General Rules

15 min voting period after each main post. Write-ins votes are welcomed/encouraged. Votes that are non-contradictory and add to the narrative will be considered. Think 'Rule of Cool'

Combat mechanics/skill test will be done using best three out of five rolls of 1d100, unless otherwise specified. Modifiers may come into play depending on the MC's statistics which can improve odds and vice versa as the QM sees fit. The QM will do their best to inform players of when such modifiers will come up during votes. (Example: Aim at a target at long range with a scattershot weapon will require a higher roll to make a successful hit than a normal blaster weapon).

Training with other bots and successful missions can add to your overall abilities. Strong character relationships with your comrades can also benefit the MC as it will improve battle synergy and moral (less likely to want to fall back/retreat). Of course the vice versa can come into play as well. A failed mission may have consequences but result in unforeseen outcomes (In the show, Tarantulus, Blackarachnia, & Quickstrike were supposed to secure an energon post. The Maximals interfered, resulting in the loss of the post BUT Tarantulus gained a new lair.).

Keep an eye out at your energon build up levels; too much time in robot mode outside of a structure, such as a base can cause negative impacts on your combat maneuvers/skill test, including potential loss of spark. In the event of loss of spark, pending the results of a vote, a time lapse in the narrative will happen and a new stasis pod will fall. (Roll for new character or with a high relation level, a blank protoform will descend and your allies will reignite your spark)

Last time on Beast Wars Quest
Warpath followed the Maximals to the Axalon. After an odd experience while shut down, he gain a bit more intelligence on the local areas and Predacon forces. After talking with Rhinox and Dinobot, he's getting some additional equipment
>>
Ok so when we last left off we had a tie regarding getting a weapon load out. We also had a few extra suggestions come in so I'll be expanding some of the options

Weapon ideas
Energy based (uses energon from robot weapons array)
>Small Blaster similar to Rattrap’s and Airazor’s . Rapid fire capable; lower damage output, most effective at short to medium range
>Medium Cannon similar to Cheetor’s and Tigatron’s. Moderate rate of fire; high damage, most effective at medium to long range. Rapid fire capable but can cause quasar jams and diminished accuracy. Can utilize a ‘charged’ shot that uses all stored energy; cooldown necessary.
>Beam Cannon, similar style of Dinobot's eye beams. Can be arm mounted or eye installed. Medium to long range; internal power reliant. (if too damaged, will lose range and damage out put)

Ballistic based (ammo clip dependent)
>Arm mounted machine gun
>Heavy Rifle similar to one used by Dinobot. Requires lots of room to wield effectively. Slow rate of fire; High damage; most effective at medium to long range; scope option to improve long range accuracy. Difficult to use in close quarters.
>Collapsible Sniper Rifle. Bolt action. Requires time to ‘deploy’ and ‘retract’. Long range capable; high damage; slow rate of fire. Silencer mode capable though sacrifices power and range for stealth shots.

Explosives (ammo dependent; single use each)
> Hey are those grenades? Fragmentation – high damage, range strength dependent
>Demo-charges similar to Rattraps. Can be used for destroying fortifications as well as trip mines. Blast yield can be adjusted
>Arm mounted missile launcher- streak missiles similar to Tigatron’s arm missile launcher. Max of 6 shots. Single fire. Medium to high damage.

>Any other equipment you could suggest? (additional equipment/tools)

Also note that the Small Blaster and Medium Cannon are considered Concealable due to Warpath's size.

Or
> Hey are those grenades? Fragmentation – high damage, range strength dependent

I wouldn't be opposed to using heavy weaponry when useful for the mission, but either of these fit Warpath better when just generally armed.
>>
>>1779408
>>Any other equipment you could suggest? (additional equipment/tools)
T-Rex Head Arm Laser Cannon!
Star Saber!

Also can we get an energon upgrade to our stick? Like the energon maces and swords and axes?

>Medium Cannon similar to Cheetor’s and Tigatron’s. Moderate rate of fire; high damage, most effective at medium to long range. Rapid fire capable but can cause quasar jams and diminished accuracy. Can utilize a ‘charged’ shot that uses all stored energy; cooldown necessary.

Would it be possible to later further expand our set of optional equipment? Obviously carrying too many weapons would be awkward and slow him down, but I think that once Warpath creates his own minibase in the wilderness, he could have his own cache of weapons to swap depending the missions he accepts or when he goes to explore regions where one weapon is better than the other
>>
Almost done writing; sorry late voters though the weapons/equipment can and will be available in the future as you guys accomplish more missions and have a location to store your stuff.

>>1779599
Yes but this will take additional time. Its up the vote if they wish to hang around the base while this is taken care of. Having them work on your Halberd will will mean not having it on you while on missions.

>>1779621
Most definitely. You'll be able to get more equipment and such once you've all found a suitable location for your base of operations.
>>
>>1779665
Sounds reasonable for weaponry.

“Hmm, Don’t suppose I could get something a bit more ‘discreet’?” You ask. “Something to catch the Preds by surprise?”

Dinobot rubs his chin, “Yes, an interesting prospect. I believe we can accommodate with something.” He starts moving past the original gun rack of spare weapons and start moving around equipment. A few moments later he returns with a small compact rifle. “It’ll take time for you to deploy the rifle, but it’s got the range and power to compensate.” He also hands you a bandolier with additional rounds.

“I believe the adage is “One shot, one kill.” But having a few extra rounds never hurts, well except your intended targets.” A tooth filled smile grows on his face as he hands it to you.

NEW WEAPON AQUIRED: Collapsible Sniper Rifle with bandolier (30 shots)

“Here, these might be of use as well.” Dinobot gestures over towards the wall. “Hot Marks, counter measures to thermal scans. As the name suggest, they produce a false heat signature and can be programed with a false energy signature.”

“Decoys to fool enemy scanners looking for the shooter? Clever.”

Dinobot nods and gestures towards the door.

NEW EQUIPMENT ACQUIRED: Hot Marks (5)

You make your way back to the command center and see Rhinox with Optimus.

“Glad I caught you before you left. Rhinox has filled me in on your choice destination.” Optimus gestures to the lift. “While I respect your decision to go it alone, I’d rather you not wonder the land alone.”

“Assigning me a babysitter already?”

“Think of it as back up while you’re establishing your new home.” Optimus and you begin your descent. When the platform reaches the bottom you see Tigatron and Airazor below.

“It’s a small detour but not too far out of my way back to the north.” Tigatron nods.

“I’m ready to get back to reconnaissance as well.” Airazor says.

Both of them, Airazor to have an eye in the sky (plus if the preds show up they'll shoot at her first.) And Tigatron because he's been running around longer than we have and he might have some tips on proper lairs in the area.

(Plus I want to get the two of them to wander alone when we settle down cause they're not gonna start that romance arc themselves until it's too late so we might as well help them along...)

>Airazor, having air support can’t hurt

“Wouldn’t mind a set of eyes in the sky.”

Airazor nods, “Well then, if you’re ready.”

“That said, you’re welcome to come along as well Tigatron. You said it was a small detour.”

The white tiger smiles, “That I did. Very well. Let us go together.”

Optimus has a surprised smile on his face. “I must admit Warpath, I didn’t see that coming. Glad to hear it. Signal us as soon as you’ve reached the forest and found our friend’s new outpost. Safe journey.”

Airazor takes to the air as you and Tigatron start a steady pace.

“So, you’ve chosen a place close to where you first emerged?” Tigatron says, “I did the same. It felt more natural to me. I’m not ashamed to say that I feel more at home in the wild than I do surround by artificial structures.”

You overhear a voice on the comlink. “I feel similar though it doesn’t hurt to be close to friends and family,” says Airazor.

It doesn’t seem to surprise you. From what you’ve gaged, their scout mentality seems to coincide with their perspective.

“Personally I just enjoy being out in the battlefield. I feel more alive then.” You say.

“Violence for the sake of violence isn’t something I’m fond of. I prefer the peace and serenity of the wild.” Tigatron adds.

“The wild can be savage as well.”

Tigatron contemplates it for a quiet second. “True, but there’s a balance to it. Animals don’t just kill for sport or for pleasure. It’s about survival.”

You continue to walk with Tigatron while Airazor circles wide around you. So far it’s quiet. Too quiet maybe? You maintain a constant vigil of your surroundings.

“Think we’ll run into some more Preds to play with?” You snarl with a bit of eagerness.

“Not likely. From what I heard, you did quite a number to them. I’d doubt we’d see Terrorsaur anytime soon.”

Heh. Yeah, you did.

You travel for a few hours until you start approaching closer to the more dense tree line. You’re still a few clicks away from where you last tangled with the Predacons and beyond that where you’re pod landed. The forest of course will provide better shelter but something in the back of your mind, that bestial part, is calling for the tall grass plains.

“Perhaps we should split up for now. Cover more ground. Make sure no one’s lurking about.”

Tigatron sniffs the air. “I no longer smell their stink around here, but not an unreasonable precaution.”

“Let’s keep comlinks open just in case.” Airrazor adds.

“Agreed.”

You look around and notice there are a few different approaches. Sensing your inquiry, Tigatron immediately speaks up.

“The left side leads towards the tall grasslands, not too far from the previous battlefield. The center will be the thick of the forest, lots of trees. To the right, theirs is green grassland with sporadic trees that eventually lead towards the more rocky terrain, even a few watering holes and water falls.”

>To the left

“I’ll take the left side.”

Tigatron speaks up. “I’ll head straight into the center.”

“Which leaves the rocky range for me.” Airazor adds. You give a quick nod to each and set out.

You start to stalk the grass lands on the edge of the woods. Listening to the sounds of the wild; a light gust rustling the leaves and the swaying of the tall grass. In the distance, the sounds of wild life: the rumble of a herd of antlered beast and you recall your dream. Something inside of you wants to hunt, the thrill of the kill and a craving. You shake the feeling for now. The humming of insects makes you a bit cautious, reminded of Waspinator. But from what you can tell, Airazor’s assessment was correct. No sign of preds.

“Warpath to Airazor and Tigatron. Come in.”

“Tigatron here, anything to report?”
“Negative. Seems quiet.” Seems.

“This is Airazor. All’s peaceful over hear. A lovely view if you are interested in that with your lair.”

“Nothing to report here as well. Regarding your lair there are a few options here. Fairly well camouflage den, if you don’t mind the smell of trees.”

That’s right. You need to focus on seeking out a lair. You’re large and in charge beast. You want something concealed like a cave or maybe even the fallen tree ‘fort’ that could make a good sniping spot. Maybe an underground den, were the tall grass will allow you an easy quick ambush spot.

>The sniper’s nest sounds appealing

“Let’s meet up with Tigatron.”

“Roger that.” Airazor says.

“I’ll hold here then.”

You turn towards the woods. The lush greenery is vibrant and alive. You recall the density of the forest, you’re certain this will make it easier to prevent fliers from having an easy time to find you. But with your new rifle, you’ll be able to take care of them easier.

You keep darting in and out of the forest. The only down side is that you notice in certain areas, your size almost makes some of the twist in turns a tight squeeze. Might have to keep an eye on that in the future while trying to stay stealthy.

Picking up Tigatron’s scent, you navigate to where he is. The white fur of his beast mode makes a stark contrast from the dark greens and brown wood. As you make your approach, you can hear the rustling and snapping of tree branches as Airazor makes her descent.

“Ah, Warpath. There you are.” Tigatron sits atop a large number pile of downed trees covered in moss. “So is this to your liking?”

It’s not bad; cover and concealment are definitely not going to be an issue. Though you have to admit the underneath might be a tad cramped, especially if you want to stockpile weapons. Of course, you could create caches of weapons in the area.

“This isn’t too bad if you’re focusing on guerilla warfare.” Airazor adds. “Though it’ll make it harder for you to spot any incoming Predacon squads.”

“He can always get some scanners for the region.”

The falcon shrugs. “True, but there’s a cave over by the rocky area that might be just as good in the area I was looking over.”

“You didn’t mention a cave?”

“Well it’s what I meant for a view”

>This is fine. Like Tigatron said, it’s good for what I have planned.

>Let’s look at this cave before I make my final decision.

“This cave might sounds interesting. Wouldn’t hurt to check it out. ”

Tigatron nods. “Well then, we’ll follow you my lady.”

Airazor gives a smile. “See you cool cats there.” She takes off as you and Tigatron take off to follow.

The two of you make your way through the woods almost racing. He’s pretty nimble for an older bot, but you figure it’s the size of his beast mode and his knowledge of the terrain that’s giving him the advantage. You’re still confident you could take him.

As you get closer towards the edge of the wood, Tigatron ask you a question.

“Do you really intend to start a one bot war against the Predacons?”

“And if I do?”

“I’ll be the first to acknowledge that I prefer to hunt alone, but even I can see the flaw of such a plan.” He says. Oh great, and here I thought Optimus was the only one that gave lectures. “While I can see that you are a formidable warrior, the Predacons will eventually come at you with everything they’ve got and if you’re not careful you will be destroyed.”

“Don’t worry old cat, I can handle myself.”

He growls low to that. “Still if you find yourself in a tough situation don’t hesitate to ask for help.”

You just give a heavy annoyed sigh. What’s with these guys? You get that there’s of course the benefit of having allies in battle, but you’re not some wet nosed rookie. You’ve fought the Preds and held your own.

“How about we just not keep the bird waiting.”

“Her name is Airazor. Do remember that.” Tigatron’s eyes narrow towards you.
“Yea, yea.” Touchy, touchy.

You reach the clearing where the tree line dissipates and the grass turns to rock. You can see Airazor flying in a circle around an area with a series of three water falls. They’re not too high up from a river in a narrow canyon.

“Over hear. It’s just adjacent to the falls on the right.” You over hear on the comlink. The two of you make your way as she comes down to land.

“Didn’t I tell you? Quite a view.” She playfully teases.

“Indeed. The natural beauty of this planet never ceases to amaze.” Tigatron proses.

You overlook the area where the cave’s entrance is. While the view’s beauty impresses your companions, you see the more practical application. It’s almost a perfect vantage point to anyone on the approach towards the Maximal base. You could pick off someone trying to sneak to the base or pop shots while the Maximals launch a counter offensive to intercept a large group. The only downside is it’s fairly exposed. They’ll know where you’re firing from after a shot or two and with time, could reach your position.

“Not bad, not bad.”

>I’ll stick with the forest

“For what I have planned for the Predacons, the forest will suit me better.”

Tigatron and Airazor both nod.

“Very well. If you like I’ll lead you back there.” Tigatron states.

“If you like I can send your position to Maximal base, see if they can start organizing your equipment.”

“Not sticking around, Airazor?” You look back at Tigatron when you state her name.

“It’s better that we don’t have all the scouts in one place for too long.” She says. “One of us should get back to work keeping an eye out for Predacon movement.”

Tigatron smiles with a nod. “Then we won’t hold you up any longer.”

“Take care. Be sure to invite me to the house warming.” She takes off towards the skyline.

You and Tigatron turn back towards the wood. “Once the others show up, I should head out as well.” He keeps in stride with you. “Of course if you like I can stick around a bit longer and help you with setting up the array.”

“Whats wrong with having it close to my base?”

“You’ll want it near but not so close to where it’ll expose your position.”

“Makes sense.”

“Also, with that many trees, it’ll be tricky for you to send the signal. You could use a tight beam but there’ll be energon interference.”

Old timer seems to know his stuff. “Well I was more thinking of where to set up some traps.”

“You could do that if you wish. I’ll hang around the trees if you want and wait for the others to show up.”

You think back to your equipment. You currently don’t have any explosives but you do have those Hot Marks. If used in tandem with say natural traps or some explosives they’d make great decoys. You’ll just have to radio in for some Demo-charges or grenades.

You tap your paw on your comlink “Warpath to Maximal base, come in.”

It takes a few moments, but you start to pick up a signal.

“This is good guy central; Rattrap speaking. How may I direct your call?”

Tigatron and you share a look as he just shakes his head with an annoyed groan.

“It’s Warpath. I’m calling to let you know that Tigatron and I have settled on a location.”

“Ah, loud and clear. I’ll get Rhinox and chopper face on it and they should be there in a few cycles or your next round of dirty mech fluid with a touch of radium is on us.”

Ugh. “Don’t keep us waiting too long.” You shut off the comlink.

Tigatron just chuckles.

“Hey I’ve been meaning to talk to someone about something.”

His ears perk up. “Something the matter?”

You describe to him the visions you’ve had with as much detail as possible. He doesn’t say anything paying close attention. For once you’re grateful to his serious though a tad stoic disposition.

“I can’t make heads or tails of it. Thoughts?”

Tigatron chuckles. “Well its not a malfunction if that’s what you’re worried about. You spend a lot of time in your beast mode don’t you?”

“Yes.”

“Do you enjoy it?”

“It has its advantages when fighting.”

Tigatron shakes his head. “You have to think of it as more than that. These memories are from your beast mode. Think of it as the call of the wild. I think you, like me, are drawn towards your wild nature than your cybertronian life.”

“Doesn’t help that I only remember the old life much. Just flashes. So what do I do about it?”

“The others once were bothered by a similar situation. We all have a ‘programing block’ that prevents the two sides from being as one, but you need to find that block and delete it. Embrace the beast within.”

“Thanks, I’ll put some thought into that.”

Hmm an odd concept, bit too head-y for my taste, but if it’ll help me shred preds then I’m ok with it. But there’s a few other things that need to take priority. I can figure this bestial nature stuff later.

“Something else on your mind?”

Might as well just come out with it. Don’t want him thinking I’m getting too soft.

“So, you and Airazor?”

Tigatron stops in place. “What about her? And Me?”

“You two seem …close”

“It’s not like that. I mean well…” He looks away.

“Relax stripes. I was just curious. You two seem cozier than the others do with her.”

The two of you continue on back towards the sniper nest. He’s been quiet most of the way, as if he’s putting more thought into it.

“Well we do spend more time out here than the others do. We bond over our mutual enjoyment of nature. And we’ve had more than our fair share of time working together.”

(cont.)
>>
“That and being protective of her.”

He turns to face you. “I’m no more protective of her than I am of any of my fellow Maximals.” The tiger stops again. “I’m curious as to why you’re so interested. Are you trying to say something about your own…intentions?”

Hmm havent really considered that aside some remarks here and there. Am I serious about pursing something with Airazor? While he's being dodgy over the subject, it doesnt take a genius to see he's got an interest in her.

“All I was trying to say was, I think you should make good on your feelings. Embrace who you are, just as you suggested that I embrace who I’ve become.”

He pauses for a moment as his eyes widen. Your words were definitely not what he was expecting.

“You never know when the next battle with be your last. Best to let your intentions be known now.”

You can see he’s seriously considering your words.

“I would’ve never pegged you as the insightful type Warpath.”

“Yea well, don’t go spreading that around.”

He chuckles. “No worries, my friend. I’ll keep it to myself.” A smile grows on his face. “Perhaps it is time that I was more honest with myself and with her about our comradery. You’ve given me much to think on.”

You and Tigatron sit there for a moment in silence.

“I’m sure you will. I mean seriously that figure.” You whistle.

He quickly looks back at you with his fangs partially exposed, but when he sees your smirk he drops his stance and shakes his head. The two of you share a chuckle.

Other than the fliers?

1) The ones that shot first and ask questions later
2) The spiders if they suspect

Well traps for air brone units will most likely fly over them regardless of their cunning, this is mostly aimed at the spiders but yeah, asking about traps advice. Alternatively, ask about interesting things hes come across in his travels that may warrant a more detailed examination.

>Set up your Hot Marks

Sitting still waiting isn't isn't your style.

"You ok to hold the fort down? I want to start looking around and set up."

Tigatron nods, "Just keep in contact. I'll let you know when the others arrive."

You get up and leaping down to the forest floor. It wouldn't hurt to get a stronger feel of the area while you are at it.

the first area you decide to investigate is a heavily underbrush area, within line of sight of the nest, but still a ways away from close combat.

You know that strategically, the hot markers will work best with proximity mines but you'll want to set them up to activate by either radio signal or with proximity sensor. The one thing you're concerned with are the Predacon fliers. The trees will make it difficult for them to maneuver but will also obscure your shots.

So where would you like to place the first marker?

>place a marker in the brush, anyone dumb enough to try to sneak thur will be hit.
>climb a tree and place it facing away near a larger branch
>place it to the side of the brush; the preds will try to maneuver around and meet a nasty surprise

You begin setting up the hot marker, programming it for remote signal use. This way you can use them in a more proactively the reactionary. So as you start putting in the settings, you shock yourself on the box.

"Blasted hunk of junk" you smack the sides of the case and just toss it to the ground. It's not very well hidden, even a simple droid could see it and not be fooled. But you can't be bothered and it's pointless to worry since you don't even have the explosives.

You need to find four more spots. Where should you go next?

You look down at the hot mark. No one is gonna be fooled by this and it would be foolish to leave it like this. As you pick it back up, it shocks you again. Great, this is gonna be a thing isn't it?

You transform back into your beast mode and head towards where the tree line meets the grasslands. The forest the trees are vastly spread out but the grass is tall.

Where's the most optimum place you'd like to put it?

>behind one of the trees, well hidden
>partially concealed by a log on the ground, when you place the explosive it'll kick up a lots of dirt and natural debris

You take out one of the other marks and you're concerned by the fact that the previous marker, last thing you want is for more of them to act up.

As you start it up and begin programing it, you're relieved that it operates properly. You set it up next to the small builders with a smile. The thought of unsuspecting predacon's stumbling near will get next to slagged if they come this way.

You still have a a few more hot marks to place but you're also curious what the situation is for the Maximal's coming in.

What do you want to do?

>Remain here, there's a few other possibilities here. (set up another trap here, one of the previous suggested)

You decide to take a few moments to call back Tigatron

“Warpath to Tigatron.”

“Tigatron here. How’s everything going?”

“Alls quiet out here. These hot markers are a bit fickle though.” You flip one in your hand as you contemplate your next move. “Any whats the sitch with the Maximals?”

“They’re close, should be here in a few moments. Don’t lurk out there too long. You’ll want to be here so you can learn how to use the array.”

Yeah yea. “Sure no problem over and out.”

You take a deep breath as you look around; it’s getting closer to late afternoon. In a few cycles it’ll be night.

What do you want to do?

You take a look around and it’s still quiet and no signs of any Predacons. Internal scanners are clear and you’re senses don’t notice anything. It wouldn’t hurt to set up another mark.

You head over towards one of the trees. You make sure it’s a ways from the rock to keep it spaced out to not set off a chain reaction and prematurely detonating more than one trap then necessary.
You manage to keep this one clear of sight but just enough for the heat signature to draw in someone for you to blow up a charge. You input the remote trigger protocol and move out.

Two down, three to go.

>Set up one in the north

“Beast mode”

You transform and head out for northern forest. It’s still not too late to get there and make it back to Tigatron. You start off taking the outer perimeter to sweep for any notable exploits that the Predacons could us to flank you. The grass maintains its length but your internal scanners topography tells you that the land more rolling hills before it reaches more arid lands.

You think back to the conversation with Tigatron and to a small degree Airazor. ‘The natural beauty’ and the ‘call of the wild’ eh? To be honest, while you acknowledge the idea that terrain can influence the outcome of a battle, being able to just sit back and take it all in is new. You vaguely recall that the vibrancy of Cyberton was much more different. Alive yet, colder in some ways.

You slow down your pace; contemplating the ‘block’ in your programing that Tigatron had mentioned. He claims it’ll make you stronger, to embrace the more primal side of your beast form and merge it with your true programming.

As you reenter into the woods you notice an odd light emanating from within. It doesn’t seem natural. You haven’t picked up on any Predacons in the area and all the Maximal’s are accounted for….

>Approach the anomaly stealthfully in beast mode

You decide you can handle this yourself. Might make a good trial for you to use unleash the beast within. Staying low you keep with the shadows to help hide the brighter tones of your fur. Sniffing the air, you try to find anything unusual about the area. Anything unnatural.

The light has a shimmering effect on the leaves and the trees and seems to stretch the shadows longer than normal. Perfect for stalking unsuspecting prey. The sensation of creeping along the forest floor is putting your motivators into overdrive. It’s almost like the dream; all that’s missing is something to pounce upon.

Moving closer, the first thing that calls you back to reality is the sudden glitching of your ER comlink. It seems to be taking a lot of energy build up. Good thing it wasn’t in use or you’d have given your position away with the sound of static and circuitry cracking. Wait a moment. The only thing that would cause that would be energon build up.

You move closer towards the light and stop at a ledge. The surrounding area is extraordinary. It’s a small watering hole, not quite the size of a pond, which is surrounded with raw natural energon. The light of the enegon is only amplified by the water and illuminates this entire area.

A quick gaze upon along the scene, two areas catch your notice. One on the west side, close by is where there’s some broken shards of energon, it seems like there’s a lot of tracks there. On the far north east, some of the energon seems…stable. At the very least, more so than the other energon in the region.

From what little you’ve gathered from being at the Maximal base is that the energon on this planet is in its raw state making it unstable and requires mining and refinement for usage. Curious.

Of course you remember you still have your hot marks. A leading an enemy bot into this area, even without explosives, would be harmed by the amount of energon in this area.

What would you like to do?

>Investigate the track by the broken energon
>Investigate the stable energon

>Turn back and call it in. The Maximals should be there by now.

You decide whatever is occurring here, it’s not nearly as important as getting back to the rest of your allies. Besides, you’re not miner; one of the others might be more knowledgeable about this.

You move a quick pace to head back; you don’t want to keep them waiting. The sooner this array business is taken care of, the sooner you can get to your personal mission. A one cat war against the Predacons.

“Warpath to Tigatron, come in.”

“Tigatron here. Warpath. The others are here as well and we’ve begun construction of the array.” Well that’s one worry off your mind.

“Sounds good. I’ll be along soon.”

Its takes a bit longer than you expect to return to the den. In your animalistic musing, you seem to have headed farther north than you realized. You have to pace yourself a bit more due to the distance and to navigate the woods carefully. Fine by you, the discovery may have been worth it. Hmm maybe I could just keep this discovery to myself. No need to report if there isn’t anything to report. Besides, you can utilize the energon for yourself, atleast the stable stuff.

You finally get back to the den but you don’t notice anyone there immediately. They seem to have begun setting it up a few clicks away from the den to avoid drawing attention to it. It also seems they even though far enough ahead to bring a ghillie for the array.

“Ah Warpath. Good to see you” Rhinox stands next to Dinobot and Tigatron as they stabilize the main emitter dish. “Come on over so we can go over the basics of your new tower.”

>”Before we begin, there’s a strange energon formation in the north.”

“Energon formation?”

“While scouting the northern region, I came upon an unusual grove. There was a small water pond that was surrounded by raw energon.”

Rhinox rubs his chin, “Not exactly what I’d call unique. Energon crystal clusters can be found in abundance on this planet.”

“It gets better. While I was going in for a closer look, it appeared that some of it was stable. Also some of the formation had been disturbed.”

The large bot’s red eyes get big. “Natural stable energon? Interesting. I don’t suppose you brought back a sample? And what do you mean disturbed? “

“Negative. The energy levels were high and I’m not really much of a miner. There were tracks by the disturbed side of it leading to the water’s edge.”

“Tracks by the side that was unstable, but no tracks by the side that was stable.”

You think for a moment. “I didn’t investigate too thoroughly. I chose to report here first.”

He nods. “We’ll I’m grateful for you to report this. I’ll have Rattrap swing by here tomorrow. You can assist him with extracting it.”

>”I don’t mind playing tour guide for the rodent.”
>”Well anyways, what can you tell me about the array.”

“I don’t mind playing tour guide for the rodent.”

Rhinox just shakes his head and chuckles. “I’m sure he won’t mind the fresh air.”

“I know I won’t mind.” Dinobot snarls. “The base could use some airing out of his stench.”

The rest of them chuckle. You do as well, but less so once it dawns on you that if he stinks that badly, you’ll be in close proximity. Lovely.

“Well anyways, what can you tell me about the array.”

“Ah, of course. Its why we’re out here.”

Rhinox leads you over to the recently constructed array tower and console.

“So it’s fairly simple. Standard procedure is to file a weekly report through tight beam communications. This way it’s less likely to be intercepted and detected.” He continues to go over the basic functions outside of the reports.

First, the array can double as a short range radar dish. You’ll be able to know if Predacons are within the forest vicinity and a small distance from the perimeter of it. Like an early warning system while you’re at your den.

Secondly, though it drains its energon reserves, it can be used as a jamming tower to disrupt any enemy com traffic in the same radius.

Lastly, you are able to link up the hot markers, demo-charges and other items you may get to the console and use them at a greater distance than you would normally could.

“Not bad, not bad.”

“Just remember that the more functions you are actively utilizing the more taxing it’ll be on the energon reserve.”

A smirking Tigatron chimes in, “The reports are essentially the most important part. I usually rely on my own instincts for tracking and hunting.”

“Just letting our new friend know what else he can use it for.” Rhinox turns back to you. “Before I forget, the energon reserve last for one deca-cycle (one month) on low power mode. (The way Tigatron uses it)

>”Tigatron’s way sounds about right for me.” (Set it for low power mode.)
>”When and how do I maintain is energon levels?”

“I can mess with the functions at a later time.”

You approach the tower and following Tigatron’s example, you set it for low power mode. His words resonate with you. All this time you’ve been doing things you’re way, a more Spartan way of doing it, so why change it up? If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

“One last thing, when and how do I maintain the energon levels?”

“Well the most efficient way would be to use refined energon cubes. Being out here, you won’t be able to do it yourself, but give us a shout and we can send some your way.” He perks up a bit. “Though I suppose if that energon deposit you found is stable you could use those, since you prefer to be independent.”

True, having to rely on the Maximals for everything may become tedious. And time spent refining energon could be time best spent turning Megatron and his goon squad into scrap.

“I’ll warn you though, avoid using the raw energon unless it’s absolutely dire. It’ll fry the circuitry overtime. You could accidently cause it to malfunction at a key moment.”

Seems simple enough; like raw energon wasn’t bad enough as it is.

Having been in robot mode for a while, you and the rest of the Maximals transform back into beast mode.

“Well that should just about cover everything.”

“Appreciate it.”

Dinobot steps forward. “Is that all you will be requiring?”

“Getting tired Dinobot?”

The velociraptor shakes his head. “Tired? Bored more like it. Which reminds me; here.” Dinobot tosses over a satchel to you with eight demo-charges inside. “This might help alleviate the boredom out here.” He gives a soft chuckle.

“Well I’m going to finish up setting my perimeter defenses. Anyone wanna join me?”

Tigatron shakes his head, “Sorry, but I should be getting back up to my patrols in the north. Though I wish you luck.”

“I really should be getting back as well.” Rhinox says. “With everything set up here, I should be heading back. Coming along, Dinobot?”

You see the raptor tap on of his nails, considering the proposition. “I believe I can assist you temporarily.”

“Don’t you have monitor duty?” Rhinox cocks his head towards him.

“I will be monitoring, but in a more…proactive capacity.” He laughs.

The rhino sighs. “Very well. I’ll tell Optimus. Might have to call in Cheetor in from his patrol.”

“See? It all works out.”

You nod to the raptor. “Sounds good, to me”

He walks over and picks up the satchel seeing as you lack the appropriate digits to pick it up.

“Well then, take care. Both of you. And radio just in case if things go poorly.” Rhinox says.

>Patrol

The two of you embark on a quick patrol of the surrounding forest. You maintain a bit of a distance to assure the best field of vision.

All’s quiet tonight. You wonder how long that will last.

“You’ve chosen a well-positioned forward command base of operations. Megatron will not be to engage you easily.”
“About what I was going for.”

“Tell me, from what we’ve seen; the Predacon’s will not enter this forest by happenstance. Once they know you’re here, they’ll most likely launch a full assault from all sides. I trust you are planning accordingly?”

“That’s what the demo-charges are for.”

“Yes, but what happens when they run out? Or manage to disarm them.”

“Well that’s why I’ll be holding the detonator, they send in one of their sweep teams…Boom.”

Dinobot doesn’t respond. For the most part, you’re certain he doesn’t see you as foolhardy as others might but he strikes you as someone that rather get up close and personal with the Predacons.

The two of you continue this for another hour or so, continuing your search from just inside the forest to maintain some cover and stealth.

“All clear. I detect no hostiles.” Dinobot states.

“Nor I. A Pity.”

“Not so much.”

You turn to him confused. “What makes you say that?”

“You’re traps are not fully operation yet. We would have one less edge if combat where to break out.”

A fair point.

The two of you make your way back to the place you put the first hot marker.

“Warpath Transform.”

“Dinobot, Maximize.”

The two of you transform and he hands you your charges. He then draws his sword and a spinning shield.

“I’ll keep watch to ensure no one interrupts you or any potential spies are near.” He says. “Unless you require assistance?”

>Have Dinobot maintain watch while you arm your traps
You start working on the explosive combo with the hot marks as Dinobot moves around the area, keeping watch. You do your best to recall your old basic boot training and programs on how to combine the two devices. While doing so you find yourself occasionally distracted by the swirling of Dinobots shield when he passes by. Additionally you find your mind wander when you hear the sounds of the night life within the forest.

You double check your work over. You’re certain the bombs will detonate when you send the signals, but you get the idea that there might be a slight delay. It will take a bit more precision timing to make full use of them. But you know for certain, they will work the way you initially intended.

You and Dinobot proceed checkpoint to checkpoint; you set up each device the same way to ensure they all work properly. All but the last one, the one that seems damaged.

“Don’t suppose you have a Syncor-laser?”

Dinobot stops to face you. “Not exactly something I carry around with me.”

“Didn’t think so.”

“Problem?”

“Faulty hot mark.”

“Hmm,” Dinobot considers. “My suggestion would just to rig the device with a proximity sensor.”

“I’d rather use remote detonation but if need be, I’ll set it up that way for now.”

“You can always adjust it later when the cheese eater heads out here. I’ll be sure to have him bring one for you.”

You chuckle. Gonna have to remember that one.

“Appreciate it.”

Dinobot scoffs. “When one goes into battle it’s always best to make sure you’re weapons are functioning properly.”

A valid point, though you could do without the sass.

The two of you complete your network of explosives and return back to your snipers den.

“Good luck to you Warpath. I look forward to the next piece of Predacon you have to show for your efforts.”

“Clear a wall on the Axalon. I trust one of you guys know how to mount heads?”

The two of you share a laugh as Dinobot heads back towards the Maximal base. You take this time to walk inside of the den. Cozy, considering your size. You have to admit that while you’re not officially a Maximal you feel a certain kinship with Tigatron and Dinobot. Been awhile since you’ve felt that. It’s good to have comrades in arms.

[Thanks for coming folks. Sorry this one wasn't as action packed but i hope that i was able to punch up the story in this later half. As always, i will be running again Weds and we'll see where the adventure takes us.]
