You are Kazimir Baradlian. Colonel in the Cortian army, and member of the Cult of Ra. Decorated warrior of many battles.

You are currently sneaking in the underbrush, with the most rag-rag bunch you have seen, to mount an attack towards your people. The tall grass hides the forty men in different uniforms, oily shirts, torn pants, and lack of hygene. Some are armed with proper rifles, others just have bayonets, or kitchen knives.

In the last few days you assisted in the capture of a local town, have witnessed the murder of your friend who happened to live in said town happily with his family, by the hands your recently promoted superior and rival, Commodore Ferlain.
You have immediately beat and stabbed him to death.

As dusk is slowly creeping across the horizon, the outlines of the first enemy encampment can be seen. From yours it is a hundred or so yards. They seem to have three canons with skeleton crew of four, and three horsemen. Awfully understaffed to do anything than operating the cannons. Akov must be pretty sure of his business. He has all the right to do so. The army that is surely advancing into the city has no idea of the hail of fire that will fall on them, nor the previously placed charges that will burst in a chain-reaction.

You have: 14 people with guns, 19 people with knives and bayonets
>A. Go ahead alone and try to kill quietly
>B. Bring the ones with the guns only, and try to kill them all in a single volley
>C. Bring only the people with the melee weapons and try to kill covertly

You slowly make an advance, splitting up the troops. The ones with the rifle go around the edge of the forest. Not too deep, as you are not entirely certain how close the additional troops are. You made certain that you don't send the entire town ex-milita squad you have freed into the rifle crew. Just to make sure none of them gets a twitchy finger while their comrades are fighting beside you.
The rest crawl forward in the tall grass.

With his dying breath, Simon your old comrade made you promise to look after his daughter, the only surviving member of the family. With your immediate incarceration, you have entrusted your current adjutant to look after her.

Following that you have spent the next week in the prison of the freshly occupied town. Offically for the murder of your superior. Unoffically for opposing High-Commander Akov's policies and decisions along with your departed mentor. He never liked you for following your mentor’s direction on the cult’s teaching over his, and he murder of his protégé did improve this at all.

Finally, you are close enough. Standing up, and giving a whistle for the volley.

You get up, when one of the cannons in the distance fires, and you level the gun at one of the calvarymen, putting a bullet trough his head. Lucky for you, the Rifle group did their job, and fired a volley. Horses scream and stand on their hindlegs, kicking about, and the surprised guncrew is befelled by angry citizens with sharp appendages.
One of the calvarymen tries to flee, but you grab straps of it's saddle, and pull the horse sideways. Spraining his arm behind his back, you put him to the sword and throw the body down.

One day you have awoke to cannon fire. Escaping with pure luck, you have managed to escape. The streets were empty. Due to climbing to an elevated position, and your tactical knowledge, you have quickly realized the situation. The Tirian army started to mount a counter-attack. However Commander Akov have evacuated the city of his units, and made preparation to bombard and torch the city once the enemy have advanced deep enough into it, destroying soldier and civillian alike.

Within four minutes the camp is silent. Hopefully the sounds of the nearing Tirian army, as they are "pushing back" the Cortian invaders have hidden your fast skirmish and the rifleshots from the other groups. At least you hope so. Either way, you don't have long. There should be at least three more camps left, and no more than half an hour till the Cortians begin to bomb the town.

>A. Move to the second camp, this would leave time for only the the third at best
>B. Try to split up to second and third, halving manpower, but maybe get time for the fourth
>D. Write-in

This is the soft reboot of an earlier quest. Probably not remembered by anyone, and archived pretty badly. I am doing the recap while making actions to continue (sort of) where we left off. Sorry if this lack of details makes you think you did the wrong decision. I just didn't want to write too much for he players to read before they actually get to play.
As for countermanding, you have been in prison for a week at least, and the murder of the army's commander by the "second in command" had time to run trough. Also your higherup who hates your guts arrived to take over as well. You could try your luck and bluff to countermand orthers, it might work, but there is equal chance it might not.

Arm up everyone we can with rifles from the slain artillery crew to bolster our firepower. Also ask if anyone in our group has artillery experience: can they redirect the cannons towards the other artillery camps?
>>
>>1866035
And split up if we can't repurpose the cannons.
>>
>>1866035
The artillery crew has no weaponry, but the calvarymen had pistols.
You yourself are an elite, top noch, and have artillery experience.
And damn right you can redirect the cannons.
>>
>>1866060
>And damn right you can redirect the cannons.
So do we know where the other camps are located? Can these men load and fire the cannons if we aim them? We won't be able to get all remaining three camps before they zero in on us, but we might be able to wipe out one in a surprise bombardment.

You are measuring the distance, and checking the wind. With the documents pilfered from the Mayor's house that the invading Cortians have repurposed as their local hq, you can tell the locations of the camps. Luckily the cannons are already loaded, they only require four people to light the fuse. Almost idiotproof till the reloading.

However, the four cannons you have cannot destroy the remaining thee encampments completely. One is likely, two is risky, three are impossible. Not to mention, that you would have to stray behind to oversee reloading, as apparently no one else operated a cannon before.

>A. Split into two for two camps, and leave men behind to fire the cannon on the fourth later

Better to take out a camp then to leave to half ones that can regoup
Since i d I nt thin we would have time to re fire

>>1866148
You go cannon to cannon, and make sure they are in all the right angles. Get a quick look at the fuses, and ammunition. Once everything is satisfactory, you take a watch from one of the artillery personnel, and motion to two of the men in Tirian uniforms.
“You two are staying behind.” you say, throwing the pocket watch to one of them. “When the clock hits twenty-five, light the fuses, and don’t move the barrels even an inch.”

They are visible uncomfortable with taking orders from you, but you give no doubt about the necessity of the task.
“If you’d prefer me leaving some of the actual criminals behind, I could be persuaded, but don’t blame anyone when they run away, and leave your home and comrades to burn.”
That seems to do the trick, and before you leave you turn back once more for good measure
“And if you think that firing sooner will get me in trouble and out of your neck, think again. If they suspect something is wrong, they are perfectly capable taking out half, or the entire city with their remaining cannons, once reinforcements arrive.”

You split the groups into two. One will be led by you, and the other will be led by the captured Tirian town militia. You are hope they will be strongly disposed against just leaving the battlefield. At least stronger than the criminals who been in the cells even before Ferlain’s forces came. Not to mention they can shoot straight.
Now it’s only the matter of weapon division

C
Do the same tactic of the Melee sneaking in close to the camp from behind, then charging once the rifles fire a volley.
>>
>>1866173
You will try the same tactic as before, but with less men. This way you can attack two camps simultaneously. In theory at least. If nothing else, then at least you can rile them up enough to keep them blowing up the charges, hidden across the settlement.

The Tirian militia looks determined to succeed. Before parting ways, the sergeant almost seem to say something, but after openin his mouth he turns away. You can understand his confusion. You had a hand in taking the city not long ago, and now you are fighting against the same troops. It cannot be easy for an outsider to understand why you do this. Or maybe it can. Maybe it's just revenge and you don't care much about the lives of the civillians?

You shake your head. "It doesn't matter now" you murmur "all is left is the fight at hand."

>roll 4d100 best out of three. Any rousing speech or tactic you can add will be counted. Remember you got a horse if you wanna ride.

Could we dress up in one of the cavalrymen' uniforms?
We could have the squad set up in one direction, and we'll ride up from the direction of this camp, saying we have an urgent order from the High-Commander. When the officer in charge comes up to us, we give him a faceful of sword while the squad shoots the distracted crew and cavalrymen.

"Fuck the High-Commander, lets put his civilian-butchering head on a pike." you say. They don’t seem overly inspired, but screw them. You can make a pike yourself.

With a sudden inspiration, you take most of the grabs of the cavalryman. There is no time for full dressing, put plenty for a good disguise. With the horse, trick is full and you ride off.
Into the forest, you stop a bit, and explain the plan to the crew.
“I go ahead, and distract them. You try to get closer. When I signal, or when they notice you, charge. Try to get as close as possible.” Your training kicks in “Think of the innocent babes and women who will be butchered should you fall. Think of those who cannot fight for themselves and steel yourself. Fight hard, fight well."

You turn away, but before leaving give few more inspiring words.
“If any of you thinks of just turning tails while I try to distract them, remember; I know where you are. If you aren’t coming with a speed I deem sufficient, I’ll shout where you are, and I’m going to stop this encampment from firing, one way, or another.” and with that, you leave them.

The camp is exactly where they said it would be, but for some reason it has more guards and cannons on station.
They are vary when you approach, but recognize their colors, and don’t fire upon you.
“Ahoy, I have new orders in”
A middle aged man approaches, his rank is just 2nd Lieutenant, but most likely in charge.
“What are they?”
You can see your men coming in from the opposite side. Good.
“Why would they do that? The Commander have specified their forces will draw them in trough the northern blockade”
* Of course, the charges *
“We merely have to light them in a different order”
“What is the order”
“Quite simple” you say as he comes closer, and you disembark from the mount. “YOU FIRST”

You give him an uppercut, knocking the man out cold, as the convicts begin their charge.

With the addition of the following. Have we blown our cover to the whole camp yet? Is it possible to sneak to the other side still disguised as an officer and blow up their powder magazine/ammunition dump? Assassinate the commanding officers?

You make a 180 degree turn, and jump towards one of the infantrymen who's aiming at the charging crowd. The saber lands on the rifle's barrel, pushing it towards the ground and spoiling the aim. With the same buyoancy you plant a knee into his side, and with a followup elbow him in the back of his head.

A few shots still find their mark tough. Three do not make it, and one is caught in the shoulder. The weak resistance the Cortian camp managed to muster can't stop the rushing maniacs, and the occasional gunfire. As you are taking down another calvarymen from his saddle, it occurs to you that they are not firing in a volley.
"Well I can be thankful, half of them probably never fired a gu.."

Your process of thought is interrupted when a bullet lands into the horse beside you.
Craning your neck around you see two of the convicts among the fighting group, with guns pointed at you. You don't have much time as you duck behind one of the cannons, and another bullet hits your previous location.

"Two, three. four.." you count the bullets and in the right moment you roll out, squeezing the trigger twice. Your forearms take the recoil softly, and the bullets fly towards their intended targets without fail.
Two shots, two kills.

When get back on your feet, you catch sight of a sword slashing down overhead. You block it with your gun just in time. The sturdy officer piece parries the blade, leaving you the momentum to headbutt the owner.

One of the artillery crew tires to sneak up on your position in the chaos. However you realize he isn't coming for you. He is trying to fire a cannon prematurely! If the other two camp suspects something is wrong, there is no telling what they might do. They could just rethreat, send reinforcements, or even start the bombardment immediately. With a hurried, but nontheless precise shot, you disable him.

The fight takes eight minute in total. Nine minutes remained.

Kazimir grapples one of the crazed horses running around, and mounts it. Gazing into the direction of the camp, he speaks up. "Alright, we have some time left, let's converge on the third camp and see what the second squad has accomplished."

Looking back, many of the convicts are eyeing him. With freshly looted weapons, they stand at varying distances, all facing towards him.
"And why would we do that?" asks a burly man with tattoos all over both his forearms.
"Yeah, We have weapons, the border is that way, and no one to stop us." chimes in a shorter fellow with very few teeth.
They all seem to murmur among each other in agreement.

Kazimir gets the idea. He have been trained to see the first signs of mutiny for a long time, and this might get ugly.
"Aside from me, you mean?" the commander stated. His words are only met with uglier stare. Twelve men were staring him down, mostly armed.
"Sure, you can all try and gun me down, but I'll take the first... what, two? four? and that is only if most of you hit. If I can still stand it will be a lot uglier."
No answer. But no gunshots either.
"And the border is not that way for long. It will move in one direction, or another. It is war. On the Tirian side, you are all criminals. On the Cortian side, well you are enemy, and criminal scum. Have you ever heard how criminals are treated there? I can tell quite a bit about that."
"So what? We can still try and live instead of dying out there."
"You are pulling out an entire city from the deep shit. The streets that have condemned you, will stand on burn depending on you actions today. If that won't earn you a parole, nothing ever will"

The camp was already taken when the ragtag group arrives to it, albeit their losses were heavy, the second group held out. The commander orders to set up a triage, and starts to do fast first aid on all who are available. After all, if the Tirian army catches them, they will be his witness, not to mention his master always said to treat the enemy the same way you would wish to be treated as well.

He was trough the second man when the sounds of cannon fire have thundered. The appointed time must have come to destroy the 4th camp.

After handling some first aid, stopping some bleeding wounds and setting back a few bones to make sure no one dies or gets unnecessary crippled by the end of this, Kazimir ordered to have some lookouts, and establish a premiter. This way they would know to move if the Cortians would retreat this way, and see the Tirian forces beforehand.

He had the white flag tied, and the sergeant patched up. Firstly, they shouldn't shoot them on sight and secondly they might even listen to them. With everything prepared, he promptly slipped away, into the town below.

Sometimes a few faces are peeking out from between the window breeches, but they dare not to go to the streets yet. The sounds of gunshots have not subsided completely. The Cortian luring troops must be retreating at full speed now that the even they have been luring for didn't go off.

Now the question is, where to look for?
