A big Tyranitar is doing drills on a steel slab, denting and damaging it with various attacks.

He smiles as he sees your group, "Another strong challenger in your group, huh?"

"Mister Argyle," the Jr. Trainer cuts in, "This guy wiped the floor with me. You're going to have to use your level 2 or even level 3 team."

"Oh is that so," he says, turning to you, "What do you think? You need more of a challenge than your average no badger?"

"No problem," he says, smiling brightly.

You let Larvitar out of his ball, and he is totally taken with the much larger green dinosaur. She seems just as taken with him, and the pair exchange an affectionate reaction to each other. You can't help but notice Argyle checking your Larvitar out, he seems to like what he sees as well.

"I think you can handle the level 2 team for sure," He says finally, "And it's my job to test you, not defeat you. I could do that easily, as you can see. So, shall we begin"

He walks up to a platform and pushes a button. Suddenly, a bunch of platforms raise up. You count nine in total, an they all contain six slots for pokeballs. All but one of them is missing varying numbers of pokeballs with the smallest having two.

You take your position across the large, rocky battlefield. Argyle shouts something unclear, than coughs and tries to clear his throat for about a minute.

"Scuse me," he says, "What I was trying to say was, this'll be a three on however many you got battle. Items allowed, but I'm limited to two of these."

He holds up a pair of super potions and smiles. Well this should be interesting, you think. You confirm the rule set and the countdown timer begins ticking. As it reaches one, you each throw out a pokeball.

Larvitar bursts forth onto the battlefield, and swiftly makes his way to cover in a jagged area to the left. Argyle has sent out an Omanyte, a revived fossil pokemon according to your pokedex, and a water type. You're at a bit of a disadvantage already.

"Bite," you call out.

"Water gun," Argyle shouts, pointing at Larvitar.

The little green pokemon jumps out from it's hiding spot, running in a serpentine pattern toward Omanyte. The squidfaced creature puffs up a little and tries to take aim at Larvitar. He charges up dark energy and bites down hard on the top of the creature's head. Your pokemon jumps back, fearing retaliation, but none comes. It seems that Omanyte flinched and lost its water, as it dribbles out of its mouth. He took a decent hit, too.

You order a screech, and hear Argyle call for another water gun. Larvitar manages to dip behind rocky cover and emits a piercing screech that chills you even at a distance. The Omanyte is shuddering and distracted, and fires off a water gun directly at a rock. Larvitar is still at full health, and Omanyte is mildly injured and shaken by screech.

You call out for a dragon dance, and Larvitar immediately shifts itself into a series of perfectly executed poses. He then seems to glow with a blueish light. Omanyte fires off another water gun, which Larvitar dodges nimbly. The little green dinosaur takes advantage of the situation and manages to get in a few extra poses after his dodge. Poor Omanyte looks frustrated, but Argyle is taking it in stride.

Larvitar rushes out toward the Omanyte for another bite now that its defenses are lowered. The shelled creature braces itself as your pokemon runs toward it. Larvitar charges its dark energy and chomps on Omanyte, delivering a devastating blow that almost takes it out. Omanyte hangs on defiantly and launches a point-blank water gun directly into your pokemon's chest for an impressive critical hit. Larvitar collapses, and Omanyte is barely standing.

You call out for Beldum to use its hidden power and finish the Omanyte off. He begins charging his attack and you see the blue energy pulse in front of him. As he hovers toward the Omanyte, the poor thing just collapses. Argyle looks a little surprised, but retrieves his pokemon. He sends out the same sort of odd electric geodude he used against Oliver, only this one is a little bigger.

Just as it enters the battlefield, Omanyte blasts of the icy sphere toward his opponent, doing a decent bit of damage to the surprised rock pokemon.

You and Argyle share a look with each other, as you repeat your previous commands. Your pokemon both charge up their attacks and Beldum lets off his blue sphere first. Geodude takes a hit, and he's really looking tired now, but he still soldiers on and launches into Beldum for a solid spark attack.

Beldum definately felt that one, but he's still looking good. Geodude is looking very worn by contrast and one or two more solid attacks might be enough to take him out.

Again, you and Argyle order your pokemon to attack each other with the same attacks. Beldum and Geodude stare each other down and begin to generate their various energies. They charge toward each other, but Beldum is faster that Geodude and his attack is especially strong this time around. Geodude takes the hit and falls to the ground mid-attack. Argyle smiles and recalls him, you see him mouth something to the ball.

The rocks come toward her just as a blast of earth rips the ground up around Larvitar and engulf it in dirt and sand. The rocks pass by Deino with no effect, and Larvitar is torn up terribly by an apparent critical hit. You've taken an early lead and the match may already be over.

You call out for a dragon rage, hoping to finish this match. The enemy Larvitar is preparing another rock slide. The two pokemon look determined, and Deino more so than you had seen her ever before. The rocks come crashing all around her, damaging her a fair amount, but she launches off the blast of blue fire at her opponent without hesitation. Larvitar falls to his knee, and he is returned to Argyle's pokeball a second later.

"Well I think I've seen enough," the gym leader says, "You've more than earned this."

He hands you a smooth, round badge just like Oliver's, which he tells you is the Pebble Badge. He also hands you the TM for Rock Polish. The two of you discuss the battle for a while, and you admit you got lucky with his Omanyte's constant issues.

"Well, I got your Larvitar in the end," He says with a laugh, "On the subject, let him out."

You do as Argyle asks and Larvitar is looking weak before you. He sprays it a few times with a super potion, which takes effect soon enough. He brings you and your pokemon over to his big Tyranitar, who is still hard at work. The massive dinosaur and your own little guy share some noises with each other.

Just then, Argyle asks his Tyranitar to demonstrate rock slide. He obliges, and your Larvitar tries it out for himself. In a few minutes, he has picked it up well enough for battle.

"He was going to learn it on his own soon anyway, figured I'd help him along. I've got another challenger in a few minutes so I have to rest these guys up and get ready. Please, come back any time for training.

You've managed through your first gym, and your friends approach you now to offer their congratulations. Oliver pats you on the back, and Mina hangs off your arm. They drag you out of the gym and to a restaurant not far from the pokemon center. You sit and enjoy a nice meal, celebrating both you and Oliver's victories at the Aulder City Gym. Rock Polish might be helpful for Larvitar, but it already knows Swords Dance.
Give Larvitar a Hard Stone to hold, now that it knows a rock move.
Koffing knows Psybeam? Might be worth having it hold the Twistedspoon for now, if we're having Beldum hold the Nevermeltice.
I'd say we'd be trying to sell 1 Hard Stone, the Oval Stone, and the Rock Polish TM.

You, Oliver, and Mina discuss your plans for the following day while you sit enjoying a few drinks after dinner. Everyone feels as though they have done as much as they can in Aulder, and that it is time to move forward. You'll be taking the interegional route 117 south, and it is known to have very developed roads for automobile transport. You imagine you could find automobile transport through the route if you wanted to, and that would cut down on your travel time at the expense of your wallet.

You also would be missing out on the trainers that are known to populate the route, though their aren't many pokemon there. Thinking of trainers, you have been thinking about challenging Oliver to a pokemon battle. You could do that tonight before you have to head off to bed, you think.

You decide its best to walk there in order to get some decent training in along the way. Besides, this journey ought to be an adventure and getting a ride is too easy. Oliver is excited by the prospect that he'll get to battle some trainers, though Mina looks less than thrilled with the idea of a long walk.

The three of you leave the restaurant and head back toward the pokemon center, and Oliver keeps talking about battling those trainers. He's so excited, you start to feel it too.

"Oliver," you say, stopping not far from the restaurant, "Lets go over to the lot and battle. I want to see how I stack up now that we've both got a badge."

He nods and starts walking so quickly toward the lot that he's practically running, and Mina starts laughing at how enthusiasic he is. You get there in a short time, and there are few people here. You line up far apart from each other, creating a large space for your match. You discuss and set the rules, then Mina begins the countdown.

Gear Grind!"

"Earth Power"

Klink begins spinning faster and faster, floating toward Deino menacingly. Your little dragon lowers its head, charging power. When Klink comes a few feet from her, she lifts her head and a pillar of dirt erupts around the mechanical pokemon. Klink begins sputtering as the dirt works its way into its body, and it rotation slows momentarily. It then grinds itself even quicker, and splits, launching toward Deino and cutting into your pokemon for two solid hits.

After its attack, the Klink slows even more, it seems like it's on its last legs. Deino is still doing pretty well, though she's definately hurting from that last attack.

"Finish it off with a dragon rage"

"Another gear grind," Oliver commands, looking a little desperate.

Deino blasts off a blue sphere of dragonic fire in a near instant, landing perfectly on the left face of its opponent. The Klink decends to the ground, smoulering with blueish flame. Oliver recalls it and throws a pokeball in one quick motion, he sure is fast. Out pops his Nidorina, who plants her feet firmly and glares at Deino. She looks tough, and you can tell she's received a great deal of benefit from Oliver's training.

As you observe Nidorina, you hear Oliver call for a double kick and she takes off rapidly toward Deino. You call out your command as quickly as you can, but it was always too late. Nidorina blasts with a critical kick to Deino's head that neartly takes her out. The second one is more than enough to take her out.

You and Oliver are matched up evenly at this point in the battle, but that Nidorina of his may be stronger than any of your pokemon. Oliver is smiling, but his eyes are sharp and he is focused on the battle. You throw out a pokeball.

"Psybeam," you shout, and Oliver looks surprised.

"Bite," He shouts, looking at you with determination.

His Nidorina closes the distance between your two pokemon, while Koffing closes his eyes and focuses. She bites down on his head, doing a decent amount off damage. You think Koffing has flinched since his attack does not come back toward Nidorina, but then a blast of energy shoots forward and harms her.

Both pokemon are hurting a little, Nidorina more than Koffing, but only barely.

You have an idea and shout out to Koffing, "Go up and smokescreen, try to lose it."

"Try using the special move we've been working on," Olvier calls out with an intense look.

Nidorina opens her mouth and takes aim at Koffing, who is levitating higher into the air releasing dark smoke from its pores. A blue sphere similar to that which Beldum makes with his hidden power ice begins to form inside. Koffing starts launching smoke out of its mouth, which floats all around the battlefield and is hit with a blue beam. His skin begins to frost over and it looks like the hit was a solid one, but nowhere near a complete ice beam.

You look over to Oliver, who has a coy smile on his face and a confident look in his eye.

The battlefield is now clouded with smoke that ought to obscure Nidorina's vision somewhat. Your order a psybeam and Oliver commands Nidorina to regroup itself and use its ice attack again. Koffing is in an advantageous position and focuses its psybeam. Nidorina's blue beam is even briefer this time around, though it still stings a bit.

Koffing regroups quickly an launches off a purple beam that connects well with the enemy Nidorina. She takes the attack pretty well, but she is certainly looking worn out. Koffing is as well, it could be anyone's battle.

You hope you can finish off this tough opponent, and command Koffing to let off another psybeam. Oliver switches tactics, realizing the ice beam still needs work, and calls out for bite. Nidorina rushes off toward Koffing, charging dark energy in her mouth. She bites down near Koffing, but misses and is struck directly by his psybeam. Nidorina flies back from the force and hits the ground hard. She tries to stand, but can't fully muster the strength. Oliver recalls her and sends out his Grimer.

Good strategy. I imagine he wanted to use that on Deino or Larvitar.
He might be playing a longer game though - we're heading into a Grassy region on the road to the next city.

Oliver's smile has fades slightly, but his look of determination has only grown more intense. You look him in the eyes and call out for a pain split while he orders Grimer to bite The slime pokemon advances on Koffing, when suddenly both pokemon are wrapped in a strange energy and float up. They are thrown wildly around by an unseen force and by the end of it Koffing looks almost completely restored. Grimer looks pretty bad by comparison, but he launches toward the floating purple pokemon for a decent bite that does some damage. Koffing is still looking a lot better than before though.

"Grimer, try to bite it again!"

"Smokescreen!"

Koffing begins to launch off dark smoke from its pores and shoots off huge rings from its mouth toward Grimer. It mixes with the previous smoke, which had been fading, and obscures your pokemon. Koffing floats upward as Grimer flies toward your pokemon. The dark energy in its mouth charges, and it bites down just a few inches from your pokemon. The two pokemon separate and regroup.

"Try to avoid it and use bite," Oliver cries out desperately.

Larvitar roars out with its tiny voice and actually sounds frightening even to you for a moment. The green dinosaur gathers his energy while Grimer charges toward him . Larvitar bends forward and launches stones from the ports along his back directly toward the purple pokemon. The stones smash into him for a powerful blow that stops him dead in his tracks.

There is silence for a moment, then Oliver recalls his pokemon. You have won the battle, taking out three pokemon while Oliver only managed one. Your friend walks toward you with a smile, and offers a hand. You take it in a firm grasp and he congratulates you.

You talk with Oliver about his ice beam, and ask him if Nidorina could demonstrate it again so you can study it. He pulls out his pokedex and you hear a chime on your own. He tells you he sent you all of his videos of her training so far, and that he'd love to know what your research yields.

You make it to the pokemon center and bid your friends a good night as they head off to bed. Mina kisses you and congratulates you once again for your victory, telling you she's proud you beat a battle major.

You let Koffing out of his ball as they go in, and you tell him your proud of his performance earlier. He watches you intensely as you speak, closes his eyes, and lets out a tiny white smoke ring that floats languidly around your head. It actually smells kind of nice, in a weird way He bumps into you, then smiles brightly.

You give your pokemon to the nurse so they can get a good rejuvenating rest, and head to the back for one of your own.

The next day, Oliver and Mina meet you in the lobby with their gear packed. You grab a quick breakfast and some coffee for the road and then head off toward the south of the city. You find the entrance to route 117 easily enough by following some signs. It's flat and fairly featureless, and you travel along uneventfully for an hour or so. You chat as you go, discussing battlefield tactics and pokemon moves.

You decide you want to look around for a trainer and you start looking for the nerdy types first. You've always been interested in those trainers, since they often choose man-made pokemon which you too enjoy. Plus they always have something interesting to talk about. You start to wonder if others see you as a super nerd, but you shake off the thought.

You also search for those odd trainers with psychic powers, or who claim as such anyway. You find one sitting in a meditative position, ostensibly working on his spoon bending with what seems to be a little success. You also find a pair of super nerds arguing over something or another.

"You're both wrong," you say, cutting into their conversation, "Using either an up-grade or a dubious disk on a Porygon is unforgivable. Then again not everyone can appreciate the charm of the first generation."

They both just sort of stare at you, and then start shouting at you. They argue against Porygon both aesthetically and when it comes to combat specifications. This goes on for several minutes and you can't really refute them, but despite your failure you seem to have won them over. It turns out they both have Porygon of their own, and they ask to battle your own with their upgraded versions to prove their points. They're disappointed to discover you have no Porygon of their own, but the battle offer stands.

You tell them about your various interests in studying pokemon physiology, specifically non-organic, polymorphic, and polycephalic pokemon. They share your enthusiasm for non-organic pokemon in particular, and are excited by your status as a junior professor. They introduce themselves, the one with glasses is called Kelvin and the fat one is Marvin.

You ask for a battle with both of them and for any information they have on these pokemon. They load you with information on Porygon, and each one promises you something special if you win. You've already received some pretty useful files from Kelvin on Porygon tweaking and making sharpen and conversion moves more effective. Marvin gives you a pirated homemade TM for shockwave, he tells you it'll probably just be single-use.

You suggest they go up against you in a double battle, to which they both agree. It will be their two Porygon against your two pokemon, for the standard bet. They line up against you in one of the free arenas similar to those where other trainers are battling. You call Mina over, Oliver seems to be negotiating a battle of his own with a pretty girl. She wishes you luck, and then starts counting down.

You face down the two nerdy trainers, and Mina calls for the match to start. You throw out two pokeballs, and they each throw out one. Kelvin has sent out a Porygon-Z and Marvin a Porygon2, neither pokemon seems to be particularly experienced but you know they'll be a challenge. Porygon2 is oddly beautiful, it looks like and acts like a pokemon in every way. It has smooth motions and it makes subtle moves as it idles like a living creature. Porygon-Z by contrast has more jerking motions when it moves, and seems to freeze in place for seconds at a time.
You've thrown out your two poison type pokemon, Koffing and Grimer, the latter of whom you are using in battle for the first time. Koffing has proven himself, but Grimer is a good deal less experienced than he is in general. He does have very few weaknesses though, and should be able to pull his own.

You command your pokemon to mix their attacks, poison gas and smokescreen, into one. They begin to launch their respective gasses toward each other, with the chemicals mixing into a swirling cloud. Porygon 2 launches a psybeam toward Koffing, which does a severe amount of damage. Porygon-Z meanwhile just sits there generating dark energy to its head, a blast off of smoke from the top in the shape of an exclamation point punctuating its move.

Your own pokemon seem to have created a hazard on the battlefield, but it has yet to poison any of your foes. You prepare your next move.

You order a poison fang on Porygon-Z an a sludge on Porygon2. Marvin commands his pokemon to fire off another psybeam at Koffing, while Kelvin orders a shock wave at Grimer. The two cybernetic pokemon end up caught in the clouds, firing wildly and missing their targets entirely.

When they both appear from inside the clouds, your pokemon make their moves. Koffing moves first, vomiting forth a sludge that slams against a poisoned Porygon2 for a decent amount of damage. Grimer sinks his poison coated fangs into his target, damaging the cybernetic creature and badly poisoning it.

Both virtual pokemon are now poisoned, and it chips away at their health. Grimer is still in top shape, but everyone else looks to be around or above half strength, with Koffing looking the weakest.

You order Koffing to pain split with Porygon-Z, and Grimer to disable the other computerized duck. The two nerds repeat their commands, with the same targets and their pokemon move. Porygon-Z manages a solid shock wave on Grimer, which hurts your bulky slime pokemon somewhat. Porygon2 just can't get it together at all, his psybeam flying up into the air. Koffing and Porygon-Z are caught up by pain split, and Grimer throws a ball of clear slime right on Porygon2's face.

When they are released from the strange attack, Koffing has recovered a little and Porygon has been further damaged. It really starts to look weak after the toxic poison takes its toll and you can tell its barely hanging on. Porygon2 is still in decent shape, but less so than either of your pokemon.

You command your poison pokemon to attack, ordering a poison fang on Porygon2 and a sludge at Porygon-Z. The two nerds switch up their targets, with the disabled Porygon2 now targeting Grimer with a signal beam. It does a fair amount of damage, hitting him in a critical spot, but its mitigated greatly by Grimer's impressive bulk when it comes to special attacks.

Porygon-Z launches a psybeam this time, and it fires directly at your Koffing. It is an especially powerful blast, especially given the boost in power that nasty plot is giving him, and Koffing does not withstand it for very long. He faints and you recall him, then watch Grimer go to work, seemingly flying off toward Porygon2 and biting down with his poison jaws. As Porygon2 sinks to the ground and is recalled by Marvin, you notice Grimer continues to float in the air.

The toxic poison is really taking its toll on the enemy Porygon-Z, and you're certain it will faint on its own if you can survive the next attack. Unfortunately, you doubt Grimer will make it if the enemy's next attack hits.
