You are the former United States Navy warship USS HOEL, now returned as a shipgirl and ready to kick Abyssal ass!

You had just managed to capture that troublesome Re-class Abyssal after it and a large Abyssal force had attempted to raid the Falklands. Thankfully, you were in a position to put a stop to it, but there were some things that nagged at you. For example, the timing of the attack seemed odd, since it happened right when you were the most vulnerable. In addition, they brought along specialized Abyssals meant to counter Anna...

Dunno, maybe it was something the Admiral and Captain could find out in debriefing.

Either way, you were being prepped for a rush flight back to Japan. You were pretty sure Vahlen was getting wet at the thought of being able to study a live Re-class, if even for a short while.

However, when they said rush flight, they meant it, since the transport plane was literally leaving right now, with instructions to basically leave anybody behind you didn't board in time.

You were actually already on the tarmac, observing as the captured Re-class Abyssal was being carefully loaded into the cargo bay. Of course, every precaution was being taken. Every limb, including that tail, was restrained in extremely thick steel bracings to keep her from moving. An intricate IV system continually pumped tranquilizers and paralyzing agents into the Abyssal's bloodstream, and the cart she was being carried on was being flanked by STRIKE-1, all of whom were armed to the teeth.

And, well, in addition, there was you and Dorsie, Repulse, Haida, and Blys to keep an eye on things on the flight back.

Anna, meanwhile, was already on the plane, still nursing a serious headache. Those she had largely recovered from the Abyssal electronic attack on her last night, she was still suffering from some aftereffects like constant headaches. Probably nothing a stay in the repair dock couldn't solve, but there wasn't time for her to take a very long dip in the Falklands one.

"All right, we're loading up!" Section announces as his team hustles into the plane. "Last call! We're leaving once the ramp closes!"

You hop up into the plane and decide to leave the guarding to STRIKE-1 and the Commonwealth shipgirls. They should be more than enough to keep a drugged up Re-class in line. As you head up through the cargo bay, you glance out the windows, but don't see any of the local British shipgirls anywhere.

Well, not surprising. Considering the attempted Abyssal raid last night, the whole base was on a higher alert level. None of them would have time to mill around the airfield to see you all off. Not like you could blame them or anything.

Finally, you reach the forward cockpit section, where Anna is sitting in one of the navigator consoles, bundled up in a blanket and apparently fast asleep. The flight crew were giving her a respectful amount of space. No doubt she felt comfortable among all the electronics here.

However, you do not a troubled look on Anna's face, as well as how she's constantly shifting around in her seat and mumbling words you can't really discern. Maybe she wasn't having such a good rest?

You close your eyes and open up your datalink, and are glad to see that Anna's kept her own open, making it simple for you to poke around in her systems. Since she was in sleep mode, it was easy to see which sections were having the most activity and you home in on it. You see a glowing orb and reach out to it-

And suddenly, you find yourself in a middle of stormy seas, waves rising and falling, rain pouring, and lighting and thunder creating a cacophony of light and sound. And you see Anna, just barely floating on the choppy water's surface, restrained by what look to be black tentacles as she tries to reach her arm out into the sky.

"H-Hoel...!" She croaks as she struggles against mass of flesh and oil pulling her down.

You decide that this needs a light touch. Instead of appearing before her like a guardian angel, you instead open up a comm line.

"Anna! Anna! Do you read?" You ask.

"H-Hoel?" Anna's voice perks up, obviously heartened by the sound of yours. "You're here!"

"Yeah, it seems you've gotten yourself in a bit of a pickle there." You continue.

"I'm... I'm so tired, Hoel." Anna coughs, her voice almost drowned out by the waves and thunder. "I.... I can't get free..."

"Anna, listen to me." You say, putting on a serious tone. "Whatever it is, don't let it beat ya!"

"But... but I'm not a cool fighter like you, Hoel, or Portland, or Iowa..." Anna whimpers. "All I do is slow everyone down..."

Shit, that EW attack must have done a real number on her psyche.

"What... what do I do, Hoel?" She asks, anxiety beginning to creep into her voice.

"B-but-"

"And I love ya, too!" You grin.

"Agggh, why can't I ever be mad at you!?" Anna groans.

"I guess because we're made for each other."

You head back into the cargo bay, where STRIKE-1 is still vigilantly watching the restrained Re-class, their weapons at the ready. Dorsie and Haida were also keeping a close eye on the captive Abyssal, while it looked like Blys and Repulse were taking a nap, the battlecruiser locking the Polish destroyer in a hug as if she were a big teddy bear. Kinda cute, actually.

"Ah, Hoel." Dorsie nods as she sees you approach. "Is Anna doing well?"

"Yeah, she's pretty okay." You nod as you take a seat next to her. "No trouble on this end?"

"She's been very quiet, thankfully." Dorsie sighs.

"Dunno, you never know with these things." Red grunts as she paces back and forth. "We should've just capped the thing when we had the chance."

"It's not our call, Red." Section sighs. "We were ordered to take this thing back by the Admiral himself."

"Anyways, it'll be a long flight back." Dorsie glances at you and nods to the snoring Repulse and Blys. "Perhaps you should get some rest while you can."

You lean in closer to Re-class, as if expecting her to just suddenly wake up and raise all sorts of hell.

"Don't worry, she's not faking it." Section explains as he pokes the Abyss with the barrel of his rifle. "That juice Vahlen sent over really seems to be doing the trick."

"Still don't trust it." Red grumps.

Still, the Re-class in this state seemed so... peaceful. It makes you wonder if it was even intelligent at all. After all, she technically was just a regular combat form, not a Princess. Well, you guess that was something Vahlen would have to figure out.

And up this close, you could really tell how this thing was a shallow copy of Paz, down to the small size and multipurpose Rig. Or maybe it was the other way around...?

Either way, the sooner you were rid of this thing, the better.

Soon enough, the journey was over, and the plane lands at Yokosuka to finally deposit its valuable cargo.

The other shipgirls head off to the repair dock to get some much needed maintenance, and you bid them all farewell as you head off to the lab.

This was such an occasion, a new live Abyssal, that Vahlen herself is there to greet you when you arrive.

"Ah, Hoel, I must thank you for bringing back a live specimen." Vahlen smiles. "I cannot wait to analyze its makeup and capabilities..."

"Hmmm, well, I do have an... experimental machine that can remotely scan Abyssals and pull information directly from their brains..." Vahlen grins. "This seems like the perfect time to test it..."

Before you even have to a chance to dissuade her, Vahlen snaps her fingers and the guards cart the Re-class deeper into the lab, leaving you a little confused.

You turn to see Paz skipping up to you.

"Well, how about ya see for yourself?" You say as you take her hand and lead her along.

"Well, what if she... tries to attack us or something?" Paz asks.

"Don't worry, she's out cold, and Vahlen wouldn't bring her here if she wasn't sure she would cause trouble."

"Mmmmm, okay." Paz nods reluctantly as she follows you.

And you both find yourself in the main lab, where the Re-class was set on a bed in the middle of a closed off glass chamber. On either side of the chamber were large, electrode looking things, with wires snaking out from them and into a bank of computers.

"Ah, Pacifica, it's good that you're here!" Vahlen smiles as she walks over. "We're about to download all of the Re-class' data and upload it into your Rig!"

"H-huh?" Paz blinks, not quite understanding what Vahlen was saying.

"Ah, I guess I should explain." Vahlen nods. "This device was originally designed to rip data and memories from Abyssals, since at the time we had no method of communicating with them. However, we've never been able to find a suitable storage medium to hold this data, so most of the tests were futile..."

"So you're just gonna use Paz as a guinea pig?" You narrow your eyes.

"We are just downloading data, not the Re-class' actual personality." Vahlen clarifies. "And this sort of capability was something we explicitly incorporated into Pacifica's design. To download and absorb Abyssal data and memories so that it could supplement our own capabilities."

"So... if I do this... does that mean the war will end?" Paz asks.

"I can't guarantee that, but it will certainly make it much quicker." Vahlen answers.

"Then I'll do it." Paz says adamantly.

As Paz links up to Vahlen's infernal machine via a special helmet wired directly to the scanner, you check on the status of your datalink with her.

"Are you worried about me, Bis Sis?" Paz asks as she glances over to you.

"You're damn right I am!" You grunt. "I feel something is wrong, I'm pulling the plug!"

"Believe me, I have taken every precaution." Vahlen tries to assure you.

"Then it's not a problem if I look around, huh?" You retort.

"Suit yourself." Vahlen shrugs and pulls the switch.

There's a low humming noise, and checking your datalink, you could see data. MASSIVE amounts of data being passed from the Re-class to Paz, like an endless tidal wave of code. However, Paz was built tough in more ways than one, and you can see her weather the massive data tsunami, barely even being rocked by the chaos of the raw data at all.

Guess she really was built for this. You try to pay attention to as code as you can, but you can barely understand any of it, making you wish Anna was here to help you interpret it all. However, otherwise, nothing seemed to be too dangerous or out of the ordinary.

Meanwhile, the Re-class just twtiches wildly on the bed as her memories are essentially ripped out of her head.

After a few minutes, the procedure is finally complete. Vahlen shuts down the machine and pulls the helmet off of Paz. You note Paz's hair smoking slightly.

"So, what do you remember?" You ask her.

"Errrr, I think I'm gonna need to have some time to make sense of all this..." Paz mutters. "It's kinda fuzzy right now."

"Well, your systems are adapting to a new massive amount of data being passed into it, so it's only natural you're not fully conscious of what you learned." Vahlen explains.

"Huh... okay." Paz shrugs.

"Anyways, don't you have a debriefing to beg going to?" Vahlen tuts as she turns her gaze to you.

>Yeah, you better head there right now.

"As a matter of fact, yes." You nod as you grab Paz's hand. "C'mon let's go!"

Vahlen makes no attempt to stop the two of you as you leave the lab and head over to the Admiral's office.

"So, Paz, how are you feeling?" You ask.

"A little dizzy, honestly." Paz frowns. "It's like... suddenly remembering a lot of stuff you've forgotten about, all coming back at once like a wave. So much and so fast I can't make much sense out of any of it yet."

"Hmmmm, I guess Anna can help ya out with that." You nod as you pat Paz on the head. "Still, kinda surprised me that you were so eager to risk you life on something like that."

"Well, if it helps you and everyone else, then I gotta do it, right?" Paz smiles.

Goddamn she was far too good for any of you.

Finally, you reach the Admiral's office, occupied only by the Admiral, the Captain, Sam, and North Carolina. Both Sam and North Carolina stand off to the side, leaving you to confront the two human officers.

"I understand that you captured a Re-class Abyssal, according the Stranger's wishes." The Admiral says.

"That's right." You nod.

"And I suppose you want to take it to the Stranger right away?"

>Damn straight.

"I guess we can wait for a while." You frown. "I mean, Vahlen is still doing all her science shit and everything."

"And Shen and Akashi would certainly like the chance to inspect the Abyssal Rig." The Captain adds.

"And I need time to sort out all this data I got!" Paz adds.

"I suppose that it our course of action, then." The Admiral nods. "Once we've gleaned what we can from the Re-class, we'll go ahead with the trade with the Stranger. We'll discuss the exact details of the trade then."

"Yes sir." You nod.

"We've also already received the debriefing from Anna, and we will investigate the Abyssals' deliberate targeting of Anna." The Admiral adds. "Considering her unique nature and critical role to our fleet, this is concerning."

"Damn right it is." You grunt.

"Then you are dismissed for now." The Admiral sighs. "We have much to do."

"Oh, so where do we go now then?" Paz asks.

"C'mon, Paz, let's go see how San Fran is doing." you grin.

"Okay!" Paz chimes as she follows your lead.

If your guess is correct, San Fran shouldn't be too far from the main destroyer dorms, considering she's basically the full time guardian for DesDiv 6 at this point. You and Paz head over, though you were a bit wary, since you remember how unpredictable those little destroyers could be...

Your radar catches the incoming contacts long before you see them, and thanks to that, you manage to stop your movements just in time to see Atlanta topple over in front of you, four destroyers piled on top of her.

"Whoa!" You blink.

"Cute!" Paz coos.

"Fran, these destroyers you're taking care of are sooooo precious!" Atlanta giggles.

"They're little demons who have been the bane of my existence ever since I met them." San Fran grunts as she walks over.

"Oh! Hoel!" Ikazuchi looks up and sees you. "Hey there!"

"H-hello, Hoel!" Inazuma bows her head to you respectfully.

"Hmph, still the tomboy as usual!" Akatsuki huffs.

"Welcome back." Hibiki says simply.

"Hey, good to see ya all." You laugh.

"Hoel, you got some free time to talk?" San Fran eyes you and then her gaze darts to the other girls and Atlanta. "Privately?"

"Sure thing." You nod. "Paz, keep an eye on the girls.

"Yes ma;am!" Paz salutes and then shuffles off to control the destroyers, or more likely to join in on the fun with them.

"I dunno why, but it feels like Atlanta is bigger than San Fran..." Ikazuchi wonders.

"And softer!" Akatsuki agrees.

"Oooooh, you little devils!" Atlanta laughs.

You ignore the commotion and concentrate on San Fran, you leads you away from the others and around the corner so you have some measure of privacy.

"So, I heard you got a Re-class." San Fran narrows her eyes. "So that you could trade it to Him."

"You mean the Stranger." You raise an eyebrow, wondering what she was getting at.

"Sure, if you want to call him that." San Fran shrugs. "I just wanted to let you know, don't put your full trust him."

"I know that much." You sigh. "Why so much concern?"

"Because Paz might be coming along with you to the meet, and I can tell he's got a interest in her." San Fran's eyes dart to Paz for a second, who was groping Atlanta in wonder.

Atlanta to her credit seemed very understanding or oblivious to what was happening.

"You've met him?" You raise an eyebrow.

"A couple times during my recon runs." San Fran sighs. "Making all sorts of sweet offers and deals that sound like just the thing you need. He keeps asking about Paz. A lot."

"Is he now...?"

"Yeah, I'm aware." You nod. "Thanks for the heads up."

"Just doing my job." San Fran shrugs as her eyes dart to the other girls. She then groans to herself and stomps over, picking up all four of DesDiv 6 in her arms in one single swoop.

"What have I told you girls about getting touchy feely with Atlanta like that!" She glowers. "That's really unprofessional."

"Oh, I don't mind it at all!" Atlanta chuckles. "In fact, I find this level of attention very refreshing!"

"Really...?" San Fran sighs. "You're just too nice sometimes."

"And you're too prickly." Atlanta fires back with a smile. "I guess we both can stand from learning each other, yes?"

"Whatever you say." San Fran grumbles as she unconsciously starts headpatting her charges. Paz included.

"Hey, how about we play tag?" Paz suggests.

"NOT IT!" The girls all yell in unison, you included.

"Oh goddamnit, really?" San Fran groans, but that moment, you and your fellow destroyers have scattered to the four winds, laughing and cackling as you go.

And, even if it was just for a little while, all the questions about the Re-class and Stranger fell the wayside...
