It's time for you daring denizens to defend the Digiverse from danger and disaster.

Meet Lexi and Wyatt Chatwin. While out on a routine chore from their mother, some endearing, cheeky, anime-like hi-jinks ensue that you kids love so much. I don't know, just read the damn thing.

IT BEGINS.

This week marks the beginning of our first full quest, DIGIMANZ: Digital Wonderland. Yaki and I worked out a bit of a different method of handling the illustrations and posts for things, which should make for fewer, longer posts instead of a drawn out thread of 20 short posts. Hopefully it'll make things flow better.

Also starting with this thread, I'm introducing a new feature that was suggested at the end of the last test thread: From now on, between Friday and Saturday, you can address the characters of the story and ask them any question you want in an effort to help make a more informed decision. Questions will be answered by the characters Saturday night, leaving until the end of Sunday to still get your votes in. Of course, you can still vote at any time during that period if you have nothing to ask.

I've talked with some people, and apparently YT isn't as bad as I've been previously lead to believe, at least not in the case of videos being removed, so we'll see how it goes for hosting recaps. I'm still open to alternatives as backup.

Meet Lexi and Wyatt: fairly average siblings, aside from being twins. Everyone wonders why they don't look and act more alike as twins should, and it's probably because those people don't know what fraternal twins are, until it gets shouted in unison by angry twins.

Lexi Chatwin

Age: 12

Likes: Schedules, schedules coming together, and most cute things.

Dislikes: Surprises, being alone, and people who won't roll that one @%#& pantleg down.

Skills: Once planned AND booked her entire family's summer vacation at the age of 7.

The "oldest" sibling, though not by any significant amount, depending on who you ask, carries the responsibility of being the responsible one. Lexi prides herself on being able to think ahead and organize, but still is prone to moments of impulse in her own way - like that catalogued Lisa Frank collection she keeps hidden from EVERYONE.

Wyatt Chatwin

Age: 12

Likes: Sports, video games, and being a rough-and-tumble dope.

Dislikes: Housework, homework, and most things that involve the word "work."

Skills: So adept at flying by the seat of his pants that he may just get airborne someday.

The "coolest" sibling, though not by ANY amount, depending on who you ask, enjoys lacking grades and having logged hundreds of hours staring out classroom windows. Ambitious in spirit but lacking in motivation, Wyatt settles for getting by when he could be getting more. It's just such a pain when nothing really seems worth the effort.

Today's mission: get some groceries and come straight home. Seems simple enough, but you know kids these days... If they're not fidget spinning something, they're probably getting into hard drugs. That's what my church told me, anyway.

The chore was simple enough, especially with Lexi in charge. The two left with plenty of time for getting to the store, getting all the items on the list, and getting back home, with extra time to stop by another store should the FIRST store have anything out of stock. Coupons were alphabetized with their expiration dates highlighted to reduce "arguing with management" delays.

"Augh, suddenly overcome with boredom..." Wyatt blurts out, breaking the otherwise peaceful silence. "Can't we do SOMETHING to make this more fun? Find a new shortcut or something?"

Lexi, used to these sorts of complains, fails to sympathize. "I'm not getting caught in a back alley somewhere just so you can be entertained. Mom wants us home by 6:00, and we're going to be home by 6:00."

"Caught... What in this town could be SO dangerous?"

"I'm more worried about the danger you pose to yourself, or don't you remember the last shortcut? And the dumpster?

"THAT dumpster was faulty, and I am NOT responsible."

"You can say that again..."

"Now listen, I--"

"...Take your time."

"Shh. Do you hear that?"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ls1gnCHr14Q

Focusing, Lexi could indeed hear something. Music coming from somewhere in the distance. Not just any music, like you'd hear in a store while shopping for groceries, which was still very much the primary task here, but something else... No. Groceries are the mission. No getting distracted.

"Okay, so I hear music. What's the big deal?"

Wyatt gave no snotty retort, which was some cause for alarm. Turning back, Lexi sees that she is sans brother. "I can't believe-- Wyatt!"

"This way!" The voice is coming from the most immediate alleyway, and already sounds to be a considerable distance.

Lexi hesitates for a moment, clenching her small collection of lists and clippings. She could just go do the shopping herself, but... "Stupid brothers... WYATT! YOU BETTER HOPE THESE COUPONS SCAN THE FIRST TIME!"

And with that, she chases after her brother's voice.

Following the trail of splashed puddles, overturned boxes, and one dumpster with a caved-in lid, Lexi finally catches sight of her brother running into the train station. "Wyaaatt! Slow down!"

"Hurry up!" came a far response.

Grumbling, she does her best to comply, dashing up the stairs and through the lobby toward the sound of footfall, ending at a row of turnstiles. There was no WAY he bought a ticket that fast, let alone remembered to bring money with him, but she could clearly hear him gaining distance to the platform. Halfway through taking a shouting breath, she noticed a small sign atop the gateway: FREE TODAY!

With a sigh, she makes her way through, after her brother and the curious music.

Lexi huffs her way down the stairs and onto the platform. There, she noticed two things: the target of her frustration holding some paper, and that the music had stopped.

"Took you long enough," Wyatt quips. "Check this out, though!" He waves a flyer freshly pulled from a bulletin board.

"WHY did you pull it down when it was readable up on the wall?"

Wyatt hesitates for a moment, his impulsive action dawning on him. "Well... so what? The whole board is covered in them!"

And indeed it was - someone had gone to the effort of plastering these flyers over-top of every other notice, flyer, and weird ad with those tear-off phone number strips. Seriously, who takes those?

"Just... read it to me."

Wyatt clears his throat dramatically. "Come one, come all to the greatest show you'll ever see! Presented to you, with loving care from the DiGiti Family, the heart-racing, high-flying--"

"SUMMARIZE."

"It's a circus! There's some kinda huge circus nearby, and they're providing free trips to it!"

"Well that explains the sign at the turnstile, but how come I haven't heard of this until now? Nothing on TV, the radio, the paper, or anything!"

"Probably had to be on a mailing list or something. Everything is computers now. Duh."

"Yeah, and every computer is a 'Beckoning to Service' system, as far as you're concerned."

"I can't help that these machines have a higher calling than coupon printing sites."

"Hey, yeah, how come there weren't any coupons for the--"

A sharp whistle behind the two interrupts the argument as a small, rustic-looking train pulls up on the tracks. As the doors open, the familiar music spills out.

"That... is spooky,” is all Lexi can manage to get out.

"We GOTTA see this," Wyatt spouts, the excitement in his voice being palpable.

Folding her arms defiantly, "There is no way I'm getting on that train."

"Okay, I'll tell you how it was!" Wyatt is already on board, standing in the doorway.

"Wyatt!" Lexi wears an expression of frustration and contempt with a touch of malice.

"It's gonna be the best show I've ever seen~," he taunts in a sing-song manner.

Lexi bristles. "Wyatt get off that train right NOW!"

The whistle signals departure.

"Leaving without you~!"

Lexi stiffens, grimaces, and slowly makes her way toward the door. "Wyatt com ON! Get out of there! Mom is gonna be mad if we're late, and I'm telling her that it's all YOUR fault, AND that you broke another dumpster!"

"Oh fine," Wyatt snaps, stepping toward the door. "...not like I got money for tickets anyway."

That's when the doors snapped shut between the two of them.

There's a look of surprise on the faces of both children as the train starts to move.

"Wyatt! Open the door!"

Wyatt attempts to pry the door open, but, it's no good. They're shut tight.

The whistle blows again, and with that, the train lurches, slowly starting down the track.

"Hold on!" Wyatt's shouts are muffled through the glass and noise. "I'll break a window!"

Lexi paces after the train as it begins to gain speed. "And pay for it with what money, idiot?!"

"Okay fine. If you're so smart, YOU think of something!"

(HOW is this... THING my BROTHER? Once again, I have to fix one of his messes before it gets us both in trouble. The joys of being the "responsible one." Okay, Lexi you can do this...)

A: No way is he getting away again. I have to get on that train!
B: I could take the next train! The next... creepy train...
C: Maybe I could, um... follow the tracks?

Lexi's caught between a rock-head and hard choice with this one - The train is speeding up, and she's running out of platform. Better think quick!

Feel free to ask the kids anything you want to help you make your decision. Answers will be posted Saturday night, and voting closes Sunday night.

I'd like to know the terrain ahead, if it's clear to where the destination is or if its obscured.

I suggest that Lexi's partner be something that evolves into a beefcake.

Well the terrain is is clear enough along the tracks, so walking it wouldn't be so hard. I don't know what the destination is, though - if the train got out of sight, I'd have to come up with some way of tracking it down.

Fuck it, this would probably get someone killed if they tried it but I vote jump on train with Lexi's little girl legs.
