Hundreds of years ago, now, the world as we knew it had been fundamentally changed. From the lightbulb that chased back the darkness and reclaimed the night for humanity to vaccines that could cure diseases long before the patient would ever show signs of infection, an unprecedented age of safety and modern convenience was born, seemingly overnight. Borne on the wings of this incredible momentum, man had soared to unprecedented heights, touching the moon and reaching for the stars beyond. Unfortunately, just as it suddenly as it had emerged, one night was all it would take to turn the clock back from whence it came, baptizing man once again in their primitive fears.

As the night had come and sleep took your companion, you had been left with nothing if not time to think, to idly wonder what roads of the blasted city scape she must have walked yesterday to coat herself in so thick a layer of dust and what roads of life she must have endured to seem so content sleeping in spite of it all, lying there still armed and armored, a woman of no more than twenty-five with the handle of a well-worn shotgun still clenched fiercely in one callused hand.

You recall that she’d seemed almost mystified earlier when the pets had finally been put down for their rest. Her eyes had fallen on the jug of water you’d retrieved and half-poured out for Fred and her lips had immediately sworn at the perceived waste of it all before she’d begun greedily gulping down as much as her thin form could handle. The act had taken you off-guard. In that moment, Sandra had seemed wild and unnatural, mad even, but then you realized.

How long had the world before learned to take such things as clean water for granted? How long had they trusted in the perpetual nature of electricity and medicine that had been crafted and sustained by too many hands and machines to count?

Whatever they had lost and whenever they had lost it, the people who came after had certainly found it in spades, taunted and haunted by the shadow of conveniences their ancestors had mostly enjoyed with no effort or appreciation. The futility of it all would be enough to summon a mad cackle from your voice module, of course, but your eyes in the darkness spy eyes in the darkness and you remember: this is not the world from before and the night is yet dark and full of terrors.

Through some miracle, nevertheless, the morning comes, your companion still dozing as the animals stir from their medicine induced slumber on the operating table. Fred has already chewed through her breathing tube by the time you’ve gotten ahold of her, necessitating some risky maneuvering to get the plastic back out of her throat as she hacks and bursts from her pile of gauze, no worse for the wear.

The dog, Shadow, is far more demure as you unravel him and pull needles and tubes to a chorus of small whines. He sniffs at your metallic hands as you work and hover over him but does nothing, perhaps out of trust or perhaps out of fear or exhaustion. It makes no difference, really, as you consider the morning ahead of you.

You remind yourself that this place isn’t safe or won’t remain so for much longer. The explosion of the truck yesterday had caught more attention than you had anticipated and of all the wrong varieties. As soon as Sandra is awake, your safest option will be to move out and focus on your next objective: arming her to the teeth.

Well, maybe not literally, but her understandable suspicion of her own mortality will be easier to allay with more than a crude leather chest piece between her vital organs and incoming fire, and that may net you the vital support you’ll need in search of a new body.

She’s had more than eight hours at this point, and while she might need more, oversleeping will produce new complications. With that in mind, you decide now is as good a time as any to get the day started.

“Sandra,” you call. “Sandra, time to wake up.”

However, for an ever-alert wasteland wanderer, your companion seems to be a surprisingly fast sleeper. Noting that she still has shotgun in one hand, however, you decide against your immediate instinct to begin poking her with one hand, instead, grabbing a broom and a trashcan lid.

*Poke-Poke*

“Sandra!”

*Poke-Poke*

“Sandra!”

The ratcheting snap of a shotgun being caught catches your ear from behind your barricade.

“Shoot me again, and I swear to God, I’ll leave you to the next batch of ghouls,” you warn.

“Hrmn?” she murmurs groggily. “Sorry. Force a’ habit.”

“How about you force yourself awake, instead?” you fire back. “The sun’s been up for an hour now, and who knows what else will be coming to check this place out.”

Sandra looks outside to the brightening gloom.

“Shit! Let me load up my pack, grab Shadow, and we’ll go.”

At the mention of his name, you hear the rattle of a dog tag, the pooch making a likely graceless landing before stumbling his way out to greet his owner.

“Shadow!” Sandra greets, immediately running up to hug the pooch. “How’s Mama’s baby, huh?” Shadow gives her face a few reserved licks while whining. “Aww, I know, honey. I know, but give it a little more time and you’ll be all better, ‘kay?”

“Have you got any more of those stimpaks?” she asks, turning to you.

“There’s more blood in the cellar, but I don’t recommend giving him anymore of that stuff than you have to. Cellular degeneration from frequent use of forced growth hormones is- “

“Alright, alright,” she grumps. “We’ll let nature take its course then. Still gonna fill up my pack before we leave.”

With that, Sandra is off to the basement, presumably loading her pack with everything, medical and otherwise, she can fit inside. Maybe you should squirrel away a little extra for Fred, the thought occurs to you. However, with no actual means of carrying the medication, you simply wait for your pleased-looking scavenger friend to pop back up before once more, carefully burying the door. It’s then you hear a whine over your shoulder.

“Aww, it’s okay, boy,” Sandra promises. “We’ll hunt down something for you to eat before long. Just be patient, okay?”

Oh right, food. You mentally curse as you shovel the door open again and climb inside, digging out a massive bag of dog food before once more ceiling the entrance.

“Breakfast is served,” you announce, as you go back inside the clinic, neatly ripping open the bag before pouring its contents into a wash basin.

“What is that?” the woman questions, looking at the brown pellets curiously.

“Dog food,” you answer simply.

“Huh. Heard of it, but haven’t actually seen a bag myself. Think it’s still good?”

> Analysis: With its specific dry composition and comparatively dry storage conditions, Liberty brand dog food can effectively last indefinitely. The taste of freedom!

You explain that yes, it’s probably fine, before dragging Fred over to the bowl and pushing a handful of the stuff into her snout. A few sniffs later, and she seems convinced that this is, in fact, food and all but slams her head into the tub, the whole thing rattling up a storm as she begins devouring the kibble like a starving animal.

Well, she probably is a starving animal, now that you think about it. So is Shadow, and in the interest of not having him eaten by the hungry death claw, you pour a portion for him in a separate bowl, going through the same process of convincing him that the brown grains were food before turning to his owner.

“So, where are we going?” she asks.

“Near the old airport, there was a parking garage with a connection to the metro,” you explain, pulling up a digital map. “My records show that the vehicle wasn’t deployed following the bomb’s dropping. Rather, it was not scheduled to be deployed, because there were no personnel authorized for its use at the airport. In all likelihood, that means that it’s still where it was at that time.”

“And likely buried under a ton of rubble,” Sandra concludes.

“Maybe,” you admit, “but there are subterranean access tunnels we could use to come up from underneath, concrete reinforced structures that could have withstood the blast.”

“Enclosed spaces tend to be a recipe for disaster,” the woman points out. “Things live in them, and get by eating whatever comes their way.”

“That’s assuming they know these tunnels better than I do, which they don’t,” you snap back. “Look, if you’re hesitant about searching that area, other people probably are as well, and that’s why the supplies are probably going to still be there. We’re looking at multiple, mint suits of combat armor, med-x, rad-x, stimpaks, and weapons that are there for the taking with minimal hassle.”

Point out that if she was looking for a completely safe option, she was born in the wrong century, and picked the wrong occupation, and that if shes willing to put up with a little risk now, she'll be a LOT safer later in the Big, armed, and armored vehicle. Also, we'll be going with her, we have eyebots that can see in the dark, and nothings going to be eating us.
Not going to be getting a better deal then this.
>>
> [] Be reassuring
She doesn't have a "pride" to kick her in. She does, however, have backup. The close quarters will limit the number of enemies able to engage us at a time, lessening the advantage of numbers - in which we aren't lacking, either.

“Listen, Sandra. I think you’re forgetting one, very crucial detail.” As you say that, the swarm of four eyebots hover around you. “You and I aren’t going into this alone, and we aren’t going into it blind. I’ll have eyes on the scene long before you or I set foot there, and if the four of them somehow miss something, the tunnels will serve to limit the effect of large numbers.”

She seems to ease a little at that.

“More to the point, you’ll be much safer with a proper suit of protective gear and a pre-war gun than what you have right now. Think of it as a short-term, very small risk to make everything in the future much easier.”

“Fine…” she finally concedes with a sigh. “Let’s get this over with.”

“Wonderful, then before you change your mind, let’s be off.”

With the cellar secured and the front left the same, dilapidated mess as before, you thus depart west by southwest, chasing the ruins of the old airport. The snow seems a bit less heavy than yesterday, thankfully, and that makes the going easier as you continue to pass through ruined streets and the skeletons of houses.

“What percent of humans actually survived the bombs?” you ask out of morbid curiosity.

Why had no one started to rebuild?

“A lot,” comes the enlightening answer. “I’m not a scientist or somebody that learned a lot of history, but that’s the one thing everyone can agree on: a lot. The bombs did a chunk of the work, riots did some more, then the radiation set in and people started dropping like flies.

“There weren’t any doctors for the people in the cities, the places where the bombs hit hardest, and even where the bombs never hit, the sky still rained black snow and the water turned to poison. Crops died and more riots occurred as people killed each other over what little was left.

“Honestly, it’s hard to tell how many are left when anyone who isn’t nuts hides themselves someplace quiet, but for all the city that’s around us, what’s left of the people can fit in one tiny stadium and a stretch of subway tunnel less than a mile long. What does that tell you?”

Everything. As you internally compute the math and estimate the survivors, the numbers tell you that even the worst-case scenario of what you had projected didn’t account for how bad things had gotten. After all the cynicism that had gone into those estimates, all the assumptions of political strife, partial genocides, and civil wars, they still couldn’t capture the depressing scale to which the world would turn in upon itself.

And now, you remind yourself, you are hunting for guns, guns with which you might very well have to cut yet more, bloody swathes through the wastelands. The thought doesn’t give you comfort, so you delete the mental process running that thought and move on. The airport is coming into view.

In the glory days of America, it had once been a marvelous hub of travel, a gateway to the outside world crafted to show the resplendence of the nation and the city that bore it. However, now the only thing that sparkles from the blackened husk you see before you is the bombed out lake where the central terminal had once stood proudly, a host of bizarre, tremendous creatures milling around the pool.

Hmm. It’s hard to decide on this one, but more reconnaissance is never a bad thing. With that train of thought, you deploy the eyebots to the crater lake and have them begin examining the scene from overhead.

In the end, it’s curious, certainly, to see how the urban scenery has already begun to return to nature here. At the fringe, where the building was bombed out, the shelter of the eves has even given birth to a sort of greenery, misshapen and no doubt irradiated as it is.

In fact, your Geiger counter is fairly explicit in telling you that swimming in that water today would be a pretty good way to give yourself a third ear, but the softer mud around it show clear signs of wildlife having passed through of various sizes. You see hoof prints, paw prints, and even one massive pair of talons which must have originated from a thunderbird.

If the local creatures were drinking this as a primary water source… Well, it would say a lot about why everything left in the world seems to be the result of some horrifying nightmare of a biology experiment.

The mosquitos, for their part, don’t seem to pay you much mind as you hover above them, far more interested in tending their egg pods in the water below. How long they had been incubating was anyone’s guess, but by the downed corpse of a mutated deer in what was once the highway nearby, you have a feeling they’ll be the only occupant until something more terrifying comes by to force them out.

“Fucking blood bugs,” you hear Sandra swear as the two of you cross the road much further away and begin making your way to the emergency tunnel entrance. “Why the fuck did they have to survive the apocalypse?”

“No clue,” you admit, reeling the eyebots back in as the DAVID unit finds a hatch and begins attempting to power through two centuries of rust to turn the release valve. “Probably because God has a strange sense of humor.”

Speaking of which, just as you manage to turn the release valve to the open position, there is already something slamming its way up from the inside, a horrid, shrieking monster made of spindly legs, vibrating wings, and one, long needle for a face.

“AHHHH!”

“AHHHH!”

“SKREEE!”

For a brief moment the world dissolves into chaos, the insectoid hum of the king of all blood bugs almost as deafening as the hail of laser fire and shotgun blasts that begin tearing it to pieces. Limbs claw and swipe in all directions as the beast tries to gain its bearings on this new and incredibly painful circumstance, but you aren’t about to let it get its act together.

You just keep blasting until it stops moving, then keep blasting a little more for good measure until the insect’s corpse is thoroughly charred and sprawled over the entry way.

“Fuck. Bloodbugs.” Sandra punctuates one more time for good measure, the woman having been knocked firmly on her ass at the beginning of the debacle and only now getting back to her feet. “Serves y-“

“Just breath,” you say reassuringly to Sandra. “We’ll get through this.”

With that simple promise, you summon the eyebots and get them to work scanning the tunnels, your field of vision prioritizing theirs as they disappear into the darkness. Obviously, where there is one blood bug, there may be more. So, you keep all eyes out, toggling between thermal and night vision as you sweep your way in every direction of the tunnels, not just the direction you are planning to go.

Thankfully, it isn’t the blood bug showcase you initially feared. There’s signs of flooding along the floor, of course, and that goes a long way toward explaining the presence of the one, but from the absence of eggs or detritus associated with feeding, it’s likely this was a wanderer that saw its way out at the worst possible time.

Interestingly, as you sweep inward and northwest, you do notice that there is a climb both in temperature and radiation, an oddity that as you cross-reference with your city map you decide to attribute to a micro-reactor that had been used for powering the subway station leading out of the airport. Just north of that particular point, as you recall, there had also been a wash of public concern over the proximity of said station with an underground water source.

If the bombs had caused a collapse of that structure, which in turn had collapsed into the underground waterway... That would be something to investigate another day. For now, you begin filing back your search and pressing exclusively toward your point of interest, relieved as you notice the floor begin to rise away from the moisture and eventually come upon a door with the designation you were hoping for.

However, before you alert Sandra to your find, you notice something else in a tunnel leading left of the door, a sort of curious white residue coating the hallway, a strip of white fabric hanging from it and fluttering in the pressure-driven, underground breeze.

“Well, there’s good news and there’s bad news,” you tell her casually, getting the expected facial reaction. “The good news is that I found the door we’re looking for. The bad news- “

“Is more blood bugs?”

“Is the possibility of giant, mutated spiders,” you sigh.

“Great… That’s just fucking great,” she groans. “Are you basing that off a shitload of web or what?”

“There was some stuck to the wall.”

“Then, at least they aren’t jumpers…”

“Jumpers?”

“Jumpers, trappers, and a couple other types I can’t remember,” Sandra clarifies. “They aren’t exactly common, but jumpers are the worst.”

“And I’m guessing jumpers jump,” you conjecture.

“Listen, people aren’t all that smart nowadays,” she snaps back. “We’d rather be creative when it won’t get us killed. So, yeah, jumpers jump, and trapper silk is really freaking valuable if you can get enough of it.”

> Analysis: Specimens likelihood of descent from the specimens at Black site 347 is high.

Naturally.

“Well, I’m going in alone,” you say. “In the worst-case scenario, I have the advantage of not being able to be poisoned while I check up to the package we’re looking for. Watch Fred for me in the meantime, and if all’s clear, I’ll have the eyebot signal you.”

“No complaints here,” she confirms.

“Good.”

A half-second later, you’re splashing down in knee high water, giving an annoyed groan at what this is going to do to your servos. Still, there’s no rub for it but to make that inconvenience bear fruit, and so you begin sloshing your way down the line to where you know the door is.

Thankfully, it seems the coast is as clear as it had been for the eyebots, two of which you have with their sights trained down the hallway where there were signs of spider activity. As they haven’t been eaten or attacked by the time you can physically catch sight of them, you’ll dare to hope that the hunter has move on some time in the past.

> Analysis: Subject was known to experience severe aversion to cold. Likelihood of leaving an area that favored its natural preferences is low.

If the door is sealed, there’s at least the chance that there’s nothing alive between here and the rubble. I mean, the only way they’d be able to get in here is if they came in through the air ducts.

There’s no doubt of that whatsoever as you crack the door and immediately feel the tug of silken web trying to hold it against the wall. There isn’t the skin-crawling sound of a thousand, thousand legs shuffling to bring you a swift demise on account of that transgression, naturally, but it’s cold comfort as your thermal lens begins picking up several crawling forms the size of cats very clearly shifting in your direction, moving with the silent, deadly grace of practiced predators.

You are not going to allow yourself to be terrified by a bunch of insects.

> Analysis: Spiders are not insects.

You let the rage become your fuel as you kick the door to the spider’s nest wide open and immediately begin backing up, goading the guardians out with a mechanical hiss that mimics theirs as they hobble out, bearing their front legs threateningly. What they don’t see is the eyebots hovering in the corners above the now opened door and positioned behind them or the searing blasts of incandescence that subsequently bore through their bodies.

With three of the mutants thus liberated of their bodily fluids, your confidence grows. So, you turn up the volume and prepare for the next wave, only to be greeted with… nothing?

You listen carefully for a moment, focusing your sensors on the nest and the forms still milling around inside. Surely those three couldn’t have been all of the defenders, but you can’t see anything else.

*Tappa-Tappa-Tappa*

The sound gives you less than half a second’s tip-off to what’s about to happen, panels of the wall suddenly exploding down and outward as four massive specimens fly out from all sides, trying to tackle you to the ground.

You thought Sandra said there wouldn’t be jumpers. Then again, you wouldn’t know the difference, nor do you need to in order to begin squishing the vermin against the pavement, pulling flailing legs free and ignoring bites as your eyebots blast them at every opening.

Soon, it’s just you again, a stickier, angrier you covered in bug viscera and debating what to do with the nest ahead of you.

There’s no point trying to kill everything, at least not yet. There’s also no sense trying to clear the nest with a bunch of noise and running the risk of bringing in unwanted surprises later. For now, you simply soldier on, walking into what was once a concrete staircase and now a home to God only knew how many mutants.

You suppose if you looked at it one way, it was kind of beautiful, a canopy of glistening silk several layers thick rising up more than two dozen feet. However, it’s somewhat undercut when another guardian spider comes out and attempts to menace you, plinking off of your back before you turn around with a thunderous metal boot that crushes it flat.

The heat signatures that jump and scurry at the sound tell you there are plenty more where that came from, but not all of them seem that interested in you. Some simply continue feeding on a myriad of bundles woven against the walls. Others appear to be tending egg sacks, some moving clusters nearly as large as themselves from one pile to another as others hold close to the mounds in case you should attempt to destroy the future of their colony.

It was strange to see this sort of social behavior among spiders, for certain, about as strange as it is to walk past mummified blood-bugs, radroaches, and other things you can’t identify on your way up the stairs. You guess that makes sense, everything has to eat something, and the spiders are no different.

The roughly two to three dozen remaining in the nest also seem less than keen to draw your ire, steering clear of your path as you round one staircase after another, hissing with ire as you cut holes through their canopies to proceed but otherwise tempering that wrath with knowledge of their position here.

Eventually, you find yourself at another pair of doors, mint save for a hole punctured through the reinforced glass and surprisingly free of webs as the spider colony falls away. None seem keen on following you as you make your exit, and you needn’t look long on the other side to find what you’re looking for: the armored truck, miraculously intact despite the pile of rubble that clearly sealed the sub-garage from the outside.

There’s also something else, the long since rotted away and now skeletal corpse of a man webbed to its side with what appears to be a broken kennel on the ground next to him.

The truck seems to be mostly intact, at least the parts you care about, but the body raises questions that need immediate answers. Obviously, there’s little enough to say about just a skeleton, but as you sift through the silk, made fragile from years of neglect, you can start to make out details from the clothing.

Immediately, what catches your eye is the yellow, though worn and mottled by brownish-red rot. This person had been wearing a hazmat suit, and not the inexpensive kind. You can see shreds of it here and there on the floor, with the visor lying under the car itself, cracked and useless after a savage assault.

Still not enough to paint a clear picture, you press on, shearing the man’s limbs free so you can access his pockets and in the process revealing a peculiar piece of technology, a military standard PipBoy. Given sparingly to researchers and soldiers prior to the Great War, it no doubts contains a wealth of information, but you continue to observe the scene for at least a moment longer, just in case. There was evidence of a struggle from more than just the clothing, bullet holes and ricochet scratches from where a pistol had been fired several times at the ground. The pistol itself lies just barely beneath the body now plastered to the car, its clip half-empty clip and lying beside centuries old blood.

The cage itself was broken from the inside, you note, and there’s evidence of silk fibers all throughout, implying the long-term housing of something with web-spinning capability that was not pleased with its confinement.

You’d say at this point that it’s reasonable to suspect the obvious, that a man acquired a giant spider sometime before the war and attempted to escape with his sample. However, he hadn’t properly accounted for its strength or speed and found himself meeting a grizzly end shortly before making his escape.

Whoever this person was in life, they were the cautious sort. It actually takes you a bit of time to chew through their encryption to get at the data they’ve locked away. Fortunately, the PipBoy’s native OS wasn’t swapped out for something more complicated, which leaves plenty of openings for you to take the long way around and achieve super admin status. Past there, there are still secondary encryptions and cyphers that were employed to further obfuscate some of the data, but you’re lucky enough to find the encryption seed used for generating those still buried in the cache.

Soon, it’s just you and the data, a terrifying amount to be honest. Pages upon pages of documents and other files have been chronicled in this device, covering all of the experiments carried out and information gathered at Black Site 357 from beginning to end. It seems that this person was looking to create a bargaining chip for themselves and downloaded everything shy of the mainframe in pursuit of those goals.

[“I refuse!”]

So, begins the last log of one, William Abernathy, Chief Research Scientist for Black Site 357.

[“I refuse to allow the last gasps of these resource hungry tyrants to spell the end of my days on earth! Others insist the Enclave will come for us, that we merely need hold our composure and our position to outlast the devastation that began this morning, but I know the truth!”]

[“The bunkers have been full for weeks, the headcounts selected from among the most wealthy and influential of our society. Colleagues of mine, treasured associates, have seemingly fallen from the face of the earth, leading me to one conclusion. We… We are what will be left behind.”]

[“Long after our deaths, they’ll come to pick the research clean from our cold, dead hands, as they will for so many others that they’ve encouraged to work up until the moment of their deaths. My colleagues were simply too young and inexperienced to see that fact, even as I explained it to them. So now, I must go alone.”]

[“The fusion powered plane I purchased with every dime I could spare is waiting in the garage. The island is going nowhere. So long as I can last until the quiet after the storm, when all the great beasts lie dead, I’ll have my exit from this hell that they’ve created.”]

[“Maybe then, the specimen I’ve borrowed will have her chance to shine. Surely, there will be some contact of mine I’ll be able to reach after the violence who, with the right bargaining chip, can negotiate safe harbor for me in whatever islands of hospitality are left.”]

[“God see me safely through this long, dark night. God help us all.”]

It seems that his plan ended only a couple of hours after it had begun, perhaps when a bomb struck the garage he was hiding hin, perhaps when the spider broke loose from its cage. Either way, it seems that he lived a couple of miles outside of town, and in the past requested special permissions to craft both an underground bunker, and a reinforced garage structure. There may be something left there.

You’ll have to find that out, along with whoever this Enclave was…

The specimen in question went under the code name, King Caterpillar, a reference to the Chinese silkworm it was meant to dwarf the production of. Various different types of research were ongoing at the time on site, but the arachnid base had acquired a sizeable advantage from the introduction of a biological mutagen known as FEV.

With the original host species being the bird-eater tarantula due to its massive size, several different genetic subsets were hybridized into the species from compatible arachnid groups. Banana spiders as well as orb weavers were incorporated due to the advanced nature of their spinnerets and silk production, with other species of strong-legged arachnid such as the jumping spider and wolf spider incorporated as the size began to produce logistical burdens on the species’ joints.

There’s also a laundry list of partial genetic introduction gone through at some length from different species, including mammals and even plants, but that quickly explodes into a multitude of hypotheticals and failure cases. What was more important was the irregularity seen in the successful Subject 0, specimen.

Due to the particular nature of the mutagen utilized, Subject 0 seemingly required no breeding partner to produce viable eggs. However, the offspring that resulted from her egg clusters were taxonomically different than her artificial ‘true’ species, seeming to lean more toward one side or the other of their genetic ancestry.

This frustrated the research scientists to no end, as their perfect specimen only had a roughly 1 in 100 chance of producing an exact copy of itself, with all other iterations being significantly smaller and some incapable of producing silk at all.

Despite this, Specimen 0 could be said to be a tremendous success, capable of producing hundreds or even thousands of times the amount of any of her ancestor species as she grew. The only perceived downside in this was the notable increase in aggression and, strangely enough, intelligence. Though originally the prospect had excited the researchers when she had shown herself capable of solving basic toddler puzzles within her first month, it quickly turned concerning as she began pre-meditating meal deposits and seemed to be constantly probing her container for ways to escape.
>>
>>1853343

Due to her heightened aggression, researchers began looking into ways to pacify her periodically, a necessary step to gather silk samples and feed her. While proving remarkably difficult to poison due to her tremendous lung capacity and penchant for sabotage, cold eventually proved an effect way of deactivating her, inducing severe lethargy due to what is conjectured to have been a combination of hibernation instinct and pain caused by the sudden constriction of capillaries in her outer tissues.

The research logs toward the end seem to be as fearful as they are hopeful, the researchers trying to think of the best methods of recapturing or detaining Subject 0 in the event of an escape. While the native cold of Seattle would certainly deter her from ranging far, were she to escape to a warmer clime, the situation would pose a risk to countless species and civilians.

Were you made of softer parts, it would make you shiver, no doubt, especially as you take another look at the kennel and note, that for all the damages to the bars, the door had likely been opened by the proper means, a single strand of silver wrapped around a clamp that would have needed to be pulled up.

Sandra and Fred are getting anxious. You can see that through the eyebot you left with them. So, you do your best to power through the parts on FEV and get at least the general idea. It seems that the Forced Evolutionary Virus (FEV) was a mutagen derived from the Pan-Immunity Virion Project that had debuted in the news at times, years before the war.

Apparently, along the way to the cure for all diseases and a convenient inoculation against radiation, they discovered the vaccine could do much more than just that. Something about the quad-helical structure or the hydrogen sheath created by the virus had resulted in mutations that left the subject stronger, larger, more durable, and even more intelligent, the scientific speculation for which goes on and on in condensed textbook-like walls within the PipBoy’s archives.

Despite these overwhelming advantages, the process of finding the exact right strain of the virus that would cause the associated chain to pair correctly with the host DNA was still a labor-intensive project. This constituted the majority of the experiments in the facility, which is saying quite a lot in the amount of experiments they went through just to get their invented species to a place of viable reproduction.

The death toll was high, as was the number of bizarre, repeatable mutations that they eventually decided would be discarded in search of a better answer. Even their communications with other facilities conducting research into other species didn’t seem to help much. Still, you can’t help but wonder if the lab is still there along with the FEV, if maybe somewhere down that long, discontinued road there might be some salvation for the people left in this irradiated hell.

You shake your head as you contemplate playing God. You can’t quite give it up that easily, of course, but it helps you remember there’s an armored truck in front of you that needs opening. That, at least, proves easy.

You dismantle the outer port and plug yourself in directly, entering the military override code to the sound of a prolonged hiss before the door unceremoniously drops down into a loading ramp. Even now, the lights still work inside this thing, flickering on after two hundred years to reveal exactly what you were looking for.

A team of four and one dog, the standard emergency response group loadout was packed and ready to go, as per procedure. That included a combat suit, combat shotgun, pistol, taser, riot shield, two grenades, three stimpaks, three rad-x, two med-x, and enough emergency rations for three days per person. There’s also an industrial-sized fire extinguisher.

“I’m coming back,” you radio to the eyebot. “Just hold on where you’re at.”

“Did you find what we’re looking for?”

“That and a ton of spiders,” you confirm. “No offense, but I don’t want you anywhere near them.”

“None taken,” she assures you.

With that, you’re already grabbing bags and preparing to leave. While there’s too much here for just your current retinue to use, maybe you could recycle some of it or retailor it for Fred’s use.

You also grab the fire extinguisher on the first load. For as unwieldy and heavy as it is, you feel a bit more secure with it to hand, taking this opportunity to spray the walkway ahead of you and confirm that the research does in fact hold water.

The spiders, much like cats, don’t seem to appreciate either the damp nor the sudden drop in temperature associated with the foam, recoiling away from wherever you spray as you make your way down, unmolested. In exchange, you try not to hit their egg sacks directly. After all, feeding a spider colony this size means that they had to be seriously thinning the number of something else, possibly the blood bugs or possibly something worse.

You take a pass on thinking of ‘something worse’, at least, contenting yourself to slosh your way back to the manhole and struggle your way back up with arms full of gear.

“Here, get dressed,” you say nonchalantly, as you toss the bags at her feet.

“Holy shit!”

You leave her to that as you splash back down and return to work. No offense to the dingy sewer, but there are other places you’d rather be than soaking your circuits in God knows what. Fortunately, the spiders seem to agree with that sentiment and need little in the way of additional motivation to keep out of your way on your final pass.

Armor, weapons, a few spare power cores, anything shy of stripping the truck for parts, you take with you including pocketing Mr. Abernathy’s PipBoy. Again, the spiders are happy enough to see you go, and you could almost swear you hear them going back to seal the door with silk after you close it behind you. You suppose you can’t really blame them for that.

Back topside, Sandra is looking a bit more presentable, her dusty leathers on the ground as she checks the fit of her boots and new pants.

“It’s not power armor, but it’s at least an upgrade,” you posit as you toss yet more bags at her feet. “Got armor for Shadow as well.”

“What the-.”

She’s like a kid on Christmas as she begins unhooking the armor from one of the packs and putting it on her pooch, the dog patiently waiting through the process as he is outfitted for war. Fred must wonder if she too will be getting presents, but then she goes back to eating the giant, charred bloodbug from earlier.

“I don’t need it,” you emphasize one more time. “Besides, if you have to pay me back for it somehow, you’re about to get your chance. Put simply, I want to get by the DHS and grab myself a new body.”

“You’re crazy…” the woman manages, suddenly looking a touch paler.

“Maybe I am,” you concede, “but sometimes you need to be a little crazy to make headway. So, how about it? Are you up for it?”

Sandra looks at her armor, her new combat shotgun, and sighs.

“The riot shields gonna do any good against lasers?”

“It’ll take a couple of shots to smoke through the ballistic glass. You’d only do better with a full metal slab, but then you’d have the weight to consider.”

“Then it’s now or never,” she concludes.

She doesn’t seem happy about it, but resignation may have to do.

“Tell you what, Sandra,” you suggest. “If you’re still feeling like you’ve got cold feet, there are a few extra things I’d actually like to take care of. Fred here doesn’t have anything to protect her, and I wanted to get that mirelurk shell turned into armor for my eyebots. I figure we can knock both of those out if we see a friend of mine up north.”

“You talking about the crazy robot up by the I-90?” she asks.

“Jeremy, yeah,” you confirm, “and he’s not crazy, just… unique.”

She doesn’t really offer a counterargument as you make your way clear of the airport, and thankfully, nothing else seems to take a strong interest in your group as you begin making your way back whence you came. It’s just the pristine silence you would expect after the world had ended, one you stop to enjoy for a moment so that the crunch of snow under your footsteps doesn’t interfere. That’s when you hear it.

*VRRRR…! VRRRR…! VRRRR…!*

The telltale noise is familiar, though the last thing you expected to hear in this day and age: an engine, an honest to gods, fuel-burning engine, the steady roar echoing from every building in the direction you’re heading. You find yourself frozen for a second trying to track its trajectory before Sandra is turning back to you with a look.

“You coming?” she inquires.

“Do you hear that?”

“Hmm? Yeah, something’s got The Dream running the rounds again. Best not to find out what in my opinion.”

“The Dream?”

“A motorcycle,” she explains. “It’s a piece of old world tech the folks in the metro break out every now and again, usually more to make courier runs than anything else. Comes complete with some crazy old cuss of a ghoul. Like I said, probably better just to stay clear.”

You weigh your curiosity against the literal weight of everything you have piled on your back.

You could go after the motorcycle, but what then? Hope they don’t shoot you then ask for a lift?

Even with the Mirelurk shells acting as makeshift sleds, it’s clear your companion doesn’t share your limitless power source. She’s far from winded, used to traveling the wastes as she must be, but she doesn’t look ready to run after a motorcycle either. You decide to give this one a pass, well, almost. You wind up sending an eyebot chasing after the sound, at least, with the hopes that maybe it’ll catch up.

That just leaves you, Fred, Sandra, and Shadow marching through the snow for the better part of an hour.

“So, you were actually serious when you said you were SARA?” Sandra questions as you come around to Allentown, the both of you keeping an eye toward the Duwamish, just in case.

“SARA, SEER, whatever you prefer,” you confirm.

“SARA seems a bit more humanizing,” she says with a shrug. “Plus, you’ve got the female voice and all.”

“SARA then, but yes. Were you seriously doubting me?”

“In a world where a machine convinced a cult that it was the second coming of Christ, yeah. Robots can be pretty freaking nuts.”

You sigh.

“Well, I’m the real deal.”

“And all that stuff you said about the vaults?” she questions. “Do you really know where they all are? What’s inside? You know, if you could help me find a GECK, it’d go a long way toward fixing everything around here. GECK stands for-”

“Garden of Eden Creation Kit,” you finish, “and yes, I’ve heard of them. Unfortunately, I couldn’t tell you what exactly is in the vault. I only know what was shipped there and when.”

“Oh…” she says, clearly disappointed.

“If I knew where one was, I’d tell you in a heartbeat,” you promise her, “and if we ever find one, you bet your ass we’ll recover it and use it. Still, as far as I know, only a very few were ever made.”

“Any guesses you could make?”

“No,” you admit, shaking your head after a minute of running the numbers. “None of the deliveries seem to stand out in a way that would indicate where one would wind up. The only one that seems peculiar is the one that never had a single person assigned to it, just Mr. Handy’s and ridiculously large shipments of Liberty Dog food.”

“Wait. You mean there might be a vault filled with nothing but dogs?”

“If I had to guess…”

“Fuck, and I thought people were joking with the horror story of the one guy and the vault full of puppets…”

That bike is fast, but it’s also limited by its terrain. With a bird’s eye view and the ability to travel as the crow flies, it’s at least feasible to set up a course for interception. Curiously, his westward trajectory takes him straight to the coast and down Renton Avenue, right back to the neighborhood you’d been in yesterday. You mentally curse as he comes nearer the clinic and then again when you notice said clinic appears to be overrun with mirelurks.

However, any thought that the rider has no idea what he’s charging into is shortly overtaken as he draws up short and ducks into an alley, his hands twisting hard on the throttle as the ungodly roar of American horsepower does a damn near perfect stand-in for a death claw, the volume and bass somehow growing with each rev, clearly catching the attention of the mirelurks gathered there before he comes screaming out at full force with engine roaring and blinding lights flashing.

You can’t exactly follow what happens next. It all moves too fast. The mirelurks may very well feel the same way as the world turns into a cacophony of explosions for them, something that looks like a black blur blitzing past and leaving their mutated lobster friend a pile of erupting gore and viscera.

Then he turns back, the volume of the engine growing, the whole twisted pile of metal seeming to come to life, shaking and belching out smoke. And then the mirelurks run, they run like their lives depend on it back whence they came as the roar of the engine comes bearing down on them.

The rider, however, clearly has other matters in mind. He settles for chasing them only halfway down the street before turning back, parking in front of the clinic before prying himself from the seat and looking around. Seemingly satisfied that the coast is clear, he kills the engine, carefully prying the helm from his face and the keys from the ignition before stepping inside.

You can’t get a good look before he ducks inside, but you decide now is the time to approach, lowering your eyebot from the nearest building to get a better look at the bike in question. ‘Massive ‘is the first word that comes to mind, the hulking body armored and equipped with an extra-large tank and some unholy combination of a fusion core and four-cylinder engine.

There’s no uniform style to it, no single model to this creation that you could name, only parts from a dozen or so different American manufacturers and a skull that must have been ripped from a death claw affixed to the handlebars. With the stars and stripes painted on the fuel tank, a sweeping calligraphy boldly declares the name of this machine as “The American Dream”.

“Hey!” comes a growly voice from inside, straight from the lips of a man who looks like he’s been dipped too long in acid. “The fuck are you doing?”

“Don’t shoot!” A classical wastelander first line, and often their last. “I was just admiring your bike. It’s-.”

“Huh,” he mutters. “That’s new.”

“What’s new?” you ask.

“Usually, they’ve just got these things on autopilot, floatin’ all over the fuckin’ place yellin’ slogans or advertisements.”

“The name’s SARA,” you greet.

“Rex,” he answers simply. “Real pleasure to fuckin’ meet ye, but why are ye here?”

“Are you this aggressive with everyone you meet?”

“World’s dangerous,” he points out, leaning against the doorway as he lights up a smoke. “Seems to be a pretty good survival strategy to cut right to the fuckin’ chase. Less bullshit that way.”

“Fair,” you say, “and that smoke’s to make sure I don’t have a sniper on you, right?”

That actually seems to get a smile from the ghoul as he takes a puff and lets the smoke waft in front of his face.

“Ye can’t see a dot on yer forehead, but ye can sure as hell see it with a bit o’ smoke,” he confirms. “Trick that an old timer taught me, and, hell, isn’t like a smoking’s gonna be the thing that kills me.”

He takes a moment to enjoy his nicotine before returning to the matter at hand.

“So,” he says, blowing a plume from his desiccated nostrils. “Yer smart, but ye still haven’t answered my question.”

“You can hear that thing for miles,” you point out. “I just wanted to take a look, and I’ve gotta admit, it’s pretty impressive. You managed to get four conventional cylinders running on the same timer AND boosted performance by turning it into a fusion core hybrid? That’s some serious ingenuity!”

“More like a serious pain in my ass,” he chuckles, taking another puff. “The old timer was about ready to split my skull when he saw what I wanted to do to his baby, and after we got that settled, we still had to tear out everything to fit that baby in. Still, there just ain’t anymore gas to rob at this point.”

“So, what brings you out here, anyway?” you ask.

Rex’s expression sours for a second, as though the smoke had suddenly taken on a bitter taste before he exhales.

“The city’s too loud for this time o’ year,” he explains, scratching the wrinkled and scarred surface of his scalp. “Somebody lit up one o’ the glow sticks over on the Hill a couple days ago and almost had a crowd of ferals tearing up the streets. Then, some other jackass decides to play musical hand grenades with the mirelurks, from the looks of things. Heard Johnnie Boy and his goons were seen around here around then. So maybe they’re the ones to blame for that, at least.”

“What’s a glow stick?” you ask.

“Huh? You must be new around here. It’s what folks call a feral ghoul that got enough radiation to turn itself into a night light. They’re rare and they usually don’t like the surface, but they’re also real, fuckin’ dangerous. Only takes one to get a crowd of near a hundred riled up, and then you’ve got an epidemic on your hands.”

“Huh. Well, I guess you could say that I’m new around here, in a sense,” you admit, “but it would be more accurate to say that I’m behind the times. Remember when I said my name was SARA?”

“Yeah…”

“I’m that SARA, as in the Seattle Automated Response program.”

“Heh. Heheheh.”

“You know, I’m getting kind of sick of that reaction at this point.”

“So, I take it I ain’t the first, then?”

“You wouldn’t be the first one I’ve had to convince, no. At least all it took for Jeremy was scanning my ID chips.”

“Huh? You got Jerry’s seal of approval?” he inquires with a raised brow. “Good enough for me, then. Welcome back to paradise, toots.”

“Thanks.” At least that was easy. “Anything you can tell me about the city nowadays?”

“Valks in the stadiums, Brotherhood on Harbor Island, crazies over on Mercer. Raiders, monsters, and freaks everywhere else.”

“Lovely…”

“It’s life,” he shrugs. “Incidentally, if you are who you say you are, don’t go tellin’ people where ye hang yer head. People have been pullin’ salvage off old SARA stations for years now. Some of ‘em even said the systems were still live.”

That was. Those were. You need a second to process this.

“Where did they take those pieces of me?” you ask, a bit more emotional than you intended. “Who has them now?”

“Look, I’m sorry,” Rex apologizes. “I know from the looks it can be hard to tell, but I’m barely out of my twenties. The so-called golden days of scrappin’ were done before I was suckin’ on my Ma’s tits. Nowadays people are just as likely to scrap old settlements that folded as to be goin’ after somethin’ new. Those pieces were probably pulled apart or melted down years ago, and the list o’ names they passed through would be a mile long.”

This is unreal.

“I want to help this city,” you intone gravely, “but how am I supposed to do that when they’ve dismantled everything that I was?”

The ghoul thinks for a long moment, burning his cigarette down to the lip before stomping it out in the snow.

“I don’t know,” he admits, “but we need all the help we can get.”

He takes a second to think.

“Ye know, if anybody’s likely to still have that old tech in one piece, it’s the Brotherhood,” he guesses. “They’re new to the area. Don’t get me wrong, but they like collectin’ old world shit, broken or otherwise. I also seem to recall Lucius winnin’ an old mainframe over a game o’ cards.”

“And who is Lucius?”

“Friend of mine, and a real nice guy. Never seen him gamble before that, but he said he wanted to figure out how old-world computers worked. And if anyone could do it, believe me, it’s him. He invented the design for this motor all on his own, along with a mile-long list of other crazy shit. If you’re ever by the metro, feel free to look him up. Tell him that Rex sent ye. Also, if that fucker Billy gives you any guff at the main gate, let him know he still owes me eighty caps over that game o’ dice.”

With that, the ghoul is getting back on his bike, and putting his helmet back on.

“The lurks’ll be back, soon,” he informs you. “A little noise and death ain’t gonna stick with ‘em for long. So, I recommend ye skedaddle. A pleasure meetin’ ye, and try not to get yerself killed, alright?”

He doesn’t really wait on a response as he lowers his visor and turns the key in the ignition, the infernal roar of his bike once more shattering the quiet peace of the winter air before it goes screaming off into the snow.

Well, that was interesting, you suppose, and in the meantime, you and your companion have been making good time to Jeremy’s.

A thought occurs as you plod the endless snow. You may not have a motorcycle, but you do have something else. So, loading up the biggest mirelurk shell you have dragging on the ground with everything else, you have Sandra and Shadow climb in as well, burning a hole through the sled in a few key places along the fringe before running lines through the perforations. You then fasten those lines to your eyebots and finally attach the rest to a makeshift harness you loop around Fred.

Fred is very confused, but also excited, her tail wagging back and forth as you climb on her back. Now for the finishing touch. A dog treat attached to a spare antenna is dangled in front of Fred’s nose, just close enough to where she can sniff it, and then you move it just far enough away that you hope she feels the obligation to begin chasing after it.

“I’m telling you, this isn’t going to-.”

Sandra chokes on her words as the sled lurches forward, Fred pulling with all her might and quickly picking up speed after the phantom treat as you begin blasting your way through the snow. Twenty, thirty, forty, your internal speedometer keeps ticking upward as you realize that death claws are, indeed, terrifyingly fast, the eyebots just doing their best not to fall behind as they balance the sled for stability.

This is an essential function as random bumps and ramps in the street arise without warning, launching your companions and cargo up with a surprisingly girly scream before they come back down amidst a spray of white.

“Now, THIS is podracing!” you shout, getting a confused look from behind.

“WHAT?”

For a profound second, you feel sad and very alone. However, you lose the ability to focus on that as out of a side alley comes something that looks like a tremendous, hairless bear, one followed by a troupe of smaller bears and none too happy as you narrowly blitz past them. Unsurprisingly, at that point, they decide to give chase, and much to your horror, they aren’t much slower than Fred.

“OH SHIT! YAO-GUAI!” you hear yelled from the back, but whatever they are called, you’re going to have to lose them before you get much closer to Jeremy’s.

Chitin scrapes against brick as you force a hard, left turn, followed by a right down an alleyway, the bear not far behind as it sends up waves of powder with each bound of its tremendous paws. It seems after wasting this much energy chasing you, it figures that it has to catch you to make up for the energy loss. Either that, or it’s just as malicious as it is radioactive.

Either way, you spy your salvation down a long corridor, a truck seemingly blocking your way as the beast closes in from behind.

“Sandra, get down!” you shout.

“WHA-AAAAAAAAHH!”

The dog treat goes up and so does Fred, the death claw jumping onto the hood then the roof of the car as your eyebots desperately thrust upward. A split second later, there is the sound of something heavy crushing face-first into the truck, and though the horrifying noise leaves you uncertain which made it out of that exchange for the worst, you can at least breathe a bit easier as you return to the main road and spy Jeremy’s not far ahead.

“Are you *huff* fucking crazy?” Sandra demands as she stumbles out of the sled and seems on the verge of heaving.

Shadow wobbles a little before sitting down.

“Nope,” you answer simply, unhooking Fred and tossing her the hard-earned treat before giving her a neck rub. “Now, get back on, so I can fly you two to the roof.”

Sandra gives you an insidious look, but she does as she’s asked, the eyebots lifting the platform up and away before placing it next to the hatch entrance.

“Ms. SARA,” comes an electronic voice as soon as you touch down. “Back again so soon, are we?”

“I’m here to drop off some supplies for my locker,” you explain. “I’ve also brought along a guest and a couple of pets.”

“Ah, yes. I’d recognize Sandra and Mr. Shadow. If they’re here as part of your business, I’ll welcome them in. Now, let me check the front and… OH MY CIRCUITS! IS THAT A BLOODY DEATHCLAW?... Also, mum, you appear to have been shot.”

“Yes, and yes, Jeremy,” you sigh. “I assure you Fred is harmless enough and the damage is nothing serious. Please, just let us in.”

“You’ll understand if I have my reservations, mum.”

“Well, it’s either that, or I leave her out here with your moles.”

“Very well, very well!” he concedes, “but you’ll be paying for anything she claws up!”

“Deal!”

With that, the door hisses open, and on the other side is the familiar Mr. Handy.

“Well, then, come in. You’re letting out the warmth.” You and Fred, quickly comply, though you have to give the latter a small tug to disengage her vision from the mole rats bouncing around in the yard. “Now, what would be bringing you by other than your delivery? Forgive the presumption, but I imagine there are other items on the menu.”

“You aren’t wrong,” you assure him. “We’re planning to take on the DHS to take down some of those rogue units and I want to ensure that everyone has the best protection possible. In that vein, I’m wanting to refit my eyebots with mirelurk armor plating and get Fred here a suit of armor.”

“Do I look like a bloody blacksmith?” Jeremy demands, seemingly offended.

“You look like a capable and dedicated craftsman, and one who wouldn’t shy away from a custom order made by your oldest customer.”

“Hmph. Seniority is it, then? Fine, but don’t say I never did you any favors.”

Almost too easy.

> Alright. You are now in possession of downtime and materials. That includes plastics, metals, circuitry, and ceramics and the means to shape them. This will mark the formal end of the thread, but feel free to suggest any upgrade you’d like to make that you feel you could reasonably craft out of available supplies in a reasonable period of time.

>>
>>1855651
Something that could allow us to communicate with Jeremy, something that bip with a certain code, so he knows we found stuff that may require arms to bring or something that gives our location.
Could use that to leave loot in secure place once enough robots are build to be sent on errant.
>>
>>1855673

I want to clarify that I don't really have artistic skills, so I rely on whatever images I can find that vaguely suit your body type. The following image sort of looks like the DAVID unit, but the principle features are these:
> Roughly four feet tall
> Chassis is white with minimal decals in red and blue denoting domestic military/medical service
> Full articulated hands with fingers that can hold conventional weaponry
> A plain face with virtually no articulation, but two eyes
> A boxy protrusion from the back that serves as a mounting point for specialized payload (current loadout is 'wings' consisting of five eyebot thrusters)
> Extremely high strength to weight ratio.

>>1855676

Bear in mind, beacons that broadcast signals can be found by anyone looking for them. When Jeremy has units at his disposal though, their assembly would be easy. He just lacks other active robots due to a lack of power cells.
>>
>>1855651
>>1855651
Could we get a quick list of any offers Jeremy would make us for any loot of the we've brought back?
>>
>>1855694

One thing to bear in mind for Jeremy is that he's a RobCo model clerk unit that has seemingly assumed the role of maintaining the entire facility in absence of the staff. As such, anything he would barter for would be raw materials that assist him to those ends. That includes:
> Cement: 10 caps/lb
> Plastics: 10 caps/lb
> Common metals: 10 caps/lb
> Semi-precious metals: 30 caps/lb
> Glass: 20 caps/lb
> Oil: 20 caps/liter
> Acid: 20 caps/liter
> Antiseptic: 30 caps/liter
> Adhesive: 50 caps/liter
> Circuitry: 50 caps/lb

Nothing you brought back particularly appeals to him in that sense (as he has no need for guns or combat armor), but he might accept donations from your storeroom and balance them toward your credit at the facility.

The reason he has caps at all or deals in them is because sick people sometimes come and pay him a rate to have Matilda (a medical grade Ms. Handy) look after them, which he uses to buy scrap.

Encryption is definitely something you can do, and due to the fact that you can communicate with your robot anywhere in Seattle, you likely still have access to the COMSAT system. Effectively, this means you can transmit information anywhere within the city, textual, auditory, or even visual. Now that Sandra has a pipboy, you can communicate with her through that.

Also, it goes without saying that Fusion Cores are valuable. You can typically get 200 caps per unit, which is 100 caps per pound, making them more valuable than gold. Military grade and civilian grade cores have certain differences that make them incompatible, but power is power in the post-apocalypse. You presently have around ten, but as they are your lifeblood, you are loathe to part with them.

If you can find a way to convert cores, however, recapture a facility that makes them, or just stumble into a pile of civilian grade units, Jeremy will pay top dollar for them.

The protectrons and other Handy's in his facility are inactive because he lacks the means to put them online.

Oh we can do a lot with some of that. Including upgrading robots and energy weapons.

If there are any particularly large bots we could cannibalize some car reactors to power them...or recharge some temporary batteries instead.

Who I got another thing we should build. Create a circular saw but make the blades much bigger and nastier. Include a port to plug into our David unit. hello twisting saw of death shred things that think its good idea to get too close. Also useful as a tool. Consider modifying the saw to be able to electrify the saw blades.

Ooh another thing we can build using some wiring, power source, and ceramic to serve as a heat sink...is a weaponization of the heat sink. Either by using some water to super heat into steam and spray it out as form of thrower. We could also modify the heat sink to serve as a kind of super heated blade or tool. With some work we could even combine it with the saw.

If its hot enough we can even melt metal and if we can create a device to hold the molten metal. With some pressurizing we could turn it into a gun or thrower that shoots liquid metal! Also very useful to reinforce stuff in a pinch once it cools.

Ah consider getting some tools and putting them aside.

Aluminum shavings and rust we can combine to create thermite charges. Include a little bit of gunpowder in a tube with some shrapnel surrounded by the thermite and you got yourself a incendiary grenade from hell.

What's worse then a grenade? Why one that sets you on fire with thermite level heat AND it shreds with shrapnel is partially melted bits of metal at the same fucking time!
>>1855694
First modify a suit of combat armor to fit the DAVID unit. Secondly modify an SMG and a shotgun to be fired one handed. We can then use the other hand to carry a shield. Take advantage of our great strength to become the unfeeling unstoppable tank full of pain we were meant to be.

If possible modify one of the eye bots to possess a multitool. Modify another eyebot to have a 'hand.' Modify the last two eyebots to carry a zap gun that can be 'overcharged' to a lethal capacity or simply let it perform as a tazer with much greater range thanks to arcing of electricity. Basically its gonna be a zap gun attacked to their battery. Shouldn't be a problem to fire so long as the eye bots aren't doing any activities that use up a lot of power. If possible see if we can do the same to the other two modified eyebots.

Hell jury rig ourselves a zap gun to attached to our David's battery. It will be a handy backup weapon and no doubt pack a much bigger punch then the eyebot versions.

More importantly those zap guns are gonna be crucial to temporarily disabling enemy bots without damaging them too badly. Just gotta short circuit them long enough to allow us to hack em.

I'll let other folks weigh in on this, offer their own suggestions and ideas, but this train of thought is pretty much exactly what I wanted to encourage.

If you can think of a way to build something, or a gadget that you need, feel free to throw the idea at the wall and see if it sticks.

In this case, I'll warn you that the zap guns might be a little hard to engineer given the limited cases of that sort of working technology, but everything else seems pretty neat. Like I said, think, create, debate, and have fun. I'll weigh in on any questions you guys may have.

That's really good to know. I think that setting up channels of communications and building strong ties with our allies in this new world will be important. Encrypted communications is just good sense, in case anyone or anything is listening in.

>>1855903
I like the weapon ideas, but I think we should focus purely on speed and stealth right now. The material we have is in limited supply, and we aren't ready to start churning out battle bots yet.

Ooh can't believe I forgot to bring up Jury Rigged Gauss weapons!

All we need is some coils, a gun barrel, wiring, and a power source. This particular gauss weapon we'll be using is better known as the Coil gun.

What we need to do is combine the coils around the barrel and wire them to a power source. Can be upgraded to include some circruitry and sensors to keep give a detailed analyze of the current state of the weapon. Useful due to how unstable it will likely be. Now here is going to be the tricky part. The barrel will need to be modified and the power source needs to be rather strong. The barrel if we don't bother with rifling it needs to still be reinforced. This weapon will be best suited to a 'shotgun' effect using bits of metal as ammo and is the easiest one to make. I like to call it the Flack Cannon.

The second version will still need to have a reinforced barrel. This one will be trickier to make because we gotta create the ammo(aka the 'stakes') and rifle the barrel differently then stereotypical gunpowder weapons. This is due to the coils that propels the bullet. Ordinary barrels wont be able to strong enough and more importantly the way they are rifled is counter to what the coils will be doing. Both obviously lead to devastating consequences given the power of the weapon.

So we just gotta create our own barrels from reinforced metal into tubes. Special rifling will be required for gauss weapons we don't wanna convert into simpler shotgun versions. We will also have to create the 'stakes' which will serve as ammo for the rifle versions. Shotgun ammo will still need to created in the form of canisters carrying the bits of metal for the sake of much faster reloading. Preferably made into balls so they don't tear up the barrel nearly as bad.

Plus its gonna be heavy...like probably looking at heavy weapon tier but on the plus side it will pack one hell of a punch.

>>1855957
Zap guns are literally the simplest kind of energy weapon I could devise because all we are doing is modifying the wiring a bit and creating an outlet from our power source to...what we wanna kill. Dead simple given our robotic nature.

The second one after that is taking advantage of heat sink ceramics to create a simple melee weapon or with a bit of work to create a gun/energy weapon hybrid that shoots molten slag or vents steam into a weaponized form.

The most complicated is the above. The Coilgun. Only reason its the most 'complicated' is because its gonna require a lot jury rigging and gonna be an unstable heavy weapon. A much shittier version then the man portable 'rifles' that the brotherhood and US military had.

Frankly I don't even like calling it a coilgun because its a bit too large and bulky to be an easy to carry gun.

>>1855981
For quiet I would suggest the heatsink metal version. Steam will create some noise.

Coil gun will work to if we move fast enough to avoid letting the delayed boom give away our position.
>>
What about a thermal lance of some kind?

Either way, since we have remote hacking capabilities and our target is going to be robots, we need to concentrate on stealth.

Now I'm really regretting not going to the Museum of Living Computers. Maybe they have some StealthBoys or more quiet motors for our joints.
>>
>>1855992
Got another one.

With this one we take out a fission engine from a car. For this is gonna be rather large and bulky as well as requiring a power source.

I call it the Scrap Turret.

We build this bad boy with that notoriously explosive fission reactor from a car in the center of it. This is mostly for protecting such a critical weakness. Now its gonna look like a pile of welded scrap metal that rotates. Inside however hides the necesssary tech and brains to make it work. Circuits to create a crude brain and sensors. Metal to create body and armor. Including the hydraulics, gears, and springs to allow it to function properly. Plastics for the inner body. The ceramics for the heatsink.

The weapon it will have can vary. Even guns if we provide it ammo or even coil gauss if we modify the barrel accordingly. Most likely for the sake of logistics we are gonna wanna stick with a jury rigged energy weapon.

Think have it shoot liquid metal or steam that is boiled from its heatsink. Or the arcing of electricity from its power source by using wires and to create an outlet turned weapon.

Simple crude but deadly.

Only problem is gonna be very heavy and quite bulky, but hey if we drag some along and set them up outside or even inside. We can prepare a line of defense. If we get good enough we might even be able to create mini versions we can carry with easily.
>>1856050
Problem with the thermal lance is the vibrating function. Not to mention the difficulty of getting ceramics to that long a size without causing issues.
>>
Unfortunately, anything Jeremy would find useful for trade we also desperately need, so we probably won't be selling much to him for a while.
We could sell one of the armor and weapon sets, leaving one armor set for the David, one for a future chassis, and one suit + the leftover weapons for spare parts.
Do we know how to craft a Stealth Boy? That would be useful equipment and we wouldn't suffer the side effects from it either.
>>
>>1855903

I'll put in a vote for a heated melee weapon, that can be useful in a lot of situations, and if we can get it hot enough could be useful for construction of getting rid of troublesome crazy robots.

>>Aluminum shavings and rust we can combine to create thermite charges. Include a little bit of gunpowder in a tube with some shrapnel surrounded by the thermite and you got yourself a incendiary grenade from hell.

Also going to second the thermite idea for similar reasons, Along with the fact it should be super easy to get the necessary amount of ingredients.

>>First modify a suit of combat armor to fit the DAVID unit. Secondly modify an SMG and a shotgun to be fired one handed. We can then use the other hand to carry a shield. Take advantage of our great strength to become the unfeeling unstoppable tank full of pain we were meant to be.

Im up for fitting some temporary armor for our DAVID, but hopefully we'd be getting some higher grade stuff from this next run, so I dont think we should invest too much in it. Maybe something camoflaged to go over the outer armor?

>>If possible modify one of the eye bots to possess a multitool. Modify another eyebot to have a 'hand.'
Double Vote to create Mr. Handeye. Both the Multitool version and the Hand version would be super useful.

Other then that, I only have a few ideas for things we could use at this point. I was thinking of making some kind of powered axe type thing, something like a hydraulic or motorized power tool we could use as a weapon and for breaking through stuff with our DAVID unit. it'd take advantage of our strength, and were probably going to need something to cut through stuff considering how much stuff has collapsed, especially when we start going underground.

I was also thinking we could use some kind of wagon or carrier, considering we couldnt get the armor car out, considering we need to transport stuff. We could hook it up to Fred or the Eyebots and have them pull it assuming we wouldn't have the David to it. Maybe we could make one out of a scrapped car cab and armor it up. it'd also need to be secure and lockable since we wouldnt want someone scavenging or scavenged stuff.

I'd also suggest making a tracker and some kind of speaker or headphone for Fred along with her armor, So if she gets agitated and runs off we can find her and the speaker so we can always broadcast something to calm her down if needed.
>>
>>1855903
>>1855992
So I'll support your ideas for integrating the small arms/armor and gadgets we've found since that's well within what's here but I'm pretty sure Jeremy lacks tools for some larger more complicated items also because we're not really experienced with crafting/inventing at all and there's no blueprints (yet) to follow
>>1856112
We may be better off with traditional turrets if we're bothering to build from scratch

Believe me when I say that creating a sustained arc of electricity without a physical medium in between presents extreme logistical issues. That's why in Fallout there has only been one gun that has arced electricity directly. Gauss, laser, and plasma weapons are all easier.

If you want to launch grapnels to deliver the jolt or establish direct contact, however, the situation becomes reversed.

>>1855992
>>1856050
>>1856119

Super-heated blades and thermal grenades would be surprisingly easy to make.

>>1856118
>>1856119

Stealthboys on the other hand, are practically scientific magic, requiring very specific components you don't immediately have to hand and technical schematics that were top secret.

Gauss rifles, on the other-other hand, are something you have the schematics for. They were used in the Anchorage operation and many were sent back after the war. So, you had to know how to fix them or help officers troubleshoot.

As for the armor suits, refitting for the DAVID unit is possible, but Fred will need the other two as base materials for fitting his larger, irregularly shaped body. That means you'll be tapped out for armor to trade, but Jeremy wouldn't have wanted it regardless (I mean, he couldn't wear it or anything).

All good ideas so far, feel free to continue floating them (for now or for future plans).
>>
>>1856205
Even if we can't make T-45d power armor, what if we make something close to it?

Take a set of Combat Armor, a Gauss Rifle, a Sentry Turret (or Camera and Sensor Module), and a Mr. Handy/Eyebot flight system.
Attach the turret's targeting computer and sensors as well as the gimbal mount with the Gauss Rifle to be over the shoulder of the Combat Armor. Use the flight system and flight control software from the Eyebot/Mr. Handy to compensate for the weight of the shoulder rifle.

If you don't want the rifle to be auto-targeting and firing, it could still be used to create an equivalent of the M56 Smart Gun.

And if Sandra still doesn't want to wear a weapons harness, or we don't put it on Fred for some reason, taking the flight systems and integrating them with the Combat Armor would still give Sandra a jump pack to escape to higher ground.
>>
>>1856205
Tesla rifle and electric robot automatron weapons in fallout 4 which I noticed you been taking stuff from. I wouldn't have brought up the zap gun otherwise.

From what I could guess the biggest limitation was power restraints. It was easier to install the tesla arc weapons to a robot due to their fission batteries. Not to mention the already existing laser and plasma weapons for infantry so logistics of it would also have been a consideration.

It took a lot of jury rigging to create the tesla rifle from a robot arm and more importantly jury rig an all new kind of ammo for it. Considering how much a pain carrying around a reactor would be for a human. Not a problem for a Fallout robot on the other hand...hence I why I figured only robots were the ones packing them until Ivey created her own rifle based upon the tech.

So figured we of all AIs(robots) wouldn't have to hard a time creating a crude zap gun reliant on our own power source based upon the Tesla arm robot design in Automatron.

If we have to use a wire in order to make it easier I keep getting images of a crossbow electro bolt for some reason...

>>1856251
My only concern would be the weight of having something that big on their shoulder. Not to mention we would need to design some kind of recoil harness to help absorb the recoil. If we don't use an energy weapon that doesn't have the kick wouldn't be a problem then.

Now something like Fred wouldn't even notice the weight of it. Trick would be ensuring Fred doesn't freak out from having a gun fire automatically on top of it.

Come to think of if if someone is in power armor the weight and recoil also wouldn't really be a concern.
>>
>>1856284
>the weight of having something that big on their shoulder
Hence the repulsorlift flight system to handle the weight.
>>
>>1856284

Basically, just know that directional, electronic arc based weaponry is complicated. It was, at best, experimental science. Robots with Tesla arms are not a common occurrence in the wasteland, nor are guns that utilize electronic arcs in lieu of more conventional projectiles.

You can find schematics for it later, if you search for them, but right now, it is something you simply don't know how to build. Trust me, again, the logistics without a connective media are difficult. That's why police tasers today shoot barbs hooked to wires, and why you could theoretically stick electro-crossbows onto your eyebots.

>>1856251
>>1856284
>>1856307

You may in fact have some inkling of how to reproduce power armor, however. That was a more conventional form of technology that while labor intensive to recreate, could be possible.

Mounted weaponry on the armor's shoulder would be risky, however, as the best way to ensure that the user maintains control is to not have large shifts in momentum away from their center of mass.

Mounting weapons on Fred could be theoretically possible, though you would need to get her used to it (as you said), which would take time (and snacks).
>>
>>1856351
What about the jump pack idea?

It won't be enough for sustained flight, but it could let Sandra jump up to the top of a 4 story building in a single jump, or jump across a collapsed section of elevated highway.
Maybe even let her carry more stuff than usual by offsetting the carried weight with the repulsors.

Jump packs are one of those things that are mildly dangerous to humans. The principle mechanism for their operation in the Fallout universe is plasma thrusters, which produce significant heat.

Power armor tends to circumvent this by diffusing the heat through air based propellant while protecting the body with an insulating layer of metal.

Basically, continuous low-grade use or long term flight would be a no-go. However, you could reasonably reinforce her back and cover her legs to allow for short range, boosted jumps.

> tl;dr

You can fly more or less freely because you are small and fire resistant. You could build a jump pack for Sandra, but it would be at least fifty pounds of dead weight until such time as she needed a boost jump (up to 15 feet). It has merits, but it would also be kind of situationally useful.

You could make one hell of a power sled with that basic idea, though.
>>
>>1856351
Well having only one of the plans go bust isn't bad. Just have to replace them with crossbows and wires connected to a power supply.

...Actually crossbows would be fantastic. They are quiet and we could do an awful lot with modified bolts.

I figured mounted energy weapons like lasers would be best for the shoulder slot. Precisely due to the lack of recoil a laser weapon would possess for instance. Otherwise we would have to mess with ways to counter the recoil and weight. I don't think we can accomplish that in the short term.

>>1856643
So theoretically wouldn't a hover vehicle or sled be possible then?
>>
>>1856643
>You could make one hell of a power sled with that basic idea, though.
The other idea is a combination antigrav scooter-cargo sled-weapons platform.
Maybe two Mr. Handy thruster assemblies, or three Eyebot repulsors (for a more quiet ride) attached to an old motorcycle frame. Maybe a gauss rifle turret on the back, and a doggy sidecar for Shadow.

And building on the jump pack idea, maybe include grappling hook and line, and keep it back on the scooter for times when Sandra needs to enter a building from the roof rather than from the floor?
>>
can we crate a mini pile bunker? it would prove great for bypassing locks and/or mirelurk shells.

well, weve gota few methods, hydralics, which while a weaker method of diing it, also minimizes wear and tear and doesnt really have amuntion restrictions, or we could go with a more cumbustion based desing, useing a controled explosion to drive the spike into our target with much greater force, at the cost of having to manually retract the spike and reaplce whatever we use for the explosion. or if we wanna be really cheap, just rig up a power fist with a peice of rebar attached to it to use as a spike, horribly inefficent, and wont be very good for destroying locks, but it will still fair much better against armor

As you think through the logistics of how to create a condensed force delivery system, various thoughts of other weapons you've been considering begin to make their way in.

Hydraulics, pneumatics, and explosives all strike you as having the highest output yield possible, but they're also cumbersome. They have a limit to their given ammunition at any time, which adds weight. At the same time, they wouldn't necessarily produce a silent or heated business end. All the same, you do manage to sketch out what you think is a possible solution using pneumatics.

However, a lighter delivery system preoccupies your mind for sometime and as you sort through the components you might put into a gauss rifle, a thought does occur to you. A pile bunker is more or less just trying to drive a metallic projectile at a high velocity over a short distance. Coil based induction can do just that, while also serving as a heat source when you constrain the motion of the metal.

Building the internal core of a more conductive metal and the outer shell of a less conductive, but harder material, you could create something that drove a superheated metal point directly into your target.

The force wouldn't be quite as impressive, and eventually the heat might even begin to melt your arm, but if you created a payload ejection system...

By the end you have a functional prototype drawn out for each.

> Which to choose:
> [] The Power Fist: a conventional force application device. Heavier, but significantly higher blunt force. Can be modified with a large range of variable loadouts.
> [] The Molten Spike: an induction heated and propelled spear. Delivers less kinetic force, but compensates with a reduced area of application. Also able to achieve significantly high temperatures and can/must eject payload periodically (possibly as projectile).

To be clear, one wasn't intended to be exclusively better than the other. Both have strong merits, with the power fist offering greater impact and upgrade versatility with the downside of greater weight and kickback.

We could also attempt to send an encrypted message to certain military and research channels. The purpose not to find survivors or remnants per a say...but those like us. Experimental AI systems that may still prove to operational and probably dying of boredom or deactivated.

You've been looking through your connections on the network since you woke up to see if there are any other AI fragments presently reaching out. However, the world seems to have gone dark at this point, meaning that either all other stations have been compromised or that they are purposefully avoiding the network for some unknown reason.

Unfortunately, the Seattle mission satellite was kept fairly insular to the network. It was a smaller transmission hub meant for interconnecting your own system and the local army radios during the war effort. As such, it was never really meant to receive transmissions and information from other satellites (partly by design to avoid data tampering). This is also the reason that while you have the access codes to many secure areas, you cannot open or interact with the vast majority of them remotely.

Anyway, speaking of data, you have been picking up peculiar noise from the instrumentation on the satellite, but you aren't certain whether you can attribute that to sensor degeneration from years of neglect or some sort of powerful communication frequency overlapping your network.

As for the weapons, you can already wield a combat shotgun in one hand. No worries there. The bigger issue is actually the shield which (embarrassing as it is to admit) is taller than you are by a fair margin. You'll need to craft a smaller one. You could easily saw down the shield, though you are strong enough to wield something heavier. A pure slab of polished metal would certainly do better than polymer.

>>1857205
Eh metal shield it is then. Now all we gotta do is jury rig some body armor for our size.

I rather not use combat armor for that until we can determine how common or rare it is around here. None of the Fallout games ever agreed on that and I don't know what its gonna be like for this quest.

Plus some jury rigged armor should serve well enough.
>>
>>1857209

I can't tell you exactly how rare combat armor is, of course, but this was a militaristic city before the Great War. That means there were more suits around to start with.

Naturally, since the bombs dropped, there has been plenty of violence and very few new suits being made, resulting in that original number dwindling rather than increasing. However, clearly scavengers haven't reached everything, even now.

Were you to ask Jeremy, combat armor is something of a rarity among wasteland residents. Most use either leather or metal, with the lighter materials and advanced composites required for proper combat armor being expensive and scarce. Maybe one in twenty combatants has that luxury, which is one in every fifty people.

A major deciding factor in that is that there are only a few technologically advanced groups, such as the BoS still likely to have the knowledge of how to create ballistic fiber for kevlar. Otherwise, alloy composition is the major difference between metal and combat armor.

Incidentally, you do have that knowledge, if not the equipment, to replicate the process. Again, it's simply a matter of time.

> tl;dr It's not super-common, but you -can- find/make more in time. It's up to you whether you want to sacrifice the spare suits to give Fred the best possible protection in the meantime.

>>You could make one hell of a power sled with that basic idea, though.

Cool, Could we fold this into that wagon/cart idea put forth earlier?
>>
>>1857271

Assuming you don't want Fred driving the mystery machine, there's plenty of options. They've all got pluses and minuses, of course.

A power sled slides, but once you get off snow, you're in trouble. Think of it like a pontoon boat.

A hovercraft will float, but it'll have a lot of slip on the controls. It also can't take huge loads.

A wheeled/track vehicle will be heavy, but dependable, with the maximum load capacity.

Lets make a super deathclaw.
>>
>>1857284
Sounds like treads or wheel would be the way to go in my opinion then.

Ive been trying to think of a weapon Fred could use that would both be something a deathclaw could use, and that they couldnt already do, like slash or crush things, and I think I have an idea.
Could we build a contact based electric weapon into Fred's armor? Maybe something to go on her tail?
>>
>>1856929
Powerfist, weight is a secondary concern once you have a weapon you can trust.
>>
>>1857021
keep in mind that the Fist of The North Star is an actual weapon name, at least with Wild Wasteland on.

You honestly still don't have a perfect idea of how combat effective Fred really is, but the pile of dead ghouls you found outside the coffee shop you found her in speaks to her being pretty deadly with just her claws. Her scales just aren't impenetrable and she has a ways to go in developing her combat instincts, which can get her into some serious trouble.

As for putting a shock bat on her tail... Have you seen a dog chase its tail before? Imagine that, but Fred's tail is made of a taser.

also, question, isa high frequency blade possible? there has been sonic weapory in fallot before, so this is the logical next step

more weaponrey i wonder if we could find and jury rig together a telsa cannon and an arc thrower to crate something like the Cow mangler form tf2? basically explosive plasma blasts
>>
>>1859671
Thermic Lance in NV was technically a vibro weapon, but I am pretty sure that was the only one.

No wait Dead Money had...right those were mono knives nevermind.

>>1859700

your thinking of big MTs sonic emiiter

A thermic lance is actually a welding tool, which uses a molten steel tip as a catalyst with continuous introduction of oxygen to achieve even higher temperatures that slowly consumes the rod. It's not really a vibrating piece of technology.

That isn't to say vibrating technology isn't viable. It would just require some research in order to be able to make something more advanced/effective than a turkey knife.

>>1859688

The same general idea applies to the tesla cannon or arc thrower. In principle, the tesla cannon is a very advanced rail canon that launches condensed plasma. If you could figure out how to make a conductive wake behind the trail of that projectile, you might be able to throw an arc with it as well.

>>1859705

However, that level of super science, similar to the sonic emitter is the work of great (and partially insane minds) in many circumstances, uncommon enough to where you would need to discover the technology anew or have someone teach you.
>>
>>1859688
Depends on if the plasma weapons in this quest use microfusion cells or the plasma cartridges in 4. If its the former I could totally come up with a plasma cannon.

Proper arc weapons sadly require us finding the schematics for the lightning gun arms designs for robots. Until then we are stuck with wires. So no lightning guns until then.

Even the ghetto jury rigged zap guns require a wire projectile.

>>1859630
Sometimes when I am bored I'll stage battles by using console commands. Usually by spawning in proper teams and then having them fight each other. While i run for my life into cover so I can watch.

One time i was particularly stupid and really bored so I spawned in a bunch proper armies to fight each other in a gigantic brawl. Even my high end computer slowed down and I was stuck right in the middle...it took me like 10 tries and lot of jet to get out of the way.

It was an amazing clusterfuck though.

Next goal is to stage a proper invasion against a fortified position...
>>
>>1859712
Well shit I could of sworn the thermic lance also had a vibrating function.

>>1859705
Sadly not even the Big MT had vibro weapons.
>>
>>1859712

wow, i derped, ment to say plasma caster, not arc thrower

The thing about plasma is that in principle, it's simply a conversion of matter into an extremely high energy state, typically done from a gas since it's the nearest neighbor.

I won't pretend to understand fully how Fallout claims to have their plasma weapons work, but from my understanding, either cell type could theoretically work. Microfusion cells are essentially quick reaction, one use energy capsules that can instantaneously change a reserve of fuel into plasma. The plasma cartridges couple a more sustainable power source with a reserve of temporary fuel.

The key to all of these weapons, however, is that they are exceedingly complicated. They are in the best of times rare and prototypical, meaning that you'll likely need some introduction and education in the technology firsthand to make an honest run at replicating it.

>>1859717

Again, I'm not certain if it's because it was that complicated with the vibrating weapons (once more pointing back to the turkey knife). I think it's just that the stylistic choice for the setting was something more visceral, like the ripper.
>>
another idea, more for utility, a small electromagnet, that we can use for fishing for small bits of scrap and other magnetic objcets.
>>
>>1859731
For my idea to create a plasma cannon a proper plasma cartridge is vital in order to make it much easier to pull off. Otherwise we'll have to do it the hard way by basing it on the Tesla Cannon and the plasma caster.

Not that i couldn't come up with a way to make it work but would be SO much easier if there were proper plasma cartridges involved. Not to mention not taking nearly as long to develop a working model.

>>1859736
One of the things I considered was using electromagnets to hold armor plates. The idea being that by deactivating the magnets you could ditch armor that was in terrible condition easily and install fresh armor plating near instantly.

Sadly that kinda trick would only be able to work with robots due to their inborn power source...or vehicles too for that matter.
>>
>>1859749
eh I suppose when I get down to it...

Its a matter of doing the plasma cannon the easy way or the hard way, but even relying on the easy way. It's not like its something we can do anytime soon.
>>
also, question, do we have alternate vision modes, like say infered or Night vison?

>>1859755

Fair warning. The bigger the plasma bolt, the more difficult it will be to successfully engineer. That's why the more common variants of the plasma pistol and the plasma rifle fire relatively small blasts (which are still quite powerful and effective).

>>1859736

That's actually something very simple, but also very useful. Not a bad inclusion for an adventure pack.

>>1859756

And yes, you do. Both you and the eyebots have both that and normal vision.
>>
Ah, I had an idea for something we could use: Could we make some kind of animal Lure? itd be useful for a distraction or to get anything in the area in one place for extermination, while also having that place be somewhere we are not..
Im thinking something like a series of firecrackers, or a speaker or air horn if we could work it, maybe with some burning dog food added for smell?
>>
>>1860241

that would onlywork if we train fred to ignore it
>>
>>1860445
As far as training to avoid a very specific lure, that'd probably be relatively simple. we'd have to test it too anyway.
