Well I wound up sleeping a lot longer 13 hours before having to go to work. The previous thread timed out, so we'll be continuing here. I'll repost the last update and we'll continue from there.

You were right it should have been sitrep, I was tired and wasn't thinking.

You rejoin Henrietta near the other door, placing a hand on her shoulder to inform her of your presence. She turns and nods to you. In a hushed voice, you ask her to report on the situation down the hall.

"Not too much is happening. Looks like the main checkpoint area. There's a counter and a very unobservant Loader sitting behind it. A few lockers and container I guess for contraband and the like." She tells you.

You surmise there must be an alarm on the Loader's side of the counter that would alert the whole security force or what's left of it. Chances are you could go in there and shoot down the Loader before it has a chance to press the button. With an explosive weapon like what Henrietta has, it would be fairly easy. On top of that, Loaders are notorious for ignoring gunshots when not in the immediate vicinity.

Another option would be to just stroll in and see if there's something strange going on with that Loader. The door in is apparently in clear sight of the counter. It not being able to see Henrietta doesn't quite make sense. They might be dumb, but Loaders aren't blind.

You decide to take the most brazen approach. You whisper for Henrietta to watch your back as you walk with purpose into the Checkpoint. The Loader, bearing the markings BR-4D (Brad, you determine) behind the counter twitches and sparks as it turns to face you directly.

"WELCOME. TO THE. TRIUMVIRATE. SECURITY. CHECKPOINT. PLEASE. IDENTIFY YOURSELF. OR BE. DESTROYED." The warbling words echo out of a speaker somewhere on the machine.

"Hey, yeah, I just got transferred here and I was hoping you could direct me to control?" You establish your lie. "I need to check in with Captain Castus as soon as possible."

"A. NEWBIE. HUH? WELL YOU. NEED TO GO. UP. THE STAIRS. BEHIND. ME. FOLLOW. THE CORRIDOR. THE. DOOR WILL. BE. THE ONE. ON. THE RIGHT. HAVE. A GOOD DAY... BAAL." You stop for a second, remembering you still have a name tag on. You look down before looking back up to the Loader, who has returned his attention to something else at the counter. Seems it somehow missed the part of the name tag that says 'Dahl' right above your name.

While you had distracted the machine, Henrietta had taken the initiative to sneak past it and into the stairway the Loader had designated to you.

>Bid Brad a good day and head up the stairs.

You linger around the counter a bit longer and start a dialogue with the robot.

"So, working hard or hardly working?" You give the age-old line to really break the ice.

"HA. HA. A BIT. OF. BOTH. PAL." He responds. "SAY. IF. YOU HAVE. THE TIME. COULD. I. ASK YOU. A. FAVOR?"

"Yeah sure, what is it?"

"I HAVE. A. FRIEND IN. MAINTENANCE. WORKING. UP IN. CONTROL. TODAY. COULD. YOU MAKE. SURE. HE'S. NOT GETTING. HIMSELF. INTO TROUBLE? HE. CAN BE. A. BIT... ROWDY."

"That doesn't sound too hard. What does he fix?"

"RD-3 IS A . BUT. HIS PROGRAMMING. IS FOR A WAR-LOADER."

"Uh, oh. Well, still, I'll see how he's doing."

"DON'T LET. HIM. GET. THE BEST. OF YOU. HE'S. A. HEARTY ONE. SMACK HIM. AROUND. A. BIT IF. HE. TRIES BEING. ROUGH. WITH YOU."

You nod and start on your way.

>[SIDE QUEST: ROWDY PIPER] GET

You rejoin Henrietta and start up the stairs. Now... which door did Brad say to go through?

>The left door.
>The right door.

Right. It was the right door. You walk up to it with Henrietta and walk on through with no difficulties. Inside is a large pentagonal room filled with hulking consoles with Loaders around most of them. There is another, large, red Loader in working on the far side of the room. In the center of the room is an imposing looking man hovering over a nearby Loader.

"Alright you bucket of bolts. I want damage reports now! There are intruders aboard the Triumvirate and we must not allow them to gain a foot hold. Scan those cameras until your sensors fry!" He shouts at them

The camera zooms in on a shot of the man before freezing him in a commanding pose. Text appears identifying him. Captain Castus! Oh Captain, My Captain!

He turns to look at you. "Who let you two back here?! Intruders! Open fire, men!"

Henrietta immediately dives for one of the computer consoles and starts opening fire with her shotgun, reducing the closest Loader to debris.

Right behind Henrietta, you hit the deck, narrowly dodging the wild spray of the Loaders. You guess it would be a little too much to think you could fool the man who runs this place like the dim Loader downstairs. You grab your nASSty mashine gun and pop out to start unloading into the horde of robots.

Your shots strike a few of the machines and do tremendous damage due to the corrosive nature of your projectiles, but none actually fall. You curse a little and duck back down before you're shot back. You think to shout out to RD-3, but your voices doesn't carry far enough over the sound of gunfire and robotic voices. Speaking of...

"GRENADE."

An apple-sized lump of metal clunks over your cover between you and Henrietta. You look at it and each other for a second before the connection is made. Crap.

You do not waste any more time in throwing the explosive back over to the Loaders.

"INCOMING." Some of the react and dive out of the way, but three of them eat the full blast and, along with devastation from your mashine gun, succumb to the damage and fall.

"You useless machines! This requires a real person's power." You hear the captain shout down his forces. You manage to sneak a peak over cover in time to see him shouldering a rocket launcher and narrowing his aim at you and your precious cover. Just one rocket could easily ruin your day.

Your Dahl pistol might have the accuracy to shoot the rocket and detonate it in the Captain's face if you're fast and steady enough for it. But if miss, well... You better not miss.

"RUN!" You shout to Henrietta as you bolt from cover. You make it clear just as the rocket impacts the console you had been hiding behind. The concussion of the blast lifts you from the ground, causing you to slide and skitter across the floor and behind another computer console.

The Loaders are still picking themselves up off the ground and are unable to attempt to hinder your relocation.

"You got lucky, bandit!" The captain shouts at you. You think he might be loading another rocket. You glance around at your surroundings just in case you have another bit of cover to scramble to if the need arises. There are still several around, but your eye linger on the collapsed form of Henrietta. You hadn't been keeping track of her other than your warning. She must not have been able to clear the blast zone in time.

She, thankfully, isn't dead as you see her arms move. However, it looks like the Captain has noticed that, too, and is looking to correct that oversight.

I noticed halfway through creating this post that I'd accidentally reversed my rolling rules for combat (low being good for combat rolls) but have decided that we'll just roll with it for now. I'll switch back to the rules next thread.

Time seems to slow down around you as you start sprinting as fast as you can to where the prone and stunned Henrietta is laying. You can see the trajectory of the missile as you draw your pistol in your left hand. The explosive starts to exit the tube of the launcher and you see Henrietta's eyes widen as she sees realized her peril. You lunge into a slide on your knees, one hand grabbing Henrietta by her jacket and the other holding the pistol aimed at Castus. You focus your vision through the holo sight and, with a single burst of fire, shoot the rocket.

Time starts to return to normal for you as the explosion envelopes the Captain and a few Loaders. Both you and Henrietta safely slide into cover away from the cloud of fire and shrapnel. Henrietta is staring at you with wide eyes as your chest heaves. Your heart is screaming like never before. The little voice in your mind that usually screams good advice at you is berating you on such reckless behavior, while the more impulsive side of you is informing you of the massive adrenaline boner you've popped because of this awesomeness.

You peek around the bit of debris acting as your cover to check the battle field. From what you can surmise, only a couple of Loader survived and you can only see the bottom half of the Captain hanging on the edge of the crater where he once stood.

Shoot! You need to say something witty after a move like that. Think fast, Baal!

"You're shift's over, Captain." You mutter triumphantly. Eh... you give it 3 out of 5. To distract yourself from the mediocre one-liner, you turn your attention back to Henrietta, who has shaken herself out of her momentary stun. "You alright?" You ask her.

"Er... Y-Yeah. Just a little shook up. Those rockets can pack a punch. Probably would be worse off if it wasn't for you, though. Thanks." She smiles at you and you nod. The two of you return to your feet and easily dispatch the remaining two Loaders, too heavily damage to pose enough of a fight to require attack rolls.

Still riding high after the fight, you quite casually stroll up to the giant red Loader, no longer working on the pipes.

"You're RD-3, right?" You inquire.

"Aye... Wot de ye want?" It has a surprising accent. You wonder if that's a bug or a feature. "Och, don jus sit thar gawkin!"

"Right. Brad asked me to check on you. Hope the dust didn't disturb your work too much."

"HAH! Ye think a little scrap like that could do more than scuff my paint?!" He seems quite confident in himself.

There is a momentary lapse in conversation before you resume.

"You wanna fight?"

"Thought ye'd never ask!" The robot laughs before backing up some. His arms flip up, revealing the dual rocket launchers underneath. As if you hadn't had enough of rockets today.

You waste no time, drawing your mashine gun and unloading it point blank into the repurposed WAR Loader. You soak it in corrosive. He screams in pain as his armor and circuits are dissolved. You faintly hear the sound of "Scotland the Brave" as he launches a single rocket at you. You scramble out of its way just in time, using the concussion to launch you above RD-3 while you continue to fire. You hear it sizzle before finally ceasing all movement.

"Tha was a good brawl, laddie! I think I'll just rest me eye a tick 'fore headin back to Maintenance. Send Brad my regards." And with that, the large Loader jerks back and limps his way out of the room.

You turn to look at Henrietta, who has been working at a console while you played with your robot friend.

"I've got the data. Let's get out of here and meet back up with Flora and Simeon." She announces cheerfully.
