The dark energies swirl above your head like a twisting vortex, a spiral of despair and distress that spins and spins, pulling everything around it into the pitch-black center like a cavernous mouth, devouring endlessly, unable to satiate its eternal hunger.

Well, that’s probably what it is, if dark energies exist, which they probably, most likely do.

You are 99% percent sure. Just because you, Yamikigo Kyougetsu, can’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not real. Because it is super real.

And that’s final.

The source of your frustration and annoyance, of course, is a promise made at almost the start of the school year, one that’s probably long forgotten and he doesn’t remember. At all.

Okay, you’ll give Katsuya this one. He’s busy, you know that, but...

He sure wasn’t busy the week before. Or the one before that.

Okay, you sort of cornered him in the heat of the moment, but come on! He hasn’t played a single doubles game—tag-team, duos, whatever they call it—ever since that day.

He also hasn’t brought it up...

You shake your head, running your hands through your hair and messing it up.

You step out of the bathroom, sighing.

You should... stop thinking about this so much.

Yeah. Okay.

As if you had all the time in the world, you walk around,

And you run into...

Is that...

“...Saki?” you mutter under your breath, your mouth barely moving.

Her ears perk up as if she caught something important, and the long-haired girl turns around to see you. She’s in her school uniform.

Like a deer in headlights, you freeze.

Ah, she’s looking this way, she’s looking your way...

Saki says, “Kyougetsu!”

She’s... she’s getting closer.

Y-you should, ah, say something— “S-Saki, hi.”

Your eyes meet hers, and you feel your throat tighten.

Saki stands in front of you, her arms crossed while putting on a gentle expression. “Hey, how are you doing?” Her long hair flows down to her waist, almost reaching her hips. It’s so glossy and smooth...— “How come you didn’t check out our café? Come on, I’ll give you a discount. You like sweets, right?”—she’s so close, you can smell her perfume...

You’re...

You’re... so...

Jealous.

But you don’t have the right to be jealous, you think. You should stop standing there and say something already.

But it’s like your throat’s being squeeze, and your mouth’s clamped shut.

You...

You...!

“A-as the Empress of Darkness, I have quite the number of obligations to attend to! I have no time for m-maids or any of such things!” you puff up your chest.

“Really?” she says, slyly smiling, “Do you really?”

“Y-yes!”

“Oooh? Like what? I thought you didn’t have anything today.”

“Um,” you say as your eyes run around, looking for an answer, “I...”

“I’m looking for... someone?”

“Eeehn?” she says exaggeratedly, “Looking, or waiting? You didn’t seem to be in a hurry. Wait, don’t tell me, it’s a date, isn’t it?”

You feel your face rise in temperature. “T-the Empress of Darkness doesn’t do dating!” you shout. The people around you shift their stares to where you are, and you lower your head as you do your best to not physically curl up into a ball. “A-anyway, don’t y-you have a café to help run?”

“Oh,” she laughs, “We ran out of food. Oops, guess it was more popular than we expected. Half of the class didn’t want to continue, so we stopped and closed shop.”

“I see...” you say as you feel the stares relent. Good... good!

“Since I have nothing to do, why don’t I help you look for that someone?”

You blink. “...Huh?”

“Two eyes are better than one, right? Let’s go!” Saki says, “Who are you looking for?”

“Nn...” Oh no. What do you say? What can you say? You can’t say Katsuya, or even a boy’s name. Wasn’t there a rumor going around that Saki went on a date with him?

N-no, that’s ridiculous!

Y-you... you can’t say it, it’s impossible.

But you... you can’t... ah... ahhhhh!!

Lie, you have to lie!

Lieee!!

“K—!”

Saki raises an eyebrow. “K...?”

“K... Kururi!”

“...Ehn? Alright, let’s go find Kururi, then!” she says, “Do you have any idea she could be?”

Alright I'm apart of this now, just jumped in, no context or back story, but I'm gonna try to get some booty for our boy Yamikigo.

>>
>>1699040
Seriously though, there's an academy for people with psychic powers called Psions. Normally we play as a guy called Nekoyo, who is a new student there. His ability is to copy other people's powers when they use them. The plot's sort of meandred around a bit with a bunch SoL stuff with other students and occassionally getting into fights with a group of people who are targeting Kururi, our class president. Right now we're playing as Yamikigo, she's a Chuunibyo who Nekoyo teamed up with to win the practical combat exam at the begining of the year. I don't remember quite clearly, but I think a promose was made to team up with her or something...

>>1699105
>I know she's a girl our boy is a saying, like my dude or bud.
Yeah, I know. It's just that Our girl is an equally applicable phrase, so I assumed you thought she was a dude.

>But booty is the goal or what is that goal? Explain

I think the goal right now is to get Nekoyo to remember his promise?

“Maybe... the Student Council room?”

https://my.mixtape.moe/qczxpb.mp3

You pass by exhibits, students, and adults, almost swept up in the whirlwind of life. “I... I need to talk to Kururi about class president duties... so...” you say, “That’s... why I wasn’t in a hurry...”

“Relax, I was joking,” Saki smiles, “Do you mind if I call you Yamikigo?”

You look away. She’s...

Why is she being so nice to you?

She barely knows you, and still.

“I don’t mind,” you say.

“Then, call me Yuu!”

“Usagi.”

“Huh!? No, not you too!” she says, “Don’t call me that!”

You giggle. “Usagi is cute, I like it. Usagi, Usagi, Usagi—“

“Stoop that!” she cries, “You... you picked it up from him, didn’t you?”

You smile and turn away, “I have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about, Usagi.”

You two reach the room in what felt like no time at all. As you stop before opening the door, you wonder if this is a good idea.

Saki—no, Usagi—steps up, “I know them, they won’t mind if I bother them.”

“O-okay!”

She’s so reliable too!

You wonder... if you can be like that someday.

No, wait. You haven’t even reached your original goal in the first place!

Well, getting into this school was already an accomplishment, so that’s a step forward. But, you still have a long way to—

Usagi steps out saying as she leaves, “Thanks Fujisaki!” The long-haired girl then says to you, “We just missed her.”

“Oh, is that right...?”

“Fujisaki said they went that way, so let’s go,” Usagi says.

You nod.

...Oh crap! What are you going to do if you actually meet her? You’re going to need an excuse, aren’t you? Come up with something, quick! As thoughts run through your mind, the sound of Saki’s voice cuts through it all.

“Hey, Yamikigo.”

“...Yes?”

“Y-y’know, I saw your match against Yukikata the other day, from a week ago.”

...That was your 20th loss in a row...

“It would reflect badly on my reputation if I went all out against a mere mortal. I am an empress of darkness after all! Ha ha... yeah...”

She gives you a look while smirking. “Oooh? Aren’t you mortal too?”

“I-I’m no mere mortal! I’m a super mortal! An empress! An empress that rules of the domain of the shadows and all of those within in, including the 256 dark dragons!”

Her face tinges with nervousness, slightly taken aback, “Is... is that right?”

“S-so, what do you need with me?”

“Ah, I just want to get to know you better, that’s all,” she says, “After all, we’ve only seen each other during that one Home Economics class when your room blew up...”

“Right, that happened. But we got to make some super cool cookies!” you say, “So, what does this have to do with... um... my match?”

“The way you fight...”

”H-hah, I’m sorry, but the spot for my doubles partner is taken!"

“No, not that! I mean... so’s mine...” Saki says, “A-anyways, have you ever seen yourself fighting?”

“...Huh?”

“It reminds me of someone else, but... it’s different. It makes me want to do my best too, even if I’m only watching.”

“That’s why I’m an Empress after all! A ruler has to be inspiring!”

“Really?” She smiles, “Your expression when I saw you, it’s... ah, never mind. Just what am I saying?”

You shift your sight to the ground, slowly trailing behind Saki.

“I don’t really get it,” you say, “...but thank you.”

“...Hm? No no no, I didn’t do anything,” she says.

“Come on Usagi, don’t we have someone to find? Let’s go!” you say, picking up your pace, “Onward!”

As you storm outside to the courtyard, you instantly see Kururi and Katsuya talking to each other as they sit on a bench.

”W-what’s this!?” you mutter.

Saki says, “Oh look, there’s Kururi—“ She turns to you, only to see your eager face. You slowly move your hand to your mouth, putting an index finger to your lips indicating silence. She says, “What are you...”

“You’re interested too, aren’t you?”

“Wha... what would I be interested in?!”

“Shhh!” you hush, “Come on, let’s sneak close.”

At first she gives you an incredulous look, and then you watch as her will visibly crumbles before succumbing into sweet, sweet temptation. Quietly, tiptoeing, you get on the grass, then dropping onto your knees as you two begin to slowly crawl closer and closer.

Saki mumbles, “I wish I had my costume.”

“...?”

You continue until... you’re almost right behind them.

You hear Katsuya’s voice. “What’s your wish?”

Kururi replies, “That’s a secret.”

“Oh, that’s a secret?”

“Yup, I think I’ve told enough, haven’t I?”

“Then, what if I told you my wish? Deal?”

“Hmm...” Kururi hums, “Deal.”

Katsuya leans back and stares at the sky. He says, “Okay, but you can’t laugh.”

“I promise I won’t laugh. Cross my heart.”

“Uh... alright,” he shakes his head, “If I win the Nagareboshi, then, I would wish... to become a shrine god.”

Usagi coughs, choking as she reels back.

“Shhhh!!” you say.

Katsuya gets up and turns around, “What the—!?”

You say, “Uasgi!!”

She replies, “S-sorry, that surprised me. My saliva went down the wrong way—“

Kururi, only looking mildly surprised, says, “How long have you been there?”

“The entire time!” you say, laughing, “Ohoho, all of your secrets are now ours!”

Usagi gets up. “Just now, ugh. Don’t worry, all we know now is that Katsuya has brain problems.”

He says, “No, wait! That didn’t come out right!” The boy grips his hair in desperation, “It’s not what it sounds like!”

You say, “...Weirdo.”

“N-no, it’s complicated, it’s, uh, I want to be able to help people!”

Usagi says, “You should stop before you sound more like a lunatic.”

“Listen! Are you telling me those lousy shrine gods are doing a good job?”

You say, “You believe in shrine gods? That’s a surprise...”

Kururi says, “I thought you hated Nishishio?”

Usagi finishes, “Tsundere.”

Katsuya cries out, “Gah, that’s not the point!”

You look away, half joking, “My opinion of you has lowered significantly. I very much doubt you have the favor of the shadows for any longer.”

Katsuya’s shoulders droop, the circles in his eyes sinking in, “I misspoke! Ah, forget it, I’m out of here!”

You begin to stop him, but you remember what you told Usagi.

A tightly wound heart, tighter than yours.

Every time you look at him, you can tell, he’s different. Something’s changed since you saw him years ago, when he was still shining like a star. You remember his eyes, how bright they were, how bright he was when he would raise a bandaged fist in the air and say a cool line.

That’s why you went for Tetsuyashi Academy.

You saw how in a battle, when you see your opponent’s expression, it tells you everything. Everything you need to know about them, and more. If they run away when they get knocked down, or if they get back up only to fight. If they rely on their friends, or choose to go alone to protect them. If they force a smile when they get hurt, or if they cry.

A place where maybe you can be you.

But sometimes, when you look at Katsuya, you don’t see anything at all.

When he smiles, or laughs, or gets angry, even then, it’s like...

You can’t tell what he’s thinking, if he’s thinking anything at all.

You didn’t even know his wish until now.

You know Usagi’s favorite dessert. You know Kururi’s birthday. You know your rival’s wish.

But you can’t even get an inch from him.

Seeing him like this...

You bite your lip.

You hate it, every second of it.

You take a step forward, then another, and another. All the way until you’re behind him, and you grab his hand.

He looks at you with surprise, and you pull him back. Back until where he was before.

“Y-you...” you mutter, “You need to make your decision...”

“Wha...?” the boy says, and then it clicks for him, “Wait, didn’t I have until the end of the month?”

“Too bad, you wasted your time,” you say.

Kururi asks, “What’s this about?”

You say to Katsuya, “Y-you... um, well, I’m... I’m a little weird, and you somehow put up with me, and you’re a little weird too... so um, why don’t we be weird together?” You flush red when the words didn’t come out right. No, you need to say it with confidence! Why is it so hard? Why do you always— “D-doubles! Let’s do doubles together, you as the retainer to the great Empress of Darkness!” No... no! Say it normally, properly! “Or... as... equals...”

The best you could do.

You look at him.

His eyes shakily wander.

The date is April 25, and the year is 107 AI.

The date on the recording that’s playing on your phone reads April 24, only yesterday.

Your name is Katsuya Nekoyo, and you are not watching yourself fight. It makes you uncomfortable.

This is a bad habit to form—and you know it—but you’re not exactly in the right state of mind to put up with discomforts right now.

Earlier today, Kururi gave you far too much to mull over. Your head still hurts about it now; you also said something embarrassing that makes you deeply regret existing. And to top it all off, Yamikigo goes ahead and makes a scene in front of everyone.

You stop thinking about the past, and instead, focus all of your nonexistent energy elsewhere. Like on the match of a familiar, fox-faced Nishishio boy who happens to be your next opponent, one that likes selling pickled levia.

Running across the dry, cracked earth of a desert, he chases after a second-year Tetsuyashi student, who’s firing her dual wield psi pistols. The projectiles that come out is nowhere near as fast as real bullets, but they don’t need to be—they fly out of the gun and miss their target completely, only to stop in midair and loop back.

The levia boy, whose name escapes you, pulls out a pike and swiftly sweeps it through the air. Its tip is of his psi, not steel, and it rips through the energetic bullets in half with ease.

You watch as he closes in, completely unfazed.

That’s his psionic art?

No way. Anyone could pump their psi into a device like that.

Your head hurts.

Rubbing the bridge of your nose, you look around your room.

White walls and a white ceiling cover where your bed and desk doesn’t. The PC’s seen better days. It’s pretty outdated, but you couldn’t bother constantly keep up with it.

There’s a poster of a mystery solving duo on a wall that you taped on when you realize your place looked like a robot lived there. You liked the detective with the scarf more. Kaori preferred the smug one.

Video games?

Occultic;Ronpa came out a while ago, meaning you should probably get on that, but...

You should practice.

Even if you can’t do anything crazy in your own home, you can at least try to figure out what’s happening with your new arts.

15/300 - Tempo (Nachi)

You sit there for a second, thinking about what Tempo does.

48/300 - Tempo (Nachi)

After racking your head for a few minutes, you find the answer to that is absolutely nothing, as far as you can tell. It only makes your psi pulse like a heartbeat, which is intensely unnerving to feel.

239/300 - Illusion (Anporin)

Redshifting and blueshifting wavelengths to distort color and bending them with refractions, that makes your head hurt. Who on earth could compute these things instantly without a device?

Maybe something else.

Refraction is useless if the light doesn’t pass you. That means solid, opaque objects are completely useless? You can do better, like getting the light to actually pass you. Forget making fake objects, if you could do this, you could be invisible.

You lay down raising your hand in the air. On the edge of your fingers and palm, you see it glow orange as the light from the ceiling light manages to pierce through.

Oh.

383/300 - Illusion (Anporin)

83/350 - Illusion (Anporin)

You clench your fist, and feel your psi flow through the length of your arm. Second by second, it grows more and more transparent.

You kind of look like a ghost now. Creepy.

Shaking it off, you attempt to clear your mind of that plethora of things you can make half-invisible now.

It is now the 26th.

That felt forever.

It also felt forever when you dragged yourself up early in the morning, when you bought some cheap sandwiches from the convenience store, when you finished your quick checkup that made sure you weren’t carrying high-explosives into the arena and that someone hasn’t snuck high-explosives into you the night before.

The feeling stuck on as you walked into the stadium once more, seeing the levia boy on the other side.

Oh right, he has a name: Kamiya Umida.

As the announcer’s droning on, you see the fox boy give you a smile.

You give him a slight frown, and shoot out a peace sign. The fox boy has that same smug grin as Mita back then, and it makes you really want to wipe it off his face.

Match two of the Cultural Festival starts, and your surroundings gives way as the stadium system kicks in. The ground, walls, and ceiling glows white, as psi sweeps in and rebuilds your world.

Making a note to yourself to not go all out lest you get to hear more stern lectures, you first hear the sound of sand beneath your feet, and then you feel a cool breeze. When a crashing ocean tide reaches your ears, you see the night sky forming and realize—you’re at the beach.

Ugh, you hate the water.

With the moon half hidden by clouds, it’s hard to see. An advantage for you, and yet...

“We meet again, Nekoyo!” Umida shouts as he lightly run towards you. He pulls out his spear and spins it, sliding his grip from the sharp end to the back.

You send out your psi field as you brace yourself.

Roll 1d100s.

Combat!

From the start until now, I’ve just been taking 1d100 rolls and using them whenever according to the plot, but I think it’d be better if you guys got to choose what to do with them.

Where as
Success = A roll counting for the success of your action.
Record = A roll counting for recording the opponent’s art.
Improve = A roll counting for ranking up your own arts.

Using the first three rolls, future prompts will ask for

>Success, Success, Success (Becomes a best of 3 roll.)
>Success, Record, Record (Two rolls add up and count for recording.)
>Success, Record, Improve (Splitting it up.)
>Success, Improve, Improve (In the event you don’t want their psionic art.)

I’ll ask for rolls after this has been voted on.
*Totally didn’t steal this system from a shitty mobage

You shouldn’t get close, especially when you have no idea what he can do.

Especially when he knows what you can do. There’s no way he didn’t see you knock out Mita just by grabbing her.

Your psi first up, and you send it forth. The sand takes in your psi, rumbles, and then it explodes, kicking up a cloud of dust.

Backing away while hiding yourself, you try to figure out as much as you can.

There’s a small wall that stops you from escaping out of the beach, and at the far ends, the grainy sand start to become large stones. The fox boy’s silhouette comes staggeringly close, cutting through the air in attempt to get rid of the dust cloud.

“Don’t run, I know you’re not one of the runners. Come on out!” he says, covering his nose, “In that case, ain’t I lucky that we’re near the water? Or maybe it’s just fate.”

His eye glows an unnatural cyan, and you freeze.

The air grows impossibly thick, his psi pouring out of him like a waterfall. This much...—!

121/250 - ??? (Kamiya Umida)

You see the horizon bulge out, and from the ocean, a huge mass erupts from underneath. A curtain of water slides off of the beast as it rumbles. Without warning, it rears its head back, and spits out a jet of water almost as thick as your arm span is wide.

[35]

In the last moment, you jump out of the way, the water clipping you only at the edge. It saw you clearly!? You roll and get back up, annoying at being soaked and covered in sand. The dust cloud had been almost completely dispersed with that attack, the sheer force from the attack knocking the air out of the way.

“So that’s where you are,” Umida says to you, “You ever seen a leviathan before?”

He grins.

You watch the oversized eel lumber and begin to get closer. Momentarily stunned, you snap out of it.

You say, “What the hell is that?”

Umida replies, “Didn’t you say the other day that it was delicious?”

Forget that, if you take out Umida, then that thing should go away, right?

With that, you immediately head for him.

The boy grips his spear, and points it toward you. Oh, this is going to be uncomfortable.

“You should put that down before someone gets hurt,” you say.

“Right, you.”

[98!]

You take a step forward—and instantly stop, as the ground before you gets sent into the air. Another water attack, but you take the chance. Leaping ahead, you bring up a barrier at an angle as Umida strikes.

The psionic tip of his spear stabs into your barrier and bounces off, allowing you to grab the length of it.

His eyes light up again, and you twist the pointy end away as it extends forward, cutting the air where your face was a second ago.

Staggering, you push your footing so he’s halfway between you and the leviathan.

124/400 - Perfect Pitch (Rori Shiba)

[93]

You feel your psi lighting up again, and you run it through the device. Gripping tightly, you use Perfect Pitch, and the polearm shudders violently. It swings back and forth, knocking Umida back.

With that, you rip the weapon away from his hands and step back. Your hands slide along the shaft, and you feel his psi.

Psi Signature Recorded.

And immediately replace it with yours. Using a device using someone else’s psi, that’s just absolutely filthy!

You move the end of the pointy stick toward him. “Ready to give up?”

“Hah!” he says, “Just because you have my art doesn’t mean anything!” But, you don’t have his art? Why would he say that? “I doubt a city kid like yourself goes hunting.”

“...You don’t know that,” you say.

“What, you hunt pigeons?” he says, walking backwards, “As if they’ll do you any good.”

You take a good look at the fox-eyed boy and then the levia.

Ah.

“I’m no good with animals or using spears,” you admit, smiling, “but people, that’s a different story.”

Umida instantly pivots on his foot, running for the ocean, toward his pet leviathan.

[99!]

You could have a thousand ways to finish this, but you settle on the barrier, Your psi fires up, and you feel your psi field rip forward, like pulling on a piece of cloth from the middle.

Instant barrier.

Umida runs into it, stopping abruptly but not completely as if he was running underwater. Just as it looks like he manages to get through it, he slams into another one. A second one you fed with psi from your body.

The leviathan shoots out another attack, but you easily dodge it. It can’t even come on land, and the water has to cover a tremendous distance before it even reaches you. If he was really lucky, you would be on a boat instead.

But you’re not. This fight, it makes you think your previous ones, the one you keep losing. The more you think about it, the more it ticks you off.

This...! This is how it normally goes, how it used to go! You shake your head as you sprint toward Umida. Expect no less from the big leagues, huh?

Finishing your sprint, you grab the back of his sweater and pull him back, and when he comes into range, you put your palm on the back of his head.

Psi Blast.

A bright flash of light, and then he drops down onto the ground, unconscious.

You hear the sound of a horn, and then the beach disappears, piece by piece. Your name’s called, and then the word “Victory.”

You stare at the glass dome as it clears up. You can make out some applause and cheering, but it’s nothing.

With mixed feelings, you walk out of the stadium.

You don’t know what’s gotten into you, but all of a sudden you genuflect in the general direction of Umida.

A second passes, and you stand up feeling accomplished and thoroughly fulfilled. As you turn around, you instantly see Kaori, who was waiting for you.

She says, “What... what were you doing?”

You stare at her. “Paying my respects.”

“...Well, ah, congratulations, Onii-sama!” Kaori claps her hands together, “You managed to do something without getting hurt in the process!”

“Thank... you?” you reply, “I wasn’t expecting to find you here.”

“I helped dragged your body onto a wheelchair two days ago, remember?”

“Can’t say I did. So, how did I do in the match?”

Kaori says, “From a scale of one to ten, with one being ‘About to be sent to a hospital bed for the third time in a month,” and ten being ‘Bullying,” It was about an eight.”

“An eight?”

“You got hit,” she replies, “How did you get hit by that?”

“Hey, I didn’t see it. At all.”

“Shall I bring that down to a seven?”

“No thanks, I’m good,” you say, “The other match is about to start, right?”

“Eehn?” Kaori says, “Can’t you watch the recording later?”

“I could—“

She cuts you off, “You know what they say, if you could have you should have. Now, let’s go! I heard Sirens were coming here to play today!”

“I don’t think that’s how the saying goes,” you say as you’re dragged off.
