You sit at your desk, the hum of machinery fills the rusted metal halls of your newly inherited space station, if you could call it that, it was a floating hunk of metal that was used during the war as a ship detector, if anyone bothered to destroy it, ships were detected.
The lights flicker and go out, you sit in darkness for a while until auxiliary power kicks in. You sigh, crossing your arms and lean back into your chair, what were you going to do with this? Scrapping it seemed like a better idea by the minute, but you couldn’t, this is everything you had, the war took a toll on your family, you lost most assets, except this, the one thing that was supposed to be destroyed.
You chuckle to yourself at the irony, and set off to figure out just what you need to do.

A schematic of the space station indicates that a few rooms are depressurized, including storage which seems like the only important one. Something catches your eye, one of the rooms seems like a launch bay in the way it was designed, maybe the station was a hideout for officials, or maybe your father wanted to do something before his death, either way there are more important things.
The minimal crew necessary for the station was 10, at least officially, according to your military knowledge, that was optimal the actual minimal crew being around 5 and even less depending on how much you want to overwork them and their skill.
You remember someone that would be perfect for this situation, and engineer you met during the war, Scots? Yeah, he had the accent to go along with the name as well. You should pay him a visit, he was in a lot of debt if your memory serves you right, if he still lives he will probably want to get off Karst station.
Maybe you could leverage him in working for free until you get stuff running, although you feel that one man and 2000 credits are not going to cut it, well, it’s a start.
Once you get it operational, it will need to bring in a profit, somehow, you’re still not sure what you are going to do in that regard, maybe some ideas will come to you.
Also life support should be a priority, looking for a supplier would also be a good idea, maybe get yourself some hydroponics so you could sustain the station, Scots should figure that out.
What were you going to do?

There isn’t much you can do without an engineer, so checking up on Scots seems like the best thing to do for now, if his immeasurable debt didn’t get kill thrown out of an airlock.
You jump into your fighter, it served you well in the war, you still remember how your cruiser was blown to shit by Imperials, only you made it out, The Dauntless and all of its crew and assets considered destroyed, nobody would check up on you, and even if they did Salvage Law came into play, It was pretty beat up when you almost ran it into Karst station, that’s when you met Scots for the first time, he almost cried when he saw a Confederate Fighter in the pitiful state it was in, you weren’t any better.
You push thoughts away as you set course. You hated waiting like a moron, this ship was for dogfighting not grocery trips, well might as well see what your hunk of junk could do to get some money in.
In your system there were 3 planets that you deemed interesting, two of them were desert planets and the other was a tundra world just a tad outside of the Goldilocks Zone, certainly some sort of water could be extracted from there? The desert worlds both are extremely rich in minerals, but goddamn you weren’t going to fuck with those.
They were called the Death Sisters, people tried to extract but the high gravity made it impossible without some specialized ships, after the transports crashed and burned, the salvagers followed, although that could be of use, sending them to literal death in the chase for money could bring in a pretty penny.
You look up from your console at the sight of Karst station, Thousands of ships flock around it, from shuttles to battlecruisers, It was such an economical hub a number of baby stations sprung out around it.
Your comms console flickers to life.
“This is Karst Station do you wish to dock?”
“Sure do”
“Identify yourself”
“Confederate fighter”
The man on the station tries to speak but decides against it.
“Free to dock, location has been sent to you, Enjoy your stay’
You head in, and are immediately assaulted by a myriad of ads and offers, shit like this will not fly on your station.
You dock and exit your ships cockpit. The nearby engineers, mechanics and ship enthusiasts turn to look at your ship, one of them whistles and leans over a railing.
“How in the hell did you get your hand on one of those?”
“Confidential “ You shout as you head into the maze of corridors and elevators, the variety of smells was the best way to find your way on Karst station, no indicators or signs. You think where someone like Scots would be, but you don’t need to, he is hoisted up on a wall by a brute who is probably there to collect.

You approach the sad display and pipe up.
“Excuuuuuuse me gentlemen “
The brute turns to speak loosening his grip on Scots
“Get lost moron, unless you want your shit kicked in too”
His sight returns to Scots, who has wiggled his way to a wrench and strikes him across the temple, the sheer size of the man carries him through the pain, he tries to stand up but is stopped by a flurry of vicious wrench hits, the man is dead or dying.
You look at Scots who is gasping for air.
“ Wow Scots you really CAN do anything with a wrench”
His eyes move from the floor and lock with yours, a grin is drawn on his face, and he charges you.
“ Dickie lad where the hell have you been!?”
He hugs you.
“ You really saved my arse there! What brings you back to this shithole?”
“ Well, you do”
He steps back and taps his chest with the bloody wrench
“ Me ? Don’t tell me you got that beauty shitted up again.”
“ Not that, although there is something that is shitted up and needs your love and care”
His face scrunches up
“ You scare me when you say that Dickie. Anyways, let’s talk this over a drink!”
He steps over the dead brute and throws his hand over your shoulder.
“ I know this really nice bar down on lev- actually they kicked me out, well maybe having a former Confederate Ace will help don’t you think? “ He clicks his tongue
Travelling around the station brings back lots of memories, some good some bad, all of them because of Scots.
Scots pushes you into a doorway, the fog of the place hits you like a wall, patrons are sitting at tables, most of them are lower class citizens of the station, they are quite loud. You find a table somewhere in the corner and take a seat. The bartender rushes out and starts yelling.
“ GOD FUCKING DAMMIT SCOTS I TOLD YOU IF I SEE YOUR OILY ASS HERE AGAIN I WILL SHOVE EVERY BOTTLE OF WHISKY I HAVE UP IT”
Scots rises from his chair and tries to calm him down
“Hey man don’t yell don’t you see who I have here” He gestures toward you
“WHY WOULD I CARE” the man is not impressed
“ Because this right here is THE Richard Boston “
The bartender recoils
“ You mean I have the Boston menace in my bar? First round is on the house boys!”
You get the sense that the drinks he brought you are pretty nifty for this kind of establishment

“What have you been up to Scots?”
He chugs his whisky in a couple silent gulps
“ Ah, well, not much really, a blown fuse here, a ship there, a military mech somewhere else “
“ A mech?”
“ Some fed came looking for someone who could make a prototype, gave me a blank check and fucked off”
“ And how much debt did you get rid of with that check”
He looks into his glass and back at you smiling
“ All of it”
The both of you laugh.
“ How about you Ace? Last time I saw you you were heading home “
“Well, I did but… You heard of the Imperial planet buster?”
“ Fuck yeah I did, say what you will about Imps but they get shit done.” His face drops in realization. “ Don’t tell me they hit Journey”
Your grip tightens on your glass of whisky, you drink all of it
“ Your family?”
“ Mother was planetside, probably tending to her garden, she loved it, Dad died somehow in the line of duty, I was not privy to it, brother lost it after he heard what happened, took off and never saw him again.”
“ Shit lad, I didn’t know, you had investments right? Money from somewhere?”
“ Dad prepared for everything , except a huge fucking asteroid. “
“ Goddamn lad, you started from scratch?”
“ Not really, I got a space station that was dad’s, a sensor”
He stifles a laugh
“ What a fucking legacy “
“ That’s why I’m here, the thing is a piece of shit as you probably know already”
“ Well, every self-respecting engineer made one, plenty of work during the war, good practice for the new guys”
“ I want you to come with me, I have jack shit and I need a good man seeing to the thing, I only have 2000 creds so I can’t pay you yet, but I can make it up t-“
Scots raises a hand
“ That’s all I need to know, when are we leaving?”
“I said I can’t pay you”
“ You also said you are gonna take off this hell hole, which will clear my debt. You’re my best friend Ace, maybe even my only one, I’m coming “
You take a shot of whisky in unison
“I also want to be self-sufficient , can’t stand those fucking life support bloodsuckers”
“ That means a Hydroponics bay, and that’s not cheap”
“ What do you appraise it at?”
“ A good one maybe 30000, for you like 10000”
You hold your head
“ How much crew do you have”
“ Only you “
“I know a few people, willing to join, I only have so much leverage so you have to pick one. There is an old Doc, only needs food and air, he will drink his own piss if it comes to it, and old squad medic I think, There is also a botanist chick I know, might come in handy with the hydroponics bay, and also you know other … stuff” He winks “ Some Bouncer who didn’t kick my ass, pretty cool guy, not sure security is that important right now but I just put it out there”

Scots is fricking awesome.

Can we do hydro without botanist chick? If no, then take her.
If yes, that medic sounds like an interesting guy.
>>
>>1931060
you can do it but maintaining it would be more difficult.
>>
>>1931050

The sensible person in me says we should look into the botanist and see if we can convince her to join. Since having some plants will help keep the station afloat later, with both food and air.

The doctor also sounds like someone we should talk to as well. See if he's willing to leave a federation space station to come work at a free lance station without the federation over head.

Not sure about the bouncer though. It will be nice to have some muscle... but when it's just us two I don't think having a bouncer will be necessary.

So lets go talk to the doc and botanist. See if either of them are up for coming with us to the station. Another thought, talking to these people will also help us determine if their personalities will go well with our own. So we don't end up with someone we constantly fight with.

Personally I hope we can get the doc and botanist, but without knowing anything about these people before hand. Without meeting them, it's harder to decide.

Good thinking. Its super important with so few people onboard that they all click together.

Also, if we are talking to both of them but can only swing one of them to our side, lets try to set things up the way that we maybe could fully employ the other one when station is in better shape and we start generating income.

“Well to be blunt, that thing is a massive health hazard, so a doctor seems like a necessity.”
“Cheer up Ace, all towards the better!”
You head down the winding alleyways and corridors towards the medbay, blood, medicine, and corruption fill the air. A small nook in the wall turns out to be an office, drawings line the walls alongside magazines and handwriting.
“Hey Doc, got a friend here who needs your help”
The old man doesn’t turn
“Hello Richard, I heard of what happened, I was a friend of your fathers, made his hands and feet, I know of the station and I am ready to go at your earliest convenience”
Scots stays in the doorway with his mouth open
“We will talk more once we get to the station, I believe you still have some work to do here, I will meet you at the docks, now leave.”
You oblige and head out into the rest of the medbay.
“That…. Was… uhh..”
Scots puffs his chest
“Well I guess I still have a favor to call in”
“Let’s see the botanist lady “
“ That’s a bit far, she likes her privacy”
You spend a good while searching for this lady, you eventually found her in a cupola, it resembles the one your mother had before… She is tending to some flowers when she notices you, the stench of oil and blood is easily felt.
“ Hey there Missy I hav-“
“do you want an orchid up your urethra Scots?”
“Uhh.. n-no”
“Then let the mister next to you talk”
You step up from behind Scots and speak up
“ I own a space station, a very nasty one, I supposed a botanist could help if we were to build a hydroponics bay”
She stops watering her plants and turns to you
“Is it far away?”
“Yes”
“Good, im in”
“Just like that?”
“Yep”
“I can’t pay you”
“Pay me for what? This is what I love, I don’t need any money”
She smiles warmly
“Very well, dock number 18”
“I’ll be right there, I need pack a few things”
You leave and turn towards Scots.

“Even if we get the station up and running, were still broke as shit, I think we should look in to some business don’t you think?”
“Uhh, that’s not my thing, you’re the business scion, I can show you to the right parts of the station, but that’s it”
As soon as you take the elevator up the view changes completely, sweaty mechanics are replaced with men in suits, The elevator dings and you enter the reception.
“Hello and welcome to Karst industries how may I help you?”
“I am the owner of a small space station and I wished to inquire about any opportunities ?”
The lady thinks for a minute before handing you a note.” Talk to Mister Willman he deals with the outlying stations “
You head to one of the bigger offices and are presented with a number.
You wait your turn for a bit before Willman gets out of his office shaking the hand of a new partner.
He calls next, but stops himself when he sees you
“Richard? I heard what happened, come in”
You walk into his immaculate white office, you knew he was a neat freak but this was a bit much.
“I’m sorry about your family, how are you holding up?”
“I’m alright, my father left me a space station”
His eyes widen
“Oh? That’s good, I understand why you are here, looking for business ?”
“Yes I am, now, you have to understand I have a sensor station that is barley holding itself in one piece, I’m looking for something I could do in the future.”
He chuckles
“How about a grant?”
“A grant?”
“ The ministry gave me power do offer such grants to up and coming businesses, your father was a shrewd man, I hope you are too. The grant is 100000 credits as long as by the end of the year you are self-sustaining, have at least a couple of sources of income and tier C living conditions for the crew. Are you up to it?”

I have a question for you anon. Are you trying to rush through the set up portion of the story to get to actual story? Because it seems awfully conveniant that we have so many contacts who seem to know everything about is already. And that people are willong to work with/ for us, without us doing any convincing. I'm going to assume we're getting an easy break on things now because things will be much harder later.

I may be looking a gift horse in the mouth, due to the lack viewable difficulty so far. But can you please maybe make things have some level of difficulty?

>Ask for more information
Ask more about the loan. Such as interest rate, what will be the Federations input to our station if we become stable, do they have any leads to actual paying work (grants are fine, but we need stable income or else the bamk will just claim our station agter a year), what is a tier c living conditions, how self sustaining, how many sources of income?
>>

to be blunt you are getting this much help because your planet literally got destroyed and you come from a wealthy family who is pretty much gone. Don't get used to it tho. I'm sorry if it feels like im rushing it, i had something else to do and i tried multitasking.

He offers you a drink as you try to take in the avalanche of information you were presented with.
“Hold on, w-what are C living conditions? What if don’t manage to get all the stuff done? What do you get in all of this?”
He smiles and sits next to you
“ I knew it wouldn’t be that easy. Well, C living conditions are as follows: air, food ,water, AC, Some sort of entertainment , and a bed. If you don’t get everything done you have to pay back our money or we will seize assets, we get standard Federation tax which is 10% from your profits and in case of war your support in any way possible. “
You set your glass down and lean forward, he cringes at you not using a coaster.
“You said something about sources of income? What do you mean?”
“ Just have some small businesses paying enough rent to turn a profit. You should look around the commercial district to see if someone would like to expand”
“ Also how self-sustaining does the station have to be?”
He adjusts his tie and stands up
“You need your own source of water ,food, air, and power. A hydroponics bay and a few solar panels should do most of the work, not sure about the water.”
He grabs a folded towel and cleans the table, after which he places a coaster under your glass.

The Hydroponics should be pretty simple once we get our crew aboard. As for water, I think it was mentioned earlier there's a easy-access source of ice not too far from the station. If we can get some then get a water filtration/recycling deal going on, it should be serviceable.

“Thanks for the offer, but I will have to refuse.”
“That’s understandable, you should still go to the commercial district for any business”
You finish your drink and leave, Scots is chatting up an intern outside the office
“Ah, this lad right here is an ace pilot did you know that?”
The young lady idly smiles and takes her leave
“Can’t blame me for trying. Got anything?”
“We should try to get some stores to move in, where’s the commercial district?”
“Are you sure that’s a good idea? The station is a bloody sensor, we should wait until we have something to offer”
You nod.
“Well, that’s everything I can think of, we should get to the docks”
You go and collect each of your new employees and head to the docks.
The Doctor and the botanist seem to be engage in quite a heated conversation.
“Listen lady, I know the Romusula is great, but it still hasn’t been tested enough, we can’t spend thousands of credits to generate a huge placebo effect.”
“But it has been tested! If we keep being afraid of progress we are actively killing people can’t you see?”
“That may be true, but not testing could lead to as much death as postponing the use of Rom-“
They both turn to you and Scots
“ I hope you are getting to know eachother?”
The doctor adjusts his glasses and speaks
“ Yes, Violet here is an advocate of a newly discovered plant that has some… interesting medicinal properties . They have not been completely tested as of yet”
“It could save lives!” she crosses her hands and puts, turning her head, creating a wave of blonde hair between you.
“How are we supposed to fit in a single fighter anyway? It’s a one person ship.”
Scots caresses the ship he spent months working on and goes on to list the many modifications he has made to it, and how fitting wouldn’t be a problem with the extended hull.
You depart from Karst station making your way back home.

You’ve been here many times so what comes next is second nature to you. You drop out of FTL and dip your fighters nose down, considering they didn’t try to engage or hail they thought your sensors couldn’t catch them, you have to thank Scots after you turn them into scrap.
They drop out as soon as you turn back around and start firing, first round of shots overloads their shield generator, the only protection is the hull now, that was the best you could do with the element of surprise, Scots starts muttering a lively tune, the rest of your crew are looking at each other with fear written on their faces.
“Turbulence” Scots pipes up before hitting a particularly high note.
As you pass the enemy ship it turns thrusters to full and is on your tail in an instant, impressive from a ship in that state.

You remember an old trick your drill sergeant taught you, it came in handy quite a few times, you accelerate, the bigger and slower shuttle struggling to keep up.
After it starts drifting away, you drop and slow down, the enemy flying over your head, anything that wasn’t tied down hits the ceiling.
Your weapons heat up and fire at his overworked engines, he tries to evade but one of your lasers hits his right engine sending him in a spiral, another shot hits his left side and evens out the spin somewhat.

“How much money did you have to collect?”
“ 10000 credits, this Scots fellow is not a wise man”
Scots raises his eyes from the floor, but doesn’t dare to contradict that statement. Violet chuckles
“Give me a reason why I shouldn’t kill you right now and collect the bounty you probably have on your heads.”

Starter capital get!

Now, what can a space station offer as a business:
Fuel depot
Repair station
Waystation with quarters and entertainment for ship crews
Zero-g manufacturing
Zero-g scientific experiments (especially of a kind you don't want to conduct near populated places)
Power generation

Depending on the local law:
Tax haven
Place for businesses illegal elsewhere

What initial investments would be needed for each of these?

Support.
Hopefully it wont bite us in the ass.

I think we could do refuel and small repairs right away. Not sure how profitable that would be given we are a bit off the way, I think.
Looking back, few rooms including storage are depressurized, so we would need to take care of that first before we open up for tourism.
We need to fix main generator and take care of solar.
There is also that launch bay.
>>
>>1933121
And make hydro installation.
>>

The only ones you could do soon are the fuel depot, repair station, and power generation.

Scots heads up to your seat and slaps you on the back
“That was fun lad, should we get going now?”
The doctor is checking Violets pulse as she is giving you a stare
“You don’t have to get used to it”
She sighs with relief and rests her head on the adjacent seat.
The sight of your sickly space station is surprisingly pleasant, you look into the back of the ship and gauge the reaction of the crew. Violet is trying to hide her disgust as best she can, The Doc doesn’t seem interested in the slightest, and Scots isn’t shy in expressing his opinion.
“ Wow lad that is a Grade S piece of shit “ His input is…. appreciated
You dock, the rusted latches screech, the metal bends.
You lead your employees into your office to get them up to speed.
“As you can see the station isn’t in the best condition, we need to get basic things like power and thrusters online.” The lights flicker
“We also need some hydroponics, the problem is we lack the funds to get a proper one yet, does anyone know how we could do it cheaply ? ”
Violet grabs her chin and looks at you.
“We could try a vine approach. I saw it when I was little”
“What does that entail exactly?”
“Well, we need some pipes that the vines are going to grow on, these need to be all around the ship, and they will some time to grow, we can take some seeds from Karst station, they also use a lot of water, so we should do something about that”
You look over your console and remember the tundra planet in your system
“We have a frozen planet we could excavate ice from”
Scots scoffs
“And are you going to pull the money out of your ass Dickie? Were broke”
The Doctor rubs his hands before speaking
“Maybe we could get someone else to do it? We could host their ships and they give us a portion of the excavated ice”
“We can’t host shit yet, but that could be a good idea for later on” You mark it down in a little notebook
“What is the status on the generator? That seems like a priority.” Scots asks
“I think it just needs some maintaining, the thrusters and solar panels I have no idea.”
“Well I’m going down to check on it” He closes the door with a clunk.

“Doc you can go ahead and just pick a room you want as the medbay, there isn’t an assigned one”
“Very well, I’m glad I brought my medical supplies with me” He marks down a room somewhere in the middle of the station.
“ Violet do you think you could give me the things you would need to get the vines going?”
She stutters and looks around the now empty office
“S-sure, yea so here is what you need”
>A bag of vine seeds (Pleuricus, do NOT mistake it for Perlicus !!)
>Water (depends on how much the vines have grown)
>Pipes with holes in them, sort of like a flamethrower

>Ideas for making money
- Rest stop for undesirables/pirates (we have a mechanic to fix their ships, a doc to fix their body and they can't complain about the accommodation since they're criminals)
- Base of operations (we could do this early on, until we get enough credits for better stuff; use the fighter to taxi people/collect bounties, station to cut costs on R&R time)
- Mobile refueling station (If we can get the thrusters back online, we can move the station to frequently visited points in space for refueling)
- Temporary storage (We could rent parts of the station out for storage, gets us immediate cash flow and doesn't cost anything; we can store "borrowed" items for even more money)
- Orbital defense platform (More of a long term thing, but we take contracts from planets (or highest bidder) to blast their enemies from space)
>>
>>1933251
You can't access it yet
>>
>>1933252
The thrusters are for staying in orbit more than actual travel, you could upgrade them later if you wanted.

“I have been thinking about it, there are a lot of options, too bad we can’t afford most of them yet, even so we could maybe host some people that don’t want to be found, refuel and repair. Some basic stuff. Maybe storage? We could rent some rooms, we don’t have anything to do with them anyway. For now this will more of a HQ than anything else.”
She nods
“Well at least you have some ideas, and… can I be honest with you?”
“Always”
“I-I don’t feel comfortable being around criminals, I understand it’s necessary but still, could you keep to a minimum ?
You try to speak but she interrupts.
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t complain, I wanted to leave a-and you will do what’s best right?”
Her eyes dart around your face.
“Right”
“Good”
She leaves as well, you are alone once more in your office, the lights seem brighter and the red emergency ones shut down, Scots finished.

Even if the power is back on, there is still a lot of stuff to do, might as well help Scots. You find him pulling at a panel that has been sealed with rust to the wall.
“Need a hand?”
“I could use about 2 battlecruisers worth of pulling power Dickie,so move your ass”
After a couple pulls, the panel gives way and you are assaulted by a wall of dust. Scots swears under his breath and jams his hand inside pulling a few of the wires loose and takes a look at them.
“Lad if I knew this is what I was getting into I would’ve let that dipshit strangle me”
“The airlocks still work”
“I know you’re trying to be witty but I highly doubt anything works on this piece of shit.”
He fiddles with the bunch of wires and some of the vents start spinning.
“This will be a lot of work, with your help we could do it in like a week, getting it functional, that is. “
You spend the next few days helping Scots with repairs. You manage to get the station functional although the solar panels and hull breaches will require space walks. Scots also managed to get some of the broken airlocks to close making a bunch of rooms including storage. The Doctor has made his impromptu medbay and is ready to treat most injuries that may occur, you hope. Violet turned her room green with plants and flowers, you also managed to seal some leaks in the life support extending it to 5 weeks.

Most of the rooms seem empty, probably used as secondary storage, the main one being larger and at the end of the corridor. The doors open with a loud hiss, the ceiling, the floor, the walls , are all covered in claw marks and dried blood, crates are broken on the floor, a multitude of devices spill from them. In the middle of the room is a large, dark and lifeless carcass, as you enter screams bounce off the walls and into your head, forcing you to kneel, the world spins.

You raise your head, the carcass starts standing up on its hind legs, it bellows and starts charging you, Scots is nowhere to be seen, maybe he has something for this, dodging to the side you manage to avoid its tackle, it headbutts the wall in frustration and turns around again, the screaming is back again, this time not disabling. From its back bubbles start raising, they form into humanoid shapes and start shooting at you with Imp weapons, what is this thing? You duck for cover and return fire to the best of your abilities. You need a plan, and a good one.

With practiced ease you manage to pop the heads of three, their ghostly bodies merge back with the carcass, the rest of them scream at the loss and shoot wildly around the room, the large body starts charging your pile of boxes, rolling out of the way you are sent flying by the impact…….
--------------------------------------
You fall, fuck the imps and fuck their obsession with anti-air, your fighter spins out of control and crashes into a pile of snow on the ground.
Don’t put parachutes on the fighters they said, it will add useless weight they said, they didn’t think the weight doesn’t matter in FUCKING SPACE.
You tumble towards the surface of Exodus, it’s avian denizens already picking at the dead bodies, one of the bigger ones spots you and dives, pulling out the Imperial pistol you stole, you shoot and somehow manage to hit it in the right wing.
Still hungry it tries to grab you, little did it know you were thinking of the same thing, climbing onto its back you manage to glide it down to a pile of snow, the both of you crash.
--------------------------------------
Your back impacts the other side of storage, looking up at the thing you notice Scots pulling a lever and dropping part of a beam which swings into the side of the carcass sending it crashing into the airlock doors. He jumps the railing, and grabs you.
“As good of a distraction as ever Dickie”
You leave and seal the doors behind you, the beast roaring in anger at it’s failure. Stopping to rest the distinct sound of boots can be heard in the adjacent corridor, a voice speaks with authority.
“ BREACH!”
A spear of flames erupts from the mid-section of the door, hot plasma scorching the ground. Several Federation black ops storm in, two of them pulling the door apart.
“Bloody cunts, I JUST FIXED THAT”
Scots picks you up on his shoulder and dashes across the hall, incoming fire causes him to drop you, the two of you are separated, each hiding inside empty rooms. The beast manages to break open the door and cuts into the incoming soldiers, a few of them die instantly, the others try to fight it, only what seems like the commanding officer follows you……

The sound of metal cutting metal scratches at your ears, the imperial sergeant whistling that god damn obnoxious anthem, fucking honor kills. The Admiral across from you throws up the devil horns and points towards the right, He then counts to three, clutching the pipe in your hand you run out of your hiding spot and strike……
-------------------------------------------------
You pin the bouncer against the wall and fire a few shots into his gut, he slumps to the ground. Turning a second too late to deal with the other one you feel the coldness of his barrel against your temple.
“ End of the line Ace, you should’ve just paid your fucking tab”
His head jerks to the side, behind him is a ginger man slightly larger than you wielding a larger and bloody tool of some sort. He squats next to the dying man and puts his cigar out in his eye, the bouncer spasms then goes limp.
The red-headed man stands up and extends a handshake.
“ Scots. And don’t worry, I don’t pay my tabs either”……
-------------------------------------------------

With the officer dead you run towards the medbay. Something taps inside the vents, dark figures leap out of them and pin you and Scots to the ground. A large needle extends from one of their mouths and slowly pierces your neck, with the last bit of your strength you hit it, the needle brakes from it’s jaw and clincks to the floor. The world spins once more.
You can see the Doctor holding his face, an empty syringe lays next to him, Violet stands above you and Scots is… making snow angels? What in the hell just happened?

Violet smiles.
“Wakey wakey dipshit”
She slaps you across the face.
The doctor stands up putting his jaw back in place.
“ Leave him alone, he didn’t know what he was doing, besides, seems he didn’t have the sort of fun Scots had.”
Scots turns around on the floor and blows spit bubbles. He giggles
“Whatever this thing is, it’s potent as all hell” He shakes a vial filled with a yellow powder.
“ We have crates full of them in storage, one of the crates broke and started spreading this stuff around, You were hallucinating, if that wasn’t obvious”
Violet stands up and crosses her arms.
“We found Scots humping a pipe in Section C , you on the other hand, were the biggest pain to deal with, how can you fight when you are as high as the Lotus temple?”
Scots stands up and his face turns pale.
“G-girls? S-s-stop hiding I lost already!”
He spots you.
“Where are they Dickie?”
You shrug
“LOOK I DID MY JOB OKAY DON’T I DESERVE SOME RELAXTATION, HUH ? AND WHY DID YOU HIDE THE JACUZZI ON THE STATION MAN? WHY?”
He starts punching the ground and cursing, the Doctor grabs your attention.
“ I suspect it’s highly addictive”
“We cleared the air while you were tiring yourself out, so its pretty safe to go in, I wouldn’t risk it without a mask yet though”
Holding your head you ask.
“So was everything fake? The corpse the blood and all?”
“Oh, no those are real. We also found some human skeletons. This substance seems to have been extracted out of the animal, from what I have seen, it’s supposed to relax the victim and render it defenseless, for you it was the opposite for some reason”
Violet throws a towel on the ground.
“Seems that this was where they made the drugs, the last extraction went wrong apparently, this is powerful stuff so when the shipment wasn’t on time whoever bought and distributed this didn’t want to risk it if the operation was made.”
The room goes silent.
“ I-I think”
“That would explain the launch bay as well, bit why would dad do this?”
“He probably didn’t, they found it abandoned and decided to use it, it has everything they needed, the question is what are we going to do with half a ton of hardcore drugs?”
Scots sobs in the corner.

“Let’s find out what this thing can do, if today was just a small sample I don’t want to imagine what a full hit will feel like, find out as much as you can Doc, Violet you can help too right?
She blushes
“I-I mean it’s not like I have any experience with d-drugs but I will do my best”
She puffs her chest at the last part
“Well, me and Scots are going to see what else we could do to the station”
Scots rubs his arm and whispers to himself
“It’s not funny girls, come out, come out”
“Or just me I guess.”
While Scots is in rehab you check out the other damaged parts of the station. Outside a window you can see that a portion of the beam connecting the solar panels to the rest has been severed. It doesn’t seem too bad but it will require a space walk or a repair ship.
Walking around your station you think about how the vines will look like when they are fully grown, maybe you won’t make a drug den after all, and if you are, it is going to be the best one out there.
Reaching the engine room you can see the problem instantly, nothing is plugged in, why would the drug makers do this is beyond you but you think you can make it work. A few of the thrusters sputter and die out but the rest seem to work just fine. You think with the engine power you have maintaining orbit won’t be a problem.
You head back to the medbay to check up on the progress made with the drugs, passing the storage room you make sure to hold your breath.
The Doctor is handing one of his rats a small dose of the yellow powder, the little furry animal shakes it off and idly chews on a bit of cage.
“Well, it seems that for this to have any sort of effect you need a lung full of it, what I gave to this rat was half his lung capacity, the other one over there got a double dose”
The rat he pointed to is running around like mad occasionally stopping to vomit, after a few rounds it seems to die.
“Overdose differs not only from rat to human, but even from rat to rat, that one over there got a triple dose, and had the same reaction with this one who got only half. I have no idea what this is, but I think if we just sell it in bulk it won’t matter, although understanding how it works could let us get people addicted and bump up the price, however sick that sounds.”

“Dumping all of it would be a waste, just like trying to look deeper into it, we have other stuff we need to focus on, we are not a pharmacy. I will try to sell it in bulk, God knows we need the money, Do you have any idea what it could go for?”
He shrugs, but Violet pipes up from her microscope.
“We have half a ton of it, and it’s a very hard drug, I doubt it could be called recreational considering how you turned into a maniac with just a small dose, from what I know a decent price would be anywhere from 50000 to 100000, but good luck trying to sell that much to someone who doesn’t know jack about you.”
She looks back into her microscope and murmurs something about a slip and fraud.
“Would you happen to know someone who might be interested Violet?”

Violet snaps her fingers grabbing your attention.
“Oh, yes, yes get the vines and the other stuff as well while you are there, and maybe some coffee ? “
Scots tries to stand up but is quick to change his mind.
“Lots of coffee, and get me a cigar will ya?”
“Didn’t you quit?”
“I need all of my old vices to fight this new one, just one cigar won’t get me hooked again, unlike this shit.”

“If that is all I have some Tuna to attend to”
Scots snaps his neck to you, eyes widened
“Tuna? Are you mad? Remember when you shot down his hitmen?”
“Those were for you Scots, Richard doesn’t have any bad blood with Tuna, besides, the hardcore drugs will probably put aside any animosity between the two.”
You shuffle into the cockpit, the most familiar place to you, and head back to the crime filled cyst that is Karst station.
Tuna was the big fish around here, hence the name, there only a few that worked for him, the rest were dead. He ran his operation like an empire, cold and unforgiving, taking a page out of the Imperial book right there. Stepping into the maze like corridors you can already see a few people giving you the stink eye. It’s not hard finding one of Tunas men, just go to any bouncer on the station, you do so, the scrawny man you find asks you.
“What do you need an audience with Tuna for?”
“Half a ton of hardcore drugs”
You can see his eyes widen behind the shades he is wearing. He regains his composure and speaks.
“Follow me.”
>>

Reaching the end of a corridor than dark spectacled man knocks a few times on the adjacent wall and a ladder descends from the ceiling.
“Happy business sir”
He turns and leaves. Well, this is it, let’s get some money.
Walking up the stairs you notice how to sound of the station instantly drowns out, the eerie quiet inside is broken by a series of taps.
“Hello Mister… Richard, was it? I know you are here for some business so I won’t ask pointless questions like why would you be stupid enough to shoot down my hitmen.”
The man is drinking some Markish tea, half drugs, half morning routine.
“You have half a ton of… something, what is that something?”
You curse the fact you didn’t ask the doctor what the thing might actually be called.
“Yellow powder, incredibly strong, I’m sure you are familiar with it” You push your tongue against the roof of your mouth.
“Hmmm, oh, I have an idea of what it may be… in that case the crates you own are mine, shame I have to pay for them, How much were you looking for?”

Just to clarify, he wants the means to produce more of yellow crazyTM (I'm calling it that now, Its trademarked!), essentially production rights. We get jack shit after that, not royalties no nothing. Hell we'd do better going to another shady station and selling there a bunch of drugs repeatedly.

Plus that thing is a fucking monster that wont die. 50k upfront plus Scotts debt cleared, and you want us to bring you the "production rights" aka that thing, that's 100k on Delivery!

“That’s going to be 100 000, can’t let you make some more without me getting anything”
He makes another cup of tea and offers it to you .
“You drive a hard bargain, I know the state that station is in, I know you need money, so here’s my final proposal.” He licks his lips and pulls out a case of Federation black ops laser weaponry from somewhere behind the counter.
“I have to sell these babies somewhere, the Feds are on my ass so selling on Karst is basically a failure waiting to happen. I give you 100 000 credits, you give the drugs, the carcass and you act as neutral ground for the gun deal, might get you some clients as well if you do your job right”

“Half now, half when it’s done, considering it will be on your station I’m going to get my part after the weapons are sold. This is not to be discussed, this is how I always do it.”
He hands you 50 000 credits.

Going down to the commercial district you are instantly bombarded with merchants trying to sell any and everything possible, walking past them you reach a store front with “Karst Seed Bank” written on it, promising enough.
You enter, a young and lively man sits behind the counter checking different bags of seeds for serial numbers, the small alarm set up at the door grabs his attention.
“Oh? Oh yes hello and welcome to Karst Seed Bank! What can I help with? Do you need help? Sure you do it’s quite messy around here, I should tend to that.’”
You interrupt.
“I have a space station of my own, I can’t afford hydroponics but I heard of some vines that get the job done.”
“ Vines… Vines. Vines! Yes in the back, one second please!”
He goes inside the back room and comes back a few moment later with a bag full of seeds.
“Perlicus vines! Best at what they do, this bag is 500 credits, enough for a whole station! I can get you the other required things like soil and whatnot. Actually with the dirt added it will be 500.Is that okay?”

“Ah, I needed Pleuricus vines, not these ones.”
The man scoffs
“ Pleuricus? That can barely cover a tenth of Karst. A tenth! Why would you want that? What you own a sensor?”
You give him a stern gaze, his smile creeps away.
“Uh, i-in that case I will get you the other ones.”
He brings back another bag of seeds and also a large dark cube.
“These are the right seeds and this is the dirt cube”
You have a second take of the said cube
“Dirt. Cube?”

“Yes! It’s condensed, have a stream of water run and put this at one end, you will have a living ecosystem in no time! Also easier than carrying tons of dirt. 500 please”
“ Also, what plants could I get for hydroponics if I ever decide so?”
“ In a sensor? Hmm, there are some really nice trees that are short and stubby, don’t take too much space, no fruit but their sap is divinely good.”

“Excuse me?”
“ I’ll bring it right away sir”
He comes back a third time with a small and chubby sapling.
“They grow around the height of your knee, filled with sap, great for partys. 600 PLEASE”
You hand him the money and grab your plants and dirt, you miss being in dogfights daily.
Struggling to get the list again you notice the vines needed another thing, pipes. You take a second to decipher the text and put it back into your pocket. Your hands smell a bit of lavender.
You head to the building supplies section and are quick to find what you need. Pipes. But they have no holes. Scots can have some fun drilling

Scots had a pretty bad time bouncing back from those drugs, you should get him something.
The district is filled with stores, so finding one that sells coffee and cigars shouldn’t be too hard to find. An old woman is standing on a chair outside a storefront. You head in and get the stuff you need, when you exit the lady stops you.
“ Cigars aren’t good son, they killed my husband.”
“ They’re not for me, but thanks for the advice, if bullets won’t kill me these surely will “
The woman shows a toothless smile
“ Bullets don’t kill you, stupidity does”
Nodding to the woman you continue on to the last part on your grocery list, Medical supplies
You choose the only pharmacy that doesn’t do only delivery.
“Hello sir! What can I get you?”
The Doctor send you to get the stuff but didn’t bother to tell you what to buy/
“ Uhhh…. W-well enough that a doctor could take care of 4 people for around a year?”
“ So a Medkit package? “
You nod aggressively.
“ Yes sure that”
The woman brings out a box slightly bigger than the dirt cube you are carrying.
“ 200 credits “
You hand her the money and with that you are done. The whole ordeal cost you 1000 credits. So you have 69 000 credits. You giggle.

Quick repairs and cargo dump/trade area are a good idea. Honestly I also like the idea of the clandestine meeting place that is currently happening. With the right materials (sound-proofing, weapon scanners, station defences), we could probably make a decent amount of money using the station as a neutral zone for meetings that people want to keep on the down-low. Not just criminals either but governtment types (although maybe that's even riskier)

Maybe having the most important crime lord on Karst station in your care would require some defenses, You browse a catalog while waiting for the stuff you bought to get processed, some options come up.
>Drone defense (Requires Launch bay) 20 000 credits 4 drones
>Mounted railguns 35 000 credits set of 2
>Rocket battery (Rockets bought separate) 30 000 credits
You commit these to memory and get inside your ship.
You get home, the airlocks open without the horrible screech they usually have, Scots really earned this cigar.
“Merry Christmas children !”
You say throwing around packs of coffee and medical supplies.
Scots comes around the corner more sluggish than usual.
“Have I been a good boy?”
You throw the cigar at him, he manages to catch it in his mouth.
“Thank god, I need a light”
Violet is sitting on a chair with her legs to her chin.
“Did I get anything?”
“ S-sure here.”
You pull out the bag of seeds and the dirt cube.
“ Oh that’s nice, we just need water now.“
You also pull out the cubby tubular sapling, her eyes narrow and focus on it.
“If that is what I think it is you are the best boss ever.”
She stands up and snatches it from you.
“ I’m going to take care of this and tomorrow we will have it’s delicious juices.”
You cringe at the phrasing, she doesn’t notice.
The Doctor has already started making coffee, filling the room with its aroma.
“So I suppose the deal went well?” Scots pipes up before taking a long puff of his cigar.
“ Got 100 000 credits, 50 000 now, 50 000 after it’s done, I also traded the carcass, and you are no longer in debt !”
He chuckles
“ Well I’ll get to solving that right away.”
Violet leans on your shoulder and looks at Scots.
“ You still owe me you know? “
“ I brought you here, that’s more than enough I think.”
Her face goes red and she backs off.
“Also you said after it’s done, are we doing something else for the money? “
“ Acting as neutral ground for one of his gun deals, doesn’t sound too bad if you ask me, we might do it again if we need the money.”
He shrugs.
“Whatever, when is the deal going down? “
“ In two days”
“Well until then I am going to get some sleep before the crime lords decide to shit up my work.”
You have two days of free time what should you do?

If we go to karts again we could get equipment for a gym to make exercise daily, it should be cheap if we compare it to what we spend on our last trip
Also get a repair ship to fix the exterior without spacewalks, enhanced radar of somekind and the drones(we could upgrade their AI with our pilot experience personally) since we already got the launchbay
>>
>>1943443
Water is a huge problem right now, even if you manage to get the ice how are you going to use it? Scots would know this. You catch him just before he enters his room.
"Have you checked the filtration system on the station?"
He rests his head on the door.
"I have, they work fine, why?"
"If we get a source of Ice is there a system that could turn it usable?"
He yawns.
" Uh. .yes, Karst uses it as well, it melts ice and pushes into the normal filtration, Karst dumps the ice deliveries right into it, it's cheaper for both the station and the ice miner."
" How much would it cost?"
"Well we already have the filtration system and the rest is just a glorified boiler, 10 000? Maybe less with your silver tongue"

“ Drugs are expensive. We could use a repair ship for the panels, might come in handy with the launch bay too”

“ Well we don’t need anything big, I think I have a model in mind.”
Scots lead you to a ship store, he apparently knows the owner.
“ Ok Ace here’s the deal. We have several options.”

>Cricket model (Scots wet dream, can be modified in any way imaginable, will take some work but it can fulfill multiple functions) 10 000

“Yes we do! 20 000 for four of them, I’ll add them to the shipment”
You leave the hangar and look to Scots
“You should get some muscle on you”
He laughs and begins putting on a show flexing.
“ Is that so lad? This is what hard work does to you”
“ Well I’m not going to lift the fighter so I’m going to buy some weights “
“Suit yourself, but remember, you will never have these”
He flexes again. Showoff
You purchase some standard gym stuff, costs you 500 credits.
You have 28 500 credits left, You have no idea what radar would cost but having a sensor should make it cheaper than usual. Only requiring some external bits and bobs that Scots knows by heart. You let him loose in the district and he comes back 10 000 credits poorer .
>18 500 credits left
You head back home, and start working on installing the sensors, letting Scots have a ride in the new cricket, also managing to repair the busted solar panel, which had suffered minor damage. The launch bay isn’t fixed completely but it’s good enough to store the drones considering they are remote controlled.
