"Well the girl who was here just got away, but the boy - Ulrich who was with her is still here." You monotone whilst looking through the lens of the security camera.

"Ah man that sucks. I was hoping you'd handle this for me... Because I really don't know what I'm going to say." Odd begins scratching his hair, probably resisiting the urge to fidget with his headpiece.

"They were being pursued by this man. I assume he is some kind of coach or teacher at Kadic Academy." With a flick of your wrist you flash a picture of the large man's face. "He's now carrying Ulrich from the factory. He caught himself on some rusted scrap on the floor and his thigh will require stitching."

"Jeez that's rough." Odd clicks his tongue and slouches in the chair, "So all in all danger has passed?"

"Affirmative. But you should probably confer with Jeremy about a strategy to prevent a repeat incursion." There is an odd pause as neither of you really knows what to say.

"So Xan - I cut for the day and the scanners are downstairs. Wanna hangout?" He asks to join you in a cyber prison deathworld with the same casualness he'd ask you if you wanted to get a snack from the vending machine on the way home... Honestly, it's kind of endearing.

Hey guys, sorry I fell asleep last time. I was and am still a bit out of sorts with my work schedule being so hectic. Hopefully we get to where I want to be before I leave for holiday day after tomorrow.

Also yes I am Scottish which is why threads are usually early evening GMT. Have a wagon.

Yeah i can get behind this. Though if we ARE gonna be working with odd for any length of time, we may need to allow him in, so he can get some practice moving about lyoko. Especially since he is the one who will rely on mobility the most.

"Look Odd. I appreciate the offer but no. You can't just risk your life because I'm bored." A gentle smile finds itself on your lips as you construct a light hearted comment tailored to Odd, "Plus I wouldn't want you to leave that comfy chair for my sake."

He laughs and begins fidgeting with the mouse, which causes your eyes to go all over when trying to track the blur. "Woah sorry I didn't think that'd annoy you so much. You're like a cat with a laser pointer."

"I didn't even know my eyes could move or percieve that fast." Is all you respond with, prompting the teen to snicker.

"Huh, wonder if your body can do more impossible stuff."

The implications of his light hearted jest cause you to shiver. "Let's not find out."

"You know what your place needs Xan?"

Immediately you rattle off a list of things needed for human comfort, "A bed, central heating, food or water for human consumption, a seating area with comfort and some means of entertainment and hygeine?"

He pauses, "I mean, yeah those would be nice. But this place could really use bean bags. You already have this, industrial grime aesthetic thing going on right?"

You nod, his statement is logical. This was an industrial factory after all.

"So bringing in some fancy couches or dining room furniture would ruin it. Get a retro style TV and some bean bags. Would make this place sweet."

"I do not see why repurposing this building would make sense. This is temporary until one of you decides to-"

"Yeah, we get it. Accept that we're not killing you, would you?" You think that by his body language he rolled his eyes... but this is merely conjecture. "This whole self sacrificing hero routine doesn't suit you."

"It is not a routine it is merely the most logical-"

"You're not in star trek. Just say it's what you think is right." He crosses his arms. As if you should already know the nuances of what human culture and communication mean.

To confirm your understanding you simply say, "Affirmative."

"Good. Now to the important question; dogs or cats?"

"I have encountered neither. Unless your Lyoko form counts." This joke seems not to land, which is strange because your last joke was calculated with the same humour algorithim...

"Well we'll fix that next time." Odd vows strangely resolute.

Seeing that this is the end of this topic, "Odd. I wish to gather more information."

"Sure thing! You need me to open wikipedia or something?" The frustration you feel much have shown on your avatar, "I guess that was a dumb question..."

"I was wondering about school life. Despite having acess to Jeremy's computer and phone - your phone and the supercomputer. Kadic academy is a mystery to me." For some reason he looks embaressed about this.

"Well... you and me both." The confession manages to make you smirk. Huh, apparently you have a sense of amusement also. "Well Kadic Academy is for all intents an purposes normal; except for it's exchange program." e shrugs, "The science department is mediocre, the arts okay and the sports are pretty much the only thing better than a normal school."

"The Academy suffix implies expensive tuition fees." You retort.

"I think it's pretty cheap. Ma couldn't find me anywhere affordable nearby..." He looks sad, "We don't do so well. But Kadic was in our budget."

"Well Odd. I know I'm just a piece of software. But it sounds like she did the best the best for you and wants you to succeed." With a slight smile you try to comfort him, "I know it's not a hug. But it's the best I can do."

"I appreciate it Xan. After all there's not many people here I really know, y'know? It's a lot different than Florence. Which is nice in some ways." Odd continues to ramble on, which you let him do - it seems he's needed to vent, "I mean I don't have to worry about who comes from old money. I don't have to worry about not being enroute to be picked up by an arthouse or hired on retainer by one of the old money families."

It seems time to interject, "Odd, not to be rude - but what are you referring to here?"

"Oh. I'm a sculptor. But because we're not one of the families who are descended from the mob or some kinda post war industrialist - no art academy will touch me." He grins, "Unless you kiss up to those families enough, but to do that you have to act like a goon or henchman..."

"Which isn't your style." You conclude.

"Exactly. But I still have Kiwi." He puts his feet up on the chair almost into the faetal postion. "When I'm homesick, he just curls up in my lap or starts ramming his snout in my face y'know like-"

Something in your amused face must have made Odd realise how long he's been speaking. "Oh, I'm being stupid. I came to hang out and talk about your thing and I'm just going on about my life. I'm the worst."

"Honestly I do not mind Odd. If Kiwi ever needs somewhere out of the way, my doors are always open to him." With a smirk you make the elevator doors open.

Odd looks away from the screen and one of the cameras show his eyes water slightly before he rubs at it with a long sleeve. The boy turns to you again, "But for real, what's wrong. You said something weird was appening and Jeremy noticed you're off. If he noticed, it must be something bad."

"Well earlier today I was sent a series of messages by someone. This person demanded to know why I was opposing the AI. Before it then asked who or what I was. When I got Jeremy to check the logs they were gone, according to logic I must have been seeing things.."

"So it sounds like this person is either real good with computers or really well informed." Odd says, looking off to the side.

"Then later on, I started to hear things... You take a deep breath, "Things that nudged me towards rash actions. But furhter than that my voice seemed to change and warp while talking to Jeremy..."

"Maybe you have a virus or something? Or a glitch? Do AIs get glitchy?" He puts a hand on his chin, "Can't you or Jeremy figure that out?"

"My self diagnostic returned nothing and I doubt Jeremy could find something different, because he doesn't have acess to my full code or what it was before I was made self sentient." Closiung your eyes you ride out the train to station, "I have one answer however."

"Go ahead."

"If my self diagnostic fails to pick up problems, perhaps there is no problem. Perhaps my auditory and visual hallucinations are simply because I'm crazy."

Odd is protesting but despite his mouth moving you don't hear anything. The tower you're standing in makes a noise like a metal xylophone getting struck by a van as you feel your virtual body shiver in tune to a farr off pulse.

A tower just got activated.

"XAN? XANA?! Buddy can you hear me?!" Odd has grabbed the monitor and is shaking ""you"" like a woman in a thriller. Before you respond you ponder where that image even came from.

"Odd get to the scanners; the AI is on the move." You demand, already pulling your sceen up by the time Odd has taken his first step. "Alright, so it's just us... I think I can virtualize you."

"Think?" Odd echoes from inside the elevator as he repeatedly hammers the down arrow.

"I can do this." You correct.

"Much better buddy," Odd shoots a camera a thumbs up as he walks into his scanner, "I trust you."

How little he knows... Appears in red in the midst of the code... forcing you to erase it and re-input some of the lines that govern location of appearance.

You pause, this is in a totally different area of Lyoko. The world doesn't go that far in fact the forrest only stretches for 68000 metres across.

"Odd. The area we're going is completely different to the previous one. Be prepared for anything." You say with apprehension.

"New place, best behaviour. Got it." He's begun tapping his foot on the scanner floor, each vibration rattling through your virtual skull.

Yes.Best Behaviour. Right, X.A.N.A?

For a moment your vision blurs and you see nothing but the threads of the system as you run the program Jeremy created. In that moment of nigh omniscience you come to some realizaitons as you are connected to everyone and everything in Lyoko.

There is more to Lyoko than you realise.

The Artificial Intelligence has multiple towers active at any given time.

The gas released was not gas. Somehow the digital sea leaked into the real world.

It got someone.

But then that moment of super awareness is gone as you find yourself face down, sunken slightly into the ground as odd virtualizes and lands a half foot to your right with a soft crunch. "Lying down on the job Xana? That's not like you buddy..."

You roll over and find yourself looking up at a grey overcast sky. A soft undisturbed blanket of pure white snow coats the ground around you in every direction, broken only by the blue solid sea of sheet ice. In the distance stands a tower, glowing red with ominous malevolance. "The thing is..."

I'm taking that typo as a sign I need to sleep.

I mean, I'm sure we'll get around to informing him of all 4 options sooner or later, they all seem like pretty vital information to be withholding. Seems like more a choice of what stands out most to us at first and the related emotional response..

"There was a brief second upon virtualizing you and teleporting me in which I was... Overclocked I guess. For a fraction of a second I was able to percieve layers of Lyoko I did not fathom existed, understand ata I could not even begin to process..." You sit up on the fake snow with a scowl, "I learned some disturbing facts. The AI did not create or release a mysterious gas compound - instead it somehow leaked the digital sea into the real world... killing someone."

"Wait you mean..."

"Affirmative. Furthermore, for some reason I have been unable to percieve some of the towers which have been activated by the AI which means that the AI is much more competant than we expected which is a foolish thing for me to assume as naturally a being with no emotions will be inherently logical and thus would seek to obfuscate it's true moves which it has done by somehow shielding the activation of multiple towers from my perception this stealth approach also implies that it is aware that you will not turn off the supercomputer due to human attachment and fear of murderous actions which in turn implies the AI will begin targetting you in an effort of self preservati-" ODd strikes you in the back of the head like you're an old television set, effectively stopping your rant in it's tracks.

"Xana. I know you're some kind of computer person. But you stopped using words and started making static-y noises." He frowns too, "In short, we're getting our ass kicked and we don't know what the AI's doing?"

"Affirmative." Your confirmation does not brighten the joker's mood.

"Well we'll discuss that with Jeremy after we deal with this." The Catboy's ears twitch as he helps you up. His eyes are locked on the tower rising over the artificial horizon and you can see multiple square shapes closing in at a slow pace.

"Here we go Odd. Straight through." You say as you summon your staff mid sprint with your friend barely a step behind. Despite the great distance you can already hear the metallic screeching of the AI's monster's legs. Odd lines up his arm ready to shoot as the distance between you and the multitude of Bloks closes and closes.

In a fit of nerves you spin your staff and notice something, cracks on the ground beneath you as the artificial ice is getting ready to cave and split from the pressure. The digital sea beneath waiting to claim your duo or the half dozen bloks charging forth to mee you.

"Odd run left, I'm going right! Watch the ice!" There's no time to check if your partner listened to your advice, instead you bolt and deflect two lazers as they come in to try and clip you.

The only knowledge you have of Odd is the sound of on eof the monsters perishing from his arrows. If he's smart he'll have ran a total opposite route, pincering the monsters between you.

You keep moving, your only action except dodging is splitting your staff in two as you draw the fire of the three blocks on your side. The fizzing lasers sink into the didgital ice and send cracks of their own spreading as the false plasma's heat cleaves through the ice as easily as rice paper.

They continue to pursue for what seems like minutes, and every time you check over your shoulder you feel the heat of bypassing lasers as you leap into the air to avoid an attempt at freezing you to the spot. From the air, their fire redirects and you toss your left staff segment... It heads towards the ground between all the Bloks; and your only able to hope that your shot hits the ice hard enough to send them into the digital sea lurking below.

With a guttural roar you spin in the air and launch the staff segment, the white steel glowing red as it sails in a straight line to it's destination.

For some reason you know that they are doomed as soon as the colour changes. The Bloks simply continue firing away as their impending doom screeches towards them swiftly enough to trail wind on it's hasty descent to the ground.

How it trails wind on a windless and airless computer simulation is not a pressing concern as half of your staff hits the ice and explodes; simply removing a part of Lyoko and sending the sole Blok who was not atomized by your attack to sink into the digital sea as slowly and hoplessly as the Titanic.

As you sail down you look across to see Odd riding a Blok like a surfboard and dispatching another foe with ease. As it falls he simply shoots beneath him twice, embedding two of his arrow like bullets in the AI logo and ending the threat for now.

Eventually you touch down and Odd waves to you after a second of looking around. He begins running around the lake towards the tower almost exactly when you resummon the second half of your staff and slam the poles together.

As you run to regroup you type with one hand, focusing on getting Jeremy out despite having a multitude of questions. "If you can somehow jump out the window without getting hurt. A tunnel across the running track leads you to The Factory. It'll be safe here."

Since the coast is clear you manage to cast your gaze to your external security cameras in the factory, risking closing your eyes in this environment.

From what you can piece together it looks like some kind of riot is spilling out of the school, as your audio sensors can only hear a strange screeching whenever they are pointed towards Kadic Academy. Across the bridge though you make out a figure approaching in a hurry, blood on his knuckles as he runs.

"Hey Xana. I know you're probably doing something important... but there's a lot of guys between us and this tower." Odd says with concern, "I count four of the bloks and about three of the little guys."

"Affirmative. We also have no cover, so unless I perfectly deflect every single lazer in front of you - we're defenceless before that firing squad of monsters."

"Maybe I could throw you again?" He muses.

Your head almost sakes on it's own. "That's why the Kranklerats are behind the Bloks. So that if I get over them there's still a last line of defence."

Odd's face lights up, "This is an ice bridge, right? And it's got arches - so why don't I climb under it and attack! Thse claws have to be useful for something."

"You'd be climbing over the digital sea. One mistake and you add to whatever body count is rising at Kadic."

"It's really that bad?"

You glumly nod your head and consider the problem... time is ticking down and you don't know the full situation to even reach a judgement. This tower is producing some sonic noise. There is a riot at Kadic, seemingly because of said noise. Jeremy sent some reinforcements your way. You have no idea who or what that means. Jeremy is locked in his room with that large coach; who would kill him with his bare hands should one of them be affected by the sonic noise.

It's all down to you and Odd. Up against some kind of firing squad of tiny bug monsters and giant cubazoid creatures. As you chew your virtual thumb, Odd simply looks to you with hope and faith.

>>
>>1881044
Possibly use our staffs and whatever we have on our feet to simply attempt to ski really fast past them? Or dodge lasers that way?
Is there seriously no cover we can use to have Odd just snipe the fuck out of them from range?
>>

Damn I think in the show no one died at all
We suck at this
>>
>>1881251

Lots of different circumstances between show and quest.

Consider the following;

They had time skip ex machina.
X.A.N.A Literally only did super obvious and easily thwartable attacks.
We do not have a full roster yet, only Odd.
Our AI has thus far deployed forces semi intellignetly.
The show didn't show you body count like I am. Each of the main cast dies at least once before or immediately after a return to the past is lost.

Anons haven't fucked up too bad. Yet.
>>
>>1881044
Collapse the bridge and jump across using the floating remains?
>>
>>1881279
I sai attract the first wave toward the bridge and let odd destroy it then we use our staff to jump over the collapsed bridge.
>>
>>1881270
It seems that the argument to turn off the computer only gets stronger the higher the number goes. Honestly don't see much reason not to once there's that many dying so quick
>Each of the main cast dies at least once before or immediately after a return to the past is lost.
Also none of the characters died in the show. They come close but none actually die.
>>
So are we not able to go back in time like the show
