Year is 1984. You are in your third year at Hogwarts. Lord Voldemort was "killed" by the Boy Who Lived three years ago. You are John Apise, only child of a rich, pureblood family. You love potions, herbology and magical beasts. You are a Ravenclaw and you have a magical pet bee called Cordy.

>Now

It's been a couple of months since the school year started and the calendars shows December. You, along with your friends Glenn and Bryan are under detention and you are not allowed to join to next week's Hogsmeade trip. You try to concentrate on your classes instead to occupy your mind and spend most of your free time studying. You still also think about your encounter with the ghost called Gamp who promised to teach you new magics and gave you some strange information on the ring you found. But you don't really know what to think about these things. Finally, after some hours of reading an article on a certain species of Magpies you feel like your eyes are closing and you are dozing off. Right at that moment you hear Tim whisper to you from the next bed. "John!" he whispers, "Are you going to sneak off the castle to join us in Hogsmeade?"

>"No...sorry, I can't...it's too risky,"
>"No...I don't think so,"
>"No...I didn't want to go in the first place anyways..."
>"I don't know...is that even possible?"

"No... sorry I can't... I didn't want to go in the first place anyway..."

Tim seem a bit disappointed. He shrugs and wishes you good night and goes to sleep. You are left alone with your thoughts once again. You feel sleepy but you also feel that sleeping is wasting your precious time. Time that can be instead used for something more productive. With these thoughts in mind you slowly doze off and fell asleep.

Next morning comes with heavy snowing. Cordy buzzez happily and curiously around the windows and tries to get a glimpse from the outside. She has always been fascinated with snow. You head down to the Great Hall with your friends for breakfast. Just as you enter, the Ravenclaw quidditch team leaves the hall to go to their practice. You feel your stomach turn upside down a bit at the sight of the team. "Come on, John..." you tell yourself. "It is actually better for my classes that I am not in the team anymore..." You try to convince yourself.

Anya is reading the Daily Prophet on the table and you sit next to her. Glenn also sit across you. You and Glenn start eating while Anya seems pretty concentrated on the article she is reading. You take a look and it's about a new member of the Wizengamot. "...of course we are all curious about the mental health of this Miss Bones. I am sure all of you, my dear readers, remember how strange she was acting during the trials of certain Death Eaters and Death Eater suspects..." Anya folds the newspaper before you can read more. "I am so excited for the class!" She says enthusiastically. "I studied all week for it!" You have Transfigurations class today. A subject you have never been so good at...

>"Sounds great! I wish I was as good as you!"
>"Yeah...sounds great!..." [Sarcastic]
>"I don't really care much for this class... I wish we had potions instead,"
>"Thats cool... but I am a bit upset about this whole Quidditch stuff."
>"That's cool...but what's up with that article you were reading?"
>"That's cool...but do you guys know if Juliette and Alice made up yet or are they still not speaking to each other?"
>"That's cool...but I am a bit upset about the fact that I am not allowed to come with you guys to Hogsmeade,"

You just shrug and say, "I don't really care much for this class... I wish we had potions instead,"

Anya doesn't seem too pleased with that comment. She tells you she doesn't really enjoy the potions class because she is afraid of Professor Snape. Glenn also quickly nods and agrees. You accept that he is not the most friendly teacher ever but he was always fair to you and you respect his skills.

You keep talking with your friends while quickly scanning the room to see if Rachel is here or not. You look around with dreamy eyes. "...believe that his son was a Death Eater. The ministry seems really incompetent..." You hear Anya complaining about something and snap out of it. It seems like Anya and Glenn are now talking about the recently deceased Barty Crouch Jr. Just as you are about to join the conversation you see Bill Weasley and Malus Rhodian looking at you and then whispering something to each other and burst into laughter. You also see your mom's friends daughter Nymphadora Tonks enter the great hall and heading to the Hufflepuff table.

You decide to concentrate on the newspaper instead. You read through the headline first.

"Five New Quidditch Stadiums"

"...the Ministry pledges to build five new stadiums in a very short amount of time in these selected areas...Minister promised that the dark days of the war are over and we are entering a new golden era...Scottish Quidditch Captain also commented on..."

You read the frontline story quickly as it doesn't really capture your interest much. Then you see a small box at the bottom of the page which talks about the new Wizengamot members. "...our investigative journalist is concerned about the appointment of Miss Bones due to her strange behaviours at the Luisa Testudos trial. Turn page 7 for more,"

Your heart skips a beat. What does your aunt has to do with this? You quickly turn the page 7. The story is talking about this new juror called Amelia Bones. The writer argues that Miss Bones was acting very strange during the trial which found Luisa Testudos innocent of being involved in the murder of Amelia Bones' brother Edgar Bones. The article wonders if Miss Bones' behaviours were due to immense grief or has she become emotionally and mentally unstable after the war. It argues that such a person would not be fit to be a juror.

"Hey John, what are you reading? You look super serious," You hear Glenn ask.

You change the subject and fold the newspaper away. You talk a bit more about how the Ministry can reorganize itself to better counter dark influences in the future before leaving the Great Hall to go to your Transfigurations class.

As you walk out of the hall, someone intercepts your path. You look up to see a blond girl, in green and silver robes of Slytherin, wearing a green hairband and a silver serpent necklace looking at you. You smell fresh lemons and mint.

"Hi, John!" Rachel greets you. "I wanted to thank you for the other day... I...I guess I really needed a friend back there. Thanks for that," She is talking about her break down at the DADA class. "I guess I will see you at Hogsmeade on weekend?" She asks.

You smile back at her. "It was nothing really... I would have done the same for all my friends. Sadly I am under detention and can't come to Hogsmeade,"

She seems a bit disappointed with that. "Oh..." She starts. "Yes... I remember. The fight at the corridors,"

Anya cuts in and tells you that the class is almost starting. Glenn also quickly nods.

"Well..." Rachel says. "I guess I will see you later then," She tells you goodbye and leaves with her friends. You head to the classroom with Anya and Glenn.

Professor mostly talks about the subject of Animagus during the class and Anya is pretty well prepared for it. She even earns some points for Ravenclaw. You wonder what would your animal form be if you were to master the art of becoming an Animagus.

"I will be an Animagus... you will see," Juliette whispers you. The class ends without any important incidents and you head back to the Ravenclaw tower. This whole detention thing about the Hogsmeade is really lowering your mood. You head to your bedroom and try to decide what to do.

You try to understand if the caverns you found earlier on the map that goes towards the lake are safe for a RE meeting. You compare some notes and some other small maps you have with Pylia's map and try to come to a decision. After a few hours of drawing, taking notes and thinking hard you come to the conclusion that the caverns are most likely empty and safe but it might be possible with some exploration to find some tunnels that connect the caverns to the Forbidden Forest.

"Hey, John!" Bryan interrupts your thoughts and enter the room. You look up to greet him.

"What are you working on?" He asks. You explain to him that you were just checking some old maps and the two of you start chatting for a while. After some time Bryan asks you what do you think will happen to the remaining Death Eaters and if it's possible for Ministry to catch them all before they can do any more harm.

>"I am not sure. I hope so. I trust the Ministry,"

If they stopped carrying about politics to see who comes up as the one that 'solved' the death Eater problem and worked in doing so things would be faster. Thing is the Ministry is needed with all of it's defects. If the Ministry manages to organize themselfs they will manage to grab all those death eaters. You shrug. "I am not sure. I don't really trust the Ministry to do a good job," You don't know why but you have a distrust towards the Ministry. Maybe you are influenced by your parents chats at the breakfast tables or due to the recent scandal of Barty Crouch's son.

Bryan seems a bit surprised with that. "Why don't you trust the Ministry? Don't you think the Aurors are capable of defeating the dark wizards? Ministry is our only chance against these groups."

"I think the people in the Ministry mean well, and I trust the Aurors, but I think the Minister and upper management want peace so badly that they'd rather ignore danger than let people feel afraid."

Bryan thinks about your answer and nods. "Maybe you are right," he says. "I think we need more Aurors to keep the peace. You never know what sinister plans these dark wizards may still have..." You spend a bit more time talking with Bryan about the Ministry and after that you go to sleep.

Next day, Tim heads out early to join the Quidditch practice of the team and you focus on your classes. The week ends without any further incidents and finally it is the weekend.

All of your friends meet in the Great Hall and the whole school head out of Hogwarts to visit Hogsmeade. Only people left behind from Ravenclaw is you, Bryan and Glenn due to your detention. The game actually doesn't take that much time. Glenn makes some very obvious mistakes right from the beginning. You easily defeat him and win the game.

"Chechmate!" You claim happily. Glenn doesn't answer at first. He seems pretty concentrated on the board. Bryan, who was watching the game also congratulates you and makes a joke about Glenn's chess skill. Glenn doesn't laugh or react. Then he just looks at you. "I, I feel dizzy," He says. His eyes go white for an instant. His arms fall down, hitting the board and sending all the pieces scattered on the floor. His head falls back and his body looks completely motionless on the chair.

You see Glenn tremble and mumble something. Bryan looks very confused and afraid but he acts quickly and grabs Glenn before he would slip off the chair. You also jump to your feet and try to take care of your friend.

His tremblings slows down and he starts to whisper some words. "...white sand, across the shore, wind, strong winds, too strong, white cliffs over white sand and dunes," Bryan tries to shake him off and wake him up but it fails. You come closer to hear what is he saying. "... Dung beetle walking over the ring of sand, baleful falsely dead servant of the Dark Lord saved his master from the revealer of his dark secret,"

"John, what is happening? What is he talking about?" Bryan asks stressfully.

"...Heir of the Unclean Leader will draw blood to take what is his and lead his race to revolt and for their fate to unbolt."

You look as confused as Bryan. "I...I don't kn-" Just as you are answering Glenn stops trembling. Looks at you. "He will come for what is his, once the forgery reveals,"

Then he stops breathing and speaking for a second. And then opens his eyes. He looks puzzled. You can tell he has no idea what just happened. Bryan also looks at you with the same confused face.

"Did I have a vision?" Glenn asks in a shaken voice. "It felt stronger than the other ones,"

"Vision?" Bryan asks. "You see visions?!"

Glenn just nods and heavily breathes. "Keep it to yourself, please," He asks Bryan. Bryan nods and promises to keep it a secret and then asks you what do you think it was about.

"I have no idea at all... we need to do some research,"

Glenn brushes of the cold sweat from his forehead and nods. Bryan still seems puzzled but after Glenn explains to him that his family has the Gift and the previous visions he had, he seems to be more intrigued now. He repeats the words Glenn said and start to speculate on them.

"What can we even research about this?" He asks.

"Whatever you think, we should do it now. The school is empty. Library is empty. We can go and find some answers," Glenn offers. You are a bit surprised that he is so eager to go researching since he still looks a bit shaken but he assures you that he is okay and ready to learn more.

"We should research on this Unclean Leader and this revolt,"

Three of you leave the Ravenclaw tower and start heading to the library. The weather is cold and snowy. A part of you is glad that you are inside the castle and not out there. The castle feels empty and quiet with many students at Hogsmeade. The mood, reinforced with the dark clouds and Glenn's dark words, is oppresive.

After a going down many stairs and turning many corridors you reach the library. Library is empty as you guessed. The librarian also doesn't seem to be here. You head inside and start looking for some books. Bryan looks at the biographies section and you look at the history books. Glenn also comes with you. "I hope nothing bad will come from this," he whispers to you when you try to reach for some books at the upper shelves. You remember the other times Glenn had visions. They usually led to bad things. But at least it's better to be prepared than not.

After almost an hour of searching Bryan comes with an old dusty tome. He tells you that there is a section on an old Dutch wizard called Alof the Soiled. He was a wizard who led a group of other wizards and participated in some Muggle battles over the control of a county called Flanders. Bryan tells you that this guy might be this Unclean guy and you also found a book that might be useful. In the book you read an entry that details a Goblin rebellion lead by a Goblin called Urg the Unclean. Glenn asks you what do you think.

>"I think we should try to learn more on Alof the Soiled.
>"I think we should try to learn more on Urg the Uncean.
>"I think we should take both of these books and ask someone else for help." [Who?]

"I think we should take both of these books and ask the Headmaster else for help."

Suddenly you see Glenn's face going white and scared. Bryan also almost jumps. You turn your head not sure what to expect and see a black robed man almost towering you. It's Professor Snape. How did he even come so close? You can swear that the library was empty. Maybe you were just carried away while reading.

Snape looks at you and your friends and then glances at the books you are holding. "Studying history, are we?" He asks. "While all your friends are enjoying the...delights...of Hogsmeade,"

>Yes...yes, Professor. We were just...spending our detention...studying.

You answer Snape's question with another question. "Do you have information about prophecies, Professor?" He doesn't seem very amused. "Prophecies? What are you talking about, Apise?"

Glenn is really uncomfortable now. "We were just reading about some prophecies, Professor...nothing really..." He adds quickly.

Snape looks at the two of you. "Reading...about...prophecies..." He says slowly. "I know enough to know that the prophecies rarely work and when they do, they usually leave the bad taste of a sick joke in your mouth. They are self fulfilling untrustworthy things that are best left alone. A healthy mind does not dwell on such things. And why do you think the Headmaster should spend his precious time listening to your babbling about prophecies?"

>"Because we think what we read might be important to the safety of the school,"

Snape still doesn't seem very convinced. "These are serious claims Mr. Apise. I hope you are not wasting my time. So what is this dangerous prophecy that only you know? Where is it written?" he asks with sarcasm. "The Headmaster is away for a while. So tell it to me,"

Glenn nudges you from behind. It is clear that he doesn't want you to share the prophecy with Snape and doesn't want him to know that he has the Gift. Bryan mostly stays quiet.

You nod.

It sounds like it's Urg the Unclean, simply by name alone. But that's not a good basis, and what we need to know is how each was defeated.

Gringott, did our research uncover how the wizard and the goblin were defeated? From the vision, their undead servant saved them from one who revealed their dark secret.
>>
>>1886759
>Gringott, did our research uncover how the wizard and the goblin were defeated?

Yes.

>Alof the Soiled was blinded and drowned by the Muggles who won the battle he was involved in.

Urg the Unclean has a wiki entry which is basically what is written on the book.
http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/18th_century_goblin_rebellion

And Alof the Soiled doesn't have much information on him. His name is only mentioned in a list of Dutch wizards who were killed by Muggles during the 13th Century.

Basically Glenn and Bryan has also some ideas. Glenn thinks that the Heir of the Urg the Unclean may refer to a goblin or Heir of Alof may be a Death Eater who lives in Britain now.

Bryan also thinks that the Dark Lord must refer to You-Know-Who and he thinks that the prophecy has some not closely related parts in it with some kind of connection to him. He is also more leaning on the idea that a Goblin will try to rebel or attack the wizards.

You on the other hand can discuss here to form some kind of idea or maybe try to share all of these information with others and ask for their insight. Or simply try to research more. Or drop all of it and continue your life.
>>
>>1886873
Urg does seem to fit, with his race revolting against the wizards.
>>
>>1886873
Something coming at high speed to white cliffs? Could that be a reference to the Dover white cliffs?

Alof's defeat by Muggles and the faking of his death does seem to fit the vision, since it was actually difficult for Muggles to kill wizards. The Muggles also would have been more easily fooled by a fake death.

With what you can gather and think before answering to Snape, is that you think the prophecy hints at the heir of Urg the Unclean. You think that might be the Goblin you saw in Hogwarts during your first and second year. Who also took the Ring you found from the Velvet Room. You are not sure what is his though but it seems he will attack someone to take something of his and then possibly try to organize a rebellion.

You are not sure what is this place of white cliffs or the ring of sand but the old ring Goblin took occupies your mind. You try to remember some information about all those research you made on the Ring and you only remember that it was made by a wizard named Balerius. You remember he was from somewhere near Brittany or northern France. That might be where it was forged. Ring was supposed to have some kind of dark spell related to Basilisk enchanted on it but you remember your spell to sense any dark magic on the Ring was failed.

You also remember what the Gamp the Ghost told you about the Ring, that someone had it in Hogwarts, someone who got in big troubles over his head and then some other person stole it from him and replaced it with a fake. The thief who stole it also according to the Ghost has passed away recently. So you don't know what happened to the real Ring and according to this information the Ring that the Goblin took from the Velvet Room was the fake one.

You don't know who is this Dark Lord but there is only one Dark Lord you know and he must not be named. You are not sure who is the falsely dead servant of the Dark Lord or whatever that means or how is this related to the Goblin. You also have no idea what is the dark secret of the Dark Lord.

Now, Snape awaits for your answer: >>1886744
>>
>>1887372
"I believe that it has something to do with the heir of Urg the Unclean. I've seen a goblin running through the castle's hallways, and once with some dark ring, that when I looked up the design I saw on it, found that it was made by a wizard named Balerius. There was also a bit about a Dark Lord being not really dead, but I'm not sure how the two are related."

Snape looks at you seriously. He looks around to see who is in the library.

"A goblin in the castle's hallways?" He repeats. "And you waited this long to report this incident?" He doesn't seem very pleased. "I don't know anything about a ring but...you should be careful of what you are saying about...the Dark Lord, Mr. Apise."

Bryan and Glenn also seem very tense. Bryan enters the conversation with a hesitating voice and says, "Professor, I believe it is about a servant of the You-Know-Who...not himself,"

Snape looks at the three of you carefully. "And who told you about this prophecy in the common room?"

Snaps can obviously deduce that it must have been one of us, since everyone else is at Hogsmeade and we're the only students left.

So he'll work it out, and we'll have kept our word to not tell anyone.
Maybe it'll teach Glenn to not needlessly keep secret an embarrassing thing.

We could always just say "Professor, we both know that given the three of us are the only students in the entire Tower, AND our continued reticence to provide a written prophecy, and that any lie previously would have been seen through (especially with you two being so fidgety in front of the Professor), that the logical deduction is that one of the three of us has the Gift. I am sorry I could not be more forthright."
>>
>>1889101
Nah in this situation the better we can do is not say to much. Because then Glenn will notice and blame us for it. Besides Snape is smart he works potions for fuck sake. And if in the end he doesn't believe us and things turn to shit we can always tell him he should have trusted the professor.
>>

Alright, so we don't say anything about the deduction until after Snape leaves.
Then we lay out to Glenn why he's such an idiot for thinking he could keep a secret. And then telling him how if Snape terrifies him so much already, does he really think he could lie to Snape's face.

"I am sorry but I can't tell you that sir. The person who told me don't want people to know he has this Gift,"

Snape doesn't show any emotion. "You don't get to keep secrets as if mentioning the Dark Lord is a mere game, Mr. Apise." He says coldly. "Anything you three ever hope to keep to yourselves, I can extract them, slowly and fully, if I want. That wouldn't be pleasant at all,"

He tells three of you to follow him. You obey without hesitation. He leads the way and all of you leave the library and head to Professor Snape's office.

He sits at his desk and three of you wait infront of the desk standing. Room is full of bottles and potions. A weak fire in the fireplace warms the cold room. You can sense your friends are nervous and probably afraid. He asks all of you to give him all the details about this prophecy and the goblin story you told earlier. You do as he says and give him all the information you know excluding the Velvet Room stuff. He seems to be listening very keenly and taking mental notes. He also asks you if your family knows about this prophecy. You tell him no.

After you are finished Professor tells you not to go wandering around and telling these things to everyone. He tells you to be discreet and tells you that you will hear from him later. He tells you that the Headmaster will decide if he wants to know more and if he wants to know who told you this prophecy. But for now, he says that you can go.

Once you are out of the office Glenn thanks you that you kept his secret but he is still not comfortable with sharing all of these with Professor Snape. To your surprise, Bryan also agrees with Glenn. He tells you that he doesn't trust Professor Snape. "I have read a lot about the recent trials about...You-Know-Who and his followers," Bryan says. You feel your stomach turn upside down as your aunt's trial comes to your mind. Does Bryan know about her? "And..." he continues, "I am not sure if I trust the verdict on Snape,"

>"We had to share this information with a Professor. It is too dangerous to keep a secret. I am not sure if I trust Snape either but I think it is okay,"

"I trust Professor Snape with this information. He will share it with the Headmaster and he will know what to do," You say. Bryan shrugs and Glenn seems reluctant to agree. So you add, "After all, even after he told us he could simply take the knowledge from us, and i believe someone that is a professor of hogwarth knows how to do so. The only thing he did was hearing our words and not using any kind of magic."

With that they both start to nod slowly. "Yeah...I guess you are right..." Glenn says.

You continue, "Can you honestly say you could have lied to his face? Besides, we're the only three students here, he could deduce one of us got the prophecy just by logical deduction."

Glenn seems convinced now. Bryan still seems hesitant though. You can tell he has some kind of problem with Snape. But he doesn't say anything.

You three continue to climb the stairs back to the Ravenclaw tower and on the way you try to think what to do next.

You gather all the books you found and keep researching.

There are a lot of books you go through, history books, books on goblins, books on certain wizards, books on ring making and anything related so it takes days and days to read through all of them. Researching takes most of your time for days and you spend most of your free time occupied with the books.

Now you have some ideas and information on Goblins and their culture and the modern lifestyle they have these days. You also know the locations in Britain they live. "Mostly around Nottingham and to the Scottish highlands to the north..." One of these communities to the north is not that far away from Apise Manor.

You also know almost everything about Alof the Soiled. His life doesn't seem to be connected to the ring or the goblins at all. His name mostly comes up in the books that deal with Wizard-Muggle relations. Even in some of the recent ones his name is listed among wizards and witches killed by Muggles. Mostly the books lists British wizards such as "Deandrian - lynched by Muggles...Filch - killed by Muggle firearms...Rosenfeld - burned at the stake by Muggles..." but they usually also include historical events such as the deaths of foreign wizards which also lists Alof as, "Alof the Soiled, Dutch wizard, ca 1251, drowned by Muggles after a bloody battle."

Books on Ring-making are mostly useless though. They just give general information on how to enchant Rings and what kind of spells are the most suitable ones. You don't really get much information on this subject.

When you research on Balerius you learn that he lived in Brittany, France. You also learn that he was very active in the Muggle world, often entering battles and killing many Muggles with dark spells and curses. He was employed for some time in Italy and it is rumored that he killed a Basilisk that was troubling some villages. His death is kind of unclear. Some books cite that he died in Italy while some cite that he died in north of France near the caverns he lived on the beaches. Important thing you learn about him is that one book talks about a Goblin who helped Balerius craft a magical ring. The ring was said to have similar powers to a Basilisk, that it could petrify people.

You don't come across anything related to faking death or any dark secrets of any dark lords.

Glenn also tells Anya about the whole thing and she also helps you with the research. She thinks that since the Goblin took the fake Ring from the Velvet Room, he might come back to get the real one. But none of you know where is the real one and she doesn't know who might be the falsely dead servant of the Dark Lord.

It's almost Christmas time and you will soon go home for the Christmas break and the New Year's. The headmaster has still not returned and Snape hasn't contacted you either.

You decide to visit Professor Snape and ask if there has been any progress with contacting the Headmaster. He says he already told you he would contact you if the need arise and tells you that the Headmaster is informed and quite busy with matters that do not concern you.

Before leaving his room, you ask if you can receive extra credit work over the break. That seems to get him intrigued. He tells you to brew a vial of Draught of Living Death during the break and bring it to him after. You feel a bit worried as you never tried to brew it before and it is a bit difficult potion but you accept the task.

After the last week of the semester you are heading back home for the Christmas. This semester has been particularly hard with being out of the Quidditch team, new hard classes, getting detention and missing Hogsmeade trip... worst part was listening to how much fun people had there. And of course the unexpected prophecy and all the trouble it brought...

But finally you are at home.

Your parents welcome you warmly and you feel that you have missed them. It's almost evening when you arrive so you just eat the dinner with them and then head to bed. Whatever issue you want to discuss with them has to wait until the morning. You don't really feel any coldness between your parents but at the back of your head you still feel like something is off since your mom had that deadly duel with the Death Eater.

Pick 2 for the first days at home. You decide to brew the potion after you are relaxed a bit first.

You approach your dad and start talking about girls. You ask him about his experiences at your age and he answers you truthfully. He tells you that he had two girls he dated before your mom. He tells you first time he dated a girl, he was in fifth grade at Hogwarts.

You ask him how to approach a girl and how to understand if they like you or not. Your father seems geniounly interested and enjoying this conversation. He seems to be having fun and kind of proud at the same time. After you ask him about all these, he gets suspicious before answering and asks you if you have a certain girl in mind or just asking in general? And then he asks you what was that girl's name in your class...Anya, or something?

>No..just asking...you know...generally...nothing about her or anyone else.
>Anya is my friend, dad. It's not about her... I think I like someone else.

Your dad smiles at you and listens carefully and says, "So you have lot of common things with Anya...but you feel different when you are with this other girl, Rachel. That is completely normal and understandable. When you have lot of things in common with someone and when you are good friends it doesn't has to mean that you will feel romantic feelings for them. Just as you could also feel excited about someone even if you don't have a lot of things in common."

You nod and listen. Your dad continues and asks, "So tell me about this Rachel. Why do you think you feel excited when you are with her? What is she like? Do you have some things in common with her?"

>Well...I think she is cute.

"Well...I think she is just different...like mysterious and interesting."

Your dad nods and smiles. "Mysterious? All right." He seems to be entertained by your answer. He tells you that you are still young and have lots of time ahead of you and he didn't even start to date a girl at your age but he tells you that everything you feel is perfectly normal and gives you an idea, he tells you that you can maybe ask Rachel out to have butterbeer together at Hogsmeade during the next trip.

This idea takes a hold in your mind and you already start to run possible scenarios of how that would go in your head.

Later that day you also chat with your parents on how is your aunt doing. Mom tells you that she is okay and she is settling to her new home. She says that it was a bit difficult year for everyone last year with all the stuff happened but now your aunt is completely fine and just enjoying a quiet life without any media attention.

You ask your parents to invite aunt Luisa for Christmas. Your mom opens her mouth to say something but your dad intercepts and tells you that she will not be joining us this year. Your mom seems a bit upset after that but doesn't say anything. "Sadly, your aunt will stay at home this year. She has some stuff to take care of at her new home," your dad concludes. It seems like your dad wants your aunt to stay low and don't draw any attention to the family anymore.

You also ask them if your cousin and uncle are coming for Christmas and your dad tells you that they will.

Apart from your cousin and uncle, some family friends will also be joining for the dinner. Your dad tells you that some old friends of mom are also coming. He doesn't seem very pleased about that though...or maybe you are just imagining.

You decide to gather some extra ingredients at the grounds and head out. You are wearing your Ravenclaw scarf along with a yellow and black winter cloak that from afar looks like a bee.

The weather is cold but not windy. The snowflakes falls to the ground almost in slow motion. You look around in the grounds and slowly start to walk further and further away from the manor. You use your wand to open some kind of path before you, dividing the tall snow layer on the ground. You gather some leaves, some berries and even some mushrooms. It's been almost two hours you are outside, the weather is getting colder and colder and your feet wetter and wetter.

You pass over a frozen creek and continue more towards the nearby forest. Just as you enter the forest you see a certain kind of slugs standing still, frozen on some of the trees. You start collecting them as you know they are useful for certain potions.

>+1 Potion Preparation bonus until the end of the second semester.

Just as you are about to finish your collecting, you hear something coming from the sky. The weather is getting pretty cold but still not windy and the sun will be set in two hours. So you should head back soon. When you look up to see what is the sound, you see a fast shadowy figure flying over the forest towards a clearing. The figure was someone on a broom. It was coming from the direction of the manor and heading towards the forest. You squint your eyes and see that it's your mom on her broomstick. Before you can react you see her start descending. You walk a bit towards her and then you see her land on the snow with a perfect landing. Another cloaked and hooded figure waiting for her there.

You decide to announce you are here to your mom. You take out your wand and cast the Vermillious charm towards the air. Green sparks shoot out from your wand and illuminate the forest ceiling. Suddenly both your mom and the cloaked person she is speaking to draw their wands and look around very nervously...almost afraid.

You raise your hand and your mom sees you. You can see now that the cloaked person is a man. She lowers her wand and says something to the cloaked man and he also lowers his wand. Your mom waves towards you and you walk towards them. They talk about something while you walk towards them but you are not able to hear what is it about. Your mom hands him something and he puts it in his robes.

Mom seems tense and surprised. She asks you what are you doing out here. You tell her that you were gathering ingredients for potion brewing. All the while you feel the man's eyes on you. He seems to be very interested at you but you feel disturbed. Your mom introduces the man as Stuart Craggy, an old school friend of her. He has a full beard and uncombed dark hair. In fact even his robes and cloaks look dirty and tattered. You feel the air is very tense and uncomfortable since you arrived. They also don't talk much with each other and your mom tells you that he is leaving after introducing him.

The man tells you that he is very pleased to meet you but he feels rather strange to you. You don't really know what to say. After that he thanks your mom and takes off with his broomstick. Once he takes off and flies away you are actually very impressed by his flying skills. He is fast and agile. Could be even better than mom.

"Well... let's go home then, it's getting dark," Mom says. She also takes you on her broomstick and both of you take off and fly towards home.

As you fly towards home, the weather gets colder, the evening gets darker and snowflakes keep entering your eyes.

Before you reach home, Mom tells you that she needs to ask you something. "Can you keep a secret, John?" she asks. Confused, you answer "Yes, mom." She sighs. "I need you to keep that man as a secret...between us," She says. You can sense that she is nervous. "Even from your dad..."

Before you can ask anything, she continues, "He was a friend of mine...from school. He has some problems...with the Ministry. He need to be hidden for a while...I just give him something that he could use. But you need to promise me to keep this as a secret from everyone,"

"I promise, mom...does he has a problem similar to Aunt Lisa's?" You ask.

Mom grabs the broomstick and descends in a rough way. She doesn't seem very focused on her flying which also feels strange. "...something like that. You wouldn't be seeing him again so don't worry about it."

She lands somewhere in the garden and an house elf comes running to take the broomstick and your bags. She tells you once again to remember your promise and both of you enter the manor. When you are taking the stairs, your dad sees both of you. "I was looking for you, Joan. You were out with John?" He asks.

Your mom smiles and says, "Yeah we went out to gather some herbs for John. I am afraid he will become a Potions Master if he keeps this up!" You feel a bit disturbes at how easily she lies and convincing she sounds. She doesn't look tense or stressful at all...which is a very strong contrast to just a few minutes ago. Your dad also laughs and says becoming a Potions Master is a good career choice and then goes on to talk about some boring details about jobs available at the Ministry or at some organizations you don't even know about.

That night you head to bed early, feeling tired and cold from your walk outside. You sleep but you are restless. You have strange dreams and wake up more than once. Finally you feel more at ease with the dawn and today is Christmas.

You head downstairs for the breakfast but once you are the doors to the dining hall, you hear your parents arguing about something. "...you told me there was noone else!" you hear your dad almost shouting. Mom is also sounding quite angry, "I told you already!" she says.

You immediately think about the man from yesterday. Did dad learn about him?

"...can you even imagine what will happen if these stories continue?" Your dad asks. You hear him taking the newspaper and folding it in a rough way, then reads something from it. "...continuing with our special story on Amelia Bones, today we will explore some new theories..." He folds it again and his voice gets louder with each word. "Was she emotionally shocked? Threatened by someone? Got crazy by her grief? Or," He basically shouts at this point, "Or, was she under the influence of the Imperius Curse!"

"I told you! Enough! I told you it is not what you think it is! It has nothing to do with me!" Your mom answers defensively.

>Go upstairs, afraid of intervening and spend time in your room. [Doing What?]
>Knock the door and enter the dining hall in hopes that they would stop arguing

You stay behind the door and continue listening. Your mom also sounds really angry now. She seems to be taking the offensive. "I am not the one who is inviting Malfoy to the dinner!"

Your dad snorts. "I didn't invite him. He basically invited himself. He surrounded himself with all those lackeys in the Ministry. Only reason I tolerate him is that we need the department's approval for the transaction..." Your dad is talking about something he needs from someone called Malfoy to get an approval from the Ministry to sell a family holding or something like that... You don't really get it.

"What do you think? I invite him here so all three of us can sit around the table and share memories from the Slug Club or something?"

What the hell is a Slug Club you think to yourself.

"You know as well as I do that he is a fucking Death Eater!" Your mom shouts. It's the first time ever you hear your mom using such profanity.

Your dad is also taken aback. "Merlin's beard! I didn't know that was an issue for you,"

You hear some movements coming from behind the door. "Don't you dare to go there, Ed. Don't you dare," Your mom's voice is shaking now. After a few minutes of silence you hear your father apologizing to your mom. And then silence again.

You head upstairs and leave your parents alone to their fighting, hoping that they will figure it out. Cordy buzzez around the room happily when you enter. She seems focused on hunting a fly but loses her interest when you wave her to come over. She lands on your lap and you start to pet her furry back. Her antenna curve towards you and she enjoys your presence. You take some small vial of sugary nectar water and give it to her. She starts drinking it happily. You remember how she helped you defeat that crazy vampire witch two years ago. Feels like yesterday. Time flies. Cordy has also grown since than. She seems much more intimidating now...but still she mostly looks like a fluffy toy.

You wonder if you can teach her how to play fetch...maybe with a Snitch... Could be an interesting thing to try later.

You spend most of the day with Cordy in your room and when the guests are almost starting to arrive your parents seem to have worked their issues and they look normal now. First guests start to arrive and you see your cousin and uncle among them. There is also someone you don't know which your dad introduces as Mundungus Fletcher and tells you that he is one of the best merchants on rare artifacts and really old antiques. This guy seems a bit strange and keeps looking around but you pay him no mind.

After that you see your friend Valdis arriving with his father. You completely forgot Valdis was also invited to the dinner. You chat a bit with Valdis and they head to the table to grab some canapes. After welcoming Valdis and his father, your dad walks over the doors to welcome a long blond haired man. Your mom is also talking to a woman and there is a girl next to the woman as well. You think you know her, she is from Hogwarts. But you are not sure who is she.

You join mom's conversation. The woman she is talking to is around her age and you can tell by the way they are talking that they are somewhat old friends. They are talking about Hogwarts and some professors. The girl is also listening to them and looks very interested in the conversation. She has brown hair with some hues of red and she is around your height. "Ah...John! Come here!" Your mom waves you over. "Do you know Beth?" She asks you.

You are sure that she is a third grader in Hogwarts but no matter how hard you try you really have no idea who is she.

>"...umm yeah of course, how are you Beth?" [Lie]
>"...umm I think I saw you in a class before but..."

You forward your arm and offer her a handshake. "Hi! Nice to meet you Beth!"

She shakes your hand and then says, "Hi! We are taking some classes together for three years now!" Just before you could react she laughs. "But yeah...we never really talked before." Now you remember she is in Hufflepuff. Beth Fawley.

Beth's mom also laughs and says, "John is quite the celebrity I believe... good job defeating that vampire witch! I still shudder to think she taught all of you kids for an entire year...What was Dumbledore thinking?"

"I am sure Dumbledore just made an honest mistake," Your mom adds quickly.

>"Ehm...thanks...it was nothing really...I had help..." [Humble]
>"Yeah... I think Dumbledore is getting a bit too old," [Arrogant]
>"You are welcome Mrs. Fawley. Beth and all my other classmates are under my protection!" [Cocky]

"Ehm...thanks...it was nothing really...I had help..." you say. "And I was lucky...she underestimated me and my friends so she left herself open...I am sure Beth would have done the same..."

"Of course you are also quite infamous for all that duelling stuff...and that crazy long detention!" Beth says.

"What detention?" Mom asks.

Beth shrugs with an "Oops" expression on her face. Just before you could react, Valdis comes to your rescue. "It wasn't John's fault!" You are grateful that at least someone is defending you. After a few minutes of heated discussion about the whole duelling incident and the detention you got, your mom doesn't look that angry but you know that she feel disappointed with you. Even Beth tells your mom that the other kids are known to cause trouble and it wasn't your fault.

New guests start to arrive as well and now the whole living room is packed with people. Thankfully your mom needs to welcome new people so she doesn't dwell on the whole detention topic much. Your mom and Beth's mom both walk away to talk with another woman. You are left with Valdis and Beth. They seem to somewhat know each other and they are chatting about the new DADA professor.

You see your dad talking with that blonde man at the corner of the room. They are looking at some papers and discussing something. Another guess arrives and your dad also welcomes him. Newcomer is a tall black wizard with a golden earring. Three men talk for a bit and the blonde man walks away to talk with some other people leaving your dad alone with the black man.

Your uncle and your cousin have already seated at the table and they seem to be waiting for the dinner to be served. You also see Mundungus Fletcher talking with Valdis' father and then showing him something. Valdis' father doesn't seem very interested though so Mundungus walks away.

You head to the table and sit next to your cousin and your uncle. They are talking about the career options of your cousin since next year would be his last year at Hogwarts. You never get to spend much time with your cousin. Sure you like him, but it's not like you two are close friends or anything. Your mom always claims that your uncle is a boring man. Sometimes even your dad agrees with her.

"...therefore I think a position in the Department of International Cooperation would be perfect for you." Your uncle tells your cousin. "John, what are your plans for future?" He also asks you.

You tell your uncle that you would probably like to be a potioneer. He listens carefully and tells you that, that is a good profession. Your uncle has a mind for numbers that usually judges everything's value by the monetary gains it brings. "The business was much more active in the past but... I think it is still not bad,"

You nod and listen to his stories about certain times he went to shop for potions.

"Why did you drop the Quidditch team, John? It was fun coming to watch you," your cousin asks you.

>"I didn't drop it, the captain fired me."
>"I didn't drop it, the captain fired me because I let them down last year and went home before the last match,"

"I didn't drop it, the captain fired me." You say. Alfred is surprised. Your uncle also. "But you were so good!" Alfred says. "Well he is his mother's son, of course he is good," your uncle says. "You should have watched your mom, John! She was the best I've ever seen. Their team was absolutely stunning. Joan and Andromeda, they were stunning Beaters, captain Craggy was also one of the best players ever. Slytherin was really good during my time."

After a bit more chatting, everyone starts to take their seats. You see the blonde man approaching your mom in a very friendly manner and they talk for a while. "It's been a long time, Joan," the blonde man says and takes your mom's hand to kiss. "Yes it has, Lucius," your mom replies. "I failed to see Luisa...isn't she here?" Lucius asks. Your mom goes on to tell him that Luisa was too busy to attend. They talk for a short while and then Lucius takes his seat at the table. The black man sits across him and your parents sit at the head of the table.

Valdis also sits next to you at the dinner and you spend most of the dinner chatting with him.

You and Valdis mostly talk about astronomy and the next Rowenna's Eagles meeting. At some point you tell him that you had great success with the flasks he gifted you and you thank him. He tells you that he is glad at least someone is using them. "They belong to someone who has a gift for potions rather than dusting in a box at my home,"

Lucius leaves early after dinner as well as the Fawleys. You spend most of the time chatting with Valdis while guests leave one by one as time passes. One of the last ones to leave are your uncle and cousin. They walk out alongside Mundungus Fletcher who tries to sell him some stuff. "I am telling you, you should see some of this collection. I am sure you will find something you like. Just visit my place at the Knockturn Alley. Some ancient bookholders maybe? Invisibility cloaks? Maybe something more interesting? I swear to you I can show you a relic from Merlin himself! Maybe something darker? An enchanted and powerful ring? Perhaps some..." Your uncle courteously tells him no as they are leaving the house. Mundungus also leaves after them.

After all the guests leave your parents give you their Christmas gift for you. It's a book on potion ingredients and where to find them in Britain. It's a very thick and serious tome. You are very, very happy to receive this gift. Maybe you can go gathering some rare ingredients across the country one day.

You put your head on the pillow and many thoughts cross your mind. It has definetely been a busy Christmas. Before you can think anything you drift away to sleep.

Soon the break will be over and you will return to Hogwarts. You spend your time before leaving home with one of these,

>Study a class [Which one?]
>Practice Quidditch with mom
>Brew a potion [Which one?]
>Practice a spell [Which one?]

You try to transfigure the button into a beetle for countless times. At the beginning nothing even happens. But slowly with more and more practice you at least start to get some changes. Some antennas at first...then a leg or two here and there. Your last tries almost resembles a full beetle but you still fail to achieve a completely successful transfiguration. Still at least now you know more than you did before.

Finally it is time to say goodbye to your parents once again. You hug your mom and dad and they wish you a very successful next semester. Leaving the comfort of your own home and the loving embrace of your family is always hard but you feel like Hogwarts is also your home now. You feel like you belong there, together with your friends.

Your mind full of dark thoughts of goblins, rings, dark wizards, dark secrets and of things to research and things to go and check out, you return to Hogwarts to start the second semester.

>Thank you all for joining us for the thread for this five days period and thank you for joining after so much time and not letting the quest die. Potions are powerful, but they take time, preparation, and resources that aren't always available. We need to up our spell casting game because Fourth year is when they takes the brakes of this magic train and shit just goes bananas.

Also just realized that today, 25/09, is the two years anniversary of the quest. Here is the link to the first ever thread created two years ago today:

I have a couple questions for you Gringott.

A) How fucked are we?
B) Can we solve it by lighting everything on fire?

A) Not so much at this point.
B) You can solve almost everything by reading and paying attention to the bread crumbs. I never write anything without reason. (Also probably by rolling some good dice)
