+Intro+
In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium there is only war. Imperium of Man, once strong and proud, now is slowly crumbling, whole regions of space are lost to the horrors that lurk in the darkness of the void. Sector Deus is just one of the thousands of Imperial provinces that form the front line in the war to defend Humanity itself. Corruption from within and aggression from without threaten it. But the Emperor sends us hope. High Lords of Terra commissioned a Chapter of Adeptus Astartes, finest warriors Humanity has ever seen, to defend this region of space. They are the last line of defence that hold Age of Ruin at bay. They are the Ghosts of Retribution and this is their tale.

To recap from last thread.

1. What does Alderon Belladon think about the soothsayer's words? Does the 'warriors with white shields' mean anything to him? Organisations related to a white shield?

2. Nearby SoBs thoughts on what we've gotten out of the witch so far. Her thoughts on Ursus now.

3. Defer to Garant regarding the weakened witch. Ask some gentle questions but don't push her.

4. Get Laxenos in here with us to help us figure out what this psychic presence inside her is.

>3. Defer to Garant regarding the weakened witch. Ask some gentle questions but don't push her.
To clarify, be gentle and try and don't press her any more but don't just leave the room and leave her alone. So CM & Laxenos (and Garant? He's a psyker) can figure out this presence.

Geron, accompanied by a squad of scouts and other brothers, approaches the restricted sector D-44 with caution. They can feel and see the visible disturbance of the veil between our world and the Immaterium, emanating from the abandoned base. Librarian Vortigan suddenly stops the squad.
>This is strange. The disturbance seems to be real, but it's weaker than it would appear when examining it from the distance. It's as if it is part illusion. We shouldn't relax, but it's safe to proceed into the base, with this level of warp exposure it would take us a century to feel the effects.
Group proceeds into the base, luckily Geron notices that entrances are booby trapped. While the squad is unable to safely disable the booby traps, they manage to find a way around and climb over the partially destroyed western wall of the compound. The base is almost completely destroyed, possibly partially by the events that took place here all those years ago, but most likely also because of the shelling by the Imperial Navy after the incident. Your men scour the base, but it doesn't seem to hold anything of value. Geron is almost ready to call the search off, when Omniscio notices something. Under the rubble your men find a half-buried body of a Space Marine. His left arm is missing and his armour is badly damaged, however you can still recognise that it is the same kind of unmarked armour as that of the other dead marines in the downed Thunderhawk. Vortigan's eyes widen:
>Geron, I think I can feel something... Yes, yes. I was right -
he's alive in there. Most likely in coma. Could he be in suspended animation? Shall we try to get him out?

a) Yes, we must help a fellow space marine.
b) Yes, but let's not rush this and get some help first.
c) No, maybe he should stay buried here, who knows why he ended up like this - also it's very likely that he attacked this outpost.
d) No, but let's inform Imperial Navy and Inquisition.
>>
>>1817838
>b) Yes, but let's not rush this and get some help first.
Secure the area and bring in a lighter. Leave him in suspended animation and make sure he's put into a secure, isolated chamber on the ship where he can be examined by Klementhos.

What does Alderon Belladon think about the soothsayer's words?
>White shields, you say? Well, I think I heard there is some sort of Regiment or organisation that have white or silver or something shields on Cadia. I doubt whether that's what you are asking for though, sorry, I have no idea - I've never been good with prophecies.
SoBs thoughts on what we've gotten out of the witch so far.
>It is clear that something very wrong is going on in Tachion Primaris. I will let my sisters know about this, we have to seriously rethink our position on the question of how to deal with your proposal. While we have our differences, Astarte, rest assured, they pale in front of something like an unsanctioned coven of drug-addicted witches. Obviously, we must be sure that Sector Governor wasn't framed and is aware of this...
Defer to Garant regarding the weakened witch.
>I don't want her to expire, she might still be useful. I would like to put her in a well guarded cell on Nobis, however there's a chance that Sector Governor might have his spies or sympathisers among Inquisitors. However she cannot remain here either, in case if we would need to use her in legal proceedings - it could and it will be argued that you kept the prisoner on Mormark and tortured her until she told you what you wanted to hear. I suggest placing her in one of my safehouses until further notice.
Get Laxenos in here with us to help us figure out what this psychic presence inside her is.
>Milord, I observed her for the past 12 hours and her readings indicate a possibly developed low level latent psychic ability. This could be just an after effect of using spook for an extended period of time, but if you wish me to, I could have a more in-depth analysis of her. It will take me a couple of weeks and then I might be able to tell you more. Though exposing myself to her might be dangerous if this is something more sinister. Let me know if you wish me to proceed (roll 2d100 if yes).

"I'm glad you think so Sister." [Tactical smile] "We must take care not to let Ursus know of our intent until all is ready though. We tread a dangerous path. All of us now."
>I suggest placing her in one of my safehouses until further notice.
"With respect, Lord Inquisitor, would the word of yourself and the Emperor's own Sororitas not suffice? It is no secret that the Order of Bloody Tears are no friends of my chapter. If they agree with us, I doubt anyone would question the validity of the claim."

The recovery operation is a success. Despite minor turbulence, lighter managed to safely approach the ruins and your Apothecaries carefully removed catatonic marine from the rubble. As you were digging him out, you discovered something else - an alien looking artifact, strangely glowing elipsoid, that was buried under the debris beside the Space Marine. Vortigan claims, that it seems to emanate warp energy, but nobody has touched it yet. What do you want to do with it?

>Subject has been in suspended animation for decades. Multiple serious bodily injuries, multiple causes, but it seems that bombardment was the thing that finally did him in. He is at first very dizzy and confused, but even for a Space Marine that is understandable. He is not restrained, but there are a few armed brothers with you in the room and he's a cripple - his left arm is missing. After a while, you can talk to him. He looks at you and talks in a slow, calm, deep voice:

Unfortunately you have not met Minotaurs and have very little idea where or how to contact them, unless you would go through central channels, which could take years and would most likely require explaining how brother Astelion was found, going directly against his request for discretion. Astelion instead suggest to send a soulword to one of the Minotaur listening stations in Morrux Sector, he even is able to explain to Nerial Derang aproximate warp call sign that should be used to contact them. However this message might take a long time to travel and even then, listening post might have been abandoned since Astelion last visited it.

>I cannot tell you what the mission was, but you are my saviours, so I'll tell you what I can. The device is of xeno origin, it was retrieved during one of our operations, which is unfortunately also classified. Among it's few different uses, which I am genuinely not familiar with (our Librarian would have known better) is a possibility to distort reality, weakening the warp and creating localised, but mostly safe anomaly. As far as I am aware it was also enhanced with technology creating illusion of appearing to be a lot more dangerous than it truly is. That device served both as a deterrent and a support tool for Librarians or psykers drawing power from the Immaterium in the area. It is safe to use as far as I am aware, our Chapter had more than one of them. >I am very happy to confirm that out of the remaining 748 brothers we have managed to extract [400+3d100] fully usable samples of geneseed. As this is a very good harvest, I would advise sending a 100 units of geneseed immediately to Mars, it's better to do it ourselves rather than wait for them to come knocking later.
That is indeed a *very* good harvest

Send 100 to Mars. No point pissing off anyone right now.

Rolled 8, 63, 12 + 400 = 483 (3d100 + 400)

Gimme dat rich creamy geneseed
"I agree Klementhos." Send the 100

Ship names....
I propose: 'Rook' and 'Talon', any other ideas?
>>

>Do I have the general agreement on involving Inquisition? This might be important.

I don't see any other recourse frankly. Does Garant know anyone in the Ordo Astartes who could look into it?

Always expect the inquisition

Name the ships 'Shadow' & 'Lurker'.
Can we pay to equip them with advanced augurs? (I can make starship combat rules and you can give narrative bonus to spying & detection)

Also I propose we spend 50w on setting up a spy network on Noctis asap.

+San Larion Safeguard force+
Inquisitor Laertos Karr is very pleased with the service your Chapter rendered unto the Imperium. For your pacification of San Larion every of the men who were left there have been allowed to seize and bring back to the Chapter coffers of one of the genestealer cults. Also, their experience fighting on San Larion has increased the Chapter proficiency against Genestealers to Very Good.

Loot from the cult [15+d10 Wealth]

+Librarian Aspirants+
Adeptus Astra Telepathica are happy to receive your request for recruits, but note that high quality aspirants are rare and sought after by numerous organisations - Inquisition, Astra Militarum, Astropathic choirs, nobility and others. How do you approach them:

>Demand their cooperation, as per your rights as a sovereign Chapter.
>Ask for their help diplomatically.
>Offer a donation of 10W to the Adeptus to help their cause just as they are helping yours.
>Offer a favour in the future for a better selection of candidates.

Mars is very pleased once they receive news that you are sending out a big geneseed batch. You are left with 401 extra units of geneseed.

>Ordo Astartes is a very small organisation and as far as I am aware none of them are currently operating within Sector Deus. I don't think you want to attract their attention. They are one of the few powers in the Imperium that can decide to destroy Space Marine Chapters and have the influence to back up their decisions. They are one of the few things that can trigger Space Wolves into action once more. I can inquire about this Space Marine and the Minotaurs on your behalf, but tell me that you really want me to do this. I can also look into this personally, but it will detract me from preparing for the coup. It is your choice.

For the record.
I dont complety know if its for that, but i pointed out that Noctis and Kruun are on opposite ends of the grave. And Kruun is in triachy hands.

dem shekels

>Ask for their help diplomatically.
I want to be friends, not a walking wallet or scary marine

>I can also look into this personally, but it will detract me from preparing for the coup. It is your choice.
"Do you have a trusted acolyte perhaps? Someone who can independently contact the Minotaurs to confirm the validity of this Astelion?"
>>
>>1840902
Regarding Astelion's situation I will need the following from you by next thread:
>What you want to tell him to keep him satisfied while you scheme?
>In what conditions do you keep him?
>Do you interrogate him/allow Garant & Co to interrogate him? Is torture allowed?
>What else do you try to do?

Also, you managed to confirm that Minotaurs have never in the history of the Imperium have been recorded to visit or operate in Sector Deus or Sector Morrux.

+Librarian Aspirants+
They are pleased by your diplomatic approach, but Inquisition proves to be more direct with their approach and gets the priority pick this year. However you can pick either 1+d3 lower quality candidates or d2 stronger candidates. Your choice.

Noted, but let's leave this for next thread and give Xyptus clear instructions.

"Shadow" and "Lurker" it is then.

+SESSION OVER+

Thanks for playing. Next week, same place, I hope earlier time, I will start a new thread.

always nice and friendly
(are they on the list of ppl to talk to regarding coup?)
>Ordo Astartes
I dont think we should talk to them WITHOUT any facts at all.

I am currently more interested in the amulet. As for the Minotaur, tell him his body is far from okay after that long time and he really should rest before undertakin a journey. (to buy us some time)

whoa there let's just involve the inquisition with investigating the artifact. we can always kill Astelion ourselves if it turns out he's a traitor. So...Ordo Xenos seems most likely.

you know, psychic shennanigans usually goes badly enough for us without any help. let's take the PR3 without any negative traits.
