/qst/ - Quests

Welcome to the first testfire of Slayer Kaiju Attack! It's a game about hunters fighting monstrously sized creatures, and is completely a rip-off of monster hunter in many, many regards! Have you ever wanted to hunt monsters in a skirmish game? Ever wish you had a simple at first system on hand with an immense amount of depth and tech within it that not even the creator of the game thought was possible? Do you think the only decent tasting meal is made from prey you've hunted down and slain with your own two hands? Then look no further than Slayer Kaiju Attack!

Note: Slayer Kaiju Attack! was made and is operated by Fenster. Monster Hunter references, bad puns, subtle puns, and homages to other skirmishes include some facets of exposure you will receive while playing or viewing this game. Please make sure you've taken all prescription medications recommended to you by your doctor and to keep an epipen on hand in case of an episode caused by over-exposure. Thank you for your time.
>>
To anyone who is interested in participating in this game: follow this guide to make your character, and then post a reply to THIS POST with the action >Ready to hunt!

If it wasn't obvious or you're a new player to the thread, feel free to communicate with other players either in the thread or in the irc client here: https://client00.chat.mibbit.com/?server=rizon.mibbit.org&channel=%23Skirmish
You will also find me in there willing to answer any questions on top of sending out previews for what is to come next. Please be kind and courteous.

With that said, I'm giving this 25 minutes as of this post to start the test. In the meantime feel free to ask questions either in here or the irc room, or to converse with other players. Roleplaying is allowed and even encouraged so long as it's fitting to introductions for now.

Don't worry about not starting off with the class you want, given you can acquire that class later on once they've been introduced!

White ammo is Normal type. Pink ammo is Paint type (pretty much long-distance paintball en masse). Red ammo is Tranq type (for capturing monsters). Finally the Shock Trap is the purple lightningbolt. Sorry for any confusion.

The southern swing up and allow out three oversized boars into the arena.

"These are known as Enteledonts, and given their size they're quite young. That's right, they grow to be bigger than your house and it takes less than a year for that to boot! Stick to a higher elevation and they won't be able to harm you, but if you must approach on foot try to stay to their flanks. Their tusks haven't grown in yet but those jaws can crush bone and armor quicker than lightning. Don't try to stay behind them either, as they'll kick you so hard you'll get sent flying even if you're prepared to take the brunt! Your goal is to take all three of these out. Good luck compadres!"

Given how long it's been since anyone else has posted, I'm gonna toss you some pointers for future reference when it comes to what you can do.

>When you make any attack, roll 1d100 to determine Stun.
>To maximize your damage output and control, aim for limbs and the head if able.
>AoE will hit on each space a monster occupies, so you can stack multiple hits with the same attack if it has an area of effect.

Apologies if any of this feels intrusive or condescending. Just trying to kill some time while waiting for another player to post.
>>
>>1682422
Tips like that are always welcome in a skirmish. Not everyone can determine the whole class meta by just reading the rules.
>>
>>1682422
What I would like to know though is what do you do with whetstones and paintballs. My MH experience is practically nonexistent.
>>
>>1682428
>>1682424
True. Thing is, the vast majority of the rules are not on the sheet given in the past I've been one to frontload the system too hard for most new players to make sense of it.

Oh that's easy. Whetstones in MonHun are used to maximize your weapon's sharpness and are of the same use here. Unlike MH the 'sharpness' meter in this game is more along the lines of upkeep on extended hunts or skirmishes instead of keeping the damage scaling high.

Paintballs are used to mark quarry targets, which are larger monsters than what are in the map already. In MonHun they just highlight what zone the monster is in, but when the rest of the map is finished there will ideally be no major zones. Because of this the paintball will mark the monster and provide an easy to notice means of tracking the monster as well as prevent camouflage/cloaking/skulking from happening. Some skills will also take effect on a painted target!

"Now that you've got yourself a taste of the dangers out there in the wilds it's about time to tell yah about Health and Damage. Half of the damage you take is gone and cannot be healed naturally. The other half (rounded up mind you) is recoverable and marked in red on your HUD section. This is all immediately recovered when you Rest but to do that you gotta spend a whole turn to catch your breath. You can use one of your Potions to recover 5 HP, but healing outside of natural recovery will start where your green health is. On the other hand non-natural recovery will be able to let you recover more than what you would naturally! Keep your eyes peeled for an opportunity to use the best course of action when it comes to tending to yourself."

Yes, asked in the chat room in OP.

>>
>>1682534
By dodging as a tap action, you can spend 1 SP to move two spaces in a single direction (diagonal works as well but only with cardinal movement) while avoiding incoming attacks.

I ran out of space to include the Stamina tutorial on the sheet so it's in bits and pieces until I can reorganize it a bit.

Here's the updated character generation sheet. If you want to change classes you may do so now! Make sure to reply to this post so it's easier to keep track of it.

>When changing class, you still retain the two skills you had from your previous class as 'known skills' but cannot access them until you change back to the class which they belong to.
>You get to pick 2 skills, get the basic class gear, but do not gain the Starting Inventory for the class. (after all, it's starting bonus)
>You also do not get a second set of Trainer Gear since you already have one.

The current limit for duplicate starting gear is 2 per item. Therefore no more than two characters may be the same class at once until more gear has been acquired.

General rules for messing around in the Village:

Anything in particular you're looking for? I've still got plenty of room for class development, and having an idea of what the lineup is missing would be welcomed.
In regards to races, their traits have been balanced to show their point in origin to class as well as being strong enough for viability outside of the class the race created.
Other races would have been included already but they do not fit the well-rounded aspects that the game requires.

And the mammoth would sleep right through it, too. Anyway, he and his hunting party got it in their heads that they could take out [Skybreaker Gelidapas]. Crazy, right? Problem is, no one knows if they coulda done it, because they disapeared sometime after leaving their settlement, never even made it to the Skybreaker. I've been asking around, trying to pick up their trail, so, any clues for where Grandpop Bind went from here?"

Now we begin preparations for the next hunt. Harvesting, carving, and arena fights are no longer available, but other village actions such as visiting the stands, buying/selling items, managing the stockpile, etc are still allowed as normal. It is also during this phase that all non-Guild items in a player's inventory are automatically deposited into the Stockpile in order to better figure out what resources the village has altogether.

Hunt Requests
=Each Hunt Request has a Level, which is vindictive of the difficulty the request is estimated to be.
=Each Hunt Request has a required down payment in order to participate, which covers travel costs, tolls, and goes towards funding the production of Guild items.
=Parties can only have one quest active at a time, and must form up before departure.
=Reward is the base price that completing a request will provide. There are additional rewards, such as carves recovered by the Guild, or gifts the quest givers wish to convey to their helpers.
=When a player faints during a quest they'll be carted back and the cost for the Emergency Evac is doubled before reducing the quest rewards by that amount (unless pre-purchased)
=Sub refers to a secondary objective. Fulfill it and you will receive additional rewards, or even finish the quest without requiring the main objective. This does not clear the quest, mind you, but it does allow you to come out of a quest without it being a total failure.

Please make sure to reply to this post with your preparations!

I do have one class in the pipe for using reach weapons to vault using their length on top of sporting aerial maneuvers. Though all of their movement needs to be aimed and takes place as a line of effect. Their specialty use is getting mounts and their damage is from aiming their strikes while other melee weapons don't have that luxury. Think dragoon class from final fantasy, or yes the insect glave from recent monster hunters.

Nope! The tickets are tacked onto the party's departure sheet and the courier teams lurk- I mean sit on standby in the area so they can keep an eye on the party. To use a ticket effect just signal them with an action saying which ticket you want to turn in. This can be used with Emergency Evacs even if the party member has yet to faint as it doubles as a free ride back to the base camp.

Departure for Tadpole Trouble has commenced!

The Blue box is what the guild restocks between hunts. From top to bottom you have a Map, First-Aid Meds, Mini-Whetstones, and Paintballs. There is also a few Paint Mags and Normal Mags. Only the Map, First-Aid Meds, and Mini-Whetstones are removed from inventory when completing the hunt.

Given that the main objective is in hand and the major threat to the hunt has been slain, if the thread is archived before the mission is officially completed then it'll be considered a success at this point. I would like to thank all players who participated in the test-fire and hope to see you all return when problems on my end have been ironed out.

Once again, thank you for your time.

With the quest complete, the party returns to the village to count their spoils and review the courier's carves! Take note of what has been acquired above the Stockpile.

And with that: End of Quest!
