A tea kettle whistles to life in a dingy warehouse. It had laid barren devoid of any life but only a few days ago had been turned into the cozy Gyre and Associates temporary HQ. Odele Tower turned off the burner and poured the water into a kettle. She sat comfortably in her desk working through ledgers and occasionally pausing to work on a new gun design. Deacon's ideas were outlandish but challenged her to try new things. Her study was interrupted by the hum of the vocaven.

????: Lady Tower come in.

Odele: Yes Presley is that you? What's going on?

Presley: I got some words from some of the inspectors. Seems there was an incident at a checkpoint.

Odele gripped the teacup tightly: What does that have to do with us?

https://youtu.be/yVCu9qp4yVc?list=PLTSIqhWP1gKWbtSaAFCz5erPddH--7D6L

Presley: Seems a Chrysian peasant was stopped at a checkpoint and he along with several officers were.... "swallowed". It matches the description of a Gyre field collapse.

Odele: How old is this report?

Presley: About half an hour old.

Odele: You sure do work fast. I'm glad we paid for your services.

Presley: We aim to please. I presume you'd like to be updated.

Odele: Yes and suppress the story as much as possible.

Presley pauses at the request briefly: I see. Seeing as there were several eye witnesses this may prove to be... costly.

Odele: I know damn well what it will cost Presley. Just get it done. The girl and boy are just getting started.

Presley: It will be done.

Odele: Thank you Presley

Odele slams down the teacup nearly breaking it. Her fingers a bright red even through her dark complexion: Seven fucking hells.

NEW PLAYERS WELCOME

Welcome to Gyrocite.

You play as an all-around "handy man" for an upstart company whose invention could change the world along with its partners. Your current job is causing collateral damage via product demonstrations and uncovering all these damn spys.

Don't worry about catching up or trying to understand it all. Just play along

Previous Thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/1887552/

The crew was sent to Capital for the annual Vitas Fair to debut Gyre technology. Preparing for it Gyre and Co. found out Eldson might try to plot something. Odele made a plan to distract the fairground crowds with a product demonstration in which during that time our own associates would counter their spies, whoever "they" may be.

A quick start guide is there to explain general concepts. The full rules are here:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1hRb7fQuzeSfjKbbYNOWa6V1xWs3-CM9lKBBDkJFcQ8I/edit?usp=sharing

Don't worry about all the math. A character calculator is provided to make things easier here. Just make a copy for yourself. Sorry, can't give edit rights:

Opal stops dead in her tracks seeing Lirenis with her vocaven. She knew the damn dress was billowing too much which would make it harder to feel for pickpockets. Barely keeping her composure she can easily connect the dots. The girl has already talked to her team and such a simple mistake is enough to cost her her life. Lirenis wastes little time explaining how screwed she is. The girl knows Opal’s crew is made of four and their known around the underworld for specializing in blackmail and sabotage. Not only that but Aquila Arm’s recent misfortunes have been their work. Lirenis is also aware that Opal’s target Valentino was desperately trying to secure a minor arms deal with some Chrysian military and just so happened to secure an invitation with some Chrysian military officials. All Opal could think of was when the seven hells did the Gyres, a bunch of greenhorns, suddenly be able to afford such competent handymen. Having to think quickly she smiles and answers:

Opal: Well seeing as I’m unemployed now there isn’t a job to talk of. However I could work as a consultant if you’ll be needing one (A venomous tone creeps up from her warm demeanor), and you will. I am a {Closer}. Our profession is about ensuring a deal is made. Whether that may be an acquisition, liquidation, consolidation or affirmation, and we do so by more physical means when one of the parties is being uncooperative. We ensure that our clients realize that life is happier when we’re all together.

Opal adjusts her dress exposing more cleavage: I’m an expert at a more… direct approach. All are led by desire girl. A {Closer} finds just what their prey wants and gives it to them. And when one wants to play coy. You must give them only one choice.

A softer voice comes over Opal’s vocaven. It’s of a young man with a solemn voice holding back emotion: Opal.....

The guard wearily accepts Julien’s explanation and turns to the side to let him close but not fully through. Looking at Julien’s armor the guard can tell he is of Chrysian descent but seeing a battered armor with new finishings and Capitian craftsmanship piques the guard’s interest.

Guard: Ah zut. Sal countryman please join us. If I may to ask what house do you hail from. It is obvious that armor is of a pride but it’s banner is lost to me. Do you hail from our south? Closer to our fair vineyards?

Gerald reaches under the stage producing a sword wrapped around cloth. He begins to make his way towards Lily vocaven in one hand and sword in the other: Have we made any progress?

Lily: If I were to hazard a guess he took a dose of Vijupityne. It’s an extremely slow acting agent that can take a week to work. Don’t worry he won’t die but we’ll need to head out and we can’t have an ambulance come or everyone will know Gyre’s co-president is down. Once we meet up with Odele I’ll want you to come back. The kids can handle themselves for a bit.

Gerald calls Odele to arrange an evacuation. Before he can say anything Odele is already parroting into the vocaven: Gerald! Finally I got ahold of one of you. We have trouble.

Gerald: You can’t be serious. We’re calling you because Samuel was poisoned and we need a medi-evac.

Odele: WHAT?! Okay fine I can get an autocar there but it will take some time. Listen, I was just told from one of our {Pressmen} that a Gyre field collapse happened at a checkpoint not too far. We have a team suppressing the information with the Union’s help.

Gerald: Eldson’s moving already? He deployed more automatons?!

Odele: I thought so but that doesn’t seem to be it. Seems it was a Chrysian Constitutionalist. They tried to get past the checkpoint and things escalated. Police fired at the man and when the GFE expended it collapsed “voiding” all of them.

Gerald stands stoically taking in all the events that have transpired as if taking stock of piece to formulate a counter strategy. After a brief moment: Lily, an autocar will be ready for us at the other side of the park. Eldson isn’t the only one we need to worry about. We’ll have to assume some of these other constitutionalists are here. Everyone, we’re counting on you. Give them a great show and sell it well…. but be careful.

With Aleid down, Alex sets his sights on Serval. Serval fires his guns not at Alex but above to one of the lights hanging below. Alex manages to slip by taking minor damage. She picks up the vocaven, sighs softly, and retorts without a hint of disingenuous: Tacks you always were a romantic idiot. It was always cute though. Don't cry if you have to pull the trigger. That's if you can catch me.

Gerald: We'll have to assume that some of these constitutionalists have made it through and are close to the park as of right now.

Lily: Yeah but why would some Chrysian peasants and minor nobles come all the way to Capital to cause a bunch of problems?

Gerald: Capital has always been a place of men of power to meet. Likewise the dissatisfied would find a voice here as well when untenable in their own borders.

Lily: This doesn't make sense. If the Chrysians and Eldson are working together why would he try to kill them?

Gerald: Perhaps there may be more at play...

Samuel: Hurrrreeggrr....

Lily: Good he's still remaining conscious. Just hold on Sam.

The crowd goes wild at the otherworldly display unable to believe what they are seeing. Shouts of disbelief and wonder at the Gyre's technology fill the air. Prefect's gunman loses focus for a moment and let's go of his rifle. He picks up a vocaven and seems to be conversing with someone.

. . . And Opal sashayed away. Lirenis watched the door slam behind her, soaking in the aftermath of every man in the room sighing.

"Well that. . . worked better than I expected"

Lirenis let out a pent up breath, shuddered off the last vestige of fight-or-flight adrenaline and tried to get her hair back under control. Had it gotten hot in here? Her palms were all sweaty.

Lily: Gerald where in the seven is that damn auto car?

Gerald: It’s coming. We need to go while everyone is too busy looking at the demonstration.

Alex takes the initiative and uppercuts Serval into the air. Alex follows that up by punching into the ground to launch himself 10 meters in the air (5 tiles). Being a model gunslinger Serval unloads a desperate volley of Spearmint destroying Alex’s shield. Alex tries in vain to attack but his capacitors were spent from Dragon strikes just moments ago. Both fighters fall to the ground prone. Meanwhile Aleid recovers and is nearly back up to full strength

Any energy that recharges either independently or a part of a GFE isn’t resolved until AFTER the turn is done. Also with both of your shields expanded the GFE will not work until AFTER NEXT turn even if you recharge the whole shield next turn. Losing your shield makes you vulnerable for a minimum of one turn. APless actions are weird to resolve but they are essentially a part of the same attack. As long as you have 1 energy left to do a skill you can do it while blowing your shield. That’s how Serval was able to destroy Alex’s shield.

Not as planned.

Anyway, some questions with regard to my next actions:
I have a Prometheus on me that isn't overheated. I assume that I can spend 3 AP to turn it on, as mentioned in the first Beta Cave thread - how much EN will it have at that point?
It's specified that while your GFE is down, "all actions that use energy such as attacking and defending are not possible." Is the intention that attacks not requiring EN (such as most striking PRTs, and technically parrying) can still be performed?
>>
>>1932520
I forgot.... Assume you can see them. They're about 4 tiles north.

>>1932785
All dormant GFEs have 0 energy. Also it'd cost 6 ap to equip it. So you'd spend 6ap then have to recharge it. Switching Gyres isn't efficient.

Skills like disarm and parry don't need energy to perform.
>>
>>1932916
And I suppose there's no way to have more than one equipped at once, even if only one is active. This makes recharging my field a little more complicated right now. Sure hope no one shoots me while I'm getting back up.

Odele: They seem to be Chrysian peasants and minor nobles. A few years ago there was a protest here in Capital with constitutionalists demanding more rights. It seems Chrysians find it easier to address their grievances here than back home considering we won't outright murder them.

Gerald: Where's Catrina? Wasn't she a part of that same movement?

Odele: That's true.... I can try to send a sollegraph later to her. She never mentioned them ever being particularly violent.

Gerald: Even the lowest born Chrysian holds themselves to a higher dignity. We have a saying you know: "When words fail, action prevails".

Odele pauses for a moment: Gerald what are you thinking?

Gerald: I'm thinking Catrina's student movement has evolved beyond what she remembered.

Odele: What do you mean?

Gerald: I don't think Eldson and his ilk are using automatons. Rather it'd be easier to use warm bodies....

The fighters regroup and the crowd is ready for more. While the crowd obliviously enjoy the spectacle the crew slowly notice that not all is as it seems.

In theory, any of the three combatants on the stage would be close enough, if we could somehow play it off to the audience.

Alternatively, we could get Crusher to call on his men to make a move, if any of them are in a good position.

Even more alternatively, and even more theoretically, Silver Dollars (being Rifled) can fire beyond their maximum range in exchange for a 5% damage penalty per tile. However, a beyond-maximum-range Trick Shot would effectively not suffer this penalty since it deals no damage.

If Serval were to fire at one of us and 'miss', the shot would perhaps fly out and hit something or someone in the fairgrounds. I'm not sure this would, or should, actually work mechanically, though.

Gerald: Looks like our car has arrived.

Lily: Finally. Look the whole path is empty too. They really all have their eyes on the stage.

Gerald: Why would they look away? What they’re witnessing might as well be magic. Don’t you remember the first time we saw Samantha’s machines work?

Lily distinctly remembers that day. Her father asked her to come all the way from Pigovia. He needed a doctor and couldn’t let anyone know why. The 3 days it took her to arrive were dreadful as she assumed Aster was dying. She was miffed yet relieved to find her father perfectly fine. Aster asked her to be there in case a demonstration went awry. That demonstration was the first time she had met the young man she was now treating.

>On the first floor

Samantha joins the man at the table and Emilia sits on her lap.

Beaker looks at Emilia: Ah where are my manners, already wanting to talk about work. Who is this? I didn’t know you had a daughter.

Emilia: I’m not her daughter. I’m a girl she found on the street.

Samantha nervously chuckles: Well she is right… Me and my associates took her in and she’s been living with us since.

Beaker straightens himself up: You’re as caring as your mother I must say.

Samantha: Thank you professor. Now what were you going to say?

Beaker: Ah yes well I must say I’m impressed with your work. Being able to miniaturize Eldson’s prototype so effectively must have been no easy task.

Samantha stammers but composes herself: Eldson? I’m sorry professor it’s been an eventful week can you remind me?

Beaker: Ah yes well the old chap was asking for my assistance in refining jupimer. It seems he’s been able to modify a standard gravity drive to work at 300% efficiency. If he can perfect the process there will be no need for balloons anymore on airships.

Samantha: But wouldn’t that be dangerous exposing people to so much jupimer radiation?

Beaker: Yes it would. However with the proper shielding it is still tenable. The problem has always been that the weight of the shielding always outpace the efficacy of the drive. Its why you still see massive balloons used.

Samantha: You wouldn’t need shielding whatsoever if it’s catalyzed using beta Gyre waves. However you would need a very fine sample of jupimer and quite a bit of it…

Samantha stops her rambling changing her tone: I’m sorry professor but I must say Eldson and I haven’t been working together for several years now, mainly because he wanted to take all of the credit for my work. Which right now I believe he’s trying to do again. Is there anything else you’d be willing to share? I wasn’t even aware that Eldson was here.

Beaker: Ah well excuse me I must correct you. Elson himself didn’t ask me but one of his representatives did. I believe she is meeting with some officials as she walked off with two men upstairs. My old eyes tell me they’re Chrysian. Blokes still wear the same uniform from when I was a boy.

Lily was one of the last of the siblings to meet Samuel and Samantha. She was asked to be emergency response if a demonstration failed. Deacon had not been won over at this point so Samuel equipped a GFE and asked the older man to shoot him. “If I’m alright after this then you’ll join us.” Deacon wasn’t one to back down so complied. Lily remembers averting her eyes at the shot. She distinctly remembers the buzzing sound immediately after the shot. She did not look until hearing astonished gasps and Samuel asking Deacon to shoot him again. That was the first time many had seen a Gyre field work as bullets plinked effortlessly off the shield. Lily snapped back into reality now dragging the same young man to a car.

Lily: You could be too reckless Sam.

Samantha: A representative you say? What did she look like? And two Chrysian?

Beaker: This may be ungentlemanly but… I must say she was quite ravishing. She was wearing a red dress with a bow in her hair. She was with another equally beautiful woman who wore a blue dress and she too wore a bow. Sorry for any offense. As for the Chrysians they were wearing full military regalia. I imagine they were {Knights}. Now what is this about Eldson and you? The chap never came off as the savory type.

Samantha: I had finally developed my father’s first prometheus model but since Eldson had financed nearly all of it he wanted complete credit for its development and had tricked my brother and I into the most one-sided contract imaginable. Luckily for us our initial prototypes were far from reliably functional so we left. Even if he could get them to work he’d still take years to get it working. At that time my brother was able to convince some other companies to sponsor us and three years later since then we’re sitting here.

Beaker: The greedy always feed on the weak. I’m glad you’ve done well for yourself.

Samantha: That means the world coming from you professor. I’ve been meaning to ask. Have you made any discoveries lately?

a1. Guns come loaded. Deafault is gumdrops, but any ammo you posses is allowed. Keep in mind, not all the ammo-types are free
a2. Nope, eq only comes into play for the mag. Some ammos provide multiple reloads per 'mag', the eq remains until the whole thing is gone.
a3. Bandoliered ammo/supplies/catalysts have no effective weight. Eg, rank one allows you to carry three 'Dark Chocolate' mags (that's nine reloads!) while ignoring the 6eq.
