>Man is quick to forget that the monsters he fears most are not the from the unknown void, but the ones of his own creation. For these monsters he is fully familiar with, and thus knows their capacity.

>You're falling. The wind whips your face, dragging the tears streaking from your eyes back and flinging them away.
>The surface of the water is rushing up to meet you. Your intestines twist with the dread, and your lungs struggle to draw in air as you release the final scream of a man faced with the absolution of his death.
>Your scream of terror is cut off when you impact the surface of the black, rolling, frigid water. Your last feeling is bones snapping, ripping cruelly through your pulverized skin, and the disgusting sensation of internal organ rupturing from the inertia and collision.

*BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP*
Bloodshot eyes jump open and you recall the horrible dream you had. You switch off your alarm and look around your room. A pretty average piece of work all in all, but the fairly modern computer tucked away in the corner of the room, and the light drifting in from the window increases the homeyness of the room.

You smell your Mom downstairs making some eggs for breakfast, and Dad is still probably fast asleep considering the factory has been getting more orders and so his hours are up. You throw on some jeans and a hoodie.

>Looking in the mirror you see...

>Daniel Bolstad: Minor player on the football team, usually on the bench, but hey it beats nothing. Daniel isn't the best at grades, but generally scrapes by.

>Luke Harrington: Small time delinquent, and couldn't give two shits about grades.

You walk down the stairs to the kitchen and grab a plate from one of selves and load some eggs and sausage on it. Before you tear into it you mutter a quick good morning to your Mother, and she begins her favorite side-hobby, questioning you like an old KGB operative.

"So did you sleep well?"

"I guess..." You reply with a shrug of your shoulders.

"Well listen, I need to head to Mrs. Arthur's house and help her with some issues she's been having. Are you still friends with Nick?" She asks as she walks around the kitchen gathering up her bag, and other supplies. Considering Mom works as a psychiatrist, she always gets called by her friends so they can vent to her, and they give her money to do a service a real friend would do for free.

"We're in the same classes, and we talk occasionally." Truth to be told you couldn't care less about Nick, but its less troublesome this way.

"You guys are going to have to run a few errands for me while I'm talking to his mom, so listen. I need you to get the groceries, the list is on the fridge, and also check by the laundromat to see if Dad's dry cleaning is done. Okay?"

"Gotcha." You mutter as you pick the list from the fridge, and head out the door.

Its only about five minutes until you arrived, and you find Nick already waiting there for you leaning against his fence. His eyes dart quickly, and he glances back at the house once or twice.

"Listen man, its a war zone in there. Let's get going."

With Nick in tow you decide which of the errands to do first.

You decide to go do the dry-cleaning first, and head into the town center. From there you cruise down a few small streets until you are outside the laundromat. Walking in, you flash the ticket for your father's dry-cleaning and walk out with the suit-bag. As you walk back with Nick, making small talk as you about some chemistry test that you both have yet to study for; you hear a slight muttering from one of the alleys.

Listening in a bit closer, you hear something strange.

>"SoOn... son... loOK how yoU'Ve GROWN..." whispers a voice like waves upon the shore, crashing strongly at first then drawing back with even rhythm.

Nick seems to have noticed your slight distraction, and says "Hey Thomas, come on. We still need to pick up the rest of your mom's shit."

Deciding to shake it off as trick of the wind, you do an about face and keep walking with Nick. As you move away from the alley, you feel the feeling of slight amusement coming from it.

>So EAger to pLAy, yet so rELuctANt to ADmit IT.

You head to the grocery store, and pick up all the various foods that your mom wanted for you to buy. Looks like you're eating pasta sometime this week.

Nick walks back to his house with you, walks up to the door, opens it and mouths that its clearly going to be a while until your mom will be back home. You quickly make the short walk back to your house, and say hi to your dad as he sits on the couch watching TV, nursing a mug of coffee.

"How you doing champ?" He asks. Oh right, he's generally bearable only when he doesn't has to get up at the crack of dawn and wake everyone up.

"Alright, picked up the groceries and your dry-cleaning." You say.

"Good to hear, going to need that next Saturday for that weird doctor banquet your mom drags us into." Oh damn, you forgot completely about the dinner the local hospital hosts for the staff and their families. Its generally a formal affair, but you could be doing so many better things with your time.

"Hey Dad, don't suppose I could miss it this year?"

"Take it up with your Mom not me. You know how she is with these things."

Taking the loss you go upstairs and do...

You pull your chemistry textbook out of your bag, and grow a small smirk of mild amusement. Organic chemistry? Time to make carbon your bitch. Flipping through the chapter until you get a basic idea of the organization of the carbon chains and such, you then turn to the back for the extra problems that will probably be on the test.

After about an hour of relentless studying you start yawning, and the letters on the page start fading in and out as soon you are passed out on your bed with a textbook in your lap, which is not that uncommon for you lately. Slowly but surely, you fall through your bed, and then all is black.

>You're in water once again. You remember the movie Open Water, nothing but the rolling water around you, except for a small glint in the distance.

>Unsurprisingly, being pulled down into the depths by some tentacled monstrosity is somewhat against your wishes at the moment, you've seen enough hentai to know where that ends up. Prying the tentacle from your leg, you wrestle the suction cups of your leg with no small amount of effort. Once free you struggle to return once again to the surface, and bob up and down once or twice to catch your breath.

>Deciding it would be best to get away from the underwater predators, you begin to swim towards the glint on the horizon. As you approach it gradual grows into a small island, with next to no actual landmark. only being about a football field in size. Floundering upon the shore you look upon the island and are summarily relived/disappointed by the scarcity. Besides a few larger black rocks, there is nothing present upon the island asides from the fine black sand. As you collapse on the shore and catch your breath, you try to recollect how you got here and what is exactly going on.

>"N/o/t g/e/tt/i/ng /a/w/a/y th/a/t /e/a/s/i/ly, b/o/y!" Roars a voice emerging from the increasingly bubbling water. A tentacle emerges from the water, and moves about in the air, akin to a dog sniffing for food. You jolt up and begin to run further in land- and that seems to have tipped it off to where you are. Seeing how the tentacle rockets towards you, and you only have a few seconds.

>The tentacle quickly flies towards you.

>Time seems to slow, glistening water drips from the white chitin tip of the speeding appendage.

>Your legs tense and you leap out of the way. As soon as you impact the sand, time speeds up once more. The tentacle flies past what seems to be its limit, and smacks off a rock, ripping the limb in half.

>"D/a/mn/a/bl/e/ f/o/o/l..." Emerges from the water as the tentacle retracts into the depths. All is left is you, the desolate island, and the leftover appendage flipping around on the shore. A deep fog sets in and cuts off most vision around the perimeter of the island.

"TeRRibly sORry fOR thAT chILd. HOwever YOU perFOrmed ADmirably fOr yoUR FIrst TIme." Speaks a voice from behind you, the same voice that you heard before from the alleyway with Nick. You whip around in shock, and behold the origin of the voice.

His face obscured in a hazy, constantly moving shroud of smoke, with two bright glowing points that appear to be eyes leering at you. His hands held in the traditional saint style. Which leads to the next most horrifying part of his visage. A massive gash is cut through his chest, and his rib cage should be visible. However all that is to be seen is a gibbering mouth with snaggle teeth, and single unblinking eye with an iris of black and white.

That being said will we learn more about this eldritch beings as we evolve and grow? Though I am kinda surprised that you decided to have one of the clear cut reasons why Elder ones need humans was not only for food, but for bringing another into being.

Still kinda not sure how that'll play out, is this following the same lines as Predators and aliens where humans are just cattle to feed the hunters little trophy pets or...?

Alright. Back to it then.

Waking up slowly, and raising your head off the pillow you turn off the alarm clock and let out yawn. The signature sign of a well-rested young man. Swinging your legs off the bed you stretch, and slowly look down as you hear the wet flop remiencsent of a wet sock full of butter hitting a wooden floor. The Stomach-maw and Gut-Snakes that you had in your dream...

>It wasn't a dream.

Breathing slowly, trying to get a hold of yourself as the Gut-Snakes receed back within you, and with a release of held in sigh your Stomach-Maw stitches close. Standing up you can not help but think that your up-coming chemistry is no longer the biggest challenge on your plate... Needless to say the game has changed.

It's 8:00 AM by the time you finished getting cleaned up in the shower, during which you could not help but run your hand along the all but invisible line that once was a gaping maw of many teeth and other horrible things. Coming down the stairs you eat some breakfast after saying good morning to Mom. You're pretty much free on Sunday, and suddenly you get a text from Nick

Considering your study oriented mind, it's not surprising that one of the first things you decide to do is experiment with your new attachments. Buying some greasy pizza from the food court you sit down at a table and try sneakily slide a piece under your shirt. Your stomach maw opens up with a strange gasp-like noise, and quickly whips the processed breadmeatcheese product inside.

It feels strange considering it completely lacks the process of swallowing. You glance around to make sure no one has noticed you, and upon seeing that you're just another face in the crowd you proceed to eat the rest of your pizza this way.

While you feel full, it doesn't seem to give the same feeling as tentacle you at before.
