You are James Baker, a wild card according to the strange man known as Igor. Over the past few days you have moved to the town of Birchland with your Great Uncle Carson and started school. You've started to learn more about the town and made a small number of friends. School quickly got weird as you learned of a rift leading to another world that you believe is tied to your own.

More worrying was during an assembly was the green smoke flowing from The Rift and the strange, impervious wooden door within. Students and teachers at your school have begun acting stereotypical and forming cliques when from what you know it was a normal school before. These Shadows have been ripping something out of people, causing them to act like caricatures.

With Zoey having faced her Shadow, she has become a big help to the team. When scouting the mountains you found a village filled with Shadows. There you saw a kid from your photography class have some red glowing mass ripped from him, making him turn into a Shadow. To get revenge you followed one of the torch carrying Shadows to a cave where you fought a massive Shadow.

With a closer look at the gem you still have no idea what it is, it has some faint purple coloration. But something is better than nothing, "Good job everyone. We even got a treasure."

"Yeah, yeah, but can we head back now?" Martin asks while looking over his shoulder.

You look up from the gem at Ms. Brown. With that mask is covering her face you can't tell how she is feeling. You aren't sure if it is anger or worry, but something bubbles up, "You say this is dangerous then go and do that? What if you had missed the jump or it just threw you off?"

Ms. Brown pulls off her mask, glaring at you, "As a teacher I need to make sure you all stay safe. Something had to be done about those Shadow's attack so I made a distraction."

Zoey steps in, "Let's all cool down and get the hell out of here."

Martin and Zoey are right, so you take a few steps back. As Ms. Brown puts her mask back on you take a few breaths without the gas mask. When the group starts the walk back Zoey heads in front of you, leaving Martin and you in the back. It is a mostly silent walk back to the hills campsite, the sky same as always through the treetops.

Once you reach back to camp everyone takes a seat. Ms. Brown is the first to speak up, "I don't know why you feel so strongly about this. As the leader it is my duty to-"

"Wait you are the leader? I thought we had a group thing going on here," Martin interrupts.

Ms. Brown seems taken aback, "As the first person that found The Rift and the one leading the way it only makes sense I am the leader."

"I dunno, James is usually the final one to say things and we go along with that. Also with his whole Persona switching thing isn't he more of a leader?" Zoey says while looking over at you.

>Who the leader is doesn't matter right now. What does matter is that nobody should take huge risk.
>While you are in here you all are the same. The outside shouldn't be a factor, you all lead together.
>Zoey has a good point. Maybe you should be the official leader.

"Who the leader is doesn't matter right now. What does matter is that nobody should take a huge risk," you pause to turn to Ms. Brown, "Especially while not telling the rest of the team."

"There wasn't enough time to explain my plan," Ms. Brown retorts.

Martin gives her a curious look, "You couldn't tell us you were going to jump at them in a few seconds?"

Ms. Brown stands up, "Fine! I'll be more careful and communicate my plans better! I'll be taking my leave now."

Zoey holds her hands up, "Woah! Relax there lady."

Before you can say anything Ms. Brown has already gone through the door back to the school. Martin looks back to you and Zoey, "Man. What was her deal today?"

"Stress or something I guess. I'll see you guys tomorrow," Zoey says before heading through the hidden door too.

You and Martin are quick to follow, landing back in the auditorium. The fatigue from the time in The Rift is already catching up with you as you change back into your normal clothing. Ms. Brown is already gone by the time you check for her. The three of you all walk out of the school together, thankful the doors don't lock from the inside. Everyone gives a quick goodbye before heading home. It is times like now you really wish you had a car.

The ride back is uneventful, if slow. With the sun right in your eyes as it sets there are a few times you have to stop or let a car enter a neighborhood. Eventually though, you reach home. Your great uncle's car is gone, but you check your phone and see a text mentioning some big dinner for preachers. Once inside you flop onto the sofa, thinking of what to do for the night.

>Take it easy. Have an easy dinner and watch some TV
>Grab an easy dinner and go to bed early.

For dinner you just grab a Rob Steven's microwave meal and heat that up. It may not be the healthiest thing, but it is easy and taste pretty good. After throwing the plastic tray away you grab a math textbook. Sitting back at the kitchen table you decide to text some of the others while you aren't reading.

James: What's up?
Zoey: Cooking
Martin: Playing some City Builder 2014, hby?
James: Studying
Martin: Math Quiz next week ZZZZ
Zoey: Third week? I wish I had that long before a quiz
Martin: I bet your teacher can speak at a volume humans can hear

The conversation carries on, mostly Martin talking. Zoey seems busy with her fish dinner and you are trying to make progress studying. Eventually Zoey says her dinner is ready and Martin has to go as well, leaving you with the book. Focusing on it you look through example problems and various terms, absorbing the Pre-Calc like an already damp sponge.

When you look up next it is due to the sound of a car coming to a stop at 11pm. Only... 2 hours from when you last looked up. From all that studying your BRAINS has grown from Trivial to Bookworm. Your great uncle enters as you pick up the textbook, "Sorry for the late getting home James, I'm going to bed soon so I hope you have a good day tomorrow."

You manage a mutter in response as you head off and get ready for bed. When you crawl under the covers only a good nights sleep awaits you.

>9/14 > 9/15
9 Days until Mass Assemblies

As you pull into school the next day you don't see Ms. Brown's motor cycle, she didn't send any text either. When you get to History, Martin doesn't have any clue either. On your way to English you are stopped by Rich again. The gym teacher sighs and adjust his shirt, "I'm sorry."

This is a change from how he acted before, "Are you feeling alright? What are you sorry for?"

The man leans up against one of the walls and crosses his arms, "I'm fine now. Just apologizing for being rude to a new student without a real reason. I've had the headache for a few days now, but last night I realized I was treating random students unfairly. Also thanks for not going to administration over any of this."

"Thanks and you're welcome?" Well at least he doesn't seem to have it out for you anymore.

"Have a good one," Rich says before heading off down the hall.

The rest of your morning classes go by without anything interesting besides learning new things. When the lunch bell rings you and Martin quickly go through the line and sit with Zoey.

"Did Ms. Brown talk to you at all?" Martin asks her.

Zoey looks up from her grilled chicken with a confused look, "No, what's up?"

Martin sighs, "Ms. Brown never showed up. Her bike isn't even parked outside."

"She could just be sick you know," Zoey says, going back to eating.

That is a good point, but something doesn't feel right. If she was sick wouldn't she still text someone? Maybe she is still mad about yesterday.

Ms. Brown doesn't seem like the type to stay mad. You stand up, "I'm gonna go try and fine Mrs. Young, you both can stay here."

"Alright man, hope it isn't anything too bad," Martin says before going back to his lunch.

You head off down the hall to your usual Study Hall classroom. Peaking your head in your see Mrs. Young is eating something, but no students. "Excuse me, do you know where Ms. Brown is?"

The older woman sets her pasta to the side, "She said it was a family emergency and wouldn't make it today. Why do you ask?"

"Oh well... she said today would be the final day of Martin and I helping her grade stuff," You say trying to think of a good excuse/

"Ah. Well I I'll let you off the hook today," she says with a smile, "You should head back to class though."

With a nod you walk back to the cafeteria. Only a couple of minutes are left when you sit down again and tell them what you know. "A family emergency? Doesn't sound good." Zoey says as Martin takes the group's trash up.

"Yeah, maybe we should text her or something," Martin says when he gets back.

Family emergencies are a touchy subject, but who knows what kind it could be. The thought sticks with you as the days carries on, classes going smoothly. In study hall Martin and you crank out the homework from the day and chat about music some. He let's you listen to some jazz that turns out to be from some small indie game called Transmitter or something.

Martin and you pack our things as the final bell rings. With still no contact from Ms. Brown it doesn't seem like The Rift is an option right now, but you still have plenty to do.

"Maybe we should try to find a way to contact her. Just to see how things are," you say to Martin.

The two of you head outside as people are flooding out of the school. Martin takes out his phone, "I'm just gonna call her."

Martin dials the number and you hear ringing, ringing, but then a voice, "Hello this is Trisha Brown's number. If you are calling that means I am unable to answer you call at this time. Please leave a message after the beep."

He hangs up and scratches his head, "Well shit. You have any ideas James? Not like we can just look up where she lives or know anything about her."

The parking lot is quickly emptying as students get in their cars and drive off before the buses leave. Martin has good point, Ms. Brown has done a good amount of keeping her personal life separate from all of this. All you really know is her name.

"If we can't find anything maybe we can just head over to a pizza place arcade or something and hang out," Martin says looking over the parking lot again.

You take out your phone, "Let's just look her name up online, if that doesn't work we can try talking to Andy at the surplus store."

Martin nods in agreement, letting you do the honors. You type in "Name residence finder" and got a not virus filled looking result. The website is simple enough, punching in Trisha Brown and Birchland gets you one result. A motel downtown called "Lucky Eights."

"It says a motel downtown is where she lives. Does that sound right?" You ask Martin who is looking over your shoulder.

"I mean should we check out if she is there? Worst thing happens is I waste some gas and we can ask Andy on the way back if she doesn't stay there."

Your bike is loaded up on Martin's car as he gets it running. With the buses leaving there isn't too much of a rush to get going. Once you both are buckled up he pulls out and hits the road. At this time of day the traffic is starting to get heavy, even on the rural roads.

"You can choose the music this time, gotta be a good host," he says with a grin.

He pops out a disc, setting it in a cup holder. You connect your phone to the car and get some jazz started. You miss the speakers you had back home, but you couldn't bring everything.

"So what if she is living in the motel, do we still want to talk with her?" Martin asks, keeping his eyes on the road.

>Let's not go to the motel, just double check with Andy

You watch out the window at the many buildings and cars going by, "She might be in a mad place, if she is there we should try to speak with her."

"If you say so. I'll probably just hang back with the car though. I'm not too good at the emotional comfort thing," Martin says, driving past the surplus store.

After more stop and go traffic, eventually you come to the edge of town. To one side are just highways and trees, the other are a series of motels and fast food places. Martin pulls the car into the Lucky Eight parking lot, "This place looks empty, are you sure it is the right place?"

There are only a few cars, but once he parks you see Ms. Brown's motorcycle chained up. "Yeah this is it. I'll won't keep you waiting," you say as you get out of the car.

The front office of the motel is surprisingly clean and smells of lemons. A larger man with a bald head is watching you as you walk in from behind the front counter. "Whatcha doin' here boy? Ain't seen you round here before?"

"I'm looking for Trisha Brown, she lives here right?" you tell the man, just wanting to know the truth.

"Ah yeah yeah, she stayin here. Room 113," he says before going back to watching the small TV behind him.

With a nod of thanks you head up to the second floor of rooms. Room 113 is right in the middle of the row, which is all kept mostly clean. You give the door a knock, "Hey Ms. Brown. It's James."

From the other side of the door you hear Ms. Brown mumble, "What are you doing here?"

She doesn't sound too well. Hopefully she is just sick, "Can I come in? I just wanted to talk, but you weren't answering."

You hear a series of clicks before the door is cracked open. You can see Ms. Brown's face peak at you, then the door closes again. After a few more clicks the door opens enough for you to step inside. Once you are in the door is closed behind you and things are worse than you thought.

The room is an absolute mess of papers, camping gear, and there is even a heavy chest with clothing piled on top at the foot of the lone bed. "Sorry, I don't have much time to clean for guest with our Rift exploring and my jobs."

Did she just say jobs? That might explain why she is so busy, but this room is an absolute mess. You turn to look at her and she isn't doing much better. The normally well put together woman is still wearing the same clothes as yesterday and her hair is as messy as the room is.

Ms. Brown sits on her unmade bed with her head in her hands, "Please don't mention this to the others. Nobody else can know I live like this."

On the nightstand next to her bed you notice a photo of a young Ms. Brown with a huge grin holding a fish standing next to a middle aged man with red hair and a fishing rod.

This is a lot at once. You figured Ms. Brown had everything put together from how she acted at school, but this is getting uncomfortable fast.

Without much room to sit you just stay standing, "I promise I won't tell anyone about this."

Ms. Brown sighs, moving her hands to rest on the bed, "Thank you James. I can talk for now if you want."

"You're welcome. And umm, you said jobs with an S, right?"

One of her hands go to her mouth as she starts to bite on a nail, "Guess I let that slip. Yes, I also do food delivery at nights."

That would explain the lack of time with delivery woman, teacher, and now Rift explorer taking up her time. But that isn't why you came here, "Why couldn't you make it today?"

She looks over at the photo, dropping her hand to her lap. "That photo was the happiest I ever saw them. My dad is the reason I know so much about survival and like camping so much in the first place."

"So you couldn't make it because..." You can't bring yourself to say it. As much as your mom and dad fight, you couldn't imagine your dad passing on.

Ms. Brown looks down at the floor, "My mom took that photo and passed away last night. I guess she finally gets to see my dad after he passed away a few years ago. My cousins are taking care of the funeral arrangements, I just can't do those right now."

"I'm really sorry to here that, but if you need help with anything just let me know."

Ms. Brown smiles slightly "Thank you again James, it was nice to talk to someone about this."

You feel a smile form on your face too, "I'm just glad to help."

"I'm not kicking you out, but I need to clean up and take care of some things," she says as she stands and walks over to the door.

"I'll get going then," you say as you head out the door.

When you get out of the door you are nearly blinded by the sunset. You hurry back down to the car and get in. Martin turns down the music as you buckle up. You learned more about Ms. Brown now than you think you new about her in the past week.

"It isn't my place to say, if she wanted to tell everyone she would. No hard feelings," You tell Martin.

Martin nods as he starts the car back up, "Yeah I get, no worries. So did you need to head home or do you wanna hang out some more?"

"Why don't we go to that place you talked about. It was a pizza place with an arcade, right?"

The car pulls out of the motel lot as Martin continues, "It's called New Italy Pizza, but it was around since I was a kid. I haven't been there in a long time, so I hope their food is still good."

As he drives, Martin talks about how good the food was and how fun the arcade was as New Italy Pizza. Traffic is stop and go, but finally Martin pulls into a small plaza's parking lot. The lot is nearly empty, but Martin motions forward with a hand, "I present to you... a closed down building."

With the wind taken out of his sails, Martin sinks into his seat. From the car you can see it looks like the whole plaza is closed down, weeds even sprouting up in the parking lot. None of the building even have a "for lease" sign.

"No wonder I never cam here in a long time," he grumbles before starting the car up again.

Seeing Martin down is new, "Well maybe they just moved to a new location. If the place was as good as you said I doubt they just shut down."

"I guess, but I'm not really in the mood to drive around looking today," Martin says as he sits up straight.

Maybe a topic change is in order, "Do you have a console? Maybe we could play some time."

The car pulls back onto the busy roads of downtown Birchland. Martin takes the chance to look over during a red light, "Well I have an X-Cube. My place isn't great to come over on during the week though. Sorry man."

"So where are we going now?" you ask while looking out the car window.

Martin turns back to the front window, "I'm just taking us back to the school. Not too far of a bike for you and I've got to shop for something before I head home tonight."

The familiar scent of various fast food places drifts into the car as Martin drives, making your stomach growl. As the sun sets you finally get to the school. Martin brings the car to a stop to let you get your bike, "See you tomorrow James."

"Back at you, have a good night Martin," You say as you climb out.

By the time you bike home your stomach is demanding something, luckily Carson is already home. "Good evening James! I'm just about done fish fillets a friend of mine gave me," your Great Uncle calls as you come in.

You head into the kitchen right as your Great Uncle sets the plates. After he says grace for himself you dig in. The meal is nice and quick. Carson and you do a bit of small talk as you wash the dishes together, the sun setting fully as you do.

As the Moon rises you wonder what to do for the night. In the living room your Great Uncle is watching the news.

You join Carson on the couch. The old cushion sinks under your weight as you speak, "How was your day?"

"My day was fine. People are always donating to the church and myself since I run the church on my own," he replies.

That explains why he is so busy. "How do you manage running it by yourself?" you ask as the news talk about a new mall opening up.

Carson smiles, "Well I've had plenty of years experience on running things. I used to do missionary work in Africa in my youth."

Your Great Uncle tells you a few stories of helping people find God, making friends with those that were stubborn at first, and even helping people learn to read. Learning so much about Carson's good will you feel your SOUL has grown from Apathetic to Amiable.

After his stories your Great Uncle turns in for the night. When you see what time it is you are quick to follow.

8 Days until Mass Assemblies

As you get to school on Friday you get a text from Ms.Brown, "Apologies for yesterday. I am ready to return to action now."

It is worrying that she says she is ready to continue, but that might be how she is coping. Classes go along fast, it seems everyone is ready for the weekend. When lunch rolls around there is an announcement once you finally reach the table with Martin and Zoey, "Attention students. This is Dr. Fudge speaking. Next week the auditorium will be off limits as some renovations are being done. I repeat, off limits."

Zoey stabs a fork into her salad. "Of course," she spits.

"That was sudden. Why wouldn't they do that during the Summer?" You asked looking between the two.

Martin shrugs, "Don't look at me."

"It's go to be related to The Rift, right? Fudge doesn't give a shit about anything that isn't sports," Zoey says before going back to eating.

You nod in agreement, "I'm getting the feeling the teachers are being effected too. One of the gym teachers was on my case, but apologized yesterday."

"So now we have to deal with teachers hating us too? Great. At least no more students will change," Martin says after finishing the last bite of his sandwich.

"Ms. Brown should still be able to get us in," you say confidently.

Martin looks down at his phone, "I hope after we fix everyone we can get some answers about the place."

"It will be a shame to go back to the boring normal life though," Zoey sighs.

They both make good points. You still have no clue what The Rift really is or why it opened up. Will things really go back to normal after closing it?

The ringing of the bell snaps you out of your thoughts. PE goes by just fine, more indoor running. In photography you notice Jake isn't there today, Mr. G saying something about allergies.

Mr. G spends the class going into detail about lighting for the correct shot and gives a reminder about the school photography assignment. In Study Hall you and Martin walk in together and see Ms. Brown and Mrs. Young talking.

Together you both knock out homework just in time for the end of the daily bell. Martin and you join the flood of students, but instead of driving off you both wait by his car. Soon enough Ms. Brown and Zoey come along. "I should be able to get us in still, no contractors are in the auditorium today," Ms. Brown says.

Zoey grins, "Did you get that thing we talked about ready?"

Ms. Brown thinks for a moment, "Oh yes that. It should be ready."

"Sounds like a plan," You say as everyone grabs their bags.

The hallways are already empty as you go back inside. When you reach the main hallway before the backstage entrance Ms. Brown holds up a hand, "You three wait here, I'll check to see if we are clear."

"She is wearing more makeup than normal," Zoey whispers to you both.

Before you can say anything back Ms. Brown is already motioning for you to follow. Inside the auditorium it looks exactly the same as before. Dark rows of empty chairs filling it up. Ms. Brown hurries into the costume closet as you and Martin put your gear on. The wait between you finishing and Ms. Brown coming back out is short, back in her plague doctor getup. "Let's just go in already," Zoey says from the catwalk above.

Everyone drops in one at a time, you going last today. Back in camp nothing looks different. Martin is holding his phone for everyone, but it is a little small. "I marked the village and where we fought that volcano Shadow on the map. You know I did some reading and I think all these Shadows are mythological creatures."

"I knew some of them were, but are you sure all of them are?" Ms. Brown asks in her normal voice.

"One hundred percent, but I'm not sure what exactly it means. Anyways what is our plan to deal with that village now?" Martin asks looking to you.

From behind you hear a laugh. When you turn you see Zoey holding some kind of revolver. "Now I can kill some Shadows with this~" she says with a smile.

You look over at Ms. Brown again, "Did you have a chance to set up the game cameras?"

"I only managed to set them up during last period today, I'm sorry," she says in a quiet voice.

"It's fiiiine, you had things to take care of. But we still need to make a decision on where to go," Martin says as he puts away his phone.

Zoey is laughing as she fires shots up at the trees. "I'll go giver her a few pointers," Ms. Brown says as she walks over.

"Maybe we can check on the stone door again, it isn't too far away and is on the way to the village anyways," You say with a shrug.

After Ms. Brown and Zoey have a short talk on gun safety, the group agrees to go to the door again. Ms. Brown takes the front as usual, but goes slower than normal. Everyone manages to stay closer together as they travel down the now worn in trail.

Soon enough the group comes to the cliff and bridge. On the other side you can see another a lone Shadow guarding the stone door this time. "Hmm, I think the gem we got from that Shadow is the wrong shape for the door. This one is more of a prism but those sockets are clearly rounded," Ms. Brown whispers.

"Oh come on, we can take this Shadow out then get on our way. It won't take even a minute," Zoey quietly complains.

The only Shadow you see looks to be a regular Tiki Shadow, it couldn't be too strong.

The group gets in position and on your signal opens fire on the Shadow. Your shot lands true, blowing the mask off to reveal some a woman with wings and a devil's tail, but with a white outfit instead of just fur like Alp. Ms. Brown's shot lands as well, stunning the Shadow. Martin and Zoey both shoot wide, their shots hitting the other rock face.

Before you have a chance to celebrate you hear a branch crack behind you and turn in time for a large Shadow to reveal itself. The mask falls away to a hairy humanoid with vines covering the main body. Instead of the sneak attack it tried for it just punched you in the gut, a cry from Martin tells you the same or worse happened to him.

Well it seems what was meant to be an easy battle has wrong. Everyone has managed to get in the small clearing before the bridge, but those vine covered Shadows are both still bearing down on you all. "These things are probably some kind of Bigfoot!" Martin yells with the Shadow hot on his heels.

Ms. Brown is running over to help Martin with that Shadow. Zoey looks to have given up on her gun and pulled out the hatchet again. There is also the Shadow still on the bridge behind you.

"Atticus, come forth!" you shout.

You attempt to have Atticus use Kouha, but the Shadows sidestep the attack. Martin summons High John to boost himself first thing. Zoey follows it up by having Nevermore hack into one of the Shadows rushing the party. Finally Ms. Brown calls Sacagawea to burn the hairy Shadows.

Things are much the same as the others act again, but before you can act again a circle of darkness appears under your feet. The devil Shadow! Your feet are too slow though, and everything goes black.

"Then after that they dog piled while I tried to have Nevermore heal you, but it didn't work." Zoey says.

"Luckily you had this first aid kit on your, or we would have had to carry you back to camp mostly likely." Ms. Brown says with her mask back on.

"Thanks for the save then," you say as you pick your equipment back up.

There doesn't seem to be anything new to inspect the door for. "Let's just get to the other camp first, then we can see how things are," you suggest.

"Makes sense, we need to check on the village anyways," Martin says.

"Follow me then," Ms. Brown says as she heads into the brush.

Zoey grumbles something, but you can't hear it. The way to the camp in the hill quiet, but Ms. Brown points out many broken branches and footprints that point to recent activity.

When you finally reach the camp everything seems to be fine, but you can't shake the feeling something is off. "Umm guys, since when are there stumps around the camp?" Martin asks everyone.

You look over and see stumps right outside of the camp, you've seen zero stumps in here so far. Ms. Brown kneels by one of the stumps, "It wasn't brute forced over, something or someone cut this tree."

"Shadows don't have axes do they? It must have been the robed guy," Zoey says.

Martin shakes his head, "But why here then? Why else would whatever cut trees by the camp?"

Obviously what or whoever did this was smarter than the Shadows. "This must have been a person, either someone new or the robed figure from before."

"Well they had the decency to not chop down the trees with tags. I don't think they are hostile to us," Ms. Brown says as she rises.

Martin looks back at his phone, "Just how many people have been in here already? It must have been that robed guy if it was anyone."

"We don't know if it is a man yet, it could even be a Shadow wearing robes," Ms.Brown says with a shrug

"I saw their skin. That robed figure was a human for sure. They didn't look like they had an axe on them though," you explain.

"Hey conspiracy theorist, I think we are overlooking something," Zoey says to get your attention before pointing to the North, "Look over there."

The three of you look and see nothing out of the ordinary. "What are we suppose to see?" Martin asks.

Zoey smirks, "Nothing, it means they aren't burning any more fires with how close we are."

Ms. Brown puts a hand to her chin, "I doubt the game cameras have had enough time to record anything meaningful, but this gives us a good sign."

You think back to the last time you were in the village and what happened with Jake. Just how many students and teachers had that happen to them? You can put a stop to it, "This is our chance to sneak back in the village, maybe we can even talk out their Chief today."

"Okay, but if we are discovered we run away back here," Ms. Brown says as she starts out.

The group sneaks along the trail to the village, not spotting any Shadows on the way. As you draw closer to the village you see the dirt paths have only the occasional Shadow patrolling around.

Scouting along the edge of the village you learn of a few important buildings judging from the Shadows standing out front. There is the stage and altar, a hut twice as long as the others, and a building made of mud bricks and two especially large Shadows guarding.

Getting any closer to the village will be dangerous and risk running into a Shadow, but you've only seen around twenty of them there for now. The group meets up again a short distance away from the village, "We could sneak in if we don't use our guns in a fight, but where do we go?" Ms. Brown asks the others

"Nobody is using the altar right now. I think that large hut might be where the chief is," Martin says as he makes a rough outline of the village in the dirt.

"But what is that mud building then?" Ms. Brown asks.

Zoey taps at the dirt outline of the mud building, "I bet that is where hey are keeping people before they change them."

If that Chief is the one changing people, it needs to be stopped. You point down at the long hut on the dirt map, "Let's try to find a way into here. Maybe we can even get in without being seen by any Shadows."

The others are silent as they think it over, but Zoey only needs a few seconds, "Not like we have anything else to do, I'm in."

"I'm in too, this is why we came here," Martin says with a confident smile.

Ms. Brown takes another minute, but nods in agreement after looking at everyone. "But if we are caught we run all the way back to camp," She says as everyone gets ready.

You and Ms.Brown lead the way into the village again, taking the paths you didn't see Shadows using. The long hut doesn't have many other huts around it, making it easy to see the lone two Shadows standing by the front door. Around the back you don't see another entrance in, but you have an idea. "Just trust me on this," you tell the others as you carefully approach the side of the hut.

Zoey and Martin are giving you a worried look as you pick a rock up in your hand, you are sure Ms. Brown is too behind the mask. You chuck the rock with everything you have across the empty space and have it bounce off the roof of another building. The two Shadows notice the noise and run off to investigate. You give everyone else a thumbs up and they run over. "I can't believe that worked," Martin whispers.

While the guard Shadows still have their back turned you peak into the long hut. Inside you see a large flat stone with small figures on it and a few chairs around it. There is a curtain of vines separating the other half, but there isn't much time.

Everyone slowly creeps inside, the ceiling tall enough for you to stand. On the other side of the woven vine you think you hear something speaking. Ms. Brown whispers just loud enough for everyone to hear, "This is a battle map."

Looking back at the stone table you see what looks like a map painted on. There are a few figured scattered in the jungle, but four stand out. A large unshaped rock is in the mountain to the west, a carved person in right in the village, to the South in the swamp is another carved person, and between them both is what looks like a snake.

"Martin take some pictures of that map, I'm gonna take a look," you whisper back to the others.

Ms. Brown insist on following you, Zoey is fine just watching the door. As the two of you sneak through the vine curtain you see a the Chief Shadow is crouched over something. Looking around there is a small pedestal with the knife on it and many paintings on stone tablets lining the walls.

The paintings are all of the same thing, a serpent. Some have it with wings, others have it with a hood like a cobra, but they all are the same green and red colors.

As you look around, the Chief Shadow finally stands. From what you can see they were painting something else, "The one above will give us more once we convert more invaders.", it mutters in a slimey voice.

You feel a hand on your shoulder as the Chief walks over to the knife, Ms. Brown has already backed out of this half of the hut.

If you take out this Shadow you won't have to deal with people being converted more though.

You aren't letting this chance pass you by. With knife in hand you walk up behind the chief, pulling away from Ms. Brown. As you raise the knife to stab it in the back you see your reflection in the jeweled knife, and so does The Chief.

The Shadow roars as it faces you, on instinct you stop the stab and drop your arm to avoid being slammed in the gut. You are sent flying through the vines over Ms. Brown and land on your back on the stone map. "James!?" Martin asks loudly, caught off by this.

As the mask falls the Chief takes a much more muscular form. The skin turns pink as a single eye stares at you from across the hut. Ms. Browns runs over to you and Martin as horns sprout from the now three armed Chief steps forward. In the third hand looks to be a football, and upon a closer looks it looks like it is wearing weird football gear. "Intruders will die!"

"We've got company from over here too!" Zoey shouts as two Valkyrie fly over to the door.

Martin looks over at you, "High John!"

The familiar root like Persona lowers the rod and you feel a surge of speed. "Nevermore, curse them!" Zoey shouts, the stone raven flapping a wave of darkness at one of the Valkyrie.

Ms. Brown stands between you and the Chief, whom's head is now scraping on the ceiling of the hut, a red glow surrounding her as Sacagawea is called forth.

Some of the eyes on the armor turn their attention from Ms.Brown to you. Atticus reads a page from that book, "This is a nasty one. Be careful."

As your Persona fades away the large Shadow slams into Ms. Brown, who stands her ground. From the door you hear Zoey grunt as she retreats from the door. Both of the Valkyries seem to have slashed at her and now this hut is getting crowded.

"Get a load of this!" Martin says to the Chief, High John dazzling the many eyed Shadow.

Zoey kicks over one of the chairs as she has Nevermore heal her. "Sacagawea, tear them apart!" Ms. Brown yells.

But as the clawed Persona rips into the Chief, it seems to hardly do anything. Ms. Brown hiss, "Damn it, regular attacks are no good."

Martin: HP: 83% SP: 65%
Zoey: HP: 75% SP: 35%

Things are getting even tighter with the Chief drawing closer and the Valkyries in the mix. If you don't make some space fast you won't have space to dodge any attacks.

Even with the thing dazzled it still might hit someone. You can't take that risk, "Atticus, the eye!"

"You got it kid," Atticus says as he fades back in.

Atticus brings up a second hand to help steady the rifle before shooting. The Chief Shadow roars in pain, bring up one of it's hands to cover the eye. In blind retaliation the Shadow hurls the ball at you. As the ball flies at you it begins to glow and grow, but you duck out of the way before it hits you. With a crash the ball takes a chunk out of the stone beside you. As it bounces back to the Shadow's awaiting hand the entire stone cracks, then crumbles to dust. "Don't let that ball hit you!" you call to the others.

Martin dashes over to Zoey, summoning High John behind him. "Blast the weaker one!"

With a smile the Persona zaps one of the Valkyries. Right after the same one is hit with a wave of darkness, "Thanks for that," Zoey says.

Instead of attacking the last Valkyrie crosses her swords, but it is The Chief that begins to glow purple. Ms. Brown closes her branded hand, "Fine, strengthen your defense all you want!"

Sacagawea launches a small ball of fire at The Chief, at least Ms. Brown can keep up with it's defenses for now.

That ball is a problem, but it is blinded for now. Martin and Zoey seem to be facing down the Valkyrie while you and Ms.Brown face the Chief. And who knows how long until more Shadows arrive?

For a second The Chief let's up on the attacks, "Ms. Brown cover me."

Without wasting your chance, you run beside the Shadow. One arm reaches out to slap you away, but you jump over it. With one hand you seize the what you feel is more now of a dagger. When you turn around it is just in time to avoid another throw of the ball.

Though you aren't hit, debris showers you as the wall is blown apart. Looking out you can see another Shadow approaching, this one of the burning ones.

From across the room you hear Martin shout, "Go help them, I can handle this one!"

When you turn back you see Zoey running over to Ms. Brown as the later is enveloped in a green light. Past them you can see Martin summoning High John, frying the Valkyrie with one blast of lightning.

Ms. Brown catches your attention as she singes the hands of the large Shadow with Sacagawea, but as she does all of the glows wear off.

This dagger was used to rip the hearts of people out, it's got to do something special. With chief distracted by the others you run at it from behind and leap, plunging the dagger into it's back. The Shadow roars in pain again, "I'll crush you pitiful invader!"

Before you can pull the knife out the third arm reaches back, ball in hand. You're unable to get free in time as the ball slams into your side, luckily you were too close for it it pick up speed and glow. That doesn't stop you from bounding off the floor like a rag doll though.

You hear someone call your name, but you aren't sure who. Everything is spinning as you grab the dagger and stand back up. Something feels sore and you double over, gripping your ribs. You make out someone standing infront of you, taking a blast of fire that was heading your way, from how little damage they took it must have been Ms. Brown.

Another person runs up, you are pretty sure it is Zoey from the large bird fading in behind them. The Flaming Shadow is blasted by a wave of darkness and torn into by Sacagawea.

Finally your senses come back to you as a the Chief slams forward, hitting Martin hard. "We need to finish this fast!" he yells from the other side.

You grip the dagger tight and run it into the side of The Chief, getting swatted back again in return. But you notice the holes you left have the dark gunk that makes up Shadows leaking out and the purple glow they had has also worn off.

Martin summons High John, zapping the Shadow from his side. As Zoey runs up to have Nevermore attack she is intercept by the ball. You watch as she flies back into a wall, then the ball bounces back.

Ms. Brown charges up to the Shadow and burns at it yet again, standing in front of Zoey to let her recover. "It feels like I broke something," Zoey grumbles as she stands up straight.

That ball has to be stopped and you have just the plan for it. You open your arms wipe, "Come on, try and hit me."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cA1JFEKrTII

Ms. Brown looks over at you, "James what are you doing?"

Your eyes are locked on the Shadow as it turns to you, "Playing dodge ball."

"Catch this!" The Chief shouts, two arms throwing the ball at you like a baseball pitch.

The ball flies right into your arms, perfect. Then you hear the crunch. You nearly collapse, but only fall to a knee. Looking up at the Shadow you force a smile.

"What, you actually caught it!?" the shadows yells, slamming a hand to the ground.

"Now!" Martin yells.

The others one by one pour everything they can into the Chief. Lighting, darkness, fire, but it isn't enough. "I won't fail the one above. I may fall, but I'm taking you all with me!"

In a rage the Shadow punches at the roof, the building starting to collapse as the Shadow melts away from the combined damage and bleeding.

Zoey pulls you to your feet, the ball melting away in your hands. "Come on, no time to waste. Where are we running?"
