/qst/ - Quests

Shroom Civ Gen II is here. Sadly A little bit of the data has been lost to the ages. However I will try to recall and revive the quest.

From what I am able to gather,
https://pastebin.com/MCnmbMnp

Is the most recent data. Previously your people have won a small conflict with a stray force of humans. It was a slaughter. You managed to capture several of them and sold them to the moleman traders.

Your domain is small but you have an ally. A reptillian general. He is indebted to you and owns an island to the west.

As of now here is your research progress.

>Capstone Tunnels 3/9
A series of tunnles underneath the city. Used as bonus housing and or a place to retreat incase of invasion.

>Wrogi Training 2/3
A few small raptor like beasts have been captured and are being trained.

You also have many books gained from the recently departed molemen.

Most sorry if any information is missing or inaccurate.

A shroom can now walk through the tunnels beneath the town without having to fold their cap down. A little bit more and these tunnels will be a perfect evacuation point in case of a homefront war.

From what you have learned of farming this is... Not right. This book is near entirely about what you have come to understand as livestock breeding. But by god, these are some incredibly advanced theories and methods. Apparently if one follows the steps in this book any kind of livestock can become its tastiest in a matter of months and become numerous in only a few years.

Edward was the youngest knight in the kingdom. He was still pretty much a boy, but was so brave and intelligent that, without having to fight anyone at all, he had defeated all his enemies.
One day, while riding through the mountains, he came across a small cave. On entering it he found it was enormous, and that inside was an impressive castle, so big that he thought the mountain couldn't be real, and that it must have been a facade put there to hide the castle.

On nearing the castle, Edward heard the sound of voices. Without hesitating, he climbed over the castle walls, and followed the voices.

"Anybody here?" he asked.
"Help! Help us!" came the response from inside, "we've been locked in here for years, serving the castle dragon."
"Dragon?" thought Edward, just before an enormous flying flame almost burnt him alive. Edward spun silently around, and addressing the terrible dragon face to face, said: "It's all right, Dragon. I forgive you for what you just did. You probably didn't know it was me."

The dragon was very surprised at words like these. He never expected anyone to stand up to him, and certainly not in such a brazen manner.

"Prepare to fight, dwarf! I don't give a fig who you are!" roared the dragon.
"Wait a moment. Well, it's clear that you don't know who I am. I am the guardian of the Great Crystal Sword!" continued Edward, who - before fighting - was capable of making all sorts of things up. "You well know that the sword has killed dozens of ogres and dragons, and that if I unsheathe it, it will fly straight into your neck and kill you."

The dragon had never heard of such a sword, but this frightened him. He certainly didn't like the sound of something cutting his throat. Edward carried on talking.

"In any case, I want to give you a chance to fight me. Let's travel to the other side of the world. Over there there's a snow-covered mountain, and at the summit there's a great tower. At the top of the tower there's a golden cage where a wizard made this sword. There the sword loses all its power. I'll be there, but will only wait for you for five days."

On saying that, Edward raised a cloud of dust and disappeared. The dragon thought Edward had performed some kind of magic, but he had only hidden in some bushes. Wanting to fight with that impudent knight, the dragon quickly flew out of the cave, towards the other side of the world, in a journey which lasted more than a month.

When Edward was sure the dragon was far away, he came out of his hiding place, entered the castle, and set free all the prisoners inside. Some had been missing for many years, and when they returned home everyone praised Edward's great intelligence.

And what about the dragon? Well, can you believe that on the other side of the world there was really a snowy mountain with a big tower on top, and a gold cage on top of that?

1 1/2 /2
>>
Well yes, the dragon squeezed into the cage and couldn't get out; and there he remains, hoping that someone intelligent will one day come and rescue him...

Wait, we need to wait for summer for testing the hats to be effective. Maybe we should organize a hunt to make a sacrifice to the Sun?
>>
You and a small team of villagers, armed with the only shield hat take a little walk to the southern edge of your forest. Your scientists figured the test would yield more efficient results if you left the dampest part of the jungle. After a long awkward quiet a shroom hesitantly took the hat and ventured into the open sun and burning heat of late spring. A scientist observed and villagers stand by with pots of water to apply to the shroom upon return.

The scientist tasked with this mission insisted the subject stay out for as long as possible. After two hours, the spores of the subject became weak. After four hours, signs of wrinkles begin to show in the shrooms limbs. After six hours his cap begins to wilt. And after 8 he begins stumbling back to the shade of the trees.

It isn't until midday the next day, after being buried in nutrient rich soil that the shroom is seemingly back to 100%... The data is taken to the head scientist. His conclusion is as follows.
>7 Hours is the maximum time to be spent in the sun
>Become cautious of your state of health after 5 hours.
>If possible, return to shade within 3 hours of exposure to sun.

Further research is needed however the subject stated the hat did not feel as though it helped.

A VERY hard few days work and total obedience of your villagers has advanced the digging of the caves. The admiration of your villagers shows, and this is a testament to their love for you.

Your small scale investigative mission may have turned up 'some' data but you find it unreliable and wont risk marching your men through what could very possibly be a no-shrooms land. Thus, you bring up the matter with your old friend, the Scientist. He inhabits his more or less home, the library. Reviewing and rereading the collected books and bouncing ideas off the librarian and a free scientific aid.

You enter the large(in relation to other shroomish buildings) building. Meeting the several shrooms, sitting around the table reviewing the Knights tale, and the book of animal rearing.

The Librarian and Aid bow to you and your long time friend greets you warmly with a pat on the back, leaving the current topic to the others. You tell him of the results of your small mission and ask he look into it.

Chief, this is important ,yes. But must humbly decline. Big things coming soon, cannot be taken away from research for a moment. Understand, yes?"

You aren't sure how to respond. His work could be for the better of the Village.

Scientist snaps his fingers and waves over his assistant. He is bright. Someday maybe smarter than I. I have faith he can do, yes. Should only take a bit longer than me, yes.

The aid upon being praised, averts his eyes and thanks his superior and assures you he will do his best.

Your slingers can now, in fact, hit thr broad side of a barn as they can now honestly be brought into the fold. A somewhat useful force in your budding army. These slingers may not be the greatest but can easily take down a similarly trained opponent at moderate range.

You consent to the use of this upstart scientist. Head scientist thanks you kindly and walks off with the aid, perhaps to give some instructions and pointers on how to do the investigation correctly.

Hours later, the Aid and a full team of a dozen villagers, along with a cart full of supplies and pots of fresh soil and head south. You aren't sure how long it will take but it shouldn't be too long.

From what the second aid can gather, this 'leather' is simply the hide of animals. It has quite a few uses. It can be made into a light armor and straps, far more effective than the woven vines you use. Not 100% necessary that you upgrade that aspect of your armor however.

It can be used as covering in homes as well, a substance to write on and even a way of attracting insects. What use that has he doesn't know, he is simply reporting his findings.

---

The newly trained slingers are sent on their first mission. Along with a small protective band of Advanced spearmen, the unit trudges off into the northern jungle. With the information in your 'Book of Jungle Wildlife' it should not be long before a decent bounty is brought back, that is if no unexpected happenings occur.

Tunnels have finally been completed. Another nice defensive improvement to your city. Should, Shrom forbid' you lose your capital. The maze like tunnels can be a good escape route out of the city.

>Tunnels complete

---

A bounty of small creatures has been recovered by your hunting party. Nothing impressive. However of all the bodies recovered half had to be used to feed the prisoners of the humans you have in the tunnels. Lest they 'starve' whatever that means.

>3 Medium sized dino bodies recovered

---

You decide to open the gate to the village. The reptilians follow alongside your greeters, not advancing any farther than the front greater. In a worry you call for all the multilingual shrooms of your village. The wug-shroom, a couple human shrooms, and an aid.

You have them all go to greet the reptilians, however upon seeing the forms of two of their rivals fused with your kind, a look of disgust and humor falls over the small group. But luckily one of the reptilians is capable of speaking human.

"We were told your kind cannot speak past a few members. We were unsure how to know if the 'spore' language thing out master spoke of applies to us. We are lucky these... Beings' can translate our talk, sir. May it please you, we have a once in a lifetime opportunity you would be foolish not to accept.

After about an hour of pleasantries, walking about the village, talking of various aspects of your kingdoms. The reptilians seemed to get a particularly large bit of pleasure when they passed by the holding area of the human prisoners. The human prisoners now know the reptilians have made contact with you

Now to the main point of our visit. The reptilian pulls forth a piece of seemingly highly refined leather, rolled into a 'scroll'. Prospective ally of the Reptilian nation. A hand extended to you from our lady. Second princess of the Reptilian nation Her grace Scylla invites the one knows as 'Chief' leader of the Mycenae people, to a banquet on the Summerset isle. A celebration of you and our hopefully pleasant future relation.

An invitation to and banquet in an advanced city a meeting with a Princess! This is literally uncomprehendable to you. After a short explanation of what exactly this means, by the emissary and you understand. This is an incredibly important meeting. So much so that, if you will allow... This squad of reptilians is prepared to stay and wait until you decide.

He assures that, not only will the travel to the island be entirely the concern of their people. He also states that if you request, an entire company of their best warriors will defend the city and a highly commended general to lead them.
>>
You need not decide now, but know this offer is not eternal. The princess expects an answer by years end. Though, it is to be noted. If you are unable to attend, it will not be seen as disrespectful. As this is a spur of the moment decision her lady thought of.

Hey b0ss, we're ba... whats with the reptillians?" The aid returns with a near empty cart and a group of rather dry and bitter looking shrooms. The aid is also seemingly drier than the last time you saw him.

Don't worry bout them. C'mere. You arent sure you want to let your only real weakness out just yet. So you bring the aid to a room away from where the reptillians have been staying. He lays the details on you. All recorded on some wooden slabs.

The longest a shroom may stay in the sun before becoming to weak to move, is about nine hours. Our bodies weaken to about half as strong and smart at about five. Discomfort IS natural throughout the exposure to the sun, but when it sets in is different case to case. From minutes to two hours. We have thought of four methods of extending our time out in the sun

>1) If being reliant on a non-shroom is possible, being planted in dirt and moved by way of cart in a pot. This makes it possible to stay in the sun for as long as the soil retains moisture plus the 9 hour timespan.

>2) Covering the body and cap in moist soil before exposure can nearly triple the amount of time we can spend in the sun. 27 hours.

>3) Being in shade, a small amount of shade in the sun can keep our people comfortable for nearly 13 hour.

>4) Lastly, beforehand. If we drink a large volume of water we can stay damp and hold off the effects from 10-30 hours. Depending on how much we drink.
---

Lastly you take a survey of the villagers. The reptillians watch and marvel about how well you communicate with your people.

Most of the villagers are quite content. However the dozen that tagged along with the aid seem a little angry still, stating they will not go on any furthur missions of the sort.

The slingers are to be further trained. That they may be a well oiled fighting force in an actual combat scenario. Which, now that your small nation is becoming embroiled in political affairs, may be sooner than you hope, perhaps not though. Only time will tell.

Anyway, they are being trained and will be ready in 3 turns

>10 (T) Slingers>>> 10 (S) Slingers.
---

You finally come to a decision. The reptilians seem to take great joy in your answer.

The reptilians tell you that a large vessel will arrive at the bullywug village at the end of the season.(3 Turns) It from there, will transport you to Summergate. A short ride, well within your time restraints. The trip will most likely be short, but you may still wish to set a second in command to look after the city in your stead. Will be reminded of this and other things later.

!!3 turns remaining!!
---

A last minute idea pops into your head. With the cart transport idea in your head you decide to try and tame a larger beast to perhaps drive the carts for you. But big game can be unpredictable and dangerous.

Your men venture into the jungle with woven nets and few weapons.[spoilers]The art of the hunt and not killing is not something your men posses.

After learning the methods of sun protection you decide to keep a supply of it at the ready. Some of the many pots you have are filled with soil and others are collecting rainwater. They are placed near, or on several carts on the outskirt of town.

There is enough to keep half your population moist for two days in the sun. Or 1/4 for four days. About half is 33/40. Half is 60-70

---

You decide to put together your gear early. Again, a wagon is filled with some very high quality dirt. Also a group of the more important villagers. The Scientist, Librarian, and the best warrior of the village are all asking to join. Along with 8 Spearmen and 4 Slingers as personal guards.

The Aids and smalls are the highest ranking villagers during this trip. You also decide to smelt a bronze box, inlaid with your only precious gem. A sapphire.

---

A new line of weapons is forged for a new group of warriors. A combat axe. Sharp and heavy.

10 Bronze axes are created and given to villagers. They ask what to do with them.

Train?

I though we alone would be the only high ranking shroom at that trip, but then again we can probally steal so much information about their tech and military, by having our experts with us...just worried to leave village with only low ranking shrooms that don't have that much experience.

>start training small selected group of shrooms in diplomancy, decision making.and leadership in civ and military side.
Making sure that they get the idea in their heads, that they are gonna need to decide on stuff without us or scientist being in there.
Group would include, smalls, aids and few veteran spearshrooms.

>train axemen
>Research how to make pictures like in books

Writing stuff down is all good, but if we are gonna learn about lizards technology it would help if we got someone who can draw.

You can choose who goes. That was just an idea for the lineup. You could go alone if you want.

With the thought of your first, extended period of time away from the village. You have an epiphany. You are the first and last person almost any visitor ever sees. Your people are most content in staying in the company of their kind and not really dealing with the big scale. Happy in the small role they each play.

>Diplomacy: Your people have not had enough exposure to other peoples to have any degree of education or method on how to teach the subject. Recommended you bring a prospect on this trip and perhaps take an assistant or pupil.

>Military Strategy: Two shrooms come to mind. The combat shroom, the only one equipped with a shield, and smalls brother of the giants. You instruct the two to review the layout of the land and hint at the possibility of a promotion.

>Leadership: Nobody wants to even touch the subject. Nobody has even thought of a position of leadership even resembling yours. You may take a shroom and designate them as an acting-chief. Though, how well your people respond is unknown.
---

OOOOHHH so that's how we hold this thing, now what do we do with it?

>10(P) Axemen >>> 10(Ut) Axemen

---

There are many picture books amongst your library, you are sure that it must be possible to teach picture making to your people. Or at least one. You grab a few villagers who are lounging around, give them some ash and other writing instruments and ask them kindly to try and recreate the images in the books. The results are... Mixed.

"Hey scientist."

"Yo" He responds leaning back in a chair, relaxing in the meeting room. He may not admit it but he seems nervous for the entire event about to unfold.

"How well do you hypothesize salt water works for us in relation to fresh or rain water."

He looks up to the roof, thinking at a steady pace and comes back at you just as you have come to expect. With an incredibly likely hypothesis." I would guess it could work. But, not as an extended solution." In layman's terms, it is possible to work, however there may be a side effect. " Sorry, not paying attention much today."

A vague hypothesis leaves the topic labels 'handle with care'. But as the time restraints upon you grow smaller, you are forced to settle with this guess for now.

>Saltwater: Handle with care

---

The Axemen are put through a hell of a ringer. They get a crash course in how to actually use their gear and are drilled until they fully understand the many stances and formations, already instilled into your spearmen. However, you aren't sure how well the spearmen's training regiment will work for a shorter weapon that is a world apart.

Perhaps on your trip it would be a good idea to watch how the different armies of the reptilians, train and prepare for battle.

Rather than 3 actions you will do the following.
>1) Designate WHO will come with you on the trip. Take into account their abilities and skills.

>2) Designate one of the following.
A) A general growth pattern to follow. Military, growth, or tech. Which you choose will be the projects finished upon return. Will go into greater detail and tell what a particular assignment falls under upon request.

>B) Assign 3 tasks to be worked on. They will be done at an accelerated rate.

>3) What supplies do you bring. Anything besides the present will need to be listed or 'forgotten'.

Other than these 3 things, the next update will be the first part of your trip.

Dunno.

Tech, specifically research and refine better ways to survive in sunlight.
>B) Assign 3 tasks to be worked on. They will be done at an accelerated rate.
>Create/design an Advanced Wagon(With a cover) pulled by beasts of labor carrying pots filled with dirt, water and planted shrooms, it should allow us to survive in sunlight.

The village is left in the hands of the people. Lets hope they don't burn the place down. As you know, there are three tasks left to your people which are expected to be worked upon in the time you are gone.

Most of the villages most important members are joining, along with what is about 1/4 of your military, acting as bodyguards for the irreplaceable members of the village.

Town autopilot is now on

Your group makes a beeline for the bullywug village, the location that the reptilians had told you they would arrive. It is true. Upon arrival to the village, no... Before you arrive at the village you notice a behemoth of a ship. A monstrously sized ship, easily the size of your entire village. Its covered with metal plates and has weapons resembling ballista mounted on deck.

It is no wonder this race has become as strong as they claim. With tech and manpower enough to create and operate a vessel this large you can only wonder how the humans managed to hold their own against it, even with the aid of other races.

The bullywugs of the village are seen running through the forest, away from their home in all directions, upon your approach.

Upon your arrival to the docks you are met by your old friend, Deetum-Ja. He greets you warmly.
"Good day my friends, I am glad you could make it. I am sure you will not be disappointed in the preparations I have made in my city in preparations for your arrival".

Your men are all in wonder of the overwhelming amount of reptilians upon the boat and kneeling to them as they and you enter the ship. Scientist is even so impressed by the ship and devotion of the crew, that he writes of it in his personal journal.

"When I heard our lady Princess Scylla, had taken my word about your people to heart and invited you for an audience I was thrilled. I was even given charge of the ship on which we stand to retrieve you.

>A: Keep casual and talk with Deetum until you arrive.

>B: Search the ship and try to learn something.

>C: Hold a meeting with your men and give them missions upon arrival to the city. Clarify the tasks

The talk continues. Deetum seems more joyed the longer the two of you talk. Mostly for the part that he does the greater amount of talking. Though you are happy to take in all the information he is willing to spill.

He talks about his island. Since he came to rule it has made a positive turn apparently. He talks of the political structure of the reptilian empire, in that it is more or less a city-state system. United under the ruling family, said to be the sons and daughters of their god. Talk of the sacred mountain in the west where the Royal family returns after completing their tasks.

Apparently, none who set foot on the mountain have returned. Be it reptilian, human, or any foreigners. Speaking of that he tells a 'funny' story of the great war. Apparently a huge army of humans and bullywug combined forces broke beyond the defensive line and thought the King of their nation was in a city atop the mountain and attempted an invasion.

The entire army was never seen after a scout watched them begin climbing.

Another neat bit of information you pick up on is their biology. A reptilian can recover from nearly any injury so long as the head and body are in 'decent' condition, they are also immune to poisons and weak to cold weather.

The last thing he tells you before you arrive. Do not speak of humans in the presence of her highness, she has a greater distaste for humans than most amongst the reptilians"

You arrive to a large dock, with a fortress overlooking it. As the stairs are brought to the side of the ship you take a glance over the side. A huge city with hundreds of reptilians in casual clothing lining the streets.

>A: Take a Strong stance
>B: Take a Friendly stance
>C: Take a Cautious stance behind deetum

>D: Make directly for the castle
>E: Ask to Look around the town
>F: Ask to visit a particular location/locations

Much information of reptilian culture has been learned
>>
>>1878321
>A: Take a Strong stance
>D: Make directly for the castle

>ask if he could show the town to us later
>ask about interesting locations around the town

I'd say we should buff here, reptilians are aggressive people, looking weak and cautious is last thing we want to do, and not sure how friendly would play out.

>A: Take a Strong stance
