Come One, Come All; Welcome to ANOTHER ICARUS RISING QUEST

You awake with a start, your eyes boring into the bottom of the bed above you. You remember more than you usually did of the dream before. The weird start, the kiss, the slaying of Grimm and the…

You shake your head, trying to forget the new and strange sensation of warm Grimm’s Blood splattering your metallic limbs.

Fumbling for your Scroll you see that it is currently Six in the morning. This was usual but the slight headache and dryness in your mouth was a new sensation, one that you attributed to the alcohol intake of the evening before. Sitting up you’re mindful of bashing your head into the bunk above you before you sit up, looking blearily at the room. You can see the faintest hints of the sun rising beneath the curtains of the window and after taking a peak to the other bunks you notice that Pyrrha is missing.

Considering you can’t hear the shower (and if you could the headache would no doubt be angry about it) Pyrrha is just not in the dorm. Did she get up before you or did she just not enter the room. That thought bothered you.

You decided to attempt to find her.

Slipping your Brace on as quietly as you can you draw your jacket on and quietly stalk out in your Shorts and Jacket. At first the cool morning sun makes you shiver but you shake it off. Standing in the crisp morning air you look around and find that you’re probably one of the few students awake.

You give a sigh before marching out along the outer rim of the academy, though it does not take you long to find her. Or more correctly it takes her little time to find you, as she is running the perimeter of the academy. You take a moment to appreciate her form before you hold up a hand.

After a moment the green-eyed warrior realizes just who it is that is stopping her and jogs to a halt, panting slightly.

“Oh...good morning, Lucius. Didn't expect to see you up so early.” She admits, a small smile on her face. Though after noticing the slight wince you aren't so sure what to think of the gesture.

“I could say the same to you.” You gesture, giving a weak smile “Working out so early and all.” You reiterate before wiping a some sleep from your eyes.

Pyrrha looks uncomfortable for a moment but she relaxes when you give no indication of suspicion. Weird, but you still your thoughts when she responds.

“It's a force of habit. I was...trained a lot as a kid and some of the routines stuck.” She admits, before tilting her head slightly.

“What about you? This normal or just too much to drink?” She asks.

You're surprised by the question. You had never really considered your routine to be strange. Living and growing up in the woods you had to be up early; be it to cook and hunt, battle Grimm, scare off critters. You could count the amount of days you had slept in on your hands and still have fingers free.

“I...uh...Khrone and I wandered Remnant the last few years; Part of living every day unsure of what you'll find was getting up early. It sorta stuck.” You admit, though the ease with which the words slide from your mouth surprise you. Are you still drunk? There's no way.

It's at this point that you notice the silence.

“You're kidding.” She stares, though you can hear the doubt in her voice. Considering you had dropped a nevermore on a small horde of Grimm? That might help back up your claim.

“Nope.” You reply, shrugging. “Though I assure you it was not as thrilling or exciting as you might think, waking up and making some squirrel and rabbit bits isn't what I'd call exhilarating.”

She seems to take this information in stride but it's still an awkward conversation. In the short time that you had known the girl you hadn't spoken much, and her dedication to training was almost fanatical If the lack of sweat, shortness of breath, and flush told you anything.

“Mind if I join you?” You ask “Don’t want to keep you from your run.” You add.

She looks surprised at your offer at first but after a brief consideration nods, a wide smile breaking across her face.

“Sure!” She agrees and after getting in line with her you both begin to continue the jog along the paths of the Academy.

During the jog you make small talk with the girl and begin to learn about her life before Beacon. She had lived in Mistral for all of her life, and that comparatively Beacon had been a breath of fresh air for her. You attempt to understand why but she instead turns the conversation to yourself and your youth in the woods.

At first it’s difficult to even patch together a continual narrative, as most days were more or less the same: Wake up, cook breakfast, walk a few miles, kill a few Grimm, make camp and repeat until civilization was found. However as you regaled her with the tales of your adventure she seemed to be enraptured, though how or why baffles you.

A few more stories and tales back and forth you find yourselves standing in front of the dormitory.

How much benefit does Lucius actually get from running, what with the powered braces? If the answer is none or little, maybe we can think of an aura exercise to do in that time.

As you head for the stairs you offer to join Pyrrha for her morning exercises, which she happily agrees to. Making your way up to the dormitory you knock on the door to your room, only hearing a pair of slight groans. Opening the door slowly you gesture to the girl to shower as you make your way to your bed. Taking a seat you can’t help but smile at the sight of Jaune in his onesie trying to cover his face from the rising sun, and Yang? Well, you don’t know. She’s above you.

Hearing the water turn on your check your Scroll to see that it is just before seven. You knew that classes wouldn’t start for another three hours at least; But as a leader you weren’t sure what you should do. Do you just let everyone get up on their own time (you had all had a rather late night of partying and drinking) or did you get everyone up and ready for the day? Being in the wild with only one other person it hadn’t been such a difficult argument but you were certain almost no one else was used to your rigorous norm.

As much as you may feel bad about it; Your team was going to be the example by which you would hold the other Teams of your Cadre to. You wouldn’t blatantly inform the others of course, but they would learn. Standing up you look between the other two members of your team who are still asleep. It was time for you to make the decision: Do you be gentle about it or rough?

On the one hand they were your friends and no matter what standard you held them to you would rather be a guiding hand than a demanding one. On the other if you let them walk all over you, you’d have no discipline. Standing in the middle of the room you decide for the diplomatic option:

You draw the blinds on the window.

You immediately hear a pair of groans from the blondes, who both turn away from the sun as if it were ice. You can’t help but chuckle but looking between the two of them the question became obvious: Who do you wake up first?

After a moment of debating you walk up to the teen clad in the onsie. You had promised yourself that you’d help Jaune, as he was clearly the weakest member of your Cadre by far. Even Ruby, with the lack of her age was a better fighter; Which meant that he would benefit most from the early morning routine that would become his future.

Walking up to his bunk you gently tap at the back of his head.

“Up and at ‘em Jaune. Time to get up and going; Don’t want you becoming Beowulf chow.” You say softly, poking him slightly harder every few seconds.

He groans and attempts to scoot further away, but only manages to press into the wall. Though you need to climb slightly onto the lower bunk you manage to chase him and after a few seconds he finally starts to stir entirely.

He mumbles a bit at first but when he yelps at your last poke you fear for the worst.

You look over to Yang only to thankfully see she’s still at least semi-asleep. You knew already from the morning before that she was a morning person, and that the next couple steps would be a test in patience and survival. Warning Jaune to be quiet you sneak your way to the other side of the room.

She’s still fast asleep and part of you feels guilty for what you’re about to do. The other part of you is equally amused at the prospect. As you approach you reach out and gently prod her shoulder. She murmurs, but curls up tighter. You could swear she says something but you push on.

“Yang...Come on partner we gotta get up.” You say, though you’re only met with murmurs.

You continue to prod and poke and suggest she get up, yet nothing happens.

You swallow. You were not looking forward to the plan you were now enacting in your head. Gently gripping the sheet on her bed you look to Jaune, who, seeing your seemingly suicidal plan is as pale as a sheet.

Well, Desperate times call for desperate measures.

You rip the sheets off the bed, and the immediate growl of a waking dragon fills your room. Yang looks to you, her eyes a deep red as she seems to be preparing to tackle you from her bed.

“Why you!” She calls out and you cannot help but watch the series of muscles in her arms and legs tense in preparation.

Not good.

You aren’t fast enough to move your arms to block the crouching bombshell as she rockets off the second bunk and into your chest, knocking you to the floor. The air is knocked from your lungs as you stare up at the blonde, her eyes still flecked with crimson. You don’t even know how to respond as she glares down at you, however it isn’t exactly because you don’t have a defense.

It’s more that you enjoy being in close proximity to the beautiful girl who, in nothing but pajama shorts and a tank top. You manage to give her a sheepish smile, but the glare and pout she gives you is a strange combination.

“What time is it?” She demands, crossing her arms beneath her bust.

“Just past Seven.” You reply, blushing slightly at the view, though thankfully she’s too busy reaching for her scroll on the desk.

“...I know what kind of stuff we might face out there. I mean, look at me.” You say quietly, nodding your head to towards your metallic hands. “I’m living proof of what getting lazy is like. I don’t want that for any of you.” You admit, and almost watch the look in her eye vanish as she begins to put the two together.

She slowly removes herself from your frame and sits up, her back pressed against the frame of the bunk bed. She stretches and sighs, her eyes already drooping now that the thing that had woken her up had a (seemingly) rational excuse. You yourself finally manage to sit up yourself and get back to your feet.

“Did I miss something?” The soft voice of Pyrrha calls out, the door of the bathroom open and looking at the strange little scuffle.

“Uh...uh nothing! Just Lucius tried to wake up Yang and wellll…” Jaune explains before either you or Yang can respond.

You sigh in relief, at least you don’t have to attempt to explain why the blonde was on top of you. However another problem: Who showers next?

Looking down at the sweat stained shirt of yours you decide that, perhaps for the best that you hit the shower. Waiting for the auburn haired huntsmen to scoot out of the bathroom you grab your clothes and set them down on the downed toilet seat and turn on the water. Letting the water heat up you quietly strip out of your clothes and step into the warm water and sigh as it envelops you.

Between the headache and jog the brief isolation in the warmth of the water was heaven. You let your thoughts wander to the future of your little group. Sure you weren’t really in control of schooling or teaching, but the extracurricular training and other such things were still within your (incapable) hands. Looking it over you had a few things on the docket.

Working on either improving Jaunes Equipment and/or skills
Work out the skills of the whole group
Work on Prometheus
Actually learn how to be a leader

These things were perhaps the most important things you’d need to establish. But the question was which was of priority?

You decide that more than anything your priority would be to focus on the group as a whole. Things used to be simple when it was just you and Khrone. You knew each other's skills inside and out and how to cover each other. With sixteen people though? That was far harder.

You had no idea to be honest exactly how you’d go about it? And until you had a chance to see everyone in action (sans yourself) you weren’t really sure of what sort of capacity they had to start with, let alone each other. It dawned on you, in part that it was this exact reason that many of you no doubt were in Beacon: To learn to work together with others to better tackle threats to humanity; But why were you now in charge of it with absolutely no experience.

Well, no experience in leading people that is.

You make a note to look into a way that you could begin structuring the skills and abilities of your cadre-mates whenever you had a free period that would allow it. Maybe a tournament? Maybe just talking. You didn’t know but at least you had somewhere to work from.

Stepping out of the shower, drying and changing you open up the shower to the next person, which Yang immediately grabs as “Dibs.” While you’re waiting for that to finish you decide to:

You look over to Jaune and after a cough to get his attention he perks up.

“Y-yeah? What’s up?” He asks. He’s clearly still nervous, and you couldn’t quite blame him. You had sort of called him out on being undertrained for this kind of life and yet helped him along; It was scary having that kind of power over someone. At least, if you saw it that way it was.

“So, since i’ll have to do this with everyone else.” You start, though it already feels awkward trying to be in a ‘commanding’ place when you’ve always done what you’ve done on instinct. “What do you bring to the table? Skills, talents, hobbies, weapon. You name it, anything.” You say. At first he looks to Pyrrha and then yourself, but with a nod the girl seems to understand the privacy of it and quietly steps outside.

The moment she closes the door you can see the boy's whole demeanor shift into that of someone who is completely and utterly terrified of the answer. Though the only reason you knew that is because you had worn the look as well years ago.

He immediately says “I’ve got nothing! Nothing at all. Of course I have the basic idea of how to swing a sword and hold a shield? But other than that?! I couldn’t tell you the best way to kill a Beowulf anymore than I could actually do it.”

In layman's terms, you may as well be working with a blank slate...But that wasn’t always a bad thing.

>What do you tell Jaune.
>A. “That may not be a bad thing. Much Like this Cadre you’re a blank slate, we can make you into something great”

You mull it over for a minute, which you’re certain doesn’t make Jaune any more comfortable. But this is a difficult position and you’re feeling increasingly unsure. Because until Jaune even starts you don’t know how much more work would be needed, or if any of it would be enough. He could very well be an idiot savant who just soaks it all up and becomes a Grimm killing machine, or nothing more than a deadweight.

Either way it would sound rough to the teen, but you figured you’d at least try and be nice.

“It...isn’t so bad actually. Sure it isn’t great to start.” You pause seeing the boy tremble, but push on. “But it isn’t awful, because that means we can just build you up into whatever might be best.” You assure, smiling at him. “It’ll be hard as hell, yes. But...we can do it.”

This seems to calm him, if only just.

After a few moments you realize you’ve left Pyrrha outside and open the door and ask her to return. Now that you’ve thought about it, this might not be a bad approach; But before you can even think to continue the thought the shower stops. Yang seems far more awake now after the shower but given the side glance she gave you worries you ever so slightly.

Jaune is quick to avoid the awkward glance from the blonde, given his state of dress (A onesie). Now left alone with the two girls you feel significantly less comfortable than you had with Jaune around. Sure, neither of you were confident by any margin but it was a comforting presence nonetheless

You stick to your plan and ask both Yang and Pyrrha about their combative abilities. Both look bewildered at first but when you point out that you had already asked Jaune and had every intention of asking the rest they relaxed. After a few moments you look to your partner and she begins to go into rough detail.

Though you already could have guessed given her weapons, Yang was a close combatant first and foremost. She was similar to you in the regard in that her ranged weapons were entirely built around the midrange while she closed in to deliver the punishing blows. While blunt and straightforward it was no doubt effective, as between herself and Nora they had managed to handle their own.

>Knowledge Gained! Yang (Brawler/Mid-Range)

Pyrrha hesitates, but after seeing Yang's quick assessment she begins her own. She is far more balanced in-terms of skillset, with her Shield and multi-format Javelin, Sword and Rifle. Though she did admit she was far more comfortable at close range, your experience in the Initiation told you she was no slouch at distance. You had not seen much of her tactical acumen it was clear from the way she spoke that she was confident in her skills. Though you’d have to test that later to confirm.

>Knowledge gained! Pyrrha (Fighter/Mid-Range)

Before you could reply with your own skills and abilities, your scroll gave a soft hum and upon checking it your surprise became clear. It was short and to the point in meeting the Headmaster, what surprised you was that it was sent by the man himself.

Though he made the request without any set time you would be stupid to think that he did not mean the moment he sent it, right?

You frown before excusing yourself, explaining that the headmaster requested you. Both look about as confused as you no doubt do; Before Jaune even leaves the shower you've thrown on your jacket and are out the door. It's certainly warmer than it was an hour or so ago, and you catch a few glimpses of other senior students.

It dawns on you that none of the first years had even been given uniforms yet, but as with all things you figured it might be done at some point today. At least, you hope so; you hadn't needed to send in any measurements when you filled out the application.

After a short walk you take the elevator up to Ozpin’s office.

As you step into the office you can't help but appreciate the design. Clockwork; the office itself is built into the inner workings of Beacons clocktower. You don't even pay attention to the man at his desk as you dance from gear to gear, tracing the mechanical workings like watching a display of fireworks.

Khrone would kill to see this.

“I'm glad you appreciate my office, Mr. Ferrum.” Ozpin says, taking you out of your fascination.

You manage to look at least a little sheepish.

“Yeah-erm...it's impressive, sir.” You start, finally approaching the man's desk. “You...wanted to see me, sir?” You ask.

He nods and gestures to the chair opposite his, which you happily accept.

“I wanted to discuss with you the more...important part of your role as cadre leader.” He explains as he tapped his desk and the face began to shift, whatever files were on it fading away. “You see, while a majority of your credits will be important as always there is also the part of your Cadre’s curriculum.” He says before again tapping his Desk again.

After a few moments your scroll vibrates.

“I've just sent you four files. Each are a dossier on a task that can be done in Vale and the local area.” He starts “Most are tasks we would give to second year students; however Glynda and myself believe that it would be a terrible waste of your talents to babysit you so much.” He admits.

Before you can even speak he holds a hand up.

“As I explained at the ceremony, the teams you send and who they consist of are up to you. I expect the missions to be ready before this coming weekend, plenty of time I think.” He says, giving you a sly smile.

You nod and give him a quick salute “I'll have it done by then.” You promise and make your way to the elevator, your heart pounding.

You have no idea just what you're supposed to Do but as you ride the elevator down you browse the files quickly. They weren't difficult (by your standards at least) but you could see how they would be hard. Each were tailored towards different skills and abilities; at least at first glance.

The first was a report of heightened Skaver activity. While smallish grim (no larger than perhaps a house cat) these verminous Grimm were prolific and abundant, and it wasn't uncommon for large broods of them to form in highly populated areas such as Vale. The report however said that a rather large brood, perhaps even multiple, had migrated into the sewer system of Vale. The task was simple: find the broods and if possible destroy them.

The second was a reconnaissance request for the outskirts of Vale, as the local foresters and huntsmen had recently noticed a stillness in the Forest and fear Grimm may be in the area. While it was a far wider area, this mission was similar to the first: search and destroy.

Third was an hunt; apparently the first year students (including yourselves) would be conducting a trip into the forever fall in the coming weeks and wanted to ensure the glades were clear of the usually low level grimm that would occupy it in the absence of so many humans. There was also a request to collect some of the unique sap the trees produced but it was secondary to the clearing operation.

The last mission however, worried you.

It involved looking into a recent scuffle reported by Vale police at Junior’s. as the notorious criminal Torchwick had been involved the police had requested hunter backup. Apparently Ozpin saw poetic justice in having your Cadre be the one to investigate the reason for his arrival.

Great.

After a few moments, you shoot a short message to each of the team leaders. Most reply within a few minutes, however it takes a few more to get Cardin to reply (Sure it’s 7:30, but it is far later than usual!) but eventually a plan is agreed; You’d sit down at breakfast and you’d discuss the news. All three express curiosity but given that there would be an inevitable split up you decide to instead hold the information back until the meeting itself.

Even as you think it you’re glad the conference room will be set up that day.

You take your time as you walk to the cafeteria, after all your meeting won’t start for another half-an-hour and you have little more to do than wait; Grab a bite if you need one. As you enter the large room you find most of the tables empty with only a few students (perhaps a dozen or so) actually in the room. You hazard to guess that most of the grouped students are teams and decide that:

Walking up to the cafeteria counter and quickly pile up a tray of food and bring it to one of the empty tables. Digging in it's only a few minutes later before Ruby shows up looking equal parts excited and nervous. You couldn't tell if it was due to the message or simply that it was the first day at a new school, but you wouldn't push.

Next to arrive was Mars who arrived just as Ruby took a seat beside you. He nods quietly to the two of you and continues to follow suit, though you notice as well that the rest of his team in tow. You hadn’t expected him to disobey but you watch as he sets his team up at the table opposite your own before joining you.

Last to join is Cardin at just before Eight; It’s clear that he had not expected to be awoken so early before class but had followed your directions nonetheless. Waiting for the massive teen to sit beside Mars you welcome the trio of them before setting your scroll on the table.

“Ozpin had me meet with him this morning.” You begin, your scroll projecting the four folders in the space between the group. “We’ve got a few assignments on top of the usual classes-” This is immediately interrupted by groans from both Ruby and Cardin but you hold up a hand “Nothing like written work...more like...missions.” You describe, your voice going tense as you see the rise in Mars’s eyebrow.

“Missions?!” Ruby asks, immediately excited at the prospect of doing far more active work, to which you nod.

“I wanted to inform you guys now before we have a full brief later; Since there is one for each of us.” You explain, which seems to calm the girl slightly.

Seeing the interest of the rest of the leaders you begin to go into the details of each mission. Like you, they find both surprise and amusement in being given the investigative case with Junior. After taking a quick tally the one thing you can discern is that Ruby is against going to the Junior mission as she herself had felt awkward at his club.

Before anyone begins to declare one mission or another their own you remind them that the mission assignments will remain up to you. Mars seems to not enjoy this reminder at subordinance to you, but accepts. You also bring up the same small ‘interview’ you had performed with your team up to each of them; Though Ruby and Cardin are confused by the sudden question, Mars seems to understand and begins to go through his skillset.

Much like he had been in your youth, Mars was a combat brawler similar to Yang, however he relied on his massive blade and it’s shotgun forms to devastating effect up close. Combined with his Semblance he was an invaluable asset in combat with Grimm. (However you refused to admit this to his face)

>Info Gained: Mars (Berserker/Close-Quarters)

Cardin is quick to bring up his massive strength and mace, which was a weapon similar to Jaunes simplistic style (You make another note to look into upgrades for Cardin as well). Though he is clearly not the most flexible hunter you know from your experiences the night before and after initiation that he could be both threatening and charismatic; Albeit in the way that most well-to-do thugs were.

>Info Gained: Cardin (Thug/Close-Quarters)

Ruby was the last and certainly the most esoteric. From the times you had seen her fight she was incredibly skilled with her weapon in both its forms; Combining her deadly speed with accuracy and surprising tactics that no doubt caught many off guard. She saw herself as a close range combatant, however in your own assessment you would beg to differ. While yes she was a smart combatant, using the size of her weapon to compensate for her relatively smaller frame and using the weapons massive rounds to propel herself, it relied far too much on support from others should her momentum drop. It was only for that reason that you prefered her to stay in the backlines as a marksman.
>Info Gained: Ruby (Reaper/Long-Range)

You thank all of them for their time, which leaves an awkward taste in your mouth. You weren't usually so formal, especially with people your own age (hell you could barely talk to most people your own age with any real comfort) yet you had just done so. You hoped that as things went on you could be more….relaxed. But hey, time would tell.

Moving from your meeting place you seat yourself at the table where the rest of your Cadre was digging into their respective breakfasts. Most of them welcome you, but those that don't simply acknowledge you with a glance. Even Violet gives you a quick glance, but that doesn't fill you with any form of comfort.

Taking a seat beside your partner you give a nod to the three of them. They each in turn return the greeting, however Jaune just gives a muffled ‘mmph’ as he continues to dig into his breakfast with gusto. You can’t help but smile, at what is no doubt part nerves and excitement of the coming day.

Looking at the schedule you had been given after your initiation. Though few of them really seemed so interesting, such as History or Grimm studies (You had spent more than enough time studying Grimm in your time in the wild to need such a thing, you believed). However the one class that did fascinate you was that of the Combat and Tactics Course taught by Ms. Goodwitch.

You shared a schedule with the entirety of your Cadre, partly as first year students but something in your head told you that this was Ozpin’s directive. Whatever reasoning he had for your particular group and their project, he had every intention of seeing it to its end point; For good or for bad. Though given the start, so far things seemed to be going on the upswing.

You debate for a moment of informing your team about the weekend missions, or if it would be better to just include the whole cadre. You had to admit to yourself that you were no leader and with enough on everyone's plates in the coming few hours you weren’t sure. Hell you weren’t even sure when half of your supposed facilities for the Cadre would be installed that day, and you were kicking yourself for not asking the Headmaster.

>>1809401

Looking down at your scroll you send a quick message to Ozpin, asking about the time your facilities would be completed. After a few moments the scroll vibrates, with a brief message that the conference room and storage areas would be completed that day; With the workshops being completed the day after. With that information in mind you decide that to inform the group now, and that the conference room would be used later to determine the teams that would be sent.

Standing from your seat you walk to a point where the whole Cadre could see you.

“So...uh…” You begin, managing to get the attention of the group of students to face you. However considering the look of the students they seem to less be interested in what you’re trying to say and more the awkward fidgeting of your hands.

“I spoke to Ozpin this morning...and...well.” You continue, but before you can even continue Weiss stands to her feet and gives you a beaming smile.

“I accept!” She says, though to what makes no sense; However seeing Mars’s snort doesn’t fill you with any kind of confidence.

“W-what? What are you talking about?” You ask her, and as you speak she begins to make her way across the table beside you.

“You resigned from the head position, right? That was the big talk so in advance I accept the position as leader of the Cadre.” She explains, looking up at you.

“No, that isn’t it at all, Weiss. We got assignments.” You argue, however your explanation doesn’t seem to slow down her eagerness.

She continues to go on about what our new tasks and teams would be but before she can start barking orders (that would mean absolutely nothing) You reach out and place your metallic hand in front of her mouth.

“As I was saying...we got assignments for the weekend; Missions for our teams and I figured I would tell you them now so once the conference room is up we can shell out the missions better. Okay?” You ask, though you can’t help but notice the slight worry in your voice as Weiss struggles in your arms.

Seeing a few nods you continue on with your original plan, and after detailing each mission many of your classmates sound hopeful. Looking at Weiss, who has gone from flailing to looking up at you and glaring finally stops and you let her go. She still looks angry but returns to her seat without a fuss.

That….That could have gone so much better.

Looking to your team, you find it a relief that they have finished their meals; Though Yang seems to be holding back her laughter at you being forced to keep Weiss quiet. You give her a slight look, but she simply grins at you.

“You did well, partner.” She teases, and you feel yourself slightly shrink into yourself at the sight.

“Uh...yeah...Anyways” You murmur, Checking your scroll. You’ve got another half an hour before classes start and you figure you may as well get there early; That and you have almost no idea where you’re going.

Jerking your thumb to the door you ask “Shall we? We’ve got class to go to.” You suggest to which Pyrrha and Yang nod, though Jaune looks far less enthusiastic.

After a quick peek at the map your scroll has built in, you proceed to walk towards where you BELIEVE the classroom should be. At first you think to take the most direct route, but think against it. You’ve got time, may as well enjoy the walk with your teammates. Right?

You hope so.

A ten minute walk later and a plethora of short stories of your pasts(You’re baffled to learn that Jaune has SEVEN fucking sisters) and a few chuckles you arrive at the door to Professor Ports classroom. Grabbing the knob to the door you open it only for every nerve in your brain scream at you in panic. Before you can even think about exactly what it is that’s set off your senses you bring your hand back only for what appears to be a blunderbuss and axe to fill the space your hand once occupied.

“Ho Ho! Not bad at all!” A booming voice calls from within the room. “Cordial AND cautious! Well done students! Well done.” It continues, pulling the door open and revealing who you assume is to be professor Port.

A portly and moustached gentleman, Port smiles before making his way to his desk allowing you to enter.

“You did well! To react to all the traps AND me, ho ho!” He laughs which only leaves you puzzled.

“Traps, Sir?” You ask, the looks of your teammates and yourself adding to your confusion.

Before you can even ask the door slams open behind you and Mars, Violet, Weiss and Khrone enter smattered in various colors of ink.

Well...that explains that.

While you manage to keep yourself composed both Jaune and Yang are laughing, and thanks to them a chortle comes out of your lips, and Pyrrha also gives a smile. You ignore the glare from your best friend and set yourself up:

Taking a seat near the center you don’t even have a moment before Yang plops down beside you, grinning at you before propping her feet up on the desk. You force yourself to look away and ignore the display and instead look down at Port. The man has set a rather large stack of books on his desk and you assume that you’ll be receiving one one class begins. Past this you notice the large amount of replica Grimm Skulls in the room as well as a few well faded photos of what you assume is a young Port.

If the yellowing said anything about the man, he had been a hunter for a long time.

A few minutes after settling in you see Ruby, Blake and her team enter who promptly sit in front of you, with Cardin’s team taking up the back a few minutes after. The moment the clock hits Nine Port stands and locks the door to the classroom and makes his way to the center before announcing.

“Hello students! Welcome to your first day at Beacon Academy!” He announces, throwing his arms wide. “My name is Peter Port, and I am the Professor of Grimm Studies here at Beacon.” He introduces “Throughout your years here it is my job to introduce and teach you about the dangerous beasts that roam Remnant that we call: Grimm.” He explains, walking to the stack of books upon his desk. He picks one up and presents it to all of you, it’s leatherbound face marked with a depiction of a Beowulf’s Skull.

“This book is the Codex Grimmauldis, it is the sum of all knowledge that huntsmen have managed to acquire about our prey over the course of generations. From the lowly Beowulf to the largest of Ursa, this book contains every piece of information that might be useful for a Huntsmen in the field.” He explains, placing one on the desk in front of Violet, who had taken the front row with her team. “By the end of these four years you’ll hopefully have every piece of this codex memorized and even have a few notes to add of your own! Ho Ho!” He laughs.

“Any Questions?” He asks.

Seconding this, if we act like we can pay attention then we can throw the front and last row in the firing range for questions. Thereby giving us some cover. Port probably knows we run the shit here, relatively speaking, so he will be paying attention to us.
>>

You keep yourself quiet, as Port begins to pass out the Codex’s you receive your own and after writing your name (though it looks more like random scribbles than any legible handwriting) You begin to flip through the pages of the codex. It’s clear that there is certainly a lot of information compiled; As many species were covered, even some that you had never seen in your times in the wilderness.

However as you continue to skim you notice that there are also a few that are not documented, the sorts of grimm you had faced during your time. This sort of peculiarity bothers you and so you decide to raise your hand.

“Yes?”

“Professor Port, This codex isn’t complete.” You say “Or at the very least is missing information.” You explain, looking at the man.

“What do you mean?” He asks, his attention focused now on you.

You decide to explain your findings, that many of the more wild and rare Grimm were not accounted for. Port raises an eyebrow at this before laughing.

“Ho Ho, I’m surprised! Most Academy’s don’t teach such a comprehensive list of species! You are correct, Mr. Ferrum. This codex is more of a pocket edition, as the name implies. The species you’ve just described are documented in the Encyclopedia Grimmauldis, which each major academy has one set of.” He tells you, and you make it your mission to see it when you have the time.

“Now then, Any Questions?” He asks, though no one seems to answer.

Hearing the silence Port spends the following hour of class going over the exact curriculum that would be covered in the year, including frequent excursions to the forever fall to learn about live Grimm. Following this announcement he slides his blackboard aside revealing a caged Beowulf. “Now students, the most important means of displaying what I expect is to have it be demonstrated here. Would any of you like to take the initiative?” He asks.

You’re more than confident in your skills, but you pause for a split second. Would it be good to be picked? You had to be a good leader, right? But does a good leader lead from the front or from the back?

You decide to be on the front and raise your hand.to join the dozens of others, your partner included.

Port seems to be over the moon at all the eager huntsmen wanting to demonstrate their skills to (at least what he saw in himself) his veteran eyes, and after a long minute of him ‘hmm’-ing and ‘mnnn’-ing his gaze suddenly locks onto yours. Having done this he proceeds to walk back to his desk and look at a sheet of paper.

Wait...did he not actually know any of your names?!

“Yes..Mr….Ferrum! Considering how well you managed to prepare for my ambush let us see how you handle this fearsome beast, Ho ho!” He requests, his usual exuberance never faltering.

You can almost feel the glares, both playful or otherwise from the group of students around you. You do your best to ignore them as you raise to your full height and make the short walk down to the floor of the classroom. As you do so Port continues to drawl on about the Beowulf and the many sorts of things one might need to know when fighting him.

You tune him out almost immediately, seeing as while no doubt to those who had not spent years either as a child soldier or wilderness survivalist it was great; But you? You had bigger concerns, such as: How did you want to approach this?

Showy? Maybe to others but lets remember that this is what Luc has been doing for most of his life, if there is any subject he could speak about with any confidence its murdering grimm, and the act of fighting said grimm may even be *relaxing* for him, enough to keep his mind from worrying what others might think/What he's saying.
>>
>>1813119
True, but remember who is in the audience. Mars and Violet in specific. We are used to killing shit with our bro Khrone, but no one else. While we can be cool under actual life and death situations, this is a classroom, with the most basic bitch of grim, shutting off our brain and mutilating this thing will be more instructional then anything that may, (almost definitely) spew spaghetti out our mouth like a fire hose. THAT embarrassment might distract us to the point of making a mistake. Lets just focus on the target ahead, teach later. We can even make a trophy and use it to teach the team in the conference room later. With Khrone being our assistant.

You know what they say, perhaps the most brutal approach is the most efficient. You stand perfectly still in the open floor of the classroom, Lybras clutched tight in your metallic fist. Seeing you ready Professor Port breaks the lock on the cage and the beast clambers out and spots you. With a mighty roar it charges, leaping straight over the Professor's desk and straight for you.

Big mistake.

You throw your axe into the ground and leap at the beast, its claws catching air as you twist around, grabbing the breasts protruding upper fangs in your hands. Pulling your knees in you bring the beast to the floor on its stomach, its arms flailing wildly and attempting to bite down and break your hands. Instead however you bring your knees along its side, pushing your back into the bony ridges in its back before beginning to twist your torso. You can feel the musculature of the beast strain to try and resist your motions but with a final jerk you snap the beast's neck, its head twisted at an unnatural angle.

However you aren’t done there.

With a roar you bring your arms above your head, tearing the beast's head from its neck, its blood pooling at the floor of room, already evaporating as it does so. Standing you throw the beast's head at the foot of Ports desk, watching as its skin begins to flake and disintegrate away. The class seems stunned, however Port is absolutely ecstatic, clapping feverently as you retrieve your axe.

“Ho Ho! Very well done, Mr. Ferrum, very well done indeed! I haven’t seen a Beowulf dispatched in such a way since my youth!” He begins, devolving into some story or another.

You decide that this would be another good time to ignore the man and take your seat beside Yang.

She gives you a look, before grinning.

“Trying to get a HEAD, it seems Tin-man.” She jokes, punching you in the arm.

“Eh...not really.” You start, seeing her smile soften however you decide to return with a pun of your own. “It’s what i’m like when i’m lone Wolf.”

She laughs at that, Though Jaune and Pyrrha seem horrified at the puns.

You’re just about to turn back, as you see Port walking up to the blackboard to write when the bell rings.

“Well, that’s all for now, children! It seems we’ll have to pick up our lesson on Beowulf’s tomorrow! Class Dismissed.”

You quickly gather up the codex and nod to the rest of your Cadre, however Jaune looks pale at the display of yours still decomposing in the center of the class. Part of you feels you should apologize but given that Jaune needs to learn to handle those sorts of things you instead offer him a small smile. Turning to the door you look down at your scroll and search for your locker number buried in the depths of your Beacon itediary.

Locker number 1015; The number makes you question just how many students could actually BE at Beacon at one time.

Taking a look at your map again you find that the locker in question is actually closer to your next class than you expected, even with the fifteen minute break between. Giving a wave to your classmates you inform them of your plan before walking in the rough direction of where your locker is nestled away. It’s strange that for the first time in a few days you actually have some time to yourself, not much granted but time nonetheless.

As you wander the halls you think of the strangeness of it all, but you can’t help but be thankful. Sure it’s only been two days but you have a roof over your head and many new acquaintances and hopefully friends. Khrone was right, being at least slightly open with them had done good...you think.
Opening the door to your locker you shove your textbook inside and resolve yourself to:

>A. Be more open with your teammates; They’re stuck with you for four years, they’ll need to know sooner than later.
>B. Try and make more friends; Sure none of them will share the bond you and Khrone do, but having friends in many places is never a bad thing.

You resolve to protect your Cadre, Mars and Violet included. Many of them had not seen the world like you had, both the beauty and the horror of it. You knew realistically you could not prevent the future, but you would do everything in your power to keep them safe. If that meant training them into the dirt, running them raw and pushing them well past their limits? So be it.

You already lost one family, you refused to lose a second.

Closing your you rush for class; Sure you’ve got five minutes or so but may as well be early, you’ve got nothing else to really do after all. However what you find makes your jaw drop.

“Mr O?” You ask, completely shocked at the man in front of you.

He is a thin, disheveled individual with light green hair and glasses. In addition to his unkempt shirt was a yellow tie; However this had not been the first time you had met this particular man, however it had nearly been ten years since such a meeting had been made between you. Back when the man had been your mentor.

“My dear, could it be!?” The man sputters rapidly, and in a blink of an eye he seemingly moves from his desk to ahead of you, seemingly taking in every inch of your body at one time. “Lucius Ferrum, you have a great deal of explaining to do.” He says, leaning back and folding his arms.

You don’t answer him at first, and instead rush the man and wrap your massive arms around him. It had been years since you had seen the man, but to see him again brought back some of the few good memories you had of the place before its demise. Mr. O seems stunned at first but begins to return your hug with a small smile of his own.

“It is good to see you, my boy! We must catch up when we have the time.” he insists, suddenly out of your grip and back at his desk, sipping what you assume to be coffee out of his thermos.

You chuckle and nod at the man, before cracking a wide smile. “Khrone is going to be over the moon when he sees you, Mr.O!” You exclaim, practically giddy at the surprise.

He seems to be equally amused at the turn of events, but hides his smirk well behind the lip of his thermos.

“So, Khrone is here as well? Excellent! I’m glad to see at least some of my students have decided to join Beacon.” He admits, his usual habit of gesturing still clearly intact as he waves a hand to the empty room.

The silent moment between the two of you is broken however by the sound of the classroom door opening and Cardin popping his head into the room.

“This the place for our next class, boss?” he asks, seeing you, to which you nod.

You decide to lean against the wall beside Mr. O and for a moment he looks like he’s going to speak up but realizing that his class will probably contain the very student you just brought up and as a result simply nods. Looking to the door you see your team as well as the other dozens of students you had yet to meet or bother to interact with. One of the last to enter was Mars’s team and you can’t help but feel the grin break across your face.

The moment Khrone sees the two of you you can see the gears in his head grind a halt.

“Mr. Palatine, Care to explain why you’re almost late to my class?” Mr O asks, eyes narrowing “Or will I have to issue you a detention!” He barks and you see Khrone nearly wince in fear “I’m sure I still have my collection of X-Ray and Vav comic books lying around and the do desperately need reading.” He admits, his ruse breaking as he smiles.

Khrone takes a few more seconds to process this fact before he begins laughing, propping himself on his crook. “You almost got me there, Mr.O! Almost. Besides if that’s your threat i’ve been late for eight years now, better still have those books in mint!” He warns, though you can see the tear threatening to fall from his eye.

While you and Mr. O had been close, Khrone had always been far closer. During your time in the wilds he had expressed to you a lot of things you hadn’t known about him and one of them was his relationship to the eclectic professor before him. Khrone revealed to you that with his father always so busy, Oobleck (Who you called Mr.O out of habit) had been the father figure for the diminutive Khrone.

After a particularly long night and a little too much mead (you had been twelve at the time) he had spent the twilight hours telling you stories of all the detentions he had intentionally gotten to spend time with the man, and that after awhile he had simply gone over comic books old and new with the boy. It was Oobleck who had given Khrone his love of puzzles, clockwork, adventure and storytelling, but more than that the man had been the one to give Khrone a semblance of stability at Icarus.

As naturally as you can you stand beside your small companion and shield him from the rest of the crowd. Mars and Violet no doubt know but the rest didn’t need to see Khrone so shaken up, they’d start asking questions and none of you were truly equipped to answer them. Instead Mr.O speaks up to the class and begins to take attendance, giving you enough time to sit Khrone beside you.

You give your partner an apologetic look as you realize that many of the students in your class had never been students of the man before and were unaware of his….etcentrifities.

As you say this the man begins to speak at an unprecedented rate, practically bouncing around the room as he speaks. Years of having listened to the man have trained you to break down the jumble of sounds into actual words, and so listen along. It takes effort to not chuckle as you see Yang, Ruby and many other members of your Cadre look in stunned silence.

You remember being in their shoes too once, but back then the man was trying to teach all of you how to aim high caliber weapons and account for travel time; how the times have changed.

After a few more minutes of rapid rambling the professor begins to hand out a series of books, though with his speed it is less like a hand out and more like a game of hot potato. There are three books in total, and looking over the covers shows you that they are books on the History of Remnant, The Fangs and Freedom: a Chronicle of the Faunus Wars and a rather bizarre book: Advanced Theorems on Dust and Practical Applications.

>>
>>1815346
>Implies my personal reason for refusing to use Discord is complaining
When was the last time you went to sleep man? The only complaint I had was at a different QM that is here, you know, instead of even making the thread for us to wait in? Pretty good reason to be pissed to be honest. In any case, if you can spare the goats to sacrifice using Discord for one more day, then by all means more power to you.

"All content relevant to the thread should stay in the thread. Seen too many die because everyone was more excited about shitposting each other as glorified tripfags then doing the Quest." obviously from this statement it appears you have a problem with discords for quests and a QM would see that as a complaint. lets not forget your response to my first statement which i meant for it to go along the lines of "we aren't bad our discord is good and benificial for the quest as a whole" which your response of a insult to my ability to read is completely uncalled for and just rude

I use the Twitter to keep people updated when I have to make a change to Gemini's schedule on the fly. If I tried to do those sorts of updates in the thread, I'm basically just hoping it hasn't gone into the archive and I can still edit.

Imagine how dead you'd think I am if I said, in thread, "Next Gemini is on Thursday," the thread gets archived, and then it's Saturday before I can post. That's why I, and basically every QM, use Twitter. It's a convenient alert system that anyone can use from their phone or computer.

Because the only information on the Twitter or Discord is EXTRA information. Not necessarily things that are needed to understand the quest as a whole, but rather just things to help people that want to follow the quest more closely. It is filled with various updates about posts and when they will happen/are out and discussions among the tiny little friendly community we have here.
If you don't like that, then fine! You don't have to go on the discord or twitter. That is your choice, and frankly it has no bearing on how you will enjoy the quest or anything related to it.

As Mr. O continues to go on about the various things you would be covered in the first semester you proceeded to thumb through the pages of the Advanced Theorems on Dust and Practical Applications book. Much of the beginning of the book had been dedicated to the common knowledge that most huntsmen (should) know by this point; But as you go deeper you pause. You had to re-read the chapter heading as it was titled “Concerning the Formation and Artificial Creation of Stable Matrices” and went into the details of the potential of forming dust combinations that could not naturally form as far as anyone in Remnant had known.

You didn’t even hear anything going on around you as you dove into the pages, looking at the few hypothetical examples and their compositions. The problem that many were running into was keeping the isotope stable during the compression and heating process; Particularly with the more energetic dusts and their corresponding crystals. Khrone seems to pick up on your fascination and after looking at the page he pulls up his scroll and begins typing furiously. You don’t blame him.

You’d be typing furiously too if you were looking at a theoretical means of creating a dust that manipulated time; And your Semblance surrounded the freezing of time.

You look through the three examples of Dust given by the book with a keen eye. The first you look to is the same one that Khrone had taken such interests in: Time Dust. The Dust itself was not such a complicated mixture, simply Gravity dust and Light dust...but that was the problem. You had to have a sufficient quantity of both, with Gravity Dust being a stable combination of the other elements and Light dust being Lighting, Fire and Air. Neither of these dusts were common, nor were their components cheap in any great quantity.

The second was only known as “Shatter” Dust and was comprised of Ice, Earth and Gravity. From what you could gather the dust, once stable, would react violently with whatever it was activated upon, flash freezing the target before using the massive burst of released gravitonic energy to shatter them, as the name implied.

The last and by far the most bizarre to you was not even a tested form as much as it was pure speculation: Negative Dust. In theory the dust would take the disintegrating remains of a Grimm and its residual negative energy and compress it to a point of compressed matter. In theory the creation of an “Anti-Dust” would allow for an individual to absorb one's aura into the negative space and remove it. The only downside became that should any dust come in contact with the crystal it would detonate; And if the theory was to be believed, rather violently so.

Dangerous stuff.

You quickly begin to write down the theorems on shatter dust. It doesn’t take you very long but much of the notes are towards the ways you could even make it. As the book informed you the issue was forming the crystals without them exploding, as trying to form a stable matrix usually ended in catastrophic failure.

You’ll talk to Ruby about it later.

Having finished your notes you shut the book and take a quick look around the room. You can still see the dozens of eyes trying to keep focus on their new professor and you feel a pang of pity for them, but seeing Yang practically bouncing her head around the room squashes that feeling. So instead of worrying about it, you decide to just watch your friends be baffled by your former and current mentor.

Before you can even realize it the bell has rung and the lunch period you have begins; At a two hour long period it surprises you, but considering your last class was one on Combatives you suppose it makes sense. As you make your way down the stairs to the door you catch Khrone rushing towards the desk to talk to Mr. O and a smile breaks across your face.

You’ll catch up with him later.

As you step out into the hall Yang finally catches up with you, a smirk on her face “So, seems you know Oobleck. What’s the deal Tin-Man?” She asks

>How do you respond.

As you continue your walk you think on how exactly to put it. “Mr.O was….at teacher of mine when me and Khrone were growing up. Taught us a lot about the world and would always regale us with stories of huntsmen and heroes. If i’m honest he’s one of those big reasons we decided to become a huntsmen, Khrone too.” You admit.

It was hard to ignore the effect that Mr.O had on your life, because he always had been energetic and eccentric; But it was those very traits that set him apart from so many others, including your parents. He never saw you differently because of your...defect, rather he saw it as a struggle to overcome but to never give up hope. He couldn’t stop the bullies obviously, but the man never hesitated to teach you or praise you for when you had done well; And would equally tell you how to improve rather than blame it on things beyond your control.

You weren’t wrong in your answer; Sure your dream had always been to be a huntsmen, but it was Mr.O’s belief that you could do it that galvanized your drive to see it through. Knowing he would be here in your life again at the most crucial point in that process gave you a level of reassurance you could not measure.

“But...you said you were out in the woods in settlements as a kid. What kind of settlement were you at that a fully-fledged huntsmen would take the time to teach you?” She pressed, confused.

Shit.

Your brain grinds to a halt.

You hadn’t even realized you had misspoken; Was your attachment to Mr.O so great that you had forgotten that no one knew about the truth? Yang seems to pick up on your nervousness and stops, turning to face you with her hands on her hips.

“Well? You seem rather nervous now, Tin-Man. Spill.” She orders.

All at once it feels like you’re simultaneously attempting to fold in on yourself and scatter in every direction at once. What that results in however is grinding to a halt, still facing dead ahead and doing everything you can to not look her in the eye. This was probably the biggest mistake you could make so far.

How do you even explain HALF of the things that have happened to you, let alone the beginning.

“It’s...complicated.” you mumble out and already you’re smacking yourself upside the head. Of all the lines to go with you went with what you could safely say was the most pathetic.

She doesn’t take it and simply replies “We have time, don’t we?”

You stand there, staring at her. Your brain in absolute utter anarchy; How far down this rabbit hole were you willing to drag her? Icarus was not something pretty, and you had the scars and prosthetics to prove it. How do you even form a good enough cover for it all?

Before you can even answer your mouth is moving and words you hadn’t even thought of.

“Do you really want to know? Because trust me, you don’t. You REALLY don’t” You all but snarl, and you can’t even stop it. What the hell is happening to you?

“What you think that it’s really so bad that you can’t tell me? Considering your scars they can’t be so bad.” She challenges, glaring at you.

You feel like a passenger, trapped behind your eyes as you feel your blood boil in your veins; You’ve never been this frustrated at such a simple mistake and yet you were roaring for a fight now.

“Yes, Yang. I do? Because those scars aren’t the beginning, they’re the endpoint. You really want to know what happened? Talk to Khrone, Talk to Mars or hell even Violet. They’ll tell you EXACTLY what happened.” You say, your voice as calm and steady as you had ever heard it.

You hear your heart beating like a drum and the dull thud of your brace against the ground as you walk away; Yet with each step you feel as distant from her as you do yourself. This isn’t you, is it?

Is it?

You feel trapped, not in the physical sense but more that your mind is completely deadlocked; Yet you still plod along, mindlessly marching in whatever direction you are headed in. It’s a sensation you never want to feel again. It’s akin to being a passenger on a ride you never asked to be on, and even then you have no idea where that ride is taking you.

However this is one thing you can discern is your current emotional state: Angry. More angry than you have ever been in the entirety of your life.

“Tin-Man!” She calls, chasing after you; But she sounds like she’s miles away in your ears.

You ignore her, you ignore everything and instead try desperately to regain control of yourself from whatever part of you has suddenly recoiled. Yet every action is met with resistance. You feel something vaguely touch your shoulder and in an instant your entire body is in motion.

You don’t even care as you turn to face Violet and glare into her, you can feel the blistering heat of your gaze as she seems to flinch. Her purple eyes breaking from your gaze at the moment they contact.

“Don’t. Touch. Me.” You snarl at her, and you can almost feel your arms shaking as the memories flood in.

The laughing, the pain, the isolation of it all. But instead of cooling your rage it only seems to heighten it.

“Lucy! Wha-”

You step towards her, your brace cracking the brickwork to crack beneath the weight.

“DON’T!” You yell, your once aggressor and crush flinching further at the volume and intensity of the sheer loathing in your voice “Call me that.” You finish, far quieter. “You lost the right to call me that a long time ago, V.” You say.

It is only at this point that you recognize the silence around you in the hallway.

The silence, the stares, the whispers; The panic. This finally manages to push you back into the seat and staring at everything down the hall, you do the only thing you really can rationally think of doing. You Run, you don’t know where, but you take off like a rocket. You can feel your Aura burning as you push it all into your legs and watch as the world blurs around you.

By the time you finally stop you’re on your hands and knees panting, your heart rumbling in your chest as if it’s bursting out of your chest. Your head is light and you can’t shake the fear in Violet's eyes as you yelled, something you also never had done. Your lungs burn and after a few seconds you manage to pull yourself to standing, and make your way to the stream as you realize where you are.

The bench you had been at the very first day.

Sitting at the stream you cup your hands and drink heavily, gasping at the cool feeling of the fluid as it fills your stomach. After a few minutes you splash some of the water into your face, sighing as it cools the rush of fire in your head. As the water settles you look for a moment but seeing your reflection you blink and look closer and sigh in relief; Everything is as it should be.

You almost thought you saw red in your eyes the first time.

You stand and walk back to the cliff face where your initiation had began. The vista is still as beautiful as it had the day before and taking a seat and look along the expanse. You can feel your scroll buzzing repeatedly, no doubt your cadre members. You decide to turn it off and look along the vista.

You don’t know how long you’re sitting there when the sound of grass rustling alerts you to another presence, one you do your best to ignore and pray they don’t see you (Knowing full well that was impossible). The sound stops but considering how close it was you know it’s someone else, the feeling of their eyes staring at your back not making it any less obvious.

“I’m...not even going to ask what that was.” The person says, your hearing allowing you to pick up that it is in fact Velvet; The girl you had rescued a few days prior.

You don’t say anything, just curling yourself up even tighter in a feeble attempt to make yourself smaller.

“Look, I...i’m not gonna judge, we all have our moments and our things to deal with.” She continues, walking slightly closer and then suprises you entirely by sitting beside you.

“But if you want to at least get the lead weight off your chest, i’ll listen.” She offers and then remains quiet.

The ball is in your court.

You look at the girl for a moment, but decided against saying anything. You don’t know this girl, you know nothing about her and the less she knew about you the better; Especially considering your most recent...episode. So you decide to do the one thing you really can think of doing.

You Smile, give the girl a quiet “Thank you” and fall forwards off the cliff face.

You can hear her scream of shock as you plummet, seemingly nonplussed about the situation, arms limp at your sides, eyes closed. You feel the rustle of the wind and feel the surge of adrenaline as you feel yourself flip into that calm before the storm.

You tuck yourself in and spin, bringing your feet beneath you as you break through the treeline. You feel your brace connect with something and grin as your body slows as its fall is interrupted by the organic mass of a Beowulf. You slide for little as the blood that remains slicks your boot before evaporating away, leaving you alone in the forest with nothing more than yourself and all the beasts within you.

It almost feels like home; Almost.

You let your mind shut off and go into autopilot, rocketing even further into the forest. You reach out, slamming your axe into a tree and using the sudden halting force curve you around the great trunk before catching a Boarbatusk in your hands and bringing your knee into its face, cracking the bone before pulling your axe free and cleaving the beats head from it’s neck.

Standing up you find yourself surrounded, much as you often are in your long forgotten dreams. Beowulf's, Ursa, Boarbatusk. All drawn to the torrent of emotions swirling in your gut.

They want it? Fine.

They can have it.

You feel a wide smile crack your face as you rush into the frenzy, axe blurring as your mechanical limbs bring the massive blade around with an ease most others would find challenging. After a few quick dispatches you bury the blade of your axe into one of the Boarbatusk before turning to face another Ursa, your hand glowing the gold of the sun as you plunge it into it’s chest cavity. Pulling it clear the beast whines as its internal mass begins to splatter the ground around you in its gore.

Things are so much simpler this way, you think to yourself as you retrieve your axe before throwing it at a charging Beowulf. Chasing after your wayward blade you catch up to it just as it buries itself in the beast's neck, with you simply jumping over it and pulling the axe through; Firing the first shell of the afternoon for good measure and propelling you into the next quandary on your list.

Tucking in you bring your knees into an Ursa Alpha, bringing your hammer-like fists into its skull and crushing its head. Pushing off your brace fires as you rocket back to the center of the carnage. The heard is certainly smaller than it used to be, but now the bigger beasts are starting to get in on it; With Ursa Alphas and Beowulf Alphas trying to avenge their fallen packs and families.

You chuckle at the thought of such inhuman beasts caring for their own.

You quickly carve a circle into the grass with your blade and plant it in the center and the challenge is clear: They can come, but you will not leave that circle.

The first to accept is a Beowulf, and by the time the beast manages to swipe out you grip its paw and snap it further back before bringing your knee up into its jaw. The beast, stunned against your limb you grab its head and press your sole to its chest and watch with sick satisfaction as a flower of blood blooms out of the beasts back.

You don’t even get chance to remove the beast as a Boarbatusk charges towards you however you only smrk, your hands glowing gold.

Gripping the beasts tusk you laugh maniacally as the beast dissolves away into nothing but gas.

After another three or so encounters with such Alphas you begin to hear the rumbling from the depths of the forest. What stumbles out is something you had not seen in all your time in the wilds. Large and covered from neck to base in menacing spikes, however what worried you most was the massive bladed tail. The Grimm was massive, and trees were crushed and cut away by the blade meaning it was as sharp as your worried.

This would be tough.

Stepping out of your circle you hold your axe up and charge at it, only to jump out of the way of its tail which moved far faster than you had even imagined. This thing was deceptively fast on top of its speed. Diving behind a tree you listen to it roar before charging headlong at your position.

Just as planned.

Feeling the air part as the blade cut clear through the tree you leap forward, landing upon the beasts bony back. You grip onto it for dear life as the beast's tail thrashes, the plates of bones shifting in an attempt to dislodge you.

You grunt and groan as the beast bucks and attempts to throw you off but you push on, doing your best to make heading towards the head of the beast. You’re nearly flung off when it attempts to throw its back into a tree, and if it wasn’t for your limbs you would have been. You decide that you need to change tactics and; Having climbed up to its hind legs you reach for your axe and slam it down hard into the beast's leg muscles.

The effect is almost immediate as its leg gives out and ploughs into the ground, kicking up dust and trees as they fell.

Throwing yourself clear of the gouge you run towards the beast, in hopes of retrieving Lybras but the beast is already facing you, it’s forelimbs bared with their claws and tail waving behind it.

As you rush closer you dive, the bladed tail flying above your head as you do so. Getting back up you scramble faster, the forelimbs coming forward to attempt to swipe at you. But it’s already too late, your arms glow gold as you bring your hands up make contact; The beast's limbs turning to nothing as they become hydrogen.

But you don’t let up there.

You take a deep breath and leap straight up into the beast's chest cavity. Your hands boring through its torso cavity as you do your best to ignore the wet and warm feeling of its insides around you. After a few moments you punch out the other side, drenched from head to toe in Grimm’s Blood and let out a loud laugh as you slip onto your back. The beast beneath you twitches weakly but otherwise does nothing as you continue to laugh and giggle at your accomplishment.

What a day, no?

Seeing his look you sigh and get to your feet before leaping from the beats corpse. Walking the distance to its leg you pull it free before returning it to your back. By the time you turn to see him again he’s right behind you.

He smacks you in the head with his crook.

“Dude, what the he-” You go to say, but he interrupts you again with another smack to the head.

“Explain.” He says; There no nonsense in his voice and you look at him.

“Explain what?” You ask, glaring slightly.

He sighs “Look, don’t fuck with me okay? You know exactly what the hell i’m talking about Luci; You had a complete fucking meltdown, ran off to god knows where, TURNED OFF YOUR SCROLL AND JUMPED OFF OF THE CLIFF!” He starts, however he is yelling by the time he finishes.

You flinch and look down.

“I..” you go to speak but he smacks you again.

“I’m not done!” He spits and uses his crook to force you to look at him. “Violet freaked out, Yang is halfway between furious and worried and Velvet has no idea what to think about your little stunt.” He tells you pointing up to the cliff where you can see a small crowd gathering.

“Now. Explain.”

You look at him and start shaking, the high of combat bleeding away and the reality of what’s going on. Sit back, pressing your back into the beast's leg and begin to tell him exactly the feeling you had. The fact that you weren’t in control, that you didn’t even want to be angry and yet you had lost it completely. You tell him how horrified you are at what happened, and that you’re going to lose the few people you’ve managed to talk to.

It’s like a constant stream as you feel yourself cracking under the pressure, of attempting to make friends, be a leader, a student. He’s silent for awhile as you continue to ramble and vomit words like water from a waterfall. After awhile you finally shut yourself up and just sit there, your head buried in your knees.

No matter how far you come it seems, you’ll be alone like this.

You hear a rustle of leaves and looking up again you see someone you had not expected to see. After a few moments Violet makes her appearance though she seems far more reserved than you had ever seen the girl; And that included in the short time you had seen her since Icarus. However you could already feel yourself trying to scoot away from the girl, only succeeding in pushing yourself further into the beast's flank.

“Lucius...I” She tries to speak but Khrone holds his hand up to stop her.

“Violet, don’t...really don’t. You didn’t cause this all to-” He starts to say but Violet presses on

“Don’t Lie to me. I know exactly what role I played in all this, we were all at Icarus.” She says, glaring at your companion. “None of us are innocent in anything here.” She declares.

You say nothing still, doing everything you can to ignore her presence.

Seeing no resistance, Violet continues “I..overheard what you said and i’m not mad; Concerned sure, but mad? No.” She tells you, but you snap up to look at her, clearly not believing the girl.

“Okay, Okay I know alright! After everything i’m probably the last person you want to believe but...they’re all up their worried about you and we’ve got class. Khrone came down here because he knows you best, I came because...well...you’re our leader.”

You laugh, a low, slow laugh before getting to your feet. Sheathing Lybras you start your slow walk to the cliff face you pause to look back at her.

“Violet...two days ago you attempted to record me being humiliated by Mars in a fight only to watch me crack him upside the head. He hasn’t changed and you sure as hell haven’t either. You want to make a change? A real change? Think about it long and hard and think about everything you’ve done to me, and all the things i NEVER did to you.” You tell her, you feel more bubbling up but do your best to push it back down. Before you can finish walking away you let the last little bit you feel escape.

“All I ever did Violet was care about you, what you did with that was your choice.”

You don’t even wait for a response and just begin to climb your way up the cliff face, making use of your semblance to evaporate holes into the sheer rock. As you make your way to the lip the crowd that has formed, mostly first and second year students you note, are looking at you in stunned silence.

You walk past the group and make your way to the cafeteria, the blood still evaporating off of as you step inside. You ignore the looks from those around you as they look at your appearance as you stand in line, though you can almost feel Yang’s lilac eyes as well as everyone else's from the cadre looking at you as you get your food. You’ve got maybe another forty-five minute and you quickly start tearing into the meal with a ferocity before getting up and making a beeline for the dorms.

You need a shower, you need to feel clean after all of the shit that just happened. Thankfully none of your team members seem to follow you, though that seems like a double edged sword because they might have decided to ignore you entirely. If that’s the case you’re glad you ordered the bean bags for the conference room.

You can stay there.

Turning your scroll on you sigh, watching as more messages push themselves onto your scroll. The internal debate on whether you could simply ignore them is cut off by the sheer number of contacts that messaged you.

Ruby, Jaune, Pyrrha, Blake, Cardin and Yang.
Many are similar messages ‘Where are you?’ ‘Come Back!’ ‘We’re worried!’ It’s nice but they don’t really make much of a difference.

It was the messages from Ruby, Yang and Jaune that were the ones that made you pause.

The messages from Ruby start out as panicked and equally worried but as they begin to calm down she sends a more longer and detailed message explaining a few things. Among those is that she knows Yang can be pushy and trying to tell you not to worry about it, and that she should calm down after a few hours. She also offers to switch bunks at least for the nights until it blows over.

Jaune’s is easily the most worried, partially because of your previous conversations and also no doubt having seen it. Its honestly one of the more touching things you hear from pretty much anyone you’ve known (and mind you that wasn’t much). It goes on about how worried everyone was, and that if you needed someone to speak to that you shouldn’t hesitate; Though also concedes that it may be too soon as you had been friends to do so. You still send him a short message of thanks after internalizing the whole message.

Yang's message? Well, Messages were the ones you were both most terrified and relieved to see.

At first they are what you expected, angry and spiteful about you just lashing out at her for what seemed like no reason (You were going to have to deal with that one day) and that you’d have to face her about it. But after a few dozen messages of a similar vein they start to calm however the last makes you dread.

‘We need to talk.’

Before you can even begin to process you realize you’ve got fifteen minutes to make it to class.

You slide your scroll back into your pocket running down the stairs, Lybras rattling along your back as you run. It takes you five minutes to rush from your dorm to the combat auditorium, finding a seat in one of the farther corners of the room. You hope that the spot will keep you at least out of sight, but as the minutes tick by it becomes apparent that won't work.

Not because you were visible but because Ruby had planted herself beside you, her silver eyes shimmering in the shadowy corner of the room. Moments later Jaune and Pyrrha join the two of you and you simply accept your fate.

“Guys...I” you go to start but you are silenced by the feeling of Ruby hugging you. You're stunned since the shorter girl had rarely done such actions with anyone as far as you knew.

“Don't. Khrone was keeping us posted, at least I think he was.” She explains before letting go, looking back up at you “We don't get it, but..the three of us are your friends, we aren't giving up on you.”

You look at Ruby for a moment before hugging her for a brief moment, you honestly don’t know what to say so you do what just feels natural. After a few moments you break the hug and ask her:

“I...read your messages and. Well...I don’t know about taking your bunk but if it’s that bad i’ll sleep in the conference room.” You inform her, however she seems surprised by your suggestion.

“But...why?” She asks “It’s not like i’ve got cooties or anything.” She mumbles, pouting and crossing her arms.

You have to give a chuckle at that, but quiet yourself when you see Yang looking at you. It isn’t a glare, but it isn’t friendly. It’s completely and utterly neutral and that is what bothers you.

You are taken away from your thoughts as Glynda Goodwitch appears at the stage below. She’s to the point and begins to explain the point of her course. While huntsmen were often dispatched against Grimm also could be sent to handle domestic events which would inevitably involve dealing with humans. This class was designed to prepare you for those inevitable days.

(I will continue in the morning, I am exhausted and slowly becoming brain dead)
