Come One, Come All; Welcome to ANOTHER ICARUS RISING QUEST

I am your humble QM, Weaver!

“We have to go, Yang.” You tell her quietly and for a moment you see a flash of something in her eyes before she nods and rolls off of you. Sitting up you do your best to bury the feelings of slight disappointment you feel at the loss of her presence before walking to the other side of the room to retrieve Ariadne.

Slipping the compact weapon to your back you look to see Yang and give her a nod, to which she only replies with a grin.

“Race ya.” She says with a wink, and by the time your brain realizes what she said she’s bolted out the door.

Test...

You almost charge after her but realize that you’re in the perfect place and instead run for the window. Pulling a cartridge from your coat you pull the bolt on the compressed Ariadne and slip it in the chamber. As you leap through the window you pray to god that you did in fact load a blank cartridge as you squeeze the trigger. A loud ‘BANG’ rockets from the gun, as a gout of gas combusts in a small plume just outside the window. The muscles in your chest tighten as your body is pushed faster away from the window and further towards the Academy’s main building.

You grin down at Yang as she pushes open the doors to the outside of the dormitory before the effect of gravity started pulling you down. Slipping Ariadne to your back you tuck yourself into a roll as you hit the ground, your Aura soaking the actual impact as you get back to your feet and sprint; The Blonde bomber not far behind.

>>
>>1833893

You can hear Yang yelling gods-know-what at you as you sprint ahead. You push whatever she had to say to the back of your mind as you continue to weave and avoid the crowds of students. Glancing down at your scroll you’ve another three minutes until class starts and at the rate you’re moving you’d make it well before then. You give out a laugh as you look behind you to mock Yang, but but that was your mistake.

Your eyes meet hers and the playful race rapidly becomes a life or death competition as she pushes herself harder, her gauntlets extending before a shell slams into the ground behind her, blasting her towards you. You can’t even stop the gulp and panicked “Yang!” as you rush desperately into the Academy, Yang right behind you. Students panic and hug the locker covered walls as the two of you rush through the halls, paper and dust kicking up at the speed.

You barely turn the corner at the speed you’re moving at, your brace screeching against the polished tile. Your heart thunders as blood rushes from your lungs to the rest of your body, filling you with every precious bit of air you can take; And mentally you curse your brace, as thanks to it you were barely keeping ahead of the running Blonde behind you. Yet as you look down the hall you see it! Your salvation, your victory!

The door to Professor Port's class!
This is it; The final stretch of the race. Just a straight dash from where you were now and you’d claim victory over Yang. The only thing you worry about now is the sound of her footsteps and how close you get with each step. No more shortcuts, no more obstacles; Just you, her and that big oaken finish line. You dump the last of what little Aura you were willing to expend and feel yourself reinvigorate.

She’s right beside you now as you lock eyes you share an unspoken agreement: May the best huntsman win.

You’re within only a few feet when both you and her lunge for the door and for the briefest moment your hands brush but you push ahead and with a firm grip on the handle you let out a cheer of victory.

Only for you to be ploughed into by the rest of Yang's body. Leaving both of you in a heap in front of Port’s desk as the bell rings.

You look between each other, but just as either of you are about to laugh about the scenario the booming laughter of Prof. Port fills your ears.

“Ho-ho! How happy I am to see such dedication to huntsman training! Fighting one another to class, what a fantastic way to train! Unfortunately I do not teach the combatives program, so please. Ms. Xaio-Long, Mr. Ferrum. To your seats!” He says, the bemused smile never leaving his moustached face.

You nod to the portly professor before getting to your feet, dusting off your jacket before climbing up the stairs to the rest of your team. Sliding in beside Jaune you nod to him, to which he returns. He looks at you for a moment and as Port begins to get into the finer points of Beowulfs you nod your head to the man. As much as you may want to talk to the teen, he was the one who would probably benefit from the man’s lectures the most.

As the rest of the class begins to listen to (or drown out) the man’s words you instead slip out your scroll. Looking over your projects you see there is plenty of work for improvement on a few projects, as well as still needing to figure out the teams for the four missions that you were scheduled to do that weekend.

You pull up the project files for Samson, which was perhaps the most radical of your current projects. It would be at least, in part a rejection of your humanity; Not in a literal sense, but a conceptual one. The major steps would involve the further miniaturization of the internal components to allow for devices to be installed directly into your arms. The benefits to this were obvious, as they allowed you to carry a number of modules directly by using the hollow space. Khrone also was determined to install a “Pilebunker” whatever that was.

The current issue was not so much the material as it was finding a way to ensure they wouldn’t be knocked free on impacts.

You are surprised at how quick you lose yourself in the notes, taking subtle peeks at the new Advanced Dust Theory it becomes clear to you that there was a potential answer to your current problem. In fact just a few days ago you had formulated a solution in the form of Project Prometheus, in the form of a sustained plasma reaction created through fire, wind and energy dust. Looking over the notes if you were to suspend the reaction in an electromagnetic field you could use the energy to power the systems in your arms entirely. That fact was something you hadn’t at first considered from Prometheus, near infinite power for relatively low cost.

Yes you would still need to refuel it, but it was the difference between days and years; Which was an incredible leap forward.

With those notes complete, the rest of your notes danced into place, leaving you with a complete possible schematic for a new prosthetic making use of this new Prometheus prototype system that you tentatively called “Apollo”. Closing out the documents on both you realized that only half of the class had gone by, which meant that while Port continued to go on about the Vulpine Grimm and what they were capable of, you still had time to tinker.

I have a project proposal: creation of superconductors using Ice Dust. A. This would allow us to create wires with 0 resistance to move around the electricity generated making sure not a lot of heat is generated with the massive power supply, also no loss in electricity. B. This will allow us to create a bunch of other stuff like from rail guns, to levitation or attraction, and even the ability to cool things down.
My proposed name is Project Skadi if that isn't taken.

The name isn't taken, and the idea is awesome, just one question. How and what do we attach the tech to if we finish it? Do we soup up our arms, or do we make a railgun attachment to our new magnum pistol we still need to build? Because the idea of a fuck you rail gun in the palm of our hands sounds like Han Solo scene just waiting to happen.

>>1836240

Welcome to the Lucy development Team. Feel free to keep coming up with cool and impressive shit. Two brains are better than one after all
>>
>>1836247
I'll leave that up to you guys, I was just thinking of several ideas though.
A. New set of weapons the main one is long range Luci could use two wires to attach to the weapon in long range mode resulting in fuckyou huge explosions but eliminating his melee ability. Obviously the side arm would have to make up for this.
B. One arm goes full Guts and he puts in a railgun cannon in it.However, due to the shorter barrel it won't have as much accuracy, but you can have a larger bore.
C. Actually I don't remember C so anyone else can come up with something.

Overall the tech is used for the facilitation of moar tech. We take the "Dust Fusion Reactor™" and are able to supply massive amounts of power for one. Two we are able to use "Really Fucking Powerful Magnets™" It's like unlocking a new tech tree, rather than a single tech. The main thing would be the superconductive wires and components which can be traded out immediately for various benefits. The cooler stuff needs unlocked though.
>>
>>1836260
Thank you

I might not be good at other things, but what I can do is come up with some ridiculous shit. I probably a bit like Ruby as far as my enthusiasm when it comes to that.

That reminds me you'll be able to use superconductors to create a really powerful magnetic shield to store the "Dust Fusion Reactor."
>>
>>1836258
What? I just said that would be awesome. Did you miss the part where I said lets make a pistol size railgun so we can act like Han Solo...actually, side autism question, does Remnant have a Star Wars equivalent? It is necessary information for future puns.
>>1836262
Well, what if we take the energy system and make a cover arm to add on to our already bad ass arm. Any one remember that Brigg's soldier from Full Metal Alchemist that has the giant grizzly chainsaw claw arm? We need more rip and tear options when our guns break/get knocked away from us.
>B. One arm goes full Guts and he puts in a railgun cannon in it.However, due to the shorter barrel it won't have as much accuracy, but you can have a larger bore.
Never fucking mind, lets go full Guts and have Yang break our shit so we can make a giant claymore...unless we give Mars a shave and a new arm and make him use it.

5e is a bard's playground.
>>
>>1836283
True, plus you can fuck anything like a manslut as a Bard, which leads to more fun times when the kids come to visit. Which reminds me, we have a fucking huge team, we need communication gear that shielded from jamming. What could we do to make solid communication lines?
>>
>>1836289
Depends on what you want. Shielded lines so that they couldn't be jammed magnetic shielding would be the best. On the other hand given the wireless signals the real issue is people picking up your communication so cryptography is the solution.

Luckily quantum computers need really fucking cold temps to work so you'd need to unlock superconductors. After that you'd need probably Khrone to help you unlock qubit cryptography cause that shit will mean nobody in Remnant will be able to hack your comms for billions of years.

You know, I wouldn't be surprised if Khrone and Lucy made a secret language to communicate while traveling abroad. I bet we could use that and make each other team create separate secret languages the team knows, and then combine bits and pieces to make the main crypt. Maybe even something like pic related when out in the field. Go full secret agent on this shit.
>>
>>1836314
Given that real life humanity has already digitized things like Chinese, it'd be technically possible to create a Cuneiform like language that only the Cadre's scrolls could read..

I'd still prefer overall message encryption rather than obfuscation

As long as the teams can have a private conversation at the end of the day, while being unable to be interrupted, then our job is done. Message encryption would be great, but the tech required to make that a permanent feature without someone finding it would be a few more steps than necessary, when obfuscation can be done over the weekend, on top of being interchangeable. Remember, Neo wants that D...or wants to cut it off, ice cream girl is weird. We might not know shapeshifting semblances are a thing yet, but being paranoid is a great thing. Maybe make word traps to make sure if we're really us or something.
>>
>>1835720
As you look over the mission briefings you do your best to rationally parse out what basic information you can on the missions.

The First mission you look over is the Skaver infestation in the sewers, You know from your time spent wandering about that Skaver’s usually group of Broods anywhere from twenty to fifty members. They were honestly a very unique form of Grimm, even if weak because they were highly sociable. In your time in the wilds it was not uncommon to find numerous Broods forming communities not unlike those of humans, with food and other resources shared between them, and forming great hordes to defend one another.from harm.

Another thing you are wary of, knowing these beasts is that the being in the sewers would be to their advantage, as in the narrow confines of the sewer tunnels many longer reach weapons would be ad a disadvantage; as the tunnels would only allow for a few individuals abreast and even you would be a tight fit into the seven foot high tunnels.

The Search and Destroy and Recon missions were far simpler, as it was more a study of what Grimm one would most likely encounter near the forever fall and beyond the walls of Vale. All and all the two missions would more than likely be the easiest of the four. This was due to the fact that a police report would be a simple thing, or at least you believed so.

In all honesty you had little faith in the policing of Vale itself.

With all the information set aside you look at the four teams and start to look into who might work best.

Right gents, here are my thoughts on the matter.

within CADRE we already have several layers in terms of organization and hierarchy, namely that of Teamleaders, 'teams' and partners.

I would suggest that we keep at least two of those intact for the missions.
On one hand keeping the partners intact gives us 8 pairs that know each other well and can work together (avoiding issues like putting teams together that hasn't work with each other much or even at all)

The fact that the four teamleaders are just that, not putting Us, Mars, Cardin and Ruby in charge of a team each would undermine them right away

>>
>>1836650
She can only punch stuff, and so long as she only fires when hitting a target, it theoretically should be still standing by the end of the mission. Honestly, if we made out pistol and can have it use slugs and shells, we could go instead.
>>
>>1836682
She could also get angry and accidentally cause cave in's from punching something. We know how freakishly strong she is
>>
>>1836687
True, we don't really have many to do that job do we? What about just using Cardin's team to do it. Its relatively simple after all, plus the idea of rat catcher Cardin is funny too me. And I don't think they have anything to destructive to cause a cave in. Besides, why would we send Mars down there? Fucker uses a claymore... well he did until we broke it. Have we actually got him new equipment yet or has the guy be going around unarmed?

>>
>>1836884
I will respond even tho you should remember that your vote does not count Discord-Anon.

The Skaver mission is the most dangerous one, which is why we want Mars down there alongside some solid figthters.

The main, if only really, change I could see argued is switching out one of the CRDL fighters for Pyrrha as the Forever fall team is more then solid as is (And she and Mars should have a solid idea about how to work together)

Which only lasted for that thread faggot, so until Weaver comes down from his throne and says it counts for this thread you can fuck off. There is planning to be done.
>>
>>1836900
Part of the reason that I put Cardin there is that Mars doesn't have a weapon and is used to dealing with people. Also, in the source canon, Dove was shown to be able to fight on equal terms with Pyrrha, and was said to be the most skilled one on team CRDL.

Yepp, same reason we put Dove down there.

As for Mars' weapon situation, he still has the better part of a week to fix that issue (and I'd be surprised if he hasn't started already) and is a very solid fighter.

The issue with putting Cardin underground is that he is a: Very powerfull and b: Very reckless, effectively a less overpowered but also much more collateral causing version of Nora

However, a point that was brought up was putting high explosive characters in a tunnel system. Cardin has an explosion mace, and Yang can bring down walls.

Also, we have 4 days to make Mars a new weapon or for him to go get a replacement. Hell, I was gonna vote to call him over after school to figure out if he had a replacement and make him on if necessary.

He may be powerful and reckless, but he only has a mace. The only thing I can think of is if the asshat tries to bring down the tunnel on his head.

Well at least I didn't miss much.

We should probably consider a HQ team that can quickly respond to the other teams in case something happens. But, these are the starting missions so the likelihood of anything going wrong is low.
>>
>>1838400
The only big issue is if we have to have 4 missions a week. If that happens and we need to split into 4 teams, we wont have enough people on hand in case something goes horribly, horribly wrong. What would Beacon's stance be on making an automated APC?
>>
>>1838425
We could hire a secretary for now
>>
>>1838433
And where would we find that? Money isn't a problem because of our semblance, but where would we find someone for that. Actually, are we even allowed to hire outside assistance from the school? Hell, how would we even bring them on to the team to do the job?
>>
>>1838447
I was going to say Velvet since we met her, but then I remembered Penny hasn't been introduced and is still wandering around somewhere.
Story wise we'd have to be introduced and all that, but she'd be pretty good things considered.

We need someone back at HQ in case one of the missions goes bad so that forces and quickly be redirected.
>>
>>1838472
Hmmm, having a cute robot girl as secretary to keep the super computer we build could be fun. But where would set her up? We're still pretty early in the series at this point, so it will be some time before we can find her. Also she would only be around long enough fight the Dust looters on the dock, then her handlers come and pick her up until the tournament. We would have to be able to get her to Beacon immediately after the brawl and the handlers get her, then bring her to the dorm rooms without anyone seeing her, THEN we have to make sure Ozpin doesn't rat us out to the fucking ATLEISIAN military for hiding her in our bunk room. Because lets face it, 4 eyes will find out. And I would REALLY rather avoid having the good general come by for a chat.
>>
>>1838514
Worst comes to worst than we create an AI which also takes time. Also given everything else that's changed in Universe who knows. Just having Luci around is enough to change a bunch of things regarding RWBY's actual storyline.
>>
>>1838521
Yeah, plus we did step on some big toes recently, the chances of them checking our shit and finding the prototype we build would be pretty high, plus we already know they can hack into it with the Atlas incident. It would probably be better to just create a really good VI, if we even have the expertise to create either of them in the first place. Then we make power armor for the teams that can be launched from the dorms like our hunting gear. Maybe go power rangers style or something.
>>
>>1838540
A giant anthropomorphic robot?
>>
>>1838544
Not quite what I meant, but I am sure we could do that too. I meant more like digging out some silo thing in the woods to store them, and maybe a launch area.
>>
>>1838556
I mean a giant anthropomorphic robot would have a very limited use case. But, it could be done.

Also you might as well make power armor drones instead of giving everybody on the team power armor.

Still, the more important issue is what the Cadre could use a giant robot for.
>>
>>1838595
....fighting fucking dragons and giant flying warships, what else? Well, aside from Nora trying to take them and go on pancake runs, but that's why we're giving Ren her keys. I imagine we could make them look like the Raider Mechs from Starship Troopers. Gatling guns, chainsaws, even the railgun we talked about earlier could be mounted to it as a big mobile firing platform.
>>
>>1838628
Biggest issue here is that the legs won't work. Has to be a tank or have a lot of legs, too much pressure on the ground to make a Power Ranger robot, wait.... wait it might be possible if we use Dust
>>
>>1838633
Well yeah, of course we are going to use dust, but maybe if we incorporate some kind of skating system to the machine. The power armor can be like pic related, then use that as a control unit to the respective main mech suit. After that then we could build gattai mechs. But maybe make that a later project.
>>
>>
>>1838671
What is this and why do I feel the need to shoot something
>>
>>1838659
That reminds me Lucius will need two braces to fire the rail gun given the recoil will exert a massive amount of force. Inertial dampeners could be a project would also lead to being able to create mega-structures like a giant robot. Same time seems outside the purview of a fantasy high school quest
>>
>>1838688
>>
>>1838691
We could probably make inertia dampeners after having Weiss help us out. She is the Dust queen for a reason, so for this stage of experimentation she will be invaluable. As for the recoil, Railguns don't have that depending on how you build it, as all the force is being pushed forward, not back then forward like convectional weapons we use. The heat of the metal we shoot may cause problems though, as the speed may melt the damn gun after a few shots. Aside from that I could see the second brace being useful. But if we are going to actually build that, then we may as well build an entire exo-suit to go along with it, maybe use it as a test for the inner skeleton of the power armor. We could even make it for Jaune as he is the weakest of us, like a set of training wheels...that might break his spine if something goes wrong. But we wont tell him that part.
>>1838701
I...I don't get it
>>
>>1838724
>>
>>1838738
Okay? Qrow is cool, still don't get it though.
>>
>>1838724
Railguns send all their force forward true so there wouldn't be a recoil "jump." But, all that force going forward has an equal force going backward when fired. Most railguns in existence are fixed emplacements so given that we're attaching a railgun to something dynamic we'll have to deal with the force.

>>1838761
True, guess I didn't think about that part. Still need to think about that when building it to be used compared to our body though. We could probably get away with just using our hands and the one brace with a pistol size one, but we might need to make a brace for the others so they don't shatter their hands. Though you have to remember that the ones that are stationary are too big to be carried anyways. So that kind of thing is going to be mounted to a suit or the APC regardless. What about making a rifle size railgun though? Could we do that without hurting the team, or should we make exo-suits before that just in case?

Just a reminder that the one power suit alone made for lucy will take the months, if not the whole year, to build. Multiple suits custom made for team members is unlikely and power ranger style robots are just straight up impossible for Lucy. There are some cool ideas brought up though.
>>
>>1836545

Looking over the current roster there are some immediate choices that come to mind. First and foremost was giving the Skaver extermination to Mars, with Ren and parts of Cardin’s team for support. From what you understood tunnel fighting would mean tight, close quarters where large weapons would not be advisable. With that in mind every member you had chosen (sans Mars) had a weapon with a shorter reach; While yes this would prevent them from keeping larger broods at bay, it would allow them to at least defend themselves far better than larger, more cumbersome weapons would be.

The next decisions were in terms of reconnaissance which you had tasked Ruby with. Between herself, Khrone and Blake you have little doubt that such a mission would succeed; With Khrone being a capable woodsman and marksman on his own you could sleep soundly knowing that they would be alright. However even saying that you are nervous to place Jaune upon the team, as he had little experience and outside of yourself no one knew the truth about his acceptance to the academy. If you were honest it was part of the reason that Khrone was on the team to begin with, to keep an eye on all of them

Third was easy enough, it was simple violence; Which was exactly where the team you had elected shined. Yourself, Yang, Pyrrha and Nora. There was truly little that had to be said.

The last? Well the last one was a strange bunch to be sure. Violet, Weiss, Cardin and Sky all on a job involving talking to the police and most likely Junior himself. You were never one for the finer points of social interaction, and thus you have decided to leave it to the few people who you assumed could do the job.

Before you can even save the file the bell rings, making you jump in your seat. You quickly save the file before:

Let's not send out the team selections until we can get confirmation on the team's info. Depending on how some of the people are specced, we might want to shift some things slightly.

Okay, let me make something clear.

I don't like you, at all. You are a toxic individual who has done nothing but get mad when people push you for doing something. Instead of being fucking mature and realizing that maybe you shouldn't be such an arrogant dickhead and blaming them for your own toxicity.

I really gave you a chance too. If you had just shut up and not risen to their prods you could just go on and happily post and be a part of the quest. However now? Now all you have done is pissed off a bunch of the annons. Pissed ME off and succeed in derailing the thread because you have to defend your ego.

You are wrong, too bad. Get over it.

An exosuit is a lot tougher to make than you're implying, and probably harder than the suit itself because it'd require no the the miniaturized tech we haven't figured out and attribute enhancement equipment that doesn't require direct limb replacements, a form of tech that Lucy hasn't had much progress with besides with project chariot, which is extremely early in development. Smaller doesn't mean easier and assume Lucy won't be able to mass produce in his own, all of this stuff is hand made, only the resources are a non-issue.
>>

Truth be told one of the largest issues I have, and again it's just me, is that Luci is working on his own. Even with the best rolls in the universe and the help of Khrone and Ruby that still leaves a lot of knowledge outside the purview of the group.

Creating load bearing gear would take a lot of work and we have all these other projects.
We'd need
>nanomaterials
>better batteries
>ergonomic development
>textile development
etc
Another issue I have with the creation of power suits is that it doesn't necessarily help everyone anyway. Outside of the ridiculous R&D it's not a net benefit for everyone given their fighting styles and semblances. This isn't a military after all.
There's also the long training, it wouldn't just be hop in and go. The only reason Luci is on the path is because he's lived with a prosthetic for years so he's used to the whole thing.
It's cool to think about how to implement it in Remnant sure, But, it's completely impractical in the course of the quest.
Tbh I would rather try and create tech upgrades based around each of the Cadre's skills and what not. Crescent Rose could use an upgrade as far as Ruby using the recoil for movement, things like that.

TL;DR Taking over the world is gay, adding a Mass-Driver to Luci's arm to create the ultimate fisting machine is cool.

But, like I said I'm just the guy enthusiastic about tech shit
>>
>>1838947
Then why don't we just mess with shoving as much tech shit into his arms then. Where do we put the flamethrower? And...I am scared about the consequences, do we offer to help Nora make fancy grenades?
>>
>>1838947
Please join the discord if you aren't already on it. You seem like a cool dude to have actually considered the full spectrum of development and prerequisites for designing things.
>>
>>1838961
Because there's trade offs. I actually know what is involved in making a lot of these things we haven't really gone into pure fantasy land.

The Dust Reactor is going to create massive heat.
The Rail gun would take up practically the entire arm given all the components required.

Yes I'd love to just go Human Revolution but it isn't at all real or meaningful given the limitations we have. Miniaturization of components not-withstanding.

There's also the story to factor in, Luci isn't going to just shove every single thing in there. And he doesn't know everything either. That limits the technical development path when working solo or with just Khrone or Ruby.

But that's the fun.

>>1838963
I will soon
>>
>>1838947
Exactly, which is why I've never I've never advocated for the the power suits to be anything more than for Lucy's personal use. The resources and time required to build just one suit with the capability to improve upon a hunter's skill level is ridiculous, the fact that Lucy could make one for himself within a few months and with no issues in terms of resources is basically a miracle. Suits made for multiple people is ludicrous and exp suits are a waste of time since you'd need to put more work in what is essentially inferior equipment to the power armor.
>>
>>1838980
True, but that's what the thread is for, I cant learn anything about the tech limits we have, other than using a fun conversation here, when I cant go to the discord.
>>
>>1838985
Given the Hunters/Huntresses work environment I would honestly say the Power Suit would be detrimental, load bearing equipment is one thing given that they can go outside civilization for long periods of time. But, all of this (except basic load bearing equipment) has one word in common POWER.
Where is this power coming from? Luci gets a write off cause of a bunch of reasons, but guess what happens to the average Hunter stuck in the middle of nowhere for 30 days. Their power armor becomes a 1000lb paperweight. They have no logistics.

As for the army? AS soon as the get power armor you bet they'll try to put drones in it, it only makes sense. Also drones have no emotion send them to fight Grimm. But, that's the army.

>>1838993
To be fair the discord thing is your own set of complications.

But, other than that it's RWBY and these are high school kids, it's kind of common sense they can't just completely upheave the world with a personal army.
>>
>>1839011
Yeah that's true. But there is still the need to upgrade peoples weapons.
>>
>>1839026
Look it's obvious how much you care about the quest especially from a world building standpoint. It's why you brought up a lot of RWBY specific details.
But, nothing is perfect, and you sure as hell aren't either. None of us are. But, pointing out the inadequacies of everything isn't going to help this quest get better. People might not forgive you, but, you know your RWBY at least well enough to figure out how plot chains revolve around each other. You know the universe well enough to at least give some sense of where we are in comparison to that. You might want to fix things in universe by creating a personal army, but, you're better off trying to help us find our bearing so we don't get lost.

You're obviously not going to leave so you can at least try that.
>>
>>1839063
Huh? I never said anything about building an army though, I was just shooting the shit with making armor.
Besides, have you seen the people here? They wont acknowledge anything I say even if it kills them. What inadequacies have I been pointing out anyways? And as for the forgiving thing, there is nothing to forgive, I said I messed up last thread, then the self-righteous shits kept pestering me about it the rest of the thread.

Slipping your scroll into your pocket you group up with the rest of your cadre simply tune yourself out. Some of them (most notably Ruby and Khrone) are looking at you with suspicion. But as for why you hadn’t a clue, they hadn’t caught you after all...had they? Did Yang tell them?

You pale at the thought.

No matter, you knew it was an accident and so did Yang. With that fact in mind you smile and listen on to the discussions of the class prior and the class that was to come. You could tell from the semi-nervous faces of your peers that they were dreading the coming class with Mr.O, if only because they had never spent a significant amount of time with the man. Khrone, Mars, Violet and yourself however seem amused (and in Khrone’s Case) eager to see the man.

“Relax.” You say quietly, peeking the interests of Yang, Jaune and Pyrrha beside you. You sigh, shrugging your shoulders before speaking up further.

“Mr.O isn’t so hard to understand once you get used to him, instead of focusing on every single word like most people you have to focus on the whole point.” You struggle for words to explain “It’s like...uhhh, when you’re out in the forest you don’t just look at a single tree. You look at the whole place because there could be Grimm.” You finally explain. At first, most of them look confused by one by one they begin to understand the reference; However Jaune is the last to get it, though this does not quite surprise you.

Getting to your seat early, you give a quick nod to Ruby as she slips into the seat beside you. You hadn’t expected the Red Reaper to join you, but it was a welcome thing no doubt.

“Can I see it?” She asks, to which you raise an eyebrow.

“See, what?” You ask, turning to better look at the girl; Her silver eyes filled with a unrestrained curiosity.

“Yang told me you were packing a cannon and I want to see it!” She exclaims, clapping her hands together and leaning in.

“Please, please please please please!” She begs. “Just a peak?” She says, more quietly, though she is definitely within your personal space bubble.

“You...want to see my cannon?” You ask her, to which she nods excitedly.

“You know, I had planned to show everyone at once. But I...suppose I could give you a sneak peek.” You admit “For a close friend after all.”

You can practically see the girl vibrate as you pull the compact weapon from your back and slip it into your lap. Quickly setting it into it’s ranged configuration the girl gasps as the barrel slides over her legs. She's clearly amazed by its craftsmanship, her eyes dancing up and down it’s frame.

“Lucius.” She gasps “It’s so...big...and thick.” You nod. You don’t have to explain to the girl why, the bore clear from the barrel she’s looking over.

“Can...can I touch it?” She asks, barely over a whisper as she leans down slightly to take a closer look.

You nod again.

The girl is delicate in her touch as she runs her fingers along the filigree along the barrel, tracing it back to the receiver. After a moment she slowly makes her way up to the charge handle. She looks at it and gives it an experimental pull to find that the slide is as smooth as you could get it.

“It’s so impressive but, oh looks like you’ve got a smudge on the charge handle.” She says, looking at you sagely “My baby gets them all the time too, here let me buff it out for you.” She insists, leaning further down to breathe onto the slightly scuffed bolt knob, fogging it up before reaching for a cloth in her bag.

However before she can continue you hear the unmistakable sound of Yang yeling “RUBY!” before the desk ahead of you thuds as Yang looks down at both of you, her face going from angry to shocked in a moment.

You smile at her “What? I was just showing Ruby Ariadne; You know, my axe?” You ask before it dawns on you. You blush lightly recalling the sloping pale hills of...You recall the morning you had had and realize that you had not finished showing Yang the very weapon in your lap.

“Actually, here, why don’t you take a seat.” You insist, scooting a tiny bit further down the line to give her space. “I know we got interrupted earlier when I was showing you the big gun; So, want to finish the tour?” You ask her.

Yang looks absolutely stunned for a moment before she meekly nods and sits beside you. As you continue to go over it, Ruby is certainly the more interested of the two as Yang makes a few glimpses over the weapon than to your eyes. At first you hadn’t noticed the slight glances but after awhile you start to notice. However you can only show so much of the weapon, as to expand it further would cause a bit of a space issue and so you cut it short.

“But don’t worry, Ruby.” You say after you see the girl begin to frown.

“I’ll see if I can show you it more in depth later, maybe you’d like to help with that demo too, Yang?” You say, tilting your head to face her.

At first she doesn’t seem to respond, but a bright, crimson blush covers her face. You frown slightly, before shrugging; Maybe she still isn’t feeling well from what happened last night.

“Oh well, maybe I can ask Pyr. She was a really good partner this morning.” You mumble though it seems to only make the girl blush harder.

Maybe she was feeling ill after all.

Before you can even collapse Ariadne you see Oobleck enter, and quickly make his way to his desk to take attendance. Collapsing the weapon you take out your textbook and begin to follow along. While it was no complicated lesson it was touching on this history of Vale; A place you had not really known much about other than the Grimm and what places you could find them in.

Vale itself shared the continent of Sanus with the Kingdom of Vacuo , with the two of them having been allies during the Great War of Remnant. The continent itself was divided by the great Feorum Mountain range, but the areas surrounding vale were temperate with usually gentle conditions around the year. It wasn’t uncommon for there to be some extremes in the winter and summer; However during the spring and fall the general calm conditions made it a perfect time for launching and receiving ships.

You learned that Vale once had many settlements outside of its own walls, but during the war many of them had been destroyed and the cost to reclaim them was deemed too expensive. You make note of the areas and where they were for your own curiosity, but you are also interested to discover that the two sisters came from the small settlement of Patch.

You continue to jot down notes but Yang seems to realize that you’re taking longer than usual seeing as she asks you flat out:

After a moment you sigh and nod. The physical therapy for your new hands was non-existent and thus loss of dexterous movement for many months had been detrimental to you. Ironically enough it was your love of engineering had been perhaps the one thing that had helped you relearn how to use your hands in any real deft manner. However while you could now hold and manipulate small objects, your ability to use them in the styling of writing had been mostly shot to hell. Your handwriting was less actual written words as they were symbols only you could make out to resemble words.

“It’s...complicated.” You say, which you’ve realized is your default answer for anything involving your past.

Yang gives you a look before giving a small smile and swatting your hand out of the way. After looking at your rough (and i’m talking rougher than that one time Khrone had replaced your shampoo with superglue at Icarus rough.) notes before taking up her pen and starting to write out parts of the lesson as you sit there and just feel foolish. You aren’t sure how to take it as you look at the lecture before you and Yang scribbling down notes.

Something told you in your gut this was one of those “We’ll be talking about this later” things; And given how rapidly much of your history was leaking from the smallest detail, they would most likely be frequent.

You can’t help but feel relief at the sound of the lunch break bell.

As hungry as you are, having missed breakfast in your selfish choice to stay with the blonde bomber, you decide to stay with your companions instead of rush off to the prize of lunch before you. Looking to the team leaders around you, you’re quick to remember the current outline sitting on your scroll. Pulling the small device from your pocket you quickly send the current team choices out to their respective leaders, asking them to come to you if they had any questions. One by one you watch each of them read the message before looking to you for a moment.

While Ruby seems over the moon, it’s evident that Mars is far less pleased; However you had chosen him out of his skillset with Grimm, not the fact that you were sending him as a quite literal rat catcher. Cardin however, he seemed just happy to be going back to the club and maybe getting some drinks. All and all it doesn’t seem like it’ll be so bad, all that had to be done now was inform the other team members, but you had to use your conference room for SOMETHING after all.

Finally reaching the cafeteria you were quick to get in line and pile on the grub. If there was one thing you loved about this place was the food; No more hunting, no more having to cook . This was truly heaven on earth.

Having your tray piled high you decide to:

Sitting beside the Red Reaper you give her a nod which she returns with a smile.

“So, any questions on the recon job?” You ask, which she shakes her head.

“Nope, so far it looks like a good team. Blake is really good at stealth...like really, freaky good.” She tells you, which only confirms your suspicions. “And if Khrone is anything like you he’s probably going to be great at this. My only worry is why Jaune? The rest of us are all scouty, stealthy types; Jaune is more the classic, straight up warrior type; He doesn’t have a weapon to do anything at range and he isn’t really...fleet footed.” She tells you.

She is being nice, but she is noticing the issues with Jaune just as you are; Which meant she at least understood that there were some problems in your already existing cadre.

“Well, Jaune isn’t the most veteran combat student and I trust you and the others to be able to help him out if he’s in a bind. I trust you, Ruby.” You tell her, and she beams.

It’s interesting to watch the girl go through the myriad of emotions from pride to excitement and nervousness. For the first time since you had really met her, her age was showing; Not that she was immature as much as it was she was innocent in the way that only the youthful could be. You could barely remember such a time where you could jump between so many emotions without fear of mockery. You had no regrets in having met the girl, even if you had met within a dark cell after a foiled bank robbery.

Then again, that wasn’t the worst sort of experience you’d had in recent years.

After the girl calms you get into the finer points of Ariadne’s rifle mechanics; Though you immediately panic when she asks if you can shoot it, as you’re well aware that any normal person would probably do serious damage to themselves if they attempted to. When you tell this to the girl, she pouts and you have to look away to avoid her pouty face. You knew the dangers of such a thing from both Yang and Violet.

‘Twas an evil and perverted power, the pout.

“So, Nora..” You start off, only to flinch as she turns to you, the carcass of a recently slaughtered pancake dotting her face; It’s syrupy lifeblood still dripping from its remains.

“Mmph?!” She attempts to say, however due to still enjoying the remains of her prey. At Ren’s prodding however, the Valkyrie finished her prey with an unsettling slurp and looked at you.

“Huh? What’s up Lu-Lu?” She asks, which only just begs further questions for later.

“Uh, so..we’re gonna be teammates this weekend.” You tell her, and the girl seems to beam at you.

“Ooohh! Awesome! What’s the mission Lu-Lu? Are we gonna fight the Torchwick guy?! No, no no no, I know! I know! We’re gonna become Spies!” She insists, practically jumping in the air.

You don’t even know where she gets these ideas as you shake your head “No, nothing like that. We’re gonna be clearing out the Forever Fall.” You inform her, which only seems to heighten her ecitement.

“Oh this is perfect Renny, Lu-Lu can teach us how to ride Nevermores!” She cheers, before digging into the pancakes with a renewed vigor.

You aren’t even sure of how the hell she GOT the pancakes in the first place, considering it was LUNCH.

Seeing her excitement at the opportunity to ride the beasts gives you pause, as you realize what may have been a critical error: You had not informed the girl that Ren would not be joining you. After a moment you look to Ruby, who seemingly also sees your issue and does the one thing she can: head back to the lunch line to avoid the potential mess.

“About that…” You draw out, her focus once again on you. “Ren...isn’t going to be on this mission with us.” You tell her, and the reaction is imminent.

“But...Renny HAS to come!” She whines “We’re partners.” She argues, going to hug Ren; It amazes you the resolve of the man as he accepts the embrace with a stoic neutrality.

You had to find a way to convey it was for the best when it strikes you.

“Nora...you wouldn't want Ren getting hurt, right?” You ask her calmly, to which she immediately nods.

“Of course not! Renny is my bestest friend and partner!”

“Well...this mission is extra dangerous.” You say, adding emphasis to the ‘dangerous’ in hopes that Ren would catch on. “And if I took Ren he might get really hurt, and neither of us want that. So I assigned only the strongest and best fighters on our little group to the mission.” You explain.

It's a blatant lie, if you had to rank everyone in the cadre from what you knew; Khrone, yourself, Mars and Violet took the top four slots. After that Pyrrha and the others would follow suit, but you wouldn't tell the girl that.

After a moment's consideration she seems to understand and gives out a small squeal “Oh thank you Lu-Lu, being so considerate of Renny!” She says, hugging the boy in her embrace tighter.

You can't tell but you see the faint hint of a glare in his gaze.

You feel sympathy at the trapped boy and decide that as it was you who got him into the mess, you'll be the one getting him out. So you do the one thing you can think of: A test of strength against the Maiden of Muscle herself.

“Nora, I have a proposition for you.” You start, setting your bandaged elbow on the table. “If You win, I'll teach you how to ride Nevermores. But if I win, you have to make me pancakes.” You challenge. You almost wince at the feeling of her hand slapping into yours, her turquoise eyes locked onto yours.

“You're on, Lu-Lu.” She declared and almost immediately pushes into your hand, pushing it close to the table before you actually managed to tense your artificial muscles.

The entire table seems to stop what they're doing to watch the spectacle as the servos and hydraulics strain to push back against the girls monstrous strength. Ren, having seen the plan manages to get clear of the girl; A grateful nod in your direction as he moves. Turning back to the girl you see a slight smirk on her face and you feel yet more force applied to your limb.

The two of you stayed locked in this pattern for a few minutes longer. While Nora by far had more strength than any girl you had met (only slightly beating out Yang, only slightly) you had the endurance of metal on your side. As she began to tire you continued to make leeway, finally pushing her arm to the tipping point and with a last burst of strength you succeed; Her hand tapping against the table.

She whines for a moment but concedes, boasting that she'll beat you one day. You dread the thought but give the girl a smile as lunch bell rings.

Getting to your feet you stride towards the combat auditorium, your stomach turning slowly to a bundle of nerves. You hadn't expected that sudden change and instead veered for the lockers, pressing your back to the cool metal behind you.

You stand there for a moment, desperately trying not to just run out of the building. It makes you angry to think you’re so afraid of a honest mistake, it was a fight to test the very thing that occurred. Was is it a shitty day? Yes, but you could make this one better; But only if you really pushed beyond your terror.

Steeling yourself you ball your hands and march up towards the spectators section of the combat arena. Before you can even make it up the stairs however Ms.Goodwitch appears out of seemingly nowhere and halts you.

“Mr.Ferrum are you sure you can do this? After the events of yesterday it would be understandable if you wished to take a step back.” She tells you, surprisingly tender given the stern behavior you had seen the teacher give on the night of the robbery.

“I’ll be fine, Ma’am. It was an error, I do not think it’ll happen again.” You insist, though for a moment she looks pensive before moving aside and letting you pass.

There are far more eyes on you than you’d like as you take your seat, before being flanked by Ren and Jaune. You aren’t exactly sure why the two of them decide to join you, but you accept their company nonetheless.

One by One the opponents go by, some are interesting; Others are just silly. However as they slowly whittle away you are left for last, your opponent however is one you have faced before. And given the grin on his face, he looks as eager to test your mettle as you are reluctant to test his.

“Will Mars Sanguins and Lucius Ferrum please step down to the arena.” Ms. Goodwitch says, both of you making your way down the stairs.

“You sure you want to fight me on level Playing field, Lucy?” He mocks, smirking as he pulls at the sheathe of his blade, which had been repaired in the days since.

You say nothing, instead focusing on the steps ahead and the way you’d have to fight the teen. Mars was perhaps the most dangerous person of your group when it came to a straight up fight. While he was never a defensive fighter, the fact that he carried such a massive blade with ease was a concern.

>How do you want to handle this.

The moment the match begins you roll Ariadne off your back, it’s haft already expanding into your hands as you dash towards the teen. By the time you reach him his blade is coming down, however the blade is caught by the shaft of your axe. The force of the blow sends you to your knee however you quickly push the blade up before jamming the blunt pommel. He rolls with the impact, bringing his blade over his head as you swing down with your blade, the two of you meeting one another.

As he continues to back pedal you use the expanded blade like a spear, each short thrust being deflected by the flat of his blade. Suddenly he lashes out with a kick to the bladed weapon, knocking it up as he dives towards you, blade aimed for your stomach.

You twist Ariadne in your hands, swatting the blade out of the way of your vulnerable torso but does not stop his shoulder from ramming into it instead. Your eyes go wide as the air is knocked out of your lungs as the two of you fall back onto the arena floor; The Ex-Atlas champion atop of you. As Mars maneuvers to bring his blade up to your neck you bring your leg up, kneeing him in the back with your metallic brace. As he comes down he releases his blade and instead grabs your hair and slams his forehead into yours.

You see stars as you look at Mars returning to his previous task of retrieving his weapon while you feebly attempt to get a grip on Ariadne, which has fallen beside you. As your fingers wrap around the axe’s shaft, he begins to plunge the sword down atop you. Even as Ms. Goodwitch goes to call the match before it is too late, you reflexively tilt your head, moving your right forearm to where the most important organ in your body was. Sparks and the smell of ozone fill your nose as metal grinds on metal, the blade slowly cutting through the bandages on your right arm. The smell wakes you from your stupor and you take a grip of the shaft, slamming the pommel into his side; Knocking him forward as you throw a punch for his stomach.

Your punch manages to land true and pushes the Teen off of you, sword and all. Rolling onto your knees you get to your feet just as Mars does, both of you glaring at one another.

“You’ve gotten better, Clanker.” He spits, rolling his neck and giving his sword a swing “However you made a mistake.” He warns, gripping the blade with both hands.

“And what's that?” You ask, putting Ariadne’s blade between the two of you.

The answer is simple as he pulls the sword in two, the two halves of the blade folding back and revealing a pair of barrels. You’re already moving by the time the transformation is complete and you can hear the whizz of rounds as Mars unleashes a volley of rounds at you. Instead of panicking you watch the blade of Ariadne glow gold, and dig it into the arena floor; Stopping far faster than Mars expected as his shots go wide. As he’s preparing to return his aim however you squeeze the trigger, the buried barrel of Ariadne sending the explosive shell into the floor and kicking up a massive cloud of dust and debris.

You pull Ariadne clear and rush through the cloud of smoke, the crack of fire sounding on the other side. Sliding your hands to the lowest point of the axe you whirl it as hard as you can, cutting through the smoke before chasing after the blade. As you burst from the smoke you see Mars, his twin revolvers now a singular sword each, Ariadne careening towards him. The moment it’s about to hit he crosses the blades across his frame, sliding back as the blades clash with Ariadne reflecting off and away from the side.

You curse but push on, even without your weapon you still had your arms; However Mars had a distinct advantage in terms of range with his blades, no matter what you did it would be a dangerous gamble.

You close the distance between the two of you in a blink, your aura slowly decreasing as you pump it into your legs. Seeing your approach Mars stabs at you but you swerve out of the way, twisting to face his extended arm and grip it with your hand. Seeing the issue Mars goes to slash you with his free hand but you elbow him in the collar as you grip the hilt of the blade, bringing your free hand forward to strike his exposed wrist. The impact forces his hand to let go of the blade and into your waiting hand, which you immediately set to task by cutting at his throat; Only to be blocked by the other blade.

Kicking you away you are now only feet apart as he attempts to push the advantage, swinging at you with a flurry only to be met with his own blade. It had been some time since you had used a sword but it seemed you were still handy with the blade. Mars is more than furious that you’ve stolen his weapon, and he voices your discontent.

“You punk! You stole my Sword!” He barks, glaring at you with his mechanical Eye.

“A fight is a fight, Mars. Or did you forget that?” You tease, catching a sloppy blade before gripping his extended wrist.

Spinning the boy around, you lock your arms around his waist and as Mars finally regains himself he realizes just what is about to happen and begins to writhe in your grasp. You smirk as your metallic limbs refuse to give “You ready to go for a ride, Mars old buddy old pal?” You ask, tensing your leg muscles.

This only prompts more struggling and you decide that perhaps you should just end things.

After a moment you lift the teen off the ground before bending past the tipping point and bringing Mars down on his head, with your body acting as the bridge. It’s silent for a moment before you hear the faint call of Khrone going “One, Two, Three!” and ringing his crook against the ground. Letting go you feel Mars simply slump beneath you, groaning softly as Goodwitch goes to attend to him.

Retrieving Ariadne from its position on the far edge of the arena, you ignore the cheers and claps of your compatriots and instead sheathe the axe upon your back. You listen half-heartedly to Ms.Goodwitch as she attempts to critique the fight and your seemingly reckless attempt to catch Mars off guard with disarming yourself. The irony however is that you were never quite unarmed as you had two metallic clubs hanging off of your torso.

As you round the corner to the stairs however the bravado and courage that had been a part of your adrenaline rush fled you. You feel your knees shake as you prop yourself against the stairwell wall, the only reason your hands aren’t shaking is due to the fact that the hookups weren’t picking it up. If you were honest you had barely beaten Mars, it was almost quite literally sheer luck. If you had made one small mistake or caught a strike too late he would have beaten you easily.

After a moment you manage to recompose yourself and you climb the rest of the staircase, finally managing to return to your seat with Jaune and Ren. As you do the stern combat teacher made her closing comments on the class and that at the start of the coming week she would set up a tournament for the whole class and that you should prepare yourselves accordingly.

Hopping off of your bed, you return to your home away from home away from your newest home; The forge. Sitting yourself down beside the desk you get to work, drawing out a design you had in mind when you had first designed Ariadne. It was a design that made use of both a lower revolver and upper rifle receiver; A bizarre combination yes, however considering the massive cannon that you now called your primary firearm it was far less strange.

Thanks to the design, you would be capable of chambering .38 caliber rounds and dust cartridges as well as a larger .308 caliber shell. The reason for this was two fold, on the one hand it was a much larger bullet which meant you’d have a single shot that could do far more damage than any of the pistol rounds; But also would allow you to use specialized tools such as Grapnels, Torches, Flares and other such devices by using the upper receiver as a launcher. As you continue to slowly trace out the design you begin to get a little...overboard.

The final product that you have by the time that members of your Cadre start to message you that dinner is about to start is certainly different. Aside from the upper receiver having to be married to a revolver, with two separate hammers right on top of one another; The top action was also a bolt, meaning that there was now a slight tongue of metal above the triggers. It was as pretty as you could make the mutant gun you now had on your blueprints, but hey: Form follows function.

Making the quick trek back to the main dining hall you spot a number of your Cadre spread out all around the room.

He was a fish very far out of water at Beacon, having no training and up until three days ago he didn’t even have aura. The idea that he had gone all these years without aura, without training was beyond the scope of your understanding. You had been able to access your Aura since the age of five, and you were certain that without it you would have not survived the fall of Icarus or the following years of wilderness living.

You had to do something at some point, you knew; However there were a number of things that could be improved. His combat instincts, his weapon, his confidence in the field, and combat training in general. No matter what you started with would help certainly, but it was now the matter of what you wanted to bring up with the teen.

As you think it over you decide that a stable foundation is perhaps the best place to start; The problem now was that the Arc’s foundation was already missing pieces. It was common huntsmen theory that a Huntsmen should always have a ranged weapon in addition to his primary melee armament. Due to the amount of force that bullets were capable of producing in addition to their range made them far more dangerous than any weapon, aura or no. With that in mind you decide that perhaps the first step (at least for you) would be to talk to Jaune about either modifying or outright building a new weapon that better followed the doctrine that would shape Jaune for the remained of his years at Beacon.

You could train him between things as well.

“So...Jaune.” You say quietly, thankful for the sound of the cafeteria drowning you out.

“Yeah..uh, what’s up Lucius?” He asks, looking at you with a weak smile.

“So, I’ve been thinking about your little predicament and I’ve got a few ideas.” You inform him with a smile.”The only thing is I want your input because the big one is that I want to get you a new weapon.” You tell him, and he looks shocked.

“Y-you’re kidding! What’s the catch?” He asks, barely above a whisper. Clearly the boy had never had a bone thrown in his direction in his life. It was sad to see but you raised a hand.

“Catch? I’m doing it for your sake. After dinner we’ll meet up in the workshop to talk it over, it’ll probably take me a week so until it’s done i’ll be doing some other training.” You assure him, and you see a blinding smile cross his face.

“T..thanks!” He says, and you can tell that his smile is infecting you as you feel one tugging at your own face.

You assure him that it’s nothing and instead begin to mull over the basic design of the weapon in your head. You knew that he was using a sword and shield now and considering he was still new to it you could (in theory at least) change that to a weapon that might better suit him.

>Do you change Jaune away from Sword and Board?

As easy as it might be to give him a “safer” weapon, the truth was is that the sword and shield were perhaps the staple of simple weapons. You could slash, stab and bash with ease; The question now was what sort of weapon would you build in, if you would build it into the weapon at all. From what you could gather, Jaune had never even fired a gun and had no concept of aiming or recoil. That fact worried you, though you could always make use of a lighter caliber instead of a more massive round like Ruby or shotgun shells like Yang. While he wouldn’t do much damage against Grimm he could at least Harass them.

After a few moments of thought you decide to build a smaller caliber weapon into the shield; Particularly a submachine gun. This weapon would enable you to keep ranged training to a minimum, as with a weapon designed for spraying and praying was not something you really taught accuracy with. With the basic planning established you store it in your mind and continue the small talk, all the while continuing to work out your following weeks of training you had in store for the Male Arc.

With your meal finished you begin to make your way to the Dorms, with Jaune hot on your heels. It seems that he’s eager to get to work and you can’t help but smile at the idea of having your own, if slightly sheepish, student. As you step into the workshop you throw on the projector and ask Jaune to hand you his weapons. As you take the weapons into your hands, you can already feel their weight and you can realize almost immediately part of his issue. These weapons must have been ancient, given their weight they were weapons from the Great War. They weren’t weapons that were designed to kill Grimm initially.

They were weapons to kill men.

They were not meant to cut through Grimm bones, which peeled away with aura with ease; They were weighted to cut and pierce armor. Something that was no longer needed at this time and age, when the only true beasts had to be fought were the Grimm. You refuse to tell the boy however, as that was a far darker secret than you were willing to let him know. After all, how would he handle the fact that his weapon was stained in the blood of countless men.

Not well you assume.

“So, Here’s my idea.” You start, and begin to relay your ideas.

Jaune thinks on it as you copy down the blueprints of both the sword and shield. He speaks up however as you continue your work.

“Would it be possible to...to just build a new one?” He asks “Crocea Mors is an heirloom and I would hate to make a mess of it.” He says quietly, looking down.

You nod to the teen. “Of course Jaune. I’m just getting the measurements and everything for the blade and Shield. It’ll make it easier to modify the root design, which means it’ll be easier to make the new sword and shield.” You explain, sheathing the sword before returning it to him.

“That however shall be my project, now go get changed.” You tell him, and for a moment he looks confused but nods to do so.

The weapon could wait, after all you still had to train his first weapon: His body.

>>
>>1849226

You decide that what you have to do, more than anything is test his endurance Swinging a sword and blocking things were not that good unless you had the endurance and strength to wield them. With that in mind you wait for Jaune to return to you in his workout equipment and walk out into the chilling Autumn air. He’ll get over the cold quick enough with the sweat he’ll be working.

Walking down to the stream that had become your usual retreat you snap off two branches.

“Expand your shield.” You tell him, and he does so.

Once he does this you plant the blade into the dirt and transmute the sticks into that of pure Osmium. Heaviest by density, each of the sticks in your hands now weighed roughly fifty pounds. With that established you hand him one of the sticks, and watch his eyes widen at the weight as his muscles kick in to hold it up. Before he can ask you step beside him and slip the second bar into the hollow space of his shield.

“Now, what we’re going to work on and test is your endurance. The reason you have those bars now is they are certainly heavier than your sword, which means it’s going to take more effort to move and stop the blade and shield.” You explain, returning to his blade and retrieving it from the dirt.

“Come at me.” You tell him.

“W-what?” He stammers, looking at you with the same, wide-eyed, panicked expression.

“Come at me.”

The following fifteen minutes are perhaps the most frustrating you had had in quite some time. Not because you were bored or that Jaune was a poor student, far from it. Jaune was in-fact a diligent student, though you weren’t sure if that was because he wants to impress you or an actual drive to be a studious learner. However no matter how you slice it the truth was a sad one.

Jaune was a terrible fighter. Even taking away the fact that he was wielding far heavier equipment than he was used to he wasted energy; His swings were wide and lacked any true aim, his blocks were equally wide and took more energy than would be needed. This became obvious that he still made many of the ‘rookie’ mistakes you had made when you were young and first learning to fight.

He attacks with all his energy right out the bat and the first minutes of the spar are filled with powerful swings and blocks (poor ones, but full of energy nevertheless) to match your own blocks and parries with your arms. After that however the fight becomes far more methodical, with only rare jabs and slashes; However this fight also reveals to you something you hadn’t seen before.

Jaune was a fast thinker.

Although you’re not really attacking with much effort, Jaune is still adapting to your strategies; Even managing to get in a slight strike, sure it doesn’t hurt because he’s exhausted at the half-an-hour of near constant swinging but he managed it. After another fifteen minutes you tell him to stop and he simply flops to the ground, panting.

“How...how did I do?” He asks between pants.

You smile “You did well, far better than I expected I won’t lie.” You admit.

You won’t, however, admit that it’s a half truth.

You extend your hand to the teen, who gladly accepts it before you take the two osmium rods from him. There’s no reason to have him hold on to them all the time, and so instead you carry them. You return to the dorm and give a small wave to Yang and Pyrrha; Both of whom had already gotten changed. You can barely even tell Yang is there, only barely seeing her toes above the bars of the bed.

You surrender the shower to Jaune who pulls himself into the room to clean himself of the sweat as you hang your jacket up and sit on your bed.

“So, how’d it go with our resident knight?” Yang asks from above and you shrug.

First Entry: A task yet untaken.

It has been three months since I have undertaken this venture that I have been ordained with by the council. In the thirty years since the War our people have become a joke, no more than mere puppets to be toyed with by those who were left sabres while the rest of us ‘peasants’ were removed of our pitchforks. Many still carry the scars and yet reap no rewards, and I am no less unfortunate. I can still feel the aching pain in the arm that is vacant still from my torso and the rare twitching of my phantom fingers. But less about me here, it is the plan that has been agreed to that I must document, for a new age is truly upon us!

After searching painfully throughout the continent of Solitas and all the realm of Atlas instead a far more radical but discreet answer was found. To the west the continent of Ominum, uninhabited since before my time, still lay unsettled by man. After two weeks of surveying the coasts we have found a perfect location to settle in, an cratered ravine just inland that we are calling “The Labyrinth”. Already the walls are being built around the crater's edge and the towers foundation is being set.

It will be another year perhaps until this land will be suitable for the next phase of the plan, and I loathe the day that the council catches wind to that fact. They already see me as an old warhawk whom they only take in convenience, and to tell them that their precious results will be delayed a year longer will not please them. However it means little to me their concerns, for they wish for huntsmen without peer and I gave them my word that the task would be seen to.

And a Faust never goes back on his word.

Already I have begun the task of finding those suitable to my cause; And once the walls are built and the Tower is done they shall be summoned, with promises of wealth and power that has been bestowed onto me as the director of this to-be grand expedition. For I shall push the boundaries possible and with those who survive the generals of Atlas who sit upon their thrones of guns shall be deposed. And a new world ruled by the people shall reign! And we shall push back the dark, push back the Grimm and retake the world.

All upon the wings of Icarus.

Twenty Third Entry: The Future

They have yet to install the generators in the tower, nor have many of the windows been installed. They believe the vibrations might draw the more dangerous beasts here, and so until the shielding is complete they refuse to attempt it, meaning I am forced to write this in the flickering candlelight of my quarters. The draft makes this no less difficult and i’ve had to relight the candle a number of times. But enough of my drivel.

I have outlined the future of this program with the council and they are more than happy to provide the needed funds to approach a more...specific clientele. Those huntsmen of extreme talent are now secondary to those who are to, or planning to have families. It is my belief that these parties will be the perfect candidates, as reconditioning children from Atlas’s Academy would be far harder than starting with fresh clay, as it were.

These children shall be raised from birth with teams, and those teams shall be married to others to create a larger host of huntsmen. They shall be trained rigorously and without remorse; Weapons handling, tactics, infiltration, sabotage, assassination. All skills that those weaker schools refuse to accept are part of a huntsman’s life. They shall be better, stronger, faster than any huntsmen before them; For they shall be the foundation for the new age of man. They shall know the truth that beyond Grimm there is a greater beast that sometimes must be hunted.

The beast known as Man.

Forty Fifth Entry: The Man in Green.

The Viridian Brat has been a blessing as much as a curse; I almost regret requesting his services on the continent of Ominum. However it cannot be denied that his expertise in the barely understood field of Grimmology makes him a valuable asset in these yet unseen lands, and already the boy regales the workers with tales of at least three different species of Grimm that he had found and sketches and documents cataloguing them. While it is not something that I would condone, as such a valuable resource running out at random times to explore the grimm-forsaken continent just because he saw a Grimm that he hadn’t seen before.

I can’t afford to keep sending out other huntsmen to track him down; Even with the tower complete and the walls almost done the generator shielding is still being installed, which means the automated defenses have yet to be powered. This leaves the huntsmen I have so far managed to recruit to defend the walls, who now had to be curtailed into finding our wayward Grimmologist. I dread to imagine the stresses of those deft fighters who our survival who must now go off seemingly daily after our the brat.

I would have no issues in his explorations if he would inform me of his ventures BEFORE the hunt, instead of sending frantic calls at random hours with a new beast after his hide. Though I have time and again admonished the boy I cannot help but admire his tenacity; As it was that same strength of determination and curiosity that I shared in my youth. It is the same spark of humanity that assures me that this great venture shall succeed.

For I shall cultivate those sparks of youthful humanity and with it bring the fire that shall cleanse Remnant.
