Stage 169: Ryukusa vs Yakuza.

The thing about a perfect memory is that you remember things perfectly.

This has some incredibly useful advantages, and some horrible, horrible drawbacks. Your heart is pounding and your chest is tight. It's fear of course, but not for the reasons other people might be afraid. The next part of the play is either that of yourself, which would be played by Kiki-hime, or that of Yui, played by Akari. But the end result is the part that bothers you. Or rather, the part played at the end. Izanami could possibly show up next of course; time is not linear, and in a ghost play especially. It is one of the reasons Ringu was so difficult for people from other cultures to understand. Ghosts don't obey clocks. Time is something of a vague, wishy-washy, wibbly-wobbley, timey-wimey Stuff, than anything linear.

Anyways.

Yes, it is Izanami that is your issue, because you've seen her. Invoked her. Made sacrifices to her. Prayed to her. And she listens. So this play, this ghost play, this dance and performance is both a ritual and an invocation of sorts, and you would not offend the Kami who remains in Yomi for any reason. Especially since it is your loved ones performing.

Inau-kun lifts your hand and kisses it, startling you by her boldness, especially in a public place. You relax a little and turn to the pretty hunter, blinking at her as she smiles at you. “It is a Chi technique I know, one which helps calm people. It works especially well with small children.” You tilt your head, looking at her with a non-plussed expression, and her expression becomes panicked. “I mean – that is – ah, please forgive me!” Her cheeks are bright red and Kiku-chan is looking at her with confusion, while Er Yin stifles a small, but definite chuckle of amusement.

[] It is a very useful technique that you know!
[] That's not necessarily flattering, I suppose, but I might let it slide.
[] no, no, you're fine, Inau-kun, you're fine.
[] Well, kiss her hand back, of course. Only better.
[] Well, we'll have lots of babies for you to kiss later, don't worry!

I almost want to write "Who knew you were into that kind of plays~" but it is NOT something appropriate to say in a space where reality and performance are blending.

Especially given Izanami's likely presence soon

[XX] It is a very useful technique that you know!
[X] Well, kiss her hand back, of course. Only better.
[X] Well, we'll have lots of babies for you to kiss later, don't worry!
[x] No, no, you're fine, Inau-kun, you're fine.

You smile and shake your head, and she relaxes immediately, seeing that you're not even close to being upset by her faux pas. “That is a very useful technique to know, Inau-kun,” you murmur softly, smiling and looking down demurely. She relaxes quite a bit. “I expect it will come in very handy, as we will have lots of babies for you to kiss.” That makes her blush all the stronger as you slowly take her hand and being it to your lips. Turning her hand so that her fingers, held so gently within your own hand now, are pointed towards you. You kiss the soft skin between her first and second knuckles, the barest tip of your tongue tracing the crevice formed by her pointer and index finder.

Kiku-chan watches as the poor thing passes out, and you can just imagine wisps of steam rising from her ears. Her face has gone beet red; fortunately she's passed out before the nosebleed could start and her blood pressure is dropping quickly enough that you don't need to fix the issue. “I thought we were past that point,” she comments mildly.

“We were, but when has that ever stopped me from causing more trouble?” you reply loftily as you pull a folding fan from Nowhere and work on cooling the overheated demigod.

“You are hard taskmistress, Ryukusa-sama,” Er Yin-sensei murmurs with a smile.

“Well, one does ones best.” As Inau-kun stirs you turn and fan yourself with the simple paper and steel fan, looking up at the tall man who moved up silently behind you. Which pisses him off no end, you note, especially since he made absolutely no sounds at all. Fortunately you have a few other senses to work with. “Ah, good evening. I take it Shinkai-sama is ready for me?”

The tall, slender man with the black diver's gloves – the lack of wrinkling and the larger than typical fit suggesting they are loaded with led powder or some equally heavy material – looks down at you with barely disguised irritation. “If you will come with me, Ryukusa-sama, I will take you to where Yamada-senpai waits.”

You smile brightly at him as you snap the fan shut, and stand, turning to Kiku-chan and Er Yin-sensei, who is the one you seem to address. “Do take care of our wilting flower, please; I would hate for her to miss the show.” You make sure they know that one of the other bodyguards is still here, and that they are to take no action unless it is for Kiki-hime's sake.

Turning to you, Er Yin smiles, and you can feel the Yakuza's hair stand on end as she looks directly at you with unseeing eyes. “Of course, Ryukusa-sama. We will be fine.” Kiku—chan nods twice, making an agreeable noise each time. Naturally it is Er Yin the bodyguard feels alarmed by, not realizing the far more dangerous one is Kiku-chan. You turn to the somewhat taller fellow, and note his cleanly styled hair, the red glass stud in his left ear, and the pleasant smile that barely masks his true expression. Pointing with the fa, you instruct him politely. “Do lead on, onii-chan. I am looking forward to this!”

His frown is a mighty thing indeed, but he turns and leads the way. The one referred to by Agato as Hiei smirks at you, leaning back in someone else's seat and putting his feet on the back of your chair, his golden earring flashing and tossing his ponytail over his shoulder casually. He is wearing similarly loaded gloves. You give him the cutest little finger-wave and quickly catch up to the now very dour bodyguard, ignoring the angry sneer of disdain your goodbye incites from the dangerous man.

“Hey hey, onii-chan, what's your name? I don't mind calling you onii-chan, I always wanted a big brother!” You catch up to him and lean forward slightly as you walk, looking up at him.

He frowns mildly and glances down at you. “I warned Yamada-senpai about your kind, you know. Ingenuous, friendly, smiling, and two straps from slitting a throat or planning an accident if it gets you ahead in the world.” For a moment you thought he meant dragonettes, but he's clearly talking about women. “So please dispense with the pretend carelessness, and remember that we have done things you can't imagine to protect Yamada-senpai.”

[] Oh, I can imagine all right....I can imagine lots of things! Eh, eh? YouknowwatImean?

These bodyguards really would have done much better casting for another quest, perhaps one where those smouldering anime pretty-boy looks would be effective.

I'm a little surprised this guy doesn't sense anything out of the usual from how calm and carefree Ryukusa's acting, but I suppose Ryukusa's just that good at playing her role.
>>
>>1914000

He clearly has a lowly opinions of women in general, I doubt he consider this particular one being worth much.

Alas for Mr. Bodyguard, he's soon going to learn he is not the protag of his own quest. Nor the important-friend-NPC of his senpai's quest.
>>
>>1914052
I feel like Ryukusa might handle this elegantly, or at least stealthily, enough that he won't notice a thing until we're done. He better hope so at least!
>>
>>1914054

This is Ryukusa, she could do a mud wrestling match against berserking Oni women without any of her powers and still be elegant.

[+] I don't see how anything can be that hard to imagine....

Straightening, you prance lightly and keep up with him effortlessly, though he doesn't seem to notice that he should have left you behind with as hard as he's walking, or at least made you hurry. “You're all cute when you're protective onii-chan! Besides, I think I do the whole ingenuous young lass part really well! Mikurabe seems to like it a lot....” The creak of his gloves and the tightening of his lips into a firm line is quite obvious, though he manages to do no more than that. Lots of bad blood there, how interesting. “Seems like she's more the kind of girl you'd give that warning to than me, onii-chan!”

“Mikurabe-sama is a well off and aristocratic young woman, whom you should be careful about discussing,” he warns flatly. “She's Yamada-senpai's finance, and she comes from a long line of powerful people. I'd watch my step and my mouth around her if I were you.”

“I was kind of under the impression she wanted to watch my mouth, actually,” you comment mildly and he shoots you a surprised look. He might have laughed if he knew you better, but it's definitely a step forward. “Besides, what's so hard to imagine about fine young men of your caliber and suave airs doing their boss' bidding? You all seem pretty nice to me!”

He glances at you sidelong and you can almost see the gears turning inside his head: 'what to tell her, what not to tell her, should I bite, should I bark?' He takes the prudent route and merely leads you to the elevator, which is being guarded by the third member of the Yamada Trio. “Oh, one more and you could make an A Capella group!” you announce brightly, getting a wry and rather vicious looking half smile from the lean fellow with the too large jacket an untucked shirt. He tosses his stylishly messy hair as he jerks his head to the elevator, stepping inside to face you and your escort who is now slightly behind you before pressing the second floor button. “What do you think, Serious Onii-san, too ingenuous, or not calm enough? Onii-chan thinks I'm flighty and doesn't love me anymore.”

“Well, Yoshihano is a little staid, imouto-chan, so you kind of have to put up with him, sorry,” he replies with the same easy banter. “He's not nearly so bad once you get to know him.”

You glance back at Yoshihano seriously. “See, he understands it! You're just too boring, onii-chan.” Looking at the third member of Yamada's men, you smile – he's about your height which is nice and comfortable. “He says you're all very bad men, and I should just watch myself. Is that so, Serious Onii-san? You seem like the kind to give a girl an honest answer when she asks for it.”

“Well, I wouldn't want to upset you, imouto-chan, so let's just say that we're pretty bad men who have to take care of our boss the best we can. You're just too good natured to want to know about bad people like us, even if you work for the Kumatori.” Oh, this one is canny.

“You're very kind, Serious Onii-san, thank you!” He gets a lovely and slightly more real smile, and he bows from the neck to you, which is rather gratifying. Of course, he's probably even more dangerous than Hiei; Hiei might have a supernatural talent or some secret training, but this person is a serial killer in the making, if he isn't one already.

You would know.

The door slides open and he steps out first, glancing from one side to the other in a smooth motion that he makes look casual, and steps to the side deferentially. “Have a nice talk with Yamada-sama, Ryukusa-sama. Perhaps we'll meet again later.” Serious-Onii-san bows a little more deeply from the waist this time, a clearly charming maneuver that has probably disarmed many a young maiden, and probably a lot of not-so-maidens.

[] A bow and a smile is more than enough, he's quite suave.
[] A kiss on the cheek and a transmitter is just what this guy deserves!
[] You look forward to it of course – maybe he'll being that delightful Hiei fellow too?

[XXX] You're just the perfect lady-killer, aren't you, Serious Onii-san!!!
[X] A kiss on the cheek and a transmitter is just what this guy deserves!
[x] Blush lightly and bow back, and tell Yoshihano that he should take lessons from Serious Onii-san if he wants to get a date!

You blush lightly for his benefit and look up at him coyly. “Why, Serious Onii-san, you're the perfect lady killer, aren't you,” you murmur softly, as though embarrassed. You don't even have to look to feel Yoshihano stiffening and turning his lips into that flat line of controlled irritation. You step up and lean in, kissing him on the cheek, which he accepts with closed eyes and still bowed. His heart doesn't even beat the tiniest bit faster, so cold hearted is he.

“Alas, I can only strive to achieve what comes naturally to my betters, Miss Ryukusa,” he replies, as he stands up, his warm smile only pretending to reach his eyes. “Enjoy your time, and the play, imouto-chan!” he calls softly after you and your exceedingly perturbed escort.

“Such a nice young man,” you comment mildly to the angry Yakuza next to you. “You could really stand to learn a few lessons from him, onii-chan, he could really teach you how to get the girls.” Aaaannnnd most likely cut their throats, but whatever.

“That man has nothing to teach me,” Yoshihano murmurs stiffly. Then you're coming up on the private viewing room where the Shinkai's await you, and outside are none other than two of the four bodyguards assigned to Mikurabe-sama. Yoshihano's attitude immediately changes to something much more deferential, as he inclines his head towards the big red-headed man, who stands almost seven feet tall. “Natto-san, Tachibana-san.” Tachibana is apparently the stiff white haired fellow with the haunted eyes. He's SEEN SOME SHIT, and it's left a mark, the indelible mark of those who have encountered youkai. He doesn't seem to see you as anything other than human....but then again, you have an advantage that Kiku-chan doesn't.

[X] Water Eyes
[XX] These two are serious people, and should be treated as serious people.
[X] Walk around Natto-sama and ask where Kakunemo uprooted a redwood tree and animated it.

Water Eyes tells you a lot.

Natto-san might be immune to the soul-searching Fire Eyes, but against Water Eyes he has no such defenses apparently. This is a powerful spirit-child, seeing everything and knowing plenty. His nature as youkai born is strong and hidden, but it doesn't take much to determine what it is – red hair, powerful build, inhuman speed, the eyes of a predator, and that intense, overbearing certainty that he can overcome any and all things at the behest of his master, combined with a sense of superiority that goes on for miles without containing the arrogance that a dragonne might have or the bluster an oni would have. One of those born of a nue, the chimerical beasts of lightning and illusion, cloud and thunder.

He is sure and steady, and will protect Mikurabe with his life, not because she deserves it or because she is worthwhile, but solely because Kakunemo has asked it of him. Not told; asked. He serves at his own whim, until he decides to no longer serve, at which point he will leave, but not without discharging his duty or informing the oyabun. Natto's honor is that of a beast, a wild beast which does as it will, within the framework of is nature. He is a fearsome beast, and he sees that same fearsomeness in you, and he is wary. Confident of his superiority, but certain that it would be a gruesome battle that would leave him terribly wounded.

Tachibana is a man of great depths, a complicated, intelligent man who took a step too far into a place he shouldn't have been. Not everyone enters the Forest of Suicides and lives to tell the tale, especially when they mean to kill themselves. Ironically the very terrors that nearly seized him gave him new reason to live: the idea of becoming a ghost terrifies him, and the idea of becoming a curse even more so. Tachibana's new lease on life means that he fears death....and nothing else.

The Yakuza took him in because he did not fear them even when he should have, and he could take a beating. His keen intelligence has taken him far; he could easily become an uncle, or even one of the accountants. But he took a liking to Natto, and has been workign with him, learning from him. He suspects something, sees something more in certain people – people like you – but he can't quite discern the truth of things yet. One day he may do so, under his own power, but for not he is aware of something, even if he doesn't quite understand what.

As your Water Eyes close you look up at Natto-san with respect, and then walk slowly around him, much to everyone else's confusion. Finally you stop in front of him and look him in the eye. “Your clothing. It's custom made. Very nicely. I know Subaru-sensei's work anywhere. Also, you're a huge person. Are you a tree? Maybe a golem? Because you're huge.” Tachibana blinks at you, a little stunned, and Onii-chan looks offended and exasperated.

“Hmph. Just as expected of Ryuu Ryukusa, Shinobi to Kumatori Kiki. Your reputation precedes you, as always.” Natto-san looks down at you, and smiles grimly. “This is the young woman who defeated Kushinada, and took out the best martial artist in all the Yakuza clans on the mainland, gentlemen.”

Both Tachibana and Onii-chan look started and look at you. “Kushinada?!” “Sakumo-sensei!?” Onii-chan and Tachibana-san look at you with much more wariness now.

“That was rude! Oh well. I suppose you've told your master and mistress then? And I don't mean the oyabun. I'm pretty sure he knows exactly who I am.” You flick the fan out and waft it at your face. Tachibana tenses, recognizing it as the weapon it is, while Onii-chan remains shell shocked by Natto-san's announcement. Natto doesn't even blink, only smiles grimly at you.

“Of course. They're ready for you now.” Tachibana stares as he goes to open the door.

“No weapons check?” he asks, his voice firm and strong despite his haunted look.

“Wouldn't do any good,” Natto-san says. “Didn't I just tell you? She took out Kushinada, who held the Grass-Cutting Blade, and killed Sakumo-sensei. What makes you think she needs a weapon to kill anyone?”

“Flattery, Natto-san, flattery. Besides, it was my subordinate that killed Sakumo-sensei, not me. And I'm glad you qualified that, it would be terrible to have to try and convince the greatest martial artists in Japan that I didn't defeat the best of them. Word travels quickly, you know, especially if it's lies.” you sigh dramatically and step into the doorway as he opens it for you with a bow....one that keeps his head up and his eyes on you. “Thank you Natto-san!” you chirrup cheerfully as you breeze through the door into the warmly lit viewing room.”

He smirks as he shuts the door after you, giving you an all-too-knowing look. He's right of course: the Shinkai's are perfectly safe from you, thanks to the oyabun's sake.

The room is lit with false candelabras and has a nice warm glow to it, richly decorated in soft pastel cushioned polished pine furniture and decorated with various No Masks with adjustable lighting so that one can see the varied faces they can make. Yamada-sama rises and his wife after, bowing politely to you, and you bow back, smiling. Oh yes, she knows, and she is wary, and the desperation shines in her eyes like gaping pits of despair. He hides his knowledge much better, but he can't hide his doubt; Natto may have told him, but he doesn't believe, not like Mikurabe does.

“Please sit, Ryukusa-sama,” he prompts and gesture to the seat that his fiancé just vacated. She perches on the arm of that that chair her arm resting on the back of it, clearly intending that you enjoy the opportunity to share her company. You were right – Yamada-sama indulges her, and if she can seduce you, in his eyes, so much the better for him. They would do pretty well with Water dragonette diplomacy, really. A little too blatant for your taste, but they're not born to it naturally.

[] Take the offered seat, and see what she might have in store for you.
[] Take a seat of your own, his gesture was broad enough to allow for it.
[] Gently inquire as to whether it's all right to sit so close to his fiancé....
[] Remain standing, aware of how rude it might seem and knowing they can do little about it.
[] Sit next to where Yamada is sitting, just to see how Mikurabe reacts.

To be honest I really want to see how she's planning to go about this exactly, especially with such a less-than-subtle start.

Interesting that Natto is sure he could win against Ryukusa despite knowing who she is. Of course, I'm still betting on Ryukusa in the event of a fight, but if he's strong enough to have a serious chance, I find it surprising he's on glorified body-guard duty for a lady like Mikurabe who seems mostly unimportant in the grand scheme of things. Shouldn't he have more important things to do in that case?
>>
>>1914650
he only thinks he knows who we are, he has no idea we are a demi-god he just knows the basic rumors about us that the other supernatural people know.
>>
>>1914706
Well that's true enough, but he does know who we've beat, and apparently more than just their names from the sound of it. Granted obviously they weren't on Ryukusa's level, but even the lower estimate of what it'd take to beat them seems high compared to what I'd have expected Mikurabe's bodyguard to match up to. Let's not forget she's someone so low on the totempole she's willing to debase herself to enter Ryukusa's good graces despite her not really knowing how strong Ryukusa is either, just because she desperately needs to improve her standing in Japan.
>>
>>1914729
I agree he seems scary and dangerous but yakuza always seem to think a lot of themselves, it is strange that they are guarding someone so weak. maybe she is more important we are not seeing.

You need to keep in mind that Natto is a youkai-child.

He likely CANNOT be less sure about his victory than he is.
>>
[XX] Take the offered seat, and see what she might have in store for you.
[X] Gently inquire as to whether it's all right to sit so close to his fiancé....

You smile and incline your head to him politely, and glide across the room to where she sits, the wide arm of thee chair providing plenty of space for her to sit without threatening a spill. It also allows her to show of quite a bit of thigh and calf, as well, and undoubtedly that was planned. “Well, if it is all right with Yamada-sama to sit so close to his bride to be, then I cannot really refuse, can I?” you murmur softly, glancing at her coyly even as you address Shinkai Yamada.

Mikurabe smiles, the warm expression never reaching those eyes. Not because they're cold, but because thy are so greedily watching your every move, tracing your strange talons and your slowly lashing tail. Mikurabe flexes her fingers, wanting to touch you, touch those fantastic glassy horns of yours. You're pretty certain it's less a case of wanting to bespell you and more to experience something truly and magically exotic.

“We are all friends here, Ryukusa-sama,” he insists calmly, sitting down and crossing his ankle over his knee, while stretching one arm along the back of the couch. “You have a certain reputation of course, and to be perfectly honest....well, my wife has some of the same proclivities as you.”

You looks mildly surprised. “She dresses little girls up in fine clothing and takes them to noh plays?”

You almost made him spit scotch across the table. That would have been fantastic!

Mikurabe's laughter is, for once, genuine and sweet. She runs her hand along your shoulder as you lean back in the chair, and her touch does not carry any power or spell upon it (yet). The movement is too deliberate though, a forerunner of more purposeful and powerful touches. She might not even realize how deliberate it is now, muscle memory directing action rather than current decision or impulse. “I don't think anyone has ever made my fiancée do that before in all the time I've known him, Ryukusa-sama!”

You smile and duck your head. “Please forgive me Yamada-sama. I didn't mean any disrespect.”

He shakes his head but puts his drink down, instead pouring you tea. Oolong, the scent of peaches rising from the strong black tea. “No, not at all, Ryukusa-sama. It was hardly what I expected, that's all.” He pours it in three slow, careful pours, and then pours for his fiancé. “Well, no matter. I did wonder what you wished to speak to the oyabun about of course; I only just recently understood who you were.” Natto-san's interference. Well, that's all right, you've had plans fall apart before.

You don't like it when they do, but you can cope.

A glint in the window catches your eye and you tilt your head, getting a better glimpse. A rather pretty nogitsune-born girl pointing a laser microphone in your direction, and her human companion, a slender, short haired tomboy who is carefully not peeking up her friend's skirt, even though that tail is pretty deliberately under said skirt, rather than tucked through or over it. Both are on a ladder in the light and sound area of the theater, and if anyone else could see in the dark they would be immediately spotted. It's a rare talent, fortunately.

[] Honesty is the best policy at this point.
[] Ask him what he thinks you're up to, since he knows you're up to something.
[] Lean over his fiancé's lap and put your feet on the arm of the chair – play into their hands of course.
[] Wonder about what he thinks of Natto's report on you, see what he knows.
[] Inquire as to how the alliance with the Kaga Clan is going, since it's obvious they're making one.

Us anons are too thirsty, good thing XS confirmed no lewd here. Or perhaps that reassurance is what fuels the flirt
>>
>>1914872
Yeah, I vote for it but want nothing to do with that greedy lady. I am sure XM knows, I hope.
>>
So, since Yamada wasn't particularly interested in pushing Chisato around long-term, I hope we can probably figure something out peacefully unless his wife has gotten too power-hungry to accept whatever we end up deciding on here. Question is, do we actually want to make any kind of mutually beneficial agreement at all here, or do we just want to get Chisato clear of interference however we can and then leave?
>>
>>1914886
I'm quite sure XS would have no second thoughts about slapping down anons even if we actually tried to make things lewd here, she definitely sets boundaries both for where she'd be interested in taking a quest and what actions she thinks the characters would realistically take. No sandbox adventures here
>>
>>1914886

Well honestly if circumstances would make her wise up on her ways, I wouldn't be opposed to do something with her.

But right now it's clear Ryukusa is doing this only to play them when they think they're playing her.

I don't super hate her or anything but Ryukusa should stick to her family (however broad) and especially stay away from the married ones

Yes and no - in this instance, Ryukusa could in fact allow herself to be seduced, but Ryukusa has no sexual interests in the sorceress at all as determined by anons over the course of her adventures. I do take write-ins priority over all other choices, but that also means I take requests to not do something with the same amount of weight, and several anons are not okay with this woman.

<sarcasm>Totally can't imagine why.</sarcasm>

>>

Makes perfect sense, and besides this would be a terrible time anyway. We have things to do after this!
>>
>>1914967
Well, this one is a peculiar case of anons determining the outcome of the quest beforehand.

(I could so make light novels.)
>>
>>1914991
I dunno about that, your titles are pretty lengthy in full but they're not nearly inane enough, your MCs aren't bland as fuck, and your characters are too sexually confident rather than excessively screeching anime girls

You could totally have written LNs like 15 years ago when readers were used to Boogiepop and shit instead though
>>
>>1914997

Also XS's works are complexe, innovating and thoughts-and-emotions-provoking.

[X] Lean over his fiancé's lap and put your feet on the arm of the chair – play into their hands of course.
[XX] Ask him what he thinks you're up to, since he knows you're up to something.

You turn in the seat, sitting crosswise and lay your arm across her lap as he has done to the couch, resting your legs off the armrest of the couch. This also lets your tail slide out from behind you into a far more comfortable position as well. Mikurabe's eyes follow your tail's movements and you smile sliding the vaned end of your tail around her ankle, eliciting a sharp, but very quiet intake of breath from her as you demonstrate the flexibility of the vanes along her calf. She hesitantly and gently reaches down and caresses your horn, which makes Yamada-sama smile, as to him it looks like she is stroking your hair.

It's also pretty obvious that he's seen her use the power to influence others by this technique. Not that it can work on you; it takes a far more potent level of power to get through a Water dragonette's resistance to mind control. She's not actually trying anything yet, though so there is that. “Obviously, since you're aware of who and what I am,” referring to your Yakuza nature rather than your spiritual nature, “it brings up the question as to what you think I'm up to. Which could be a great many things, Yamada-sensei. Still you don't seem like the kind who would take a situation like this at face value....”

He sips his scotch as you have some tea, before you sit up and lean over, collecting Mikurabe's tea and handing it to her. No poisons or spells in the tea, good. He's off to a good start. She takes it in one hand and continues to pet your horn with the other, feeling the glassy smoothness of it, exploring the indentations. You're too on edge to actually enjoy it much, and she's certainly no Kiki-hime, but you are relaxed and calm as far as they can tell.

“Well, the most obvious guess is that it has to do with the way out business is being run currently. There's been a few changes, and I have been told that much of it is your doing.” You make a noncommittal noise, showing you are being attentive as you sip your tea. It's really excellent. “So, the profits are flowing a little less well than I'd like, but we've been getting a lot more support from the businesses we deal with than is usual. That's fairly interesting, even if they're not businesses I would ordinarily expect much from.”

You feel the momentary flow of the sorceress' Shen, a gentle and specific burst of magical energy that tries to open your mind to his point of view, the gentle, pervasive suggestion that he's worth listening to. It is a simple matter to ignore the power of course, but you were listening anyways. Humans are more stubborn than you are, you suspect. Naturally all she feels is that the magic was taken in; the fact that it was dissipated is something she isn't privy to.

“Well, I can't say you're entirely wrong about my involvement, but it's something of a peripheral involvement. I'm not interested in your territories, your business, or taking over anything. I'm interested in what those businesses are doing, more than anything else, and how the profits are being directed.” Twirling your finger for emphasis, you gather a small but subtle collection of warmer air above you. “There are a few very important things happening soon, and I needed help from an old friend, who owes me a lot.”

He tilts his head, and pushes his glasses up higher on his nose. “Hyun Chisato.”

“Hyun Chisato,” you agree. “You're an intelligent man, and a very careful one, who has been planning for a long time, and has long ranging plans, I'm sure. My needs are immediate, but they won't interfere with your long term plans in the slightest.” It's true – no one's long term plans are going to survive this. “But by the same token, what I need done affects a lot more than just Tokyo. It's only started in Tokyo, and it is spreading from Tokyo, everywhere else. It will take months, and when it is over, things will go back to business as usual. No more bothersome underlings, no annoying mishaps, no unlucky coincidences.”

He frowns mildly and his fiancé sets her tea down on the back of the chair, looking down at you speculatively. As he thinks, you look into her eyes, your draconic ones making her shiver atavisticly, a tiny tremor she hardly notices in her conscious mind.

“And how are you finding Tokyo, Kaga Mikurabe – oh, sorry, Shinkai Mikurabe?” she blinks, startled at the fact you know her maiden name. “The marriage was fairly recent wasn't it? I imagine you were here a little before that though.” You smile winningly up at her and she looks down at you, traces of worry in her expression. You smile up at her and place your pointer and index finger on either side of your chin, a little lower than you would if you were making the lewd suggestion that it could be.

Her knowing smile tells you she hasn't picked up on it yet, what you pointed out to her, but there's definitely a little more hope she could seuce you. Poor thing. “It is a beautiful city, filled with amazing things. But it seems to be very....intense. It is hard to pick a place to start from. There is so much here, it is difficult to wrap one's head around it all.” She looks down and covers her mouth with one hand, fingers curled into her palm in faux shame. “I imagine you must think me a country bumpkin, speaking like that.”

“No, you're exactly right. Tokyo is a nightmare for people like me too. There's too much going on and not enough calm.” She looks a little surprised and then smiles, stroking your horn. There's a sharp crack as the Shen she tries to soothe you with discharges into the Void, a bright spark of lightning. You don't even blink as she pulls her hand back quickly. “But then again, I'm not like a lot of the people you deal with daily, you know,” you add with a smile. She stares at you, and then concentrates, seeing what you were actually making a point of.

Her smile looks natural enough for anyone who isn't you, but you can see the collapse of her grandiose dreams of making you hers, and she merely rests a hand along your horn. “You're right of course, but somehow I think you aren't like any others at all....” She looks to her husband bowing her head in deference and shame. This prompts a sigh from him and a distinct blush from her.

“Well, I can tell that Chisato-kohai must owe you a great deal to defy me in such a way. Which is understandable; there are a few people I would do the same for. But I'm afraid she's impacting certain assets I needs to be dealt with differently, Ryukusa-sama. I don't suppose you would be willing to....discuss these matters further at the next intermission?” He sounds very much like a businessman negotiating an unlikely but still possible trade deal, and you suspect that isn't far of the mark for either of you.

Poor Mikurabe looks crestfallen – actually crestfallen, no longer faking an emotion she isn't feeling for the sake of getting an edge. You take her hand and kiss it lightly, a chaste but honest kiss and you smile at her before turning to her husband with a more shark-like smile. “I think I could do such a thing. It would be much easier on all of us, I am sure, if the oyabun only had to meet in a pleasant and perfunctory meeting and did not feel the need to try and settle things in a harsh manner, don't you?” You hold up a hand, forestalling a comment. “Of course it would still be worth his while to meet me, it would have to be. But a more pleasant and warm meeting would be far better than a gloomy sword filled problem.”

He looks at you with those unreadable, calm eyes. “I agree heartily. Kakunemo-oyabun is a man who is very thorough in all that he does. I would much rather bring a finished puzzle to his table than to have one with missing pieces throughout.” You smile and rise gracefully, bowing a little more deeply than the last few times. He rises and bows a little more deeply as well, but less deeply than you do. You turn to Mikurabe sama , who bows much more deeply to you. You lean close as she rises and brush your lips along her cheek.

You are much wiser than most of your clan that I have dealt with, Shinkai Mikurabe. Thank you for that.” She looks surprised as you step back, your whisper guarded from all other, even the spies across the building from you. To them you direct a thought. (Keep up the surveillance, but watch out for the redhead – he's a nue-child, and you do not want to catch his attention.)

You catch a nod from the tomboy, who looks up and speaks to her companion just as her companion looks down. The tomboy turns bright red and looks down, stammering an apology, and the nogitsune girl looks up with the expression of a long suffering suitor thwarted yet again.

Ah, young love.

Thank you for reading and playing. I hope you feel things went as well as possible given Ryukuza's situation....

Oh, turns out she has better judgement than I expected of her, how convenient! Looks like this might have a happy ending after all. Unlike for that poor, poor nogitsune. Maybe we should suggest for Peta to give her some advice.

Thanks for running! Everything went perfectly fine, except for the whole bodyguard leaking our identity thing, but it didn't hamper things much really.

Thanks for running XS, yeah I dont know how we can make this work well, but there might be a chance.

If it makes you feel better, anons complicated things for me....

We can complicate things together until it's all muddled up and confused!

Thanks for writing
The tomboy nogitsune couple are cute

Lewd writing

We'll have to leave that to XS, my own attempts are invariably too purple and lengthy for anyone else to enjoy. Also I suck at writing established characters because I never feel like I manage to capture their characterization even when I'm confident I've got a handle on them while just reading - once I sit down to write it all feels like different people. Though that's not an issue I have specifically with lewd writing. To be honest I'm impressed with anyone who can write fan fiction that even somewhat manage to capture the characters decently.

Thanks for running! It was great.

Oh? What did you expect us to do?

>>1915256

Indeed they are.

I suppose helping them a bit would be spoiling the game between them, right?

I try not to expect anything other than guidelines from my players; if you expect something, they will invariable do something else. Mostly it was surprise vote changes in the midst of writing. I adapt quickly, fortunately.
