The Raiders – Part 30

To say that you have the attention of the elves present in this room would be incorrect.

This is not really a shock to anyone involved because having a massive dragon crashing through your ceiling and inflicting blindness upon anyone within her area of influence because she is the draconic representation of every sun in the universes pretty much demands all attention everywhere forever. Which is just fine by you. Blinded and panicked enemies are enemies that aren't hurling eldritch fire, sorcerous enchantments, terrible curses, enchanted arrows, or mystical spears at you.

Your Cadre has dismounted – or in two cases, been set down – and you are all using Yzia to protect you from one side of enemies. With three exits and around twelve to sixteen or so living and unblinded elves around you, you have a number of options to take. Two things are on your side at the moment: one, the scouts and spies you passed were almost universally blinded by the passage of Yzia; two, she's killed almost a dozen elves just upon landing and a few tail-swipes and wing beats. So it you eliminate everyone in this room, you'll have bought a significant amount of time.

Auena is already ensuring Yashi is close by and protected, while the others immediately form a wall between the elves and Yashi, using Yzia as a bulwark to make their stand with. That's strictly temporary; they're expecting you to provide as much guidance as they can stand. Within reason of course – they are githyanki after all.

A sweep of the room with your Arcane Sight augmented eyes tells you plenty. There are three wizards, two priests (you're not absolutely certain what gods they represent, but elves are all warriors regardless) and three who are definitely warriors. This you presume because of the magical equipment they wear combined with styles of clothing. The others, though armed, are not nearly as armored, nor do they sport the equipment and magical tools and weapons of the warrior castes. You are not actually what they are called here, so 'castes' works fine for now.
>>
The main issue are the casters, of course. The warriors a close second. The guards at the doors – at two of the three doors – are included in the warriors. In a room that is fifty feet around with lots of now-shattered glass windows in addition to the crushed and splintered ceiling, it gives you a goodly amount of space to work with. Hasted as you all are, there is nothing to stop you from sending your people into their midst for slaughter.

Akko, like all her kind, has a measure of psychic ability. She will simply use most of these powers without prompting, instinctively, when appropriate. Her spells are another matter.
>She is a high ranking Gish, and may give orders to low ranking Knights; mid-ranked Warriors; high ranking Spellcasters, Skulkers, and Murderers; and any Gish lower ranked than herself.
>True Silver Sword: Siobhan
Siobhan offers her opinions and advice on matters when a vote is called for, drawing on Akko's potent intellect and voicing subconscious thoughts for her to consider.
>Current Spell Selection
Slaver Set Enhanced (Marauder) – heavy subdual and mass combat, moderate utility, moderate defense/buffs + a few really destructive spells.

>Current Cadre:
Yzia:Yzia: Mythic Solar Dragon, lover and companion. She may carry Akko and five others.
Falna: Mid-ranked Warrior (Unstable position); Class:Slayer, bound by Oath.
>Silver Sword: Malnae
Yashi: High-ranked Illusionist (Your Spellcaster); Class: Illusionist Wizard, Bound by Oath.
>notSilver Sword: Fehr Vaed
Tzanzi: High-ranked Murderer (First in Command); Class: Pureblade Slayer, Bound by Oath and Friendship.
Auena: Mid-ranked Gish (Yzia's new quarry); Class: Psychic Warrior, Bound by Oath.
Schechei:: Mid-ranked Gish (mated to Falna); Class: Magus, Bound by Oath
>Silver Sword: Tiagothe
Kteine: Mid-ranked Gish (your adoptive daughter and acolyte); Class: Psychic Warrior, bound by Oath
>Silver Sword: Achris

>Akko's Current Supreme Leader
Dunzamn, a Lord Knight with a True Silver Sword (Voorsi), leader of the Raid upon the Elven and Human Kingdoms of Iridaiya and Boggsteading, respectively.
>His dragon companion Jacinth, whose true name is an unknown, and is an ancient creature.

Rolled 6, 4 + 2 = 12 (2d6 + 2)

[X] You'll take the two wizards that are close together, Tzanzi can take the other, all others to concentrate on warriors. Yashi on Crowd Control.

You make a single sharp gesture and a vicious hiss, and Tzanzi moves light liquid fire, a dark flicker of movement that ends in high pitched screams. The others scatter, as Yzia lashes her tail, amused at the cries of agony and pain, snapping bones and crushing flesh. Technically her duty is done, and she is no more required to fight at your sides than she is to enjoy the pleasure of your company, but as she has done for centuries she assists in small, vital ways.

The gesture is accompanied by an impression of your desire, and the others work to make that desire a reality. But first and foremost is Yashi's duty: crowd control. Her powers are potent and subtle, and the powerful visualization that she communicates with, those sharp, clear, near perfect images that her telepathy carries are a hideous weapon when combined with the spells that are her caste's namesake. Auena stays close to her; Yashi's expansive, sweeping gestures are made in silence, her eyes wide and bright.

Prepared as you are, the illusion is still breathtaking in it's simplicity and intensity: she makes everything look almost exactly the same. The differences are subtle and minute, leading those under her influence to believe the corridors are blocked by debris and darkness, concealing your true numbers by adding warriors assaulting the blind and already injured, and otherwise keeping everyone occupied and focused on here and now. Even the blind are influenced by the powerful weaving; the smell of blood and tang of mercury and cinnabar is enhanced by her illusion, Yzia's scent sharp and threatening.

Your quarry are a male and female elf couple off to one side. They had been involved in some kind of tryst or discussion, and before they can do anything at all you're there, Siobhan a dark blur. The malle tries to raise his rod in defense, but you smash through the flimsy defense and him with the force of a falling dragon. Much like said falling dragon you crush him, Siobhan's song a frenzied shriek in your mind as you plow through his meager defenses and render him nearly unconscious. As it stands, he's bruised and his ribs are broken. The femme raises her staff, a long delicate thing of white wood and bearing a dark beryl at the tip, which flashes in response to her power.

It occurs to you that if you kill or incapacitate everyone in this room you will have more time to search for the childer.

[X] Kill them both – no mercy for spellcasters, they're too dangerous.

You whip Siobhan around with the same kind of ease that most people keep reserved for surgical knives or juggling blades, crushing the malle's skull and killing him with the second blow. She manages to move out of the way of the backhanded assault, her staff lifting as she nearly completes the spell. You step into her with grace and ease, and run Siobhan's blunted tip through her heart despite that, ending the magic she never finished as she looks startled at the presence of two and a half feet of alien metals through her body, preventing heart and lungs from moving.

So very sorry, elfling; you are simply too dangerous to let live,” you murmur to her sweetly in her native done as her large, glassy eyes of green tinged obsidian glaze over in death. She expires silently, and you slide Siobhan free. The Silver Swords that tie your minds together, strengthening the bond of your Cadre's minds as a whole, inform you that the other wizard is dispatched already, as are the guards. Two of the remaining elves are running towards you, while one of the clerics casts Dispel Magic, attempting to bring down at least come of your defenses in a futile display of prayer and pleading with his deity.

The shimmering burst of silver light that explodes from around you doesn't even cause your thickly layered spells to tremble, of course, and you casually sweat aside the longsword that an unarmored malle lunges at you with; he's no warrior, and he's thrown badly off balance by your casual backhand, your glassy bracer emitting golden sparks as the metal strikes the magical field they generate. The very lightly armored femme is slightly less successful at her attempt, the elegantly recurved blade she uses a flexible design of elven make that Siobhan almost sneers at in the midst of her song when you parry it.

The horror in their eyes as you look at them with casual disinterest is gratifying, but otherwise unremarkable. Your acolytes could slaughter these without a thought.

[X] Have Yzia capture an elf for interrogation and just slaughter everything in your path.
[X] Render them unconscious and then move on to the priests.

It perhaps says something about you that you enjoy tormenting these two elves nearly as much as you would enjoy fighting elven warriors that could potentially kill you. You lay the malle out with a single blow, rendering him unconscious instantly, and then sweep the femme's legs from under her and place your booted heel against her chest, both trapping her and leaving her unable to breathe. You let her struggle to inhale, and she watches in horror as you casually grab her blade and yank it from her hands by the back of the blade and fling it away, using it to kill another elf before he has the chance to strike Schechei from behind.

Schechei, hearing the so8und of blade piercing flesh and bone, turns and watches the elf fall down dead, and you smile sweetly, incling you head to her. She flushes, but looks grateful rather than angry; pleasing you even further as she returns to the bloody work ahead of her.

You let her struggle helplessly beneath your foot as you locate a likely candidate. My love, if you would be so kind as to hold that priest who just summoned the angelic being you just casually turned back into ephemera, I would like to interrogate him. She acquiesces and steps on him, much as you do with the pretty elven woman who is ineffectually gasping for breath beneath your heel.

Taking your foot from the elf's chest, she draws huge, gasping breaths, and rolls over, trying to crawl away from you, unable to get to her hands and knees even. You take a single stride and catch up to her, crouching and grabbing her long, silken locks, rich and dark as the wood of the great tree you stand within. She grips your wrist with both hands as you haul her to her knees, and turn her to face you.

Pretty little thing, tell your lords and ladies that we have their childer, safe and protected.” Her eyes grow wide and she makes a soft, low whine deep in her throat. “They will be held safe and protected – mostly – until they negotiate a ransom for us.” Large, bright tears, almost crystalline looking, seep from her beautiful green tinged eyes. You bring her close and whisper to her in her lilting tongue. “Though if any are as pretty as you, I may keep one for my very own to play with, pretty.

She starts to say something but you set Siobhan down and cover her nose and mouth with your gauntlet, and simply wait, watching her struggle to prise your hand free. You look into her terrified eyes as she loses consciousness, letting her breathe just as she passes out, leaving her unconscious and alive.
>>
You lay her down and rise....then begin the dark work, slaughtering everything else alive in the room, dispatching blind and helpless (at least in your eyes) alike. Some of them even run towards you, Yashi's illusion giving you the appearance of a safe haven, an elven warlord that is there to protect them. Those die in horror and despair as you give the lie to the illusion, which Yashi finds incredibly exciting; you suspect she's going to suffer from battle lust after this.

The priest Yzia has captured trembles under the dragons talons, struggling ineffectually against her magnificence. You walk over, barely spattered with blood from the slaughter, and kneel next to him. “I want you to understand. The questions I ask are to your benefit to answer, because they will be answered anyways. I am asking them, because your answers will mean the difference between a wholesale slaughter and a precise, surgical strike. Do you understand, priest?” The others are already collecting some small amount of treasures from the dead and unconscious, and you gesture, telling Tzanzi you want the femme alive to deliver your ultimatum. She agrees, and organizes the other Cadre members into a murder team, and they dispatch all the others.

I will tell you nothing of use, monster – I will go to my god and leave you bereft of that which you seek. He stops struggling and looks at you, defiance shining in his glassy eyes of dark brown obsidian.

It's a relatively simple principle, I mean if we don't leave anyone alive how is anyone supposed to know to pay the ransom?

I don't know about that, elves could be made of stern stuff.

I just don't really think our power is the thing he's having trouble parsing.

Also I kind of question the effectiveness of torture on someone whose god a: exists, b: is at least vaguely aware of that person's existence, and c: might have afterlife rights to that person.

Though with that logic, I think we might have erred in leaving a holy man as the last one alive.

His resistance has real meaning here. Delays cause us to expend resources, and if we cannot be stopped allow them time to kill the children.
>>
[X] Perhaps you didn't understand....I don't need this information, it will help your people survive this. Diplomacy
[X] Write in? Yzia can allow him up. He's no more a threat to you than any of these.

You apologize to Siobhan for disappointing her, but you would rather have him able to communicate effectively. You soothe her by promising her a REAL fight shortly, which mollifies her quite a bit.

I believe there is a miscommunication. I do not need this information. We will find the places you keep your young easily enough without your help. I am asking you this because I have no interest in the wholesale slaughter of your people.” You gesture to Yzia and she removes her claw from his chest, and you grip his chain mail by the shoulder and easily haul him to his feet. Siobhan whispers a soft, threatening song audibly, and it doesn't just frighten him – Kteine is baring her spurs and Auena makes a moue of her mouth, huffing softly.

With a gesture you indicate the slaughter around him and he turns pale. “Aside from you, there is only one other living elf in this room, and she lives solely to deliver my message. If I wish to torture you, it will be solely for my own amusement, not because I wish to draw information from you.” He pales, and his green-tinted skin becomes slightly more dark in the cheeks. “If you direct me to the places where you keep your young, it will pit us against the strongest of your kind as well as remove the need for killing your people – and they will all die if they come up against us.
>>
You step back and gesture to Tzanzi. She glances at him and then steps up. He goes to step away byt Schechei and Kteine are there, behind him and to either side, and he glances back at the twins, their disturbing visage unnerving him further. Tzanzi grips his hauberk in both hands and tears it asunder, easily peeling him out of his chain-mail and the padding beneath, the sweat stained silk beneath smelling of hyacinth and lavender.

His expression is priceless.

You deity would be better served if you live. We have no interest in your people aside from ransoming back your young to you. Give us what we want to know and the only ones who need to die are your true warriors and war-wizards.” You step close and look at him calmly. Or shall I have the dragon tear what we desire out of your mind?

Yashi steps up – but not close, staying well out of weapon reach of the elf – and speaks in that sensual voice of hers. “I can find what we wish to know, Leader.” the elf shudders and looks away from her, his arousal quickly evident. Apparently it affects other species far worse than it does githyanki, and it affects you just fine.

He grins his teeth and then whispers softly, “Take the door there. Follow the corridor to the end. When you can go down, then do so. If you cannot go down, go to your right. The crèche you seek is there.” He turns to you, his eyes filled with a hatred that you know very well indeed. You are his enemy from this moment forward.

[X] Tell him that isn't the crèche you want - you want the ones where their leaders children are.
[X] Render him unconscious, and go on your way.

You give him a gesture of third degree understanding and first degree contempt, and he stares at you, shocked that you know the nonverbal parts of his language as well as the verbal. “I want to know where the leaders of your people keep their young. Or at least where the leader of this enclave of elves keeps their children. I do not imagine you would be so foolish as to keep all of them in a single place.

You would never dare,” he says, his horror and shock palpable.

Tzanzi and Yzia laugh, and even Falna snorts. “You cannot imagine what she would dare, elf,” the latter informs him with utter derision, and you incline your head at the compliment. Which probably wasn't meant as one.

He grits his teeth and you hiss softly in resignation. You gesture to Yashi and she intones the spell, and a dozen tiny orbs rise from her palms, and shoot down the doorways. You watch his eyes and his body alike; he can lie well, but his body tells you much more. “I am a thoroughly unreasonable creature, and I do not like that you are not being as helpful as I need you to be for your people's sake..” He starts to protest, but you cut him off sharply. “I am finished with you.” You lift Siobhan.

He gives you a second degree gesture of contempt. “Like all monsters, you are predictable.

You look at him blandly. “Oh, I have no intention of killing you. I suspect you will eventually destroy yourself as the knowledge of what you have done for me eats you alive.” He glares at you, but the undercurrent of fear is deep. You slam Siobhan into his gut and he keels over; and overhand chop to his back renders him utterly unconscious. Leave this one and the femme alive. They will deliver our message.

Turning you gesture. Tzanzi scouts, and this you accompany with a gesture to tell her so, as well as explaining the other's positions. Replenish your spells. Falna, vanguard, Yzia, please follow us. Schechei, ahead right, I will be left; Auena, follow Yashi, guide her when she is receiving information. They perform as you desire, without protest; Falna is especially pleased you have her as vanguard as opposed to taking that role yourself, salving her pride.

In truth it is because you prefer to be close to Yashi as she receives intelligence concerning the hive.
>>
It isn't long at all before Yashi receives her first orb. He told the truth, there is a crèche nearby. There are fifteen elves guarding the way, three groups of five. There is also a runner prepared some distance from the third group, with them in sight. You don't have to guess as to his purpose. The first group is ten body-lengths away, and set up for an ambush.

You pause and gesture to the walls a short distance ahead. I suspect this will become a wall, here, when heave passed, and that side tunnels will be closed off as well, to back us into a corner.

“Well, if they wish to trap themselves inside with us, so much the better,” Tzanzi murmurs, startling the acolytes and Auena. Yashi is used to it already; Tzanzi can read you like a book, and that is exciting in a special way. You glance at the acolytes and notice they are showing signs of battle lust as well. You're not terribly surprised, of course; this is their first true measure as fully githyanki.

The wood\ closes in, growing from the walls and closing behind you as your Arcane sight and tactical experience suggested. You gesture, sending your cadre along the walls, and then you and Falna step forward, turning the corner. Falna catches the first arrow; your defenses are impenetrable to the three that strike you. You lift Siobhan and charge into the trio of archers, two of whom toss aside their bows and the third of whom kneels to prepare another volley. The two behind them are wizards, it is obvious; one gestures with an gnarled grey staff while his companion murmurs softly while holding her crystalline stave.

This promises to be a much better fight....

Thank you for Reading and Playing. I hope top continue tomorrow night, but with as much difficulty as I am having, it may be unlikely.

To explain battle lust....well....

After a proteacted fight githyanki want to mate. Badly. It is a natural response, and it will often reveal a true sexual preference for the githyanki involved - Akko, unsurprisingly, prefers her slaves or Yzia, making her an actual xenophile. Tzanzi prefers women, but it is entirely possible that Yashi may want a male. Likewise, it will be interesting to see what Kteine will want; Falna and Schechei, of course, will be all over each other. Auena is unpredictable as well, though more because she was previously a virgin, which leads to interesting speculation as to how she dealt with her battle lust, if she's experienced it before.

I am now going to curl up and toss and turn in bed before sleeping. Thank you for your patience, and I should have better updates next week.

Any questions will be answered in about 6-9 hours.

Is this something the Illithids bred in for kicks, or is it more the result of the Githyanki's own eugenics?
>>
>>1840822
It was intensified by the illithid, but dominance fights before sex are native to the githyanki eugenics - it's not uncommon in most group based ambush predators.

About how powerful are the elves best warriors and wizards assumed to be? I mean on the one hand they're pretty immortal and don't have a paranoid quasi-deity who at least seems to want to crush anyone who gets too strong/smart, on the other maybe the peculiarities of the elf life cycle make them super-likely to plateau?

Also, can elven childer be trained into being Githyanki or is there something intrinsic that makes that not work/it does work but it's too much of a time sink to really be worth it?

I hope the elves will manage to buy back all their childers. Doubt it'll happen, but eh.

The good thing is that Akko would most likely be completely uninterested by the childers in themselves, but be very interested in how valuable they are and how challenging getting them is.

Their absolute best, of which the githyanki presume no more than five or six in the entire enclave, are believed to be/usually 16-18th level, and usually expected to be wizards or gish of some sort; druids usually end up in the 14-16 range, for some reason (the higher level ones tend to be out of the enclave). Sometimes a ranger or slayer will be in the higher echelon as well. Clerics of that high a level are rare - they tend to be too flighty to achieve that high a level and remain in a single enclave. Akko is expecting to run into at least three very high level elves in this first raid alone; she expects that any creche they find will be evacuated and turned into a death trap upon their leaving it.

Compare this to the 10-20 15+ level warriors, slayers, gish, and antipaladins in an average githyanki stronghold, with the highest caster levels being 12-14 for wizards and illusionists at best regardless of how many casters there are.

It is entirely possible to turn a very young elven childer into githyanki, but it takes a supreme amount of dedication. The slow maturation of elven childer, combined with the shorter githyanki lifecycle means that you can't simply place them in the astral and train them - their brains won't learn anythign because their physiology is stopped while in the astral. You would have to keep them in a growing demiplane, and it would take five or six githyanki spending decades teaching the elven childer to be githyanki. Lacking the mindset of elves and the supreme patience elves have would make it difficult, and the githyanki penchant for violence would be detrimental to the training process.

You would effectively end up with drow, instead of elves.

>>1841914
The githyanki are entirely expecting them to buy them all back (save the few that will be kept as slaves, no more than 10-15 at absolute best, given that would require capturing over 100-150 elves, which is very unlikely). Remember, the githyanki don't want wealth as much as they want resources such as foodstuffs, wood, stone, metal, building materials, cloth, and other things that would be relatively easy for the elves to obtain in comparison. The gthyanki aren't unreasonable in their demands, only in the amount of violence they use to make them.

Akko is interested in them, but not really as sex slaves unless they're almost adults, and that only because it would be a collorary to why she is interested in them at all. That would be her interest in training them to be githyanki and molding their mind, seeing what would happenif they were trained as githyanki. Unlike the average githyanki, she wouldn't mind taking 50-60 years and training an elven childer into a githyanki (or drow) over that course of time, just to see what happens. If she did come across one that is within 5-10 years of adulthood, then she might experiment with sexual training/experience to see what happened, but by then most of the brain is formed and it might not take.

That's very informative, thank you. But speaking of Drow, are they just as impossible to enslave as standard elves, or does their tendency towards dystopian cultures make them easier to get the message?
>>
>>1842111
They can be enslaved like anyone else, but because of their severe penchant for violence and disobedience, they almost always become githyanki. Most of them find githyanki culture to be even more comfortable than their own culture, since there is neither a deity interfering with their lives, and the behaviors they are used to aren't required for advancement, only helpful for advancement.

For all the same reasons sociopaths do well in the executive world, drow do well in the githyanki culture. It is very hard on them when they have the talent for magic, unfortunately - Vlaakith is even more involved in the githyanki culture than lolth would be in drow cultures.
>>
>>1842155
That's pretty neat, and yeah Vlaakith is mostly uninvolved in Githyanki culture, until suddenly she isn't.
>>
>>1842183
Vlaakith is ALWAYS involved.
>>
>>1842190
That does kind of seem to be the impression I got, but I'm a bit confused by
>since there is neither a deity interfering with their lives
and
>Vlaakith is even more involved in the githyanki culture than lolth would be in drow cultures
Is the difference that Vlaakith isn't quite a deity, or is it that her involvement, though omnipresent if you look close enough, isn't as heavyhanded and overt as Lolth tends to be, and thus doesn't usually qualify as "interfering"?
>>
>>1842218
The way Vlaakith interferes isn't to maintain the society structure in the face of self destructive behavior, but to maintain the githyanki on their course of murderign all illithids. Drow society is a theocracy in every way shape or form. Githyanki culture is a meritrocracy run by an overlord who makes sure you're planning to eliminate the illithid threat.

Vlaskith is always involved - but she isn't concerned by mthodology, worship, or maintaining an antfarm so much as she is blatantly saying 'kill iillithids, and I don't care whatever else you may do".
>>
>>1842334
Well, "Kill all Illithids but don't reach a level of power that could conceivably threaten me even if that could also enable you to be better at killing Illithids" Or at least, that's what the Githyanki believe

She's into that, but also has recently begun experimenting kissing girls (and liking it).
>>
>>1844718
Unfortuately I feel it would be quite conceited (on Akko behalf) to think that experiment only started recently.
>>
>>1839519
How lewd is this quest?
>>
>>1848660
Between bloody fights, strongarm diplomacy, and psychic terror, pretty much lewd. It's not got a long archive list. They haven't found any males they were interested in, though the dragon threatened to become one...right after the MC threatened to do so.
