Yang isn’t going to make it, you’re still a few hundred feet out and at the rate she’s falling…

You don’t want to think about it.

Looking to Pyrrha you see the shield along her back and shout “Pyrrha! Shield up!”

She gives you a puzzled expression before she registers what your asking and nods. Jumping ahead of both you and Juane she flips on the landing, angling her shield and bracing herself. Seeing this you veer towards her; Running as fast as your brace will let you.

As your foot presses against her shield you feel the shield move over the auburn beauties head, angling you towards Ruby. Applying more Pressure you catapult into the sky, you extend your arms and shoot off like a rocket towards the plummeting Ruby.

You reach the girl in a few seconds and do your best to cradle the girl in your metallic limbs. Thankfully she realizes that you aren't another Grimm trying to eat her and does not flail in your arms.

“First your sister and now you? Seems I should get used to this.” You joke, doing your best to straighten yourself out as the ground continues to close in on the two of you.

“Yang’s your partner?!” She asks, surprised. At your nod she pouts for a moment but then smiles.

“Cool, cool.” She says, though she grunts at the end as you make impact with the earth.

“My partner is a girl, Blake I think her name is. She's cool and like a ninja! How awesome is that?” She asks. For a moment you’re expecting her to scramble out of your arms but she doesn't.

It's a strange sensation for you, but before you let that part of your brain think about it; a thought crosses your mind.

“Ruby...where is Blake?” You ask.

The look on her face tells you everything; the girl is still on the nevermore. Great...just great.

Speaking of Nevermore, you it banking back around towards the open field you found yourself in.

“Scatter!” You yell, not even waiting time to put Ruby down as you run long into the trees closest you. The rest of the group seems to see your panic and do similar, Yang moving towards you as Jaune and Pyrrha Peel off to the right. Pressing your back up to a tree you duck over Ruby, the loud crack and thud of Feathers impacting the ground. Above you you feel the tree lurch and the razor sharp base of one of the massive feathers piercing the tree.

Clutching the girl tighter you wait for the cacophony of sound to end. Once it does you finally let Ruby go and look out into the field; Finding it peppered and riddled with massive feathers. Watching the Nevermore fly overhead you look to Ruby and see Yang pop her head out from behind another tree.

“What’s the plan, Tin-Man?” Yang asks, though you’re honestly unsure. If Blake really is still on the nevermore, you’d need to find some way to take it down; Though equally important was getting to those ruins.

>What the plan?

“Get to the Ruins.” You say, looking at the beast as it slowly arcing back around.

“What?” Yang explains, looking at you like you’d grown two heads.

“That thing will hound us all the way there, take Ruby and get the relics. I’ll keep the Nevermore busy.” You explain, slipping your axe off your back and slipping a pair of slugs into the haft before locking the action.

“Are you insane!? That thing will tear you apart.” She insists, but you level your stare at her.

“Yang. Go, we don’t have time to argue this!” You insist, running out into the open feather-filled clearing.

Bringing Lybras up to your shoulder you fire of one of the two slugs at the beast. You know for a fact that the slugs won’t do much but they are loud and will draw its attention. Watching the beast arc back you brace yourself to have to run when more shots ring out, Pyrrha pinging the beast with her rifle. Not far behind her Jaune Arc is standing, shield and sword in hand.

You groan in frustration; Jaune was NOT who you were expecting to arrive.

“Jaune, Pyrrha, move! Get to the ruins!” You say, running to the duo as you fire again, reloading as you move.

Neither of them seem to budge, Pyrrha instead continuing to fire. “You’re insane if you’re taking this thing on your own, Lucius.” She says, though Jaune seems entirely out of his element given the fact he has no ranged weapon of his own.

>Wat do.

“I might be insane but it’ll keep you alive. Go! Now!” You order, though it probably sounds like you’re yelling at them.

For a moment both of them flinch as they take in the tone of your voice before slowly both begin to peel away before taking off in a sprint. Focusing on the beast a head you fire again and again. You know that you’re doing nothing but pissing it off, but right now that’s what you need to do. Watching it finish its arc and return towards you you take off towards it, shortening the distance between you too.

The Nevermore gives out a screech and brings its wings forward, an absolute torrent of feathers billowing out of its body and towards you.

You Fire off your brace, rocketing forwards as dozens of feathers twice your height slam around you. Rolling to a halt you get up on your knee, firing another two rounds ahead of you before letting pressure build up in your brace again. Within seconds the Nevermore is just ahead of you, its massive talons raking along the ground in an attempt to tear you apart. However in a split second your brace gives a whining hiss and again you are shunted into the air and into the beast's torso.

The downside is you feel your brace go dead, acting now as little more than a paperweight until you reloaded the hydraulic fluid you had just used as fuel to get here. Yet despite all that you manage to begin your climb up the beast towards its back. Making your way up takes a few moments, and by the time you managed to get to a standing-like position the beast has already taken back to the sky.

The girl immediately looks to you in surprise, clearly not having expected any sort of company to arrive on her current vehicle of choice.

“Fancy meeting you here!” You continue, slowly making your way towards her, the weight of your brace not making it easy; Between that and the bucking of the beasts wings it's more akin to trying to walk on waves.

The girl continues to look bewildered as if you’re just a figment of her imagination, though considering that Nevermore usually did their hunting from higher up it wouldn’t surprise you if she was actually hallucinating from oxygen deprivation.

“What are you doing here?!” She asks, bewildered.

“Well, I was in the neighborhood, Figured i’d kill two birds with one stone.” You reply, a smug grin breaking across your face. “Quite literally.” You finish.

You wish Yang we're here to hear that line, you’re almost certain she would have appreciated it; You quickly bury that thought because to do so welcomed bad ideas.

“Did you know I was up here?” She asked, seemingly shocked that you’d bothered to come get her at all; She was Ruby’s partner, it was only natural you’d do something about this.

You nod “Ruby told me I’d probably find you here. Blake, right?” You ask, receiving a confirming nod.

“Alright Blake; Let’s make like birds and get the flock outta here!” You cheer, holding your hand out to her.

You look to the girl and try to give as much of a reassuring smile as you can.

“May want to come with me, because when I said out of here well. You’ll see in a moment.” You assure her.

After a moment's hesitation she agrees and takes your hand. Taking a firm grip you slowly plod forward, making use of your brace’s weight to keep you firm on the beast's body. As quick as your arm can you manage to draw the girls blade out of the beast and ask her if you can borrow it. She looks unsure for a moment but nods.

‘Excellent, the thinner blade should work far better than your massive axe’ you think to yourself as you continue the steady march towards the beast's head.

You feel it trying to crane to get a view of whatever is thumping along its head but thankfully on the top of its skull there’s no real way for that to happen. You extend the rope from the blade with Blakes help and wrap it around her waist before informing her to hold onto you. Ensuring she has one that you grin and watch with fascination as her black blade begins to glow with your semblance golden aura.

Taking a knee you grab the beasts feathers and slowly cut a narrow slit into its neck, its flesh vaporizing into hydrogen. It shrieks in agony but continues to fly, its path leading you towards the ruins. For a split second you worry about this fact, as you can vaguely make out a large group of teenagers and grimm at the base of the ruins.

But then that worry turns into a sadistic gleam; Because all of this may just go off without a hitch.

With your incision done you slide the blade between the beasts steel-like feathers, securing Blake to the beast as you reach with your now free hand into the beast's body. After a few second of rummaging you feel something long, narrow and hard brush against your fingertips. Ignoring the warm, oozing feeling of Grimm’s blood around your fingers you grip the object; knowing it to be the beasts Spinal Column.

(Cont. Because you’re gonna really like what you just did, fuckers)
>>
>>1786347

Pushing down on the rod in your hands the beast begins to dip slightly, its beak now pointing to the grass just beyond the horde of Grimm that was gathering at its base. You’re trying to think of exactly where you want your newly made Grimm missile to land when you see something that makes your blood freeze.

A Death Stalker.

You know exactly where you’re going to park the beast now.

Giving a few experimental tugs on your new flight stick, you send the beast hurdling towards the ground before forcing it to elevate. Without its wings to beat and gain altitude, you were now skimming only a few feet above the grassy hills that rolled towards the stone monoliths. With the exhilaration of speed and adrenaline you can't help but laugh maniacally before looking to Blake.
“This is your captain speaking! Thank you for joining us today on Grimm airlines, our fight is a direct line from beacon academy to the ruins. Please keep your hands in feet inside the massive death beast at all times, thank you!” You say before looking ahead, narrowing your eyes at your perceived target.

You quickly order Blake to brace herself as you also get low on the beast, bringing your free hand up to shield your head as debris and bullets begin to pepper along your flightpath. The rest of the students don’t realize you're up here but they will soon enough.

There is a sickening sound of bone colliding with bone as you hit your target, your massive fleshy missile cutting a swathe through the grim. Beowulf's and Boarbatusk’s being battered clear of your path and you can see the glowing yellow stinger of the Death Stalker hanging limply to the side as your impromptu flight comes to a quite literally crashing halt, a plume of smoke and dust surrounding you.

Coughing through the smoke you stand up and look at Blake. “You okay? I’m sorry if I messed that up...first time and all.” You explain, chuckling weakly. Helping her get the blade out of the now dead beasts plumage you hand it to her before taking one of the smaller feathers in your hands. You could see it falling apart before your eyes but instead turn it to gold and decide to pin it through your jacket.

The tip was still razor sharp after all.

“The hell happened to the Nevermore?! Does anyone see Lucius or Blake?” You hear a voice call, though it sounds like Ruby more than anyone.

Waving the smoke away you jump down from the beast's head, Blake following suit. As you step through the mangled and torn apart bodies of Grimm you hear a plethora of weapons both ranged and melee being readied. Though you understand their need to be tense as far as you know most of the Grimm are either dead or fleeing.

You decide to try and break the tension.

Coughing as you exit the smoke you begin to do what you can to remove the dust from your jacket and blood from your hand, though thankfully it’s already evaporating away. Looking at the group of Hunters and Huntresses in training all looking wide eyed as you exit the cloud alongside Blake is an image you wish you could take a picture of.

“What? I told you guys I could distract the Nevermore.” You say, straight faced as Yang, Ruby, Jaune and Phyrrha look at you as if you’ve grown two extra heads and four arms.

Before you can even say anything Yang runs forward and takes you into a crushing hug; you can practically feel the servos in your arms straining and the beat of her heart pounding against yours. You can hear her murmur “You jerk.” almost at a whisper but you manage to pick it up.

Ruby soon joins in on the moment, begging for details on how you had done what you had, and if you could teach her; Though Yang immediately yells at her sister, and threatens you with great physical harm if you do.

It’s nice to see that things haven’t changed that much.

Out of the corner of your Eye you see Mars glaring, though his eyes are cast not at you, but the Nevermore behind you.

“Tin-Man what did I tell you about the LAST time you tried this!” You hear Khrone say before you feel his crook swat you in the head. You wince slightly at the impact and manage to look at least a tiny bit sheepish.

“That I’d warn you before I did it.”

“That’s right! But look at what you did! You nearly crashed this thing into us and OFF A CLIFF!” he exclaims, gesturing wide to the expansive gorge that surrounded the ruins.

“What do you have to say for yourself?” He asks, in mock glare.

You pause, looking between the Nevermore, Khrone and the gathrering of huntsmen.

“Uh….Don’t get your feathers all riled up?” You ask weakly.

(Cont)

Looking to the bridge and the alcove inside you gesture to the group.

“Ladies first.” You say, getting a grin out of Yang as she heads down the bridge, hips swaying a small amount.

It takes you a lot of willpower not to bob your head along with them.
Ruby rushes off ahead as well to join her sister and you can’t help but smile at the two, before getting to one knee. Quietly popping open the side paneling of your brace you retrieve a small metal tube from your jacket. Sliding out the old tube from your leg you install the new one and immediately sigh in relief as your ability to walk easily returns to you once more.

Standing you see much of student body has made its way into the ruins and you decide to join them. Once you manage to get across the bridge you find a series of podiums. Each has two items, a medallion and a chess piece.

Walking along the outer wall of the alcove you stop at one particularly interesting piece.

It is hewn from black obsidian into the shape of a large knight in full plate. Though it is a simple statue what you notice is that in places the statue is chipped, though instead of being rough again these edges were all smoothed to an imperceptible shine.

Beneath the statue was a medallion of a lighthouse set in silver. Why the two were together you were unsure as every member of the group had found either a statue of some sort or a medallion, or both.

Just what were you supposed to take? Both, Neither?

You shrug and simply grab both before making your way out onto the bridge where many of the students have gathered.

Parking yourself next to Khrone you put your elbows on the crumbling rock railing of the bridge. He seemed no different than he usually was, given what he no doubt faced. Seeing you lean against the bridge he couldn't help but chuckle.

“You know when I signed up up to join this academy I figured we could lay low, you know? It would be some easy four years of girls, guns and Grimm.” He mused, and you could only feel embarrassed at the stunt you had pulled.

“Yet here we are, not even twenty hour hours and you've made quite the showing. I should have seen this coming.” He jabs, laughing before patting you on the shoulder.

“You know I don't ALWAYS try to show you, up, Pal.” You reply, smiling as you hear the other prospective students around you. “I just see Grimm and I take care of them.”

He hums, understanding “I know, I know. But Lucy?” He pauses, looking up at you.

“Yeah?”

“Save one for me next time?” He asks, and you can't help but chuckle.

“It's a deal. Next big one is yours.” You swear.

And with that you settle into a quiet talk, milling over just what it is you had managed to retrieve and sharing the details of your trial. He perks up at hearing about your encounter with Yang and you have to fight vehemently to deny your...interest.

If you deny it enough maybe it won't be true.

After another twenty minutes pass the low rumble of Bullheads fills the air as a trio of the craft land to collect you.

Stepping into the middle Bullhead you find a seat and quickly strap yourself into it, closing your eyes. With the adrenaline slowly sapping out of you the energy you had disappeared and being able to sit was a blessing. A few moments later another figure joins you, sitting beside you. You don't even have to open your tired eyes, the scent of lavender gives it away.

“Not a morning person, Tin-Man?” She asks, parroting the question you had asked her earlier that morning. You only shrug before giving a small smirk “what can I say? I had to fly all the way to the ruins, my arms are tired.”

The joke manages to get a snort out of her.

A few moments later Ruby and Blake also enter the craft, taking the last two seats across from you. Hearing the doors shut you feel the sudden pressure as the craft takes off. Though it's a short flight, Ruby manages to catch you up on how her and Blake had met in the Forrest and how they encountered the Nevermore.

If you were honest you enjoyed the story more than you'd admit.

After a few more minutes the bullhead touched down on the grassy open pavilion of Beacon before ushering you down towards the assembly hall.

Watching Ruby and Blake go off you instead prop yourself up beneath one of the trees by the landing site, with Yang following suit. You open your mouth to ask why she’s doing so when you remember that you’re partners and it was probably obvious why she was doing so. Instead you inform her:

“You don’t have to wait with me, you know.”

She looks at you with a slight smile before looking up into the sky, the next bullhead making its descent.

“Yeah well, the last time I left you alone you went and nearly got yourself killed, Tiger. If Khrone isn’t around to keep you sane it’s my job as your partner.” She informs you, gently punching your shoulder.

You look abashed and blush at the implication “Yang, I was fine. Really!” You insist, crossing your arms and leveling a weak glare at her.

It would only occur to you later that she called you tiger again.

“Bullshit” she says “No one just casually takes out a Nevermore like it’s no big deal.” She continues, before she returns the glare. “And what did Khrone mean by LAST time?” She continues, crossing her own arms.

Before you can even begin to try and deny your….knack for reckless endangerment you hear the bullhead land across from you, it’s jetwash blooming the grass as Khrone, Ren, Nora and Weiss depart. You can barely contain your smile as you quickly get up.

“Well would you look at that! Khrone’s here! Time to go and join the rest of everyone!” You say, though you manage to convince yourself that it didn’t sound as panicked as you know it did.

You don’t make eye contact with Yang as you join their small gathering. Khrone and Ren nod to you, Weiss just looks at you strangely for a moment (You haven’t done anything to this girl what’s her deal?) and Nora?

“You have to teach me how you did that! I wanna be able to fly on a nevermore! It’s like that movie with the dragon and that kid!” She exclaims, busying herself with demanding that you teach her the practiced (See: Improvised) art of Grimm taming.

You didn’t have the heart to tell her you had killed the beast, and the look Ren gave you made sure of that.

It doesn’t take long to finally arrive into the auditorium, surprisingly there is still a sizeable crowd already present. Thankfully the area where Ruby and Blake had gone to where the still vacant. Part of you think that it’s due to your rather stellar (see: Terrifying) takedown of the Nevermore in your section of the forest. However you didn’t look a gifthorse in the mouth, plopping down beside Ruby, with Yang beside you and Khorne and company taking up the seats behind you.

Almost immediately you all dropped into simple conversations, idly passing the time as more and more students made their way to the auditorium and taking their seats.

Finally the doors are shut and Ozpin takes the stage, and without a fanfare he begins to call up groups of four. Overtime you begin to notice a pattern, each group was based off of a statue that they had recovered from their own ruins. Looking down at the Black Knight in your hand you began to worry.

Who would you be paired with? Khrone and Weiss? Mars and Violet?

It sent shivers down your spine.

Yet on and on the selections went until finally your group was left alone in the auditorium. It seemed Ozpin had intended to solo out all of you and after the first time you spoke, you had an idea as to why. However the the man spoke up, and your thoughts turned to focus on the man.

“Now you may be wondering why I left all of you for last.” Ozpin began, putting both of his hands atop his cane. “To be honest there had been a plan but thanks to Mr. Ferrums rather...Impractical strategy, that plan did not go as intended. But enough was seen to go forward.” He says, before walking to the front of the stage.

“Your particular group has shown, individually and as teams to be capable of larger flexibility than many of the huntsmen in training we have accepted into our Academy. Some it is due to your heritage, some to your training, and maybe even luck. Whatever the reason for your being in this particular group now is perhaps the last chance you will have to make a choice. Stay or leave.”

Nobody says a word, and with a smirk Ozpin turns to look at the board behind him. One by one each of your names and pictures appear until all sixteen of you are present. “By your silence I take it you are all interested? Good.” He says and taps his cane against the stage and again the screen begins to change.

Your portraits sink into the background and an acronym begins to form along the top. Combat, Assassination, Demolitions and Reconnaissance Experts. C.A.D.R.E

Those words fill you with a dread you had not expected.

“Your group has shown to be an eclectic bunch of individuals, all skilled in a plethora of fields and capable of acting under simulated extreme.” Ozpin explains, your portraits shifting beneath the words.

“My hopes is that with enough time and training we can make take those traits and bring them to the forefront and from, what I believe, will be the best Hunters and Huntresses this side of Remnant. After a very long, and I do mean long, discussion with the staff and...OTHER advisors; Your education and training will be different in a few key ways.” He continues, the smirk not leaving his face.

“First and foremost, your teams will be far more flexible.” At his words the portraits for Mars, Ruby, Cardin and Yourself light up and shift above the rest as the C.A.D.R.E letters fade away.

“Team Leaders will be able to pick and choose members from the reset of the C.A.D.R.E, even other Team Leaders.” He continues, with portraits from the rest of the group filling below them at random.

“You will all stay together in your own wing of the dorms though that will be decided by the Cadre Leader, who must be voted for out of the Team Leaders by you all.” The Headmaster explains “However, take heed; Whoever you vote into the position of Cadre Leader will have final say on Team Organization, Extracurricular activities and will chose the missions you are all sent on. Choose wisely.” He warns before going quiet.

It seems he wants your votes now and immediately there is a break out of conversation as the twelve remaining members bicker and argue who should lead.

A few more minutes of this goes back and forth before Ozpin speaks up.

“Perhaps you’d like to cast your vote one by one?” He asks, clearly amused at the bickering between groups.
Finally seeing the sense of this you all line up at the stairs and one by one the votes are cast. By the time you come up to the stage you’re already dreading the results. Many of the people had already voted either you or Mars, with Cardin at a close third and at that point it felt like double suicide; On the one hand you’d be under the command of Mars, and the other would mean you’re the leader of fifteen other students.

You wanted to hide, but you knew that wasn’t possible.

Looking at all the group you see all sorts of faces expecting the same bravado and skill you had shown them previously shine through. But you knew, and Khrone and Mars and Violet knew that you were the farthest thing from that. Sure in a fight you could handle yourself but this?! This was like trying to teach a Grimm to read.

And so you said the only vote you felt would make sense to you.

“Ruby Rose.”

Ruby seems to be completely shocked at your vote of confidence, and the smile you see on the on her face twists your chest like string. But it’s the truth, of all four of you she, you felt, was the best possible leader. This fact seemed to make those who went behind you change their minds, as some votes also went to the Red Reaper. (Though how many of them were because they felt the same or simply were following you, you weren’t sure)

This doesn’t change the end result, and try as you might you have failed to divert the storm ahead of you as all the votes are tallied in.

You and Mars are tied and the final vote was down to your partner, Yang. You knew who she would vote for, Mars knew, everyone knew. The Vote was cast and while many cheered you felt like your insides were being pulled apart like taffy.

You were the Cadre Leader.

You try and keep yourself composed as the cheers calm down, though you’re about as successful at this as Khrone is at succeeding in picking up girls. Your heart is exploding in your chest and you’re almost certain that the others can see it attempting to jump out of your chest but you aren’t so sure.
Your brain is too busy trying to come with the terms of being responsible for every single one of them, including your old aggressors.

Before you can even attempt to speak up and argue against the decision Ozpin claps his hand on your shoulder and speaks. “Now then, to business. Now that your Cadre Leader has been chosen I should get onto the arrangements of where you’ll be staying.” As he says this the screen changes again, and shows an image of the Western Dormitory block.

“The entire Second floor has been opened to your group, with a grand total of Eight rooms for you to use however you see fit. Anything that the school can provide will be given, within reason.” He informs you as a cutout of the floor is shown on the screen.

The rooms are sizable, no doubt each room had been meant for complete teams, though you find it odd that you’d be given far more rooms than you’d really need.

“Uh...why so many rooms, headmaster?” He asks and he gives a smile the same knowing smile he has always given you.

“Well, like I said, you can use them as you wish. Split teams up into their partner teams, or split them by gender or even just keep all the Team Leaders together. Perhaps use an empty room as a workshop or storeroom for supplies. What is your choice?”

You quietly explain your plans to Ozpin, doing your best to keep the smile on your face from giving away any of your ideas. After a moment Ozpin nods.

“We’ll be able to set up all the spare rooms within the next day or two; That shouldn’t be a problem considering classes start tomorrow.” He says before looking to the group again.

“I have high hopes for this experimental team. Though things will no doubt be strenuous in the coming days as you all come into contact with one another, but I see your ambition to become Huntsmen outweighing these frictions.” With that he bids you all a good afternoon and stalks off. Leaving you alone with your new command and a decision to be made.

You decide that for now you should probably settle everyone in, as lunch could always wait. Or you could just order pizza and have a communal party. Either or was good.

Making your way down the stone path to the main dormitory area of Beacon Academy. As you walked you couldn’t help but feel the sinking feeling in your gut as the other first years and even 2nd and 3rd year students watched your small army make its way to its building. No one had really spoken about what had happened to you yet, but people seemed to latch onto the fact that you all had left as a group, something that must not have been common.

You do your best to try and ignore the staring.

Climbing up the stairs you quickly denote the four rooms closest to the stairwell to be the dorm rooms for the team and the immediate chiming of “dibs” calls out as Ruby, with Blake, Nora and Ren in tow pile into the first dorm on the left. Following this pattern was Mars, Violet, Weiss and Khrone take the first on the right.

You pity your friend as he pleads with his eyes for mercy.

This leaves both Cardin’s team and your own to take the remaining two, and that comes without question or even answer as Yang rushes right past you and claims the second dorm on the left for your team. Cardin simply gives you a shrug and barks for his team to pile in, to which they eagerly obey.

Stepping into the room it is sparsely decorated, with four single beds and some dressers. Bookshelves lined the area beneath the window and the communal bathroom on the righthand wall, the left hand side being taken up entirely by a massive closet.

So are we in a team with Jaune and Pyrrha? If so, make bunkbeds on the far side of the room, separated by curtains with each gender sticking to a side. Have the front half of the room open so both sides have access to the bathroom and closet.

Looking at the inefficient use of space you sigh and immediately ask Yang for a hand. By the time the words “Bunk Beds” are leaving your lips she is on board, and the two of you hoist the bed up and set it down, each of the posts lining up with one another. Before she can even ask about how to stabilize them your hands are glowing gold and one by one you go to each post and turn it to titanium bonding both of the beds together.

You repeat this processes with the other beds, a quick ‘dibs’ coming out of Yangs mouth as she clambers up onto the left top bunk. Considering the amount of weight in your arms you’re more than happy to let her have that. Meanwhile it seems that Jaune and Pyrrha are having a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors to decide who gets top bunk; With Jaune cheering as he succeeds in besting the girl, though something tells you she let him win.

Just a hunch.

You also move the desks that you had not seen before together, leaving a large open space that Yang DEMANDS be filled with a couch and television, with Jaune nodding his agreements. You make a note of it and promise to inform the staff the next day. From here it’s as simple as finally unpacking the few spare sets of clothes you had as well as dumping your bag filled with tools beneath your bed.

However as everything finally begins to wind down it hits you again, the position of leadership. You’d never been in charge of anything so big in your life and yet you had been voted in entirely on a basis of skill in combat. Outside of that? You were a mess and you knew it.

Feeling the lump of anxiety quickly bubbling up into a storm you decide to:

Falling back onto your bed you pull out your Scroll and type out a quick message to Khrone.

“Why did you vote for me? You know me better than anyone! I’m not ready for this!”

It's only a few seconds later when he sends a reply back:

“You’re right, I do know you best. And I think that out of every option there you were the best, and you will be the best.”

You scrunch your face at it. You can’t understand what he’s talking about. Mars was, beyond anything the best fighter you had known at Icarus. He was charismatic and was capable of getting people to follow his example. And you voice that fact to him. It takes him far longer, but given the length of the message you get in return, it doesn’t surprise you.

“Yes, Mars is good at what he does, but you know exactly what he lacks. He lacks Empathy and to him to being a leader is only natural; He’s ALWAYS been the best. But you know what? You proved yesterday you could kick his ass, and in eight years together we’ve stuck through thick and thin. You know why? Because for what little experience you have, you make up for it with a true concern for everyone that we now are stuck with for the next four years. You’ll go to the ends of the earth for the people you care about and it shows. I know everything i’m telling you is probably doing nothing to help; In fact it’s probably only making things worse. But you’re better than you give yourself credit for, and I think it's time you see it for yourself.”

You try to argue with him about it, but he doesn’t respond. Either he’s gotten into a fight with Mars or he wants you to try and find a better way to cope with this.

Standing up you quickly make your way for the doorway. You say you’re just going to take a walk and give them a weak smile before darting for the roof. You almost regretted agreeing with Khrone to come to Beacon, things had been rough out in the wilderness but now? Now you were stuck as the leader of a bunch of Teenagers when you could barely manage to talk to girls.

And now your only real friend in this place was leaving you to ‘handle’ it? Great.

Resting your arms on the lip of the roof you let yourself breathe, trying to figure out exactly how you’re going to handle all this you hear the door open up again and an unlikely face peek its head out.

It’s Jaune.

“Hi…” You weakly say, raising your hand in greetings. He returns the wave before sauntering up beside you.

“You looked like a mess before you left, Yang and Pyr are searching the grounds but I figured you might be up here.” He explains, chuckling weakly.

“And why would that be your problem? I’m fine, really.” You assure, though Jaune puts a hand up.

“Look, you saved my ass back there in the forest. I owe you for that. Plus, I know when someone’s afraid when I see it.” He counters “So, if you don’t want to talk I get it, but i’ll listen.”

You look at Jaune for a moment, and seeing the resolve he has to sit there and get something you decide to, at least in part, tell him.

“It’s a long and complicated and shitty story. But...making all of that super short; For the past eight years Khrone and I, you know, the short guy? Yeah sort of just wandered around Remnant. Not like normal kids with families but just us, and all the wild wilderness between us. I can’t even tell you the amount of Grimm i’ve seen and killed and all the horrible shit i’ve seen along the way; But what I can tell you is that in all that time the only human comfort i’ve ever had was him.” You begin, looking up at the sky. You can feel yourself shaking as you relay these simple facts to you.

“So other than being a socially inept dork who can barely read and write i’ve also never been a ‘leader’ yeah I can fight and do cool things but beyond that? I’ve never handled anything this big and I don’t want to mess it up. I don’t want to make the calls that might get you all killed because i’m not ready.” You finish, and as relieved as you are, you feel sick. You feel like Jaunes just gonna laugh and run away and tell everyone you’re a huge failure because you a-

“So?” He asks quietly and you whirl to face him, eyes wide.

“What do you mean, so?” You ask, incredulous that he’d simply brush it all off.

“Lucius, before I met you I lied my way into this school without an Aura and without any training at all. I almost died when we were launched and if it weren’t for Pyrrha I would have died shortly after. That Grimm was going to eat me if you and Yang hadn’t done anything, and if you didn’t unlock my aura? Well...i’d be a disgrace...well, more than I already am at least.” He starts, though as much as it sounds like a sob story you know he isn’t finished.

“But thats why I’m at Beacon, right? To learn to be better. Maybe Ozpin expects you to fail, but maybe he also sees some potential. You told me in the forest you lied your way in here too; There’s no way then that he doesn’t know about the truth. But that’s just me.” He shrugs, looking down.

“I can imagine how freaked out you must be, but...that’s all I can really say.” He finishes, looking up at you “Now, come on. The girls are going to grab lunch, it would be bad of us as partners to skip out on them.”

You nod to Jaune before holding out a hand to stop him.

“Thanks, Jaune….really.” You start, fumbling with your words as you try and put together a coherent sentence that isn’t a mumbling mess. However with that failing you decide to try and veer back to a topic that you can talk about.

“If..If you need help with weapons or armor or anything don’t hesitate to tell me.” You say after a moment and he nods.

“Sure thing; Considering how useless I was during initiation that might not be a bad plan.” He answers, opening the door and allowing the two of you to head down to the main floor before wandering the grounds to the Cafeteria.

Aside from Yang and Pyrrha you also find that many of the other teams have arrived to no doubt fill up after their strenuous morning of Grimm slaying. It bothers you for a moment to see that both Mars and Cardin’s groups have sat together but you also realize Khrone has taken perch beside Ren.

Looking between the two groups, you cannot help but feel that there is a tear here. Be it because of your past with Mars or Cardin aside, if any of your four years here were to be even remotely good you had to stamp this issue out now rather than later. Looking to Yang and the others you take a first tentative step, and then another. Standing between the two groups you sit, looking between them before asking them to join up.

At first everyone looks confused between each other and then the group they were distanced from. Mars even glares at you and you stare back with an unflinching gaze. Mind you on the inside you are panicking full fucking kilter but he didn’t have to know that. Eventually winning the silent bout of wills he concedes and slides over.

While at first the silence is deafening for a moment eventually there is consensus and small conversations begin to break out across the table.

It isn’t perfect, but it’s progress.

After quickly digging through your meal, you continue to eat and chat with the new group around you when a few begin to ask about an activity to celebrate your graduation and formation as the Cadre, soon enough the votes pick a few choices and you are left to decide.

Yang and many of the others (mostly the older boys) insist on going out for drinks and dancing, and she even suggests a good club in town that would be the perfect place for your outing. Many seem content with this idea, and while you yourself are terrified. Even as you nod at Yang and begin to plan the basic plan you feel your nerves skyrocketing.

This was going to perhaps be the most challenging trial you would have during your stay at Beacon, you could feel it.

Breaking for the dorms you agree with the other teams to head for Beacon’s airship dock and take the ferry into the city, and in your head a silent vow to do everything in your power to not dance. It was bad enough that you had the social skills of a wallflower but you were going out to a place with alcohol, dancing, partying and...Girls.

The Nevermore was easier to have dealt with than this.

Resigning to your fate you decide to pass the hours doing:
>A. Working with Ruby on something
>B. Shoot the shit with (Insert person of choice here)
>C. Work on your own
>D.Other.

Looking at your scroll you see that you have three hours to burn you decide to reach out to Ruby. Seeing as you had the time you had to guess she was just as bored, or at least was as nervous as you were about the club. Sending out a quick message to Ruby the reply of ‘YES’ is almost immediate and chuckling to yourself you make your way to her dorm. Before you can even knock the door slams open and two smalls hands pull you in.

You give a quick wave to Ren and Nora who are on their bed, and a nod to Blake reading. Sitting down beside the Red Reaper you pop open your Scroll and begin to peruse over your notes for Project Prometheus.

As the hours roll buy you and Ruby go back and forth and the rough blueprint for a prototype system begins to take shape. It is bulkier than your arms and would not be feasible as a “Light” weapon, but you at least had managed to figure out exactly what the shape and theoretical alloy to make it work.

You’ll have to wait until the workshops are installed within the next few days to actually get to work, but the fact that the plans were in place were better than nothing. However as plans begin to get closer to completion, the hour grows close to leave and even Yang messages you to get back to the dorm and get Changed.

Walking into the dorm you find it empty. They had probably already went down to the dock, you think as you shrug off your jacket and take off your shirt. Making short work of your bandages, you leave them in a pile on the bed before moving to your dresser. Fumbling with the latch you don’t even hear the click of the door as you searched for more appropriate clothes for the night out (Even if you don’t like it).

You do however hear the gasp.

Turning around you stand to your full height to see Yang clearly stunned at the sight of you, though why she’d be surprised baffles you. She’s seen you plenty of times in the short time you’ve known her. What’s changed now.

“What’s up?” You ask, tilting your head as she continues to let her eyes wander.

“W...what happened to you?” She asked, though you can’t tell if it’s from shock or horror.

“Huh?” You reply, not understanding the question.

“Your back.” She reiterates, gesturing for you to turn around.

You do so, still confused before you look down and realize that your shirt lays bunched up on your bed. Meaning that she had seen your torso bare.

Meaning she had seen your scars.

You go to turn when you feel her hand against your back and you freeze. You shiver slightly as she traces along one side of the scars before trailing down the other. You feel yourself trembling slightly, desperately trying to find a means to shrink away from her. Few people had ever seen your scars other than Khroe and yet now not only was Yang looking at them, but touching them.

They were ghastly, ugly things. Like marked claws they were hewn into your very flesh, leaving the skin twisted and pulled around the stumps where your arms now connected. Khrone had once told you that they were like wings but you could only give a cynical laugh. They weren’t anything as such, nothing more than painful reminders of Icarus’s Fall.

Finally your brain comes to terms with what just happened, or more correctly what was happening and before she can even ask you excuse yourself. Grabbing your clothes and quickly closing the door to the bathroom behind you, though you’re almost certain that you had succeeded in slamming it in your rush. Pressing your back to the door the only thing keeping you from sliding down it is your brace.

It feels like there is a hole in your chest, and each breath only makes that hole larger. How had you forgotten about any of that? Your scars, one of the many that you bared from your time at Icarus; At least, one of the many physical scars you carried. If the constant reminders of who you REALLY were by Violet and Mars’s very presence weren’t bad enough, now Yang had seen them.

The next four years were going to be hell.

After a moment of collecting yourself (though, more accurate would be burying all those tightly wound emotions back down where the light never shone) you step into the shower and turn the water on, shivering as the water rapidly heats up. The shower gives you plenty of time to mentally prepare yourself for the evening ahead. Things were already looking down but you never know!

Quickly drying off and getting dressed you open the door to see that the dorm is empty once again. Collecting your scroll you see that there are a few messages indicating that everyone was either in the lobby or at the dock itself.

>>
>>1792581

Pulling your Jacket on and making sure everything is in its proper place you make your way down the short staircase to the lobby of the Dorms. You made sure this time to bandage up your arms fully, as you had decided to go unarmed for the evening. Though your previous excursion into the city had proven that may be a bad plan, you had a sinking suspicion that a club wouldn’t allow you to keep such an obvious weapon as a BATTLE AXE into their establishment.

However they couldn’t really take away your arms, at least, you hoped they couldn’t take your arms.

You’re quick to notice that Ruby’s team as well as yours have taken the time to wait, though seeing Yang fills you with an uncomfortable sense of dread.the feeling doesn’t get any better when she seems to flinch at your gaze.

Great, you’d messed it all up already.

You do your best to shake the whispers in your head as you look to Ruby and give her a smile, gesturing to the door with your head as and she nods. As a group of eight you take the short walk across campus to the airdock. While much of the conversation that goes back and forth with relative ease you can’t help but dread the silence Yang seems to have and after one too many looks at the girl she finally looks back.

The look in her eyes says that there would be conversation between the two of you later, a conversation you would now be dreading the whole of the evening.

Arriving at the dock you look at the rest of your new cadre and see that all of them are equally dressed down for the casual evening; And you can’t help but stare for a moment longer than you should at Violet, who had dressed far more revealing than you liked. Shaking it away you nod to the group.

Looking between the Cadre leaders you already know that yourself and Ruby are on good enough terms, and that Mars will probably only listen to your orders. That leaves you only one real person you can approach to be Cardin Winchester, who you had only met during his harassment of Velvet. You hadn’t yet spoken to the man, but you suppose there was always a first time for everything.

Walking up to the large huntsmen he’s the first to speak.

“I’m surprised you’re talking, Tin-Man. Mars told me you’re not the leader type, more the scared of your own shadow type.” He jeers, crossing his arms.

>Wat Do?

You can’t have this. You don’t like it, you REALLY don’t like it; But you have to channel your inner Mars. Straightening to meet his gaze you give a slight glare.

“Are you really going to listen and be the lackey to Mars? The ex-champ I knocked out, or are you going to listen to the guy who turned a Nevermore into an anti-Grimm Missile?” You ask, watching his eyes flinch for a moment before you add “ Oh, and all of that was in twenty-four hours.” You remind and watch him finally break eye contact. Before you can congratulate yourself though the feeling of wrongness at it all settles in and your gaze softens.

“Look.” You begin and you watch Cardin look back at you, no doubt hearing the slight waver in your voice. “I’m not asking you to do everything I say, hell i’m not even asking you to like me. But like it or not we’re going to be working together for the next four years.” You continue, breaking eye contact and trying to find something to look at that wasn’t the anti-faunus team leader. “All i’m asking is to be able to work together. You have a problem, take it up with me.” You finish.

For a moment you don’t know how the brute takes the admission but after a pause he chuckles, before nodding. “I’ll keep it in mind, boss.” He replies, giving a one-handed salute before turning to his team.

Well, that went well; At least, you THINK it did.

Finally after a few more minutes of waiting one of the Academy’s bullheads lands on one of the docks smaller bays and you all cram in.

By the time all of you had piled in you were all mostly shoulder to shoulder in the cramped shuttlecraft. At first it wasn’t so bad but as more and more bodies piling in it quickly became far closer than you were comfortable with. Feeling the bullhead lurch on take-off you finally realized who it was that you had been crammed up against.

Weiss; More particularly Weiss Schnee….of the Schnee Dust Company.

The girl you gave a near solid gold statue of another girl you had only met the night before.

...Fuck.

You try your best to ignore the smaller girl as best as you can, but considering there wasn’t even enough room to turn around to even attempt to hide yourself (as well as a six foot tall person could in a sardine can of a transport). However none of that made much of a difference when instead she began to speak to you.

“So...Lucius, yes?” She asks, far more quiet than you’d have thought she’d use to start up conversation, but you nod in acknowledgement at her questioning.

The question doesn’t even make sense, before yesterday you had never met the girl, let alone anyone related to her as far as you knew. Yet she was asking if someone (again, you hadn’t really had any conversation outside of Khrone in the better part of a decade) had sent you to Beacon. Technically you did, but again that was Khrone.

“I…I’m afraid I don’t know what you mean, Weiss.” You manage to stammer back “I...Khrone and I just decided Beacon would be the best place for us.” You try to explain, but she only narrows her eyes.

“Come on, be frank with me. There is NO way that any random kid just takes down a Nevermore like that, and if Khrone is in on it that only makes perfect sense!” She argues, jabbing you in the chest with her finger.

She wasn’t wrong, in theory no ordinary student would do something like you had. But you were a survivor of Icarus; Though that wasn’t something you had managed to do without losing some important pieces but you couldn’t really explain that.

“Khrone and I….had some rather good teachers.” You manage to explain, though Weiss again cuts you off; Though cut off is more by taking your scroll from your jacket.

“A series six Scroll? Come on; Let’s be real here, between your scroll, your skills and sudden out of the blue act.” She sighs “I won’t rat you out, just stay out of my way and do what I tell you and you won’t be fired.” She promises though, handing back your scroll.

Before you can even argue with the woman the Bullhead rambles to a halt, and the moment the door swings open people begin to pile out of the confines of the metal beast.

You quickly scramble up to the front, and after stumbling for a moment manage to get up beside Yang. She looks at you for a moment before giving you a small smile. You manage to return a weak one of your own before you speak up.

“So...Weiss thinks i’m some sort of secret agent.” You chuckle and she looks at you for a moment before chuckling.

“Get out. You? A secret agent.” She asks snorting at the implication. “Tin-man the moment I met you, you were a stammering mess. She’s gotta be joking.” She assures, patting you on the shoulder.

You nod, and then settle into a comfortable silence. Though comfortable wasn’t the best way to put it, as there was now a massive elephant in the room...or your back; Same difference.

After a few moments of what seems as random wandering you finally ask her exactly where this club is. There’s a short pause before she admits that she hadn’t been to the club before. She had been planning to the night that the robbery went down, but when she got the call to pick up her sister she had decided against it.

Apparently the place was pretty renown in the area, though you couldn’t see how with a name like ‘Junior’s’.

Finally you reach the club, the low rumble of the bass hitting you even outside the establishment.

The music as you entered the club was even louder than outside. It rattled your arms and was truly not the sort you’d enjoy; But for the Cadre you’d deal with it. You gesture to Khrone, who nods and speaks to one of the waiters to get a table. Within a few minutes you have one of the large alcoved tables, and after shrugging off your jack it you hang it on the corner of the alcove before making your way to the bar.

As you do, you pass a number of your companions, some are dancing on the stage with the other patrons, some are standing near the sides, drinks or not. You weren’t really sure how it was all going if you were honest.

Parking yourself alongside Cardin and Mars you nod to the Bartender who quickly rushes over.

“Yes, how may I help you?” He asked, looking at you.

“I’d like a drink, if you could.” You say, though you look down at the bar for a moment before the bartender simply raises an eyebrow.

“Any….drink in particular?” He asks and your mind goes dead. Sure in the past you had dabbled in some drinks but they were all usually the same; Settlements just making homebrewed alcohol out of whatever they could. An actual civilized bar? You weren’t sure.

“Uh...I...Anything you’d suggest?” You ask him sheepishly. Your inexperience is showing and the smirk the man gives does not fill you with confidence.

“I do have something you may be interested in, not a common drink for sure but strong and would certainly be an….interesting experience.” He muses, turning and walking down the bar before returning with a shoulder bottle. Made of dark glass you can’t even tell what is in the bottle, nor make out what it might be.

The sound of the bottle hitting the bar seems to attract Cardin and Mars’s attention and they crowd around you. After being prompted they agree to also partake, grinning; No doubt excited to test the bravado of one another….and unfortunately you. However the bartender seems to be completely ignorant of this air as he sets three small glasses on the bar in front of the bottle.

“Now, this stuff isn’t cheap to make and few places on Remnant. This particular mixture is one we make here at the club using some of the best ingredients we can get from around the continents and as far as I know we’re the only ones to also add Dust.” He says, holding the bottle up for all to hear before unscrewing the bottle with a flourish before setting the cap down as if it were made of glass. Immediately the stench of alcohol and pungently sweet herbs dances along your nose.

(Cont)
>>
>>1794044

“Most places have a name for this stuff, it has a general name but we here at Juniors call this potent beast something to match the uniqueness of its texture, color and taste.” He continues, pouring slowly into the small glass; Though as it pours from the bottle it’s color is a vibrant, transparent red. Repeating this process with all three glasses he then slides a bizarre looking spoon over the glass, placing a single cube of sugar over it.

“The name we have is a simple one but once you see the color you’ll understand why.” Finishing this he strikes a match and lights the cubes, dropping them one by one into the mixture below erupting them in fire. Not even a second later he pours a light blue liquid, you presume it to be the dust-infused water, the fire extinguishing almost instantly. Looking at the glass you cannot help but be amazed at the transformation the liquid has gone under.

No longer a more pinkish red it has darkened considerably, now a deep and stagnant red.

“Gentlemen, I present to you: Grimm’s Blood.”

Each of you take one of the glasses and raise them to toast. Before any of them can go to down the drink you speak up. “To the Cadre.” To which they echo, with Mars doing so only after Cardin.

Simultaneously the three of you tip your heads back and drink. While you don’t see the immediate reactions to the other, you focus on your own drink. The taste of alcohol is immediate but the moment it passes the taste of spices and herbs begin to splash along your tastebuds and it brings you back to the strangely fun times you and Khrone had in the wilderness. Of Roasting nuts in winter and the crackling of wood, the smell of trees and flowers in bloom. The crisp taste of mint and tea.

It’s a weirdly nostalgic taste.

Looking to your companions they seemed to be faring worse than yourself. To your left Cardin is sputtering and coughing, trying to keep the tears from spilling. Mars is only a little better, grimacing with the glass still to his lips. The bartender looks surprised that you’ve taken it so well and after a moment gives a smirk.

“You either have an Iron stomach or you appreciate the finer things.” He says, nodding to you before capping the bottle again. After a moment you ask the man how much a bottle of the Grimm’s Blood would be. He seems surprised but gives you a figure and informs you that another bottle will be ready for use and sale in the coming months.

Thanking the man you decide to:

Maybe it’s the alcohol, maybe it’s just having out-drank Mars; You aren’t quite sure. Whatever the reason you decide to mosey on up to Weiss, the drink the bartender had made you (He called it an ‘Old Quarter’) in your hand, the ice rattling slightly in your hand. She looks at you in surprise, quickly using her hands to cover whatever the beverage was in her hand.

You chuckle.

“Relax, Ice Queen; I told you I don’t work for your dad.” You assure her, holding up your own drink.

She glares at you slightly before sighing. “You think i’m really gonna believe that?”

You nod. “What else could I be? If you’ve talked to Mars and Violet at all they no doubt brought me up. And what, are we all in cahoots? Some special team of hunters sent to an ACADEMY of huntsmen to keep an eye on you?” You ask her, watching as she stutters you simply stare at her.

“See, it doesn’t stand up very well when you think about it, huh?” And with that you nod your head to her, take a sip of your dink and move on.

Wandering at your leisure around the outskirts of the dance floor in search of more members of your team. The dance floor looked inviting, certainly; But you had made it your mission to see to your comrades. As their leader you had to at least try, Right?

At least, that made sense.

You decide to not question what you’re looking at, as if you’re wrong you have no questions; But if you are in fact seeing what you’re seeing then the amount of questions you have to ask and the amount of alcohol you would need to come to terms was not a level you were willing to subject yourself to. So you instead decide to find other members of the cadre.

Seeing as you’re still cradling your drink and you’d hate to waste it you find yourself sauntering towards the table your team occupied in Junior’s. In addition to Jaune, Ruby and as you make your way closer you feel your brain begin to melt at the sight you say.

You feel yourself root to the spot, barely able to keep your drink from spilling out of its glass at the sudden stop. Then again there’s few things that have genuinely took your breath away, and you had wandered all of Remnant and seen vistas that mankind had rarely seen and would probably only be seen by a handful of other people in your lifetime. And yet none of that currently compared to the sight of Yang Xaio-Long, and you were almost certain the alcohol had nothing to do with it.

Almost.

She looked positively radiant even after all the dancing she had done and even with just her walking back to rest your brain took a moment to burn her image into your mind. Part of you knew you were standing there like you had turned to stone and was desperate to move and attempt to say something. But the rest of your brain that was currently doing its best to stay as still as possible, as if the very act of moving would startle her.

This of course is the moment that her lilac eyes locked onto yours, and all rational fails you for a moment; And the smirk she gives nearly makes you drop the glass in your hands.

“Hey Tin-man.” She says, only a few inches away from you. You manage to stammer back, but only barely.

“H-howdy Yang.”

...Truly your finest work of wordcraft.

Seeing your stammer she looks down at your drink and chuckles “Apple Juice or something?” She asks, though this time you only manage to shake your head. Instead you raise your glass and hand it to her. She gladly takes it, though you can’t help but feel the touch of her hand against your bandaged ones.

Taking a sip she widens her eyes and surprise before giving out a low whistle, handing back the beverage. “Whooo, I take it back, that’s got some kick. Color me impressed.” She says, giving a light punch to your arm.

“Oh..uh...thanks.” You mutter, chuckling at her antics.

“If you’re drinking things like that more often, my Uncle Qrow will LOVE you.” She insists, and though you’re sure she means it in a purely innocent way you cannot help but think of the implications of the statement and blush. Before you can even stop yourself you’re already saying:

“Well, I’d hate to make a bad impression.”

You aren’t sure if she’s blushing or it’s the light but whatever the case she gives you a dry look.

“Smooth, ladykiller. Now then, why don’t you finish that finish up that drink of yours and we hit the dancefloor.” She suggests, giving you a smirk that has your stomach doing backflips.

You look at the drink for a moment and decide that between savoring the taste of it (which was something you were beginning to do quite a bunch) and dancing with the pretty blonde (which was something that in your current state was a brilliant idea) you decide to, for the first time in your life, listen to the tiny Khrone on your shoulder and follow the Blonde Bomber to the dance floor.

The extra little sway in her hips only serves to encourage you to want to dance and after downing the last of your drink in record time (you would mourn the loss of the beverage later) and after making sure no one noticed your hand began to glow a low gold before the glass vanishes into nothing but air.

You promised yourself to tip enough to make up for it.

As you meet up with Yang the floor has emptied a bit; You weren’t sure of the time, but given it was a monday it did not surprise you that people had cleared out slightly early. But naturally you didn’t think about any of this, you were too busy being enchanted by the sight before you. The moment she had found space to do so she began to flow and rock to the beat, and it was only after a few seconds of watching her that you realized one horrible, horrible fact.

You had absolutely no idea how to dance.

However as you watched her move about you felt the music begin to settle in your bones and you let it carry you. You don’t know when things began to change for you but you found yourself moving with the beat and rhythm first it was clunky and off by a second or so but as you lost yourself in the music and Yang it began to smooth out and you had to admit you felt on top of the world.

You could only hope that Yang felt the same.

After a moment you gave a wide smile and as the music began to slow down you found yourself out of your element far faster than you had anticipated. Part of it was that you started to discover that your years of survival instincts and self-taught ability to move had helped during the more frantic songs. But the slow song you now found yourself to had taken that way. The part of your sudden difficulty in dancing was that it was clearly a song for two, as Yang had stepped quietly into your comfort zone

CRIT BURNED

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5IVp25InsA

As she reaches you you find yourself quick to slip your hands around her waist. You would learn later that isn’t proper procedure for slow dancing but you didn’t know that. It was an intoxicating sensation with your new prosthetics as you felt her hands trail up the mid of your back, fingertips brushing against your scars. Though she was not much shorter than yourself you still had to look down to meet her gaze at the proximity. The playful smile she had before had shrank considerably, though it seemed far more genuine and you feel the world seemingly fade away. You know this is just you focusing far harder on her than anything else, but all of that pondering fades to the back as she speaks up.

“So, Lucius. About earlier…” She trails off, and you already feeling yourself dreading the words. “I didn’t mean to sound freaked out I just, I was surprised by them.” She admits, looking down. For a moment she looks afraid at what you’d say to her; To be honest you weren’t sure what you were supposed to say. Instead you just slowly rock with her, swaying slowly around the dance floor.

It was hard for you, if you were honest, to tell her that it would be okay; Or rather, tell yourself that it would be okay. She already knew about your transmutation, your arms. Would you really be so quick to tell her about your scars? About Icarus?

>A. Tell her about the scars

Don't think Lucy would be up for telling her about Icarus just yet. After all it's where his parents died. However the scars seem like they would work considering the looser atmosphere and the liquid courage going through his veins.

Plus he can dance around Icarus while telling her about the scars.

Why are we getting so many crits now?
>>
>>1796573

You take a deep sigh; She saw them. The least she deserved was for her to know how you had gotten them, let alone the significance to you they carried. After a moment you move one hand from her waist to her chin and tilt her head up to face you. You can feel your chest tighten as you look at her in surprise but you silence her with your words.

“Back where we grew up there was...a bad Grimm attack. Khrone and I and everyone else were running for our lives and Khrone fell. The adults were already busy and after a moment I ran back to try and save him.” You pause, feeling the usual torrent of thoughts falling across your mind like a reign of steel arrows. You’re amazed that the two of you are still dancing; Either she’s a better dancer than you gave her credit for or part of your brain was just driving your legs and nothing else.

“Of course I wasn’t old enough to really do anything to a Death Stalker of all things and...after I knocked it away it grabbed me and...well...I’m sure you can guess what happened.” You say quietly, your voice shaking. You don’t know how she’d take the information, the fact that you were a stupid kid and paid the price. You figured she’d do something to get away but when you felt her step closer and slide her arms more securely around you, you had to pause.
