The way Lorelei is looking at you makes you feel like the prior events to yesterday were just a dream. “Alright, so...wait, okay, so what happened with the flirty girl’s body?”

It’s been like, three times you’ve tried to explain it to Lorelei, and she still doesn’t believe you. Frankly, you’re less than surprised. You wouldn’t believe it, either…

If it weren’t for the wolf-eared girl in warpaint standing right behind you, looking around with both a nervous and eager air as you give Lorelei and Izumi a retelling of where you vanished off to. They certainly weren’t expecting you to come back with someone in tow...but Sal seems rather giddy about it.

That alone makes you concerned.

Hello, hello, and welcome back to Magical Girl For Hire Quest!

------------------------------

You are Miranda Styles, a relatively unscrupulous magical girl currently working for Silver Eye Solutions, a umbrella corporation for magical girl mercenaries such as yourself, located in scenic The Intersection, a dimensional nowhere and everywhere where you rest, recuperate, live, and get details for your next job.

Recently, you just got back from one heck of a sudden job given to you by Sal- and forced to do it for (mostly) free, no less! It involved playing escort and protector alongside a local, for a troupe of illusionist succubus bard women as they went on tour.

...well, that’s the short end of it, anyway. The whole thing proved to be more frustrating than normal- which really it shouldn’t have been, but Sal just HAAAD to try and prove a point by sending you in naked. Of arms, that is, not of clothes.

Either way, the end result was messier than you’d have liked, and Sal wasn’t entirely happy with you- but...Mono, was it? Yeah, her. Her actually VOLUNTEERING to abandon literally everything for the sake of new experiences (not like her old life was really all that grand) seemed to have mollified him a bit. For now, anyway.
>>
>>1705238

You’d arrived back to an empty apartment, only to have Lorelei and Izumi barge in a day later asking for details. Owlia and Cylica have gone- apparently they’d been on the lookout for an apartment themselves, and they’d also managed to find an early job- although the duo weren’t sure what that job was, just they they left tomorrow. That left you, them, and the newcomer, whom Izumi was still rather baffled by.

“So, wait, you just...left?” she asks incredulously as you get to the end of your tale for the fourth time. “You...won’t anyone miss you? Your friends, family...anyone?”

The wolfgirl just shrugs. “Honestly? I don’t think so, nah. Back there, I was kinda losing myself fast. Bein’ trapped like that goes against everything I’m for- but I still had ta suffer it or else risk getting killed just for existin’...I figure anything’s better than that. If I die, might as well be doin’ something I WANT to do.”

Lorelei leans back, face in an unusual frown. “Weellll...I GUESS I can get that. Still think you’re weird, though.” Then she breaks into a grin, turning towards you. “Owlia and Cylica are gonna be happy. Didn’t take too long for them to not be bottom of the totem pole!”

Mono just shrugs, a slight grin on her face. “Yeah, I guess I’ve got some fast learning to do.”

Lorelei gets up, patting her on the back. “Well, dontcha worry, Auntie Lorelei will teach ya everything you need to know about keeping up with the joneses no matter where you are, and looking cool doing it!”

Izumi’s eyes rocket into her head, such is her eye-rolling speed. “And you’d ruin her chances before she got them. Really, I think I’d be a better tutor in this particular case. If she wants to see new places, she’ll have to learn how to respect them as well, and-”

“Noway!” Lorelei rebuffs. “I’m doing better! I can TOTALLY tell her everything about everything! We’ll have a blast!”

Izumi immediately turns to you. “Considering we have three newcomers to the Intersection at the same time, I have to imagine we’ll have to split some duties in regards to mentorship at some point.

’Liiiike now, perhaps?’ Where the HELL did you come from, Sal?! Owlia and Cylica haaaaaven’t left on their job yet- so I suppose now’s as good as any to decide if you’d rather go with theeeeem on their first collection run, or stay with your new charge! The way he looks at you is...less nice than normal. “I’m sure you can understand the need to keep an eye on important individuals, right?”

Yup, he’s still miffed. Saying no isn’t an option.

It’s fairly easy to pick. “Yeah, alright. I guess I’ll go with the two.”

Sal’s grin is wide, and mostly sincere, you think. “Sounds grand to me! Doooo remember that you’re mostly just there to keep them out of trouble- like last time, only a biiiiit more successful, hm?” Ugh, he’s probably going to hold this over your head for a while, if he keeps on like he is. “They’re to be picking up the payment that YOU organized some time ago with those little flowery girls. Do plan accordingly.”

Oh yeah. Hm. That was one of the times you’d tried to be more...outgoing? Well, still you, but less quiet. You thought it went...okay, at best. “You think they’re going to try anything?” You find yourself asking.

“No, but better to be suuuuure, of course. A courier’s job is by noooo means perfectly safe.” Hm. Well, that’s true enough. Especially if something comes up and suddenly ‘whoops, we can’t pay but we swear we’re good for it next month!’ Bah. “I’ll be letting them knoooow of the arrangements immediately. You juuuust be ready.” With that, he vanishes.

“...geez, you actually ticked him off, huh?” Lorelei quips.

Like she has any right. “Eh, shut it.”

She doesn’t. “So! Us and- Mono, was it? Yeah!” She wraps a friendly arm around the girl- which Izumi quickly and calmly plucks off, to Lorelei’s non-concern. “Allow me to give you the official welcoming tour!” She’s already dragging the girl off, Izumi quickly following behind with a sigh of displeasure.

As for you, though...you should rest. Mono can’t be in THAT much trouble as long as Izumi’s there to keep things on an even keel, right?

----------

The day after gives you no hide nor hair of Lorelei, Izumi, or Mono- but that’s something you can’t question immediately, as Owlia and Lorelei are both already present- why they’re using your apartment as the staging grounds is something you’re going to HAVE to bring up with Sal sooner than later.

Owlia seems fairly non-plussed. “So, we’ve gotten the general operating rundown from your Mr. Sal, oddity that he...it...is. We arrive, demand prompt payment, should they not, we are free to acquire anything in the general vicinity that could be considered valuable. If they do, well, this should be a rather short visit, I imagine.”

“That’s the idea, yeah.” you confirm. “Generally running collections is a bit looser on the rules than my usual work, but we still don’t want to cause a ruckus. Which normally means we gotta dress for the occasion.”

“Yeah, we got told that, too…” Owlia confirms.

“Bah, I’m always dressed well,” Cylica states. “I doubt I’ll need any new wardrobe for such a simple assignment.”

You give her a once-over; she’s still got that royal robe, as well as a small head circlet with a symbol engraved on it, as well as her royal chestpiece armor and boots. Owlia has slightly more casual fare on, with something resembling a mage’s robe, although you can see jeans on underneath. Her crystals are still embedded in her forehead, as well. She’s lacking her armor, however.

You yourself are just in your normal outfit. They can’t afford any special changes of clothes at the moment, but you suspect that’ll change after this. As for yourself...

It’s a quick effort to readjust your clothing to what you had on last time- nothing too special, really, although you weren’t the biggest fan of the brightly colored shirt. It seemed appropriate at the time, so whatever. Thinking about it, however, you decide to add on the cape. Could give you a slightly improved air of legitimacy.

Cylica just gives you a smirk as you put it on. “I think mine is better.”

You give her a flat look. “Stow it.” And then you look away towards your employer. “Any time you’re ready, Sal.”

“Ah-ah! You’re not leading this one- THEY are.” He motions to the two girls in question; Cylica just exudes smug, whereas Owlia just smiles nervously.

“Proceed, then.” Cylica orders with all the imperiousness of her former station, and you’re headed out.

Hopefully this won’t be too long, at least…
-----------

The city is...better than you recall. You find yourself in front of an ordinary house, it seems, with the same golden dress and ribbons on your arms and legs as before. Only this time, you have a shining, brilliant golden cape billowing out from behind you. With a flex, you find you can shape it into a pair of smaller, more...well, ribbon-like extensions.

Owlia has the appearance of some sort of fairy, her face still pale, but her hair almost a shimmering black color, with her robes and shoes, now slippers, having been quite bedazzled and colored to match- in general she seems to have a gemstone motif. The crystal in her forehead is still there, but her body now also has other, smaller crystals embedded in a line down her arms and neck, giving the appearance of a ridge that runs across her body.

Cylica looks more serious, her coloration becoming a russet gold with black outlines, although she also has a ribbon belt around her waste and her circlet has become more elaborate, becoming something of a helmet, although her face is still clearly visible. Her boots are heeled now, and she gives off the impression of, if not someone at the top of the food chain, then close to it.

“Huh. So...where are we?” Owlia asks.

“I take it considering the direction we’re facing, we’re in front of one of the homes of the payers.” Cylica surmises.

“That’s my guess,” you agree. “So, I’m just supposed to sit here and look regal while you two actually collect. So…” you fold your arms. “Get to it.”

“Wait, you don’t have any advice?” Owlia asks. “I mean, you’ve done this before, right?”

You have, even if not often. But honestly, there’s a number of ways you can go about collecting...

After a bit of mulling on it, you just sigh. “They’re kids,” you note. “I’d say just be gentle about it, and you shouldn’t have any problems.” Lean too hard on them and you’d likely scare them into physical issues.

“Ah...I suppose so.” Cylica doesn’t seem to exactly approve, but Owlia simply nods, and is the one to knock on the door, double-checking a picture and a piece of paper you can only assume was given to her by Sal.

Man, who uses paper anymore…? “Hello?” Ah. You quickly end your musings to look at who answered the door- it seems like it’s an older lady- blue haired and on the whole she looks very comely, with a simple sundress and shoes. “Oh! Er...my, can I help you?” You can hear her softly wonder ‘what on earth…?’

It’s Owlia who speaks first. “Yes, actually. We’re looking for one, er...Bluebell? Heroine of the Earth Angels?”

It’s only given the lady’s reaction that you realize you forgot to even tell that some heroines might have a secret identity, otherwise you might-

“Millie!!!” Oh, well nevermind, then. “I think the people you were talking about a while ago are here!” Well, at least you were expected. That’s good. There’s a sudden pattering noise, and you quickly see a girl who’s hair you just recognize as Bluebell’s- kid’s rocking the overalls look, it seems.

She seems more than a bit shocked at the appearance of you and your associates. “Ah! Uh, Miss Lady Charm! I, uh, I didn’t think you’d be back so promptly…or that you’d, uh, bring friends. I didn’t even know...”

“As you can see, she is, and did,” Cylica stats officially. “Now, as I understand it, you agreed to make a partial payment for Lady Charm’s services in liberating your city, yes?”

“I, uh, yeah, we did…” Bluebell looks nervous, but she does manage to hold your attention.

“You wouldn’t happen to have it here with you, would you?” Owlia asks gently. “We really do kind of need it.”

“Uhhh...I know we’ve all been saving.” She’s quick to avert her eyes. “It’s just- after that whole thing we’ve been working to keep the city safe from other smaller threats, and I, uh, I think some of us haven’t been able to work as much, so...I THINK maybe we should have it?” She offers you all an embarrassed grin, and you see Cylica already starting to open her mouth.

“Can you check with the others?” Owlia quickly interrupts.

“Uh, yeah! Sure!” She’s quick to agree, and even quicker to leave.

There’s a few moments of awkward silence as Cylica and Owlia look back and forth- apparently unsure of whether they should pursue or not. Eventually, Cylica takes off after her, as does Owlia. You just give a long look at the girl’s mother- she seems just as confused as you do- before you follow the two.

Gods, this was boring.

cont.
>>
>>1708537
You manage to quickly catch up with the girl- she'd actually transformed if only to get some speed, but apparently she hadn't expected you to tail her as she lands in front of another house- this one a bit bigger, a bit more decorated, but clearly still in the same neighborhood. Bluebell rapidly knocks on the door, a series of sharp, near hurried beats signifying the urgency.

“Alright, alright, just a second!” A familiar voice rings out. Bluebell nervously looks behind her as the door opens, and Rose- still in a sleepwear onesie- answers the door. “Whaaaaa-”

“Do you have the money?” her yawning question is quickly cut off by Bluebell’s urgency. “She’s back!”

Rose’s mouth snaps closed as her eyes go wide, meeting with Owlia’s, Cylica’s, and yours in succession. “O-oh! Uhhhhhhhh…” The way she avoids eye contact isn’t reassuring. “Hhhhooow about you come in, and, uh, maybe we can talk about-

A loud squelching roar quickly surprises the lot of you, as you look over towards the city. A quick beeping suddenly sounds from inside Rose’s room, and she quickly runs back in without a word. Before the lot of you can complain, she’s out once again. “Jackbox is loose again! We need to stop him!”

Bluebell sighs- although you think it’s a suspiciously glad sigh- and nods. “Alright, then! Contact the others and let’s get going!”

There’s a sudden flash as Rose transforms into the bepetaled frilly heroine you remember, and they both look at you with now apologetic smiles on their faces. “Sorry Miss Lady Charm and friends, but we gotta handle some other business!” They’re off in flashes that leave behind small petals, going to save the day again…

“Well, that’s just RUDE,” Cylica grouses. “What are we supposed to do until they get back?”

“Well...we could help them out, I guess? They way they’ll finish faster and-” Owlia’s quickly interrupted.

“No, no, they didn’t purchase those services, so they won’t get them. Frankly, I think it’s all too obvious they don’t have the money. We should begin acquiring collateral at once!” Cylica declares. “And this girl’s home would be the perfect place to start!”

Hm. Well…

“Leave ‘em be.” you suggest. “We probably can take a look around and appraise in the meantime- that doesn’t mean touch anything, though.” You say the last bit looking square at Cylica, who just huffs.

“Very well,” she acquiesces. “We’ll take a look around and see what’s worth repossessing.” She takes another look at the notes she’s written, and shortly her brow furrows in confusion. “What are ‘yen’?”

Right.

It’s about a decent twenty minutes until you hear a giant, gooey sounding explosion in the distance- you can only presume that means either the day is saved or it’s nearing it. In the meantime, however, you’ve already managed to identify a couple of objects that might be worth taking, thanks to your FutureSight. Not a lot, but it’s a start.

There’s a few more minutes that pass before hear footfalls behind you, as you see the girls- all of the Earth Angels, that is- landing gently outside the house. Most of them look nervous. Cylica just looks annoyed. “So, you are back, hm? Must we discuss prompt payment?”

Sunflower girl, to your slight surprise, shakes her head. “No, w-we understand! Here’s my share!” She’s quick to walk up to Cylica and hand over a...rather thick envelope, actually. Cylica is quick to snatch it up, before she quickly opens it and counts the bills, her mouth in a thin line.

After a second or two, she nods. “That’s one portion. Anyone else?”

Orchid huffs, but hands over another envelope. Owlia’s quick to check it, too, but betrays some surprise when she finishes.

“Violet ran short, so there should be extra in there to cover her.” she says irritably, before Owlia can mention anything.

“Ah,” Owlia acknowledges. “Then Violet?” The girl in question nods, then hands over her envelope. “M-my mom didn’t want me doing too much, even when I told her what it was for, a-and, well…”

Cylica’s groan of annoyance cuts her off. “Fine. As long as it evens out.” Sure enough, she’s short, but Orchid’s amount makes up for it.

Bluebell and Rose are the two left, and they both look down. “Uhhh...I ASSURE you I have some of it,” Rose admits. “It’s just I needed to spend some because of my folks kinda getting into an issue earlier, and well...you get that, right?”

“Of course,” Owlia nods. “But we still need the full payment, one way or another. If you don’t have it all, we’ll have to make up the difference. How much are you short?”

“Uhhh...by half.” She admits. Lesse, for her, that equals out to...30 Small Motes.

There’s a moment of chilled silence, before you turn to Cylica. “Take the vase.”

Rose startles. “Wait, no, that’s my mom’s! I mean, I bought it for her, but-!”

Cylica nods. “Done. Anything else you suggest?”

“Wait, you’re just going to take her stuff?!” Orchid yells. “You can’t do that, she-”

“Agreed to the deal, and so yes we CAN.” Cylica interrupts. Orchid’s face hits a deep red.

“The autographed portrait would be good, too,” you mention, looking at Owlia. She nods in response as well.

“You mean my signed picture of the original cast of ARGO?! Awawwugh, come on! That’s like...no one can GET that anymore!”

“Exactly,” Owlia points out. “It’s valuable. So, sorry, but we’re taking it.”

Her jaw drops. “That’s just...just cruel! What are you going to take next, my-”

“And the action figure. Apparently it’s limited edition, extremely collectible.” The noise that comes from Rose’s mouth isn’t something you are entirely sure is human as Owlia and Cylica head inside to gather up the objects.

“...I thought you were a legendary heroine, not some...money-grubbing merc!” Orchid complains. “I thought maybe we could work something out or maybe trade a favor, but-but you’re just taking her stuff like a common loan shark!” The lot of them look at you differently than they did earlier- it seems like it’s only really just now setting in what kind of person you are.

“Wait, what?” Violet asks, owlishly.

“We don't care if they're yours or belonged to enemies you dispatched,” you explain. “ Just so long as they're valuable and you have them in hand." You look at them carefully. “Or would you rather attempt to renegotiate the deal? Consider for a moment this fact: I and mine are not the ‘loan sharks’.”

Bluebell raises an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”

“I mean we answer to a higher power. We’re just the enforcers of their will.” you explain. All at once, you’re met with shock and surprise.

“Someone else…?” Sunflower wonders. “Who would...do this?”

“And why?” Bluebell wonders. “Is...is something wrong?”

“Yeah!” Rose quickly crows. “If someone’s got you under their thumb, we can help! You shouldn’t have to be like this under someone!”

A group of affirmations go up at this declaration, as Owlia and Cylica come out with the items in question. “What’s going on here?” Cylica asks curiously. “I wouldn’t have imagined anyone to be particularly jubilant about this…”

You eye them, their faces full of hope, vim, and vigor. Like they sincerely believe they can help you.

“Nothing,” you answer. “Just them being ridiculous kids.”

------------

The girls aren’t happy with your refusal, but they don’t question it for now; instead going back to Bluebell’s house. Unlike the situation with Rose, she asks you to wait outside for a moment. “I just...there’s probably something I have that’d be good money.”

You can’t say you’re not curious, and judging from the look on Owlia and Cylica, they are too. At your nods, she heads in alone- and before long, comes out with a surprisingly ornate and rather beautiful necklace. It’s ornate; a silver, heart-shaped piece inlaid with a orange gem in the shape of a star. “My...my older sister gave it to me. Said it was to remember her by, and always keep in mind why I’m doing this. To help people. The poor, the innocent, the young, the old...everyone who just wants to live in peace. There’s...there’s a lot of history with this necklace, but...” She looks at you with unblinking eyes. “I...I don’t think I’m gonna need it as much as you might.”

You quickly give it a check.

>Heirloom Necklace: 50 Small Motes.

Hm. Surprisingly expensive. Usually heirlooms aren’t so worthwhile since very few people want them.

Still. You’ve seen this before. Kid tries to give you something exceedingly valuable to them, and normally you plain can’t take it because of the bad value. This almost makes you want to, though- it’s expensive enough. “This would cover at least half of your due.” It’d by all rights be easy enough to transmute, and wouldn’t put her out of anything else. Practically, it makes sense. You think she knows that, too.

So when you casually toss the thing back at her, Owlia and Cylica aren’t the only ones with looks of surprise on their faces. “A free lesson. Never give something away if you aren't prepared to part with it. And you clearly aren’t. Besides, things don't keep their forms where we take them. They’re...let’s say converting. It helps everyone.”

“But...then...what about-” You stop the blunette short.

“We’ll find what’s a little less valuable.” Owlia offers. Cylica just frowns a bit.

“I thought WE had dominion over what’s taken or not…” she grouses.

“Yeah, but I think we can do fine with other stuff, huh?” Owlia suggests. Cylica just sighs and shrugs, and they head inside to case the place.

The end result is some weird stuff…

Owlia in particular is starting really really hard at the stones, both of them gleaming. She’s not getting it, even if you take it, though...

“Can we PLEASE get one of the stones!?” Owlia begs. You just shrug, which is responded to with a giddy squeal. Bluebell says nothing, but you can see her pout.

“This crown seems quite valuable…” Cylica notes. “If there are no complaints?” None from you. She actually has the gall to wear it...and as much as you hate to admit it, the small, russet-gold tiara-like headwear DOES actually work on her a bit. Well, at least it’s not sticking around. This one doesn’t seem to drag any kind of reaction out of her, either- which is good, honestly. The less complaining, the quicker you can get out of here-

“NO! Oh gods no, please!” Of course. As soon as Owlia comes out with that strange, boxy, minature microscope/printer machine hybrid, she latches onto the girl’s legs in supplication. “I went through SO much trouble to actually win that! I had to win three different game shows- I got SHOWERED in SLIME! TWICE!”

Cylica just gives her an amused grin. She’s...very clearly enjoying this. “That’s not helping your caaaaase…” Yeah, she’ll probably do fine in this gig. “So I think we WILL be taking it.”

Bluebell wails in despair, her mother standing by worriedly, but clearly not exactly willing to oppose you outright. The only consolation Bluebell has is a gentle pat on the back from Sunflower as Orchid and Violet both look at her with concern. Nonetheless, that’s the job sometimes.

Cylica keeps her smug look as she checks off something on her paper. “Well, I believe this should all cover your first payments. Do recall we’ll be back- and I’d suggest keeping in mind attempting to acquire something of your opponents that might be considered valuable.” Speaking for all the world like she’s an old hand at this, she marches back in front of you. “I believe that was all for this little excursion?”

Seems about so. Chances are Sal just wanted to give them an easy intro to the life- couldn’t blame him. “I think we’d be about set, yeah. You were told how to request pickup?”

“Certainly.” You can see her look off into the distance with no apparently reason- she’ll need to learn how to hide-

“Wait! How are we supposed to get the rest so quick? You said take it from villains, but do you really mean just...steal from them or something? What do we do?” Rose looks confused, and worried.

Aaaand you’re not in your apartment. You’re in...somewhere. It seems to be a large, empty room, roughly the size of a small warehouse, with tiled flooring and an off-white wall. You can see a small door...actually, wait.

This IS a warehouse. It’s a single bay door one, seems fresh...but it’s still a warehouse.

“Hooooow do you like it?” Huh. Sal’s using his voice now. The smoothness of it echoes along the vast emptiness as you turn around, seeing Sal standing there with his arms wide and proud.

“Sal…?” you ask questioningly. THIS was new.

“Well, I just thought I’d surpriiiiiiise you, dear!” Funny how he’s suddenly far more pleasant now. “You seeeeee, all things considered? I’ve decided that nooooooow is the RIGHT time!”

“The right time for what?” Owlia asks- she’s just as weirded out as anyone else here- you kinda wish Izumi and Lorelei were here, but you can’t see them.

And as Sal’s pupilless eyes literally glint in pleasure, that wish is doubled. “For EXPAAAAAAANSION!” He looks square at you.

“Congraaaaaaatulations, Division A Leader.” What. “You know what thiiiiiis means, don’t you?”

You let out a groan of annoyance. “Do I have to do a lot of paperwork now? Please tell me that's not what it means. Because I saw what it was like in Dynamic Methods. It’s a lot of that, taking care of underlings, and general increase in responsibilities without a raise, just a new title, right?”

The way he slithers over to you could be called creepy if you weren’t used to it by now. “Noooonsense! Wellll, not quite. You’ll be getting more paaaaay, that’s for certain! And sure, you might have to do a teeeeeensy bit of paperwork- but it’s nothing bad! But I can assurrrrrre you it’ll be worth it! In moooore ways than one! As a matter of faaaaact, since you’re so unsure? I might just throw in a liiiiitle sweetener because I’m so niiiiice! Besiiiides…”

He curls himself around you, not touching, but it’s still not something you’re a fan of. “You’re not doing aaaaaaanything else, hmm?”

Well...he wasn’t wrong. “Fine.”

“Faaaantastic! Then allow me to tell you the basics...” Ugh.

Basically, from what he tells you, since you’re a ‘Division Leader’ now (like that meant much), you’re authorized to utilize company funds in order to purchase general gear from special vendors for the team, which they can borrow. This includes uniform and general gear sets, certain weapons, and other such devices to improve the team’s efficiency and chances when they leave. This, combined with your own personal gear can make what could otherwise be a rough job into an easier one.

“We’re alllllso looking to spruce this place up a bit, oooobviously. I wooooon’t ask you to take out of your personal funds to do it, of course! Still, the moooore you’re willing to help out, the faster and better we can build up our brand-new headquarters! I’ve sooooome additions in mind I’m sure you’d love!” He says THAT with a side-eye towards Owlia. “The new girl would probably like it, toooo~”

“Whoa!” Well, speak of. Seems like Mono, Lorelei, and Izumi are back from their little tour. “So where’s this?”

“From what I’m aware, this is our new headquarters,” Izumi replies. Wait, so she knew before you?! “This is the main floor, and I was told there are a few facility rooms- bathrooms and showers, lockers for storage…”

“Heeeey, ‘Randa!” Well, at least Lorelei noticed you. “Wow, you guys got back quicker than I thought! How’re you liking our new digs?” She’s beaming, like this is the greatest thing ever. “Can you IMAGINE how it’ll look once we’ve really put some flavor into it? It’s gonna be awesome!”

“We’re going to need some money to DO that, though…” you can’t help but grouse.

“Welllllll, I’m sure you need a breather for now, so I’ll let you rest for a few days. Maybe walk aroooooound, who knows? Maybe you can find another poor soul around here looking for something to do- I’m authorized to employ two more so faaaaaaar." Goddamnit, Sal.

This whole thing has kinda blindsided you. If you had any questions, though, now was probably the time….

Blueprint will come in, yes. I want to make this special.

The general summary was pretty much at the top of the page. Long story short, wolf-girl got special permission to join up after Miranda took on a job that was protecting her and her siblings. Her biography is in the updated character details pastebin here: http://pastebin.com/9J70gqM2

"Mono is a transplant from a strange universe, and she's one of the most rare sorts in that she voluntarily elected to leave her world on her own volition, and under no duress. She's a wolf-girl hybrid that is considered a 'Siren'- that is, a being with strange aural magic that causes the scenery around her to change depending on what she sings. A desire to see new places and encounter new things is what drives her in the name of her 'god', a god of travel and wanderlust.

The meta whining went too far IMO but they got tired and left. The crossover was pretty fun but the scheduling was awful and both QMs went awol after claiming to be writing too often for my taste. It should be easily digestible now that you can just archive binge it.

The tl;dr is that Miranda and Purps were contracted to protect a touring musical troupe of reality warping sirens. Not only are they Kill On Sight monsters to the world at large, a planeshifting entity was murdering the girls and we were trying to figure out its motive and MO. We didn't think too good and by the end Miranda got frustrated enough to murder it with the power of professional spite.

How involved is this going to be, do you intend to micromanage this like a city builder and dating sim or is it just a bit of extra fluff?
>>

well I bailed since I figured that it would start going downhill once meta posts started to happen, and to wait it out till the crossover was over and people cooled their heads. I wouldn't have bothered to read it if it was filled with more drama. Guess I'll check later.
Speaking of new girls, all three have extreme stats, don't they? All three original crew don't have stats that reach A, while new guys, in which all three have A on one stat. Unless the stats are modified with equipments that is.
Sure, I know these stats don't mean much when things get down to it but it's interesting nonetheless.
>>
>>1715590
Well, thankfully (i think) is better for us to have lower stats, because we dont have to lower those stats when a new mission arrive. Remember when we had a.. B(?) On otherworldiness when we trained the new mg team. We looked like an eldritch/cosmic being.

I slept really late and really I'm not feeling good. But to answer some questions in a general way- specifically >>1715557

This is meant to be a bit of a shift in how operations work, so yes I'll be giving a lot of details. There will be a map, you will be able to customize the layout and what goes inside, and some other stuff. It's got consequences on gameplay, but it's not intended to be super micromanaging. Mostly this is kind of a fancy perk tree or the sort- the closest comparison my addled head can come up with is building back up the hamlet/village in Darkest Dungeon. Different upgrades bring different possibilities.

>>1715553
1. It'll be shown.
2. That'll be one of the possible upgrades.
3. Eventually.
4. Yes but that'll be offscreen because it's boring. Unless you vote for it.
5. Currently it's limited to 1 field, 1 support. You'll gain the ability to do others in due time.
6. Yes.

>>1715557
Yeah, it could've been better organized, but I had fun regardless. Not planning on doing anything like that again anytime soon, though.

Showers, lockers... “We’re not going to have to LIVE here, right?” If you had to give up your own place…

Fortunately, Sal just laughs at that, a weezing hiss of a thing. “Of coooooourse not! Althooough if you wanted to, you could likely order an expansion for any unfortunates without a place to stay.”

“Fine.” As long as you didn’t have to. “Then it’s all up to me how to build it?”

“Weeeellll, you’ll have to clear it with yours truly, but that aside, absolutely!” Huh. Well, that’s interesting enough…

“Ooooooh, wonder if we could have a neat little cafe in here!” Lorelei squeals.

“It might be nice to have a training area, if possible…” Izumi wonders. They seem to have already started on thinking up possibilities for the place...although that makes you worry more than anything else.

“Wait a minute, you two.” You quickly turn to Sal. “Just what’s our budget-” before you can say anything else you get a beeping from your FutureSight. A quick check reveals a large swath of text:

’Congratulations New User! You’ve been authorized as a Ulti-struct client! You now have access to the latest and greatest in ordering Outgoer building additions, upgrades, and renovations!’ Oh. Huh.

There’s another page it’s linked to; pressing it reveals a ‘map’ of the current building, as well as a new page on what you can add on, along with the relative price. Another beep, and you see you have another message- this one from Sal. Why did he not just SAY something…

‘150 to start out with, star! Don’t spend it all in one place!’ Oy. “Fine. We’ll worry about this later. If nothing else, seems like Owlia might get her old lab again.”

The whoop from the girl could probably be heard outside. “...Right. For now, I’m headed out. You girls coming with?”

“Ooh!” Lorelei squeals. “We could hit the bar! Haven’t taken wolfy to one of those yet!”

“Because I wouldn’t let you!” Izumi hisses. Mono just looks a bit confused, and Owlia and Cylica are jabbering away about what their laboratory might need.

“Well, you’re gonna get a bit more of one. Come on, we’re going drinking.” You quickly turn back to the now squabbling pair- you’re not sure what was going on, but it was discussing the merits of a ‘synth wave conductor’ versus a ‘mana field incapacitor’ and you’re already tired of it. “You two are coming, too!”

“Wait, what?” They both turn to look at you with confusion- bah, you’ll just tell them later. Right now, you're just looking forward to getting a drink...

Alright, so you’ve got to admit, Mono at the very least makes for an interesting tourist. She’s constantly asking questions about the place’s history, from basic stores (which you have to admit you’ve got no clue about) to other stuff like the GIANT domed area that she mistook for an arena which was actually the Grand Pavilion. The way she looks at everything isn’t the look of someone who’s confused and weirded out- it’s the look of someone who’s genuinely happy to see something new- someone that’s honestly fascinated by the place.

It’s...honestly kind of refreshing. And a bit weird, you won’t lie. Well, here’s hoping she won’t get too tired.

You all end the tour quicker than she’d like, when you all head over to the eatery district for a little upscale hole in the wall bar. Not the one you went to last time, because Mono had kinda convinced you everyone should go somewhere new. You weren’t opposed to that. And now...well, you can’t say you’re not having a good time. The place actually has a piano, and there’s a girl up there doing her best lounge singer act- her voice isn’t half bad at all. There’s some dancing going on, too- although it’s not club dancing, just typical floor dancing.

“Izuuuumi...why are you so drunk…?” Lorelei’s already three sheets to the wind, having had several drinks. “Yooou should set a better example!”

Lovely, Lorelei.

Izumi, for her part, isn’t very drunk at all- she’s had one drink, and seems to be holding it perfectly fine, ignoring her friend. “I hope that you’re not going to remember this…” she quietly murmurs as Lorelei leans on her, trying to snuggle in her shoulder.

Mono just looks at you strangely as you down another bit of raspberry schnapps. It’s a bit fruity for your taste, but it’s not too bad. Mono’s just drinking some hard lemonade, but her facial expression hasn’t changed since she got her first taste of the stuff, it having been suggested by Lorelei. Maybe she’s just good for it.

Before you can say much of anything else, someone comes up to your booth...you’ve never met this person before. He’s a tall fellow, with long, long silver hair, and bright, purple eyes that are shifting between yourself and Mono, he’s sporting a wide, mischievous grin that ends in sharp canines. He’s also dressed to the nines in a nice three-piece suit. “Sorry to interrupt your time there, but I have to ask, if the lovely lady with you is available for a bit of a dance…”

“Uhh...I’ll have to pass...I think.” The way Mono looks back and forth at him and the others makes you think maybe she’s not so sober after all.

“Awwww, but he’s hoooot!” Lorelei complains as she eyes the guy up. “You should TOTALLY do it!” The man just kind of just smiles wider at the drunken praise.

“I can assure you, I’m quite skilled on the dance floor…” he smoothly assures.

> “Let’s not and say she did.”

Also, where is cyllica and owlia?
>>
>>1720905
Around. I forgot to write their part, but basically Owlia dragged out Cylica out to the dance floor against her will and Cylica's trying to pretend she can waltz like someone who actually have practice.

That sounds adorable

>>1721046
She was. She just never got taught how to dance because she was focused more practical skillsets.

Oh. Okay. So she was more of a research type like Owlia I guess.
>>
Crap, will continue earlier tomorrow.

Wait, one question. How does mono's power work on the intersection and out of it?
If she reality warps some clothes before a mission, will said clothing give her a bonus as if they were bought?
Are her "constructs" as real as the real deal?
What are the limits of her abilities?
Can she sing something so it can stay "real" indefinitely?
With who will she stay while she gets her own place?
>>
>>1722139
1. Doesn't inside. Outside of it, it's area limited and has temporary effects so long as she's singing. She can make things show up, and they'll have mass and effect, but she needs concentration since she doesn't have other singers to back her up.
2. No, because she has to keep up a general act. When she stops, they dissipate- no magical inertia.
3. As stated above, they're as real as anything as long as she can focus on singing and concentrating. When that breaks, so does the illusion.
4. Nope.
5. That's up to you.

Anywho, will be running in about an hour. Been busy all day.
>>
>>1724539
So basically she's a Symphogear.
>>
>>1724574
uhhhh....I guess?

I don't know what the fuck a Symphogear is but I'm Googling as hard as I can.
>>
>>1724539
So that means we will have to train mono so she doesn't need to depend on someone protecting her?

>>1724574
A what?
>>
>>1724588
Essentially. She has some basic skill with a sword, but you can build her up in a number of ways. All depends on what you do with her- I'll elaborate more when the run starts.

“First, who are you?” You quickly interfere. This seems a bit too sudden, and this wouldn’t be the first time some creep’s tried to put the moves on you or your friends. Sure, Lorelei’s kinda more receptive than you, but still…

“Ah, beg my pardon.” He says. “I am Rovio, and I’m the sub-owner of this little watering hole. We’re not too large, as you can see, but there’s plenty of good drink, and good entertainment...and I hope the lady here wouldn’t mind doing me the honor of perhaps enhancing that last bit?” He says this with a winning smile as if he’s not being weird right now. “She has the eyes of someone new to our lovely little slice of paradise, and I’d feel remiss in not showing her the best of times.”

Lorelei just giggles into her drink. “Awwww, she’s cool. Buuuut, if you don’t want to, Monono, I sure wouldn’t mind taking your place!” The sudden flinch that crosses Rovio’s face tells you that he’s not all that keen on such a substitution.

“If you’re unsure of it, Mono, then by all means you don’t have to,” Izumi chimes in. Before you can weigh in further, the man casually places an arm on Mono’s shoulder- she looks to him curiously, but in that distance his face is nearly in hers.

“I’m sure you don’t mind, do you dear?” As he starts tugging on Mono’s shirt, you’re about to get up and tell him a couple of things-

-but that’s quickly proven needless when Mono hauls off, and with a loud CRACK, decks him square in the face.

The entire dance floor stops almost immediately- you hear a stumbling fall and a loud curse from a familiar, haughty voice as everyone focused their attention on the owner that’s now standing back with a shocked look on his face. Even Lorelei’s managed to shake off her drink briefly.

> “I think we should go.” And do so quickly.
> “I’m rather certain that answered your question.”

Kek. That was unexpected.

I've been giving it thought to mono's future training, and could she will "lesser" versions of the phantoms that were hunting her(of course, not them specifically, but i hope i made my idea clear)? She could be an excellent mook killer/crowd control agent if trained in that aspect.

Welp, you know when you’ve overstayed your welcome- you’re quick to get up, quickly dragging Mono along, as Izumi does the same with Lorelei who’s looking more than a little put out. “Well, then. I’m rather certain that answered your question,” you offer, as he still looks on you like you just gave him the worst possible insult ever (which you just might have, to his mind). “I think that all in all, we should go. ALL of us,” you mention, looking over to where Owlia and Cylica are pushing through the throng of people as you all quickly make haste out of the building, just as everyone starts to recover. It’s times like this you’re glad you have Red- the others have transportation as well, their own bikes, although none as high-spec as yours, in your own personal opinion. Each of you puts one of the newbies on your respective cycles’ back as you all quickly mount up and hit the throttle.

It’s only after everyone’s free and clear of the rapidly growing shouting that Lorelei bursts out laughing. “PFFTAHAHAHAHA! Yooooooo! That was greaaaat! Just, BAM!” Lorelei mimes Mono’s sudden piston-like snapping punch, nearly throwing Cylica off balance, to her consternation. “You’re cool people, wolfy!”

Mono can only blush- and you’re not sure that’s all alcohol-induced.

Cylica just huffs. “I can’t say I’ll miss that place! It was rather low-class compared to what I’m used to.”

“But...you said you’d never been on a dance floor before!” Owlia wonders.

“SHUT UP!” ...right. Time to find a better watering hole- maybe the one you went to last time would work out.

“This is amaaaazing!” the girl in question drawls out, shouting to the wind. “Where are we going next?”

“Who knows?!” Lorelei crows back.

Well, at least some of you are having fun.

Two sober girl, two drunken girls, an amoral scientist, and an egotistical ex-ruler all run from a bar...sounds like the start of a bad joke.

As you all converse while riding, the rest of the night, fortunately, goes a lot smoother.

What results is the lot of you taking in a small public show in the Festival District, where Lorelei got the brilliant idea to challenge anyone in hearing range to a dancing contest after criticising the sub-par quality of the ribbon dancers there.

She won, and ended up getting awarded a half-off coupon for a nearby clothing store who’s owner was impressed and just wanted her to plug the place here and there.

Mono wasn’t accosted again, but with being able to wander about in public without fear or negative effects on the others for once, that led her basically wanting to stop in anywhere and everywhere- luckily, the fact that she was so new was plain to see, and that led to more than a couple of shops jonesing for her repeat business via offering free samples of snacks, coupons, and other such gifts. By the night ended, you suspected she wouldn’t have to pay full price for anything for quite a while.

Owlia ended up drunk later after she accidentally munched on a rather juicy, yet alcoholic fruit- turned out she was a rather giggly drunk, and didn’t stop laughing at anything she found remotely funny until she passed out on the back of Izumi’s bike. Cylica was unamused, but clearly concerned.

What’s surprising is when Mono starts talking about her point of view of the job you were on. You’re not exactly happy about it, but eventually it transitions to the three of you being coerced into tell funny stories about jobs ‘gone horribly right’.

cont.
>>
>>1725611
Izumi recounts a rather amusing tale about one particular job that involved the entire conflict revolving around a poor, stupid boy hero failing to tell the girl he loved that he actually liked her- she’d apparently gone evil due to it. While it wasn’t funny at the time, she’d ironically found herself fighting against the hero in order to simply tell the girl herself- while not being allowed to ACTUALLY hurt him, as the client was the boy’s father and had originally been asked to ‘end the incredible threat’. Through some investigation, she discovered that the girl reciprocated, and checking their history of clumsy antics and unfortunate occurrences together, well...she’d gotten a bit clever, and had simply YELLED it to the girl once she’d infiltrated the girl’s dark base.

“I believe the exact words I used were ‘HE’S GOT A MASSIVE CRUSH AND IS TOO SCARED TO SAY SO, YOU ABSOLUTE IDIOT!’” she recalls, much to the laughter of the others. Quite expectedly, the girl didn’t believe her- so she hauled the hero in front of her to confess, which he did. “It was almost like nothing happened the very next day, and I was informed that she would be under close watch- but they DID appear to get together!” she recounts with a smile.

Lorelei tells a story about what she calls ‘the fastest job ever’. Apparently she was hired to infiltrate a major alien base, and retrieve some valuable intelligence from a race of mind-bending aliens. “I was feeling a little, uh...pent-up, y’know? Basically was kinda distracted with what I was gonna do when I got back, and...one of them nearly got their mitts on me, and I think he started to dig into my head, but then all of a sudden he lets go of me screaming. Guess my thoughts were a touch too spicy!” She’d ended up literally dancing (dirtily) through the base to the absolute and literally catatonic horror of every alien in range, plucking the datasphere up, and dancing out. “I had a PARTY that night!” She grins. Owlia just blushes, and Cylica seems pale.

Mono at least thinks it’s kinda funny. “Hey, better than what I’m used to! I WISH that was what I did back home.”

When it comes to you, however…

horribly right? hm.
how about an incident where a supervillian succeeded in it's plan of making an 'near-infinite' power source due to that world's hero messing up, only for it to be stolen at the moment before it was going to be connected to the doomsday device, foiling it's plans. of course, it was stolen by us who split up with the hero, to steal the source to sell it, getting a hefty bonus on top of succeeding the mission. of course, the source has been officially 'neutralized', and not like the dead villian will be able to talk what actually happened, and the hero was knocked down in the prior match.
>>
>>1725747
Lol, this
>>
>>1725616
A mission where we were subcontracted by a villain to be a competent minion.
And what a competent minion we were. We effectively no-seller all of the heroes and the villain successfully completed the construction of his orbital battle station and try to extort the world's leaders to surrender to him. Seeing their heroes fail actually lit a fire under the butts of the people, both state leaders and their citizens, to stop being victims always saved by caped crusaders, and united to fuck up the villain.
His station was proofed against super powered heroes, but not against the combined anti-orbital weapon arsenals of the US, China, and Russia.
We didn't care because the completion of the battle station was the end of our contract, and we already got paid.

Apparently after that, most villains saw the writing on the wall and retired before a spec-ops wetwork team hit their lairs.
