You are the former United States Navy warship USS HOEL, now returned as a shipgirl and ready to kick Abyssal ass!

Currently, you were in a bit of a situation.

You had just planted an honest to god nuclear bomb within the bowels of the Abyssal Colossus and made a hasty exit. Now, you've got a little under thirty minutes to reach minimum safe distance, whatever that was. All you really needed to know was to get as fucking far away as possible.

However, the moment you and your small team exited the Colossus, you found yourselves in a literal hellscape. Fires and explosions raged all around as Shipgirls indiscriminately shelled, bombed, and torpedoed the sleeping Colossus and everything around it. The Abyssals, meanwhile, weren't taking this attack sitting down and where responding in full force, swarms of beast and humanoid Abyssals swarming and returning fire.

You turn back to see the oil pipeline you and your team had snuck in through was completely gone. Either toppled by stray gunfire or taken down and reycled by Abyssal workers. Either way, you weren't getting back out that way.

"What's the plan!?" Haida barks, her gun up and ready. None of the Abyssals around you seemed to have noticed your presence, thanks no doubt to the combination of the diversionary attack your friends and Sam's stealth field.

"Looks like we're pretty fucked, eh?" Athabaskan sighs.

"Not the time." Haida groans.

"We're behind them, right, poi?" Yuudachi cracks her knuckles. You're not sure if that red glow in her eyes was natural or just a reflection from a distant fire. "Let's just plow through them!"

"That sounds really dangerous, Yuu..." Fubuki mumbles.

"Whatever gets us the fuck outta here in one piece." Sam shakes her head.

"I should be able to lead us out of here with minimal contact!" Paz offers. "Um, I think. Everything's pretty chaotic right now..."

"No time to fight! We need to get out of here!" You grunt as a flight of Abyssal fighters shrike overhead, zooming to intercept an incoming flight of Japanese dive bombers. "Paz, find us a route out of here!"

"Got it!" Paz nods. "I-I might need some help! There's a lot of interference out here!"

Damn, you certainly could help Paz out, but in doing so, you wouldn't be able to respond to any threats that might pop up, so you'd have to rely on the other destroyers to take care of things in the critical opening moments.

"All right, let's do it, Paz!" You nod as you fire up your radar.

"I'm counting on you, Big Sis!" Paz winks as her eyes glow.

You connect to Paz and immediately get a bird's eye view of the immediate area through Paz's planes. Naturally, the Abyssals have formed a defensive circle around the Colossus as the shipgirls were pressing in from all directions. However, numbers were still on the Abyssals' side, so the line was holding despite the shipgirls putting pressure on all points.

Then again, their objective was a distraction, not a breakthrough. You manage to catch Anna's signal, but she's too busy managing the other shipgirls' actions to be able to speak to you, even in the lightspeed confines of the datalink.

You do, however, manage to get in contact with Woel, who was in the midst of things with Iowa and Yamato. You merely send a quick message to her to feint a push from her position. Hopefully that will draw the Abyssals immediately in front of you away.

"Follow me!" Paz yelps as she bobs and weaves through falling bombs and shells, the rest of the group trying to keep up.

Hell, you're moving so fast that Haida and Athabaskan each pick up to the lagging Sam to make sure she can stay with the group.

Unfortunately, it looks like Woel's feint did not have the desired effect. There's still a tightly packed line of Abyssal battleships and cruisers directly in front of you, and a couple Wo carriers as well. This was certainly going to get complicated.

"Can we get through?" You ask Paz.

"It's really tight, and I'm not sure how good Sam's stealth field will be up close." Paz frowns.

"Me and 'buki can distract them, poi!" Yuudachi volunteers. "We're made for this sort of fight!"

Now that you think of it, a close up brawl in poor visibility was certainly the domain of the IJN, especially with all the torpedoes they normally carried around...

>You have 1 point remaining!

"Yes! I found a route!" Paz yelps happily. "Follow me!"

Paz then swerves to the right and you all follow her lead. Sure enough, the number of Abyssals begins to thin until there's a large enough gap in between their pickets that you're able to slip through undetected. Behind you, you could see the distant glow of fires from the damage wreaked by the assault.

"H-Hoel!" Anna's voice buzzes in your head. "Are you clear of the area?"

"Yeah, we managed to slip past the Abyssal lines." You affirm. You check your watch. Shit! Five minutes left?!"

"The rest of the force is already falling back!" Anna warns. "You all need to get out of there!"

Unnecessary, severe EMP doesn't happen in atmospheric bursts where the air absorbs much of the energy and incandesces from it; it's only a real concern with exoatmospheric bursts. "Let's go retreat with the others." You instruct.

And with that, your squadron sails off to follow the column of shipgirls withdrawing back to the Storm Wall. The battleships lag behind a bit, using their heavy guns to lay down long range fire to suppress the Abyssals and discourage them from pursuing. Likewise, carrier planes from all navies continued sorties to bomb Abyssal formations and chase away Abyssal attack wings.

You manage to link up with Portland, Indy, and Iowa. Portland gives you a respectful nod and Iowa high fives as you pass through the Storm Wall and to relative safety.

"Detonation!" Anna warns. "Brace yourselves!"

Thanks to the Storm Wall, you can't really see the explosion, but you can definitely feel it as the shockwaves ripple through the water's surface, causing all of the assembled shipgirls to stumble and waver.

"Excellent job, girls." The Admiral says. The the south, you could see a mass of conventional navy ships from all nations sailing through the Bering Strait. "We will send scouts through the Storm Wall to verify-"

Suddenly, an electronic screech blasts through you radio, and judging from the pained look from all the shipgirls around you, you weren't the only one to hear it.

"What was that?!" The Captain barks.

"T-the Storm Wall, it's shrinking!" Anna gasps. "At a rapid rate!"

"Does that mean we did it?" Indy wonders.

"No... something's wrong." Woel scowls.

Indeed, as you watch, the Storm Wall recedes but does not disappear. Instead, it seemed to be compacting itself smaller and smaller, as if something was drawing it in.

And then it was visible. The smoking hulk of the Colossus, sucking in the clouds of the Storm Wall like a Fletcher sucking a milkshake through a straw. Its bottom half is a smoldering ruin, but already, you could see Abyssals swarming over the breach, covering the holes and cracks with their own bodies.

"No way, are they-" Sam blinks.

And another electronic screech, stronger and louder and accompanied by a shockwave that hits you all with the force of a speed truck, knocking many of the assembled shipgirls down and causing the regular navy ships to rock and tumble like bath toys.

"A ships to battle formations!" The Admiral yells.

And the Colossus rises, its form reconstructed by the bodies of its own kin, and shrouded in a swirling black cloud sticking to it like a robe. Great golden eyes light up and you can only hear one word ring in your mind.

<<MALUS>>

All of the shipgirls stare in shock and horror, you included. Nobody knew what to do.

The navy ships, however, were already scrambling. They were beginning to spread out into battle formations, their guns swiveling and radars hot. Up in the sky, planes of all types were starting to vector in on the Colossus, apparently not hesitating at all.

Why would they? They didn't have a clue of what had just been born.

Damnit, the other shipgirls seemed to lost in a trance, as if the very act of the Colossus awakening seemed to have completely sapped their will to fight. You needed to do something and fast.

You catch sight of Anna, who was similarly zoned out and shake her by the shoulders.

"ANNNAAAAAA!" You yell.

"W-whaaa!?" Anna yelps, suddenly snapped back to reality. "Hoel? What's happening-?"

Then Anna's eyes glance back at the awakened Colossus, and they light up with recognition.

"The Colossus! It's awake!" She warns you.

"I saw!" You glower at Anna stating the obvious. "Anna, you need to work your comms magic to get everyone moving!"

Your words are punctuated when a flight a Super Hornets blast by at low altitude.

"R-right!" Anna gulps, her antenna jerking wildly back and forth. "I-I might need some help..."

You both concentrate as you pour as much of your energy into Anna as possible. Through the datalink, you can see her her glowing brighter and bright as she tries to transmit her message through the Colossus' interference.

You almost think you can her her singing, but that had to be your imagination.

Suddenly, the entire ocean lights up with small flares as shipgirls are snapped back to their senses.

"Well what are you waiting for?!" Nagato barks. "Attack!"

There's a loud, unified roar as every shipgirl, united by purpose, begins to move forward again.

The Colossus, of course, takes notice of this and turns it gaze to you all, considering you and your fellow shipgirls the greater threat. Immediately, explosions ripple across its entire body as countless guns built into its "skin" begin to fire, raining hot steel down on you all.

The combined might of the shipgirls and the regular navy respond in kind, cannons and missiles flying at the Colossus and slamming into its armor, and the battle begins in earnest.

However, while you're about to charge in, you're stopped by firm hand on your shoulder and you see Mulberry standing beside you.

"Hoel, this is important." Mulberry says, her usual serenity replaced with a cold, serious look. "There's somewhere else you must go."

"What?" You blink.

Mulberry's eyes then wander up to the Colossus' head. You immediately grasp the meaning of who she's referring to.

"She is waiting for you up there, Hoel. You, Pacifica, Woel, and Annapolis." She continues.

"The fuck?" You frown.

"I don't know why, but that's what the beast's cry was, a summons." Mulberry narrows her eyes. "In all likelihood, it may be a trap. But it's a chance to take out the Queen. But I do know that if this battle continues as it is now, not everybody is coming back, if we win at all."

You look back at the battle, where others were fighting with everything they had, flinging shells and desperately maneuvering to avoid the Colossus' thunderous return fire.

"All right, we'll do it." You nod.

"Jeez, always making the decisions before we can get a say, huh?" Woel rolls her eyes as sails up.

"Well, that's just what Big Sis is like!" Paz grins as she joins you.

"D-do I have to go as well?" Anna stammers. "I think it'd be better for me to stay and coordinate-"

"Anna, you're far more important to this than you know." Mulberry smiles softly as she ruffles the communication shipgirl's hair. "Do not worry, I'll hand things down here with the Admiral."

"Well, that's great and all, but how the hell are we gonna get UP there?" Woel points her thumb up to the Colossus' head.

"Why, you'll fly there of course." Mulberry smiles as she snaps her fingers.

A plane ejects from her Rig and lands on the water, suddenly expanding into full size.

A PBY Catalina flying boat.

"You are really filling us with confidence, here." You glare at Mulberry.

"Don't worry, like I said, I've assigned my best pilot." Mulberry smiles. "And I will provide ample air cover, if you so desire it."

"I can, too!" Paz winks as she's already deploying her little F-35s.

"Right, right, let's get this over with." You groan.

As the battle continues to rage, you, Anna, Woel, and Paz begin to board the Catalina, but you're then interrupted.

"Hoel."

"Sweet Pea." You turn to the cruiser shipgirl.

"Going somewhere?" She asks, raising an eyebrow.

"Somewhere you can't follow them." Mulberry says. "Please let them go."

"As if." Portland glares at Mulberry. "What about me? Or Heerman and Johnston? Are you just going to leave us out of this?"

"Pretty poor treatment of your own sisters." Heerman walks past you, arms crossed. "But, you were always impulsive like that, I guess."

"Now now, all of you get inside." Mulberry tuts. "The ride might be a little rougher now..."

And with that, the Catalina's engines roar to life as the plane gains speed before taking off into the flak filled skies. P-51s rise up alongside the wingtips as an escort as the one faerie sitting in the comically oversized cockpit tried to work the controls to get you to your destination.

Unfortunately, the plane is immediately rocked by flak as the Colossus' AA guns turn to engage the Catalina.

Her cries are complemented by the angry squeaking from the faerie pilot as he immediately goes into evasive maneuvers.

"We have to set down!" Heerman yells as she leans out one of the side doors and starts firing her railgun in an attempt to suppress the AA batteries. "If we stay up here any longer we'll get shot down!"

"We can gain altitude and try to find a safer landing zone." Portland grunts as her eight inch cannons roar."

"Or we can just fly low and jump out!" Johnston suggests.

"Or we can just take the direct route!" Paz says cheerfully as she points to the Colossus' face.

She can't possibly mean-

>Gain altitude and look for a safer spot.

"Hey!" You stride up to the cockpit next to the faerie pilot. "Fly us straight in!"

The faerie gives you a curious look, as if it didn't quite understand what you were asking of it.

"Fly. In. There!" You grunt.

The faerie mutters what you assume to be some sort of curse in its language, but it's in no place to disobey you.

Outside, Mulberry's P-51s and Paz's F-35's dive down, guns roaring and missiles flying to knock out the AA guns immediately threatening the Catalina. The faeirie pilot makes the sign of the cross before pushing the throttle forward.

The Catalina noses down and picks up speed.

"BRACE FOR IMPACT!" You bellow.

"Hoeeeeeel!" Anna screams.

The entire Catalina jolts and jerks as its nose impacts directly into one of the Colossus' eyes, the whole structure shattering like a giant stained glass window.

Almost immediately, all of you leap out, landing on your feet and ready for a fight.

Well, almost all of you. Anna loses her footing trying to disembark and falls flat on her face, stunning herself.

The inside of the Colossus' head was an empty chamber, the sides lined with a tangle of pipework and wires leaking steam and oilblood. In the center of the room was a pool of black, yet perfectly reflective liquid, the surface so still that you're not sure if it was actually liquid or a solid surface.

"So, you arrive with the intent to slay me, do you not?" A hard, feminine voice thunders throughout the chamber.

"Depends on what you want." You glower, guns at the ready.

"My only request is the child." The Queen thunders. "Do this, and I shall leave this wretched world forevermore."

She was seriously asking you to hand over Paz?!

"So the war would end...?" Paz pauses.

"Yeah, real fuckin' funny." You growl, putting a hand on Paz's shoulder. "I'm pretty sure that you know as much as I do that ain't happening."

"Then I will take her by force, if need be."

A figure then rises from the pool. She was pale. lithe, and horrendously beautiful. She also lacked all of those ugly machinery, armor, and mutations all other Abyssals seemed to have.

The Queen seemed to have a serene expression her face, her golden hued eyes falling upon Paz with a predatory hunger. Even without any visible armor or armaments, you knew this bitch was not going down without a serious fight.

The rest of your companions ready their weapons, and Anna just begins to regain her bearings, staring at the Queen in shock.

Everything is quiet for a second as everybody pauses, wondering if the Queen had been defeated or not.

But the smoke clears, revealing that the Queen had armored up, now covered in a thick black carapace, the eyeless head baring a hungry smile.

Your heart stops and your body breaks out in a cold sweat. You were beginning to realize that this Abyssal was far beyond what you expected. Even against all these numbers, could you even win against her...?

The Queen is fast, faster than even you, and for a brief second, you're afraid she's going to catch up to you as you backpedal.

But she suddenly dodges to side as Paz fires a volley of superheavy 16" shells, spoiling her aim. However, Heerman is more patient with her shot, and there's an electric whine as her railgun fires at full power. Your sister is forced to dig her heels into the floor as the recoil pushes her back, her arm mounted cannon smoking from the shot.

And that shot hits true, slamming into the Queen's left shoulder and blowing the entire arm off. The Queen shrieks in pain and the Colossus roars in sympathy.

"Nice shot, Heerman!" You grin.

"Focus, Hoel!" Heerman barks back. "Get her!"

This was your chance! The Queen was off balance and at her most vulnerable!

Your missiles streak towards the Queen, but she has enough energy for one last attack, lunging at your with unprecedented speed, her remaining arm lashing out you in a lethal slash.

You feel a force overtaking your body as Anna manipulates your movements via datalink, pulling you away from the Queen while Johnston rushes in, her protective shield raised. Even the thick, ceramic armor plate shatters like glass under the Queen's assault, showering all with shrapnel and metal fragments, but it's enough to blunt her blow. Johnston rolls away, using the leftover force of the Queen's blow to her advantage.

And finally, your missiles find their mark, all slamming into the Queen's open wound in her left shoulder. The Queen shrieks as the combined explosions further crack and split her armor open, making her vulnerable to a combined fusillade from both Portland and Paz, the two girls screaming at the top of their lungs as if it would give their shits more power.

The Queen's armor then shatters, and the Abyssal is sent flying back into the black pool, the impact causing the liquid within to catch alight, bathing the downed Queen in black fire.

And the Colossus begins to shake and rumble, the form being kept together by the Queen's sheer strength of will now beginning to fall apart. Pipes break and shatter and wires snap, causing water and steam to spray all over the room, instantly vaporizing from the heat of the Queen's funeral pyre.

"We have to get out of here!" Portland yells, pointing back at the Catalina. "This whole thing is going down!"

"Hoel!" Anna whimpers as she latches on to you to maintain her footing.

You stumble back into the crashed Catalina, where Portland is already digging in the back, pulling out a set of parachutes.

"Knew Mulberry would come prepared." Portland tosses you a parachute pack. "We might be a bit too low for these to work, but it's better than dying on this godforsaken thing."

The pilot faerie, still somehow alive, squeaks angrily. Apparently he's telling you all to stay in the Catalina. It's safer in here, apparently.

"You've gotta be kidding me." Portland groans.

"I think we can trust him, Sweet Pea." You grin. "Right Anna?"

"I actually wanted a parachute..." Anna mumbles.

"Traitor." You sigh and turn back to Faerie. "So do ya need anything from us?"

The faerie squeaks and points to the outside of the Catalina. Was he asking that you blast the Catalina free from the hole it made? Simple enough.

"Johnston, you ready?" You ask, drawing one of your 5-inch guns. Using Paz or Heerman or Portland for this would be overkill.

"Always." Johnston grins as she readies her own gun.

The twin blasts are enough to knock the Catalina free, and it begins sliding backwards and tumbles out of the Colossus' eye.

You have to grab on to Anna as the resulting fall causes everybody to float from the negative G-forces. Meanwhile, the faerie desperately works at the plane's control surfaces to try and reorient the plane, somehow managing to get the nose pointed down toward the water.

The the faerie squeaks a loud curse and points to a lever on the dashboard. The idiot forgot to turn on the engines! With a loud yell, you reach out and pull the lever.

The engines cough and sputter but don't start.

"FUCKING HELL." You scream as you slam the lever back and forth and the engines thankfully roar to life and the props begin to spin.

However, it was at this point that the Colossus truly was falling part, pieces of ship and Abyssal tumbling down and threatening to knock your plane out of sky. And if that wasn't bad enough, through either bad luck or the Queen's last insult, the main body of the Colossus begins to tilt and collapse in your direction, threatening to crush the Catalina under its massive bulk.

"Go go go!" Portland yells to the faerie.

"Faster. Faster is good!" Heerman adds.

The Faerie squeaks at them to be quiet.

"We are so fucking dead." Woel groans.

"This is fuuuuuuuun!" Paz cheers.

"Paz dear, put your seat belt on!" You chastise her.

The Faerie then pulls back on the control stick, tilting the Catalina's nose back up and slowing the plane's descent. Not enough to get it to fly, but enough so that the plane doesn't immediately shatter when it slams onto the water's surface belly first and skips off like a stone, sending all of you tumbling.

By this point, the Colossus' falling bulk was casting a shadow over the entire plane. Surely not a good sign. The Faerie throttles up, extracting as much power from the engines as it could as the Catalina continues to skip along the water, trying to claw its way back into the sky.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMjvqPJ5tKY

A few more skips, and finally the Catalina breaks free from gravity, and the whole craft lurches forward to escape the falling Colossus.

Everybody at this point was screaming, crying, or laughing at this point. Anna was clinging tightly to you and bawling her eyes out while you were-

Meanwhile, you were just laughing maniacally, as you were kind of enjoying this. Anna just clings to you harder, either not aware or not caring you weren't exactly terrified for your own life like she was.

The Faerie meanwhile keeps the Catalina straight and level, not bothering to try to maneuver to avoid the falling debris since that would bleed off airspeed. The Catalina's engines roar with one final effort before the Colossus slams down mere meters behind the tailfin. The Catalina's ailing engines finally burn out, and the plane slams belly first into the water one last time, smoking and steaming from the narrow escape attempt.

Everybody immediately evacuates the plane. Outside, you could hear cheering from the gathered shipgirls and sailors, and you couldn't blame them. The war was apparently over, after all.

The Faerie meanwhile stomps outside and starts squeaking angrily at Mulberry, and apologize profusely as she gently lets him back into her Rig.

Portland, Heerman, Johnston, Woel, and Paz were quickly pulled into the celebratory throng. You and Anna were still lagging behind a bit in the now derelict Catalina.

EPILOGUE

After the destruction of the Abyssal Colossus and by extension, the Abyssal Queen, all Abyssal presence on the planet essentially and literally evaporated.

After years of war, the nations of the world were suddenly left wondering what they would do with peace, especially now that there were hundreds of weaponized girls that no longer had an enemy to fight. It was determined that the primary shipgirl forces be demobilized, only to be recalled in the event the Abyssals ever returned, or if a similar existential threat manifested on the seas.

Thanks to efforts from the Admiral, shipgirls were also given the choice of resigning from their respective navies to live normal civilian lives. With certain restrictions, of course.

SHIPGIRLS

The vast majority of shipgirls went into reserve, being allowed to live civilian lives while periodically maintaining their military status.

Iowa, Enterprise, Midway, Yamato, Nagato, and other capital shipgirls were given officer positions in their respective navies, though in practice, these were largely symbolic as they had no actual command of conventional forces. However, this didn't mean they didn't exert a great amount of influence, even after their time had passed.

Dorsetshire and Repulse returned to the Royal Navy, where they stayed on with their fellow British shipgirls patrolling the sea lanes between the Commonwealth nations.

The Russian shipgirls largely decided to stay in the United States as asylum seekers and were granted honorary US citizenship, which remains a constant sore point between Russia and the US to this day.

Graf Spee finally returned to Germany, but wasn't satisfied with a sedentary lifestyle, instead opting to circumnavigate the world, stopping at every foreign port she could find.

San Francisco eventually started a joint venture with Tenryuu to open up a school/daycare center for destroyer shipgirls, since none of them really had legal guardians otherwise. Many other cruisers such as Atlanta, San Diego, and Ontario would likewise join in on the effort or open their own branches overseas. Luce, Wren, Daly, and Kidd are constant problem students, of course.

Haida returned to Canada, where she sank back into relative obscurity, though most likely deliberate on her (or her employer's) part.

Blyskawica returned to Poland as a national hero, and it's not uncommon to see her sailing the North and Baltic Seas, harassing Russian maritime traffic.

Portland decided to devote her full time to "illustrating", with Indy providing helpful writing support. Coincidentally enough, the was a marked increase in quality in the Love x Radar doujin series, much to Akigumo's chagrin.

Woel ultimately decided to return to the Queen Mary, where she runs the floating hotel alongside Mary. Guests now flock there to not only have a chance of seeing a ghost, but to experience the even rarer occasion of catching Woel as a maid.

Pacifica decided to live with Hoel, much to Vahlen's annoyance. It's not uncommon for Hoel to have to chance off the private investigators Vahlen sends to keep eye on her "daughter."

VAHLEN

Dr. Vahlen's advances in the fields of biotech thanks to her work on Abyssals led to a number of revolutionary medical and industrial breakthroughs, which would eventually earn her a Nobel Prize. However, Vahlen would always complain that her greatest work remains classified by the government, never to see the light of day.

SHEN

Dr. Shen would retire and run his own little mechanic shop, preferring to stay out of the public spotlight. However, that doesn't stop the many shipgirls that he's serviced from tracking him down so he could continue to maintain their Rigs, as they trust nobody else with them.

THE CAPTAIN

The Captain made quite the wave when he became the very first human to legally marry a shipgirl, sealing the deal with North Carolina shortly after the end of the war. Typical to his nature, though, he doesn't let the marriage get in the way of his work (much to North Carolina's annoyance), as he has been subsequently promoted to the rank of Admiral himself.

THE ADMIRAL

The Admiral turned down an offer to become one of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, instead opting to retire. He lives a private life, writing his memoirs while Sam still loyally tends to his needs, more as an adopted granddaughter than a secretary these days.

TAFFY 3

White Plains was one of the many shipgirls to stay on in the navy, and continues to patrol the waterways of the Pacific, ever vigilant for any re-emergent Abyssal threat.

Likewise, Heerman and Johnston also stayed in the navy, often attending many public relations events which often devolved into Heerman batting potential suitors away from Johnston.

HOEL AND ANNAPOLIS

Hoel and Annapolis decided to settle down near Hoel's "hometown" of San Fransisco, where Hoel has become the city's unofficial mascot. She's hardly ever seen anywhere without Anna at her side, and the two have been inseparable.

Paz is also commonly seen with them, often being treated as a surrogate little sister or even daughter. The exact nature of the relationship is of course a great deal of discussion among observers.

However, it's no debate that Hoel and Anna are close as any two girls can be, with some wondering if their relationship will ever be made legally binding...
