It is a dark era for the Jedi Order. The Sith Empire’s relentless assault obliterated the Jedi Temple on Coruscant and slaughtered many of the Republic's brave defenders during the last war. The surviving Jedi have withdrawn to their ancient homeworld of Tython, where they take advantage of a fragile peace to train a new generation of guardians for the galaxy and investigate their ancient origins. Desperate for numbers to swell their dwindling ranks, the Jedi have begun accepting older Apprentices to train in the ways of the Force.

You are Paxious Dromus. Once a simple Zabrak farmboy from a backwater world near Iridonia, you have impressed your masters time and again with your command of the Force. You’ve sparred with masters, beaten Flesh Raiders, uncovered Jedi Shadows, and studied the mysteries of the Force and the history of the Jedi.

Now, on your way back to the temple from your trial, you've encountered a hoard of flesh raiders--the savage, shark-like natives of Tython--and a mysterious hooded figure with them.

Jedi Knight Quest 17

You dig into your bag and find the makeshift grenades. You’ve got two of them. You take one out and hold it above your head so that your companions see it. Then you begin sneaking through the brush around the flesh raider camp.

You roll one into the edge of the crowd and place another one where the flesh raiders store weapons. You see your friends following your lead, placing grenades all around the camp.

Roars erupt from the crowd. It sounds like some kind of fight is starting. You don’t hear any blaster fire or clashing of metal. Is that masked man fighting a flesh raider with his bare hands?

The ground shakes as a large creature hits the ground hard. The crowd of flesh raiders cheers and roars. You catch Nazz’s face in one of the trees, looking down on the crowd, her eyes widening as the crowd’s cheers grow louder.

You spot Lu sitting against a tree opposite of the flesh raiders. His legs are crossed. He seems to be reaching out with the Force to observe what is going on in the circle. His jaw tightens as the cheers grow.

Ara has her lightsaber in her hand, reading to activate it. She’s lying low in the brush, a serious look on her face as the deafening roars escalate.

You spot Jorraan exiting one of the tents, his huge form tip-toeing across the flesh raider camp, freezing at the snap when he steps on a stick. It was pointless though. None of the flesh raiders could hear it over their own noise. He moves back into the forests with no one paying him mind.

What do you do?

>Wait and see what happens.
>Try and find a place to see what’s happening in the crowd of flesh raiders
>Use the Force to communicate with your friends and get a plan together
>Set off the makeshift grenades
>Move on. Put some distance between you and this hoard.

You study the green forests, pockets of sunlight leaking through, and see a small incline in the dim light at the other side of the clearing. There’s enough tall grass there that you should be able to get a good view of what’s going on without the flesh raiders or the masked man noticing.

You jump through the air, dive around vines, and glide silently over the forest floor until you reach your hiding spot. You look down on the crowd of flesh raiders to find three of them unconscious and the hooded man holding up a fist in victory.

Another flesh raider enters the center of the circle and the two begin to circle one another. The flesh raider charges, but the hooded figure seems to stumble out of the way, almost accidentally. The flesh raider runs its head directly into a tree, shaking itself off and running in again, this time more carefully. It swings its fist only for the robed man to fall on his back. It punch at his form but the mysterious fighter flips into a handstand. The flesh raider lunges only for the robed figure to fall sideways and land on their feet, their back to the beast. The flesh raider punches out once again but the figure bends at their waste to avoid the attack and kicks upward, a single kick resulting in a loud crack of ribs. The flesh raider coughs up blood and falls on its knees as the crowd around it roars and cheers and throws things at it.

Whoever this is clearly knows how to fight.

You decide you need to communicate with your friends and reach out with the Force to try to communicate telepathically.

You reach out with the Force to find your friends. It doesn’t take long, but as you do it, you sense something else. You look over to a group of ten flesh raiders standing to the side of the crowd, talking quietly to each other. They seem to have some kind of aura, some kind of presence…

They’re Force sensitive.

You widen your eyes at the realization and quickly scan the crowd of flesh raiders for any others that might share the same sensitivity. You’re able to find two more. Then a third. Wait, that third presence is different. You focus on it. Something is oddly familiar about it as if you’ve encountered it before. After a minute of trying to find the body of this flesh raider to match its presence, you realize that the Force isn’t coming from a flesh raider at all. It’s coming from the robed man.

‘’Lu, Nazz, Ara, Jorraan,’’ you reach out with your mind, ‘’We need a plan. Whoever that hooded figure is, they’re Force sensitive. Some of the flesh raiders are too.’’

There’s silence for a moment before another voice that resembles Lu’s echoes through your mind, ‘’If they’re force sensitive, there’s no way they could just be a bounty hunter. They have to be some kind of Jedi or Sith or another Force user. We don’t know enough about what’s going on. I say we leave before they notice us and tell the Masters about it when we get back.’’

Ara’s voice joins in the echoes in your head, vibrating through your horns, ‘’No. They’re stockpiling weapons and this looks like some kind of preparation or ceremony to prepare for a battle or win respect or something. Whoever this person is, they’re trying to unite these different flesh raider tribes. That's bad news for the settlements here on Tython. We need to stop whatever is happening no matter who is doing it.’’

Nazz’s voice bounces through your head, ‘’We could ask the robed person. We’ve been through this part of the jungle before so if they just start attacking us, we can set off the grenades and escape in the confusion. What if it turns out to be some Jedi Knight on a mission or something?’’

Jorraan adds, ‘’We could challenge him. That’s what all the flesh raiders are doing. If we just act do that, we can get close and the flesh raiders will probably be too interested in seeing the fight to just attack us. And if we beat him we can find out who he is.’’

‘’That sounds ridiculously risky,’’ Ara retorts, ‘’and just why are you so sure it’s a he? Could be a woman under that robe.’’

‘’I dunno,’’ Jorraan thinks, ‘’Just a feeling.’’

‘’Well, I think that’s a woman,’’ Ara claims.

‘’This is pointless, guys,’’ Lu chimes in, ‘’Wait, Ara, could it be your sister?’’

There’s a minute of silence before Ara answers, ‘’I doubt it. Maybe she’s gotten a lot better at concealing and changing her presence, but I think I’d recognize her.’’

What do you do?

Have someone watch and set the nades off if things go bad.

Blow and bail. Tell the jedi back home what's what.

Worst case scenario it was a friendly doing something weird and now everyone hates us and we get expelled and find some kindly old man somewhere who inexplicably knows a boatload about famous and not so famous force users.

Wow ain't that specific?

You think for a moment before deciding, “Let’s try to talk to him. Everyone be ready with the grenades in case we need them. I’ll go out myself.”

Before anyone else can react, you stand up and reveal yourself to the crowd of flesh raiders. The noise quiets as they stare at you, with the sun at your back. You jump down from the small hill you were observing them on and land in the dirt. The silence gives way to roars and growls as the crowd of flesh raiders starts to close in on you. You put your hand on your lightsaber, taking a deep breath in and readying yourself to fight your way out of the mob. The first flesh raider approaches and you activate your lightsaber and swing it forward.

A metallic roar interrupts the battle prematurely. The flesh raider you were about to impale stops inches from the tip of your lightsaber. The crowd of flesh raiders begrudgingly parts to reveal the roar is coming from the hooded figure. The flesh raiders look on with curiosity as you close your lightsaber and approach the path the parted flesh raiders have made that leads directly to the robed figure. Now that you see them face to face, you see they’re wearing a mask that looks like an old rebreather. You can hear their breath as if a respirator were helping them breathe. Another flesh raider roar erupts from the hooded figure, sounding like a pre-recorded voice or a droid translator. The crowd of flesh raiders closes behind you, cutting off your escape. That’s not good.

You put the fear you’re feeling to the side and say, “Who are you?”

“Drop your weapon and leave this place, Jedi,” a metallic voice sounds from the mask. The words harbor no hatred, no malice, no disgust, no concern, no regard. They sound as if a droid said them.

“Who are you? I won’t ask you again. Answer or else,” you say.

The masked figure is quiet before letting out another roar that causes the flesh raiders around you to laugh.

“Young Jedi, you are in no place to be making threats. I will not tell you who I am. If you drop your weapon, I will tell you what I am doing here. Then you will leave and I will take your lightsaber and ask my friends not to kill you.”

What do you do?

> Drop your lightsaber, hear the masked figure out.
> Drop your lightsaber, but as someone goes to take it, trigger your grenade.
> Keep your lightsaber, try to get the masked figure to talk (3d10).

“I think I’ll keep it, thanks,” you say.

“Very well,” the masked figure says, raising an arm, causing flesh raiders to get noisier.

The masked figure lowers their arm.

“Coruscant is in ruins. The Jedi Council meets there now to scour for what is left. They will find nothing. It will be a generation, if not more before Jedi will have a temple on Coruscant. The Masters on Jedha grow weary of Jedi ways. There’s talk of rebellion, of separation. Tython is the only large Jedi temple left. If Tython falls, the rest of the Order will be scattered to the wind. The ways of the Jedi will be lost forever. Each enclave will fight for itself, will fight against other enclaves, will fight against the people they once swore to protect. Fear will consume the galaxy. The Sith will reign supreme. Tython is the key. If Tython falls, so does the Jedi. So does the Republic.”

“What does this have to do with flesh raiders?” you ask.

“The flesh raiders wish to be left alone. They wish to chase the Jedi and the settlers off the planet, to reclaim their homeland. They are a natural ally to the Sith. With them by their side, Tython would burn in weeks and the flesh raiders would be gifted the ashes to rule as they see fit. But if the Jedi make peace with the Flesh Raiders, the Sith will never be able to invade successfully. The whole of nature on Tython would rise up with the flesh raiders to throw them off the planet. These savages, simple as they are, are key to the survival or destruction of the Jedi and the Republic.”

An explosion throws flesh raiders to the side. Another explosion destroys a tent. Flesh raiders run to their weapons racks only to be torn to shreds by another explosion. Screams of pain and rage fly through the forest as chaos ensues.

“I see your threats were not idle,” the masked figure says, not having flinched at the explosions.

They take off into the forest before you have time to say another word.
